London is the undisputed world capital of football. No other city can boast as many professional football clubs, or such collection of large football stadiums. A London football trip is a must-do experience for any football fan.

London Football – an introduction

London’s football landscape is still changing rapidly. While its collection of football stadiums is already beyond impressive, new football stadiums continue to be built and in a few years London will be able to show off five 60,000+ football stadiums. There may come a time that London will be able to host a World Cup on its own.

London has one of the absolute temples of football in the form of Wembley , and large existing modern stadiums in the form of the Emirates Stadium and West Ham’s redeveloped London Stadium . Spurs will soon add their own large new arena to this, and Chelsea are likely to follow suit in a few years, though both White Hart Lane and Stamford Bridge are fine stadiums by themselves.

But London is not all about large modern football stadiums. In fact, what makes the city so attractive is its variety from large to small. There are, for example, Fulham’s Craven Cottage , perfectly located on the banks of the Thames with its magnificent classic main stand, Crystal Palace’s atmospheric Selhurst Park , Leyton Orient’s quirky Matchroom Stadium , and Wimbledon’s cosy Kingsmeadow.

Further out, there are some beautiful old classic stands in places like  Luton and Southend, intimate grounds in the likes of Crawley and Stevenage, and still plenty of terraces for more of an old school football experience.

You’ll quickly make your way through London from one ground to another with London’s excellent transport connections, and with a spread out schedule you will easily be able to pack multiple games in one weekend. A London football trip is still nearly impossible to beat.

London Football – the stadiums

London Football – getting around

Getting around London isn’t particularly hard with the excellent coverage that the underground network provides. Most London stadiums are near or at reasonable walking distance from a tube station, which makes getting to these stadiums an easy affair.

However, there are a few exceptions, even in London, and in these cases a train ride is generally required to get to the stadium. While perhaps not as frequent as the tube, the train system isn’t particularly hard to navigate either and trains still tend to run regularly and all London stadiums can be reached on your Oyster transport card so no need to buy separate tickets.

Of course, most stadiums are served by buses as well, though few visitors will end up using these unless you’re travelling local. If that’s the case, it’s worth checking on of the journey planner apps to see if a bus is quicker for you.

City-wide journey planners such as the Citymapper app, Google Maps , and the TFL website will help you with your journey. They do cover trains as well, but train journey planners such as nationalrail.co.uk and thetrainline.com might come in handy as well.

Get on the tube on a Saturday and you’re bound to bump into loads of different football fans travelling in, out, through, and around the city. The tube and trains rarely get too busy before a match, but schedule in a bit of queuing after the match if it’s one of the larger stadiums.

Below table gives you a very rough idea how long it will take you to travel to each stadium from three central London destinations.

North West London

Wembley Stadium is as well-connected as you would expect: three tube lines, the Bakerloo, Jubilee, and Metropolitan line, all stop close to the stadium, though most will choose the quick Metropolitan. If it’s a sell-out, there’ll be a bit of queuing after the match, but crowd management is excellent.

A few stops further up the Jubilee line there’s Barnet’s The Hive Stadium. It’s a 10-minute walk from Canons Park station to the stadium, but it’s an easy journey.

Not officially in London, but still within the M25 ring road and in the London metro area, is Watford’s Vicarage Road. It’s still about just on the tube, at the end of the Metropolitan line, though catching a train from Marylebone is generally quicker.

North London

The Emirates Stadium is equally well connected with both the frequent Piccadilly and Victoria lines running past the ground. Again, there’ll likely be a bit of post-match queuing for the tube station.

Spurs’ White Hart Lane, however, isn’t on the tube unless you fancy the 30-minute walk from Seven Sisters station. For those who don’t, catching a bus from Seven Sisters or a quick train ride from Liverpool Street station is the way to go. Prepare for some post-match queues for the train station though.

East London

West Ham’s new London Stadium is located right next to one of London’s prime transport hubs: Stratford. You’ve got the choice between two frequent tube lines, the Central and Jubilee line, an overground line, the DLR, and many train and bus services.

