MSC Cruises Is Offering Travel Advisors Bonus Commission on All Sailings

MSC Cruises Travel Agent Comission Bonus

Photo: MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises is continuing to add to its outreach to the travel trade with a new 10% bonus commission on all sailings.

The promotion is available for all bookings made by U.S.-based travel advisors between June 2 and July 31 for sailings through May 31, 2023. It also includes all bookings made with future cruise credits.

In a statement, MSC Cruises USA’s new EVP and CCO Lynn Torrent, said that the line took inspiration from a recent, similar promotion on MSC Divina that has been “ a win-win for travel advisors and our guests.”

“Today we’re doubling down on that by expanding the bonus commission across the fleet and throughout our World of Discovery. We’re going above and beyond to demonstrate our commitment to our travel advisors. The expanded bonus commission gives them the tools they need to help our guests explore the world while enjoying the relaxation, sophistication, and international flair MSC Cruises is famous for,” she said.

MSC also recently revamped its MSC Voyagers Club loyalty program, adding a new range of benefits including fare savings and early-bird reward points.

Among the range of benefits is a minimum discount of 5% for all members on any cruise booked at any time. This replaces the former Voyages Selection feature, which offered savings on only a select number of itineraries.

Cruisers who book further in advance will get special perks. Those who book any sailing at least six months prior to departure will receive a further 5% discount. And, Silver-, Gold-, and Diamond-tier members who book at least nine months ahead of sailing will receive yet another 5% discount, plus $50 shipboard credit.

And, all members who book any MSC Cruises sailing at least 12 months before departure will receive double reward points.

MSC Cruises launches ‘biggest ever’ cruise giveaway for travel agents

MSC Cruises has welcomed guests on board MSC Seashore, the line's first Seaside EVO ship.

MSC Cruises has unveiled the MSC Big Cruise Giveaway, which will see the line award a cruise every day in January 2022.

A total of 62 seven night cruises for two people will be given away throughout the month – 31 cruises for UK agents and 31 for Irish agents.

Agents will spend seven nights in a balcony cabin on a cruise-only basis on board a ship of their choice, to be taken before 31 March 2022.

Agents could chose to visit MSC Seashore in the Caribbean, explore the Red Sea on board MSC Bellissima or take in the sights of Dubai on MSC Virtuosa . The first cruise prize draw will be made on 1 January 2022.

The incentive is part of the line’s all-inclusive wave promotion, which runs until 31 March 2022.

The deal will see drinks included on all sailings departing January 2022 to November 2022 in the Caribbean, Emirates, Red Sea, and Mediterranean.

Cruises departing from Southampton on MSC Magnifica , from January to April 2022, and MSC Virtuosa , from April to October 2022, are also included.

MSC Cruises will also continue to run the MSC Agents League, which gives agents the chance to win prizes as part of the line’s partnership with Chelsea FC.

MSC Cruises UK & Ireland director of sales Steve Williams said: “We are thrilled to be launching our biggest ever promotion, which will give 62 agents from the UK & Ireland the chance to sail on board one of our amazing ships.

“We are hoping that offering these seven-night prize sailings, coupled with award-winning ships and amazing itineraries, is the incentive agents need to really drive those bookings in January.

“We have had great success with the MSC Agents League, which will continue throughout next year but the Big Cruise Giveaway gives us the opportunity to take those incentives one step further and offer agents an amazing holiday experience.”

TRAVEL AGENTS SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES ON BOARD MSC GRANDIOSA IN NEW VIDEO TESTIMONIAL

Travel agents provide feedback from msc grandiosa on the health and safety measures as well as life on board msc safe bubble cruises give guests the confidence to enjoy a stress-free, unforgettable cruise holiday.

Geneva, Switzerland, 14 January 2021 - Since MSC Grandiosa welcomed guests back on board in mid-August, MSC Cruises has welcomed more than 30,000 guests on board, including many travel agents from across Europe and the Company has released a video testimonial from some of these agents sharing first-hand their experiences.

