Arrive in Ljubljana and check in to your accommodation. Discover Ljubljana on a 2-hour sightseeing walking tour accompanied by a licensed, knowledgeable and passionate local guide.

Overnight: Ljubljana

ŠKOCJAN CAVES - SOCERB CASTLE - PIRAN

The Slovenian coast is small but endearingly charming. You will enjoy the day visiting the highlights of the Slovenian coast and its hinterland.

From Ljubljana we will drive to the Škocjan Caves , a Unesco cultural heritage site, and a majestic underground river canyon, and take you to a world of fantasy. The extraordinary volume of the underground canyon distinguishes Škocjan Caves from other caves and places and is one of the most famous underground sights in the world. After visiting the caves, we will enjoy a scenic drive towards the Slovenian coast with a stop at Socerb Castle , from where we will have a breathtaking view of the Slovenian coast and the Gulf of Trieste.

Arriving in Piran , you will discover the romantic and picturesque coastal town. Piran is a tourist highlight on the Slovenian coast, strongly influenced by the old Venetian Republic. Overnight Ljubljana

LJUBLJANA - BIZELJSKO - PTUJ

Bizeljsko is one of the many wine regions of Slovenia, known mainly for its sparkling wines. However, other grape varieties also thrive in this part of the country, which has one of the friendliest climates. Some of the wineries hide another ethnological jewel: the Repnice cellars, whose centuries-old tradition has been revived in recent decades. Ptuj is a picturesque and charming town in northeastern Slovenia. It is located on the banks of the Drava River in Slovenia. The city has a rich history that is reflected in its medieval architecture, including the imposing Ptuj Castle and the Ptuj City Tower. Visitors can also explore the city's museums, including the Ptuj Regional Museum and the Ormož Castle Museum. In addition, the annual Kurentovanje Festival with its colorful costumes, traditional music, and wine tastings is a popular event in Ptuj that attracts visitors from all over the world.

Overnight: Ptuj

MARIBOR - ŽIČE - CELJE

A visit to Maribor should not be missing on any trip to Slovenia. Maribor is a cosmopolitan city on the banks of the Drava River with many tourist attractions. It is the second-largest city in the country and the largest in the Styria region. The historic city center is marked by Austrian influence, and we will admire the lively and colorful squares and the old river port during Lent. One of the main tourist attractions of Maribor is the Old Vine, the Guinness Book-certified oldest grapevine in the world. We can enjoy a wine tasting at this magical location.

From Maribor, we drive to the silent valley of St. John the Baptist to admire the splendor of the monastery or Charterhouse of Žiče . After this spiritual wonder we will drive to the city of Celje , enjoy dinner, and have a night walk through the charming streets of the city center. The perfect mix of history, culture, and cuisine, all in one day.

Overnight: Celje

Alpine lakes - BLED, BOHINJ

ALPINE LAKES - BLED, BOHINJ

We will head northwards from eastern Slovenia, leaving the hills behind and heading into the mountains. The breathtaking Alpine valleys of Slovenia are not to be missed. Our first destination is the enchanting Lake Bled , where you can enjoy a ride on a Pletna rowboat to the island of Bled, visit the magnificent Bled Castle, take a walk through the impressive Vintgar Gorge , and discover the tranquil Lake Bohinj in the Triglav National Park .

We will end the day at Kranjska Gora , and before night take a walk to Jasna lake .

Overnight: Kranjska Gora

SOČA VALLEY

SOČA VALLEY

From Kranjska Gora, you will continue to the Soča Valley . After driving over the Vršič, the highest mountain pass in Slovenia, you will arrive in Trenta and start exploring the Soča Valley. The Soča River has one of the most stunning colors you'll ever see, and you can follow its vivid rapids from the source to the spectacular carved gorges, all the way down where it slows down and gets deeper and more mysterious. The river is not the only spectacular sight in the valley, because most of the way you will be accompanied by outstanding mountain peaks and wonderful waterfalls. The whole area is also steeped in the memories of the battles of the First World War, which were fought in this valley and can be seen in the war cemeteries and monuments.  We end the day in Goriška Brda, an ideal place for an overnight stay in a villa or on a local wine farm.