Leyton Orient’s The Matchroom Stadium is only one stop beyond Stratford on the Central line: station Leytonstone. Very easy to reach, and no worries about queuing after the match.

South East London

South East London is train territory, though you can reach Millwall’s The Den by tube if you don’t mind a 20-minute walk from tube station Bermondsey on the Jubilee line. Otherwise, catch a train from London Bridge station.

No tube option for Charlton’s The Valley though, which can also be reached by train from London Bridge station.

South London

The train is also the only way to reach Crystal Palace’s Selhurst Park. Catch a train from London Bridge (or Waterloo) station for the 15-minute journey.

It’s a slightly longer train journey to Wimbledon’s tiny Kingsmeadow stadium from Waterloo station, to which you need to add another 10 minutes walking.

West London

West London is back on the tube again, but it’s not always the quickest and highest frequency lines, for example in the case of Chelsea and Fulham, which are both on the District line, though the Piccadilly line offers an alternative for those willing to walk a bit more.

QPR’s Loftus Road is one of the most central stadiums and easy to reach with the Central Line or Hammersmith & City / Circle Line, but Brentford’ Griffin Park, further west, is a bit more of a challenge with a train journey from Waterloo or a significant walk (or bus) from South Ealing station on the Piccadilly Line.

Outside London

Obviously, if you’re travelling outside of London a train journey is always needed, which can be a quick one or a slower one. Depending on where the stadium is located you may then need to add a short walk, a long walk, or a bus ride to your journey.

In the case of Gillingham, Luton, and Southend it’s only a short walk from the station, in the case of Crawley and Stevenage either a longer walk or a short bus ride are needed, but in the case of Reading and Wycombe you’ll need to add a (shuttle) bus ride to your train journey.

In all cases, within and outside London, always make sure to check your journey beforehand as there are regularly changes to the service on the weekends due to maintenance works.

London has six airports with international flights: Heathrow Airport, Gatwick Airport, London City Airport, Luton Airport, Stansted Airport, and Southend Airport. The first two have most intercontinental flights, while the last three and Gatwick have most low-cost flights.

In general, it doesn’t matter too much which airport you fly into as all have rail (train / tube) and often bus (cheaper) connections into London, and you’ll be travelling through central London anyway to get to your stadium, often even if they’re in the same part of London.

Of course, if you’re staying in Southend, try to fly on Southend Airport, and if you’re staying in Luton, get a flight to Luton Airport. Furthermore, if you have the choice, Gatwick Airport might be convenient if you’re staying near Selhurst Park, while Heathrow works well if you’re staying near Griffin Park.

London Football – where to stay

It’s easy to find your way around London so in general there’s no need to stay close to the match you’re attending. Most people will therefore decide to pick any hotel in London that they consider good value and fits within their budget, and from there make their way to the match and back.

Of course, you may have a reason to want to stay particularly close to a stadium, perhaps to be back at your hotel quickly if it’s an evening game, or just because you like the idea. In some cases that’s pretty easy, in others a bit of a challenge.

In central London, both Stamford Bridge and (to a lesser extent) Craven Cottage are located at close distance from the South Kensington and Earls Court areas that are packed with tourist hotels. There are plenty hotels not too far from QPR’s Loftus Road as well, which is also relatively close to the Bayswater area, another popular hotel area.

Further out of the centre, there is a decent choice of hotels near both Wembley Stadium and London Stadium, even often a little more affordable than in the centre, and with the excellent transport connections you’re quickly in central London.

In some cases, for example the Emirates Stadium, Griffin Park, and Vicarage Road, choice is limited, but there’s still the odd chain hotel and a few local ones around, but in other cases you’ll be lucky to even find a basic local hotel. Of the larger stadiums, White Hart Lane is the only one with no hotel around (though there’ll likely be one soon once the new stadium is ready). Of course, you will always be able to find an apartment rental through the likes of Airbnb if you must stay close.

Outside of London, the choice of hotels will likely be a bit more limited, but there will nearly always be the odd hotel in the local city centre or a roadside hotel not too far from the stadium.

