The All-New Pinarello Dogma F

The All-New Pinarello Dogma F

Written by Isaac Boyden, on June 21, 2024

There are very few bikes quite as recognizable as the Pinarello Dogma. As the people at Pinarello put it, there are very few bikes you can have unpainted and still tell it is a Pinarello from a distance. No other bikes have the signature asymmetrical shaped rear triangle and fork, the curve in the top tube, or the wave in the Onda fork.

Such a recognizable design comes from one of the most prominent racing histories of any bike in the industry. Raced under some of the most successful teams in road race history, dozens of Tour De France stage wins and multiple GC wins.

The all-new 2025 Pinarello Dogma F holds on to its racing lineage, with an aim to make it even faster, which is hard for a bike as successful as it already is.

The New Pinarello Dogma F

In the past, new generations of Dogma have looked more different, but this generation of Dogma is more about refinement rather than an overhaul. It is a little difficult when looking at the frame to tell what is different, but Pinarello definitely did their work to make sure this bike strives toward perfection. The goal of the Dogma is a bike for Would Tour racers that can climb efficiently, descend with confidence, and be aero all the same. Pinarello strives to meet those needs.

For all of the 2022 Tour De France, Pinarello measured every statistic they could on leader Geraint Thomas, measuring vibration, aerodynamics, stiffness, and every energy split you can think of was measured across 20 stages total. All of this data was used to make the Dogma F 2025, the best possible bike.

Woman riding 2025 Pinarello Dogma F.

One of the biggest things about this bike was its aerodynamics. Throughout the Tour, Pinarello found that every 0.2% increase in aerodynamic efficiency on the frame was the same thing as saving 175g of weight off the frame. This led Pinarello to hunt for aerodynamic benefits wherever they could. The frame was run through CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and tested for every frame line, to make it as aero as possible while still retaining the same overall shape, look, and weight of the previous Dogma.

Pinarello Dogma F side profile.

Speaking of weight, the new Dogma frame has also changed its carbon layup to lose some weight. Long-time Pinarello fans might remember the Pinarello Dogma F8, in the team edition frame called X-Light for some weight loss off the frame. That carbon layup is now being used in the stock Dogma frame for this model year. This layup is called M40X. It takes over 100g off the frame and makes the overall bike stiffer, especially in the BB.

Along with the new headtube shape being thinned, the Dogma requires a new headset that is slimmer to match the shape. This new headset matches to a new Most Talon bar, called the Most Talon “Fast” bar. The new handlebar flares to match the trend of bars and brake levers being flared out for racing. The new bar now cables the hoses in front of the bar, not on the sides so it will not be compatible with the previous Talon set up.

All The Pinarello Colors And Extras

All of the new Dogma’s are still handpainted in Italy, with two launch-specific colorways. They have a red metallic fade to black, and a satin metallic silver/blue color. The red/black will also be the color raced at the 2024 Olympics under all Pinarello riders. There will also be some of the previous year's colorways returning on the new frame as well.

Along with the new bike, Pinarello has also released a clothing line, aimed at performance. Made in Italy by Q36.5, the new clothing has two cuts, a race fit and a core fit. The race cut is called Dogma as well to signify it is the top of the line and is meant to be most aerodynamic at 35-70 kph. (Claimed).

Is Pinarello’s new Dogma F the next Tour de France winning bike? (And yes, you can still have rim brakes)

Dogma drops the numbers, sheds weight and gets faster

Roberto Bragotto / Pinarello

Matthew Loveridge

Italian bike maker Pinarello has announced the latest generation of its flagship Dogma race bike, calling it the Dogma F.

It’s an all-new superbike available in both disc and rim brake options, both boasting a long list of refinements over the previous Dogma F12.

Claimed to be lighter, stiffer, and more aerodynamic, the Dogma F will be the bike of choice for Ineos Grenadiers, and we’re expecting it to appear at the 2021 Tour de France .

The Dogma F will retail at £5,400 for a frameset, £11,000 for a complete bike with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 , and £12,000 / $14,500 for one with SRAM Red eTap AXS . Other international pricing is to be confirmed.

Pinarello says it dropped the numerical naming system because “a Pinarello Dogma is an icon, it goes beyond a number or superficial classifications”. The idea seems to be to introduce a kind of timelessness to the platform.

Pinarello doesn’t differentiate between aero and lightweight for its Tour de France bikes and so, like the Venge-killing Specialized Tarmac SL 7 , the Dogma F is intended to be the best possible race bike for all riders.

Pinarello Dogma F – key details at a glance

  • All new full-carbon frameset designed to be stiffer, lighter and more aero than Dogma F12
  • Available in rim and disc brake versions
  • Disc frame kit (frame, fork, seatpost, cockpit) claimed to save 256g over Dogma F12
  • Accepts electronic groupsets only
  • Clearance for 28mm tyres
  • Frameset priced at £5,400
  • Complete bikes from £11,000
  • Available from December 2021

Pinarello Dogma F: stiffer, lighter and more aero

At a glance, you could be forgiven for thinking the bike has barely changed.

The overall look is very similar to that of the F12, with the signature Onda (wave) fork and very muscular curves. However, the Dogma F is entirely new.

Team Ineos Grenadiers training before the 2021 Tour de France

Like previous Dogmas, its back end is distinctly asymmetrical to match asymmetrical pedalling forces, and Pinarello says the new bike is 12 per cent stiffer at the bottom bracket .

This is the bike we spotted under Richard Carapaz at the Tour de Suisse a couple of weeks back and, at the time, we noted a new down tube design, as well as tweaked seatstays.

Riding the Dogma F up a snowy mountain

The Dogma F is a fully integrated design with cables almost entirely hidden from view and a one-piece proprietary cockpit that sits on an exceptionally beefy, straight 1.5in fork steerer (the majority of modern road bike fork steerers are tapered from 1 ½in to 1 ⅛in).

Where previously the top of the down tube stepped down twice, the new version steps down and back up again.

New down tube that steps down and then up again

At the back end, the seatstays extend away from the seat tube before heading towards the rear axle , rather than taking a direct line.

This is all to do with the aerodynamic development Pinarello has carried out and the brand says that while the F12 was already pretty darned aero, the F makes further savings, with the disc and rim brake models being 4.8 per cent and 3.2 per cent “more aero” than their respective predecessors.

Newly shaped seat stays

For the Dogma F Disc, this translates to a 1.3-watt saving at 40km/h and a 2.6-watt saving at 50km/h.

While the press materials for the new bike are keen to stress that “on the road, it’s responsiveness and comfort that matter more than shaving off a few grams”, weight savings get a lot of attention.

Pinarello says the Dogma F Disc’s frame kit (frame, fork, seatpost, cockpit) is 265g lighter in total, with key savings at the seatpost, headset, fork.

Seat clamp

The brand quotes weight reductions of 27g for the seat tube and 25g for the headset , along with a 35g saving thanks to a new SLM (Selective Laser Melting, i.e. 3D printed) titanium seat clamp, and 40g for the new Most Talon Ultrafast cockpit that replaces the previous Talon Ultra.

The new rim brake fork is said to be 58g lighter than previously, while on the disc model a new thru-axle design saves 20g.

There is a slight question mark over the weight of the frame itself. While there’s a weight savings theme to the whole launch, the claimed figures of 865g for an unpainted 53cm Dogma F Disc and 860g for the rim brake version are actually slightly higher than the figures of 840g and 820g Pinarello published with the release of the Dogma F12 back in 2019.

We’ve asked for clarification, but it appears possible that while the complete package has got lighter, the frame itself has gained a tiny bit of weight in exchange for aero gains – not necessarily a bad thing when aero almost invariably trumps weight for the purposes of racers.

In any case, Pinarello says a 53cm disc frameset built up with SRAM Red eTap AXS and DT Swiss ARC 1400 wheels will weigh 6.9kg without pedals, while one with Dura-Ace R9100 will be 6.8kg.

Adding pedals will likely push those over the 7kg mark, but that’s not unusual for a bike with significant aero features and discs. Rim brake models will apparently dip under the 6.8kg UCI minimum weight with ease.

On a practical note, Pinarello hasn't gone big with tyre clearances, and they're officially limited to 28mm for both rim and disc brake variants. The brand has also stuck – dogmatically, one might say – with an Italian threaded bottom bracket , presumably for reasons of tradition.

No “t-shirt” sizing

Pinarello says “we will never use t-shirt sizes to measure our bikes”, offering the Dogma in 11 different sizes from 43cm to 62cm.

That’s pretty unusual in the age of moulded carbon and it’s something to be applauded – moulds are expensive, so there’s a strong incentive for manufacturers to try and cover a range of rider heights with fewer sizes.

The Dogma F’s numbers are pretty standard for racy road bike geometry – a nominal 54cm frameset has 385mm of reach and 551mm of stack, while the angles are suitably steep and racy.

While Pinarello is generous with its frame sizes, riders are limited to a choice of 16 different variants of the Most Talon Ultrafast cockpit.

That might sound like plenty but, as it’s a one-piece design, that covers all available stem lengths and bar widths. Stems range from 90mm to 140mm, while bar widths cover 420mm to 460mm.

Given how focussed Pinarello is on aerodynamics, we were a little surprised not to see narrower bar options on offer – going narrower is one of the easiest aerodynamic gains you can make on a road bike.

However, Pinarello apparently measures it's bars outside-to-outside, rather than the more common centre-to-centre, so a 420mm bar will measure up more like a conventional 380mm-wide one, which is reasonably narrow.

Geraint Thomas and Luke Rowe riding Pinarello Dogma F

These details are worth paying attention to – on a more everyday bike, you could simply look to the aftermarket for alternatives if the stock option doesn't work for you, but the Dogma F’s non-standard 1.5in steerer means that’s not a simple option.

It will be interesting to see if any Ineos riders are given options not offered to the buying public.

We've spotted Luke Rowe riding the new Dogma F on a training ride ahead of the Tour de France and he appears to be using a standard handlebar. Rowe has typically used an alloy, classic bend on the old Dogma F12, so it's likely Pinarello may be offering the option for Ineos riders once again.

Colour options and availability

Pinarello Dogma F Eruption Red

At launch, the Dogma F will be available in three paintjobs called Plutonium Flash, Eruption Red and Black on Black.

Availability is from December this year, with Pinarello’s custom MyWay paint options to follow later.

Is this the next Tour-winning bike?

Is this the next Tour de France winning bike? With Ineos Grenadiers’ record, that’s entirely possible.

Whatever you think of the Dogma F, it’s certainly not boring – Pinarellos are arguably the most distinctive WorldTour bikes in the pro peloton.

We’d love to hear what you think of the new Dogma F, so let us know your thoughts in the comments.

2023 Pinarello Dogma F vs Prince vs Paris

pinarello dogma tour de france 2023

Unlike many other bike brands , Pinarello doesn’t categorize its race bikes as aero or lightweight. The Dogma is a do-it-all bike ridden by the pros on all terrains.

The difference lies in how the bikes are specced.

The Dogma F , followed by the Dogma F12 is the top of the line bike and is specced with only the best components (eg: electronic shifting). Next in line is the Prince, which is specced with mid-tiered components (eg: Shimano Ultegra).

Sitting at the bottom are the Paris and GAN endurance bikes specced with Shimano 105.

