MUST STAY RESORT Honestly, the whole resort is like it's come straight out of a brochure. Beautiful views of the beach, amazing facilities and accommodation, not to mention the most friendly and approachable staff there to help whenever you need. I celebrated my 21st here the other night and surprised me with a birthday cake and even sang me a happy birthday! Oh I forgot to mention how good the bungalow villas and their facilities?! So good and right on the ocean! Special thanks to Agus from Management. Always asking if we needed anything and always up for a chat and cracking a few jokes. It's staff like him that made this stay the best I've ever had in Bali. Definitely coming back here again

A very special piece of paradise! Excellent accommodation by the pool. The staff were excellent - nothing was too hard. The accommodation package included hotel transfers, and excellent and very generous daily breakfast and boat to the island as well as many activities such as the pontoon, beach snorkeling, canoes and SUP equipment. Great value and a good introduction to the island and its surrounds. We also chose to do additional water activities which were very easy to organise and the dive centre staff in particular were excellent with the kids. Good location for the beach but also access to some other restaurants, shops etc. We will definitely be back to this special little piece of paradise.

Paradise found. I stayed in a lumbung right on the beach and had one of the most relaxing and idyllic 4 days of my life. At night in a comfy air conditioned room the lapping of the ocean guarantees a great night’s sleep and in the morning you jump into a pristine sea at the foot of your staircase or one of the resort’s great pools. The ever helpful staff never stop smiling and the food in both restaurants is excellent. If you feel like a change of scene, hire a bike or golf buggy and explore the other great restaurants and bars nearby. There were children in our group who were joyfully entertained with a selection of pools, the sea, a pontoon with slides, paddle boards etc. I will be back!

Your private charter begins with a pickup from your hotel or villa in a private and fully air-conditioned vehicle that whisks you to our start point at Serangan Harbour. After a welcome drink, you will set sail for the island of Nusa Lembongan , Nusa Ceningan &/or Nusa Penida , enjoying a platter of local fruits on the way. Cruise along while ambient music plays onboard your chosen vessels sound system as you settle into the days relaxing pace. The islands are an approximate 60 minute cruise away and the day is yours to do with what you will.

Itineraries for your day cruise can be tailored to include more of the things that you and your guests prefer. After enjoying either your first dip in one of the islands many palm-lined tropical bays, you can take in the beauty of Nusa Penida’s rugged southern coastlines or go snorkelling with the friendly rainbow-coloured tropical fish, before enjoying a freshly prepared BBQ of seafood and chicken satays with a variety of sides. After enjoying lunch, you are at complete liberty to do as much as or as little as you like. Your charter includes full use of the boats toys which may include Jet Skies, Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP), Towable Inflatables, Knee Boards, Fun Fishing, Water Skis or Kayaks, depending on which of our private yachts you have chosen.

Experience either a morning or afternoon on the water with a private charter luxury cruise. Your experience starts with a private car transfer from your hotel or villa. Step aboard your chosen boat, and drink in hand find your place to relax on the boat and take in the views of Bali’s coastal scenery, backed by rugged volcanoes and the Indian Ocean.

On the half day cruise, you’ll spend time exploring the waters around Sanur and Nusa Dua, and enjoying life on a boat in the tropics. You may like to dive in for a swim in a bay, or go stand up paddle boarding. If you want to take things easy, relax on board or on the large inflatable raft. Canapés and gourmet bites can be served on request and ambient music provides the perfect backing toy our day.

Between a city great and a paradise island, enjoy a phinisi small-ship cruise among Indonesia’s stunningly remote islands. You’ll start in Singapore, marvelling at its futurism and enjoying an included afternoon tea in its colonial icon – Raffles Hotel. Your island-hopping cruise will then bring you among white-sand beaches, Komodo dragons and world-class dive spots, with complimentary activities ranging from kayaking to snorkelling. Either side, you’ll be treated to luxury pool-villa stays on both Bali’s untouched west coast and in artsy, impossibly green Ubud. Your flight hop to Bali, bookended by private transfers, will see you to Ubud – the island’s green heart. Your ultra-chic mountain villa is set on the island’s quiet, untouched west coast, featuring its own private infinity pool, butler service and fantastic views of the surrounding rice paddies. The spa and restaurants are excellent – as is the next-door black-sand beach. There’s a range of complimentary activities, from daily rice-terrace walks to yoga and tai-chi classes.

This industry is expected to grow as wealthy people want to visit exotic destinations and enjoy new experiences. However, it’s worth pointing out that not all high-cost or luxury vacations meet high-end clients’ expectations.

What are luxury vacations that travelers often regret? We spoke with Aaron Sutherland, the founder of Jetsetter Lifestyle , an exclusive travel agency that curates unique tourist experiences with insider information, so that he could share luxuries past clients have regretted.  

Private Island Resorts

When you first hear about a private island resort, the idea seems enticing, but the isolation becomes monotonous, and the lofty price tag isn’t worth it.

“While alluring in theory, many private islands lack the diverse activities, dining options and cultural immersion that sophisticated travelers look for,” Sutherland shared.