London Football – how to get tickets

Getting tickets for one of the London clubs can be very easy or ridiculously hard depending on the club. If the club doesn’t play in the Premier League, you can nearly always just show up on the day and buy your tickets at the stadium before the match, though if it’s an important match or a local derby it’s always better to buy in advance plus it saves you some possible queuing at the ticket office before the match.

The one exception here is Wimbledon. Kingsmeadow is a small stadium, and while Wimbledon don’t sell out every match, they do occasionally, so for any high-profile match it’s recommended to buy in advance.

If it’s a Premier League match though, getting tickets might be harder. In all cases, you’ve got to buy in advance as most London Premier League clubs tend to sell out regularly.

The easiest to get tickets for are normally Watford and West Ham, unless one of the top teams comes to visit. It is still necessary to buy (well) in advance for a regular Premier League match, preferably when they go on general sale, but if you do you’ll normally be able to get some tickets.

Getting tickets for Spurs didn’t use to be too difficult either, but it’s their last season at White Hart Lane so demand is up. It will likely be easier again if they move to the much-larger Wembley next season.

There’s a catch with Crystal Palace as they only sell tickets to club members so you need to buy a membership on top of your tickets to get to the match. Once you’ve got that done, it’s not too hard to get a ticket for a regular league match if bought in advance, but of course it adds to the price if it’s a one-off visit.

The toughest ones are Arsenal and Chelsea, who both sell out every match. Just because demand is so high, you’ll need to buy a club membership to be able to get tickets as all tickets tend to sell before they go on general sale. You may be luckier with an early round Cup match or low-profile Champions League match, but if you really want to attend a match of these two, you’ve got to invest in a club membership. Once done, make sure you buy your tickets directly when the tickets go on sale for your membership level.

All clubs sell their tickets online, which is the best way to buy your tickets if you do so in advance. Most websites are rather easy to use and they ship your tickets or you’ll be able to pick them up from the ticket office on the day of the match.

Tickets for the England National team aren’t generally too hard to get either. Few qualifying matches and friendlies sell out, but make sure you buy in advance online.

London Football – Stadium Tours

If you’re in town during a week with no matches, missed out on tickets for one of the big clubs, or for some other reason can’t make it to a match, then a stadium tour can be a good alternative. It will also give you the opportunity to see parts of the stadium that you won’t be able to see during a match.

Wembley, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, and West Ham all run many tours a day, though Spurs have reduced tours now that White Hart Lane is in its last months. In some cases these are self-guided, in other cases a guide will show you around the stadium. Sometimes booking is necessary (or strongly recommended to not miss out) while in other cases you can just show up. Booking can be made online through the official websites.

Some smaller clubs offer tours too, e.g. Fulham, Reading, and QPR, though not as regular as the big clubs, ranging from once a day to once every other week so make sure to look up the current schedule on their websites and to book your spot where required.

Many clubs also offer special premium tours, e.g. guided by an ex-player, or on the day of the match to witness preparations. They will list these options on their official website.

Wembley Stadium Tours - Important Update

With the news that the Queen's funeral will now be held on Monday 19th September, we can confirm that the Wembley Stadium Tour will be closed on that day as a mark of respect as people come together to honour Her Majesty, after 70 years of exemplary service to the nation and the Commonwealth.

If you have a pre-booked ticket for the Tour on Monday 19th September 2022, we would ask you to contact our Customer Services Team on [email protected] to reschedule your visit for a future date.

If you have pre-booked via a trade third-party, please contact them directly.

Für Fußball-Fans: Auf Stadion-Tour durch London

Geht es um Fußball, genießt London international einen Ausnahmestatus: Denn nirgendwo sonst auf der Welt ist die Dichte an hochkarätigen Fußballvereinen so hoch wie hier. Fast 20 Teams sind in der britischen Hauptstadt beheimatet, die Hälfte davon spielt in den beiden höchsten englischen Fußball-Ligen.Immer mit dabei – eine große Portion Tradition, Rivalität und Derby-Stimmung. Immerhin spielen allein sechs Mannschaften gemeinsam in der Premiere League. Für Fußball-Fans lohnt es sich also auf jeden Fall, neben dem üblichen Sightseeing ausreichend Zeit für eine Tour durch die Stadien der Stadt einzuplanen.