Overnight:  Goriška Brda

GORIŠKA BRDA - THE TUSCANY OF SLOVENIA

The Slovenian region of Goriška Brda is the next hidden gem of Europe waiting to be discovered. It is a land of rolling hills, covered with orchards and vineyards and dotted with small, forgotten villages. Did we mention the excellent wine? We will visit traditional and modern wineries, learn about the historical and cultural heritage and taste excellent local wine. Overnight: Goriška Brda

IDRIJA UNESCO

IDRIJA UNESCO

From the south coast, we drive to the northern part of the coast and further to the region known as the cradle of UNESCO heritage in Slovenia - Idrija In the Idrija region you can admire the Klavže, a river engineering phenomenon called "Slovenia's pyramids", look into the bottomless Wild Lake and walk along the shortest river in Slovenia, visit Idrija Castle and its interesting museum, and descend into the depths of the disused mercury mine, which has been transformed into a world-class attraction under the protection of UNESCO.

POSTOJNA CAVE - PREDJAMA CASTLE

The last jewel of your tour is Predjama Castle and Postojna Cave - one of the most famous caves in the world. It is also the #1 tourist attraction in Slovenia and one of the largest karst monuments in the world. What makes Postojna Cave a must-see attraction in Slovenia? A unique and adventurous ride on a special train. It is one of the most diverse cave systems in the world, with 21 km of corridors, galleries and magnificent halls that offer an unparalleled experience of the underground world and a great variety of subterranean animals - including the world-famous human fish (Proteus anguinus).

At the end of the day we will visit Predjama Castle , perched high on a vertical cliff not far from Postojna Cave in the idyllic village of Predjama.

Overnight Ljubljana

The last morning coffee in the charming city center of Ljubljana and the farewell departure to the airport.

What people love about Slovenia Tours

Everything is organised quite well, you get a hotel booked in each town and they transfer your luggage after you check out from each of them. You also get a dinner and a breakfast in each of the hotels but one(the one in Trenta - they have no restaurant). There was a tiny mix up with one of the hotels - where the name of the hotel we were informed about was different from what the travel voucher said, but Marco(who we communicate with via tourradar) helped us to find the correct one, even though our contact specified in the travel vouched was not picking up his phone. Perhaps because it was quite late - around 8pm, because in the mornings there was no issues reaching him. Also, if you don't feel like walking the whole distance you can ask them to transfer you half way or something like that, which we did on the 3rd day cause we were quite tired. But be sure to think about this in advance, before you take the trip. Overall - would recommend: hotels are good, nature is beautiful, the trails are not too difficult if you have some hiking experience. Just be sure to pack enough water because there is absolutely no water fountains along the trails, which we found weird, but I suppose you can drink directly from Soča river as it seemed super clean.
WOW! This was the BEST adventure tour that I've done. Everything was first class from the food, the accomodation, the awesome guides, Blaz, the owner, greeted us personally and made us feel special. The tour wasn't the typical watered down tourist "stampede" where you are guided to the activity and sleep through the motions, but instead a "better pay attention or you'll get your ass handed to you by the mountain/river". Loved that it was a REAL adventure tour and not Disneyland where you must keep your hands inside the car at all times. Thanks a million to the folks at Positive Sport, Jazbecu, and his Mom for an epic time!
Slovenia is truly stunning, and our tour guides were wonderful. Full consideration was given to our interests and our comfort, and we experienced an amazing trip throughout this wonderful country.

Passengers who purchase flights will depart 1 day before the tour starts and return on the same day as the tour ends.

You can find more details on the Before You Depart page.

Day 1: Arrive in Dubrovnik

renee tours slovenia

Welcome to Croatia! Founded in the seventh century, Dubrovnik, one of Europe’s best-preserved walled cities, is a World Heritage Site. Travelers who purchased our air-inclusive package will be greeted at the airport and escorted to your downtown hotel. Along the way, we'll enjoy a first look at this prospering city and country, where visitors from around the world are warmly welcomed. Our Tour Director hosts a briefing tonight, followed by a get-acquainted dinner.

Day 2: Dubrovnik

renee tours slovenia

Treasures abound in this enchanting city, and we'll have ample time to discover them—from its massive age-old walls to winding cobblestone streets, and its medieval buildings to the charming red-tile rooftops. This morning's guided walking tour through “Old Dubrovnik” takes us to the harbor, the Franciscan monastery, and the stately Baroque Cathedral. We'll have free time to enjoy the historic town independently and at our own pace for the rest of the day. This evening, consider an optional cruise and dinner tour this evening.

