Morgan Wallen has canceled six more weeks of tour dates after re-injuring his vocal cords.

The controversial country star took to his Instagram Tuesday afternoon to share “the bad news” he received Monday after visiting the Vanderbilt Voice Center in Nashville.

“After taking 10 days of vocal rest, I performed three shows last weekend in Florida. And by the third one, I felt terrible,” he told his followers in a selfie-style video, going on to reveal the official diagnosis: vocal fold trauma.

Wallen, 29, said he was advised to “go on vocal rest for six weeks” and decided to follow doctors’ orders.

“They want me not to talk at all, but they said if I need to, it’s OK for something like this,” he explained of the verbal announcement.

The musician added that he recently – and “quietly” – tore his latissimus dorsi muscle while in Australia and would be using the downtime to recover from that, too.

Wallen assured his fans that he and his team were “working on rescheduling all the dates” of his canceled “One Night at a Time” shows and promised to keep everyone “updated.”

Due to the course of treatment he’s chosen to take, the Tennessee native explained that he would also be absent from upcoming music festival appearances as well as Wednesday’s Academy of Country Music’s Lifting Lives event and Thursday’s ACM Awards.

He’s hopeful he’ll be able to make it up to his fans “next year.”

“[My doctors] told me that if I do this the right way, that I’ll get back to 100 percent,” the “Sand In My Boots” singer shared. “And they also said that if I don’t listen and I keep singing then I permanently damage my voice.

“So for the longevity of my career, this is just the choice I have to make,” he lamented. “I hate it, but I love you guys, and I appreciate all the support that you always give me. I’ll see you soon, and I’ll be back better than ever. God bless you.”

Morgan Wallen

Last week, Wallen made a defiant return to the stage after pulling the plug on an April 23 concert in Oxford, Miss., at the very last minute.

With 60,000 attendees ready to watch the “More Than My Hometown” crooner perform, the following message appeared on the venue’s screens: “Ladies and gentlemen, unfortunately, Morgan has lost his voice and is unable to perform tonight. Therefore, tonight’s show has been canceled. Please make your way safely to the stadium exits. Refunds for tonight’s event will be available at point of purchase.”

Though the father of one apologized for the unprecedented situation, an upset concertgoer still sued him for “other out-of-pocket expenses they incurred in connection with the concert cancellation, including transportation, lodging, food, merchandise sales, transaction fees and other such expenses.”

Morgan Wallen Postpones Six Weeks of Concerts Following ‘Vocal Fold Trauma’ Diagnosis

By Jon Freeman

Jon Freeman

Morgan Wallen will be taking some time off from singing. The country star posted a video to his social accounts on Tuesday explaining that he had been placed on vocal rest for six weeks and would need to postpone upcoming tour dates, citing “vocal fold trauma.”

“I got some bad news from my doctors at the Vanderbilt Voice Center yesterday,” Wallen says in the video. “After taking 10 days of vocal rest, I performed three shows last weekend in Florida. By the third one, I felt terrible.”

Wallen goes on to say that he had his throat examined again. Doctors told him he had re-injured his vocal cords and advised six weeks of rest. Wallen also says he’s been nursing a torn lat muscle since he was on tour in Australia and felt the time off could help him heal correctly.

Controversial country singer cancels six week of tour dates for 'vocal rest'

Just a few weeks removed from an 11th hour concert cancelation in Mississipp i, Morgan Wallen is now pulling the plug on a slew of tour shows under "doctor's orders."

The "Last Night" singer took to Instagram on Tuesday, May 9, to break the "bad news" and apologize to his fans.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Morgan Wallen (@morganwallen)

"After taking 10 days of vocal rest I performed three shows last weekend in Florida and by the third one I felt terrible," she said.

Following the trio of shows on the One Night at a Time Tour, Morgan got his voice scoped and found out that he re-injured his vocal chords and has "vocal fold trauma." To correct the issue, Morgan was told to go on six weeks of vocal rest. In fact, the country superstar was told to refrain from speaking as much as possible.

In all, 14 shows — from May 18 to June 17 — are being rescheduled. He's also canceled his performance at this week's Academy of Country Music Awards, where he's up for Entertainer of the Year.

"If I do this the right way then I'll get back to 100%, and [doctors] also said if I don't listen and I keep singing I'll permanently damage my voice," he said. "So for the longevity of my career, this is just the choice I had to make. I hate it, but I love you guys."

Morgan's One Night at a Time Tour has not been without its hiccups. On April 23, the controversial singer canceled his Oxford, Miss., show moments before it was set to start, and after the opening acts had already played.

"Ladies and gentlemen, unfortunately, Morgan has lost his voice and is unable to perform tonight. Therefore, tonight's show has been canceled," a message read on the stadium's screens. "Please make your way safely to the stadium exits. Refunds for tonight's event will be available at point of purchase."

The cancelation resulted in one woman  filing a lawsuit  for the supposed financial pain caused. Another woman said Morgan owed her $3,982 for her troubles. She expected him to pay her via CashApp (among other things, she claims she's owed $629 for a shopping spree at a place called Rebel Rags).

Adding to the confusion, a viral TikTok video showed a security guard from the venue saying the vocal-rest excuse  was "bull crap."  The unidentified guard alleged that Morgan was "too drunk" to perform, "couldn't walk" and was taken away from the venue by ambulance. The man's employer and Morgan's record label refuted the security guard's allegations.

After the Mississippi situation, Morgan canceled and rescheduled three more shows, saying he was on "doctor-ordered vocal rest."

Singer abruptly walked off 'Today' gig over dressing room

Kelly Rowland

Kelly Rowland was just not destined to guest host the "Today" show.

According to a new report, the former Destiny's Child singer was set to fill in for Jenna Bush Hager in the fourth hour of "Today" on Feb. 15, 2024, but she instead walked off the set because she was unhappy with her dressing room, Page Six reported. Kelly's abrupt departure left "Today" in a bind, as producers scrambled to find a last-minute replacement.

Kelly Rowland appeared on "Today" as a guest in the 8 a.m. hour to promote her Tyler Perry-produced Netflix movie "Mea Culpa." (She stars in the film, which she also produced.) She was also set to guest host the fourth hour of the show with Hoda Kotb. However, Kelly decided to pull the plug on the hosting gig because she and her team were displeased with her dressing room — Team Kelly apparently wanted the bigger dressing room Jennifer Lopez was occupying at that moment.

"Kelly and her team were not happy. They did not like the dressing room, so they decided to pull her off the show, leaving Hoda without a guest host for the 10 a.m. hour," a source told Page Six.

Kelly Rowland's sudden exit stunned "Today" show producers.

"She's beloved at 'Today.' She was getting the full hour, and Hoda's the biggest hype woman on the planet! It made no sense," a source said, adding that Kelly and her team were playing a game of "musical dressing rooms." The Destiny's Child singer "didn't like the one she was in."

"Today" dressing rooms are known to be some of the smallest in the business, and Page Six's source even compared them to "glorified closets."

