Phoenix, AZ - (November 13, 2023) –  The non-profit Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour, Canada’s number-one Junior Golf Tour, recently concluded the highly successful MJT National Championship presented by TaylorMade and adidas Golf at the picturesque Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield (Phoenix), AZ, highlighted by a hole-in-one, two playoffs and a special appearance by PGA TOUR star and MJT alumnus, Adam Hadwin.

Maple Hill takes great pride in its role as the host of the 7th annual MVP Open, marking its 21st consecutive year as the premier event at the venue. Additionally, it is the 3rd year that Maple Hill assumes the role of a DGPT Playoff Event. We are thrilled to welcome back all the exciting and enjoyable supplementary activities that make the final playoff event of the year truly memorable, including ice cream socials, big barn putting, night golf, skins contests, and more.

As the final DGPT Playoff Event before the Tour Championship, the 2024 edition promises to be an exhilarating spectacle. Join us and witness the world’s finest players compete fiercely for one of the most esteemed titles in the realm of disc golf.

Good News! No Renovation Disruptions During 2024 or 2025 Golf Seasons

We’re planning for the future! Forest Preserve District staff and golf course architect Greg Martin hosted an open house in October 2023 and presented plans for a revitalized Maple Meadows Golf Course.  Planning continues and the earliest any renovations would disrupt golf is late ’25.

Chicago District Golfer Magazine Calls Maple Meadows a “Crowd Pleaser”

No matter where you live or where you might be traveling, the Golfweek’s Best course rankings have you covered with the top public-access layouts in every U.S. state. 

Following is our annually updated Best Courses You Can Play ranking, as judged by our nationwide network of raters. The hundreds of members of our course-ratings panel continually evaluate courses and rate them on 10 criteria on a points basis of 1 through 10. They also file a single, overall rating on each course. Those overall ratings are averaged to produce all our Golfweek’s Best course rankings.

The courses on this list allow public access in some fashion, be it standard daily green fees, through a resort or by staying at an affiliated hotel. If there’s a will, there’s a tee time – no membership required. (There are a handful of courses on this list that some players might consider to be traditionally private, but they do allow non-hosted, non-member guest play in some limited form, normally through a local hotel or similar arrangement.)

PGA Tour on PIF talks: 'We want to get this right'

A meeting between the representatives of PGA Tour Enterprises and Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of the Saudi Public Investment Fund, and his staff yielded "progress," the PGA Tour announced Saturday.

The meeting was held Friday night in New York as the two sides work together to form an alliance.

"Representatives from the PGA TOUR Enterprises Transaction Subcommittee and the PIF have been meeting multiple times weekly to work through potential deal terms and come to a shared vision on the future of professional golf," read a news release issued by the tour. "On Friday evening, an in-person session in New York City included the entire Transaction Subcommittee and PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan and his team, where more progress was made.

"We remain committed to these negotiations, which require working through complex considerations to best position golf for global growth. We want to get this right, and we are approaching discussions with careful consideration for our players, our fans, our partners and the game's future."

The PIF also funds LIV Golf, which lured numerous stars away from the PGA Tour with massive contracts and the promise of lucrative tournament prizes.

The two sides announced a framework agreement last June to create a joint for-profit company, agreeing to end litigation between the two sides and negotiate an alliance. The Strategic Sports Group, a group of billionaire sports team owners and other investors, also has a seat at the table after pledging to invest up to $3 billion in PGA Tour Enterprises, a for-profit group.

PGA Tour, LIV Golf and DP World Tour merger timeline as delays and disputes dominate

It is 12 months to the day since Jay Monahan and Yasir Al Rumayyan shocked the world of golf by announcing a framework agreement between the PGA Tour and Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF).

The deal was set to bring an end to the dispute between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour with their LIV Golf rivals, after a year of bitter fallout. One year on from Monahan's announcement on June 6 though, a deal is yet to be signed off, with frustration and uncertainty within the game continuing to grow.

From initial hope and promise, to further fallouts, missed deadlines and a war of words between the world's best continuing, here is a look back at the biggest moments in the year that has followed the shock framework agreement plan.