The feedback has been extremely positive, with agents describing their experience ‘impressive’ and saying that they felt ‘very safe,’ thanks to the protocol, which is implemented by a friendly and professional crew. But more importantly, the cruise experience has been preserved so that guests and agents alike, can enjoy life on board whether that is watching one of the productions in the theatre, dining in the many different restaurants, relaxing in the spa or simply strolling down the Promenade whilst enjoying the different shops and boutiques.  One of the agents emphatically stated, ‘I recommend a cruise to everyone. Cruise, cruise, cruise on board MSC Cruises!’

MSC Cruises is offering guests a safe and stress-free holiday by creating a safe bubble on board their ships, through the implementation of an industry-leading health and safety protocol.

The health and safety measures cover every aspect of the guest experience including COVID-19 testing prior to embarkation and mid-cruise, discovering destinations with protected shore excursions, enhanced sanitation of the ships and best-practices in personal hygiene, social distancing through reduced capacity and managed guest flow, the wearing of masks in public areas, ventilation of the ship with 100% fresh air, all of which is supported by highly-trained crew to put the measures into practice.

All of these measures and more, enable MSC Cruises to create a safe bubble for guests, putting the health of guests, crew and the communities we visit as the number one priority. This gives MSC Cruises guests the confidence they need to be able to unwind, relax and enjoy and unforgettable holiday.

HEALTH AND SAFETY MEASURES

The overall feedback is that agents felt incredibly safe on board and they have been impressed with the high level of the health and safety measures, as well as their impeccable implementation. ‘Finally, we can start travelling again safely!’ was the feedback from one of the agents.

When describing the onboard health measures an agent said, ‘I’m really impressed,’ specifically with regards to the many health measures, such as the hand sanitising stations, the regular hand washing, the temperature taking and the use of face masks worn by guests and crew.

These measures are in addition to a set of extensive measures that start from the moment a guest books includes universal testing of all guests prior to embarkation, ventilation of the ship with HVAC, social distancing and contact tracing.

SHORE EXCURSIONS

No cruise would be complete without shore excursions to discover the varied destinations to which the ship sails. As an added level of protection, all visits ashore are organised through an MSC Cruises protected excursion, in order to maintain a ship “social bubble” and deliver the same high standards of health and safety ashore as on board. In practice, this means that during an MSC Cruises shore excursion, transfers are properly sanitised and that there is adequate space to socially distance, tour guides and drivers will have undergone health screening before serving guests and will wear appropriate PPE as well as having vetted and carefully checked all of the attractions and places that the guests will visit to ensure that these also offer a safe and hygienic environment.

A POSITIVE ONBOARD EXPERIENCE

An MSC Cruises holiday has always been characterised by the richness of the guest experience underpinned by the highest quality service. ‘I’m very happy to be back on board a cruise ship. Even though there are many security measures in place, you get a bit of normality back,’ commented an agent.

The atmosphere on board, gives a welcome escape from the stress of the pandemic on land, with the agents recommending cruising with MSC Cruises and one agent described the feeling of ‘a bubble of happiness. I don’t want to leave and I’m very eager to return soon.’

MSC Cruises was the first major cruise line to return to operations in Europe, supported by the implementation of a rigorous comprehensive health and safety protocol that has been developed in collaboration with external medical experts and formally approved by the relevant national and regional authorities in Italy, Malta and Greece. The Company has strengthened its industry leading health and safety protocol in line in response to the evolving pandemic ashore. These measures include:

  • Additional onboard testing for all guests, mid-way through their cruise (on top of the existing pre-boarding universal testing for all guests)
  • Testing of all crew during their time on board is increased from twice-a-month to weekly (in addition to pre-boarding testing for all crew and other ongoing health monitoring measures)
  • Increased frequency of onboard sanitation, in particular of public areas and high touch points
  • Tightening of the definition of close contact for tracing purposes, reducing the time that individuals are in contact from 15 minutes to 10 minutes

MSC Grandiosa will continue to offer a 7-night itinerary in the Western Mediterranean until the end of March 2021, visiting many of Italy’s most famed destinations, calling at the Italian ports of Genoa, Civitavecchia, and Palermo, as well as Valetta, Malta. While MSC Magnifica offers 10-night cruises covering the West and Eastern Mediterranean from 14 February 2021 calling the Italian ports of Genoa, Livorno for Florence and Messina in Sicily, the Greek ports of Piraeus for Athens and Katakolon for Olympia, Valletta in Malta,  and Civitavecchia for Rome .

