Taylor Swift at MetLife review: Visual spectacle packed with screams, stories and songs

metlife stadium eras tour setlist

There are shows, then there’s the Taylor Swift Eras Tour.

The 3½-hour music and visual spectacle landed Friday at MetLife Stadium to deafening squeals, cheers and screams from the 70,000 inside. There was music, dancing, video, pyrotechnics, confetti and a retrospective of Swift’s career so far.

The latest chapter? A collaboration with Ice Spice, hip-hop’s new breakout star. They’ve just released a remixed version of Swift’s single “Karma,” on which Spice raps. Not only was a new video debuted at MetLife, but Spice came out to perform the song live to close the show.

“I not only fell in love with her but I decided that she’s the entire future,” said Swift when introducing the video, which touches on classic motifs.

Ice Spice was a Venus in the shell.

Still, the night was all about Swift, framed in multimedia tableaus representing stages in her career. She came out in a sparkly body suit and spangled boots and did not look back, spanning her country pop roots to the synthy rhythms of her latest album, “Midnights.”

The staging was awesome, with the largest visual screen this reporter has seen at MetLife. Not only big, but optically striking with high-definition images. The woodland setting for the “Folklore” songs and the giant Taylor for “Anti-Hero” were especially impressive.

The extended stage seemed take up 50 yards of the field, with multiple risers that had screens on them. The floor was illuminated and at one point Swift jumped into an obscured trapped door and vanished until she was depicted “swimming” under the stage.

Swift was backed by a live band and a dance troupe of more than a dozen who were in constant motion, except when Swift took center stage by herself. She oozes magnetism and charm, and the audience — who hadn’t seen their hero on stage since 2018 — couldn’t get enough.

At the conclusion of “Champagne Problems,” performed by Swift solo at the piano, the crowd roared spontaneously for minutes while Swift’s eyes seemed to moisten.

“What are you guys doing?“ Swift said. “This is so nice.”

Swift is a storyteller, dancer and singer, whose phrasing and cadence really brings home the melody. That was especially evident in her performance of “August,“ which soared beautifully in sound and sight as Swift danced in a billowing dress.

Swift is also an advocate for artists' rights. She talked about re-recording her first six albums to ascertain ownership of the master recordings, giving her rights to usage of the material.

“This is passion project,” Swift said. “This is something I'm passionate about personally, but I can't expect, or require or demand, people get on board with it. That's not something I would expect from you guys but the craziest thing happened when I started putting out the new versions of the albums, called Taylor Versions, you guys decided they were the versions that you loved.”

There aren't a lot of pop stars who can talk about record industry power moves with 70,000 screaming people.

It was a Jersey night. Swift, who summered at the Jersey Shore when she was a kid, spoke about her fondness for the MetLife audience. A Jersey musician joined her on stage: Jack Antonoff, her frequent collaborator and the frontman for Bleachers. He helped deliver an acoustic version of “Getaway Car.”

“Jack feels like a cousin of mine at this point,” Swift said.

"You Don't Own Me," as performed by the late Tenafly legend Lesley Gore, was played just prior to Swift taking the stage at 8 p.m.

Gayle and Phoebe Bridgers opened the show, which ran five hours in total. Bridgers later joined Swift for “Nothing New.”

Taylor-mania hit the area in the days leading up to the concerts.

“We are declaring the official state sandwich of New Jersey the Taylor Swift ham, egg and cheese,” said Gov. Phil Murphy on Thursday, adding a Swiftie lyric expertise to the announcement. “Welcome to New Jersey, Taylor. We have been waiting for you and it would have been a cruel summer without you.”

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers said he'll be at MetLife, the team's home stadium, for Swift.

“I’m a fan,” said Rodgers on “Mad Dog Sports Radio.” “I’m a big fan.”

His favorite album is “Folklore,” and “August” is his favorite song from the album, he said.

Swift's Eras Tour, which began March 17 in Arizona, is her first since the Reputation World Tour in 2018, which also played three shows at MetLife. In the interim, Swift released “Lover” in 2019, “Folklore” and “Evermore” in 2020, “Midnights” in 2022, and the re-recorded albums “Fearless (Taylor's Version)” and “Red (Taylor's Version)” in 2021.

Swift released a new “Midnights” deluxe album ("Till Dawn Edition") at midnight on Friday.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour at MetLife: Here's everything you need to know about the shows

In November, Ticketmaster announced it was canceling a Swift general public onsale because of the huge demand for tickets. Ticket prices were $49 to $449 before fees, and higher for VIP packages.

The initial presale was supposed to be open to 1.5 million verified fans, but 14 million people and bots jumped in, said Live Nation Chairman Greg Maffei on CNBC.

The problems with the tour onsale prompted the Senate Judiciary Committee's anti-trust subcommittee to hold a hearing in January to question if Live Nation Entertainment, the owner of Ticketmaster, needed to be broken up.

Tickets prices began at $1,100 on the secondary market before the show on Friday. Swift's Eras Tour also included MetLife shows on Saturday and Sunday.

Taylor spent months putting together this show for her fans. It is the singer’s first time touring since 2018, and expectations going into the tour were high. Since Taylor’s last tour, she’s released four new albums, as well as two re-recorded versions of old albums (with a third coming on July 7). Speculation about which tracks would actually make the show’s setlist had been rampant amongst fans since Taylor announced the tour in November 2022.

