Entertainment, entertainment | pretty lights announces return from hiatus with colorado concert dates, the electronic musician hasn’t played red rocks since 2018.

In an announcement Tuesday, the artist behind the music, Derek Vincent Smith, said “I feel recharged and more ready than ever to launch a new vision of PL music and live events… It’s a new dawn and I can’t wait to see you all again shining bright.”

This new chapter starts concerts in nine cities across the U.S. on Pretty Lights’ Soundship Spacesystem Tour, including three nights at Denver’s Mission Ballroom (Aug. 4-6) and three nights at the Dillon Amphitheater in Dillon (Aug. 10-12).

Other cities on the tour include Atlanta, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Chicago, The Caverns in Tennessee, San Francisco and New Orleans. Smith will also perform at Hulaween music festival in Florida and Cascade Equinox Festival in Oregon. Tickets for the Soundship Spacesystem Tour go on presale April 5 before going on sale to the public April 7 at prettylightsmusic.com .

Pretty Lights announced his return from an extended hiatus with a video and tune riffing on The Highwaymen’s namesake track, paying homage to Johnny Cash’s verse with spacey iconography and reverb-laced melody: “I’ll find a place to rest my spirit if I can. Perhaps I may become a Pretty Light again. Or I may simply be a single drop of rain, but I will remain. And I’ll be back again.”

The last time Pretty Lights released music was in 2017. The following year, Smith, who grew up in Fort Collins, performed two nights at Red Rocks before taking an unannounced break from stage and studio. He later deleted most of his posts from social media causing fans to speculate about whether or not he’d make a comeback.

In a rare interview in 2016, Smith told The Denver Post he was intimidated by fame , especially by the reaction he received in Denver.

Pretty Lights is back! Announces 9-date comeback tour

We’ve heard rumblings. We’ve heard rumors. Today, Pretty Lights is officially back and has announced a 9-date comeback tour in Denver, Lake Dillon, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Chicago, The Caverns, San Francisco, and New Orleans.

It’s been nine years since the last Pretty Lights album, and six years since the last music he’s released at all. Fans have been clamoring for his return ever since, though still giving him the space to heal and come back in his own time.

Dates and venues have been revealed. Pre-sale begins tomorrow, April 5, at 10am local time. Watch the reveal below.

After nearly five years of silence, Pretty Lights has announced his return on Tuesday (April 4).

Pretty Lights Channels Funky ’70s Soul on ‘Rainbows & Waterfalls’

This morning, the elusive, New Orleans-based producer shared a two-minute video via social media announcing The Soundship Spacesystem Tour. The video also previews his first official new music since 2017’s “Rainbows & Waterfalls.” 

The Soundship Spacesystem Tour will hit nine stops: Denver, Lake Dillon, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Chicago, Pelham, San Francisco, and New Orleans. Besides the stop at The Caverns in Pelham, Tenn., Pretty Lights did not yet give any detail as to which venues he would be playing or specific dates. Each stop will feature Pretty Lights playing multiple nights, with 27 shows in the nine cities in total.

Meanwhile the official Pretty Lights tour will include two new types of performances: Pretty Lights in Dub and The Fantastic Pretty Lights, the latter of which is expected to be a collaboration with longtime friend Michal Menert and The Pretty Fantastics. 

The Soundship Spacesystem Tour announcement video features Pretty Lights performing a new, currently unnamed song with lyrics that seem to reflect his return to the scene: “I’ll fly a starship across the universe tonight/ And when I reach the other side/ I’ll find a place to rest my spirit if I can/ Perhaps I may become a pretty light again/ Or I may simply be a single drop of rain/ But I will remain/ And I’ll be back again.” Hear this track below.

Pretty Lights’ absence from the industry over the past five years has been a mysterious one. The producer, born Derek Vincent Smith, had last live appearance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in 2018, where he headlined the venue with his live band over two sold-out nights. Following those shows, Pretty Lights wiped his social media and began an unannounced hiatus, leaving his cult following wondering when he would return. 

Several months later, Pretty Lights appeared virtually during a live performance from friends and collaborators Break Science. On a screen behind the band, he remotely jammed with them for two of his songs, “Shining Bright Despite The Plight” and “High School Art Class.” Two years later, this past February, Pretty Lights appeared in a promotional video for Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, a small Denver venue that was celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Pretty Lights Kicks Off Soundship Spacesystem Tour in Denver with Return Livestream

Pretty lights excites fans with an epic weekend of live streams for his first stop for soundship spacesystem in denver, colorado..

Does anyone else wish they could experience the epic return of Pretty Lights after his five-year hiatus? Do you wish you could be one of the first to hear his return? Maybe you have tickets for an upcoming show in a city near you. But, why not see how unique the show will be? Well, Pretty Lights thought you might like that! This past weekend in a massive kick-off to his tour, Pretty Lights worked hard to deliver an epic Soundship Spacesystem live stream experience for his fans.

Derek Vincent Smith, the creative man behind Pretty Lights, has been a driving force in shaping the modern electronic music landscape. With huge artists like Odesza remixing your tracks to his biggest hits like “Yellow Bird” and “Finally Moving”, Pretty Lights is a must-see.  Certainly, Derek Smith carved a place for himself through his blending of soulful melodies, visionary sampling, and hypnotic rhythms to craft a sound that’s uniquely his own.

Although Pretty Lights was out of the spotlight for a while, he is making a triumphant return to the scene. His tour kicked off this past weekend in his hometown of Denver, Colorado. So, of course, he needed to do something huge to commemorate his return, right? Members of both his discord and EDM fans who follow Festive Owl were thrilled to see the announcement of Pretty Lights setting up his live stream for Twitch. Throughout the weekend, fans across the world tuned in to view the great return of this legend. On his Twitch live stream titled “Lucid Stream Debut: :PL:SSSS MISSION BALLROOM”, fans joined in to listen in. 

Honestly, what more could we ask for? In the stream, we have the best seat in the house. From seeing Pretty Lights mixes up close, seeing band members rock out, and seeing the show visuals, this was an amazing experience for fans! Certainly, Twitch viewers loved it showing support throughout the live streams in the comment sections.

Also, remember the excitement doesn’t stop in Denver. The Soundship Spacesystem Tour is set on a journey across 8 more cities, along with 2 festival appearances! You can catch Pretty Lights’ electrifying performances in Atlanta, Georgia, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. Or even at some iconic locations such as Brooklyn Mirage, the enchanting Caverns , or the streets of New Orleans. Lastly, be sure to watch his top tracks below.
