Steve Hofmeyr blames SA expat for being booted off MSC cruise ship

Hofmeyr says the reason why he is not allowed to perform on the MSC cruise ship next week is because of his opinions.

Steve Hofmeyr blames Sloet de Villiers for being booted off the MSC

Controversial Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr was set to sail the seas from Cape Town to Walvis Bay and Namibia and perform on board the The MSC Sinfonia from 20 to 25 February, but he will now stay on dry land performing in Villiers instead.

Frans Swart, Managing Director of Lefra Productions, told The Citizen on Friday morning that Lefra Productions had to pull Hofmeyr from his performance on the Kappityt Festival as a result of business and contractual agreements.

“We want to sincerely apologise to all of Hofmeyr’s fans but want to assure them that Lefra Productions has introduced new artists to its line-up to ensure a great cruise experience with excellent entertainment.” said Swart.

Hofmeyr has been replaced by well-known South African artist, Bobby van Jaarsveld.

Steve hofmeyr responds to being ‘cancelled’.

Hofmeyr took to his Facebook account on Monday to vent about his concert being cancelled, explaining to his fans why he can’t set foot on board the MSC .

Hofmeyr said very few of his concerts get cancelled and that only about four or five concerts have been moved to other venues over the past eight years.

According to the Afrikaans singer, Johan Sloet de Villiers , an expat who founded a lobby group in Amsterdam, wrote a letter to MSC cruises outlining reasons why the South African artist should not be allowed to perform on their cruise ship.

“In his long letter to MSC’s head office in Geneva, I saw that he still sends photos of me next to Eugene Terblanche and photos of me standing among the farmers in our khakis, but yet he omits to share any pictures of me with black people. There are no photos of me with Jacob Zuma or Nelson Mandela. There are no photos of my meeting with Pallo Jordan. He likes to mention my fondness for the old national anthem but is silent about the fact that I sang the old national anthem with Brenda Fassie and others at all those Tri-Nations rugby games.”

Hofmeyr goes on to talk about the high farm murder rates in South Africa and how this Amsterdam nemesis [Sloet de Villiers] doesn’t mention that both white and black South Africans complain about the high crime rates in the country.

Hofmeyr concludes his video by saying that he has never been found guilty on any of Sloet’s charges by any court, police or human right commission.

Watch the video below:

“Although my opinions are not always very popular everywhere, there is no singer in the world that is asked his/her opinion about something before they are allowed to perform somewhere – it’s just Steve Hofmeyr.

“MSC Cruises had to choose between their left-wing activist in Amsterdam and thousands of people – you who had booked a ticket, and people like me who’ve filled their ships for 10 years. They chose the woke snowflake,” he said.

He further added that those who bought tickets should ask for their money back and avoid all MSC cruises and that he personally will never set foot one of their ships again.

“I don’t care what they offer. I don’t like getting sea sick. You can vomit at your own house. You can barf in your garden. Who needs a cabin?”

MSC responds to Steve Hoffmeyer criticism after he was dropped from theme cruise

MSC Cruises South Africa has released a statement insisting it was not behind the decision to remove South African musician Steve Hofmeyr from an upcoming themed cruise aboard MSC Sinfonia.

Steve Hofmeyr, an Afrikaans singer known for his racially divisive statements, said in a recent Facebook video that the cruise line had sided with “woke snowflakes” and “left-wing radicals” over the thousands of people like him who have supported the cruise line for years.

He made the comments in a wide-ranging Facebook video in Afrikaans, in which he also commented on the recent State of the Nation address by President Cyril Ramaphosa and the ongoing farm murders crisis in the country.

Thango Gombiza, MSC Cruises spokesperson, confirmed that Hofmeyr had been removed from the artist line-up for next week’s Kappityt Festival taking place aboard the MSC Sinfonia, but insisted the decision was made solely by the event organiser, which is handling all aspects of onboard entertainment.

Frans Swart, managing director of Lefra Productions, the event organiser, told News24 that they “had to relieve Hofmeyr from his performance on the Kappityt Festival as a result of business and contractual agreements.”

“We want to sincerely apologise to all Hofmeyr’s fans but want to assure them that Lefra Productions has introduced new artists to its line-up to ensure a great cruise experience with excellent entertainment,” he added.