On opening night, Taylor proved that she would be taking the crowd throughout her entire catalog of music on this tour. She started out with the Lover era, and continued on from there, playing 44 songs in total throughout the evening. As the weeks and number of shows went on, fans found out that there would also be two songs that changed in the setlist each night. Taylor confirmed that these tracks would be different each night of the tour, unless she messed one of them up and had to perform it again at a later date. Find out everything we know about the setlist and tour below:

She replaced the song with “The 1” from the same album.***

“Let one thing be said about the Eras Tour, You think you can just go online, you think you can just scroll and know the setlist?” Taylor told the crowd.” You think you can come prepared with your little flashcards in your pockets? ‘I know what’s next. We enjoy a good, healthy setlist hijinks.” **For the final three weekends of U.S. shows, Taylor took “Tis The Damn Season” off the setlist and replaced it with “No Body, No Crime (feat. HAIM),” who was the opening act for the tour during that run and joined her onstage to perform it.

The 33-year-old had hundreds of songs and ten albums to choose from when it came to curating this setlist. Since her last tour, she released the albums Lover, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights , as well as re-records of Fearless and Red . Fans who preordered Taylor’s album Midnights in the store were given a “special presale code access for forthcoming and yet-to-be-announced UK show dates.” Subsequent legs of the tour have not been confirmed.

Taylor Swift Ticketmaster Controversy

When tickets for the Eras Tour went on sale, there was an unprecedented demand. Before the on-sale date, fans were able to sign up for a “verified fan” code, which was Ticketmaster’s attempt at eliminating bots from purchasing tickets. A lottery-style drawing was done, giving only a select number of fans pre-sale codes to purchase tickets.

Despite hundreds of thousands of fans not receiving codes and being put on a “waitlist,” Ticketmaster still crashed when hoards of Swifties flocked to the site on the Nov. 15 pre-sale date. Millions of people attempted to log into the sale at the same time, causing the site to crash. The chairman of Live Nation later revealed that 14 million fans were attempting to sign on at once, despite Ticketmaster only expecting 1.5 million based on the codes that had been given out.

Ticketmaster was forced to cancel the regular on-sale for the concert, due to lack of tickets remaining. Thousands of fans were not able to get tickets to the tour, leading to outrage and backlash against Ticketmaster. On Nov. 18, Taylor took to her Instagram Story to address the situation . She specifically called out Ticketmaster for not being able to handle the demand of the situation, despite assuring her that it would be covered.

“It goes without saying that I’m extremely protective of my fans,” Taylor wrote. “We’ve been doing this for decades together and over the years, I’ve brought so many elements of my career in house. I’ve done this SPECIFICALLY to improve the quality of my fans’ experience by doing it myself with my team who care as much about my fans as I do. It’s really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties, and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse. There are a multitude of reasons why people had such a hard time trying to get tickets and I’m trying to figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward. I’m not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could. It’s truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them. And to those who didn’t get tickets, all I can say is that my hope is to provide more opportunities for us all to get together and sing these songs. Thank you for wanting to be there. You have no idea how much that means.”

That same day, Ticketmaster apologized for the fiasco in a statement on its website. The company apologized specifically to Taylor and her fans, while also attempting to explain how things got so out of control. Ticketmaster included statistics to show just how many people were coming to the site to purchase tickets, and explained how this astronomical number was different than what they’ve experienced in the past. “Historically, around 40% of [verified] fans [with presale codes] actually show up and most purchase an average of 3 tickets,” the post explained. “Around 1.5 million [of 3.5 million who signed up] people were sent codes to join the on-sale for all 52 dates.”

The post continued, “This time, the staggering number of bot attacks, as well as fans who didn’t have codes, drove unprecedented traffic on our site, resulting in 3.5 BILLION total system requests.” The company also assured fans that they were “always working to improve the ticket buying experience.”

In Jan. 2023, Ticketmaster/Live Nation faced a Senate hearing about whether or not its monopoly on the ticket-buying industry is what led to this controversy. During the hearing, the CEO of Live Nation once again apologized to Taylor and her fans. “We need to do better and will do better,” he insisted, per  Associated Press . The Ticketmaster higher-ups were grilled by the Senate during the hearing, and many Senators even pulled out Taylor Swift song lyrics to make their points. It remains to be seen whether or not this hearing will have any effect on the company in the future.

Taylor Swift, Eras Tour, May 26, 2023

“Oh, New Jersey, I feel absolutely fantastic right now.”

Taylor Swift brought her blockbuster Eras Tour — on track to net an estimated $590 million in ticket sales and become the biggest trek of her entire career — to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. on Friday (May 26) evening for the first of three sold-out shows at the massive venue.

The tour (which began in March in Glendale, Ariz., and moves on to Chicago after the Jersey dates before wrapping in August in California) is a three-hour marathon of Swift’s imposing catalog of pop, folk and country classics, which spans massive hits on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as deep-cut fan favorites.

After a muscular opening set from GAYLE and a crowd-pleasing performance by the ever-reliable Phoebe Bridgers, Swift took the stage to thunderous applause.

“There is one thing I dream of with the childlike wonder of a hundred birthdays – the first night of MetLife,” Swift told the crowd at the top of her set. And clearly, her Friday night concert for the New Jersey/New York crowd was a meaningful one for her – not only did she debut three new outfits, but she brought out three guest performers — and offered MetLife attendees an advance screening of the music video for “Karma” approximately an hour before it landed online.

From her marvelous surprise song choices to a moment when the audience surprised Swift to her flashy new threads, here are the best moments from night one of Taylor Swift’s first evening at MetLife on her Eras Tour.

For the Lover era segment of the night, Swift debuted a brand-new outfit – a silvery leotard with deep purple contours and tassels. It clearly afforded Swift a lot of room for movement during the more choreography-heavy moments.

