Meridian man hit a moose on his motorcycle. Now he needs help getting home, GoFundMe says

A Meridian Navy veteran is looking for help from the community to get back home after suffering serious injuries on a road trip.

On June 11, Elsworth Barrington suffered serious injuries after hitting a moose while he was riding his motorcycle from Bonner’s Ferry in North Idaho to Hamilton, Montana, according to a GoFundMe page . The moose jumped the guardrail and ran into Barrington, who was traveling roughly 30 mph, the page said.

Barrington suffered a brain injury, broken pelvis, cracked sternum and eight broken ribs, according to the page. He was airlifted to Kootenai County Hospital in Coeur d’Alene. Now his family is asking the community to help raise money to get him home through a medical transport.

Barrington has some medical insurance, but a number of his costs will not be covered. The GoFundMe page has asked for $100,000 to help get Barrington home and pay for the remainder of his medical bills. The page has raised $1,390 so far.

Barrington’s wife and family have already made the eight-hour trip from Meridian to the hospital twice — and they anticipate more trips as he continues to recover, according to the GoFundMe page.

Child, 11, dies after medical emergency while on youth group trip to water park

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. (Gray News) – An 11-year-old boy died unexpectedly Saturday after going to a water park with his youth group.

The Irvine Police Department posted on X that officials responded to Wild Rivers Waterpark to help with medical aid.

“A juvenile was transported to the hospital and sadly passed away,” the post read. “It does not appear the incident is water-related.”

The water park told KTLA in a statement the boy medical emergency outside of a pool.

“Our hearts go out to the boy’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” KTLA said the statement read in part. “We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”

A GoFundMe created to help the family identifies the boy as 11-year-old Titus Winiger.

“While the family is still waiting for more information or to understand why, we would like to meet them with love, support and a monetary donation that they may need during this time of sorrow,” the GoFundMe reads.

Motorcycle accident leaves 5 kids without parents, GoFundMe set up to help

HEBER, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A fatal motorcycle accident earlier this month left five children without their parents.

According to the victim’s family, Jeff and Melinda Romney were traveling from Midway to Heber on Highway 40 when they were T-boned and thrown from their vehicle. The couple was reportedly life-flighted to University Medical Center, where they later passed away.

Severin Sorensen, Jeff’s brother-in-law, said the family is devastated

“Life is precious and fragile. It can change in an instant,” he said.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the Romney children to help pay for direct care and living expenses, education, recreational activities, future milestones, and administrative costs. Among Jeff and Melinda’s surviving children are Taygen, 13, and Jayde, 11.

“This is all about the kids. It’s only about the kids … [The GoFundMe is] designed to be a help and an aid their life,” Sorensen said.

Through the GoFundMe, Sorensen hopes Taygen and Jayde’s dreams can “come to fruition.”

“Every donation brings us closer to shaping a future filled with hope, love, and the reassuring embrace of a community that stands together in adversity,” he said.

While Sorensen said no funds can replace having parents there, he said the goal is to “put our arms around these kids and to love them and to cherish them and really try to do something for them they can’t,” he said. “Sometimes in life, we have to be God’s angels.”