Gombiza added that Hofmeyr is being paid his full performance fee by the organiser, and was offered the option of performing ashore in Walvis Bay, Namibia, rather than during the cruise on the ship.

Hofmeyr reportedly decline this offer, and in his Facebook video hit out at MSC Cruises, saying it was favouring left-wing activists.

“MSC Cruises had to choose between their left-wing activist in Amsterdam and thousands of people – you who had booked a ticket, and people like me who’ve filled their ships for 10 years. They chose the woke snowflake,” Hofmeyr said.

“I will never climb on one of their ships again, I don’t care what they offer,” he added.

According to Gombiza, the line-up change was “done in accordance with our contract in place with the third-party organiser, which requires that they comply with MSC Cruises’ values and standards,” which suggests the cruise line may have had some involvement after all.

Steve Hofmeyr chased from boat cruise concert

Written by brooklyn masuku on 15 february, 2023.

Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr, known for his racially divisive statements, has been booted from an MSC Cruises boat. Hofmeyr will not be part of next week’s Kappityt Festival taking place aboard the MSC Sinfonia.

I will never climb on one of their ships again.

The decision was made by the organizers of the concert, Dreamboats Events, after they received backlash from the public regarding Hofmeyr’s controversial views and past statements.

Thango Gombiza, MSC Cruises spokesperson, confirmed to News24 that Hofmeyr has been removed by the theme cruise organiser from the artist line-up.

Gombiza says;

The MSC Cruises theme cruise was organised by an independent third party, that they are solely responsible for all the details relating to the theme, including the on-board theme entertainment for its guests and for the appointment and management of artists and that this was “done in accordance with our contract in place with the third-party organiser, which requires that they comply with MSC Cruises’ values and standards.

In a new video on his Facebook page, Hofmeyr gave his political views on the State of the Nation Address (SONA), farm murders, and his appearance being canned.

https://fb.watch/iIALdNA43m/

MSC Cruises had to choose between their left-wing activist in Amsterdam and thousands of people – you who had booked a ticket, and people like me who’ve filled their ships for 10 years. They chose the woke snowflake.

Hofmeyr says.

He adds, “I will never climb on one of their ships again, I don’t care what they offer. I don’t like getting seasick. You can vomit at your own house. You can barf in your garden. Who needs a cabin?”

The incident highlights the ongoing debate around freedom of speech and the responsibility of event organizers to promote diversity and inclusivity. While some argue that controversial figures should be allowed to express their views, others believe that hate speech and discrimination have no place in public events. Ultimately, it is up to each individual and organization to decide where they draw the line.

MSC Foundation

Life-changing programmes worldwide

As a family-owned company with a global seafaring heritage that dates back to 1675, MSC cares passionately about the seas and has a real love of the beautiful places and inspiring cultures we take our guests to explore all over the world. This has led us to launch many life-changing initiatives over the years. The MSC Foundation was founded in 2019 to lead and coordinate these conservation and humanitarian commitments worldwide, developing the longstanding philanthropic partnerships of all the MSC Group companies and launching many new initiatives.   Benefiting from MSC’s global reach and unique knowledge of the sea, the MSC Foundation protects and nurtures the blue planet, helps disaster-struck populations toward recovery, and supports vulnerable communities around the world to realise their full potential through education, sustainable development and medical humanitarian programmes.   The Foundation works to achieve this both independently and together with trusted partners that have a strong innovative vision or track record for effective action. Our principal partners are UNICEF ,  Marevivo,   Mercy Ships and Ba'a Foundation .

Completion of MSC Virtuosa and MSC Seashore and strengthening our commitment to sustainability.

Despite the challenges of the Covid pandemic two new cruise ships joined our fleet in 2021 – MSC Virtuosa and MSC Seashore. We also advanced with our ambitions to grow our portfolio of cruise terminals, which allow us to anchor our presence in marquee homeports and offer the best service to guests while enabling us to foster a front-to-end integrated experience. In November, we opened the doors of the Nelson Mandela Cruise Terminal in Durban, South Africa. We also obtained final clearance to start building our exclusive cruise terminals in Barcelona and Miami as key embarkation ports in the western Mediterranean and the Caribbean. In 2021, we also took an important step forward on our journey to sustainability and reinforced our desire to be an industry leader in this field.