During evermore standout “’Tis the Damn Season,” which proves a song doesn’t need to be loud to elicit a high-decibel audience response, Swift took the stage in another fresh outfit. The new dress was a rich, dark gold, with shimmering pinpoints of light arranged in vertical lines. Almost looking as if it were lit from within, it might be the most memorable look from this tour.

“Marjorie” Moment

While attendees were fitted with wristbands that periodically lit up in unison throughout the night, there was one moment when the audience took luminosity matters into their own hands. During “Marjorie,” a song about Swift’s late grandmother, tens of thousands of people put their cell phone lights on and raised them up. “That was you guys telepathically communicating with each other to create a special moment for me,” Swift said after the song, clearly touched. “My grandmother was a singer, too, and I know she would have loved to sing at MetLife. But her voice is on that song, so she just did.”

During “Enchanted,” the sole song representing Speak Now — which receives a (Taylor’s Version) release come July 7, and presumably a bigger setlist look after that — Swift brought out another new dress. This one was a poofy tulle outfit, which came across like an elevated version of a Disney princess’ ballroom gown; the look beautifully matched the heart-on-sleeve, fairy tale romantic longing of the song.

Phoebe's Victory Lap

After Swift spoke on how her re-recordings offered her the opportunity to dig deeper into her past, she brought out opening act Phoebe Bridgers, guitar in hand, for a duet on a song Swift wrote when she was 22 — “Nothing New,” the duo’s collab on Red (Taylor’s Version). Bridgers had already delivered a knockout set on her own, and she was visibly jubilant to join Swift on stage for her victory lap duet.

“Karma” Is a Video Premiere

MetLife’s Friday crowd was graced with yet another first: the premiere of her “Karma” music video about an hour before it dropped online. “At the very beginning of the year, when I was just starting to train for this tour, I got reached out to by Ice Spice,” Swift explained. “She reached out and said, ‘If you’d ever like to do a collab, I would love to.’ And what she didn’t know at the time is that when I was training for the tour, I was listening to pretty much exclusively just her music every single day. All day.” The two eventually hit the studio. “I not only fell in love with her, but decided she’s the entire future,” Swift said. “I’ve been around so many artists and so many artists just starting out, but I’ve never been around an artist who’s so prepared and curious and focused on what she wants.” After that intro, the delightful, playful “Karma” video made its world premiere for an intimate audience of several tens of thousands of rapt fans.

Acoustic Surprise #1

“I know you’ve wanted to hear this song,” Swift teased before her first surprise acoustic offering. And she wasn’t exaggerating. The pick was “Getaway Car,” a beloved fan fave, and for the song, frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff joined her on stage. “He’s been one of my best friends – he feels like a family member,” Swift said while welcoming “Jersey’s own” Antonoff. In addition to singing lead on a few lines, Antonoff aided Swift with some forceful acoustic strumming on the Reputation highlight.

Acoustic Surprise #2

Midnights is the most recent album to drop before Taylor’s Eras Tour, so it’s no surprise that it takes up a good portion of the setlist. Even so, the standard Eras Tour setlist doesn’t include one of the album’s absolute best songs – but Friday night’s crowd was in for a treat. “This is one of my favorites off Midnights , but I haven’t played it yet,” Swift said, before performing a gorgeous rendition of “Maroon” while seated at an upright piano festooned with a floral design.

Spice Up the Stage

If the “Karma” video premiere wasn’t enough, Swift one-upped herself at the very end of the night by bringing out Bronx-bred rapper Ice Spice to deliver her casually confident verse on the just dropped “Karma” remix. “Make the most noise you’ve made all night,” Swift said as Spice, waiting below, was elevated up to the stage — and the crowd certainly complied. As the “Princess Diana” hitmaker performed to the largest crowd of her young career, she seemed comfortable and a bit awestruck. The two held hands while strutting around the stage, and when confetti blasted out at the end, they had their arms around each other while soaking in the rapturous response.

The Official charts should speak more about other artists!! ED, Taylor, Miley etc...!! these singers are already overrated and have world success...they don't need more ads or news about them!! why can't the OC speak about underrated artists more often!! a chance for us to get to discover them. So many of them deserve success but are not known to the public!! thanks the OC!

Swifties know Taylor Swift loves a good surprise , especially during the “Eras Tour.”

Every night on the “Eras Tour,” Swift will perform two surprise songs , with no repeats from concert to concert. This is leaving fans anxiously awaiting their show day while also predicting and guessing the surprise songs.

However, as the tour has gone on, Swift has made two new rules when it comes to the surprise songs: she can repeat anything from her album “Midnights” and repeat any song she messed up while performing.

These new rules have become game changers for fans who have been making surprise song predictions, especially after Taylor’s recent announcement of the exclusive release of“Midnights (Til Dawn Edition).”

It’s time to do what Swifties know how to best; here are the eight surprise song predictions for the MetLife “Eras Tour” shows.

Taylor Swift surprise song predictions for MetLife Stadium: May 26-28

1. “Snow On The Beach”: While Taylor Swift has already performed this song on March 24 in Glendale, Arizona, there are two reasons why this could be a surprise song for this weekend. The first reason why is that Swift has stated that she would repeat any song on “Midnights,” making it still an option up for grabs.

The second reason is that “Snow On The Beach” features Lana Del Ray, who is from New York. With the release of the redone “Snow On The Beach” which features more of Lana singing, it would make sense. Fans are joking around – but actually hoping – that Lana will make a surprise appearance at one of the MetLife shows this weekend.