"They're not nice. It's the oldest building. There are major space limitations, [it's] not glamorous. It's not fresh flowers and candles and gourmet food. It's basically [a] white box," the insider said.

It seems that Kelly Rowland was offered multiple dressing room options, including a large utility makeup and hair area.

"They didn't want that. [The show] basically offered up as much as possible, but they weren't happy with it, so they walked and they left," the Page Six source said.

Amid the drama, singer Rita Ora volunteered to step in. The "For You" singer took over the spot intended for Kelly Rowland — and delivered a flawless performance!

Congressman sinks impeachment bid after casting vote from wheelchair, plus more reactions

shutterstock_editorial_13868776bb

A vote to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas failed in the House of Representatives after some unanticipated dramatics. Due to the hospitalization of Democratic Rep. Al Green, Republicans believed they had the votes to impeach the cabinet member. However, the Texas congressman stunned his colleagues after rushing back following abdominal surgery to vote "no," all while sitting in a wheelchair and wearing hospital scrubs. The vote failed 216-214. Four Republicans joined the Democrats in their "no" votes, but one of those votes was done as a procedural matter so that the vote can be brought up again.

Following the House drama and the unsuccessful vote, many in the House chambers reacted. From his hospital bed, Al Green, himself, told The New York Times, "I was determined to cast the vote long before — I had no idea how close it was going to be. I didn't come assuming that my vote was going to make a difference. I came because it was personal."

Keep clicking to see how others in Congress are reacting….

"The sham impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas was demanded by Donald Trump and is being led by Marjorie Taylor Greene. What does this have to do with fixing the challenges at the border? Absolutely nothing." —Rep. Hakeem Jeffries via CNN

"There was a motion to recommit. That means that we can bring the Articles of Impeachment back to the floor maybe as early as next week. So, this is not over yet." —Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene

"Welcome to another week of Impeachment Unlimited. Having no legislative accomplishments to show for their 14 months in power, Republicans are voting on yet another pointless resolution. These are not serious people." —Rep. Adam Schiff

"Last night was a setback but democracy is messy. We live in a time of divided government. We have a razor-thin margin here and every vote counts. Sometimes when people show up when they're not expected to be in the building it changes the equation. We have a duty and a responsibility to take care of this issue…We will pass those articles of impeachment. We'll do it on the next time round." —House Speaker Mike Johnson

"Wouldn't it have been nice to still have Kevin McCarthy in the House? Never thought you'd hear me say that. But McCarthy after being dislodged as speaker took his marbles and went home, he would have been a reliable vote for impeachment, but if we wasn't speaker, he wasn't willing to stick around…  the abject selfishness of Kevin McCarthy contributed to this result" —Rep. Matt Gaetz via Newsmax

"This is a not a high crime or misdemeanor. This is not an impeachable offense. This is a policy difference … it's wrong, and we should not set this precedent." —Rep. Ken Buck

"The Trump-Putin-maga faction, headed up by the distinguished gentlelady from Georgia, has been given this worthless trinket on a consolation prize, the opportunity to bring a slapstick impeachment drive against a cabinet member of unimpeachable integrity who has obviously committed no treason, no bribery, no high crimes, not misdemeanors, nothing indictable or even in-dict-able, if you prefer." —Rep. Jamie Raskin

"Secretary Mayorkas is guilty of maladministration of our immigration laws on a cosmic scale. But we KNOW that's not grounds for impeachment, because the American Founders specifically rejected it." —Rep. Tom McClintock

"This is insanity! We are on the floor! MAGA Mike is upset he can't deliver for daddy Trump and holding us on the floor where the vote is tied 215-215 which means the BS impeachment fails!" –Rep. Jasmine Crockett

"When you have no record of accomplishment to run on, nothing on education, nothing on health care, nothing about creating jobs, nothing on the environment, nothing about keeping people safe, this is what you do. You put on a circus. And that's why we're here today" –Rep. Joaquin Castro

"Welcome to the Marjorie Taylor Greene impeachment show. She has been leading these efforts to impeach Secretary Mayorkas and the President, all to help Donald Trump's campaign. Her insanity must be stopped." —Rep. Robert Garcia

"With a tight majority these things happen. Still doesn't mean I'm not annoyed and deeply disappointed and angry. But I do think he will be impeached within the next month or two." —Rep. Pat Fallon via the Texas Tribune

"The impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas was nothing but a baseless, political ploy to help Donald Trump in the 2024 Election. Tonight, we defeated this sham impeachment and protected the rule of law, the solemn power of impeachment, and our Constitution." —Rep Dan Goldman

Oscar winner and long-term partner 'exchanged vows' for their three kids before he died following a secret years-long battle with ALS: Report

Sandra Bullock and longtime partner Bryan Randall were every bit a husband-wife team despite not being legally married. In fact, they were so committed that they reportedly "exchanged vows" in 2017.

On Aug. 8, DailyMail.com published a video of the couple dancing on the beach in the Bahamas allegedly following an intimate ceremony during which they exchanged vows.

country singer cancels tour

"They really did this for the children, to kind of seal the deal and show them this was a forever thing. After the ceremony [Sandra's kids] Louis and Laila started calling Bryan dad," a source shared.

The Academy Award-winning actress and began dating the model-turned-photographer in 2015 after they met when he photographed her son's birthday party. Although Sandra has spoken publicly about never wanting to marry again, she called Bryan "the love of my life" on a 2021 episode of "Red Table Talk."

"We share two beautiful children — three children, [including Bryan's] older daughter. It's the best thing ever," she said. At the time, she didn't reference his health issues.

Bryan passed away on Aug. 5 following a secret three-year battle with ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. He was 57.

While Sandra's sister said the actress was there until the end, an insider told DailyMail.com that Bryan's illness did strain their relationship. But they were "more together than ever" at the time of his death, the insider added. Sandra also arranged and paid for his around-the-clock care.

Interestingly, split rumors had surrounded the couple for the better part of a year, largely due to the fact they hadn't been seen together in public for a while. That speculation actually helped them keep his health battle private.

"Sandra kept Bryan hidden away in the back of the house. It's so big that you could conceal what was going on with him but towards the end she really didn't let people into the home beyond the doctors and nurses who were looking after him," the insider said. "It was quite convenient for them to have these rumors that they'd broken up because it helped conceal what was really going on. It was easier to let people assume they hadn't seen him because they were no longer together."

A separate source noted, "The relationship was absolutely strained by it, and it was really hard for the children. He had been living in one of her Malibu properties for a while just because it was nicer for him to be there, by the ocean, and I think some people assumed they had split because it looked like they were living separately, but there weren't. She'd have the house stocked up with everything he needed, and his nurses would go there."

According to a statement from Bryan's family released after his death, "Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request." The statement continued, "We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours. At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan." The statement was signed by, "His Loving Family."

Singer's nanny killed in freak accident after elderly driver crashed SUV into reception area at car dealership

Yadira Calito — who nannied Katharine McPhee and David Foster's son — died in a freak accident after she was run over by an SUV at a car dealership in the Los Angeles area.