June 6 - Agreement announced

After over a year of civil war, it appeared the world of pro golf was set to reunite, as Monahan and Al-Rumayyan announced their plans to work side-by-side. The proposed 'merger' was revealed by the rival leaders in a groundbreaking interview on CNBC. Monahan said: "Today is an historic day for the PGA Tour and the game of golf, and an historic day for PIF and the DP World Tour.

"There has been a lot of tension in our sport over the last couple of years, but what we are talking about today is uniting the game of golf, and to do so under one umbrella."

June 7 - McIlroy feels like 'sacrificial lamb'

One man who had been at the centre of the fallout between the PGA Tour and LIV was Rory McIlroy, having announced himself as one of the Saudi league's staunchest critics. Nobody had stuck their neck on the line more than McIlroy out of the Tour playing quota, so he was as shocked as anyone to hear of the u-turn.

"It’s hard for me to not sit up here and feel somewhat like a sacrificial lamb and feeling like I’ve put myself out there and this is what happens," he said a day after the announcement. "Removing myself from the situation, I see how this is better for the game of golf, there’s no denying it.”

June 13 - U.S. Senate open investigation

On the back of their proposed deal with the Saudi fund, the U.S. Senate confirmed it had launched an investigation into the PGA Tour's plans. A senate sub-committee led by Sen. Richard Blumenthal delved into the agreement, and called on representatives from both sides to provide evidence.

PGA Tour director Jimmy Dunne - who has recently resigned from his post - appeared in front of the committee alongside his colleague Ron Price. Representatives from the PIF group failed to speak in front of Blumenthal and co, and are still yet to do so.

June 14 - Monahan takes leave

A week following the announcement and ahead of the 2023 U.S. Open, Jay Monahan announced he was taken a sick-related absence from his role as PGA Tour commissioner. The American had come under great scrutiny since opting to partner with PIF, but took a step back from his duties in order to look after his health until July 14.

August 1 - Tiger Woods appointed to policy board

With negotiations between the PGA Tour and PIF underway, Tiger Woods was appointed to the American-based circuit's policy board as a player representative in the talks. He became the sixth player on the board, with the move part of Monahan's pledge to his members to give players a say on the final decision made.

October 19 - Norman has his say

It had been reported that LIV's CEO Greg Norman had played no part in the framework agreement discussions, casting doubt over what the future held for the former world No. 1 and Saudi league. He however remained buoyant about what was to come next. "All indications are showing that the position of LIV has never been stronger and that the success of our players and our brand has never been in a better place," he said at LIV's 2023 Team Championship.

"And as we look forward into 2024, we’ve got a full schedule. We’ve got some places we’ve been to before, but we’ve got some new venues as well and we’re reaching different regions."

November 15 - McIlroy resigns

Five months on from his 'sacrificial' lamb comments, McIlroy opted to resign from his role on the Tour policy board. "[It is] not what I signed for whenever I went on the board," McIlroy said at the time. ”But yeah, the game of professional golf has been in flux for the last two years. Again, the overall game I think is in really good shape.

“But everyone focuses on this top level because it is what it is, and it's an entertainment product and it's a show, but the faster that it gets rectified, I think the better for everyone.”

November 28 - Tiger Woods breaks silence

Woods finally spoke publicly about his thoughts on the agreement at last November's Hero World Challenge. "I would have to say there's a lot of moving parts on how we're going to play. Whether it's here on the PGA Tour or it's merging, or team golf. There's a lot of different aspects that are being thrown out there all at once and we are trying to figure all that out and what is the best solution for all parties and best solution for all the players that are involved.’’

December 7 - Jon Rahm joins LIV Golf

After weeks of speculation, LIV finally made their biggest signing after acquiring the services of former world No. 1 Jon Rahm for a reported £450 million. The move was a bold one by the Saudi-backed series, who had lured in one of the PGA Tour's prized possessions with talks still ongoing.