2. “Welcome to New York”: This surprise song prediction is one Swifties are certain Swift will perform on the opening night of the “Eras Tour.” The song, which is featured on her album “1989,” is the perfect song to kick-off the weekend. It is a song that not only welcomes Swift to the New Jersey/New York area, but welcomes fans to the “Eras Tour.”

3. “Maroon”: “And I chose you/ The one I was dancing with in New York”

4. “Holy Ground (Taylor’s Version)” : “A first glance feeling on New York time”

5. “False God”: “Staring out the window like I’m not your favorite town/ I’m New York City”

6. “Daylight”: “Back and forth from New York sneaking in your bed”

7. “Cornelia Street”: “ Cornelia Street” is one that can be a toss up for surprise songs this weekend. This song is written about her apartment in Greenwich Village in New York City. The reason why Swifties consider it a toss up is that it is a song about her now ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. The song goes “If you ever walked away / I’d never walk Cornelia Street again,” and fans wonder if she will ever perform it again too.

8. “Hoax”: “ You know I left a part of me back in New York”

Taylor Swift Brings Sensational Eras Tour to MetLife Stadium (Night 3)

Taylor Swift brought her highly anticipated Eras Tour to East Rutherford, N.J. for three memorable nights at MetLife Stadium (Taylor’s Version). The record-breaking tour kicked off in March and is vigorously making its way across the country. This weekend’s run of sold-out shows broke MetLife’s weekend attendance record as over 217,000 Swifties poured into the stadium.

As her first tour in five years, it’s no surprise that tickets for the Eras Tour were in high demand. Since 2018’s Reputation tour, the singer has released multiple albums, including Lover, Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights, which Swift released in 2022. Swift has also released re-recorded versions of previous albums, dubbed “Taylor’s Version.” Each of her albums brings fans a new distinct “era” unique from the one before it. The Eras Tour is a celebration of Swift’s iconic discography thus far.

Fans of all Taylor Swift “eras” arrived at MetLife stadium early Sunday afternoon for the final show in New Jersey. The Eras festivities commenced as fans exchanged friendship bracelets, snapped photos, and bought merch at the merch trailers. By the time doors were set to open, a sea of fans had lineup up at the numerous stadium entrances. Many of them were anticipating seeing Swift live for the first time. As far as the eyes could see, Swifties waited anxiously in their creative outfits, spanning from a marching band uniform referencing Swift’s “You Belong With Me” video, to sparkly dresses and cowboy boots.

Phoebe Bridgers and Owenn kick off the evening

The stadium filled in as Owenn opened the show. The R&B artist dazzled the crowd with his resonant vocals. Owenn might have looked familiar to some fans, as the singer previously performed as one of Swift’s backup dancers.

Shortly after Owenn’s performance, indie rock artist Phoebe Bridgers arrived on the stage to the tune of Disturbed’s “Down with the Sickness.” Her atmospheric vocals filled the stadium, as fans sang the haunting lyrics back to her. Bridgers’ set included popular tracks like “Motion Sickness” and “Kyoto.” The singer performed “Waiting Room” as her surprise song, announcing that she is re-releasing the song on Bandcamp with proceeds going to charity.

During Bridgers’ performance, she noted that it was the bittersweet end to her time on the Eras tour. She thanked Swift for having her along. Bridgers’ set came to a gripping end as she screamed the final note of “I Know The End.”

The Lover Era

Shortly before Swift’s set commenced, a clock appeared on the huge screen, replacing the collage of album graphics. Fans chanted along as the countdown neared zero. The magic began as dancers emerged from the screen, donning larger-than-life fans printed with pastel colors.

Anticipation built as the dancers converged in the middle of the stage. A roar of screams permeated MetLife Stadium as the fabric pulled away to reveal Swift rising above the crowd, marking the start of the Eras show. The singer was gleaming as she sang the first lines of “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince” in a blue and gold bejeweled bodysuit.

The opening Lover era continued with songs like “Cruel Summer” and “The Man.” Fans waved their arms in the air as Swift performed a shortened version of “You Need To Calm Down.” Swift took a moment to thank the crowd and jumped into the title track and “The Archer.” Considering 2020’s “Lover Fest” was canceled, fans took every opportunity to sing the lyrics to their favorite Lover tracks for the first time.

The Fearless Era

Swift reappeared on the stage with a sparkling silver dress for the Fearless era. Long-time fans were transported back in time as she played the title track on her matching guitar marked with her lucky number 13. The Fearless era continued with “You Belong With Me” and “Love Story.”

The Evermore Era

Another album getting its tour debut, evermore ’s era was next. The panoramic screen displayed an enchanting forest scene as Swift emerged from the floor. The singer dazzled in a gold floor-length gown as she performed “’tis the damn season.” Swift’s backup dancers joined her for a choreographed performance of “willow,” complete with capes and fiery globes.

The fairytale continued as thousands of cell phone lights illuminated the singer for “marjorie.” In an emotional moment, Swift noted that the song is about her late grandmother. “She was an opera singer and…I’m pretty sure it’s a fact that she would have loved to have gotten to sing at MetLife Stadium,” Swift shared. “Her voice is actually on that song, so technically she just did.”

Sitting at her piano, Swift shouted out the “new members of the family,” the four albums released since her last tour before diving into “champagne problems.” The audience’s voices echoed throughout the stadium and erupted in a standing ovation after the song. Swift beamed and her eyes glistened as she soaked in the seemingly endless applause.

The singer-songwriter is known for her artistic ability to tell vivid stories with her lyrics. Swift carries her dramatic storytelling style into her live show, as seen in the closing evermore song, “tolerate it.” Swift transported fans into the emotive song as she set a dimly lit dinner table and performed the choreography alongside her backup dancer.