MSC World Europa, Promenade | MSC Cruises

Delivery of MSC World Europa, the first LNG-powered ship of our fleet and introduced technologies to reduce our impact on the environment.

In 2022 we were delighted that we finally saw the restart of the entire fleet and progressively and safely ease Covid restrictions. We also continued to make significant progress along our sustainability journey. Over the year, we launched two new ships. In October, we took delivery of the MSC World Europa, the first to be LNG-powered. It features a pilot solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and incorporates a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system – which reduces nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90% by converting the gas into nitrogen and water – and shore-to-ship power connectivity, which allows MSC World Europa to minimise engine use at ports wherever the portside infrastructure is available. In November, we took delivery of the MSC Seascape. MSC Protectours , our dedicated excursions specifically designed to educate our guests and promote responsible tourism and responsible travel- become more widely available.

MSC Euribia LNG Ship | MSC Cruises

We conducted the world's first ever net zero Greenhouse Gas emissions voyage, inaugurated our new terminal facilities in Durban (South Africa) and launched Explora I, the first of six ships from our new luxury brand Explora Journeys.

MSC Euribia, our second LNG ship, conducted the world’s first ever net zero Greenhouse Gas emissions voyage utilising Bio-LNG using mass-balance, the most cost-effective and environmentally efficient method of delivering the benefits of renewable LNG.

The first steel was cut for the second of our World Class ships, MSC World America. Sales opened for her itineraries, where she will homeport in our new state-of-the-art terminal at Port Miami, from 2025. A further two World Class ships were confirmed with shipbuilder Chantiers de l’Atlantique, with an option for a fifth.

MSC Meraviglia became MSC Cruises’ first ship to homeport in New York, conducting year-round sailings. This marked a third homeport in the USA, in addition to Miami and Port Canaveral. This was followed by sales opening at our fourth homeport of Galvaston, Texas.

MSC Cruises conducted an industry first, as two ships departed at the same time for separate 117 and 119-day world cruises - MSC Magnifica and MSC Poesia.

And in South Africa, we celebrated the inauguration of our new terminal facilities in Durban.

In the autumn, a new era for the Cruise Division of MSC Group began, with the launch of Explora I, the first of six ships from our new luxury brand, Explora Journeys, expanding the options for ocean travel to a new audience of luxury traveller.

ISO 50001

Respecting people and planet MSC Cruises believes that global leadership brings increased responsibility towards the physical and human environments in which a company operates. Its commitment to safeguarding the marine ecosystem, as well as protecting the health and safety of its staff and the travellers on board its fleet, has earned numerous awards and certifications.

In 2016, leading international classification society Bureau Veritas recognised MSC Cruises with the Special Safety Best Practices Award for the high level of enhanced safety procedures across its entire fleet. This important award follows similar accolades in past years. In 2013, Bureau Veritas granted MSC Cruises the honour of being the first company to receive ‘7 Golden Pearls’ for environmental care for MSC’s Fantasia class ships. This unique award comprises Cleanship 2 Class notation for advanced air, water and waste treatment systems, as well as new ISO 50001 certification for the highest standards of Energy Performance, ISO 14001 certification for environmental management, ISO 22000 for food safety and OHSAS 18001 for occupational health and safety. With MSC Preziosa, MSC Divina, and MSC Splendida, the company has also successfully met the strict standards required by Bureau Veritas’ voluntary Energy Efficient Design scheme. The quality and safety of all aspects of the company’s catering practices, both ashore and on board, were formally officially recognized through ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 certifications. Reflecting its commitment to protect the seas, MSC Cruises was one of the first cruise lines to voluntarily reduce emissions in ports to levels far below the legally required minimum. Embracing the philosophy of corporate social responsibility still further, MSC Cruises launched an important partnership with UNICEF in 2009. The Get On Board For Children project benefited disadvantaged children and adolescents in 126 vulnerable urban communities in Brazil by helping to ensure they receive a proper education. MSC Cruises also supports UNICEF’s efforts to tackle child famine and malnutrition in developing countries and in emergency situations. The partnership helped raise more than EUR 7 million to date. In order to support biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and the enhancement and promotion of marine protected areas, MSC Cruises and Marevivo joined forces in 2015 to inspire young people with a passion for the sea.