According to reports, an unnamed 84-year-old woman went to a San Fernando Valley car dealership on Aug. 11 to get her Toyota RAV4 serviced. She then somehow hit the gas pedal rather than the brakes, launching her vehicle from the service bay driveway into the customer reception area.

Yadira, who was at the dealership, suddenly found herself pinned under the car and was dragged for about 20 feet, TMZ reported. Kat and David's nanny was eventually freed from under the car and, according to DailyMail.com , an off-duty nurse started performing CPR on her before emergency services arrived.

The nanny to Kat and David's 2-year-old son, Rennie, was eventually transported to a hospital in critical condition but later died.

Two men working at the dealership were also injured in the shocking incident, but their injuries were not life-threatening. The driver of the car stayed on site to answer authorities' questions and declined to be taken to the hospital. She was not arrested.

Images from the crash — which occurred around 9 a.m. — show the white SUV parked among shattered glass.

Upon learning about Yadira's injuries and death Katharine — who found fame as a runner-up on "American Idol" in 2006 — canceled two shows in Asia, where she was touring with her Grammy-winning husband.

"Dearest Jakarta fans, it's with heavy heart I announce I have to miss our final two shows of our Asia run," she  wrote on Instagram  on Aug. 11 without providing further details. "David and I have had a horrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us need to get back home to our family."

She added, "Please know how sorry I am and how much I wish to return one day and perform for you all. Love Katharine."

The songstress flew back to Los Angeles the same day. TMZ reported that the superstar couple considered Yadira "family." After several celebrity friends, including David's ex-wife Linda Thompson, commented with well wishes, Kat disabled the comments section of her Instagram.

On Aug. 17, the car dealership, Hamer Toyota, issued a statement about what happened. "We extend our deepest condolences to Yadira's family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. The loss of such a vibrant life in such tragic circumstances is a heavy burden to bear, and we share in their grief," the dealership's director of communications told Us Weekly.

"At Hamer Toyota, we take the safety of our customers and our community very seriously. We are fully cooperating with the Los Angeles Police Department as they conduct their investigation into this unfortunate event," the spokesperson added. "Our commitment is to ensure transparency, assist the LAPD in every possible way, and to learn from this incident so we can prevent such tragedies in the future. In these moments of profound sadness, we ask our community to join us in remembering Yadira and extending our collective support to her loved ones."

Viral tanning salon mom reveals why she's running for a U.S. Senate seat in Florida as a Republican

Remember "Tan Mom"? In 2012, she went viral after she took her 5-year-old daughter to a New Jersey tanning salon. Now the pop culture personality — whose real name is Patricia Krentcil — is running for office.

country singer cancels tour

On Jan. 15, 2023, Patricia filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to run for a U.S. Senate seat in Florida,  TMZ  confirmed. She's challenging incumbent GOP senator Rick Scott in the 2024 election — and she's running as a Republican despite not exactly following the party line on multiple issues, especially amid a controversy-filled political climate in Florida, where she now calls Boca Raton home.

Patricia spoke to "TMZ Live" to explain why she's running, explaining that she's not a fan of some of Republican governor Ron DeSantis's controversial policies and thinks others in her party feel the same way.

"I was blessed and was able to be a part of raising money for the Sunshine Cathedral in Florida. I saw the amazing work they had done and it really impressed me," Patricia told TMZ, referring to the Ft. Lauderdale church with a ministry based in progressive Christianity that has a constituency of same-gender and gender non-conforming people and prides itself on being a safe and open community for LGBTQ+ people to worship.

Patricia also said she's concerned about the banning of books in her new home state. "I was horrified about the book banning [in schools] in Florida … just a lot of the episodes that are going on here," she told TMZ. "And nobody is addressing them."

She also said Medicaid was an issue for her, as she believes it's "just being abominably banished for the elderly especially. That's three reasons I started doing this," she added of what sparked her interest in going to Washington.

During their chat, TMZ founder Harvey Levin pointed out that Patricia's positions make her sound more like a Democrat than a Republican. But according to her, she's running as  Republican because "I've always been a Republican and my feeling and my issues may sound more Democratic but I am a Republican through and through," she insisted.

"I'm trying to embrace it for people who realize the situation at hand, more today than it ever was, and maybe if I sound more like a Republican, Republicans need to take this not for granted," she continued.

She's hoping people will see her in a new light. "I don't want to be known as what I was as 'Tan Mom.' I've grown and I'm here to help and want to help people that are struggling," she said. "And maybe more Republicans should have a different taste in their mouth when they're trying to help people in the world today."

Patricia further told TMZ, "I know that I am different. And I have suffered for it. But us all being different is what makes this country so amazing and unique."

According to the New York Post , her candidacy comes as she's starring in the TV docuseries "Tan to 10," which chronicles her efforts to stop tanning and change her life. Patricia – who went to rehab for alcohol addiction in 2013 – named her producers Gregg Maliff and Adam Barta as her campaign managers.

Princess of Pop and actor-trainer husband of 14 months are divorcing

Britney Spears and her husband of 14 months, Sam Asghari, are divorcing.

TMZ reported on Aug. 16 that the duo separated the previous week after a "nuclear argument" during which Sam confronted her over unconfirmed rumors that she'd been unfaithful .

"It's only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce," a source shared.

country singer cancels tour

Sam filed for divorce later the same day, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split and listing July 28 as their date of separation. In court documents, he's asking for spousal support and attorneys fees.

The writing was seemingly on the wall, as reports of blowout fights and arguments between the two have been floating around for several months. In May, a TMZ documentary claimed their marriage was in "deep trouble" and that Sam was rarely staying in their home. Britney even ditched her wedding ring during a spring vacation in Puerto Rico.

Sam was simply at his "wits' end" with Britney's often erratic behavior , the webloid reported.

Publicly, though, Sam has backed his wife, recently defending her following a physical incident with an NBA player in Las Vegas in July.

country singer cancels tour

Britney and Sam met in 2016 when he starred in one of her music videos. They quickly began dating and became rather inseparable. The couple got engaged in the midst of her conservatorship battle , and they eventually tied the knot in June 2022.

Prior to their 2022 wedding, the "Toxic" singer's lawyers set up an "ironclad prenup" to ensure the finances and assets Britney had going into the marriage would remain hers should she and Sam ever call it quits. Britney has an estimated net worth of $60 million. Regardless, it's believed that she will likely settle things with Sam financially. Divorce docs hint at a potential prenup challenge, TMZ reported, with Sam's attorney noting the actor-trainer "has yet to determine the full nature and extent of the separate property assets and obligations of each party" and that "There are various items of community and quasi-community assets and debts, the full nature and extent of which are unknown to [Sam] at this time."