The Reputation Era

As the lights faded out, a captivating visual appeared on the screen once again, this time depicting an ominous, slithering snake. The thumping bass and hair-raising synth of the reputation era filled the stadium. Fans’ wristbands flashed a rich shade of red. Swift, surrounded by her backup dancers and guitar players, performed “…Ready For It?” on the elevated stage.

The era continued with “Delicate” and “Don’t Blame Me,” during which Swift towered over the audience and belted out one of the most powerful notes of the night. The reputation era came to a close with a smooth transition into “Look What You Made Me Do.”

The Speak Now Era

The reputation snake animation slithered away as the screen radiated purple, hinting at the shift into the short but sweet Speak Now segment of the show. Swift emerged from clouds of smoke wearing a stunning gown, perfect for the whimsical aura of “Enchanted.”

The Red Era

Swift returned backstage for another outfit change while one of her dancers opened and closed red musical chests, teasing the crowd with fragments of nostalgic songs from 2012’s Red album. The magic act culminated in red balloons soaring across the screen. Swift appeared, this time wearing her iconic shirt that reads, “Who’s Taylor Swift Anyway? Ew.” The singer dove into a cheerful performance of “22,” during which she gave her hat to an excited young fan.

The concert’s Red era also featured a heartwarming acoustic duet with Bridgers. For the final time on the tour, the two singers performed “Nothing New,” a “vault” track that debuted on Red (Taylor’s Version). Swift kept things mellow as she closed out Red with the poetic verses of the 10-minute version of “All Too Well.”

The Folklore Era

Marking the progression into folklore , Swift appeared sitting on a moss-covered cabin on the stage, setting the scene for the album. The era served as a more tranquil portion of the show. It featured songs such as “the 1,” “august,” and “cardigan.” Swift twirled around the stage in a flowing purple gown as the crowd’s white lights swayed back and forth. Waves crashed and an eerie forest panned on the screen behind her, creating an ethereal ambiance fit for folklore.

The 1989 Era and surprise songs

The high energy picked up once again for the vivacious tunes of 1989. Swift strutted down the stage in a sparkly orange two-piece outfit as she sang “Style,” certainly living up to the name. “Blank Space” saw the singer swinging a neon golf club while belting out impressive vocals. The infectious beats and impeccable choreography continued through “Shake It Off,” “Wildest Dreams,” and “Bad Blood.”

Finally, the moment many fans were anxiously awaiting was at their fingertips. Swift, dressed in a flowing yellow dress, grabbed her acoustic guitar for the first surprise song of the night. The singer has a tradition of playing surprise songs at each of her shows, unique from the ones before them. Little did fans know, Swift would be breaking one of her own “rules” for this show.

The first song was a stripped-back version of the first track on 1989 , “Welcome to New York.” The choice was fitting for New York-adjacent MetLife Stadium. Swift then sat at her piano, anticipation building among fans eager for the reveal of the second surprise song. She shared that one of her rules allows her to repeat songs if she “messes it up” the first time. In this case, Swift said she wanted to perform a previously performed song in a higher key. She shared, “I wanna do it again because I love you…This crowd is really special,” noting that they always show up “113%.”

Screams echoed as Swift began playing “Clean,” the closing track on 1989. A sea of lights illuminated Swift, who serenaded the crowd with impassioned vocals. The serene performance drew to a close as Swift dove into the stage and “swam” away.

The Midnights Era

The night concluded with none other than Swift’s newest album, Midnights. She opened the final era of the tour with “Lavender Haze,” wearing a shimmering purple dress and enclosed in a ring of dreamy clouds. Playing seven tracks from the album, Swift continued with the mega-popular track “Anti-Hero” before transitioning into “Midnight Rain.” Swift emerged from a shell of umbrellas wearing her Eras midnight-blue bodysuit and matching crystal garter. The electropop beats vibrated through Metlife Stadium.

Swift followed with “Vigilante Shit,” sending fans into a frenzy with her alluring vocals and choreography. Her next track, “Bejeweled,” made “the whole place shimmer.” The crowd’s bracelets flashed vibrant colors to the beat of the music. Her 45-song set neared the end as Swift performed “Mastermind” before diving into “Karma.”

Last week, Swift released a deluxe version of Midnights , dubbed the Late Night Edition . The album includes a remix of “Karma” with Ice Spice. Fans in attendance at MetLife had first dibs at purchasing the album. So, it was only fitting that she brought out the New York rapper to close out the already extraordinary night.

Dancers dressed in the colors of each of Swift’s eras surround Swift and Ice Spice as they walked the stage. Fans cheered and took in the final moments of the show.

Our thoughts on the Eras Tour

The Eras Tour will undeniably go down in history, and it’s no surprise why. Swift intricately crafted every second of the fan experience during her live show. From stunning visuals to intricate choreography and unfathomable production, our attention was captivated from start to finish. The 3.5-hour performance is unparalleled and truly beyond our “wildest dreams.” The Eras experience goes beyond the music, as Swift’s die-hard fanbase came together at MetLife Stadium to share in the special experience.

With every live show and every release, Swift proves to be an unstoppable force in the music industry, blazing through any obstacles put in front of her. Recently, Swift announced Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), the next chapter in her journey of reclaiming ownership of her music. Follow along with Swift’s journey here . If you can score tickets to see her phenomenal live show, we highly recommend it.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford: Everything you need to know

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Welcome home, Taylor Swift .

Swift's three-show run at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford that begins Friday, May 26, isn't exactly a hometown affair for the pop superstar — but it's close.