Day 3: Montenegro Excursion

renee tours slovenia

We can check another country off our list as we cross the border to the Republic of Montenegro and the beautiful Bay of Kotor, the longest and deepest fjord in Southern Europe. A boat cruise will take us to “Our Lady of the Rocks,” an islet off the old town of Perast. Sailors passing the islet helped build the Roman Catholic Church here, each adding their own unique contribution to the construction of the church. Later, after enjoying brief visits to Perast and Kotor, we'll return to Dubrovnik via a short ferry ride across the bay.

Day 4: Dubrovnik at Leisure

renee tours slovenia

Enjoy a full day of leisure in Dubrovnik, described as the “pearl of the Adriatic.” Consider browsing in a colorful local market.

Day 5: Dubrovnik – Split

renee tours slovenia

Today, we'll depart Dubrovnik and continue along the spectacular Dalmatian coast, breathing in amazing views of palm trees, olive groves, and idyllic fishing villages, before arriving in Split. With its setting nestled between the mountains and the seas, Split is truly picturesque. Our guided tour takes us to one of the most imposing Roman ruins, the third-century palace of Roman Emperor Diocletian.

Day 6: Split – Zadar – Plitvice Lakes

renee tours slovenia

After breakfast, we'll head to Trogir, the center of artistic activities. Scholars from around the world gather here to study and paint. We'll continue on to Zadar for a walking tour of the historical center and admire the old walls and Port Gate built in the 16th century. Next, we'll visit the Square of the Five Wells, the Church of St. Donat, the Roman Forum, and the largest Cathedral in Dalmatia, St. Anastasia. If there is a breeze, we'll enjoy the “sea organ”, an amazing art and musical installation. Then, we'll turn inland and travel to spectacular Plitvice Lakes National Park. This evening, we'll enjoy dinner at our hotel.

Day 7: Plitvice Lakes – Opatija

renee tours slovenia

This morning, we’ll take a short scenic boat ride and a leisurely walk along the lakeshores to admire its magnificent natural beauty. Next, we'll visit Croatia’s oldest, largest national park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Plitvice Lakes National Park features a string of 16 turquoise lakes linked by 92 waterfalls and cascades and is surrounded by densely wooded mountains and lush vegetation. Later, we'll drive along the coast and travel along the beautiful bay of Kvarner to its popular resort, Opatija. This evening, we'll enjoy dinner at our hotel.

Day 8: Opatija at Leisure

renee tours slovenia

Ah, the Adriatic! We have a full day at leisure to savor the city's Austro-Hungarian grandeur, lovely waterfront promenade, and charming cafes and restaurants. Or, consider a delightful optional Istrian Peninsula excursion to see picturesque towns along the stunning coastline.

Day 9: Opatija – Postojna Caves – Lake Bled

renee tours slovenia

After breakfast, we'll journey north to Postojna, home to one of the largest caves in Europe. Our stop at Postojna Caves includes an underground train journey to view impressive stalagmites and stalactites. Afterward, we'll visit a family-run homestead where we'll enjoy lunch. After lunch, we'll continue to Bled, beautifully set in the Julian Alps.

Day 10: Bled

renee tours slovenia

An Alpine lake surrounded by high peaks, Bled was “discovered” by travelers in the middle of the 19th century. Since then, a small town of hotels, villas, and restaurants has developed around the lake, turning Bled into a lively, all-seasons resort. Our sightseeing tour features the charming town and the lakeshore and visits the imposing Bled Castle, perched on a cliff high above the lake. The balance of the day is at leisure. Consider joining an optional excursion to the small island in the middle of Lake Bled.

Day 11: Bled – Ljubljana – Zagreb

renee tours slovenia

Today we'll leave the mountains and head to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. We’ll admire the architectural legacy of city native and 20th-century architect, Joze Plecnik, acclaimed for his work rebuilding the city after a devastating earthquake in 1895. As we explore the old town, we'll see some structures that survived the earthquake as well as some of the city's small shops and outdoor cafes. We'll have time to stroll along the riverside promenade and through the open-air market before we continue to Zagreb.

Day 12: Zagreb

renee tours slovenia

Our morning guided tour covers the highlights of Zagreb: Upper Old Town with its monumental walls and iconic 13th-century St. Mark’s Church; colorful Jelacic Square and charming alleyways nearby; and beautiful Mirogoj Park Cemetery, which looks more like an open-air art gallery than a final resting place. The remainder of the day is free to explore this gracious city on your own. Tonight, gather with our fellow travelers for a farewell dinner.