These luxury vacations aren’t worth it because they often start at $15,000 per night, which rarely justifies the limited experience. 

‘Cookie-Cutter’ Luxury Cruises

“Mass-market luxury cruises, while comfortable, often follow predictable itineraries and lack personalized service,” Sutherland said. “The crowds and standardized excursions can leave high-end clients feeling uninspired.” 

This high-end experience isn’t always worth the cost because, at $10,000 per person, many feel that they don’t get much out of it.

Overhyped Bucket List Destinations

Many dream destinations are praised as mandatory “bucket list” ideas when, in reality, they are a letdown. 

“Certain destinations, like over-touristed European capitals or overcrowded safari parks, can feel underwhelming in reality,” Sutherland said.

What are specific examples of overhyped destinations that travelers often regret?

1. Santorini, Greece

Sutherland noted, “While undeniably picturesque, Santorini’s crowds, inflated prices and lackluster beaches often disappoint.”

Alternative option: Milos or Folegandros if you’re looking for a similar Cycladic charm with fewer tourists and more authentic, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. 

2. Bali, Indonesia

Bali’s fame appears to have led to over-tourism and a loss of its original allure, leaving many travelers disappointed.

3. Tulum, Mexico

Even though the town is still visually stunning, Tulum’s rapid development has resulted in overpriced accommodations and crowded beaches. Most travelers feel that influencers have ruined the location.

Alternative: Holbox for a more relaxed, less commercialized Mexican beach destination. 

4. Machu Picchu, Peru

“While a UNESCO World Heritage site, the crowds and strict regulations can detract from the experience,” Sutherland said.

Even though this is still a popular location, many luxury tourists have pointed out that it’s overcrowded. 

Alternative: Choquequirao for a similar Inca Trail experience with far fewer tourists. 

5. Dubai, UAE

According to traveler comments, Dubai’s attractions can sometimes feel artificial and lack cultural depth because of their modernity. 

Alternative: Oman for a more authentic Arabian experience with stunning landscapes and rich heritage.

Sutherland elaborated, “The high cost of accommodations and activities ($10,000+ per week) often doesn’t align with the actual experience, which can be marred by crowds and commercialization.”

‘Instagrammable’ Retreats

You may be tempted to visit if you see an image of a destination enough times on social media. Multiple wellness or general retreats feel like they’re worth visiting when you first hear about them. 

Sutherland noted, “While stunning on social media, many wellness or yoga retreats prioritize aesthetics over substance.”

What are specific examples of luxury retreat vacations that travelers often regret?

1. Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa

This retreat can feel overcrowded and commercialized, lacking the personalized touch of a truly luxurious retreat that travelers are seeking.

Alternative: Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort, offers a highly personalized, tech-driven wellness experience on a secluded Hawaiian island. 

2. Red Mountain Resort, Utah

Despite offering gorgeous scenery and outdoor activities, the accommodations and amenities have been described as dated. 

Alternative: Amangiri, Utah, provides an ultra-luxurious desert escape with world-class spa treatments.

3. The Ashram, California

Travelers have regretted this retreat because of the Ashram’s strict rules and spartan accommodations that may not appeal to everyone. 

Alternative: Ananda in the Himalayas offers a more luxurious, holistic approach to wellness.

Sutherland pointed out that the focus on photo ops and superficial experiences can leave clients feeling unfulfilled despite the $5,000-plus per week cost to stay at the retreat.

The goal is to work with a travel agency that has local contacts who can unlock exclusive experiences that aren’t available to the general public. This ranges from private museum tours to Michelin-starred chef dinners.

Silversea Unveils Silver Dawn’s 2027 World Cruise

Silversea unveiled The Three Oceans, its biggest world cruise yet, sailing aboard the Silver Dawn for 149 days and departing on January 8, 2027, according to a press release.

Departing from Los Angeles and arriving in Copenhagen on June 7, 2027, the world tour calls in 80 destinations across 35 countries on five continents, including 20 maiden calls for a Silversea world voyage. 

“Calling in more destinations than any voyage in Silversea’s history, we proudly unveil The Three Oceans World Cruise 2027, which broadens our industry-leading offering of extended voyages,” said Bert Hernandez, president of Silversea. 

“Traveling aboard Silver Dawn, one of the smallest ships to embark on a World Cruise, our guests will venture off the beaten path to 80 destinations on five continents over 149 days, with the longest stays in port of any World Cruise. The 149-day voyage will explore the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans, connecting over 50 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Guests will journey through the Pacific Ocean, from Los Angeles to Brisbane, visiting Hilo, Kahului, and Honolulu in Hawaii; Nuku Hiva; Rangiroa; Moorea; Bora Bora; Apia; Lautoka; Champagne Beach; Lifou; Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays; Darwin; and Brisbane.

Exploring the Indian Ocean, destinations include Bali, Semarang, Singapore, Colombo, the Maldives, Seychelles, Reunion, South Africa and more.

Departing Cape Town before sailing along the west coast of Africa, the Silver Dawn will visit Namibia, Angola, Ghana, and Gambia, before arriving in Dakar. Praia, Arrecife, Agadir and Casablanca, among others.