Is it better to book a cruise through a travel agent? We say yes

Fran Golden

Going online to book an airline ticket or hotel stay is a familiar and fairly easy transaction. When you book a cruise, however — particularly your first cruise — you might want to reconsider the impulse to handle the transaction yourself through a cruise line website or an online advertiser with cheap prices. This DIY approach might not be the best way to find your dream vacation at sea.

In reality, it's not that simple to book a cruise. You will likely run into a lot of questions to which you have no ready answer.

That's where specialized cruise travel agents come into play. Their expertise can help you avoid mistakes, whether you are a first-timer or a repeat cruiser checking out a brand you have not tried before.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Why you should book through a cruise travel agent

You should consider booking a cruise through a travel agent because a knowledgeable agent can help you understand the nuances of a cruise purchase and help you make the best decisions for your vacation preferences.

When you book a cruise, you are making a vacation decision that goes way beyond a flight or hotel nights. Which ship you choose determines your dining and evening entertainment choices for the duration of your vacation. Which itinerary you choose impacts which destinations you'll visit and which shoreside activities will be available to you. It can be overwhelming to evaluate the options on your own if you've never cruised before.

msc free travel agent cruise

In addition, cruise fares can be hard to understand and compare. You might, for instance, see a fare listed online without the port charges, taxes and fees, which you only see after you give your personal details.

Plus, the price of your cruise includes accommodations, meals, entertainment and activities — and in some cases drinks, tips, shore excursions, Wi-Fi and other extras. There's a lot bundled into some fares and not as much with others. A travel agent can help you determine what your cruise fare gets you. The cheapest base cruise fare does not always provide the best value or best overall vacation deal.

Related: 4 scenarios when you should use a travel agent

You aren't just booking general passage on a ship, either, as you will be asked to pick a specific cabin and when you prefer to dine. Making a mistake in these categories can ruin your cruise experience, as there are such thing as "bad" cabins and dining times (think noisy or claustrophobic cabins, dinner at 8 p.m. with cranky children, etc.).

With cruises, you typically don't pay for your whole vacation upfront but rather put down a deposit, with final payment due at a later date. A cruise travel agent can ensure you don't miss any due dates.

Remember, you might be a DIY type when booking airlines and hotels, but booking a cruise is more complex. If you enjoy doing your own research, focus on what to do and see in the ports of call. Read about different ships, cruise lines and itineraries. However, when it comes to booking the cruise, we recommend you still contact a travel agent who specializes in cruises to help you learn a few tips and avoid any rookie mistakes.

Travel agents can get better deals on cruises

If you're concerned that working with an agent will make your cruise more expensive, don't be. Cruise travel agents receive the bulk of their income via commission from the cruise lines. Their service to you is usually free, though some might charge first-time clients a minimal fee. It's worth it.

In addition to sharing their expertise, the agent may have negotiated group space at lower rates with the cruise line, which could save you money on the cruise fare. The agent might also have first access to sale prices because the cruise lines notify their agent partners and loyalty club members first before they announce a sale to the public.

Some cruise travel agents even throw in booking perks , such as a complimentary bottle of Champagne, awaiting your arrival in your cabin.

How to find a travel agent for a cruise

Cruise lines prefer that you use a travel agent rather than going online and booking directly. They have small in-house reservation teams, and when you have a question while making a booking, good luck in getting an expert on the phone in a timely manner.

Companies such as Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line provide online directories to help you find an experienced cruise travel agent near you.

msc free travel agent cruise

You can also find experienced and certified cruise travel agents through CLIA, the Cruise Lines International Association , which is the industry's main marketing group. Asking friends who have cruised to recommend a travel agent is another good idea.

Related: 5 unexpected places that sell cruises

You might get more personalized care from smaller agencies than from the huge online agencies, though websites such as icruise.com, Cruise.com and Cruise411.com also have experienced cruise agents. These larger online travel agencies can be a good option for those who prefer to make decisions and ask questions via chat. Just make sure you get the name and phone number of the representative for any follow-up questions.