Fußballvereine von Weltformat

Wer in der laufenden Champions League-Saison gerne Spitzenfußball aus London sehen möchte, hat keine sonderlich große Auswahl: Von den englischen Vertretern in der Liga der besten europäischen Fußballmannschaften kommt nur der FC Chelsea aus London – dem zugleich als letztem Londoner Club gelang, sich in die Liste der Sieger einzutragen. Auf internationalem Niveau hatten in der Geschichte der Champions League deutlich häufiger die Rivalen aus der „Provinz“ Erfolg (wie zuletzt der FC Liverpool).

Deutlich bessere Chancen haben Fans hingegen, in der Hauptstadt Premiere League-Fußball zu erleben. Sechs von insgesamt 20 Mannschaften treten aktuell in der höchsten englischen Spielklasse an, entsprechend häufig ist auch Derby-Stimmung angesagt. Mit dem FC Arsenal, dem FC Chelsea und den Tottenham Hotspurs zählen dabei gleich drei zum erweiterten alljährlichen Favoritenkreis um die Meisterschaft.Dazu kommen drei weitere Teams, die in der zweithöchsten Liga spielen. Die Football League ist übrigens die ältere der beiden Ligen: Die Premiere League besteht erst seit 1992, der Vorläufer der English Football League (die erst seit 2016 so genannt wird) läuft bereits seit 1888. Zu dem Zeitpunkt existierten die meisten Londoner Fußballvereine schon, nur West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic, der FC Chelsea und ganz knapp der Brentford FC wurden nach der Aufnahme des Ligabetriebs gegründet. Entsprechend groß ist das Traditionsbewusstsein bei allen Londoner Vereinen, wovon sich Fans und Interessierte nicht nur in den Stadien, sondern in vielen Fällen in den dazugehörigen Museen überzeugen können. Es gibt also viel zu sehen und zu erleben, nicht nur für eingefleischte Fußball-Fans. So viel, dass die Stadion-Tour am besten auf mehrere Tage ausgedehnt wird, um alle Eindrücke in Ruhe genießen zu können. Immerhin liegen die Stadien der zahlreichen Vereine über das gesamte Stadtgebiet verteilt – und mit einem ausreichenden Polster bleibt genug Zeit, auch einmal einen Blick abseits der Londoner Fußball-Welt zu riskieren.

Ein Name für die Fußballgeschichte: Das Wembley Stadion

Das größte Stadion des Vereinten Königreichs und das zweitgrößte Europas! Ohne Frage zählt es zu den berühmtesten Stadien der Welt, denn hier wurde schon mehrfach Fußballgeschichte geschrieben – aus Sicht deutscher Fußball-Fans sicher nicht immer eine erfreuliche. Das gilt übrigens in gleicher Weise für die Londoner Vereine. Zur Eröffnung von Old Wembley im April 1923 trat West Ham United im FA Cup-Finale gegen die Bolton Wanderers an und musste sich am Ende geschlagen geben.

Das Wembley Stadion ist in seinem fast 100jährigen Bestehen zu einer legendären Spielstätte geworden, die viele ebenso legendäre Spiele gesehen hat und die sich seit 2007 in einem sehr viel moderneren Gewand präsentiert. An die unverwechselbaren Twin Towers, die der ersten Version des Stadions seinen Spitznamen einbrachten, erinnert seit dem Neubau äußerlich nichts mehr. 

Von seiner Bedeutung hat das Stadion aber nichts verloren: Wie sein Vorgänger ist es der Austragungsort für die Heimspiele der englischen Nationalmannschaft, es beherbergte ebenfalls Olympische Spiele und ist weiterhin ein Dreh- und Angelpunkt im sportlichen wie kulturellen Lebens der Hauptstadt. Besucher*innen können sich davon einen eigenen Eindruck verschaffen, denn die Stadion-Tour erlaubt den Blick in viele Bereiche, darunter

• der Spielertunnel
• der Presseraum
• die Umkleidekabine der englischen Nationalmannschaft
• der Trophäenraum sowie
• die Königsloge.

