The Philippine Travel Mart (PTM), one of the country’s longest-running travel exhibitions, will hold its 2022 edition starting Sept. 30.
The expo, which will run until Oct. 2 at SMX Convention Center, will feature more than 200 exhibitors and promises accommodation, flights, as well as, domestic and international travel packages at discounted prices.
“We’ve been waiting for a long time and now is the perfect time to travel again, support local businesses, and explore the Philippines and beyond,” Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) president Fe Abling-Yu said.
Abling-Yu said the expo this year is targeted to match the PTM held prior to the pandemic. The expo had been staged for the last two years but exhibitors only reached over 50 both in 2020 and 2021.
“Pre-pandemic we had over 200 exhibitors then so parang nandoon na kami sa level na ‘yon ngayon exhibitors (So we are a bit close to the pre-pandemic level now),” Abling-Yu said.
The expo’s layout features designated zones for various tourism products such as sun and beach, marine sports, cruise; health, wellness, culinary; cultural, farm tourism; entertainment and Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE).
Also included in this year’s PTM offers are tour packages in Bali, Siem Reap, Ho Chi Minh as well as Japan, Malaysia, and South Korea.
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, on the sidelines of the PTM launch, said the Philippines could compete with Southeast Asian neighbors and leading tourist destinations in the region.
“If you put our country side by side with our main competitors in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region, our offerings are almost the same if not better. In that, we have beaches, natural resources, beautiful people, beautiful products, various destinations,” she said.
To further position the country as a top tourist destination, she told stakeholders that the DOT would introduce programs to improve the overall tourist experience in the country.
Aligned with the PTM’s 2022 theme “Safe Travels,” Frasco also assured travelers that she personally instructed concerned offices to ensure that tourist sites in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are “safe and well-equipped to receive guests”.
“We will also provide a convenient and better tourism experience for both foreign and domestic travelers through standardized travel protocols,” she said.
“We have reached out to the DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government), the Bureau of Immigration, and the Bureau of Quarantine to ensure that our entry protocols are reasonable, are consistent throughout the country, and will encourage, not dissuade, tourists from coming to the Philippines and going from place to place across our country,” she added. The Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX) stands as the country’s foremost government-organized travel trade event, with a legacy dating back to its establishment in 1996. The event attracts esteemed qualified buyers from around the globe, affording them the opportunity to engage in meaningful table-top business appointments with distinguished Philippine sellers. Moreover, it enables participants to experience the allure of various Philippine tourism destinations through post-event tours, all with the overarching goal of bolstering tourist arrivals in our beloved nation.
Over the years, PHITEX has emerged as a pivotal annual marketing occasion that strengthens the Philippines’ brand image and fosters a spirit of collaboration among participants in promoting affordable and competitive tourism packages.
Notably, even amid the challenges posed by the pandemic, TPB demonstrated resilience and innovation in September 2020 by hosting the PHITEX 2020 Hybrid Edition in Panglao, Bohol, an online travel trade show that opened new doors to tourism stakeholders across the globe. It offered a novel hybrid e-conference environment, facilitating the exploration of fresh opportunities and markets, while providing invaluable updates to global buyers on the latest and most enticing Philippine tourism offerings.
Building upon the momentum, PHITEX ventured outside of Metro Manila in 2021, choosing Subic as its host, and in 2022, the event made its triumphant return to Metro Manila, marking the first time since the pandemic that international buyers were able to physically attend. Coming out of the pandemic, the PHITEX was once again conducted purely physically and was held in Cebu in 2023, after its first hosting 16 years ago.
This year, PHITEX returns to Metro Manila on 03-05 September 2024. Targeting 80 international buyers and 80 Philippine seller companies, the event will have a two-day face-to-face Travel Exchange (TRAVEX), PHITEX Educational Program (PEP) Talk, and Post-Event Tours for Buyers.
The Philippines
The Republic of the Philippines is an archipelago consisting of 7,641 islands and islets lying about 800 km off the southeast coast of Asia and stretching 1,850 km from north to south. It is bounded by the Philippine Sea to the east, the Celebes Sea to the south, and the West Philippine Sea to the west and north. The Philippines takes its name from King Philip II, who was king of Spain during the Spanish colonization of the islands in the 16th century. Manila is the national capital. It is located in Luzon, the largest island. Only about two-fifths of the islands and islets have names, and only 350 are larger than one square mile.
The Philippines is home to about 112 million people. Filipinos comprise 111 cultural and linguistic groups of Malay-Polynesian origin, with varying degrees of Chinese, Spanish and American influences. About 90 percent of Filipinos are Roman Catholic, with smaller numbers of Protestants and Muslims. The national language is Filipino, although English is the language of commerce and politics.