Pinarello Dogma F

Pinarello Dogma F Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 (R9200)

The Pinarello Dogma F was released just days before the 2021 Tour de France. It’s Pinarello’s fastest and lightest performance road bike to date. It’s the bike that Ineos-Grenadiers will race on in July.

The main improvement in the Pinarello Dogma F is weight savings. By reducing weight in the cockpit, fork, headset, seat tube, and seat clamp, the Dogma F is 265g lighter than the Dogma F12 in the same configuration for a size 53. Pinarello also redesigned the (although subtle) fork, downtube, and seat stays. Combining these allows air to flow with less interruption, improving aerodynamics by 4.8% over the Dogma F12.

The Pinarello Dogma F is available in 11 frame sizes with 16 handlebar reach/widths and two seat post setback choices. This gives the cyclist 352 sizing options to get the ideal fit. As the top-of-the-line bike, the Pinarello Dogma F is only available with the best electronic shifting groupsets from Shimano , SRAM , or Campagnolo.

Pinarello Prince

Pinarello Prince

The Pinarello Prince was a top-of-the-line race bike until the first Dogma 60.1. Since then, the Pinarello Prince sits in the mid-range of the Pinarello family.

At first glance, the Prince looks very similar to the Pinarello F12 in the frame shape. It inherits many of the Pinarello F12’s features, such as the downtube shape and total cable integration design. The Pinarello Prince has nine frame sizes with a slightly more relaxed geometry . This puts the rider in a more upright and less aggressive position on the bike.

The Pinarello Prince is specced with mid-range Shimano groupsets with either Shimano Ultegra Di2 or SRAM Force eTap AXS electronic shifting groupsets and in both rim and disc brake versions.

Pinarello Paris

Pinarello Paris

The Pinarello Paris is a pure endurance bike designed with comfort and long miles in mind. Compared to the more racy Dogma, the Paris has a higher stack and longer reach , putting the rider in a much more comfortable position to last the distance.

The frame uses the less stiff, more forgiving TorayCa T600 UD carbon and is built with Shimano 105 R7000 components. Completing the build are Pinarello’s in-house components brands, the MOST Ultrafast 40 wheels, and Pirelli’s latest all-rounder tires, the P7.

Pinarello bikes FAQ

How long is Pinarello’s warranty?

Pinarello bikes come with a two-year warranty on the frame and fork if purchased from authorized Pinarello resellers. The warranty can be extended up to five years if the bike is registered within 30 days with Pinarello.

More about Pinarello’s warranty policy .

Are there fake Pinarello frames?

Unfortunately yes. There are a lot of Pinarello fakes out there. Some red flags include buying from dodgy e-commerce or auction sites that sell or describe the bikes as OEM or direct from the factory .

Pinarello doesn’t sell its frames direct to consumers. To be sure, purchase one from your local authorized Pinarello dealer .

How is Pinarello’s frame sizing different from the other brands?

Pinarello quotes its frame sizes on the seat tube length (CC); measured from the bottom bracket to the centerline of the top tube. The best comparison of Pinarello’s sizing against other brands is to use the reach and stack numbers.

Does Pinarello have a women-specific bike range?

Pinarello doesn’t have women-specific bikes. Their bikes are available in a very wide range of sizes that will cater to more riders’ heights compared to other brands. If you’re after a smaller frame size (eg: XXS or XXXS), the Pinarello Dogma F12 has frame sizes for riders below 5’ 3” (160cm).

Which professional cycling team does Pinarello sponsors?

pinarello dogma tour de france 2023

Pinarello has won the most Grand Tours among all bike brands in the past decade with Ineos-Grenadiers (formerly Team Sky). Since 2012, Pinarello bikes won 7 Tour de France, 3 Giro d’Italia, and 2 Vuelta Espana starting with Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome, Geraint Thomas, Egan Bernal, and Tao Geoghegan Hart.

The wins started with Pinarello Dogma 65.1, followed by Pinarello Dogma F8, F10, and F12. The latest version is the Pinarello Dogma F, ridden by Ineos-Grenadiers.

The team race on the Look 795 Blade frameset module which Victor Lafay rode to a stage win last year. They also rolled out a cool Mondrian-inspired Tour paint job last year so keep your eyes open for something special this year.

Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale

Valentin Retailleau racing for Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team

  • Bikes : Van Rysel RCR / XCR time trial bike

The team has a new equipment package for 2024, including the Van Rysel RCR frame, owned by parent company Decathlon, which caused a stir in the media for being one of the most affordable bikes to have graced the WorldTour peloton in years. We have it on good authority the team may just have one of the fastest kit packages around.

The team uses the Van Rysel FCR — one of the best aero helmets — which finished in the top five in our recent aero helmet wind tunnel test .

EF Education-EasyPost

Team EF Education - EasyPost riders

  • Bikes : Cannondale SuperSix Evo LAB 71, SystemSix, SuperSlice (TT)
  • Wheels : Vision
  • Clothing : Rapha

EF Education-EasyPost race on the Cannondale SuperSix Evo LAB 71 frame and is famous for limited edition pain jobs or collaborations in big races. Their team edition frame also just became available to buy for the public.

The team also have the option to race on the more aero SystemSix frame, but riders seem to stick to the SuperSix. That is with the exception of aero-obsessed Irish rider Ben Healy. The team also have access to the fastest helmet around, the new POC Procen Air

Elsewhere, EF are another Shimano team, using Dura-Ace equipment, though they buy their own parts as they're not directly sponsored, and they use FSA power meter chainsets.

Groupama-FDJ

Team Groupama - FDJ race the Criterium du Dauphine

  • Bikes : Wilier Zero SLR, Wilier Filante SLR, Wilier Supersonica SLR TT
  • Wheels : Shimano C35, C50, C60
  • Tyres: Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR / Competition tubular

Groupama-FDJ switched to Wilier bikes for the 2024 season and rolled out a fairly classy, predominantly white and blue paint job. The team have the same models available to them as the Astana squad, including the new hyper-expensive Supersonica SLR TT time trial bike and an unreleased climbing bike.

Over the past few years, we have seen a mix of Continental GP5000 tubeless and Competition tubular (glued-on) tyres being used by the team. We'll be keeping an eye on whether the team fully transitions to tubeless at the Tour.

Ineos Grenadiers

Ineos Grenadiers race the Criterium du Dauphine

  • Bikes : Pinarello Dogma F, Bolide (TT)
  • Groupset : Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 12 Speed
  • Wheels : Shimano (Princeton Carbonworks / Tactic and Aerocoach will be present as non-sponsored additions)
  • Tyres: Continental GP5000 S TR
  • Clothing : Gobik
  • Finishing Kit : MOST

Pinarello, Ineos-Grenadiers' long-term bike sponsor, just launched a new version of the Dogma F ahead of the Tour, so expect to see the team riding the brand-new bikes there.

The team's equipment package which is mostly from Shimano (groupsets and wheels) remains unchanged. But Ineos Grenadiers have been known to change to aftermarket, special wheels for key stages of the race or for time trials, such as the £1000 Tactic hubs , we spotted them using last year.

Intermarché - Wanty

Biniam Girmay racing on a Cube

  • Bikes : Cube Litening C:68X, Aerium C:68 (TT)
  • Wheels : Newmen
  • Tyres: Continental GP5000 S TR

  • Finishing Kit : Cube
  • Computers : Bryton

Intermarché - Wanty has stuck to a fairly standard - even unexciting dare we say it -equipment setup for the last few years.

The team use Cube Litening road frames with Shimano Dura-Ace groupsets and Newmen wheels. Their bright green handlebar tape and silver wheel decals always stand out. Team leader Biniam Girmay will be looking to win a stage on his Cube bike.

Alpecin-Deceuninck

WorldTour 2024 kit

  • Bikes : Canyon Aeroad CFR / Ultimate CFR / Speedmax (TT)
  • Wheels : Shimano
  • Tyres: Vittoria Corsa Pro
  • Clothing : Kalas
  • Finishing Kit : Canyon / Selle Italia
  • Computers : Wahoo

Alpecin-Deceuninck's equipment package hasn't changed for a long time and the team has enjoyed a lot of success aboard their Canyon Aeroad bikes. The team also technically has the Canyon Ultimate all-rounder to use alongside the aero model, but we hardly ever see any team riders using it.

Let's not forget team sprinter Jasper Philipsen, who last year raced a custom green Aeroad as a result of leading the green jersey sprints competition.

We have seen glimpses of a special custom-painted frame for World Champion Van der Poel and rumours are circulating of a new Canyon Aeroad which we will be keeping an eye out for at the Tour.

Visma-Lease a Bike

Visma Lease a Bike's Renaissance themed Cervelo S5

  • Bikes : Cervélo S5, R5, Caledonia, P5 (TT)
  • Wheels : Reserve
  • Tyres: Vittoria Corsa Pro
  • Clothing : Agu
  • Finishing Kit : Cervelo / FSA

Visma-Lease a Bike will be aiming to defend defending champion Jonas Vingegaard's yellow jersey from last year using their Cervélo bikes.

The team used custom painted bikes last year, but stuck to the yellow and black theme. This year, however, they've changed their colourway entirely, to a dark blue palette that pays tribute to the Renaissance .

The team has an aero and lightweight all-rounder to use. The S5 is the team's aero model and R5 is the climbing bike. The team also has the more comfortable Caledonia as well as the Soloist at their disposal but we don't expect to see these bikes as much. For the time trials, it will be the aero P5.

The team has also switched to the new SRAM Red AXS groupset and Vingegaard was reportedly testing the new carbon cranks at last year's Tour.

Visma are famed for leaving no stone unturned regarding equipment and we expect them to use 1x drivetrain systems on at least one stage as well as plenty of other tech hacks and optimisations.

Arkéa B&B Hotels

Arkea B&B Hotels riders

  • Bikes : Bianchi Oltre RC, Specialissima, Aquila (TT)
  • Groupset : Shimano Dura-Ace Di2
  • Wheels : Vision Metron - 45 and 60
  • Tyres: Vittoria Corsa Pro
  • Clothing : Ekoi
  • Finishing Kit : Reparto course by Vision / FSA

Arkéa - B&B Hotels have been riding Bianchi bikes for two years and have two road models to choose from: the Oltre RC aero bike, and lightweight Specialissima. There's also the Aquila TT for time trials.

The Oltre RC aero bike has not been without controversy during its lifespan after mechanical issues resulting in snapped handlebars and issues at Paris-Roubaix . Bianchi responded to some of the allegations made in a statement at the time.

The Tour de France is a harsh test and every team arrives with its equipment in perfect order and ready for a hard three weeks.

A Movistar rider racing a canyon bike

  • Bikes : Canyon Aeroad CFR, Ultimate CFR, Speedmax CFR (TT)
  • Wheels : Zipp - various options
  • Clothing : Gobik / BORN
  • Finishing Kit : Canyon

Movistar are another team, like Ineos Grenadiers, who have been with the same bike supplier for a long time, and 2024 marks the 11th year of the partnership.

The Spanish squad has more climbers than Alpecin-Deceuninck, so you see a lot more of the Canyon Ultimate model alongside the Aeroad.

The team also have the new SRAM Red AXS groupset to use this summer after its release in May.

