Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned camper, a little extra comfort goes a long way.

Our ultralight teardrop campers make for far simpler living, empowering adventurers to live hassle-free to focus on what matters most: the experience.

Our campers cater to people from all walks of life, from the solo rock climber to the family of five looking for that perfect spot by the lake.

Small campers are more versatile than vans, allowing you not to have to break camp to take your car exploring.

Updated Tallboy Configurations

Updated Tallboy Configurations

It's official, our newest model The Tallboy stand in Teardrop is now our best-selling model of 2024. Our customers are loving the idea of a lightweight Teardrop Camper you can stand in with an Outdoor Galley kitchen. We've built twenty so far and have drilled it down to the three best interior cabin configuration we suggest. Option one is our standard build with a Full Size 70.5"x54" back bed and two 70"x27" bunks that convert to couch. Option two has a 81"x70.5" California King Size back bed that slides back to open up the floor space and two 70"x27" bunks that convert to a couch. Option three is for couples with no need for kid accommodations equipped with a slide back California King and fixed loveseat. All our builds are custom so just let us know if we can do anything extra for you. Our lead times are still quite good for peak season, orders we're getting this week are projected to be completed late August. Click on the "buy" page and fill out the customizer to start your Bend Teardrop build.

Towable Sauna

Towable Sauna

Our first pass at a Towable Sauna. We built a mobile sauna out of Western Red Cedar, it's equipped with a 12v 35amp battery and 100 watts rooftop solar panel to power what I believe to be its best feature, a backlit Himalayan Salt wall course. It's ultra lightweight and off road ready! Drag it to the lake for some cold dips or up to the ski resort for a Apres Steam. This woodstove heated towable sauna gets hot in minutes anywhere you want to bake. They're now available for purchase or rent! Check out www.saltsaun.com for more info.

We took the New Bend Teardrop 6x12 Tallboy out to the snow for it's first snow camp mission. It's lightweight frame towed with ease over 10 plus inches of fresh snow. We changed easily in the stand up mud room, played in the snow, made a big fire and reheated home made chili in the pop up outdoor galley kitchen. Once it got late the whole family retired into our fully insulated propex heated cabin and slept like champs.

WHY BEND TEARDROP?

A better way to enjoy the great outdoors.

All our teardrop camp trailers are built on high-clearance, heavy-duty steel “overland style” trailer bases with 15″ wheels, full-size tires, and “step-on” load-bearing fenders. Fully insulated from floor-to-ceiling, our teardrop trailers stay toasty in the winter and cool in the summer. The undercarriage is lined with aluminum for a long-lasting 360 degree watertight seal. Each teardrop trailer has a pop-up galley kitchen in the back with partitioned shelving, 2 gallon water tank, sink, pop-up counter, under-counter storage, LED lighting, voltage meter, and USB charging station.

Each insulated cabin comes with two doors and tinted screened slider windows, a powered 10 speed 2 way max fan roof vent, a porthole window, interior LED lighting, and a porch LED lights. Powered by a 12V 35 amp deep cycle battery, our trailers will typically last 3-5 days on a single charge. If you opt for the rooftop solar option (highly recommended) you’ll rarely need to charge the battery!

Our models include an ultra-lite 950lb 5×8 option, a 1,200lb 5×10 built for couples or young families, and the rugged 1,750lb 6×12 built for families of four plus or campers who want one of the largest low profile Teardrops ever made.

Farewell Media

We dreamed of spending our retirement on epic road trips. After buying an RV backfired, we made a better plan.

  • My husband and I dreamed of getting a camper van and going on epic road trips during our retirement.
  • The van was small, upkeep was costly, and the experience was not as great as we'd imagined .
  • We recently sold the van, and we realized we could still do road trips without it.

Insider Today

My husband and I had always talked about getting a camper van and taking it on epic road trips after we retired.

When I finally joined him in retirement last year, a van seemed to fall into our laps. We were at a car show and spotted a compact camper van from the '90s that was well within our budget.

It had all the features we thought we needed, including a generator and kitchen space. Thinking it was fate, we bought it on sight.

The camper van seemed perfect until we actually used it. We recently sold it after months of trying and failing to make it work for us.

I was really sad at first, but we learned a lot — and realized we don't have to give up our road-trip dreams just yet.

The camper van just didn't fit our needs — or bodies

The first time we took the camper van out, we stayed overnight in a cousin's driveway to see a nearby concert.

We ended up sleeping for only a few hours in the van. It felt tight, and we didn't rest well, but we attributed our sleepless night to excitement and thought we just needed to get used to everything.

Our second outing the following week was the true test. We attended a four-day music festival with no access to running water or electricity. Our camper van was fuller this time, stuffed with things like a large cooler, a grill, a big water jug, lounger chairs, and our duffle bags.

The tiny space felt jam-packed. We found ourselves continuously moving our belongings outside so we could have space to hang out inside the camper van and then bringing them back inside so they wouldn't get stolen while we were out watching performances.

Though I'm only 5 feet tall, I found myself bumping my head on the top storage cupboards. My 6-foot-tall husband couldn't stand up straight in the van.

Related stories

We also discovered the van had several issues the sellers hadn't been transparent about, including a broken generator and microwave. I wished we hadn't just trusted their word and had checked the van thoroughly before buying it.

Even so, the costs of upkeep went up as we added mileage to the camper van. Plus, we had to pay for insurance and figure out where to store it when it wasn't in use.

We'll still do road trips, but we're not tying ourselves to a big vehicle

In the end, it didn't make sense for us to tie money up in a vehicle we'd use only a few times a year.

We sold the camper van to another couple, and we were up front about all its issues. Even after replacing the van's tires, airbags, and windshields, we managed to recoup our investment.

After doing some math, we realized we didn't need a camper van to do the road trips we dreamed of. We just need to be a little creative with our planning.

For now, we plan to just drive our car and book cheaper accommodations that come with free breakfasts. We'll also save money on the road by preparing our own lunches and snacks and packing them in a cooler.

Hopefully our camper van suits the new owners better than it did us — and maybe we'll cross paths on the road sometime.