Each Seller / Buyer registrant will receive an email from the PHITEX 2024 Secretariat confirming their participation for the B2B.

Philtoa returns with the 33rd Philippine Travel Mart
With the tourism industry gaining strength after lockdowns brought about by the pandemic, the Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) announces the return of the Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) for its 33rd year happening from September 30 to October 2, 2022 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.
While the country is ripe for “revenge travel”, this year’s PTM theme is “Safe Travels” to address a safer and more relaxed environment that awaits eager travelers looking for memorable adventures. For the record, at least 70 million Filipinos are fully vaccinated and tourism outlets are prepared to welcome foreign and local tourists.
“It is with great joy and excitement that we invite everyone to the biggest Philippine Travel Mart to date. We’ve been waiting for a long time and now is the perfect time to travel again, support local businesses, and explore the Philippines and beyond,” shares PHILTOA President Fe Abling-Yu.
What to expect
The three-day travel expo will feature over 200 exhibitions from local and international participants showcasing exclusive domestic and international travel packages. With sustainable tourism and community engagement in mind, the PTM only partners with reputable agencies and businesses.
Every year it is part of the expo’s mission to highlight new discoveries for travelers to explore, while also showcasing the best islands in the archipelago: from award-winning islands recognized around the world to cultural hotspots to experience the rich and vivid history and culture of Filipinos.
The expo layout showcases colored zones to identify each tourism product: Yellow Zone for MICE and Entertainment; Blue Zone for Beach, Cruise, and Marine Sports; Green Zone for Cultural and Agro/Farm/Eco-Tourism; and Pink Zone for Health, Wellness, and Culinary. Each zone is filled with information and offers from duly accredited tour and travel agencies, hotels and resorts, theme parks, airlines, as well as provincial and regional agencies.
“There are so many reasons to explore the Philippines and our ASEAN neighbors. We hope visitors will find amazing deals at PTM, as well as gain more knowledge about our own country. We have interactive booths highlighting Philippine regions and the biggest among them will be the Mindanao exhibition,” says Abling-Yu.
More packages in must-visit Asian destinations like Japan, China, and South Korea are also available at the expo.
Taking the expo to more high-tech and convenient heights, visitors can scan the QR codes of exhibitors to find their locations as well as conduct paperless transactions.
More tourism products from DOT
In her keynote speech, Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco emphasized her development plans for tourism products.
“The DoT is working on developing new regional tourism surveys that will highlight nature based tourism, MICE tourism, food and gastronomy, our heritage and culture, health and wellness, the arts and more. All these tourism dimensions will get equal promotion, attention and support as we expand ourselves from the traditional portfolio and go into multi-dimensional tourism,” she said.
To fortify DOT development plans, Sec. Frasco has enjoined Congress to triple the tourism budget.
The 33rd PTM is travel fair is co-presented by the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Promotions Board and supported by Diamond sponsor Bank of the Philippine Islands, Silver sponsor AirAsia, and Bronze sponsor Cebu Pacific.

After getting a heavy beating from the pandemic since April 2020 not to mention the fact that there had been zero revenue in the tourism industry of the country, with mitigated cases, availability of vaccines and established health protocols across all industries, travelers get ready for the 3Rs — Recover, Retreat, and Revenge. For us Filipinos, the pandemic taught us so many things and at the same time tested our endurance, and it will be elating to look back that we resiliently beat the odds. It prompted us all to observe utmost restraint, and adapt to the new way of living our daily life especially outside our homes with masks (and sadly, face shields!). While we are still in pain of losing some of our loved ones, and people we know who died of COVID-19, the tragic death that rocks the whole world taught us to evolve, innovate and adjust to beat the odds and turned them into opportunities.
With renewed hope, the tourism industry is gaining strength after lockdowns brought about by the pandemic, the Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA), Inc. announces the return of the Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) for its 33rd year.
The Philippine Tour Operators Association, Inc. (PHILTOA), an organization of tour operators and allied members actively involved in the advocacy of responsible tourism founded in 1986, aims to become the “leading inbound and domestic tourism association with global networks actively contributing to national economic growth” by forging “national and global affiliations and alliances with tourism-related associations and organizations… [and] providing members with dynamic and proactive education and training, product development, programs and fellowship [for] the common good of Philippine Tourism”. PHILTOA launched the Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) in 1994, under the initiative of the Department of Tourism, as a way to fulfill their mission and vision.
After a two-year hiatus, this year’s PTM theme is “Safe Travels”. With at least 70 million Filipinos fully vaccinated and tourism outlets welcoming foreign tourists, a safer and more relaxed environment awaits eager travelers looking for memorable tropical adventures. They call it “revenge travel”, a way to get back at isolation and boredom while responsibly exploring new trails or planning a much-awaited return to a beloved place.