Soudal-QuickStep

Remco Evenepoel during a time trial

  • Wheels : Roval - various options
  • Clothing : Castelli

Soudal-QuickStep has ridden Specialized bikes for a long time now and rides the Tarmac SL8 model in the top-tier S-Works version, which was released at the Glasgow World Championships last year.

The team or 'Wolfpack' as they like to be known, will be built around Remco Evenepoel's tilt at the overall classification this year. The Belgian, who is also the World Time Trial Champion, has a custom-painted rainbow Shiv TT bike to use.

Elsewhere the team uses Dura-Ace groupsets from Shimano, along with Roval finishing kit by Specialized. We also expect to see Roval's limited edition Rapide CLX II Team wheels being used during the race.

Team Jayco-AlUla

Luke Plapp racing on a Giant bike

  • Bikes : Propel Advanced SL, TCR Advanced SL, Trinity (TT)
  • Wheels : Cadex
  • Saddles : Cadex
  • Finishing Kit : Giant

Team Jayco Al-Ula races on Giant bikes, with Shimano Dura-Ace groupsets and wheels from Cadex, a subsidiary brand of Giant.

The team can choose between the aero-focused Propel Advanced model or the longstanding all-rounder the TCR Advanced SL which received an update earlier this year.

The team's eye-catching paint jobs have drawn attention this year and look great out on the road. Look out for Australian Champion Luke Plapp's custom kit and bike which really stand out.

Team DSM - Firmenich PostNL

Fabio Jakobsen racing for DSM

  • Bikes : Scott Addict RC, Foil RC, Plasma (TT)
  • Wheels : Shimano C36, C50, C60
  • Tyres: Vittroria Corsa Pro
  • Clothing : Nalini
  • Saddles : Syncros
  • Finishing Kit : Syncros

Team DSM - Firmenich PostNL race on Scott bikes, and the lightweight Addict model has been around for over fifteen years in its various guises. Like several other teams, they can also choose to race on an aero-focused model. In this case, that is the Foil RC, a bike that first broke cover at the 2022 Tour, and which team sprinter Fabio Jakobsen will likely choose to ride.

Shimano Dura-Ace takes care of the groupset and wheel package, whilst Syncros provide the integrated handlebars.

Mads Pederson racing on a new Trek bike

  • Bikes : Trek Madone, Emonda, Domane, Speed Concept (TT)
  • Wheels : Bontrager
  • Tyres:  Pirelli P Zero
  • Clothing : Santini
  • Saddles : Bontrager
  • Finishing Kit : Bontrager

Lidl-Trek is a team to watch this year on the equipment front, there are plenty of techy changes to spot this summer.

The team has been spotted using a brand new frame that looks like a more lightweight, all-rounder compared to the team's Trek Madone model. We expect to see more of this at the race.

The team also switched to the new SRAM Red AXS groupset this year, and will also race on the brand-new Pirelli P Zero tyres that launched recently.

Trek released a series of special custom bikes for last year's Tour, Mads Pederson's in particular caused quite the sir .

UAE Team Emirates

Adam Yates on a Colnago time trial bike

  • Bikes : Colnago V4Rs, TT1 (TT)
  • Groupset : Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 / Carbon-Ti chainrings and rotors
  • Wheels : Enve
  • Tyres: Continental GP5000 S TR
  • Finishing Kit : Colnago

Fresh from victory at the Giro d'Italia , Tadej Pogačar looks to be in unstoppable form this year. He will aim to win his third Tour this year using his Colnago V4Rs which he uses for all stages. As well as the TT1 time trial model pictured above.

UAE Team Emirates uses Dura-Ace groupsets and Enve wheels and handlebars. Notably, the team have used exotic Carbon Ti carbon chainrings and disc rotors to save even more weight.

We have heard the team have made some extra tweaks to their bikes ahead of the Tour to make them even lighter so will be keeping our eyes peeled for any extra modifications.

Lotto-Dstny

Arnaud De Lie winning at Wallonie

  • Bikes : Orbea Orca / Orca Aero / Ordu TT bike
  • Wheels : Zipp / Oquo
  • Clothing : Vermarc / Ekoi / Defeet
  • Saddles : Selle Italia
  • Finishing Kit : Orbea

Lotto-Dstny is a non-WorldTour team who have secured a place at this year's race. The team races on Spanish Orbea bikes and can choose between the Orca and Orca Aero models. They also use the Ordu time trial bike against the clock.

The team use Shimano Dura-Ace groupsets along with Zipp wheels and Vittoria tyres. Controversy reigned earlier in the year after a spate of wheel/tyre compatibility issues for the team.

The team will be gunning for victory and supporting star rider Arnaud De Lie in his quest for a stage win.

Israel-Premier Tech

Chris Froome racing his Factor TT bike

  • Bikes : Factor Ostro / O2 VAM / Hanzo TT Bike
  • Groupset: Shimano Dura-Ace Di2
  • Wheels : Black Inc.
  • Clothing: Ekoi
  • Finishing Kit : Black Inc.
  • Computers : Garmin

Israel-Premier Tech uses Factor bikes and can choose between two road models, the aero Ostro and the lightweight O2 Vam . They race on the Hanzo model for time trials.

The team's wheels and integrated handlebars and stems are from Black Inc, a subsidiary brand of Factor. You can also read our exclusive in-depth interview with Factor founder Rob Gitelis for insight into the bike industry and carbon frame construction.

Team TotalEnergies

Jason Tesson of France and Geoffrey Soupe racing

  • Bikes : Enve Melee / Specialized S-Works Shiv TT
  • Groupset : Shimano Dura-Ace Di2
  • Wheels : Enve
  • Tyres: Continental GP5000 S TR
  • Clothing : Sportful
  • Saddles : Selle Italia
  • Finishing Kit : Enve
  • Computers : Garmin

Total Energies switched from Specialized to Enve bikes after the departure of Specialized-sponsored star rider Peter Sagan last year.

The squad now uses Enve Melee frames, wheels and handlebars with Shimano Dura-Ace groupsets and Continental tubeless tyres.

Notably, Enve doesn't currently have a time trial bike in its range so the team uses blacked-out Specialized Shiv time trial bikes against the clock.

Uno-X Mobility

Two Uno-X riders racing racing

  • Bikes : Dare VSRu / TSRf time trial bike / Velocity Ace Prototype
  • Wheels : Garmin
  • Tyres: Schwalbe Pro One
  • Clothing : Bioracer
  • Saddles : Prologo
  • Finishing Kit : Dare

Uno-X Mobility races on Dare bikes that are some of the most eye-catching in the peloton. The all-black bikes look aggressive standing still, especially the Velocity Ace Prototype we spotted earlier in the year, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for this model again at the Tour, including its very aggressive-looking aero handlebar.

The team uses Shimano Dura-Ace groupsets and DT Swiss carbon fibre wheels - the same wheels that won our wind tunnel wheels test a couple of years ago - with Schwalbe Pro One tubeless tyres, the only team in the race using the German tyre brand.

The team bikes are usually also fitted with the new CeramicSpeed OSPW for an added drivetrain gain.

The Tour is the sport of cycling's biggest shop window, it's a great opportunity for marketing, showing products off and gaining attention.

Brand new bikes tend to get tested in advance of the Tour to ensure riders are happy and we assume to just make sure everything is ready. That being said, you still see new bikes roll out at the Tour, and we'll be sure to keep an eye out for anything new.

We may see new parts, components and kit appear during the Tour. Everything from optimised new clothing to new sunglasses and cycling shoes as well as bike components. We will be covering everything we spot in detail.

Sometimes things are so secret or closely guarded we don't even know they are being used. For example, the new SRAM Red AXS crank arms that Jonas Vingegaard was using this time last year.

There are trends in equipment that inform what we think we might see, and we have written about them here in our tech predictions for the Tour de France

Pinarello have finally released its full-suspension race bike and it’s as aggressive and uncompromising as the athletes it’s solely designed for. Did our ultra-experienced test editor Guy Kesteven get high on the pure speed of the Dogma XC or was he just glad to survive in one piece?

Officially the fastest XCO race bike in the world

Super stiff and efficient power delivery

Fantastically focused climbing weapon

Premium race spec

Comfortable enough for marathon epics

Road bike style ride position is sketchy on descents

Geometry is nervous in tech sections

Fox shock is under leveraged and over progressive

Messy cockpit controls

MBR

Designed with the help of Olympic Champion Tom Pidcock, and ridden to victory in last summer’s World Championship XCO event in Glentress, you can’t deny the new Pinarello Dogma XC is officially the fastest cross-country bike in the world. And, like its creator, it’s an aggressive, ‘take no prisoners’ race bike that chews you up and spits you out if you’re not on your A-game. So if you’ve come expecting a fun, trail-ready ride like some of the best cross-country bikes on the market, you’re fat outta luck. Pinarello Dogma XC need to know World Championship winning XCO race bike Tom Pidcock’s personal geometry 2kg frame and shock, builds into a 10.4kg bike Super-stiff power transfer Premium race components Super-progressive suspension Frame and geometry In terms of time spent, there’s not a lot to unpack about the development of the Dogma XC, as it literally went from a team request from the Ineos Grenadiers to rideable prototype in three months, with Tom winning the World Cup at Nova Meste on the bike’s debut. In terms of a product development cycle, that’s unheard of. Which begs the question, how much of the Dogma’s success can be put down to the talent in the saddle, and how much should be credited to the designers? Something to ponder as you read this. The bikes I rode at the launch were the first medium and large sizes Pinarello had made, as both Tom Pidcock and fellow World Champion, Pauline Ferrand Prevot, ride small-sized frames. Pinarello even said it had barely ridden the development bikes in house, as it didn’t want to dilute the priorities of the athletes who would end up riding them. Bold stuff, but a mantra that’s worked very well for the brand with its multi-race and championship-winning road, cyclo-cross and track bikes, so it’s hard to fault Pinarello’s strategy in that respect. Both Tom and Pauline listed frame stiffness – particularly when standing – as a key performance goal, as both riders have a low cadence, high power pedalling style. That’s the reasoning behind the triangulated bottom bracket and asymmetric chainstays to balance left to right rear end stiffness. That rear end is made in two halves, with no bridges, to keep it super short (425mm). Instead Pinarello locks it together with a massive toothed Hirth joint pivot axle through the centre of the oversized axle. It’s not a svelte solution, and the Dogma XC definitely isn’t the lightest XCO frame around as a result (Pinarello says 1,749g for a small without shock, while the new S-Works Epic 8 frame that I tested recently is the same weight with a shock), but it is seriously stiff under power. Despite bushings in the neatly interlaced alloy upper linkages, the flex-stays move freely with a lively rebound spring. The machined shock mount can be unbolted and moved forwards to fit a 210x50mm damper if 10mm extra travel is required. As standard, the Dogma XC will ship with Pidcock and Prevot’s preferred* 190x45mm set-up, …Continue reading »

pinarello dogma tour de france 2023

The Pinarello Dogma F aims for the podium at this year’s Tour de France. But the brand says it’s perfect for the average cyclist, too — so long as they have a thick wallet.

Pinarello bikes have been the trusted weapon of seven of the last 10 Tour de France winners. Let that sink in for a second. That’s 70%.

In fact, up until 2020, the company had been unbeaten for 5 straight years. (Leave it to the pesky Tadej Pogacar on his equally pesky Colnago steed to snap that streak.)