Unterwegs im Norden Londons

Eine Rundreise zu den Stadien der Londoner Clubs lässt sich am besten nach einzelnen Gebieten aufteilen. Im Norden der Stadt warten dabei nicht nur zwei der prominentesten Vereine, sondern zugleich eine der erbittertsten Rivalitäten der Stadt.

Emirates Stadium, FC Arsenal

Die Heimstätte des FC Arsenal ist ähnlich wie das heutige Wembley Stadion ein relativ neuer Bau. Im Unterschied zum Nationalstadion wurde es aber nicht am selben Ort wie der Vorgängerbau errichtet. Was sich das Stadion jedoch erhalten hat – vermutlich nicht unbedingt zur Freude der Arsenal-Fans –, ist sein Spitzname.„The Library“ wird das Emirates von gegnerischen Fußball-Anhänger*innen gerne genannt, womit es ganz in der Tradition des früheren Highbury (eigentlich Arsenal Stadium) steht. Denn vielen englischen Fans ist es während ihrer Gastspiele bei Arsenal zu leise, zumindest im Vergleich zur Lautstärke in anderen Stadien.

Möglicherweise liegt das an der inzwischen anhaltenden Wartezeit auf einen weiteren Meistertitel. Denn die „Gunners“ haben es zuletzt im Jahr 2004 zur Meisterschaft gebracht. Mit insgesamt 13 Titeln in der Liga bleiben sie aber vorläufig das drittbeste englische Team – und das erfolgreichste in London. Eine ausführliche Audio-Tour und ein eigenes Museum gewähren den Besucher*innen einen Einblick die Arsenal-Welt.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Tottenham Hotspurs FC

Rund 30 Autominuten weiter nördlich vom Emirates liegt die ebenfalls äußerst moderne Spielstätte der Tottenham Hotspurs – zu nah, wie viele Spurs möglicherweise immer noch denken werden. Dabei lagen die Stadien der beiden Vereine ursprünglich noch dichter beieinander, der Zuzug des FC Arsenal aus einem anderen Teil Londons in ihr angestammtes Revier sorgte schon damals nicht für Sympathien auf Seiten der Spurs. Eine Rivalität, die nun bereits seit über 100 Jahren auf dem Rasen ausgetragen wird.

Dass die Gunners dabei nach Titeln deutlich die Nase vorn haben – die Spurs gewannen zuletzt 1961 ihre letzte von insgesamt zwei Meisterschaften – dürfte nicht unbedingt für entspanntere Verhältnisse sorgen. 

Anders als das neue Stadion, dass von den Anhänger*innen „New White Hart Lane“ genannt wird, weil direkt auf dem Grund seines Vorgängers errichtet wurde. Übrigens inklusive einer eigenen Brauerei und der längsten Bar Englands. Zur Stadion-Tour gehören die allerdings nicht, dafür gibt es selbstverständlich die Möglichkeit, hinter die Kulissen des Profifußballgeschäfts zu blicken.

Ein besonderes Highlight bietet das Tottenham Hotspur Stadium für mutige Besucher*innen und zwar abseits – beziehungsweise oberhalb – der Stadionränge: „The Dare Skywalk“ führt in fast 50 Meter Höhe über das Stadiondach hinaus. Eine spektakuläre Angelegenheit mit grandiosen Ausblicken.

Unterwegs im Westen Londons

Während das nördliche London vornehmlich von der Rivalität von Spurs und Gunners geprägt ist, geht es im Westen deutlich lebhafter zu. Grund hierfür ist die Nachbarschaft von gleich vier Vereinen.