Questions to ask a cruise travel agent

In choosing a cruise travel agent, you will want to tap into the person's specific expertise about the cruise line and ship you are considering. Anyone can read a ship deck plan outlining ship spaces (which you can find online), but you are looking for people who really know their stuff.

Look for travel agencies that are cruise-only or a home-based agent who specializes in cruises. If you are using a full-service travel agency, ask for the cruise desk.

Here are some questions to ask a travel agent to determine their expertise:

  • How often do you cruise?
  • Have you cruised on the line I am considering?
  • Have you cruised on the ship that I am considering, or do you have clients who have cruised that ship and provided a review of their vacation?
  • Do you have firsthand knowledge about the cruise destination? The itinerary?

You will also want to ask the travel agent if they have a preferred relationship or negotiated agreement with any specific lines that could lead to special perks for you.

Be aware that not all agents work with all cruise lines; some represent only a few preferred suppliers or specialize in higher-end cruises. They get bigger commissions from their preferred lines.

This is not necessarily a bad thing, but be aware if the agent seems to be putting you off the line you were originally considering, as this could be the reason. On the plus side, an agent who is a preferred supplier might have negotiated rates with the cruise line and be able to call in favors, such as that bottle of Champagne or a cabin upgrade .

msc free travel agent cruise

You should also ask if the travel agency offers 24/7 assistance (usually an 800 number) in case you have last-minute questions or something goes wrong before or during your trip.

The cruise travel agent should have questions for you as well, to better understand your dream vacation desires. If you are calling a cruise agency for the first time, the agent should be interviewing you as much as you are interviewing him or her. The agent should be focused on helping you choose the cruise line , ship and cabin that is right for you. Making the correct choices is very important to your overall cruise experience.

Bottom line

Booking a cruise is a complex enterprise. A cruise travel agent will guide you through choosing your cabin and dining times, deposits and final payment, and options for shore excursions and specialty dining. If you need to cancel the trip, the agent will also help you through the refund process. You'll have a lot less stress before and during your vacation if you book with an experienced agent.

TTG - Travel Trade Gazette

New to TTG?

Msc's antonio paradiso: 'we're in a golden age for cruise'.

MSC Group international sales vice-president shares his reasons for optimism, including the key role travel agents continue to play in the company’s success, with TTG’s Harry Kemble.

eCard

Asked whether cruise supply is currently outstripping demand, Antonio Paradiso is unequivocal. “We’re far from overcapacity – we’re right in the middle of a golden age for cruise,” he tells TTG .

The answer from MSC Group’s international sales vice-president will be music to agents’ ears as they attempt to fill the sector’s ever-increasing European and UK-based fleets this summer and beyond.

Paradiso’s optimism isn’t without basis; he’s well placed to comment after, earlier this year, being handed the role of global sales chief for MSC Group, which operates 24 ships across two brands – MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys.

So, besides heading up MSC and Explora in the UK and Ireland, he’s also now responsible for international markets including Australia, South Africa and Scandinavia.

How, then, is the UK and Irish market faring compared with these new regions falling under Paradiso’s remit? “I’m pleased to say it’s in the top five globally – it’s gone up two places in the past 18 months,” he reveals.

Although Paradiso declines to say where exactly it sits in the pecking order, he suggests it’s pulling its weight alongside MSC’s larger source markets like Italy and the US.

“In 2018, we didn’t have a ship sailing from the UK – now we have a ship here all year round,” he says. “That’s all part of the incredible story we’ve created with our travel agents. We just need to keep doing more in the future. There’s always going to be more opportunities for both the trade and customers [in the UK].”

Paradiso argues market competition is “always good because it pushes you to do more and do better”. “The cruise industry is not one where you reflect,” he reasons.

“You have to think about what you can do next. Demand is strong, and now Asia has fully reopened, and many emerging markets are falling in love with cruising, we need more capacity.”

Paradiso confirms MSC Cruises is seeing “double-digit” growth in “mature” cruise markets like the UK and Ireland. However, he admits other cruise companies’ experiences “may be different”.