Her crumbling marriage is just  one piece of the troubling puzzle involving the Princess of Pop. According to a February TMZ  report, those close to Britney  felt an intervention was direly needed  because people around her had become deeply alarmed by what TMZ described as "her erratic, volatile behavior." A source told the webloid that the singer was taking medications that "hype her up" — but not taking the medications that stabilize her — and that she'd been "flying off the handle" with increasing regularity. But an intervention was suddenly scrapped, TMZ reported, after Britney caught wind of it. "I'm afraid she's gonna die," one source in regular contact with Britney told TMZ at the time.

'Fast & Furious' star sues The Home Depot for $450M for discriminating against him

Singer-actor Tyrese Gibson is accusing The Home Depot of discrimination and racial profiling after an incident in February that occurred at one of the brand's California stores.

country singer cancels tour

On Aug. 9, the "Fast & Furious" franchise star and two other plaintiffs — Eric Mora and Manuel Hernandez, craftsmen who've provided construction services to the singer-actor — filed a lawsuit claiming "outrageous discriminatory mistreatment and consumer racial profiling" at a Home Depot in West Hills, California, on Feb. 11, 2023.

NBC News reported that in the complaint, Tyrese says he, Eric and Manuel went to The Home Depot together to buy some materials for a project they were doing at his home. A cashier allegedly took 20 minutes to ring up the items. Meanwhile, other shoppers began recognizing and approaching the actor, prompting him to wait in his vehicle to prevent a disturbance. Before he went outside, Tyrese told the cashier that the craftsmen with him would complete the sale on his behalf. The suit claims Eric and Manuel were not allowed to do so, which led Tyrese to come back inside to show ID so they could finish the transaction. He asked to speak to a manager, who allegedly refused.

country singer cancels tour

"The actions of the cashier and manager were discriminatory based on race and origin," the complaint states. "There is no other plausible explanation for the mistreatment of Plaintiffs. The transaction was refused, despite Gibson's repeated authorizations, because of Plaintiffs' skin color and, in the case of Mora and Hernandez, also because of their national origin."

The suit calls the "humiliating and demeaning" interaction "a clear and deplorable instance of discriminatory mistreatment and consumer racial profiling" and further alleges that The Home Depot has "doubled down, lawyered-up" instead of holding itself accountable for what transpired. In short, The Home Depot "invited this civil rights lawsuit," the complaint further alleges. "This is the absolute height of hypocrisy for a company that disingenuously promotes itself to the world as 'an environment of mutual respect that is free of harassment and discrimination.'"

According to court documents, the three plaintiffs are seeking more than $1 million in damages, which Entertainment Weekly reported is how much Tyrese estimates he's spent at The Home Depot over the years, plus statutory damages, attorney's fees, punitive damages, a declaratory judgment confirming that The Home Depot's actions violated California's Unruh Civil Rights Act, pre-judgment and post-judgment interest and also "such other relief as the Court may deem just and proper."

The actor's team released a statement on his Instagram page on Aug. 11 alongside a video of Tyrese speaking to The Home Depot staff inquiring about their policies. According to the social media post, they're seeking a total of $450 million in damages.

"Craftsmen Eric Mora and Manuel Hernandez are an integral part of my team and have made significant contributions to my visions for over a decade. Together, we ardently uphold our commitments to civil rights, promoting empathy, and understanding," the statement began. It continued, "The Home Depot, we envision a world free from discriminatory practices and consumer racial profiling. Just as I have done for the past 20-plus years, I pledge to continue to utilize my platform to empower the voiceless, fostering a spirit of unity and hope, while illuminating our shared path forward."

The Home Depot claims they've tried to address what happened: "Diversity and respect for all people are core to who we are, and we do not tolerate discrimination in any form," a company spokesperson told Today.com in a statement on Aug. 11. "We value Mr. Gibson as a customer, and in the months since this happened, we've reached out to him and his attorneys several times to try to resolve his concerns. We will continue to do so."

TV star leaves ESPN after settling lawsuit over Obama race and COVID vaccine comments

After 16 years, Sage Steele has left ESPN so that she can exercise her First Amendment rights "more freely," the broadcaster said. The ex-"SportsCenter" host and her former company both confirmed the news on Aug. 15.

"Life update. Having successfully settled my case with ESPN/Disney, I have decided to leave so I can exercise my first amendment rights more freely. I am grateful for so many wonderful experiences over the past 16 years and am excited for my next chapter!" she shared on social media.

In a statement, ESPN said the company and Sage "mutually agreed to part ways," adding, "We thank her for her many contributions over the years."

The announcement comes after Sage settled a lawsuit with the company that she filed in 2022. In that suit, she claimed ESPN violated her First Amendment rights as well as Connecticut free-speech laws when she was suspended over public comments she made about the network's COVID vaccine policy and former President Barack Obama's racial identity.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sage Steele (@sagesteele)

It all began when Sage was a guest on a September 2021 episode of the "Uncut With Jay Cutler" podcast. She said she'd just been vaccinated against the coronavirus but called ESPN and parent company The Walt Disney Co.'s corporate vaccine mandate "sick" and "scary to me in many ways."

She also shared on the podcast that she felt late TV journalist Barbara Walters had belittled her for identifying as biracial. (Sage's father is Gary Steele, the first Black football player at U.S. Military Academy West Point, and mother is Mona Steele, who is white.)

Sage said that after the founder of "The View" asked her what race she'd choose on the census and she responded, "well, both," Barbara made a comment about Barack choosing Black. "And I'm like, well, congratulations to the president," Sage said on the podcast. "That's his thing. I think that's fascinating considering his Black dad was nowhere to be found but his white mom and grandma raised him. But hey, you do you. I'm going to do me."

In the wake of her podcast comments, ESPN took her off the air for 10 days and pulled her from several big assignments at the network. "At ESPN, we embrace different points of view — dialogue and discussion makes this place great," the company said in a statement. "That said, we expect that those points of view be expressed respectfully, in a manner consistent with our values, and in line with our internal policies."

Sage issued an apology, saying in a statement, "I know my recent comments created controversy for the company, and I apologize. We are in the midst of an extremely challenging time that impacts all of us, and it's more critical than ever that we communicate constructively and thoughtfully."

In her lawsuit, which was filed in 2022, her lawyers accused ESPN of relying "on the misleading characterizations of her comments" and said her employer "forced her to apologize, allowed media to destroy her, and let media reports that she had been suspended go unchallenged, and allowed Steele's colleagues to defame her in violation of company policy without so much as a reprimand."

The Associated Press reported that in June 2023, court documents showed that ESPN offered to settle Sage's claims for $501,000.00 plus reasonable attorney's fees and costs. Details on their settlement terms, however, were not made public when Sage and the company announced they'd parted ways in August.

Morgan Wallen shared some hard news with fans on Tuesday morning (May 9) in an Instagram video in which he revealed that he needs to take six weeks off from his current tour. “I’m just gonna go ahead and get straight to it. I got some bad news from my doctors at the Vanderbilt Voice Center yesterday. After taking 10 days of vocal rest I performed three shows last weekend in Florida and by the third one I felt terrible,” the singer said.