Day 13: Depart Zagreb

Our tour comes to an end after breakfast today. Travelers who purchased our air-inclusive package will take a morning transfer to the airport for our return flight and will touch down in the U.S. later today.

Ho chi minh, vietnam – 2024.

Determined to squeeze the most out of our Easter public holidays, we jumped on our fancy Business Class flights to Vietnam. Super impressed by Vietjet, Saigon and all things Vietnamese.

Christmas in Europe

On December 16th 2023, we embarked on a bucket list adventure to explore the European Christmas Markets. With romantic images of twinkling lights and snow capped villages in mind, we set off to… Frankfurt | Nuremberg | Rothenburg ob Tauber | Strasbourg | Colmar | Riquewihr | Ribeauville. FRANKFURT Nuremberg

A special adventure for my 40th birthday in April 2023. We flew into Osaka from Los Angeles, for a few days of Super Mario World (Theme Parks), TeamLab in the Botanical Gardens, cute animals and tasty treats. (Octopus balls anyone??) On to Gotemba on the bullet train where we had our first authentic Onsen experience…

Japan – 2016 – Gallery

Another one of my foodie adventures with the wonderful crew at Intrepid. This was the one if you’d like to check it out: http://www.intrepidtravel.com/au/japan/real-food-adventure-japan-102210 Tokyo>  Takayama > Koya-San > Kyoto > Osaka >  Hiroshima > Miyajima > Osaka

Time for take off

It’s something about that moment, when the wheels lift off the ground and you are at the mercy of those big silver wings. I get butterflies, like an anxious excitement. Not sure if I’m perhaps nervous about where I’m headed, or what I’m leaving behind. I know sometimes I’ve been happy to leave it all…

Seattle and Portland

Recently took my first trip to the beautiful cities of Seattle an Portland with my good friend, photographer extraordinaire and fellow travel addict Kirsty Ryan. We flew into rendezvous at Seattle,  hired a car (two aussie girls roadtripping through the US, watch out!!), and spent a long weekend exploring the sights and the culinary delights…

Mexico City – First Impressions

So I made it to Mexico City, through immigration where apparently it’s all good to breast feed in the queue. The airport was slow but the people are more than lovely enough to make up for it. As we get get diverted from a blocked off street, with a giant Playboy bus paked outside a…

Norman Petty Studios. Clovis, New Mexico, USA

Buddy Holly is a name known throughout the ages and music tastes. Sadly his career was cut short in a 1959 plane crash, but his work will always be remembered as an innovative and influential force in rock and roll. His biggest hit “That’ll Be The Day” was a best seller in the US, and…

Chefchaouen – Morocco

Chefchaouen is hands down the most striking place I have ever visited. The perfect combination of relaxation and exploration, with rich colour and curiosities at every turn. As my bus rounded that final turn, revealing the vivid blue medina splashed across the Rif mountains, I was sold. Chefcaouen was painted blue by the Jewish refugees…

San Francisco – Alcatraz

Casablanca – Morocco 2012

Landed in Casablanca…. First impression of Morocco? Wow, what a mess! It’s labelled as a developing country, but it’s more like they developed something beautiful and then changed their minds about it. If you squint you can see the city’s heyday. Stunning Art Deco shapes on every wall, Arabic text etched into intricate archways and…

Central Australia

More to come on my April 2012 trip through central Australia including: Adelaide, Alice Springs, Ayres Rock and the Olgas.

Next stop – Morocco

As we near the last 2 hours of our 14 hour flight to Dubai, the lights are on and we have all finished breakfast. Really not a bad one for aeroplane food either, Emirates are good at their snacks. I’m scanning the plane and wondering where everyone is headed. To me, Dubai is more of a transit…

Time for Thailand

Thailand.. Cocktails, Massages, Pad Thai, Beaches, Pampering and a few more cocktails…bliss! The fact you are reading this tells me you are either a good friend (thankyou, love you!) or you too have the travel bug, which means you too are probably subscribed to one (or like me, ten) of those mailing lists where they…

Bogota, Colombia

What an amazing city of contrasts! But if I must… Green. Wandering around what is the (broken) Concrete jungle of Bogota, you are never more than a few steps from a glimpse of the expansive mountains that surround this metropolis. I learnt quickly that watching the mountains instead of the traffic can be quite hazardous…