In hopes of returning to the top spot on the podium in 2021, Pinarello has launched a “super bike” that is designed to carve up every surface of the Tour: the Dogma F .

The Pinarello Dogma F

Pinarello Dogma F

The Dogma F, which will be piloted in this year’s Tour by Team Ineos Grenadiers, is the latest rendition of the Dogma lineup. Compared to the previous F12 model , which comes in rim or disc brake options, the F is 3.2% more aerodynamic in the rim brake model, and 4.8% more aerodynamic in the disc brake model.

The design of the bike follows Pinarello’s asymmetrical design ideology — meaning the drivetrain is only on one side of the bike.

The bottom bracket is 12% stiffer, and the overall weight of the full disc frame kit comes in at 265 grams less — about 11% lighter — than the F12. That weight savings is due in large part to 3D printed titanium components, and a laser focus of the seatpost, headset, fork, and cockpit.

But, here’s the crux of the story: Pinarello says the Dogma F is perfect for every type of rider across every type of terrain — whether its riders are climbing, descending, or railing corners. Pinarello also designed it to fit riders with far more precise specifications than other bikes.

Well, maybe “every rider” is a stretch. Every “well-heeled” rider might be more accurate, with builds coming in close to $15,000.

Dogma F: Fit and Customization

The frame itself comes in 11 sizes. Additionally, Pinarello offers 16 handlebar sizes and two setback seatpost options that combine for 352 unique sizing setups for a tailored fit that is hard to find elsewhere.

It also comes equipped with Pinarello’s Onda fork, which the brand claims provides precise turning, stability, and shock reduction.

Pinarello Dogma F

Cyclists can purchase the bike in a custom setup with a wide array of groupset and wheelset options. Or, cyclists can choose the RED ETAP AXS model, which features the SRAM Red ETAP AXS 12-speed groupset and the Fulcrum Speed 40, 700c wheelset.

The aerospace carbon frame has three color options: Plutonium Flash, Eruption Red, and black on black.

Pinarello Dogma F

“This is the culmination of all of our skill and experience, a masterpiece of engineering that offers advancements in handling, comfort, and aerodynamics all wrapped in a package that can climb, descend, and sprint with equal flair,” Pinarello said. “Whatever the road throws at you, the Dogma F is always the right bike.”

The Bottom Line

Pinarello’s record speaks for itself. You don’t win the Tour de France consistently without a quality bike. Period.

If you’re looking for a beast of a road bike, it’s safe to say the Dogma F won’t let you down. But if you find yourself unsure, you only have one more month to wait until you can see Pinarello put its money where its mouth is. So get your cowbells ready.

New Pinarello product range 2023 – F and X models bring a breath of fresh air to the mid-range segment

pinarello dogma tour de france 2023

Pinarello stand for trophies, medals and records, and are one of the most successful bike brands. They have won the Tour de France as the supplier of the INEOS Grenadier Team seven times alone. This kind of prestige comes at a price, but now Pinarello have introduced the F and X, two new models aimed at the mid-price range. We tested both of them and tell you where the biggest differences lie.

pinarello dogma tour de france 2023

Cicli Pinarello were founded in 1952 in Treviso in northern Italy and have since flourished as a family business. Since then, Fausto Pinarello, who gave the brand its name, has retired from the operational business but as brand guardian looks after the relationship with Team INEOS, and the legacy of the tradition-rich brand. With athletes such as Sir Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas in Team INEOS, formerly SKY, Pinarello bikes have won the biggest races in cycling history. In total, the Tour de France has been won 15 times on a Pinarello bike. But how much did the bikes really contribute to the success?

pinarello dogma tour de france 2023

The prestige of the brand does not only stem from its successes, the association with the luxury goods group LVMH also shows the strategic orientation of the brand. The fact that prestige is also synonymous with expensive is now set to change with the new Pinarello F and X models, making it easier to own one of the award-winning brand’s bikes. With the new Pinarello F aimed at the performance-oriented rider and the X for the long-distance warrior, replacing the Prince and Paris models. We attended the presentation of the new additions in Spain and have brought back our first impressions and a brief comparison.

Pinarello F 9 and X 3 2023 in detail – Who takes the throne?

In the Pinarello portfolio, as well as in terms of victories, DOGMA F is the undisputed king. But now that the Prince and Paris are a thing of the past, there must be successors. The new Pinarello F and Pinarello X models are the chosen ones. But what distinguishes them, what do they do differently? The new Pinarello F that replaces the Prince focuses on sharper edges and more aero surfaces. It also comes with a one-piece cockpit and integrated cable routing. On the models with Shimano Di2 drive, the battery can be removed from the frame from below, which made it possible to slim down the seat post and negate the need to readjust the saddle height after charging.

pinarello dogma tour de france 2023

The frame is offered in two different carbon layups: T900 is the weight-optimised version used on the F 9 and F 7 trim levels. The Pinarello F 5, however, uses T700 carbon layup, which is slightly heavier but cheaper. The maximum tire clearance for the Pinarello F series is 30 mm. In the F 7 Ultegra Di2 variant we tested, the bike costs € 8,850. The new Pinarello X series is not quite as aero-heavy but instead clearly oriented towards endurance and all-road. In this series, all variants are made of the somewhat heavier T600 carbon from Toray, and the bikes dispense with the one-piece cockpit – in favour of individual ergonomics. Nevertheless, you don’t have to compromise on a clean look, as all cables are routed internally here as well. A special feature of the X series are the curved flex stays, designed to increase comfort in the saddle. The maximum tire width of the Pinarello X series is 32 mm, which provides some room to fit more comfortable all-road tires. In the configuration of Pinarello X 3 with SRAM Rival AXS that we tested, the bike costs € 6,070.

pinarello dogma tour de france 2023

What do the Pinarello F and X series have in common?

Both newly introduced models have fully integrated cables and wires as well as a teardrop-shaped head tube and spacers discreetly clamped. To keep the weight of the two models to a minimum, they come with a fully-integrated titanium seat post clamp. Naturally, both bikes continue to rely on the typical Pinarello look with curved tubes and flowing organic shapes, including the in-house developed ONDA fork, which is designed to increase comfort.

Overview of the different Pinarello F & X 2023 models

Since the Pinarello DOGMA has an entry-level price of almost € 15,000, Pinarello is now launching the F, a high-performance bike in the mid-price range starting at just over € 5,000. Even though the F is very close to the DOGMA F in name, the F 9 should not be confused with the medal-winning bike. The new Pinarello F 9 costs € 11,900 and is supposed to come closest to the famous team bike of the most successful cyclists.

Pinarello F 9, 7 and 5 2023

Besides the main difference in the frame, regarding the carbon types – T900 for the two top equipment variants and T700 for the entry-level price variant – the components used also differ, of course. The F 9 and F 7 models are each available with SRAM or Shimano groupset. On the F 9, it doesn’t matter in terms of price whether you prefer to change gears or brake with Shimano DURA-ACE Di2 or SRAM RED AXS, in both cases it will cost you € 11,900. On the F 7, you can opt for the Shimano Ultegra Di2 for € 8,850 or the SRAM Force AXS groupset for € 100 less. The cheapest F 5 model is available with the Shimano 105 Di2 groupset and MOST Ultrafast 40 wheelset for € 6,800 or with the same groupset and Fulcrum Racing 800DB wheelset for € 6,150. The only F model with a mechanical Shimano ULTEGRA groupset also has the lowest price mark at € 5,150.

The Pinarello X 1 with mechanical Shimano 105, and aluminium wheels is the lowest priced bike of the new lineup, retailing at € 3,680. The geometry of the new Pinarello X & F 2023 lineup – Only custom frames fit better

Pinarello claim that a bike can only deliver optimum performance if it fits perfectly. Therefore, the new F and X models are offered in 9 different sizes: the Pinarello F from frame size 42.5 to 58 and the Pinarello X from 43 to 60. Using small increments, the Italians want to offer the right geometry for everyone. Very tall riders, however, reach their limit with 58 as the maximum height. As usual, the stem length, handlebar width and crank length also grow with the frame sizes. In addition, the chainstay length of the new F model increases in 2 mm steps from 406 mm to 408 from frame size 50 and to 410 mm from frame height 54.5, which promises that everyone, no matter how tall, has the same riding experience.

Pinarello F models

The first ride review of the new pinarello f 7 and x 3 2023.

The Pinarello F series is supposed to offer true all-round performance, delivering on climbs as well as on the flat, and of course at high speed. But does it actually deliver? The first time sitting on the bike, it quickly becomes clear that it’s going to be sporty. The Pinarello F 7 positions the rider in an aggressive, deeply bent riding position, designed for those who want real speed – which goes well with a stiff frame and fast handling. Rider input is passed directly to the wheels, both when cornering and on the gas. But be careful, in slow corners the bike becomes a little unstable and has a slight tendency to tip over. You can feel that the racing DNA and experience of the DOGMA have gone into the development of the F. Advanced riders especially will feel at home with the responsive and lively platform.

pinarello dogma tour de france 2023

On the other hand, if you’re looking for a long-distance bike, the X is probably more up your alley. The more upright and moderate seating position is immediately apparent, you can feel the compliance of the flex stays, which effectively filter out unpleasant vibrations on rough roads. The X’s straight-line stability is much smoother than the F’s, and it provides a feeling of safety. In return, a little more input is needed for fast and spontaneous trajectory changes in order to take the desired direction. During powerful climbs, you feel the slight flex in the seat stays, especially when riding out of the saddle, while in return the low rims want to accelerate quickly. After all, comfort is always in conflict with sheer performance. With a price of € 6,070, the lower susceptibility to crosswinds, coupled with the more comfortable riding characteristics, the X model is noticeably more suitable for the general public than the F.

Our conclusion on the new Pinarello F & X 2023 lineup

Pinarello are showing successful diversification in their new portfolio. The two new bikes should appeal to the price-conscious Pinarello fan both in the performance and endurance sectors. The F caters for those who would perhaps secretly like to whizz around on a DOGMA but don’t have the spare change, and the X satisfies the desire for a more mainstream, long-distance bike. A detailed test of the Pinarello X 3 will follow shortly.

Riding a Tour de France Champion, the Pinarello Dogma F8

Pinarello’s using aerospace-grade carbon fiber to make a bike that feels like riding on a cloud.

Pinarello-Dogma-Gear-Patrol-Lead-1440

By Matthew Ankeny

At the top of Mt. Lemmon, riding the Cervélo S5 , delirious from 20 straight miles of climbing, I pulled onto the shoulder, stopping with the SAG car. A chipper Aussie rode up on his Pinarello Dogma F8 , apparently unfazed by the climb and talking relentlessly of “holidays” and “investments” and his robust “portfolio.” I was cold ; the wind whistled on the top of the mountain. He chattered for 10 minutes straight. My teeth chattered inside my head. I straddled a $10,000, not-yet-released aero-road bike. The man’s rear seat-stay was cracked. And still, I envied his bike.

Pinarello portrays itself in a cocksure way. Their slogan at Eurobike boasted, against a bright yellow background, “Still Us…Nobody Like Us.” Their marketing materials dub the F8, the eighth version of their Dogma bike, “the eighth wonder of the world.” Fausto Pinarello, CEO of Pinarello, proclaims of the bike: “Whoever rides the new F8 Dogma will immediately perceive the extraordinary work done by our team.” One hopes something is lost in translation. Yet the bike — along with its boisterous advertising and propensity for attracting rich white men — backs all the boasting up.