Paradiso says strong sales performance encouraged his bosses to expand his remit back in January. “Every two to three years, I hope to get a new challenge,” he says. “But I’ve never pitched for anything in my whole life – [the promotion] was based on merit and performance.”

He believes the wider MSC Group can benefit following his promotion. “We thought it was an opportunity to enhance our organisation and the right thing to support our growth,” he says, noting how he sits at “a corporate” level as well as “a local” one, which means he gets “the best of both worlds”.

Paradiso confirms that despite his loftier position, he keeps in regular touch with agency bosses around the UK and Ireland, adding: “You always need to keep your ears to the ground in my position and make sure everything is fit for purpose.”

Brand synergies

Launched last July, Explora Journeys – MSC’s ultra-luxury sister line – is a very different proposition, but Paradiso insists they can learn from each other. MSC Cruises’ latest vessel, MSC Euribia, can carry more than 6,000 passengers, while Explora Journeys’ Explora I has capacity for 922 passengers.

“It was interesting to go from a much larger operation to a more niche one,” he explains. “My Explora Journeys role helps me create itineraries for MSC. Explora I has the ability, for instance, to visit less well-known ports in places like Norway and Iceland. I hadn’t really thought about this before.

“In June 2026, MSC Virtuosa will sail a new Iceland itinerary, which has an overnight call in Reykjavik and calls into Akureyri and Isafjordur too. We didn’t have such an itinerary before for MSC. There are synergies that are useful for both brands.”

MSC and Travel Agents?

Cool Cruiser

We cruised on the Divina several years ago and enjoyed ourselves.  My husband heard an advertisement with some excellent sales prices that included alcohol for the Caribbean.  So I contacted our regular BIG online TA, who says they do not book MSC.

Then I looked at the online site for the big box store.  Their cruise department does not list MSC either.  Then I looked at another large TA site, and it does not list MSC either.

Has MSC stopped participating with agents?

Thanks.  I just found one of the big online agencies that still does.

MSC will work with agents, but several of the US agencies refuse to work with MSC. MSC has more than the norm issues with lack of consistent policies, long wait times on the phone, low customer service rankings, a website that operates below industry standards (and that bar is low), etc.. All things which make dealing with MSC less profitable as a time investment is often required.

Obviously there are still US based agencies that will work with MSC and, as you discovered, it just takes a bit of digging. I like the MSC product as long as it is priced appropriately, but US consumers would be wise to know what they are getting.

This isn't a slam on MSC, just the facts which are something to be aware of.

I'm from north America :).

thanks for the explanation.  Mind sharing what more detail about what I highlighted above?  (As I said, it's been 5-6 years since we did the Divina.)

Nothing more than you read in the reviews on a daily basis. You've sailed Divina so you have a very good handle on things. The most typical complaints seem to center around MSC's inability to resolve conflict, inconsistent policies, lack of customer service, and some from NA seem to think it's too "european".

Personally, I enjoy MSC very much and had two good experiences. I would sail on them again as long as they are priced less than the nearest competition.  All dollars being equal, MSC would not be my choice. I consider MSC's best asset is it's value.

Thanks

Happy Cruiser 6143

My TA has booked me with MSC twice and says I'm on my own after this.  She says they are an absolute nightmare to deal with and the amount of time it takes is unreal.  I imagine other agents feel the same way.

Our 4th MSC cruise coming up.  We've always booked through a specific agent.  She has said repeatedly that they are the WORSE line to deal with.  Long phone wait, inconsistent information, etc.

Sancho_proudfoot

Even over this side of the pond in the UK, our cruise-specialist TA told me she would have to call me back once she "eventually" got things sorted with MSC.

My very large on line agency does book MSC.

My travel agent has told me at the time of our first MSC cruise that there can be problems dealing with MSC ahead of time, but the on board experience is top notched.

He was right and we have been repeat customers of the line.

Of course, we seem to the somewhere rare US cruiser who understand there is a whole world outside Nowhere, USA with different customs, languages, and food.