And close to the heart. Swift and her family summered in Cape May during her childhood and early teen years before the family moved from their home in Reading, Pennsylvania, to Nashville.

“I spent my summers at the Jersey Shore from the time I was 2 until we sold the house in Stone Harbor when I was 14,” Swift told The Philadelphia Inquirer in 2009. “It was a pretty magical place to grow up.”

The magic lingers. The Shore made an appearance in the 2021 lyric video for Swift's heartfelt ode to her mom. “The Best Day,” and a young Swift wears a Sea Isle City sweatshirt in a video for “Seven.”

The young Swift was a regular at the Coffee Talk coffeehouse in Stone Harbor.

“It's funny because people say, ‘Oh, did you have any idea?’ and I mean what do I know? I don’t know anything,” said owner Madlynn Zurawski to the (Cherry Hill) Courier-Post. “I just thought she was adorable and cute and (had) a very, very nice family.”

More: Taylor Swift concert tickets for MetLife Stadium on sale, but demand is 'high'

Swift hasn't been a stranger to Jersey since she became a music star. She's been spotted at the Lobster House in Cape May, Uncle Bill’s Pancake House in Avalon, and a Target in Jersey City. In 2016, Swift crashed a wedding in Brant Beach on Long Beach Island and performed her song “Blank Space.”

Swift's show at MetLife is part of her Eras Tour, designed to cover material from her 10 albums, released over the past 17 years. There are 10 choreographed “acts”: Lover, Fearless, Evermore, Reputation, Speak Now, Red, Folklore, 1989, surprise songs, and Midnights. In all, it's more than 40 songs in about three hours.

At MetLife, Phoebe Bridgers opens all three shows. Gayle joins in on Friday, Gracie Adams on Saturday, and Owenn on Sunday.

Swift's Eras stand at MetLife will mark nine total times she's played the stadium. That's a record until Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band tie it with their scheduled three-show run this summer.

One record that is Swift's forever: In 2013, she became the first female artist to headline MetLife when her “Red Tour” played there.

Parking/transportation

Day of event parking cost: $40 per car; $160 per Bus/RV.

Parking directions: metlifestadium.com/getting-here/directions

Non-rideshare pick-up/drop-off: Follow on-site signage and directions from traffic/parking team members for the dedicated guests with disabilities drop-off location. The drop-off/pick-up area for guests with disabilities is located near Lot C, which is adjacent to the Verizon Gate. All other guest drop-offs are to be conducted on the sidewalk between Lots D and E. This roadway is accessible from Route 120 (North/South) or from the New Jersey Turnpike via 16W.

NJ TRANSIT TRAIN: Trains will operate between Secaucus Junction and MetLife Stadium on the BetMGM Meadowlands Rail Line. The start time for the rail shuttle varies based on the scheduled start time of the event. Check njtransit.com/MetLifeStadium for complete rail timetables closer to the concert dates. During peak periods prior to an event with rail service, trains operate approximately every 10 to 20 minutes. Customers are advised to consult the rail schedule for the event to note when the final train leaves Secaucus for the stadium and stadium for Secaucus. Visit www.njtransit.com/metlifestadium

COACH USA BUS: Buses will depart at 3:30 p.m. from Area X (41st Street between 8th & 9th Avenus, New York City) at Port Authority. The last departing bus from Port Authority to MetLife Stadium will leave at 6:45 pm. The last bus will leave the stadium 60 minutes after the event ends. Visit coachusa.com/351-meadowlands-express for more information.

Rideshare: A designated Rideshare Zone is located in Lot E off of West Peripheral Road, right outside of the Verizon Gate. When you request a ride from a rideshare service such as Lyft or Uber at MetLife Stadium, your pickup location will default to a pin in the pickup zone. Once you place your request, head to the Rideshare Zone in Lot E and look out for a call or text from your driver to let you know which row they are parked in.

Be advised that rideshare surge pricing is often in effect after the game and larger crowds will result in longer than usual wait times (potentially over an hour) for a car to arrive — and considerably higher prices than what you paid coming to the stadium. Make sure your phone is charged and ready to go if you’re planning to use one of these services.

Shuttles: Shuttle buses are provided to Lot P and the surface parking lots/deck located on the east side (Meadowlands Arena) of the MetLife Sports Complex to the stadium.

Guests parking in Lot P will be dropped-off/picked-up in Lot G (Pepsi Gate) in front of the Meadowlands Racetrack.

Guest parking in the surface lots and in the parking deck near the Arena will be dropped-off/picked-up in Lot C (HCLTech Gate) near the pedestrian bridge. Ticket holders who park in these lots can also walk to MetLife Stadium. They should use the sidewalk from Lot P and the pedestrian bridge from the east side of the Sports Complex. For their safety, guests should not walk on the Sports Complex roadways, cross Route 120 or cross Route 3.

Tailgating is permitted but drones, model aircraft, kites, and any other remote controlled or tethered flying objects are not permitted.

Tailgating should be limited to the lined parking space, and the area directly behind or in front of each vehicle. Blocking drive lanes is prohibited.

Tailgating is also permitted on the medians that separate the parking lots from the roadways. Click here for details.

No ‘Taylor-gating’ for fans without tickets

“For the safety and enjoyment of all those who have tickets, for these shows, we strongly encourage those without tickets not to come to MetLife Stadium on show days,” said MetLife Stadium on social media the afternoon of Wednesday, May 24. “Event tickets corresponding to that evening's concert are required to access the parking lots.”

The parking lots will be at “maximum capacity,” read the advisory.