The Dogma F8 aims to provide the well-rounded cycling experience. Fausto Pinarello also states that the frame “achieves new significant numerical data, but more importantly, maintains the unique driving feeling.” Compared to the two-time Tour de France -winning Dogma 65.1, the F8 presents 12 percent more stiffness, 120 grams less weight and 47 percent better aerodynamic performance. But that doesn’t matter. Specifications are only good when they translate to ride — “that unique driving feeling.”

For an aero-inspired bike, it leaps up ascents, capitalizing on the same qualities that make sprinting away from cabs comfortable in Manhattan — it’s light, stiff, and keeps things stable if the road gets rocky.

In two months of riding the F8, the driving feeling that stayed with me (and the thing I actually miss about the bike, now that it’s returned) was the cushioned road absorption. While most competitive frames can achieve transcendence while logging miles on windy back roads — and there, the F8 does shine — the actual-world reality is that often the roads are bumpy, the views less scenic, the effort to propel oneself forward jostled by pocked streets and debris. Riding in New York, this is only amplified.

Yet the F8 takes its lumps, and absorbs them. That’s partially due to the Toray T1100 1K Dream Carbon carbon fiber, which the Japanese supplier has kept exclusive to Pinarello. This sheds 120 grams, but it also adds to performance stiffness without compromising ride quality. It’s bolstered by the FlatBack tube construction, which is often brought up when discussing the bike’s aerodynamics (the concept comes from Wunibald Kamm’s “Kammback” theories ), but the design also allows for increased rigidity without compromising that necessary absorption flex. While commuting on the F8 (a semi-ridiculous proposition, but what else to ride?), even the bumpiest stretches of the Lower East Side weren’t overly fatiguing or frustrating.

pinarello dogma tour de france 2023

The bike also climbs (even if not powered by the spindly legs of Chris Froome or the stalks of Richie Porte) like a champion. For an aero-inspired bike, it leaps up ascents, capitalizing on the same qualities that make sprinting away from cabs comfortable in Manhattan — it’s light, stiff, and keeps things stable if the road gets rocky. And while I didn’t find the F8 to be an exceptionally potent sprinter, it does accelerate well and is easy to maintain at high speeds. When one really strings out the pedals, the bike doesn’t launch forward with the likes of a more exclusively aggressive frame (an experience that was opposite that of Peloton ‘s, but in line with BikeRadar ‘s). The F8 is simply not focused on rigidity exclusively; of course, unless you’re competing on the crit circuit , that’s for the better. For 99.9 percent of the rest of the ride, you have the advantage on the rest of the field.

The overall question is not whether the Pinarello Dogma F8 is a good bike. It is. It’s a fantastic bike. The question is, do you spend nearly $6,000 on the frame of a bicycle? And that is a question between you and the depth of your wallet . Work past the pompousness of Pinarello. Work past the fact that some of your compatriots on Pinarellos might be obnoxiously self-absorbed. For a bike with these looks, at this stiffness, with this premium of a ride, there is currently nothing else on the road that truly competes. Yes, you pay for it. But every time you mount the saddle, the Italians have ensured you get your money’s worth.

What Bike Is Each Team Racing in the Tour de France?

Details of the frames, wheels, components, and tires used by all 22 teams in the 2024 Tour de France.

trek madone gen 8

Nineteen bike brands are represented among the twenty-two teams participating in this year’s race. Wilier, Specialized, and Canyon sponsor two teams each. Enve and Van Rysel are two fresh faces in the 2024 Tour de France peloton. And Lapierre departs the Tour peloton after a 22-year run with the Groupama-FDJ team’s switch to Wilier.

On the drivetrain side, Shimano dominates the field, with 19 of the 22 Tour teams shifting with Dura-Ace Di2 derailleurs. The three remaining teams run SRAM's new Red AXS components. Campagnolo is absent from the Tour for another year.

sram red 2024

For tires, eight teams are on Continental (specifically the GP5000 S TR) and seven are on Vittoria (Corsa Pro) —all running tubeless systems. The two Specialized sponsored teams are using Specialized tires and latex inner tubes. Cofidis is the only team still running tubular tires (Michelin). The remaining four teams are on Cadex, Enve, Schwalbe, and Pirelli rubber.

Below is a complete list of the bikes—along with the component groups, wheels, and tires—used by each team in this year’s Tour de France.

Arkéa-B&B Hotels (ARK)

Astana-qazaqstan (ast), bahrain victorious (tbv), cofidis (cof), decathlon-ag2r la mondiale team (dat), ef education-easypost (efe), groupama-fdj (gfc), ineos grenadiers (igd), intermarché-wanty (iwa), israel-premier tech (ipt), lidl-trek (ltk), lotto-dstny (ltd), movistar team (mov), red bull-bora-hansgrohe (rbh), soudal-quickstep (soq), team dsm-firmenich postnl (dfp), team jayco-alula (jay), team visma-lease a bike (tvl), totalenergies (ten), uae team emirates (uad), uno-x mobility (uxm), alpecin-deceuninck (adc).

Bike: Canyon Aeroad CFR

Alpecin-Deceuninck uses Canyon’s Aeroad bike for the vast majority of race days. The brand released an updated version of its weight-focused Canyon Ultimate in 2022, which the team also has access to but rarely uses. We recently saw the team race a subtly updated version of the Aeroad, so expect to see an announcement from Canyon very soon. The closest consumer version of this bike from Canyon currently retails for $9,200.

Bike: Bianchi Specialissima RC or Oltre RC

Arkéa-B&B Hotels is sponsored by Bianchi. The team chooses between the Specialissima RC (an all-around bike) or the Oltre RC (the aero-focused bike shown above). The choice of bike is seemingly down to rider preference rather than the specific stage profile. Bianchi offers a team replica Oltre RC for sale but does not list a price. Expect to pay more than the standard Dura-Ace variant, which sells for $14,500.

Bike: Wilier Triestine Filante SLR

Astana-Qazaqstan is one of two teams sponsored by Wilier (the other is Groupma-FDJ). While Wilier recently launched a brand-new climbing bike (the Verticale SLR), I do not expect AST team riders will choose it over the brand’s all-around race bike (the Filante SLR), even for the high mountain stages. The Verticale SLR has virtually no aerodynamic features, and at the speeds that Tour riders climb, aerodynamics is always in play in the race. A consumer model of the Filante SLR with Dura-Ace sells for roughly $14,300.

Bikes: Merida Reacto (shown above) and Scultura

Merida bikes are rarely seen in North America but are very popular in other regions of the world. The brand offers its riders the choice of the aero-focused Reacto and the weight-focused Scultura. Both models have been around for a few seasons. I expect the team will primarily use the Reacto, but I wouldn't be surprised if Pello Bilbao (the team's GC hopeful) goes for the Scultura in some high mountain stages. Expect to pay roughly $12,000 for a team replica model (if you live in a part of the world where you can buy a Merida or you can import one).

Bike: Look 795 Blade RS

Look does not produce separate aero and climbing bikes. Instead, the French brand has one model optimized for both—a strategy many other brands are also turning to in 2024. The most interesting thing about the Cofidis team bikes is that they are the last team consistently using tubular tires. A Look 795 Blade RS with Dura-Ace and Corima wheels retails for $11,000.

Bike: Van Rysel RCR Pro

Another French team riding a French bike. The revitalized AG2R team has won races left and right since Decathlon joined as a title sponsor. The French sporting goods retailer supplies AG2R riders with its new Van Rysel RCR. The RCR is another all-around bike that balances weight with aerodynamics. Decathlon sells a team replica version of the RCR Pro for $11,000.

Bikes: Cannondale SuperSix Evo

Cannondale’s fourth-generation SuperSix Evo is both lightweight and quite aerodynamic. While the American brand offers an all-out aero bike (the SystemSix) most riders opt for the all-around SuperSix Evo instead. Ben Healy (the Irish breakaway specialist and known aero-weeny) is the rider more likely to be seen on the older SystemSix for that bit of extra aero. Cannondale sells a team replica SystemSix Evo Lab 71 for $14,000.

Bikes: Wilier Triestine Filante SLR

Like Astana-Qazaqstan, Groupama-FDJ also rides Wilier bikes. Both teams use Wilier’s all-around race bike (the Filante SLR), which balances weight and aerodynamics. The main difference between the bikes of these two teams comes down to wheels. Groupama-FDJ has long been a Shimano-sponsored team, so they use Shimano wheels instead of the Vision wheels used by Astana. The consumer model of the Filante SLR with Dura-Ace sells for roughly $14,300.

Bikes: Pinarello Dogma F

Pinarello has made the single aero and lightweight bike for longer than most competitors. The Italian brand recently updated the Dogma to be slightly more aero and lighter based largely on its partnership with the team. Ineos certainly hopes the updated bike will help them return to the top step of the Tour’s podium. A close replica of the team’s bike , which includes a Princeton CarbonWorks wheelset, can be purchased for $14,500.

Bikes: Cube Litening C:68X Pro

Cube has a relatively small presence in North America, but the worldwide brand has an enormous bike lineup featuring everything from commuter e-bikes to kids’ bikes. Obviously, the Litening C:68X is neither of those. Instead, it is the aero-focused Cube race bike that Intermarché-Wanty riders choose for most race days. The Dura-Ace model of the Listening is one of the least expensive consumer-available versions of a Tour de France race bike in this year’s event, selling for roughly $8,200.

Bikes: Factor Ostro VAM

The primary race bike of IPT, Factor released the updated Ostro VAM at the beginning of the 2024 racing season. While Factor also makes a dedicated lightweight climbing bike (the O2 VAM), the Ostro VAM is light enough that riders choose it for most days. A special edition Tour de France replica team bike with Dura-Ace is available from Factor for $11,200.

Bikes: Trek Madone 8

Trek launched a brand new eighth-generation Madone ahead of the Tour. Trek claims the new frame is as light as the Émonda (Trek’s lightweight climbing bike), which is being discontinued from the brand’s lineup. Importantly, the new Madone is also as aerodynamic as the previous generation Madone, which was a dedicated aero bike. Trek sells a team replica Madone 8 for $13,500 .

Bikes: Orbea Orca and Orca Aero

Orbea continues to provide dedicated aero bikes and climbing-focused bikes to Lotto-Dstny. Pictured above is the Orca Aero, but Lotto-Dstny riders have often used the lighter-weight Orca during the 2024 racing season. A Lotto-Dstny team replica with Dura-Ace sells for $12,000.

Bikes: Canyon Aeroad CFR Movistar is the second Canyon-sponsored team in the Tour. Like Alpecin-Deceuninck, Movistar also uses the Aeroad as its primary race bike. However, team leader and GC hopeful Enric Mas often chooses Canyon’s weight-focused Ultimate model. A SRAM Red version of the Aeroad from Canyon sells for $9,000—but this bike has the previous generation of Red. This is likely because a new Aeroad will be released soon with the latest Red parts. Expect that bike to be slightly more expensive. Groupset: SRAM Red AXS Wheels: Zipp Tires: Continental GP5000 S TR (tubeless)

Bike: Specialized Tarmac SL8

Specialized only offers the Tarmac SL8 to its sponsored teams, having moved away from the “aero is everything” slogan. The Tarmac SL8 is a do-it-all, lightweight-but-still-very-aerodynamic race bike. This also makes it easier for riders and teams —they no longer need to consider or transport two different bikes to each event. A team replica Tarmac SL8 is available for $16,500. Which is technically the most expensive complete bike in this year's race that someone could actually buy as is.