You can't seriously believe that the primary reason  US travel agencies refuse to sell MSC has to do with NA client expectations?  I honestly don't know of any other cruise line that TA's refuse to work with.

I certainly can't speak for all TA's but I can speak for my favorite (who refuses to sell anymore MSC even if she loses commission): Her rational revolves around  excessive wait times, inconsistent information, and a high frustration levels trying to resolve issues. I believe the final straw for her was the issue when her client got the "compromised passport documentation' letter.

In addition, MSC's the only cruise line I am aware of with a F rating at the BBB which should cause pause to even the most loyal fan.

Please understand, I'm not a MSC hater. At the right price point, it's a lovely option.  But I'm not one to turn a blind eye to some of the potential pitfalls.

Nowhere in my post did I say this.

I just said that we might be happy as MSC cruisers because we know that customs, languages, and food can be different than in the USA.

I would love to know about F rating with BBB . Plus I work with huge USA agency and they have no problem to book MSC .

Our travel agent had no issue booking our last cruise with MSC except for long phone wait times. Being a professional she did not gripe about it just stated she would call me back when she reached them rather than my holding online. We had a great cruise and plan to book another one with MSC.

I did look at BBB and saw many complaints which were resolved and not shared online. It could be anything and may not be a large issue. Some people use BBB as a resource for issues that they may handle on their own but prefer having a larger known entity take care of it for them.

There are agents who will assist you both online and in person. No, I am not a travel agent nor have I wanted to be one.

Haha

5 hours ago, GOLDENBONNY said: OMG I just had a pleasure to read those complaints. LOL it's amazing how many idiots on Earth.  😅

I started reading the BBB reports months ago and can say without a doubt that all the mainstream cruise lines get similar complaints. I also agree that they are quite comical to read.

However; that begs the question I am left pondering: "Why is it that MSC is the only cruise line with a failing BBB rating?"   Certainly they don't have more idiots sailing with them than the other lines!

Carnival = A+

PRincess = A

Celebrity = A-

Oceana = A-

Holland = C

While BBB ratings probably mean very little to the average cruiser, my understanding is that a BBB rating is based on how a company is willing to resolve issues.  If so, it's relevant information to share with cruisers.

To tie the BBB discussion back to the tenets of this particular thread: If MSC is the only cruise line with a failing BBB rating and they are also are (or appear to be) the only cruise line that some travel agents refuse to sell, what relationship exists between the two variables~ Correlation or Causal?

No harm intended to those who remain loyal to MSC, but I would hope other cruise enthusiasts also find the discussion interesting at the very least.

Bossa Nova

As with sports cars, thoroughbreds, and opera, Italy has a cruise line that combines extreme enjoyment with disappointment. Fortunately, our Orlando-based TA has the intestinal fortitude to obtain our requested cabins and provide advance notice of MSC product changes such as the offerings on the repeatedly-delayed opening of Ocean Cay.

Stockjock

I wrote an earlier post called MSC Comedy of Errors, which you can search for here or Google, that details many of the frustrating experiences I went through in dealing with MSC customer service.  I can't tell you how many calls I had to make or how much time I spent on the phone trying to resolve many, many issues. Granted, I'm not a travel agent and this was a direct booking.  But I am an experienced cruiser, and I found the whole experience very, very time consuming and frustrating. I can certainly understand why a travel agent wouldn't want to deal with this sort of thing.  The compensation may not make up for the time spent sorting things out in some instances.

      10 hours ago, BermudaBound2014 said: No harm intended to those who remain loyal to MSC, but I would hope other cruise enthusiasts also find the discussion interesting at the very least.

I find discussions on the boards filled with information and also sometimes not. I take all I read with a grain of salt and make up my own mind. Over the years I have found that no one cruise line has earned my total loyalty per se but I sail a ship for the itinerary or something I wish to try out on a certain trip. I do know initially there were many complaints about MSC, and I remind myself that they are based primarily in Europe and recently branching out. No worries and certainly no harm is done when one expresses their own opinion.

1 hour ago, Fogfog said: Under which BBB is this found?   Any updates on Ocean Cay? I did some sleuthing recently and found he history of this man made island (formerly a mining operation) fascinating

Better Business Report profiles are found under the location that the company is headquartered in the United States. I thought that the BBB was a United States watchdog organization and as far as I know, they only have one primary location for each company.