“It is with great joy and excitement that we invite everyone to the biggest Philippine Travel Mart to date. We’ve been waiting for a long time and now is the perfect time to travel again, support local businesses, and explore the Philippines and beyond,” shares PHILTOA President Ms. Fe Abling-Yu.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The three-day travel expo starts on September 30th and will feature over 200 exhibitions from local and international participants showcasing exclusive domestic and international travel packages, some of which offer the best bang for every traveler’s buck.
With all regions of the Philippines participating in the three-day event, it is the best place to know more about the wonders of Luzon, the riches of Visayas, and the colors of Mindanao.
Local tourism is at the forefront of the expo with a zone designated for different offers: Yellow Zone for MICE and Entertainment; Blue Zone for Beach, Cruise, and Marine Sports; Green Zone for Cultural and Agro/Farm/Eco-Tourism; and Pink Zone for Health, Wellness, and Culinary. Each zone is bursting with information and offers from duly accredited tour and travel agencies, hotels and resorts, theme parks, airlines, as well as provincial and regional agencies.
“There are so many reasons to explore the Philippines and our ASEAN neighbors. We hope visitors will find amazing deals at PTM, as well as gain more knowledge about our own country. We have interactive booths highlighting Philippine regions and the biggest among them will be the Mindanao exhibition,” says Ms. Abling-Yu.
Travelers of all ages and budget levels will find something to explore at PTM with ASEAN tour packages in breathtaking Bali, historic Siem Reap, and bustling Ho Chi Minh. More packages in must-visit Asian destinations like Japan, China, and South Korea are also available at the expo.
Taking the expo to more high-tech and convenient heights, visitors can scan the QR codes of exhibitors to find their locations as well as conduct paperless transactions.
Whether you’re traveling for business or for leisure, solo or with a group, the Philippine Travel Mart will give you more reasons to pack those bags and go exploring.
MEET THE TRAVEL ADVOCATES
The 33rd Philippine Travel Mart is also proud to present the country’s top lifestyle influencers as the expo’s official Travel Advocates: gender equality activist and broadcast journalist, Queenmelo Esguerra; journalist and events specialist, Marbee Shing Go; Anton Diaz, one of the pioneers of the blogging community and founder of Our Awesome Planet; host and digital creator, Patty Laurel Filart; and TV/radio and events host, Sam YG.
“There’s just so much about Baguio and the Cordilleras that meets the eye. More than the tourist spots I got to visit in my childhood, Baguio is the perfect destination for different kinds of escape. The cold, the trees, the fog, the art all over the city, and the culture that’s evident in everyday life,” shares Marbee Shing Go, who grew up in Baguio and moved back home during the pandemic.
“The most unforgettable destination locally is our trips to Batanes. Exploring the island of Batan, the heritage sites of Sabang, and the remote island of Itbayat,” says Anton Diaz.
Sam YG shared how much he and his wife love beaches. And in the Philippines, we have a surplus of world-class beaches. His favorite destination is El Nido, with its pristine beaches and vibrant marine life, Cebu, as well as Panglao, Bohol, and of course, Boracay.
Patty Laurel-Filart loves traveling with her family and they hit beaches regularly. “The Philippines is such a gorgeous country. We are so blessed to be living here and local travel allows everything to be very accessible for all of us,” she shares. “Now when it comes to beaches, my recommendations of course would be Palawan, Boracay, but you should also check Siquijor and Mati, Davao Oriental, my mom’s hometown and it’s stunning there.”
Anton Diaz, who’s also an entrepreneur, gets his inspiration from his travels. “I always look forward to travel as an educational experience, to open my mind to new possibilities, to new opportunities, and it serves as an inspiration to me for my work and my business. This is actually where I get a lot of my new ideas for content or new businesses.”
Queenmelo Esguerra uses travel to broaden her perspective. “I have always considered traveling as my means of learning more about life. Travel allows me to know new cultures, experience new adventures, and meet new people.”
“Traveling does not have to be expensive… especially now that [there are so many deals] would allow you to visit our very own country, the Philippines, and explore 7,107 islands,” said Sam YG.
Patty Laurel Filart says it best: “There’s just so much to discover so much to explore in the Philippines. Local travel is the best gift you can give yourself.” And perhaps also the best gift you can give to your country.
The 33rd Philippine Travel Mart (PTM) is happening from September 30 to October 2, 2022 at the SMX Convention Center Manila (Halls 1 – 4), Seashell Lane, SM Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. The travel fair is co-presented by the Department of Tourism and the Tourism Promotions Board and supported by Diamond sponsor Bank of the Philippine Islands, Silver sponsor AirAsia, and Bronze sponsor Cebu Pacific.