Morgan Wallen Back on Stage After Giving Fans Health Update: ‘I’m Doing A Lot Better…

He added that he tore his lat muscle while on tour in Australia and while he’s been trying to work through that injury in private, the upcoming time off should help with that issue as well. Wallen said his team is almost finished rescheduling all his current and upcoming dates, with news about all the shows expected soon. Following last week’s trio of shows in Jacksonville, West Palm Beach and Tampa, Wallen was not scheduled to perform again until a May 18 gig at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, PA.

In addition to two shows at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, Wallen had gigs on tap in Austin and Houston, TX on May 24 and 26, a pair of shows in Atlanta on June 2-3, an appearance at the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam in Panama City Beach, FL, two shows at Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater in Virginia Beach, VA on June 8-9 and a June 10 spot at the Carolina Country Music Fest in Myrtle Beach, SC on June 10. The singer was booked to play a series of stadium shows in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Chicago and Detroit through the end of June. At press time spokespeople for Wallen had not announced which shows have been impacted or potential replacement dates.

“They told me that if I do this the right way, I’ll get back to 100% and they also said that if I don’t listen and I keep singing, then I’ll permanently damage my voice,” Wallen said of his doctor’s advice. “So for the longevity of my career, this is just a choice I had to make. I hate it. But I love you guys, and I appreciate all the support that you always give me.”

According to a release from Wallen’s spokesperson, tickets for the original dates will be honored for all rescheduled performances and a 30-day refund window will open at the point of purchase when the new dates are announced; missed festival dates will be rescheduled for 2024.

Wallen made news last month after canceling a planned show at Oxford, MS’s Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on April 23 after his opening acts performed and just moments before he was to take the stage. “I thought I was going to be good to go and I just wasn’t,” he said in a message to the 60,000 disappointed fans who were sent home that night without seeing him.

Morgan Wallen has canceled six weeks of shows.

Wallen shared a video to his Instagram account on Tuesday explaining he got "bad news" from his doctor. After taking 10 days of vocal rest and then performing three shows, he has re-injured his vocal cords.

The country music star was told he has vocal fold trauma and needs to take six weeks of vocal rest. "So, that's what I'm going to do."

He has also been advised by doctors not to talk at all.

"We're working on rescheduling all the dates during this time frame," he explained.

"They told me that if I do this the right way, I'll get back to 100%." He was told if he "keeps singing," he could "permanently damage" his voice.

"I hate it, but I love you guys," Wallen told his fans. "And I appreciate all the support you always give me."

The news comes after Wallen previously angered fans by canceling a show after the opening act and just minutes before he was set to take the stage. Wallen was set to perform at Ole Miss stadium on April 23. The singer shared a statement to his Instagram revealing he had lost his voice and was unable to sing.

"After last night's show I started losing my voice so I spent the day resting up, talking to my doctor and working through my vocal exercises trying to get better," he explained at the time. "I really thought I'd be able to take the stage and it kills me to deliver this so close to showtime, but my voice is shot and I am unable to sing."

Some fans took to social media to express their anger following the cancelation.

"Completely disappointed in @MorganWallen!! Been sitting in this stadium for 3 hrs and he just announced the show is canceled!!!" one user wrote on Twitter. "COMPLETE BULLS---!!!"

"Cool but what about the dog sitter, baby sitter, hotel, PTO, and gas money we took for this?" another user wrote . "You knew this morning @morganwallen."

Despite Wallen's statement about his vocal issues, a TikTok video went viral suggesting the country music star had canceled his concert because he got too drunk the night before.

Big Loud CEO Seth England refuted the false rumors and shared a statement on social media from Best Crowd Management, the company that handled security for the concert.

Morgan Wallen apologizes after canceling his concert minutes before he was scheduled to take the stage: 'My voice is shot'

  • Morgan Wallen canceled his Sunday concert minutes before he was slated to take the stage.
  • After many fans were already in the stadium at Ole Miss, a message appeared saying the show was off.
  • The country singer later apologized, writing on Instagram, "It kills me to deliver this so close to showtime."

Insider Today

The controversial country singer Morgan Wallen upset many of his fans on Sunday night after he canceled his concert minutes before he was slated to perform.

Some fans who attended the show at the Vaught Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi, documented the experience on social media after being met with a black-and-white message on the stage's big screen, announcing the last-minute cancelation.

"Ladies and gentlemen, unfortunately, Morgan has lost his voice and is unable to perform tonight," the message read, according to photos on social media. "Therefore, tonight's show has been canceled. Please make your way safely to the stadium exits. Refunds for tonight's event will be available at point of purchase."

Insider reached out to representatives for Wallen on Monday, who pointed to the country singer's statement on Instagram to explain why he had to bow out of the show.

In the statement, the 29-year-old musician apologized, saying there was nothing he could do after trying to get his voice to return.

"After last night's show I started losing my voice so I spent the day resting up, talking to my doctor and working through my vocal exercise trying to get better," his statement began.

"I really thought I'd be able to take the stage and it kills me to deliver this so close to showtime, but my voice is shot and I am unable to sing," Wallen wrote. "I am so sorry, I promise you guys I tried everything I could."

In a follow-up statement, also shared on his Instagram story, Wallen said he feels "horrible about this news."

"Y'all know how important my fans are to me," he wrote. "There's nothing more I want to do than be on stage playing for you guys."

The former "The Voice" contestant also announced that, due to "doctor-ordered vocal rest," he would reschedule his remaining shows this week in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Moline, Illinois; and Lincoln, Nebraska.

"I appreciate and understand everything you do to get to my shows, so it would be unfair of me to put on a show that I know will not be 100%," he wrote. "I'm doing everything I can to speed up the process of getting to that 100% mark."

Concertgoers have been open about their disappointment online. One even filed a federal lawsuit on Monday accusing Wallen of breach of contract and negligence, according to court documents obtained by Page Six  and  TMZ .

Others have shared their experiences on TikTok, with one fan complaining that she drove 11 hours to attend the Mississippi show.

"Thank you, Morgan Wallen. I was a major fan and now I will never fucking listen to your music again," she said in the video , which has racked up more than 5 million views on the app.

Another concertgoer shared a video of a security guard at the venue , who claimed Wallen's real reason for canceling was intoxication.

"Losing his voice is bull crap," the security guard said, adding, "Too drunk. And the ambulance just took him off."

However, the venue's security company, Best Crowd Management, denied the security guard's claims in a statement shared on Instagram.

"A hired employee of BEST Crowd Management made false claims as it related to last night's Morgan Wallen concert and we do not stand behind the detail in his statement," the company wrote. "Please refer to Morgan's social media pages for details."

Back in 2021, Wallen checked himself into rehab after TMZ published a video of him yelling a racial slur.

Following intense backlash, Big Loud Records suspended Wallen's recording contract "indefinitely" and major radio stations pulled his songs from rotation .

Wallen later told fans he was "on hour 72 of 72-hour bender" when the incident was recorded.

"I had some longtime friends in town and we had been partying all weekend. We just figured we'd go hard. I was around some of my friends and we say dumb stuff together. In our minds, it's playful," he said in an interview with "Good Morning America" host Michael Strahan.