Bikes: Specialized Tarmac SL8

Soudal-QuickStep uses almost the same bikes as Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, except that the Soudal bikes use Shimano Dura-Ace drivetrains instead of SRAM Red. The $14,000 consumer version of the Tarmac SL8 with Dura-Ace is also slightly cheaper than the Red-equipped Red Bull team replica bike. However, the Dura-Ace-equipped Tarmac does not include the slightly lighter and more aero Team wheelset.

Bikes: Scott Foil RC

Scott is still a brand that makes both an aero and a lightweight bike (Scott Addict), but you would never know it by looking at the bikes raced by DSM-Firmenich PostNL races. The team rides the aero-optimized Scott Foil RC, even in the high mountains. It’s the case of an aero bike that became the team’s default race bike. A version of the team bike is available from Scott for $11,000.

Bikes: Giant Propel Advanced SL and TCR Advanced SL

Jayco-AlUla riders can choose between the aero-optimized Propel or the all-new, tenth-generation TCR that is more weight-focused. Built with Dura-Ace, both bikes are available to consumers for $12,750.

Bikes: Cervélo S5 and R5

Team Visma-Lease a Bike is known for optimizing everything. So it’s not surprising that they switch around bikes and wheels more often than most other teams. While Visma-Lease a Bike riders always ride the aero-optimized S5 on flat and rolling stages, they often switch to the weight-focused R5 for mountain stages—a standard practice for teams with two bike options. Visma-Lease a Bike also uses the in-between option of the aerodynamic S5 with very light wheels (shown above), presumably when the team’s math tells them it’s the right choice for the particular stage profile. The S5 with new Red retails for $13,000.

Bikes: Enve Melee

The Melee is Enve’s first production bike. The bike is an all-arounder that focuses on low weight, ride quality, and aerodynamics. While Enve has already won many races at the highest level as the wheel sponsor for UAE Team Emirates, it is a debutant at the Tour as a frame supplier with TotalEnergies. Enve does not offer complete bikes, but a replica team Melee frameset is available for $6,000. Expect a complete bike, built to team specifications, to sell for around $14,000.

Bikes: Colnago V4Rs

Launched in 2022, the Colnago V4Rs won many races under Tadej Pogačar. Not much has changed about the team bikes of UAE Team Emirates in the last few seasons. These bikes retain the dubious title of the most expensive team bikes in the Tour. A consumer version , built with Dura-Ace and Enve wheels, will set you back $15,500. But if you add the boutique Carbon-Ti parts (like chainrings and disc rotors) and a Darimo seatpost that the team is using on their bikes, you will spend closer to $17,000.

The cheapest bike in the 2024 Tour is the Dare VSRu, ridden by Team UNO-X. Dare bikes are not available in the U.S. However, when the bike’s price is converted to dollars, it is a very reasonable $7,450. And that’s with a full Dura-Ace groupset and DT Swiss ARC 1400 carbon wheels. It's a true shame that the brand is not available in North America.

Tour de France 2023 stage 15 preview: Route map and profile of 179km from Les Gets to St Gervais Mont Blanc

T he final stage of this year’s 2023 Tour de France before the second rest day is a brute: five categorised climbs over 179km culminating in a summit finish in the shadow of Mont Blanc.

Yesterday saw a dramatic fight on the high roads to Morzine between reigning champion Jonas Vingegaard and two-time winner Tadej Pogacar . The two giants of this race went head to head, but Pogacar’s big attack was thwarted by a media motorcycle riding far too close, and Vingegaard capitalised to gain one more second over his rival. So Vingegaard starts today’s stage 15 still wearing the yellow jersey, and with a 10-second lead from Pogacar.

This ride begins in the picturesque resort of Les Gets and the first 70km are relatively flat, but what follows is relentless hard climbing and some rapid, technical descents. First comes the category one Col de la Forclaz de Montmin (7.2km at 7.3%), before the longest climb of the day and a potential place to launch a race-defining attack: Col de la Croix Fry (11.3km at 7%). If Pogacar is feeling fresh, he might try to shake off Vingegaard here, but it would be a bold move with 50km to the finish.

A more sensible strategy – and Pogacar has played a relatively conservative, measured game for the majority of this Tour so far – would be to crest the Croix Fry with teammates in hand, tick off the Col des Aravis (4.4km at 5.8%) and the short but sharp Cote des Amerands (2.7km at 10.9%), before attacking on the final ascent to the summit finish at St Gervais Mont Blanc (7km at 7.7%).

Will Pogacar pay for what happened en route to Morzine? “I lost a bullet but it is what it is,” he said of the incident with the motorcycle, which was hemmed in by waves of fans on the mountain road. “It will be a matter of seconds in the coming days. We’ll fight until the end.”

Vingegaard thinks their rivalry will be more explosive than that. “I still don’t think it will be decided by seconds,” the Dane said. “At one point someone will take a fair bit of time on the other.”

That could certainly happen today. There are still two more mountain routes to come, as well as an individual time trial, but stage 15 could well be the day that decides this Tour de France.

Stage 15 route map and profile

The stage is set to begin at around 12pm BST and is expected to finish at around 5pm BST.

It is all set up for another straight shootout between Vingegaard and Pogacar on the final summit, racing to win the stage. Vingegaard is yet to win one on this Tour.

Vingegaard’s best chance is to launch a high-risk attack with a few kilometres to go and try to crack Pogacar with a relentless pace, claiming a big chunk of time just as he did in the first week; Pogacar’s best strategy is to wait until the final few hundred metres where he can unleash his explosive climbing sprint, pinching a few crucial seconds. But given Vingegaard already has the yellow jersey and doesn’t need to take any risks, the latter scenario is more likely. I’m tipping Pogacar to win stage 15 by a handful of seconds.

TOUR-Prognose : Diese Rennräder werden die Tour de France bestimmen

Jens Klötzer

 ·  24.06.2024

Hersteller investieren viel Geld

Colnago V4Rs - Nobel-Hobel (UAE Team Emirates)

Colnago V4Rs >> <a href="https://tnkdbf.tradeinn.com/ts/i5534689/tsc?typ=r&amc=con.blbn.497955.507976.14119779&smc=TOUR&rmd=3&trg=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tradeinn.com%2Fbikeinn%2Fde%2Fcolnago-v4rs-ultegra-8170-di2-fulcrum-r600-2024-rennrad%2F140932285%2Fp" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">hier erhältlich</a>*

Ausstattung

  • Antrieb/Schaltung: Shimano Dura-Ace
  • Bremsen: Shimano Dura-Ace
  • Laufräder: Enve SES
  • Reifen: Continental Grand Prix 5000 TT TR
  • Aerodynamik: 2/5 Sternen
  • Gewicht: 3/5 Sternen
  • Komfort: 4/5 Sternen

Cervélo S5 - Fluchthelfer (Visma | Lease a Bike)

Cervélo S5 >> <a href="https://yubcbv.fahrrad-xxl.de/ts/i5533923/tsc?typ=r&amc=con.blbn.497955.507976.14129791&smc=TOUR&rmd=3&trg=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.fahrrad-xxl.de%2Fcervelo-s5-ultegra-di2-m000067069" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">hier erhältlich</a>*

  • Antrieb/Schaltung: SRAM Red AXS

Pinarello Dogma F - Fast-Alleskönner (Ineos Grenadiers)

Pinarello Dogma F

Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8 - Komplettpaket (Soudal - Quick Step, Bora-Hansgrohe)

Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8 >> <a href="https://tnkdbf.tradeinn.com/ts/i5534689/tsc?typ=r&amc=con.blbn.497955.507976.14119779&smc=TOUR&rmd=3&trg=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tradeinn.com%2Fbikeinn%2Fde%2Fspecialized-s-works-tarmac-sl8-dura-ace-di2-2024-rennrad%2F140276406%2Fp" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">hier erhältlich</a>*

Canyon Aeroad CFR - Speed-Maschine (Alpecin-Deceuninck, Movistar)

Canyon Aeroad CFR

Giant Propel Advanced SL - schwierige Wahl (Team Jayco-AlUla)

Giant Propel Advanced SL >> <a href="https://tnkdbf.tradeinn.com/ts/i5534689/tsc?typ=r&amc=con.blbn.497955.507976.14119779&smc=TOUR&rmd=3&trg=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tradeinn.com%2Fbikeinn%2Fde%2Fgiant-propel-advanced-sl-0-dura-ace-di2-2024-rennrad%2F140955186%2Fp" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">hier erhältlich</a>*

  • Komfort: 5/5 Sternen

Trek Madone SLR - Schwergewicht (Lidl-Trek)

Trek Madone SLR

Cannondale Super Six Lab71 - Aero-Überraschung (EF Education EasyPost)

Cannondale Super Six Lab71

Alpecin Deceuninck

Racing for green.

As was the case at the start of the 2023 Tour, the safe bet on this team is Jasper Philipsen. Thanks to his four stage victories at the 2023 Tour, the Belgian sprinter dominated the contest for the green jersey. His team’s primary objective is stage victories, a goal bolstered by world champion Mathieu van der Poel, who will be a real threat on stages with punchy climbs and the stage featuring the white roads of Champagne. Even if the GC isn’t a priority for him, Alpecin-Deceuninck’s Dutch leader would like to repeat the feat he achieved at Mûr-de-Bretagne in 2021, when he took a stage victory and the yellow jersey.

Démare on a mission.

This French team from the Brittany region has a clear objective: to take at least one stage victory with new recruit Arnaud Démare. Given the level of the sprinters set to start the race, this seems an immense challenge. Already a two-time stage winner at the Tour, Démare, who is closing in on the milestone of 100 career victories, should be able to count, among others, on his former Groupama-FDJ teammate Miles Scotson in his sprint lead-out train. We should keep an eye too on Tour debutant Kévin Vauquelin, who could produce some nice surprises in the so-called transition stages.

Cav targets the merckx record.

During the opening week, the whole team should be at the service of Mark Cavendish as he chases a Tour stage victory that would better the all-time record he shares with Eddy Merckx. Cav, 39, will once again be able to count on his lead-out man, Michael Mørkøv, who’s the same age as his sprinter. Renowned as the world’s best lead-out man, the Dane helped guide the Manxman to many of his previous victories—including a stage of this year’s Tour of Hungary in May. As for Alexey Lutsenko—who pulled out of this year’s Giro d’Italia due to sickness—the Kazazk rider should focus on seeking stage victories like the one he scored at Mont Aigoual in the 2020 Tour.

Stage hunters.

The Bahrain Victorious team’s objective is to reproduce the abundant harvest of stage wins it took at last year’s Tour: Spain’s Pello Bilbao in Issoire, Slovenia’s Matej Mohorič in Poligny and Dutch veteran Wout Poels in Saint-Gervais. This team still has the flair to infiltrate breakaways that go the distance and finish them off successfully. Besides the 2023 winners, the team has hopes for stage victories from German sprinter Phil Bauhaus, British all-arounder Fred Wright and Colombian climber Santiago Buitrago—who could also do well on GC.

All in for roglič.