Don’t Miss the Amazing Deals at This Year’s Biggest Travel Bazaar
Find great deals from hotels, airlines, and travel operators. by WindowSeat.ph | September 30, 2022
After two years of strict travel restrictions, the Philippine Travel Operators Association makes up for it in a big way by holding the biggest travel bazaar in the country–the 33rd Philippine Travel Mart. Slated this weekend, the event gathers 300 of the most prestigious and respected brands and institutions in the tourism, hospitality, and travel and tours industries under one roof. Occupying SMX Manila’s four grand event halls, PTM 2022 will feature dressed-up booths and pavilions representing the attractions, colors, and cultures of particular destinations, regions, resorts, and hotels.
For the first time, the country’s regions will be featured in their own pavilion, making a visit to the PTM a veritable tour of the entire Philippines. This gives visitors a chance to see the wide-ranging array of attractions that tourists and travelers can experience and enjoy throughout the country.
A tourism revival

The participation of the regions, namely, Ilocos Region (Region I), Cagayan Valley (Region 2), Central Luzon (Region 3), CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon – (Region 4‑A), MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan – Region 4-B), Bicol Region (Region 5), Western Visayas (Region 6), Central Visayas (Region 7), Eastern Visayas (Region 8), Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9), Northern Mindanao (Region 10), Davao Region (Region 11), SOCCSKSARGEN, (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos – Region 12), Caraga (Region 13), CAR (Cordillera Administrative Region), the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and the NCR, only signifies the dynamic revival of the country’s local tourism industry.
The PTM has always been a source of excitement for both local and international tourists seeking to explore and experience the beauty of the country’s more than 7,000 islands. In its last pre-pandemic staging, the PTM generated an astounding 53,000 in foot traffic and a total sales of P 60 million.
Revenge travel

This year, with “revenge” traveling in full swing after more than two years of strict travel protocols and lockdowns, more Filipino tourists can expect to discover more destinations to explore at this year’s PTM, with multiple options for all kinds of travel: Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Event (MICE), Entertainment, Cruises, Cultural and Agro/Farm/Eco-Tourism; and Health, Wellness, and Culinary.
In support of the PTM and the Philippine tourism industry in general, the Department of Tourism headed by Sec. Christina Garcia Frasco is seeking to increase the product portfolio available to both local and international tourists. In the official launch of the PTM, Sec. Frasco said, “The DoT is working on developing new regional tourism surveys that will highlight nature-based tourism, MICE tourism, food and gastronomy, our heritage and culture, health and wellness, the arts, and more. All these tourism dimensions will get equal promotion, attention, and support as we expand ourselves from the traditional portfolio and go into multi-dimensional tourism.”
For its part, PHILTOA promises a fun-filled travel bazaar that guarantees visitors an array of treats and surprises that have made the annual travel mart a much-anticipated event. “It is with great joy and excitement that we invite everyone to the biggest Philippine Travel Mart to date. We’ve been waiting for a long time and now is the perfect time to travel again, support local businesses, and explore the Philippines and beyond.
“There are so many reasons to explore the Philippines and our ASEAN neighbors. We hope visitors will find amazing deals at PTM, as well as gain more knowledge about our own country,” invites PHILTOA president Ms. Fe Abling-Yu.

CATBALOGAN CITY - Spark Samar unleashed its beauty and wonders at the largest and longest-running travel trade exhibition in the Philippines, the 33rd Philippine Travel Mart, at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City from September 30 to October 2, 2022.
The Provincial Government of Samar was one of the exhibitors under Infinite Escapes Eastern Visayas, remaining hungry in increasing prominence of local tourist attractions, attracting inbound tourism, and welcoming a more vibrant eco-tourism.
Spark Samar, the brainchild of Governor Sharee Ann Tan, not only trailed its path in escalating tourism efforts but deeply rooted its vision in achieving community transformation.
“At that time, [the Spark Samar program] was more on the destination, but we found that it is not only the destination that we can sell to the tourists. We have this century-old tradition of Banig weaving. It is a great help not only to the women weavers, but also our farmers. We are hitting not only tourism but also the artisan and the farmers' agriculture.“ Governor Sharee Ann Tan highlighted.
Governor Tan also added, "we want to position the Province of Samar as the next food destination and at the same time we want to preserve the heirloom recipes which have long been available even during the times of galleon trade."
To date, the collective dream of preaching Samar’s wonders has branched out into more focused goals, living by its promise of peace and progress for all of Samar.
Witness Samar’s wonders and visit the Eastern Visayas at the SMX Convention Center (Halls 1-4) from September 30 to October 2, 2022 (MMP/Samar PIO)