Merchandise

The MetLife Stadium Flagship Store will be open to the public 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25 to sell tour merchandise. The new “Midnights (Til Dawn Edition)” deluxe album special edition CD will be available only at MetLife starting at 12:30 p.m. Friday. This CD will have a never before heard “Midnights” vault track called “You’re Losing Me.”

The shows are sold out. Ticket prices began at $1,200 on the secondary market as of press time.

Who needs a ticket: All guests over 34 inches in height must have a ticket to enter MetLife Stadium. Children up to 34 inches may enter MetLife Stadium free but must share a seat with an accompanying ticketed adult. Occasionally, for select non-NFL events, another policy may be in place.

Ticket office locations: There are ticket offices located at each of the entrance gates to assist with ticket sales and the reprint of lost/stolen tickets. Please note there may be a fee associated with a ticket reprint. Locations that are open will vary by event.

Ticket office hours: The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. On event days, the ticket office will open approximately 3 hours prior to event time.

If you have obtained tickets in non-accessible seating and require the accessible features of these seating sections, call 201-559-1515 to make arrangements for accessible seating in advance of the event. If you have obtained seating in an accessible section and do not require the features of this type of seating, call 201-559-1515 to exchange your seating into a non-accessible section based on availability.

Ticket will-call: Ticketmaster will-call is available at any open ticket window. Guests who are picking up tickets at will-call will need picture ID, their confirmation number and the credit card with which the tickets were purchased in order to pick up the tickets. For select events, specialty will-call may vary. Please see the nearest team member for details.

Taylor Swift's Sweet Onstage Reaction to Football Lyric Amid Travis Kelce Romance Will Feel Like Flying

Taylor swift couldn't help but react to a lyric about dating a football player in her song "fifteen" during her june 2 eras tour concert in lyon, france..

Taylor Swift was feeling the alchemy during a recent Eras Tour stop.

The "Fortnight" singer had an adorable reaction to singing a lyric that called to mind boyfriend Travis Kelce 's profession at her June 2 show in Lyon, France.

In a video shared to TikTok , Taylor was seen sporting a wide grin and blushing as she performed her Fearless track "Fifteen."

"In your life, you'll do things greater than dating the boy on the football team," she sang, before laughing to herself. "I didn't know it at fifteen."

After the crowd erupted in cheers over her cheeky delivery, the 34-year-old threw her head back before continuing on to sing the next line.

Fans were quick to draw a connection between Taylor's reaction and her romance with Travis, who she began dating last summer .

"Our girl has got her forever man," one user commented under the video, "sooooo cuteeee."

Another fan joked about what Taylor must have been thinking while singing those words, writing, "She's like well that's ironic."

Of course, that's not the only time Travis got a subtle shoutout during her concert. Back in May, fans also caught a nod  to the Kansas City Chiefs tight end that was added into the choreography for Taylor's  Tortured Poets Department  segment of the show.

During "So High School," the Grammy winner and her back-up dancers performed the swag-surf—a move Travis and his teammates often do to celebrate a win—while sitting on bleachers.

The new setlist addition certainly earned approval from Travis, who shared he had a "blast" watching the updated version of the show in Paris alongside Taylor's pal Gigi Hadid and her boyfriend Bradley Cooper .

"It was an all-around lovely night," the NFL star told brother Jason Kelce during a May 15 episode of their New Heights podcast. "I don't know if they're just getting better or if I'm just forgetting how they are."

Travis added, "It was electric."

Keep reading to relive Taylor and Travis' love story.

July 2023: So, Make the Friendship Bracelets

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce 's love story began in July 2023, when the singer's Eras Tour made a stop at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.

As a huge Swiftie, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end caught the show with hopes of giving Taylor a friendship bracelet with his number on it . However, he failed to complete the pass due to her pre-show rituals.

"I was disappointed that she doesn't talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings," Travis shared on the July 26 episode of his  New Heights podcast. "So, I was a little butt-hurt I didn't get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her."

Summer 2023: This Is Him Trying

After publicly recounting his fumble—a move Taylor would later describe as "metal as hell" —Travis decided to shoot his shot and invite the Grammy winner to watch the Chiefs play at Arrowhead Stadium.

"I threw it out there, I threw the ball in her court," he shared on The Pat McAfee Show . "I told her, you know, 'I've seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead, you might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one's a little more lit.' So, we'll see what happens in the near future."

August 2023: Enchanted to Meet You

Travis was rocking a mustache—which he debuted in August during training camp—when he was first introduced to Taylor .

As he later noted of the era, "That 'stache and the 87 jersey was pretty iconic there for a little bit, and I had it when I met Taylor for the first time."

September 2023: Sparks Fly

By early September, a source close to the situation told E! News that Travis and Taylor were " texting and talking here and there ."

"It's been very low-key," the insider explained, "as he's been in season."

September 2023: Cheer Captain

Accepting Travis' invite, Taylor joined the athlete's mom Donna Kelce at Arrowhead Stadium to watch him and the Chiefs take on the Chicago Bears. After the game, Taylor and Travis were seen packing PDA at a local bar .

Though folklore had it that it was the couple's first in-person meeting, the "Karma" singer later clarified the two had spent a "significant amount of time" getting to know each other beforehand.

As Taylor noted, "We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date."

October 2023: Team Up

As an indication that the relationship was heating up, Taylor brought her squad —including friends Blake Lively , Ryan Reynolds , Sophie Turner , Hugh Jackman , Sabrina Carpenter and Antoni Porowski —to watch the Chiefs play against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

October 2023: It's Nice to Have a Friend

Another sign that Travis could be The 1 ? Taylor started bonding with Brittany Mahomes —the wife of Travis' BFF and teammate Patrick Mahomes —in and outside of NFL games .