"It was just around this certain group of friends," he said, adding, "We were all clearly drunk."

Wallen spent 30 days in rehab in San Diego, "just trying to figure out if I have an alcohol problem or a deeper issue," he said.

However, just a few weeks after the interview, Wallen made a cameo at Luke Bryan's concert in Nashville and took tequila shots onstage .

Despite his controversial behavior over the years — including being arrested for public intoxication and partying without a mask at the height of the pandemic — Wallen's album "One Thing at a Time" is currently No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week for the seventh week in a row.

The country star made history last week after three of his songs, "Last Night," "Though You Should Know," and "One Thing at a Time," landed in the top 10 of Billboard's Country Airplay chart.

Luke Bryan cancels his Mississippi concert: What we know about his illness

country singer cancels tour

Luke Bryan is playing a balancing game, weighing show cancelations against the strength of his voice as he continues his tour across the country.

The 30-time country chart-topper has canceled or postponed three shows already with the latest Sunday in Brandon, Mississippi .

"I am regretfully going to have to cancel my show there tonight," Bryan posted on Instagram Sunday morning. "Under doctor advisement after taking 6 days off to heal I attempted to sing at both shows Thursday and Saturday and it was a struggle."

The cancelation in Mississippi came after a sold-out show at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Saturday night.

He's scheduled to perform in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the Riverbend Music Center on Thursday.

Luke Bryan explains illness amid coughing fits

During his Nashville show, Bryan described his illness as nothing more than a "head cold."

Despite several days of rest, Bryan suffered several coughing fits between songs Saturday.

Bryan previously postponed a show in Salt Lake City, Utah and canceled another in Boise, Idaho, before tapping Lainey Wilson to replace him as headliner at the Watershed Festival in George, Washington.

Why did Luke Bryan cancel the Brandon, Mississippi show?

In his Instagram post on Sunday, he said he risks further strain each time he performs.

"Every show I sing I'm setting my voice back," he wrote. "I will continue to do everything I can to get better. Please know how much you mean to me and how heartbreaking this is to do."

Ticketmaster noted the show was canceled, rather than postponed, and refunds would be issued at the point of sale.

Luke Bryan struggled through Nashville concert performance

Bryan persevered through his setlist Saturday but altered it to better suit his condition. He was open and honest with the crowd that he was not at peak performance and several songs would be performed in an acoustic set.

About 30 minutes into the show, he frankly said "I'm dying up here," before continuing on.

The changes threw Bryan off at least once, noting he was in the wrong key for one song.

"My band has no idea what we're doing; they're holding on for dear life," Bryan joked.

What's next for Luke Bryan?

In the middle of his tour, Bryan will stop for a return to Las Vegas.

Bryan will perform 12 nights starting Aug. 30 at Resorts World in an intimate theater where the furthest seat from the stage is only 150 feet away.

"In an incredible modern venue, we're trying to put an iconic, globally-acceptable, stadium-style show with arena rock-style elements and moments where it's just me, stripped down with an acoustic guitar, playing the piano, or telling jokes," Bryan said.

Morgan Wallen faces possible lawsuits from fans after the country star abruptly canceled his show in Mississippi over the weekend, citing vocal rest ordered by his doctor.

At least two law firms have said they are considering suing Wallen to recover thousands of dollars that fans poured into attending the concert scheduled for April 23 in Oxford, Miss., according to reports.

Nearly 60,000 fans had packed into Vaught Hemingway Stadium at the University of Mississippi in cold conditions on Sunday evening. Fans were stunned as they were told from the stage’s speakers and on its screens that Wallen “lost his voice and is unable to perform tonight.”

Wallen’s new opus is destined to be one of the year’s best sellers, despite (or because of) its unwillingness to address the singer’s scandal from 2021.

March 3, 2023

The show in Oxford was set to be Wallen’s fifth stop on his One Night at a Time world tour , which runs until October. On Monday, Wallen apologized to fans on his Instagram and announced he would postpone three other stops on the tour due to “doctor-ordered vocal rest.” The postponed shows include ones in Grand Rapids, Mich., Moline, Ill., and Lincoln, Neb.

“I appreciate and understand everything you do to get to my shows,” Wallen wrote . “So it would be unfair of me to put on a show that I know will not be 100%.”

One Mississippi firm filed a class action lawsuit Monday but voluntarily dismissed it Tuesday, announcing that the firm planned to refile with a different fan as the plaintiff, according to the Jackson, Miss., NBC affiliate WLBT .

“We have been contacted by numerous individuals who spent thousands of dollars — separate and apart from the cost of their ticket — who would like to see legal redress as well,” the Langston & Lott law firm wrote in a Facebook post, which has since been made private, according to WLBT. “We plan to re-file the class action lawsuit with a new plaintiff in the coming days.”

Review: Morgan Wallen in L.A.: a country superstar, live and apparently un-canceled

What’s clear about the country musician, who touched down Saturday night at Crypto.com Arena for the first of two sold-out concerts, is that being caught on video drunkenly using the N-word has not derailed his career.

Sept. 25, 2022

“The second lawsuit, like the first, will seek compensation on behalf of all those affected, not just one person,” the firm continued. “Tens of thousands of people collectively spent millions to attend this event, and those affected are entitled to know the truth and to be made whole.”

Another Mississippi firm said it planned to start investigating Wallen’s cancellation, urging fans not to accept refunds from concert organizers, according to the Mississippi Clarion Ledger .

“The sudden cancellation raises red flags and should be investigated,” wrote Benjamin Philley of Kilpatrick & Philley on Facebook. “A refund of the ticket price is insufficient to compensate us for our actual out-of-pocket expense. Like everyone affected, I want answers and will not rest until I get them.”

Neither Philley, Langston & Lotte nor Wallen’s management immediately responded to The Times’ requests for comment.

Some fans of the country music star expressed their disappointment online.

“Drive 10 hours for a concert, Morgan cancels at least we saw Hardy!” tweeted @auroraliane_ along with video from the concert’s announcement. “The amount of grown women crying on ground was insane.”

In 2020, Wallen was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and disorderly conduct after he was kicked out of a Kid Rock event. The following year, Wallen was caught on a neighbor’s security camera drunkenly using the N-word to refer to a friend .

But Wallen has been able to recover his career and started touring again in 2022. He also performs at award shows, including the Billboard Music Awards last year.

Wallen’s latest album, “ One Thing at a Time ,” was released in March and has sat atop the Billboard 200 charts for seven weeks.

Country singer Hardy cancels tour dates due to serious anxiety: ‘It has taken over my life’

Country music singer Hardy has pulled out from two of his upcoming shows, citing anxiety stemming from his 2022 bus accident .

The “He Went to Jared” singer shared that his extreme anxiety had  caused him to seek hospital treatment in an Oct. 3 Instagram post .