A general search including "_____ cruises BBB report" will take you to the placeholder for each line.

RCL = A+ (Miami)

NCL = A + (Miami)

Carnival = A+ (Miami)

Costa = A (Hollywood, Fl)

Princess = A (Los Angeles)

Celebrity = A- (Miami)

Oceana = A- (Miami)

Holland = C  (Seattle)

MCS = F (Fort Lauderdale)

Certainly the BBB shouldn't be the only factor in deciding which cruise line to sail.  I find it interesting that MSC is in the bottom of the pack. Even Costa has managed an "A" rating.

I thought that the BBB was a United States watchdog organization and as far as I know, they only have one primary location for each company.   A general search including "_____ cruises BBB report" will take you to the placeholder for each line.    RCL = A+ (Miami) NCL = A + (Miami) Carnival = A+ (Miami) Costa = A (Hollywood, Fl) Princess = A (Los Angeles) Celebrity = A- (Miami) Oceana = A- (Miami) Holland = C  (Seattle) MCS = F (Fort Lauderdale)   Certainly the BBB shouldn't be the only factor in deciding which cruise line to sail.

Aren't cruise lines are flagged outside US... ?

Not certain what maritime laws provide nor do I claim to understand the  contract of carriage etc. It would never occur to me to complain to the BBB about a cruise issue

I highly doubt the A+ ratings as much as I doubt the F,  Spent too much time here on CC !

Mainstream cruise lines are all flagged outside the US, but they each have a US addressed headquarter. I'm by no means an expert on the BBB, but remember, the ratings aren't based solely on consumer reviews.

From the BBB..... "The grades represent BBB’s degree of confidence that the business is operating in a trustworthy manner and will make a good faith effort to resolve any customer concerns filed with the BBB." So in this case, an A+ does not mean that RCL is the best cruise line, it just means that the BBB believes the company holds high integrity and will work to resolve customer complaints. I suspect MSC's failure rating is related to unwillingness to resolve customer conflicts (which we read about here rather frequently).

I am more intrigued in understanding WHY MSC is the only line with a failure rating. A comparison among peers. I thought perhaps it was because they were "Italian", but the Costa data throws that theory to the wind.

BBB ratings represent the BBB's opinion of how the business is likely to interact with its customers. The BBB rating is based on information BBB is able to obtain about the business, including complaints received from the public. ... BBB assigns ratings from A+ (highest) to F (lowest).

The organization says that trustworthy companies can become BBB "accredited," which can cost anywhere from hundreds to more than $10,000 in membership fees each year. ... While many people view the BBB as a consumer watchdog or even a government agency, the BBB itself says this is a misconception.

https://money.cnn.com/2015/09/30/news/better-business-bureau/index.html Tells another story with no date about BBB, dated September 2015. I am not a fan of CNN but I found the article interesting.

BBB Accreditation Cost: Each BBB has its own fee structure for businesses in their area. Those fees range from a few hundred dollars per year to thousands of dollars depending on the number of locations and employees a business has. Mar 22, 2019

To get an A+ rating, you need to get 97 points or more. The grade you ge t  from the BBB represents the BBB's degree of confidence that your business is operating in a trustworthy manner and will make a good faith effort to resolve any customer complaints. Nov 1, 2018

The BBB rating is based on information BBB is able to obtain about the business, including complaints received from the public. ... BBB assigns ratings from A+ (highest) to F (lowest).

If you're dissatisfied with a business transaction, whether the company is accredited with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) or not, you can file a complaint through your local BBB. ... But if that fails, the BBB promises to do its best to help both sides come to a quick and fair resolution.

The BBB helps many solve issues they felt they could not resolve on their own. They have also been helpful in putting out information to warn consumers about scams. I do not deny I have read various stories about what has happened to them when sailing MSC. I have also read stories speaking of highlights and great service. I feel MSC has tried to achieve a better experience by changing many of the things in the American market that Americans prefer when sailing.

MSC gets an A rating when it comes to cruise price.