Having jumped ship from Jumbo-Visma, Primož Roglič has come to this solid German team (which now has a financial boost from Red Bull), so he can get complete support in his bid to win the Tour. That said, this team does have another card to play for the overall classification in the form of Jai Hindley, the 2022 Giro champion and a mountain stage winner at last year’s Tour. Alongside them, Alexander Vlasov and Bob Jungels are both strong support riders and can play their own card if required. Due to the team’s focus on GC, last year’s Champs-Élysées stage winner, sprinter Jordi Meeus, has been left out.

More confident

Cofidis has several riders who could infiltrate long-distance breakaways—and it’s a strategy that could suit team leader Guillaume Martin, who has twice finished top 10 at the Tour. After the team took two stage wins last year after a long drought, the French team should feel confisdent to shoot for more success this year. Ion Izagirre could again win a stage and so could the talented Frenchman Alex Zingle, who’s riding his second Tour. As for veteran sprinter Brian Coquard, he’s still looking for a first Tour stage win but he’ll have to fend largely for himself in the bunch finishes.

Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale

Multi-talented.

Team boss Vincent Lavenu has always managed to achieve unexpected successes with his riders, and he again has a homogeneous team, which has taken a string of victories this season. Its top climbers, Ben O’Connor and Aurélien Paret-Peintre, can focus on stage victories and the polka-dot jersey—and the GC if they are fully recovered from riding the Giro. Benoît Cosnefroy is a potential stage winner and Austrian Félix Gall, eighth overall and the stage-winner at Courchevel in 2023, needs to confirm that promising debut. Also, this Decathlon-AG2R team has been bolstered by the arrival of Sam Bennett. The Irish sprinter has won 10 grand tour stages and took the Tour’s green jersey in 2020. He may be a notch below the best current sprinters, but he has shown promising form this year and took a stage win at the Four Days of Dunkirk in May.

Better luck for carapaz.

In reigning Olympic road champion Richard Carapaz, the American team has a seasoned leader who has finished on the podium at all three grand tours, including victory at the 2019 Giro. Victim of a crash on the opening stage that forced him to abandon the 2023 Tour, the Ecuadorian is hoping for better luck this year. He can count on the help of American Neilson Powless and Colombian Rigoberto Urán (in his final season), while Britons Simon Carr and Hugh Carthy add extra climbing strength. Jonathan Vaughters’ team should target a variety of goals, perhaps including a stage win for its budding Dutch sprinter Marijn van den berg or the aggressive Irish rider Ben Healy—both making their Tour debuts.

Groupama-FDJ

Gaudu’s best tour.

After placing 11th, fourth and ninth in the past three Tours, David Gaudu is clearly targeting the podium this year. The leader of the French team can count on the Swiss Stefan Küng and the solid and experienced Frenchmen Valentin Madouas and Rudy Molard to stay with him as long as possible. We should keep tabs on 21-year-old Romain Grégoire. On his Tour debut, the French rider could cause a real sensation and even seize a victory bouquet for Marc Madiot’s team after claiming in April his first UCI WordTour success with a stage win at the Itzulia Basque Country race.

Ineos Grenadiers

Bernal renaissance.

With two of the best and most experience grand tour winners, Egan Bernal and Geraint Thomas, along with future star Carlos Rodríguez, the INEOS Grenadiers should play a major role in the fight for the podium. Having placed top 10 in all five of his stage races this year, Bernal is gradually regaining his best form two years after his near-fatal training accident in Colombia. Will the winner of the 2019 Tour and 2021 Giro be up to the mark in July? With its heavy GC hitters and attack-minded riders Tom Pidcock and Michał Kwiatkowski, the British team can focus on several fronts.

Intermarché-Wanty

A stage win in sight.

This Belgian team has yet to open its account at the Tour de France. It hasn’t taken a stage victory since its first appearance seven years ago! With no one capable of contending for the overall classification, the tean will aim to slip into breakaways and finally achieve that elusive success. That means carte blanche for canny racers like Louis Meintjes, Mike Teunissen and Georg Zimmermann, who can try their luck on hilly stages. Faced with rivals of an exceptional level, Eritrean sprinter Biniam Girmay will have some difficulty making his mark in bunch finishes; but he’s also capable of getting into breakaways where his speed could make him the first Black African—and the first rider from his team—to win a stage of the Tour.

Israel-Premier Tech

Carte blanche.

The weight of passing years is likely to lie heavy on the shoulders of four-time Tour winner Chris Froome, who has struggled for five years to find his previous form and fitness since his terrible crash in June 2019 that saw him fracture his femur, pelvis, ribs and elbow. Another crash, at Tirreno-Adriatico in March—where he broke his scaphoid—delayed his current season and competing at June’s Critérium du Dauphiné was his last hope of qualifying for the Israel-Premier Tech‘s Tour formation. The team has no GC hopefuls (at 39, Jakob Fuglsang is past his best and Michael Woods crashed out of this year’s Giro with a concussion), so the team has no true leader to protect. However, Woods, winner on the Puy de Dôme last year, and Hugo Houle, who won at Foix in 2022 have carte blanche; as does Tour debutant Stevie Williams, the Welshman who won the Flèche Wallonne classic in April and has strong hopes of success on stages that close with punchy climbs.

Full of Promise

After long months of absence following a heavy crash at the 2023 Giro, British rider Tao Geoghegan Hart—who’s switched from INEOS Grenadiers (with which he won the 2022 Giro)—will bring more maturity to a team made up of promising young riders. Among those who should benefit from his presence are Italian climber Giulio Ciccone, who had a late start to this season, and Toms Skujiņš, who’s enjoying a successful campaign. Also aiming for a stage win is fast finisher Mads Pedersen, the 2019 world road champion, who registered nine victories in the first two months of 2024, including the Ghent–Wevelgem classic.

Lotto-Dstny

Good prospects.

This Belgian squad, which hasn’t had a stage win at the Tour since sprinter Caleb Ewan was successful in 2020, will simply be aiming to replicate that victory with its latest fast sprinter Arnaud De Lie, who’s making his Tour debut. Lotto-Dstny can also count on the racing knowledge of breakaway specialist Victor Campenaerts, while the Belgian fans are most looking forward to the performance of debutant Maxim Van Gils—who impressed in  the spring classics by finishing third at Flèche Wallonne, fourth at Liège–Bastogne–Liège and first at Eschborn–Frankfurt.

Movistar Team

Uncertainty for mas.

Enric Mas doesn’t win many races, but he is consistent in the grand tours—assuming he gets through them without crashing. He has placed second at the Vuelta three times and took a promising fifth place at the 2020 Tour. This year, he has completed three weeklong stage races, finishing 12th at Tirreno–Adriatico, fifth at the Volta a Catalunya and sixth at the Tour de Romandie. That bodes well for a solid Tour performance, but given the high level of competition, it will be difficult for him to try for the podium. If he drops out of contention in the first week, Mas should switch his focus to winning stages, a goal that will also be pursued by Spanish sprinter Alex Aranburu, French rouleur Rémi Cavagna and Austrian climber Gregor Mühlberger.

Soudal-QuickStep

Focus on remco.

The Spanish climber Mikel Landa has arrived to strengthen this Belgian team that will be totally dedicated to helping Remco Evenepoel compete with the best on his first Tour de France appearance. Their plans have been somewhat compromised by both Evenepoel and Landa crashing and breaking their collarbones at April’s Itzulia Basque Country race, but with the added support of Tour debutant Ilan Van Wilder, the team’s strategy will remain clear—everything for Evenepoel!

Old stagers.

Will this Tour become a lap of honor for Romain Bardet? With fellow French star Warren Barguil also in this Dutch team’s ranks, there is a sense of it being a tour de force for the old stagers. The GC still has a degree of importance for Bardet, but should he drop out of contention he could again target stage wins. He’ll be keen to shine in front of his local fans on the mountain stage to Le Lioran. Breton climber Barguil will also target stage victories. As for the flat stages, another old stager, John Degenkolb, will be out to assist the team’s main sprinter Fabio Jakobsen.

Team Jayco Alula

Experience counts.

The Australian team should be able to contend on several fronts. Dylan Groenewegen, who has five Tour stage wins to his credit, will want to showcase his explosiveness in the bunch finishes. The team can also count on Michael Matthews, a four-time Tour stage winner, who’s so strong in the uphill sprints. When the race reaches the mountains, we should see Simon Yates emerge. The 2018 Vuelta winner, who skipped the Giro for the first time in six years, could initially concentrate on GC and, if this doesn’t pan out, could switch his focus to stage victories. The second half of the Tour should offer him some great opportunities.

Team Visma-Lease a Bike

Hard to predict.

This powerhouse Dutch squad, considered the favorite for another Tour title, was hit by two major blows in the spring. The terrible crashes suffered by two-time defending Tour champion Jonas Vingegaard at the Itzulia Basque Country and by his key lieutenant Wout van Aert on the roads of Dwars door Vlaanderen has forced the Visma team to review its Tour strategy. There’s no certainty that Vingegaard, who was aiming for a third straight yellow jersey, will start the Tour and what his level of fitness might be. The team could play the Sepp Kuss card after his victory at the 2023 Vuelta—and the American climber will be fully prepared to take over the leadership role. As for French star Christophe Laporte, he would be able to focus on his stage-winning goals.

TotalEnergies

French stage hunters.

This second division French team has been chasing a stage win since 2017. Its riders are very active and often present in breakaways. And there’s always the hope that an explosive rider like Alexis Vuillermoz can repeat his brilliant stage win at Mûr-de-Bretagne in the 2015 Tour. Perhaps this will also be the moment for Anthony Turgis or Mathieu Burgaudeau to confirm their talent. They’re capable of getting into breakaways and spicing up some of the transition stages. Also, Geoffrey Soupe’s burst of speed could prove valuable if he finishes in a small group. Only Pierre Latour can harbor any ambitions for the GC.

UAE Team Emirates

A third title.

The strategy is clear: The UAE team’s only objective is to put Tadej Pogačar in the best possible position to add a third Tour de France to his impressive palmarès. Having raced the Giro a few weeks beforehand, the question is whether the Slovenian superstar can do the double. Everything will depend on his ability to recuperate and the presence or not of chief rival Jonas Vingegaard when the race gets underway. Like last year, Pogačar will be able to count on a strong cohort of riders, reinforced by the arrival of two all-rounders, Pavel Sivakov and Nils Politt, to reinforce a squad already boasting a phalanx of top climbers headed by Juan Ayuso and Adam Yates.

Uno-X Mobility

Seeking a first bouquet.

This is the second Tour appearance for this Norwegian squad, which has once again benefited from a wild-card invitation from the organizers. Uno-X is structured around its leader Tobias Johannessen, who finished 30th on GC last year. From a roster comprising only Scandinavian riders, the team will also count on the experience of veteran sprinter Alexander Kristoff and new arrival Magnus Cort to implement an attack-focused strategy. Having a presence in the breakaways will increase the team’s chances of claiming a first victory bouquet.

New bikes galore, RIP rim brakes (almost) and cutting edge kit: all the best tech debuting at the 2024 Tour de France including Trek, Giant, Roval, Hammerhead + more

New bikes galore, RIP rim brakes (almost) and cutting edge kit: all the best tech debuting at the 2024 Tour de France including Trek, Giant, Roval, Hammerhead + more

The Tour de France is, in addition to being the biggest bike race in the world, the best opportunity for the team sponsors to show off their brand new products to millions of viewers watching their favourite riders, teams and equipment being tested to the limit.