October 2023: Welcome to New York

The couple took their romance to TV, making a surprise appearance on the Oct. 14 episode of Saturday Night Live . Their Big Apple takeover also included the after-party for the NBC sketch show and a date night at the Waverly Inn .

November 2023: Karma Is Her Boyfriend

During a bye week, Travis traveled down to Argentina to catch the South American leg of Taylor's Eras Tour. Not only did the NFL star bond with Taylor's dad , Scott Swift , at the Nov. 11 show in Buenos Aires, but he also got a special shoutout from the stage.

" Karma is that guy on the Chiefs ," Taylor sang, "coming straight home to me."

After the show, the Midnights  artist was seen running up to Travis backstage and greeting him with a passionate kiss .

December 2024: Speak Now

Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis' games.

"I'm going to see him do what he loves, we're showing up for each other, other people are there and we don't care," she told Time . "The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you're seeing someone."

December 2023: You, Who Charmed Her Dad

The music superstar turned Travis' Dec. 17 game into a family affair, bringing her dad to cheer on her man .

January 2024: All the Midnights

Taylor and Travis spent their first New Year's Eve together, sharing a romantic kiss when the clock struck midnight on Jan. 1.

January 2024: Chosen Family

Continuing to bond with Travis' family, Taylor hung out with his brother Jason Kelce and sister-in-law Kylie Kelce at the Chiefs' game against the Buffalo Bills.

January 2024: Saved by the Perfect Kiss

Taylor joined Travis on the football field when the Chiefs won the AFC Championship , a victory that cemented the team's spot in the 2024 Super Bowl . The couple shared a celebratory kiss before exchanging the L-word .

"Tay, I'm gonna enjoy with the guys," he told her. "I love you—so much it's not funny."

February 2024: Super Bowl Champs

The pair locked lips on the field after Travis led the Kansas City Chiefs to victory on Feb. 11, 2024 in Las Vegas.

February 2024: TikTok Official

Taylor posted footage of Travis on social media for the first time Feb. 12, poking fun at how she took her parents clubbing with the athlete after the Super Bowl.

Going to Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Edinburgh? All you need to know about her Murrayfield Stadium dates

Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour

Swifties across the country have been reaching whole new levels of excitement as Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour lands in the UK this week.

After tickets sold out last year for the hotly-anticipated dates , Taylor has been performing across The US and Europe to thousands of adoring fans .

The Blank Space singer, 33, treats Swifties to three hours of hits each night, playing tracks from releases such as Fearless and Red, plus her latest number one album, The Tortured Poets Department .

Ahead of her concerts in Liverpool , Cardiff , London , and Dublin , the Grammy winner is playing three concerts in the Scottish city of Edinburgh – on Friday, June 7, Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9.

With Paramore as her support act, one of the world’s biggest pop stars will perform at the BT Murrayfield Stadium.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the venue where Taylor is going to be strutting her stuff…

What is the capacity of Murrayfield Stadium Edinburgh?

Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh

According to VisitScotland , BT Murrayfield Stadium is the largest stadium in Scotland and can hold 67,144 people.

Murrayfield is usually a sports stadium and is commonly referred to as the home of Scottish Rugby.

On April 21, 1925, Scotland marked a triumph over their ‘Auld Enemy’ rivals, England, in achieving a Grand Slam with the inauguration of the Murrayfield Stadium.

Taylor Swift is not the first famous musician to play at the stadium – One Direction, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Robbie Williams, Foo Fighters, Madonna, and The Rolling Stones have all chosen the venue for their Scottish tour shows in the past.

What is the seating plan of Murrayfield Stadium Edinburgh?

Murrayfield comprises two tiers of banked seating and a large standing-only area in front of the stage.

Murrayfield Stadium seating plan

What were the Eras Tour ticket packages for the Edinburgh show?

Depending on what Swifties paid for their tickets and the packages they opted for, they’ll be in different parts of the venue.

  • Seated ticket – £58.65 – £194.75
  • General admission standing – £110.40
  • Front standing – £172.25.

You can find out more with our complete guide to Taylor’s VIP packages for a refresher on what merchandise and extra goodies you should receive if you purchased one.

Does Murrayfield Stadium have a roof and what will the Edinburgh weather be like?

Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour

While we can always rely on Taylor Swift to show up and put on an epic performance, alas, the weather isn’t always on our side .

Consequently, it might be worth taking a waterproof jacket to the Edinburgh dates, just in case!

While the sun is likely to be out at some point and chances of a downpour are slim, there is a small chance of a shower this weekend.

Otherwise, it’s looking to be dry for the gigs at Murrayfield, albeit a bit breezy for fans in the higher sections of the stadium.

So, make sure you either come prepared or do enough dancing to get your blood pumping – not that we need to tell you twice.

What to expect from Taylor’s Edinburgh shows

Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour

Taylor Swift will perform a revamped Eras Tour set in the UK , featuring changes to her setlist after the show’s American run.

The global start initially rejigged her concert ahead of the European leg, which kicked off in Paris at the beginning of May.

She cut several songs from previous eras, such as Long Live from Speak Now and Tolerate It from evermore.

But, to make up for it, Taylor is showcasing her latest record in all its glory, adding tracks such as But Daddy I Love Him, Down Bad, Fortnight, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, and I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.

It’s safe to say the staging is nothing less than iconic, with several additional costume changes and dance numbers.

As ever, though, Taylor will be singing ‘surprise songs’ on the UK leg, so don’t fret! More recently, the star has been doing ‘mash-ups’ of several hits on both piano and guitar, so start placing your bets, Scottish Swifites, over what you might get…
