Babar Azam again looks to pad it out but could not get his pad in line with ball. The turn takes the ball past his leg and smashes into the stumps. An error in judgement from him and Sri lanka have the breakthrough. Babar Azam stands there and just stares on the surface. All of a sudden, Sri Lanka are feeling pumped up.

Time will tell!  Prabath Jayasuriya has been superb from the start of the day and his effort has paid off. He serves a full ball, angling around middle and off. The ball stays low off the deck and straightens a bit. Mohammad Rizwan presses forward to defend but gets beaten on the inside edge and gets pinged on the pads. A massive appeal for LBW and up goes the finger. That looked plumb as Rizwan has been given LBW but he refers it upstairs. Ultra Edge shows no bat. Ball Tracking shows three reds and Mohammad Rizwan has to walk back. Pakistan still need 66 runs to reach the target.

Ramesh Mendis to Agha Salman, FOUR! More runs! Flatter and around off. Slaman reverse hits it to the vacant deep backward point. Prabath Jayasuriya runs from deep point but fails to stop it. Four runs.

Prabath Jayasuriya to Agha Salman, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Sri Lanka are still in the game! Jayasuriya serves a full ball from over the wicket and makes it to spin away from around off. Salman takes a big stride forward and tries to defend but fails to read the spin and gets an outside edge to the keeper, Niroshan Dickwella who takes it high to his right. Sri Lanka were convinced it was out. An appeal for caught behind and the finger goes up. Agha Salman takes the review. Ultra Edge shows a spike and Sri Lanka strike at the stroke of Lunch!

Dhananjaya de Silva to Hasan Ali, FOUR! Ali will always play aggressive cricket! A loopy ball, around off, turning in. Ali skips down and heaves it, not of the middle but over the mid-wicket fielder and in the gap for a boundary. 300 up for Pakistan.

Dhananjaya de Silva to Hasan Ali, OUT! TAKEN! Another one bites the dust! Sri Lanka are still hanging there! de Silva serves a length ball, around middle and spins down the leg side. Ali hangs on the back foot and gets low to slog-sweep it over deep square leg. The intent was right but not the execution as he fails to get enough distance and Maheesh Theekshana holds onto it. Pakistan need 39 more runs to win. Sri Lanka need 4 wickets.

Maheesh Theekshana to Mohammad Nawaz, FOUR! Pakistan are nearly there! Fatter and around leg. Nawaz sweeps it very gently but the outfield helps the ball to race away to the fine leg fence.

Prabath Jayasuriya to Abdullah Shafique, FOUR! Abdullah Shafique hits the winning runs! A brilliant match winning knock from the young man! Shorter and outside off. Abdullah Shafique gets on the back foot and slaps it to covers for a boundary. Pakistan win by 4 wickets and go 1-0 up in the series.

Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka 2022 Schedule Squad: Pakistan is set to tour Sri Lanka to play 2 match test series. Before the 2 match test series, Pakistan will play a 3 day warm-up match against Sri Lanka Board Presidents XI on July 11.

The Pakistan team will assemble in Islamabad on June 25 and will undergo a seven-day preparation camp at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. The Pakistan team will reach Sri Lanka on July 6.

Pakistan chief selector Muhammad Wasim in a statement “We have selected this squad considering the conditions in Sri Lanka and have equipped the team with the best possible resources.

Our spin department is boosted with the return of Yasir Shah, who proved himself as a match-winner in Sri Lanka on our last tour, and Sajid Khan has made way for him.

The spin department also includes two spin all-rounders in, Mohammad Nawaz and Salman Ali Agha and left-arm orthodox Nauman Ali. Salman Ali Agha has shown consistent performances with the bat in the past three seasons, and he is a handy off-spin option”. 

“Our team has recently put strong performances in Bangladesh, and although results against Australia were not ideal, we displayed solid cricket, and for that reason, we have retained the core to instill consistency and continuity and have trimmed the squad size following the relaxation in Covid-19-induced travel restrictions.

These two matches are extremely crucial for our side as we have World Test Championship points at stake. I wish our boys all the best, and I am sure they will make us proud,”  he added.

Notably, Pakistan senior spinner Yasir Shah has made his comeback after being sidelined following a thumb injury he sustained in the National T20 Cup last year.

From 2007 to 2024: List of all ICC T20 World Cup winners

There have been six different ICC T20 World Cup winners in nine editions so far.

The T20 World Cup was played for the first time in 2007. It is a global tournament that features the best teams across the world in the shortest format of international cricket.

The tournament showcases the best talents, producing breathtaking contests and extraordinary moments, which is why it has become fans’ favourite worldwide.

Six different teams have clinched the T20 World Cup title in the nine editions so far. Here we will talk about the list of winners of the T20 World Cups from the first edition in 2007 to the latest edition in 2024.

From 2007 to 2024: List of all T20 World Cup winners

1. 2007 t20 world cup – india.

After a horrible group-stage exit from the 2007 ODI World Cup, some senior Indian players backed away from participating in the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa. Then, MS Dhoni captained a young side and marched the team to the inaugural T20 world title.