Stamford Bridge, FC Chelsea

Die altehrwürdige Stamford Bridge komplettiert das Feld der drei größten und erfolgreichsten Londoner Clubs. „The Bridge“ kann auf ein über 140jähriges Bestehen zurückblicken, der FC Chelsea ist seit 1905 ein Teil davon. In dieser langen Zeit hat sich das Stadion vom Austragungsort für Leichtathletikwettkämpfe zum reinen Fußballtempel gewandelt.

Wobei das nicht vollkommen richtig ist: Denn an der Außenfassade sind Wohnhäuser, Hotels und Büros entstanden. Von außen ist die Stamford Bridge daher je nach Standort kaum als Fußballstadion zu erkennen. Im Inneren sieht das natürlich ganz anders aus, davon können sich Besucher*innen auf einer Tour mit eigenen Augen überzeugen. Das angeschlossene Museum führt danach noch durch die Geschichte von Stadion und Verein. Eine gute Gelegenheit, um in die Atmosphäre des englischen und internationalen Spitzenfußballs hineinzuschnuppern – und zwar nicht bloß aus der Zuschauerperspektive.

Übrigens umfasst der London Pass sowohl das Emirates Stadium als auch Wembley und die Stamford Bridge. Wer also tatsächlich eine Tour durch mehrere der Londoner Stadien plant und nebenbei noch weitere Sehenswürdigkeiten mitnehmen möchte, sollte über den Kauf ernsthaft nachdenken.

Craven Cottage, FC Fulham

Beinahe in Rufweite, ebenfalls im Stadtteil Fulham, liegt das Craven Cottage, Heimat des FC Fulham und aus verschiedenen Gründen sehenswert. Denn wer die Hochglanz-Glas-Fassaden des Emirates oder der New White Hart Lane vor Augen hat, fühlt sich hier in eine andere Zeit zurückversetzt.

Denn auch mehrere Renovierungen haben dem Stadion seinen alten Charme erhalten. Besucher*innen gelangen daher, wie seit dem Bau im Jahr 1896, durch die rote Backsteinfassade in das kleine, aber umso feinere Stadion. Direkt an der Themse gelegen dürfte Fußball-Romantiker*innen hier das Herz aufgehen. 

Ansonsten locken nicht nur die Tour bei „London’s original professional football club“, wie der Verein selbstbewusst von sich behauptet, sondern vor allem der eigenwillige Gegensatz zu vielen anderen Stadien. Der hat nämlich sogar noch Platz für eine wirkliche Besonderheit: Die namensgebende Jägerhütte ist nach wie vor Bestandteil des Stadions und dient heute als VIP-Lounge.

Übrigens hätte es für den FC Fulham und Fußball-Fans im Allgemeinen ganz anders ausgehen können. Die „Cottagers“ hatten bei der Fertigstellung der Stamford Bridge die Möglichkeit bekommen, ihre fußballerische Heimat in das neue Stadion zu verlegen. Man verzichtete – und gab so dem Rivalen FC Chelsea die Gelegenheit, sich in der unmittelbaren Nachbarschaft niederzulassen.

Nur eine der zahlreichen Geschichten der Rivalitäten, die sich im Westen Londons um den FC Fulham, den FC Chelsea sowie die Queens Park Rangers und den FC Brentford drehen. Für Fußball-Fans und London-Besucher*innen gibt es deshalb noch deutlich mehr zu entdecken, als die vorgestellte Auswahl aufzeigen konnte.

Geschichte und Bau des Wembley-Stadion

Das Wembley-Stadion war von Anfang an ein Privatstadion, um den Menschen die Möglichkeit zu geben, sich zu amüsieren (oft war es Fußball). Das Stadion wurde 1923 gebaut und kostete umgerechnet €850.000. Für die damalige Zeit war das eine riesige Menge Geld. Das Stadion wurde im Eiltempo gebaut und innerhalb eines Jahres fertiggestellt. Damals trug das Stadion den Namen Empire Stadium . Das Stadion war Austragungsort der Fußballweltmeisterschaft 1966 und der Europameisterschaftsendrunde 1996. Im Jahr 2002 wurde beschlossen, dass es Zeit für einen Neuanfang war, und das alte Stadion wurde abgerissen. Das neue Wembley-Stadion, das 2007 eröffnet wurde, wurde an derselben Stelle gebaut.