“I need to be honest with everyone for a second,” Hardy began his post. “I’ve been dealing with some serious anxiety since the bus accident last year, and over the last two weeks, it has taken control of my life. It’s caused me to suffer many panic attacks, which have landed me in the hospital.”

In October 2022, Hardy — whose real name is Michael Hardy — announced on Instagram  that he and three others had  sustained “significant injuries”  after his tour bus was involved in an accident.

The singer said he needed “a moment to focus on me and to make myself better for my wife, family and you, the fans.” According to his post, he canceled his Mockingbird and The Crow Fall tour shows set to take place on Oct. 5 and 7.

Hardy further explained that tickets for the two shows — set to take place in Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Brandon, Mississippi —will be refunded from the point of purchase.

The singer noted that the Georgia Rodeo show — set to take place on Oct. 6 in Winterville, Georgia — will be pushed to next year on April 12, 2024.

Hardy said he plans to return “focused” for his tour on Oct. 12.”

“Thank you for understanding,” he finished his post. “See you soon.”

Hardy’s bus accident occurred on the night of Oct. 1, 2022, as he and three members of his team left his show in Bristol, Tennessee.

In a statement issued to his Instagram at the time, the country singer shared that while he’d been released from his treatment at a hospital, doctors ordered him to take weeks to recover. At the time of his release, Hardy said that the driver of his tour bus remained in the hospital and asked followers to pray for his recovery.

Country star Eric Church cancels show so he can watch UNC-Duke Final Four game, angers fans

Eric Church performs during the 57th Academy of Country Music Awards at Allegiant Stadium on March 7, 2022, in Las Vegas.

Country star Eric Church upset some fans Tuesday when he announced he was canceling an upcoming tour date so he could attend an NCAA Final Four tournament match on the same night.

Fans posted screenshots of an email they received on Ticketmaster from Church, saying he was refunding tickets for his Saturday show at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Church said he was canceling the date so that he could watch his beloved University of North Carolina men's basketball team face off against rival Duke University.

Church, who refers to his fans as the "Church choir," reportedly said giving up the show was the "most selfish" thing he could ask of them.

"As a lifelong Carolina basketball fan, I've watched Carolina and Duke battle over the years but to have them matchup for the first time in the history of the NCAA Tournament is any sports enthusiast's dream," the email said, according to multiple screenshots online.

A representative for Church told NBC News on Wednesday that the singer could not commit to a rescheduled date at this time.

Some fans who had tickets for the show posted their frustration online, including those who made plans to travel for the concert and could not receive refunds for airfare or hotels.

"One year of waiting and got a hotel, rental and dinner reservation to try to cancel now. Not to mention flew my parents into town to watch the kids for the weekend," one fan tweeted .

Some sports fans, who did not appear to be ticket holders for the canceled event, joked that Church was an " absolute legend " for the decision.

Located about 10 miles apart in North Carolina — Duke in Durham and UNC in Chapel Hill — the two elite basketball programs have a longstanding rivalry. The Bleacher Report said in 2014 that it has been "regarded as the greatest rivalry in college basketball," as the two powerhouse teams routinely fight for dominance on both national and local stages.

So for a few people who didn't have a stake in the concert, Church's choice to cancel the tour date was labeled " relatable and hilarious ."

He made it through, but it was a struggle, his voice cracked a few times, but it was still an amazing show. Hope you rest and feel better soon♥️"

Alan Jackson Last Call farewell tour retirement Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease CMT country music

Alan Jackson performs at the 56th annual Academy of Country Music Awards on April 15, 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee. Jackson, 65, discussed his "Last Call" farewell tour and his health struggles with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease in a video posted to X. Country music legend Alan Jackson expanded on his decision to retire and his health struggles just days after announcing his “Last Call: One More for the Road” farewell tour in late May.

Jackson, 65, will play his final 10 tour dates across the U.S. from August to May 2025. After that, the two-time Grammy Award winner said he wants to enjoy his “twilight years” with his family at home.

“I’ve been touring for over 30 years, you know, played everywhere in the country and parts of the world and had a wonderful career,” Jackson said in a video posted to X . The video began with a question, “What makes now the time?”. “I’m getting into my twilight years, and all my daughters are grown, and I got one grandchild and one on the way. (I) enjoy spending more time at home, and don’t want to be away like I had to be in my younger days, and I don’t tour as much now as I did 10 years ago. I think it’s just getting time to start thinking about hanging it up full-time.”

Jackson also mentioned his battles with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT), a chronic nerve disease that affects peripheral nerves outside the brain and spinal cord while also affecting muscle control in feet and hands, according to the Cleveland Clinic . He first revealed his CMT diagnosis during an interview on “Today” in September 2021. While there’s no cure for CMT, treatments include physical therapy, leg braces, special footwear, surgery and/or medications for symptoms.

“Most of my fans know I have a degenerative health condition that affects my legs and arms and my mobility that I got from my daddy and it’s getting worse,” Jackson said in the video. “So, it makes me more uncomfortable on stage and I just have a hard time. I just want to think about maybe calling it quits before I’m unable to do the job like I want to.”

What Happens When a Concert Tour Is Canceled? An Insurance Expert Answers the Million-Dollar Question

An insurance expert answers burning questions about what happens when an artist cancels a tour

country singer cancels tour

  • Amid a slew of concert cancellations, an insurance expert answers questions about what happens to all the money at stake
  • Cancellations due to things out of an artist's control, like medical reasons, are typically covered
  • Insurance will cover typically between 75 and 80% of the guaranteed fee that the promoter was paying the artist

In late May, The Black Keys announced that they’d be pumping the brakes on their upcoming North American tour, and planned to offer fans a more “intimate experience” than the arenas they’d had planned. Then, days later, Jennifer Lopez announced the cancellation of her This Is Me…Live tour , saying she was taking time off to be with her family and friends.

The canceled tour phenomenon is not new; over the last few years, major music players have either canceled shows or rescheduled, from Aerosmith and Madonna to Bruce Springsteen , Heart and the Jonas Brothers .

When a show is canceled, artists and their promoters (including industry titans like Live Nation Entertainment and AEG Presents) will often tell fans that the money they spent on their ticket will automatically be refunded — but what happens to the rest of the money?

According to Paul Bassman, managing director at Higginbotham Insurance, artists and their teams often purchase cancellation insurance policies ahead of major tours to protect the artist from financial harm should the tour be canceled.

These policies are generally deemed "all risk" policies, meaning they cover cancellations for just about any reason, other than what is expressly excluded.

“Generally speaking, it’s cancellations that are not within your control that are covered,” he explains to PEOPLE. “Personal reasons would not typically be a covered cause of loss, unless that personal reason was the sickness or illness or death of a close family member that was either named on the policy or included in what’s called a family extension endorsement.”

Medical reasons and family emergencies are typically covered — but canceling a show due to low ticket sales is not. Still, when it comes to concerts, insurance will cover typically between 75 and 80% of the guaranteed fee that the promoter was paying the artist.