India found new generational stars in that tournament. India beat Australia, England, and South Africa before beating Pakistan in the final. Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, RP Singh and Irfan Pathan were key contributors for India in the tournament.

2. 2009 T20 World Cup – Pakistan

Pakistan were unfortunate to lose the 2007 T20 World Cup final when Misbah-ul-Haq played the scoop shot. But they completed the unfinished business in 2009 and won the title under Younis Khan’s captaincy. It was played in England. Pakistan made it to the final despite losing to England and Sri Lanka in the Super 8, but they beat Sri Lanka in the final to win the trophy. Shahid Afridi and Umar Gul were Pakistan’s best performers in the competition.

3. 2010 T20 World Cup – England

England won their first-ever World Cup trophy in 2010 when Paul Collingwood led the team to win the T20 title in the West Indies. England started the tournament with a defeat against the hosts. But, then they went all out in every game and applied a fearless approach. They didn’t lose a game after that. The Three Lions beat Australia in the final to lift the trophy. Kevin Pietersen, Craig Kieswetter, and Graeme Swann were key players for England in the competition.

4. 2012 T20 World Cup – West Indies

The 2012 T20 World Cup was held in Sri Lanka. West Indies started the tournament with a defeat against Australia, but they gathered themselves and played as a formidable unit from then. They faced the hosts, Sri Lanka, in the final in Colombo and went on to win it.

Darren Sammy became one of the few West Indian captains to lead his country to an ICC title. Marlon Samuels was the key performer for West Indies in that tournament and in the final.

5. 2014 T20 World Cup – Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka were a consistent team in the first few editions of the T20 World Cup. They made it to the final thrice in the first five editions. Unfortunately, they lost the first two, but they were third-time lucky. It was Lasith Malinga who led them to success in the 2014 final against India. The tournament was held in Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka lost only one game in the group stage against England. They faced Dhoni-led India in the final and won it with ease. Ajantha Mendis, Kumar Sangakkara, and Malinga were the key performers for the Lankans.

6. 2016 T20 World Cup – West Indies

West Indies were not able to defend the title in 2014 as they lost the semi-final. But Sammy led them to their second T20 World Cup title in 2016, which was held in India. West Indies played good cricket throughout the tournament and met England in the final. England had the game in their hands, and they had 21 runs to defend in the final over. However, Carlos Braithwaite hit Ben Stokes for four consecutive sixes in the last over to help West Indies win their second title. West Indies became the first team to become two-time T20 World Cup winners.

7. 2021 T20 World Cup – Australia

The next edition was held after a gap of five years in 2021. In the UAE, Australia won their first T20 World Cup title under Aaron Finch’s captaincy. Australia had a thrilling semi-final against Pakistan when Matthew Wade hit three consecutive sixes off Shaheen Afridi to win the match. Then, in the final, they faced New Zealand and beat them to lift the trophy. David Warner and Adam Zampa were Australia’s best performers in the competition.

8. 2022 T20 World Cup – England

A total of 16 teams took part in the 2022 edition, which was held in Australia. England suffered a setback at the start when they lost a rain-hit game against Ireland. But, then they bounced back and went on to win all their remaining games, including the final. They had a thumping 10-wicket win in the semi-final against India. Then, they beat Pakistan in the final. Jos Buttler, Alex Hales, Ben Stokes, and Sam Curran were the best performers for England in the tournament.

England became second team after the West Indies to become two-time T20 World Cup winners.

9. 2024 T20 World Cup – India

The winners of the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup, India ended their wait after 17 years as they won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. They won the title defeating South Africa in a cracker of a final by seven runs. Before this, they hadn’t won an ICC trophy since 2013. But in 2024, they did it in a grand way by winning the T20 World Cup undefeated.

On the course, they became third team after the West Indies and England to win the ICC T20 World Cup twice.

India (2007).

In 2007, South Africa's Wanderers Stadium saw India secure victory against Pakistan, led by MS Dhoni, with India scoring 157/5 and winning by 5 runs.

Pakistan (2009)

In 2009 at Lord's, London, Pakistan, captained by Younis Khan, triumphed over Sri Lanka with a score of 139/2, winning by 8 wickets.

England (2010)

The 2010 final at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, saw England, under Paul Collingwood, defeat Australia by 7 wickets.

West Indies (2012)

In 2012, at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, West Indies, captained by Daren Sammy, won by 36 runs against Sri Lanka, who scored 101 all out.

Sri Lanka (2014)

Sri Lanka claimed victory in 2014 at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Dhaka, against India, led by Lasith Malinga, winning by 6 wickets.

West Indies (2016)

In 2016, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, West Indies won by 4 wickets against England, led again by Daren Sammy.

Australia (2021)

The 2021 final at Dubai International Stadium saw Australia, led by Aaron Finch, win by 8 wickets against New Zealand.

England (2022)

Most recently, in 2022 at Melbourne Cricket Ground, England, under Jos Buttler, won by 5 wickets against Pakistan.