December 31 - Deadline missed

It was another step back for negotiations as the initial framework agreement deadline agreed by the PGA Tour and PIF was missed on December 31. This proved to be a sign of things to come when it came to professional golf's pending peace deal, as it ensured negotiations headed into 2024.

January 11 - Keith Pelley leaves DP World Tour

The 2024 campaign started with yet another shock announcement, as DP World Tour CEO Keith Pelley revealed he would be leaving his role in April. Pelley confirmed he was leaving the world of golf, to return to his native Canada to lead the Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.

Speaking in January, Pelley revealed he hoped progress would be made by April's Masters. "I think we will certainly have a direction of travel by [April], yes, I do. "I think, as I said, the conversations have heated up since Ryder Cup. We expected that. I think there's a will from all parties."

January 31 - PGA Tour partner with SSG

At the end of January the PGA Tour announced they had reached a partnership, but not with PIF. Instead, it was confirmed that U.S.-based investor Strategic Sports Group (SSG) would pump £2.3 billion ($3.1bn) into the circuit's newly-formed PGA Tour Enterprises.

March 18 - PGA Tour meet PIF in Bahamas

With doubt cast over the progress of the framework agreement negotiations, members of the PGA Tour policy board and PIF representatives met in the Bahamas in March. Monahan along with a group of player directors were in attendance, alongside Al-Rumayyan and his team.

It was reported that the jewel in the Tour's crown - Woods - worked closely with Al-Rumayyan, as the pair joined each other on the golf course as part of the discussions to map out a plan for the future of professional golf.

May 9 - McIlroy return rejected

A year-and-a-half on from resigning as a player director, McIlroy had shown an interest in returning to the policy board, but it was not to be for the Northern Irishman. It was heavily reported that the four-time major winner's wish was turned down by his fellow players, including Woods and Patrick Cantlay.

May 18 - Dunne resigns as director

In a huge blow for the PGA Tour and its negotiations, director Dunne announced his resignation last month. The American had played a major role in brokering the initial agreement announced last summer, and represented the Tour in front of the Senate in the aftermath.

Explaining the reasoning behind her decision, Dunne cited that 'no meaningful progress' had been made between the PGA Tour and their Saudi Arabian counterparts.

CONAKRY, Guinea (AP) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived Monday in Guinea on his latest visit to West Africa, where coups and growing discontent with traditional allies like France and the United States have contributed to some countries’ shift toward Moscow.

Lavrov has visited the African continent several times in the past couple of years as Russia seeks support — or at least neutrality — from many of its 54 countries amid Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Lavrov met with Guinea’s foreign minister Morissanda Kouyaté, according to Russia’s foreign ministry. Guinea’s government in a statement said the meeting was to discuss areas of mutual cooperation, without elaborating.

Lavrov was expected to arrive in the Republic of Congo late on Monday evening, where he was due to meet President Denis Sassou N’Guesso in the city of Oyo, according to an official communique from Brazzaville. It wasn’t clear which other countries were on his itinerary later this week.

Guinea has been ruled by a military junta since 2021. Col. Mamadi Doumbouya seized power saying he was preventing Guinea from slipping into chaos and accusing the previous government of broken promises. In February, military leaders dissolved the government without explanation, saying a new one will be appointed.

Doumbouya has rebuffed attempts by the West and other developed countries to intervene in Africa’s political challenges, saying Africans are “exhausted by the categorizations with which everyone wants to box us in.”

Several West African nations including Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso have had coups that installed military juntas. They have severed or scaled back long-standing military ties with Western powers in favor of security support from Russia.

Lavrov visited Mali early last year and pledged military support. Also last year, he visited South Africa — seen as the most significant of several African nations to take a neutral stance on the war in Ukraine — and returned there to attend a meeting of BRICS bloc nations. He also visited Kenya in an outreach in East Africa.

Lavrov late last year toured North Africa , where Russia also seeks to strengthen ties in the vacuum created by the diminishing popularity of Western powers.

In West Africa, the military junta governing Burkina Faso ousted French forces last year and turned to Russia for security support. And in Niger , Russian military trainers arrived weeks after the junta that took power last year ordered U.S. troops to withdraw from the country.