It's also the reason we've been very busy typing up news of new bikes and components seemingly every other day in the past few weeks, and as a result, we can share a bunch of new bikes, components and gear making their Tour de France debuts in 2024. Sadly, that also means some things could be making their final appearances at this year's Tour, such as poor old rim brakes...

Spotting all the below debutants on the 111th Tour de France will add some excitement to the three-week-long race, and if you are interested in an overall look at what bikes each team is riding, we've also put together a  definitive guide to what the top men's pro cycling teams are riding this year . This list isn't absolutely exhaustive, more a round-up of our favourite bikes, kit and tech that is new for 2024, and we'll update later on in the race if we spot any more unreleased stuff worthy of your attention...

The 2025 Trek Madone SLR

2025 Trek Madone lifestyle main - Ross Bell

Wait, but it wasn't an Emonda? Trek has been teasing us about its newest race road bike for what feels like ages now, and finally, before the Grand Depart, we've got confirmation that the new bike is indeed a new Madone – but at the same time, it incorporates the features of Émonda SLR. So in essence, as Trek said: "With a new Gen 8 Madone, you really don’t need two race bikes anymore."

The new Madone 8 replaces both the seventh-generation Madone and the carbon Émonda, which means that you'll see the Trek-Lidl riders aboard these brand new all-rounder racing bikes plenty over the three weeks of the men's Tour de France and in August at the Tour de France Femmes.

Wilier Verticale SLR

WilierVerticaleAction-1395

Wilier released its new climbing bikem the Verticale SLR, in the week leading up to the Tour de France start, and its main selling point is really its light weight. Wilier says the frame, seatpost and fork tip the scale at 1,353g which (after we had done some calculations) possibly makes the bike even lighter than the Specialized flagship S-Works Tarmac SL8 (1,410g for the frame, seatpost and fork).

That means that both Groupama-FDJ and Astana Qazaqstan will have a new lightweight bike to propel up those mountains, while the Filante SLR remains there for Sir Mark Cavendish to go for that 35th stage win on the flatter stages.

Roval Rapide CLX II Team wheels

2024 Roval Rapide CLX II Team wheels Evenepoel Dauphine - 1

Roval, the in-house components arm of Specialized, has brought its sponsored teams Soudal-Quickstep and Bora Hansgrohe some new Rapide CLX II Team wheels to roll on at the tour, and the brand hasn't been humble in claiming that this is "the fastest race wheelset globally".

They are 130g lighter and slightly more aero than the previous Rapide CLX II model, and Roval has opted for hooked rims, saying that “we know that hookless wheels can’t perform under our demanding high-pressure testing standards, and any carbon wheel can crack under intense impact, but that’s no excuse for a tyre to blow off”.

> Review: Roval Rapide CL II Tubeless Wheelset

Whether they live up to the claims of being the fastest... well, we've got a few weeks to fix our eyes on the likes of Remco Evenepoel and Demi Vollering and see if they power to stage victories on these hoops.

Colnago’s new Tour de France bike

2024 Colnago C68 Fleur-de-Lys Tour de France - 4

It's no news to anyone that the pro riders' bikes are pricey, but Colnago's limited-edition version of its C68 road bike , which marks the 2024 Tour de France’s start in Florence, Italy, is on another level with its €23,000 (about £19,600) price tag.

Colnago has produced only 111 of these bikes – because it’s the 111th Tour de France – and thye will be auctioned by Sotheby’s, one of the world's largest auction houses.

While you won't see Team UAE Team Emirates racing on these bikes at the Tour de France, you might have spotted the number one model ridden by Tadej Pogačar during the race’s team presentation (27th June), and that one will go up for sale on the first rest day on 8 July and end on the second rest day on 15 July.

The all new Giant TCR

2024 Giant TCR Advanced SL 1 Ultegra Di2.jpg

If, like me, you had already forgotten that Giant launched yet another TCR this year (it's actually the 10th iteration) - you can be forgiven. That's because, a little strangely, the bike was launched back in March , and that was months ago. But, nevertheless, the men's Team Jayco AlUla will be using this bike alongside the more aero Propel at Tour de France.

It was, however, a big launch and saw Giant's flagship road bike undergo a transformation to become the "lightest, most efficient TCR ever". This meant it shaved off 70g, gained a millimetre of tyre clearance and got a nice, integrated front end. Parallel to the TCR launch, Giant's componentry brand Cadex also released new wheels and tyres, and you can certainly spot those at the Tour as well.

And though it is not quite (but kind of) the women-specific version of the TCR, we also saw the  Liv Langma go through a similar revamp just a couple of weeks ago . The new Langma will be ridden at the Tour de France Femmes in August by team Jayco-AlUla.

Rim brakes another step close to Tour extinction as the Giant Trinity TT bike goes disc

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GreenEDGE Cycling (@greenedgecycling)

The yet-to-be-released 2025 Giant Trinity time trial bike will be seen at the TT stages of the Tour de France. Though we don't have all the details of the new bike yet, it deserves a mention. It's not only one of the longest-serving TT-bikes in the pro peloton, but until now, it's also been one of the last ones flying the flag for rim brakes.

> One of the only rim brake bikes left in the Tour de France peloton! Check out the Giant Trinity TT bike

So rim brake lovers, brace yourselves... because the 2025 Trinity now has disc brakes! What that means is that unless something changes again, there is only one rim brake bike left in the WorldTour peloton, and that is the Bianchi Aquila TT bike, used by the French Team Arkéa-Samsic. You better have a good look at that while you can, because who knows; it might be that the 2025 Tour de France is completely rim brakes-less.

Pinarello Dogma F

2025 Pinarello Dogma F - 1 (2).jpeg

Pinarello has been providing us plenty of entertainment with its efforts to keep its latest iteration Dogma F under covers at the Dauphine, the race that some even call the "mini Tour de Fran e". Well, despite the team's efforts, the secret bike is now well and truly out in the open , and you will see it raced by Ineos Grenadiers riders.

> road.cc CANCELLED by Ineos! What happened when we tried to take pics of the new Pinarello Dogma

What's new about it? Unsurprisingly, it's lighter (108g compared to the old one) and has a 0.2% reduction in drag – mainly because of the re-designed frame shapes, and of course, that means it's faster than ever.

Canyon Aeroad

2024 Canyon Aeroad Dauphine - 2.jpeg

As the Tour kicks off, Canyon has still not officially shared the details of its newest Aeroad aero road bike – a bike that we have seen F1 driver Valtteri Bottas ride around the F1 racing tracks, as well as at the Dauphine .

From what we've seen, the new Aeroad has a revamped cockpit – something similar to the one found on the latest Canyon Grail . The new one-piece handlebar on the premium gravel bike was the debut of the ‘Gear Groove’ – a section in the middle of the bar where you can attach accessories such as a computer mount. It seems that the Aeroad has adopted that, alongside a few other frame design changes.

SRAM Red AXS groupset

2024 Sram Red AXS drivetrain 4

SRAM introduced its new Red AXS as “the lightest electronic groupset ever” back in May, after it had been spotted at various places beforehand. The shifters saw quite a thorough revamp, and according to SRAM, it's "the most effortless drivetrain to use".

> Read our review of the SRAM Red AXS 2024

Out of the 22 WorldTour teams, only four are riding with SRAM components, but that means you can still spot it in the midst of the racing, and see if those brand new side buttons, lighter braking and improved front shifts make any difference to the riders' performances.

Pirelli P Zero Race TLR RS tyres

2024 Pirelli P Zero Race TLR RS tyre tread

When it comes to new Tour de France tech, Lidl-Trek seems to be the team that has a lot going on. Not only does it have the new Madone, but it also races on the new SRAM Red AXS groupset and brand new Pirelli P Zero Race TLR RS tyres .

These new road tyres claim to have enhanced rolling resistance, grip and reduced weight, and they're also now made in Italy.

Hammerhead Karoo 3 cycling computer

Hammerhead Karoo 3

The SRAM-acquired brand Hammerhead released its newest iteration Karoo 3 cycling computer (which it insists should just be called 'Karoo') at the same time as the updated Red AXS groupset and a few other bits from Zipp and Goodyear .

> Hammerhead Karoo 3 review

There is only one team in the men's pro peloton relying on the Hammerhead: Bora-Hansgrohe.

2024 Van Rysel road bikes and kit

2024 Van Rysel RCR Pro Van Rysel logo shot

The start of the 2024 season saw  Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale wave goodbye to its brown bibs, and embrace a head-to-toe Van Rysel apparel and helmet look . The main sponsor of this team won't go unnoticed by anyone, as the team is also aboard (obviously) the Van Rysel pro team road bikes and time trial bikes.

There's also a mysterious new Van Rysel aero road bike set to be used in the sprint stages, that you can read more about here .

Deda Alanera RS handlebar

Deda Alanera RS

Continuing on the theme of the above team, at the front of the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team rider's Van Rysel RCR Pro bikes, you can spot the newest handlebar from Deda. It's not just any handlebar either, but according to the brand represents "the pinnacle of integrated handlebar technology". Considering the original Alanera was the first integrated bar to be used by a Tour de France winner, Deda arguably has good reason to be bold with its claims.

> Van Rysel’s £9,000 RCR Pro team edition replica sells out in minutes

These bars should also be "comfortable, super aero and [come] with an on-trend 6-degree flare". Lucky for Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team, they have it all! When it comes to that flare though, you will spot that more and more riders are adopting the handlebar style that is certainly more prominent on the gravel scene, allowing for a wider grip on the drops but giving a narrow and tucked-in position at the hoods.

POC's new Procen Air helmet

View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by EF Education–EasyPost (@efprocycling)

Team EF-Education - Easypost has been pretty keen on wearing the newest Procen Air helmet, and no wonder; according to POC’s wind tunnel testing, it is between 5 and 18 watts faster than the POC Ventral helmet at speeds from 30km/h to 60km/h.

It is not the best for ventilation (as you might tell from Steffan Bissegar's face above) but as we've learnt over the years, those aero gains are really crucial for good results.

Ceramicspeed OSPW RS

Ceramicspeed ospw rs 2024 copy

As with most new cycling tech, if you're very eagle-eyed (as Jamie, our Head of Video, is) and have access to cycling events, then you can spot a lot of unreleased tech ahead of its launch. That's the case with Ceramicspeed's latest OSPW (oversized pulley wheel) system, making its debut at this year's TdF, but first spotted by us at SeaOtter Europe in September 2023 .

The OSPW RS has taken cues from the OSPW X that was made for SRAM’s Eagle Transmission and can be fitted with the brand’s ‘Alpha Disc’ design, which essentially is a solid pulley wheel. The disc section of the pulley is made of aluminium, and the outer ring and teeth are made using a composite material. This should make for better dirt shedding and durability.

The outer cage design has also seen a revamp to be more aero, and knowing that crashes at big races are almost inevitable, the cage should also be stronger if it gets hit. And you'd like it to last, because each of these beauties costs £515...

And much more...

Though we've listed a whole host of bikes and equipment above, more newness is present at the Tour than one feature will allow us to cover. Let us know in the comments below what your top spy shots are, and they might make our next update!