Das heutige Stadion ist ein Musterbeispiel für moderne Architektur, entworfen von den Architekten des bekannten Büros Foster + Partners. Mit einer Kapazität von 90 000 Plätzen ist das Wembley-Stadion das größte Hallenstadion in Europa. Sein wichtigstes Erkennungsmerkmal ist der beeindruckende Bogen, der das Stadion überragt und von ganz London aus zu sehen ist.

Wiederaufbau

Das neue Wembley-Stadion, wie wir es heute kennen, war zwischen 2000 und 2007 ein hartes Stück Arbeit, um das beste Nationalstadion der Welt zu bauen. Die Baukosten beliefen sich auf satte 1.000.000.000 €. Damit steht das Stadion an der Spitze der Liste der teuersten Renovierungen, die jemals an einem Stadion vorgenommen wurden. Das Eröffnungsspiel zwischen dem jungen England und dem jungen Italien war innerhalb kürzester Zeit ausverkauft und stellte einen Rekord auf. Noch nie hatten so viele Zuschauer ein Spiel zwischen zwei jungen Mannschaften besucht – 60.000. Die roten Sitze im Stadion wurden absichtlich gewählt, weil England bei der Weltmeisterschaft 1966 in Rot spielte und gewann.

Das Wembley-Stadion ist die Heimat der englischen Fußballnationalmannschaft. Neben internationalen Fußballspielen finden hier auch das FA-Cup-Finale, das Finale des Ligapokals, der Community Shield und die Playoffs für den Aufstieg in die Championship und die Premier League statt.

Am 3. April 2019 schrieb Son Heung-min Geschichte. Der Stürmer schoss das erste offizielle Tor im neuen Tottenham Hotspur Stadion für die Hotspurs gegen Crystal Palace in der Premier League. Zuvor hatte die Mannschaft eine ganze Weile im legendären Wembley-Stadion gegen den Ball getreten, da die Mannschaft mit dem Abriss des eigenen Stadions, dem White Hart Lane Stadion, ab 2017 zunächst seine Heimat verlor. Inzwischen ist das neue etwa eine Milliarde Pfund teure Tottenham Hotspur Stadium mit 62.062  Plätzen fertiggestellt.

Tour the Olimpico! The stadium is open to all from November 15

From November 15, the world-renowned stadium will open its doors to allow fans to browse its hallowed corridors, visiting everything from the changing rooms to the trophy hall and the Walk of Legends that immortalises some of the greats - from football, sport and music - to have graced the venue.

The tour is the result of a collaboration between AS Roma, SS Lazio and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

Tours will be offered in both English and Italian.

The new opening was officially inaugurated on Thursday, as representatives from all three parties involved embarked on the first version of the tour.

They were guided through the stadium and its glorious past - including the 1960 Olympic Games, the Athletics World Championships in 1974 and 1987 and the 1990 FIFA World Cup.

Serie A titles, other sporting events and spectacular musical performances are also recognised as part of the tour - along with a nod to the upcoming 2024 European Athletics Championships.

From pitchside to the media zone and the stands themselves, the tour covers all parts of the ground - and finishes at the Stadium Store, where attendees can purchase a memory of the experience.

West Ham’s London Stadium has had a dramatic makeover this summer as baseball returns to the UK.

Hammers supporters may not recognise their home ground, which has been transformed from football stadium into a state-of-the-art ballpark for the latest MLB London Series.

The football pitch has been replaced by a baseball diamond, astro turf outfield and reconfigured stands to give the London Stadium a completely different look.

The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies are the latest MLB outfits heading to the capital for two days of blockbuster baseball on June 8 and June 9.

It took 18 days for the impressive transformation to be completed, with MLB granted access on May 20 - just one day after West Ham’s final game of the Premier League season against champions Man CIty.

Over 144,000 square feet of synthetic turf and 345 tonnes of infield clay has been installed on top of West Ham’s football pitch, forming for the outfield, diamond and pitcher’s mound.