“They typically limit the amount that you’re able to cover under their policy so the artist is not putting themselves in a better position than they would’ve been otherwise,” he says. “They ensure a percentage of the guarantees for sickness, illness, death, God forbid, or whatever reason that wouldn’t be excluded under the policy. The insurance proceeds are what pays for the dancers, the production and the buses that you’ve already leased out, the planes you’ve already rented, or whatever it may be. That all comes out of that pot of money that’s given to you by the insurance carriers in a covered claim.”

When a claim isn't covered by insurance, the losses don't necessarily come out of the artists' pocket 100%. Though contracts differ, Live Nation or another promoter would typically be the one to eat some costs — but things vary.

“For the most part, if the show is canceled, then the promoter and artist go their separate ways and cover your own expenses,” he says. “There could be a provision in there that says if it’s canceled within 30 days of the show, then you have to cover our expenses. But it’s all just depending on the agreement with the promoter.”

Sometimes, Bassman says, promoters will cut their losses if a show is not selling well, opting to take a kill fee in order to save money in the long run.

“If I had $50 million in guarantees out on an artist and the tour is selling miserably and I could get out of it for $10 to $15 million, yeah, I think that’s a good idea,” he says. “It’s going to be painful, but it’s better than $50 [million].”

Bassman, who says a “huge part” of his business is festival and tour cancellation insurance, says in his personal experience, he’s seen cancellations with losses of “tens of millions” of dollars. He cites blues musician Joe Bonamassa as another example. Bonamassa’s 2020 tour was canceled because of COVID, and because Bassman had the exclusion for “communicable disease” removed from his contract, Bonamassa received $4.4 million in insurance money from the canceled tour, a sum based on what his estimated revenue was going to be.

Though it may be a pain for a venue to deal with a last-minute cancellation, it’s not always the end of the world. Sometimes the venue and the promoter agree to a partnership, where they’ll each take the loss and the gain equally, and other times, the promoter will simply rent the space for a flat, non-refundable fee.

“[Sometimes] the venue’s like, ‘You’re paying us $100,000, $200,000 or whatever the rental fee is, you’re paying us this much no matter what, non-refundable.’ [Upon cancellation] the venue might just be like, ‘Eh, we’re dark tonight. Big deal. We got paid,’” says Bassman.

Still, the venue would lose ancillaries, like parking and concessions. A Wall Street Journal report from October estimated that a sudden cancellation could cost an arena an estimated $500,000 in revenue, while a canceled stadium show could cost $1 million or more.

As for how it’s decided where an artist will play on tour, whether it be small theaters or larger arenas, that’s a collaboration between the artist’s manager, booking agent and promoter.

“They collectively decide what size room they’re going to play, what the ticket price is going to be, and where it’s going to play and all that,” he says. “It’s like throwing a dart — sometimes you get it right, sometimes you get it wrong.”

Jennifer Lopez Cancels Summer Tour

The singer and actress said she was “heartsick and devastated” about the decision, which comes on the heels of a hit Netflix movie and persistent rumors about her marriage.

Jennifer Lopez stands in a white, sleeveless dress and looks to her right.

By Maya Salam

Jennifer Lopez announced on Friday that she has canceled her “This Is Me … Live” summer tour. In a message on her website she said she was “heartsick and devastated” about the decision.

“Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary,” she continued, promising her fans that they’d be “together again.”

An accompanying statement from Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, said that “Jennifer is taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends,” and that tickets bought through Ticketmaster would be refunded automatically.

The tour, scheduled for arenas across the country, appeared to be struggling with ticket sales; earlier this year, a handful of dates had been canceled and several shows appeared to have a number of unsold seats, Variety reported in March.

The cancellation comes during a time when Lopez, 54, has been in the spotlight for both her work and her personal life. She currently stars in the sci-fi action thriller “Atlas,” which has been the No. 1 film on Netflix in the United States since its debut last week.

And in February, she released an expansive, ambitious project, which she had poured $20 million of her own money into. It included a studio album, “ This Is Me … Now ”; an accompanying musical film, “ This Is Me … Now: A Love Story ”; and a making-of documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” which stars her husband, the actor and director Ben Affleck, 51. The pair also appeared together in an ad for Dunkin’ Donuts that debuted during this year’s Super Bowl.

Despite the recent collaborations, rumors have been swirling for weeks that their marriage is in trouble , with tabloids offering reports almost daily on the state of their union. Lopez and Affleck were famously minted as “Bennifer” when they dated from about 2002 to 2004, a period that included a brief engagement. They reunited in 2021 and married in July 2022.

A representative for Lopez did not immediately respond on Friday to questions about the tour cancellation or the reports about her marriage to Affleck.

Wilson also shared the news of Heart’s canceled European tour dates on her personal Instagram account.

Jennifer Lopez Variety Cover Story

Jennifer Lopez  has canceled her ‘ This Is Me… Live’ summer tour to spend more time with her family and is “heartsick” over the decision, the singer announced to fans in her newsletter Friday.

The news does not come as a total surprise, as the tour has been beset with reports of poor ticket sales and many unsold seats on ticketing websites.

Various media reports said that the need for family time was necessary amid reports that she and husband Ben Affleck are splitting; reps for the singer did not comment on the reports.

Sources close to Lopez insisted that the tour was not being canceled due to poor ticket sales, despite the reports and seating charts, and pointed to strong sales in such markets as Newark, Orlando, Miami, Chicago, Anaheim and Toronto. However, seating charts for multiple other dates showed very poor sales.

Lopez initially announced the trek in February to coincide with the release of her latest album “This Is Me… Now” and its accompanying two films, which celebrated her reunion with Affleck. But she quietly canceled some of its dates last month in cities like Cleveland and Nashville, likely due to poor sales. The rebrand suggested a pivot from a tour focusing on the new album’s songs to one spanning her discography, a move that was presumably intended to entice listeners who didn’t connect with her latest material.

Procol Harum guitarist Robin Trower has canceled his tour in the United States due to ongoing health issues.

Trower, 79, was set to kick off the tour on Sept. 14 for a month and stop in the cities of Nashville, Chicago, Buffalo and Boston.

“It is with great regret that I must inform you that I will be unable to fulfill the upcoming tour of the USA in September/October,” he wrote in a statement . “I have struggled with health issues for some time now. Following my latest stay in hospital a few weeks ago, my doctor advised me that the only possible way for an effective long-term solution is to undertake a major operation as soon as possible.

“I am currently awaiting confirmation of that date. I have also been advised that the recovery time to 100% full fitness could take a while,” the statement continued. “This makes committing to a fixed touring period in the near future impossible. I have struggled with this decision but realize I cannot continue touring at this time. I know that you will be as disappointed as I am, but I am very hopeful that this procedure will give me a new lease of life and I can return to doing what I love the most- playing live ASAP. I look forward to catching up with you all as soon as I am able.”

Trower’s career began with Procol Harum in 1967. His solo album, 1974′s “Bridge of Sighs,” recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. He has released more than two dozen albums over the last 50 years with his latest one, “Joyful Sky,” arriving last year.
