At a distance of 215 km from Hyderabad, 360 km from Bangalore & 344 km from Vijayawada, Kurnool is one of the major towns in the state of Andhra Pradesh . It was the first capital of united Andhra Pradesh between 1 October 1953 and 31 October 1956. The town is built on the banks of Tungabhadra River. Kurnool is known as the gateway to the Rayalaseema region. It was earlier known as Kandenavolu, as it was a transit place on the southern banks of the Tungabhadra River and acted as a greasing place for the carts. It was ruled by Cholas and later by Kakatiya kings in the 12th and 13th Centuries. Later it came under the influence of Vijayanagar Kings and Achyuta Raya built the Kurnool Fort in 16th Century. It was briefly ruled by local rulers in 16th - 17th century. The town came under the control of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1686. Later the town was ruled by Nawabs from Dawood Khan to Gulam Rasool Khan. In 1839 the British Government took control of the region. The popular places to visit in the city are the ruins of the fort built by the Vijayanagar Kings, Konda Reddy Buruju and the tomb of Abdul Wahab. The construction of the fort dates back to 12th century when the city of Kurnool was used as a base for halting before crossing Tungabhadra River. As found in the historical records of Kurnool, this settlement was known as Kandanavōlu or Kandanōlu and served as a pit stop on the Tungabhadra River, where bullock cart caravans would stop on their way to the north or south. Although the town was inhabited for thousands of years, the city per se was not established until the 16th century. The earliest settlement of modern Kurnool dates back to the 11th century, when it was ruled by the Cholas, and later by the Kakatiya dynasty, the Vijayanagara Empire, Mughals, Nawabs, and finally by the British East India Company, before India’s independence.

The city enjoys a fertile plainland, fed by the water of the Tungabhadra River, as well as the Hundred and Neeva Rivers, which also flow through the city. The landscape is dotted with woodlands, grasslands, and naturally-formed, prehistoric caves.

The city’s major irrigation canal, the KC Canal or Kurnool-Cuddapah Canal was originally a Dutch construction. At that time, it was used for the transportation of people and goods. Much later, it became a canal for irrigation and supplying water to the city.

The best time to visit Málaga is over the summer season. However, here, the summer extends from late spring into autumn (from May through October). This is when the weather is at its prime and when everyone is out and about enjoying all that fantastic sun. Travelers can also expect plenty of fun summer festivals too, including the Málaga Fair in August, a week-long party that honors all the best parts of Andalusian culture. That said, even if you can't come during the summer, there are plenty of other times worth a visit.

"The shoulder seasons are a great time to visit Málaga. I recommend traveling in the spring (March to May) or fall (September to November)," Espinar said. "The temperatures will be mild, you’ll find smaller crowds, and you’ll have more energy for exploring the city and sights."

Rodley also advocates for the shoulder seasons in April and May and late September: "Visiting during the springtime, you can catch the gorgeous blossoms and flowering jacarandas of the parks and gardens while enjoying the moderate temperatures and fewer crowds when exploring the city and surrounding areas," Rodley explained. "Align your trip with Easter and you'll be able to experience the color, culture, and festivities of Holy Week parades. A visit in September is perfect for wine tours and sightseeing with fewer tourists. At this time of year, it may still be warm enough to enjoy the beach without having to contend for a space on the sand." And, as Espinar added, "If you choose to go in the winter (December to February), you’ll find the benefits of having milder and warmer weather than the rest of Spain. There will be fewer tourists and you’ll enjoy the city. Málaga also has stunning Christmas lights displays, which makes it a great December destination."

To visit this sunny destination, you can fly into Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport , one of the largest airports in Spain. The airport offers plenty of direct flights to cities around Europe and connections to cities around the world via airlines like LATAM, Air France, Easy Jet, and Emirates. The airport is also just a few miles outside of the city center, making it a convenient jumping-off point.

Visitors coming from spots like Madrid and Barcelona may decide to drive — and that's a fantastic idea, as you can drive along the Mediterranean on the AP-7 for a scenic journey.

Travelers can also get to Málaga by taking the train to the María Zambrano station . Trains run regularly from Madrid; the trip takes about three hours and costs around $75.

Getting Around

Renting a car is a great option for those who want to get out and explore beyond the city's bounds and see more of the Costa del Sol region. Car rentals are available at the airport and numerous locations in the city with major operators like Avis, Budget, and Dollar Car Rental.

Málaga also has a robust public transit system that guests can take advantage of during their stay, including both buses and a metro line, which covers most of the city. Travelers can get a single ticket or travel passes, which are easy to recharge online . There are plentiful taxis and Ubers available throughout Málaga, too.

Green Bay redistricting plan would align city voting wards with new state maps

GREEN BAY - The city of Green Bay would create four new voting wards and redraw the boundaries on two existing wards under a proposed map making its way to the Green Bay City Council.

The city's Protection and Policy Committee on Monday recommended the City Council adopt a new local ward map to align the city's voting districts with new state legislative district maps Gov. Tony Evers signed into law in February. The new maps must be approved by the City Council before they go into effect.

The map is used predominantly for City Council and Green Bay School District elections to determine where city residents go to vote and whom they vote for. If adopted, the new map would go into effect for both the August partisan primary elections and the November general election, Green Bay City Clerk Celestine Jeffreys said.

The new maps create four new wards. They also redraw boundary lines for three other wards, which could see some voters change polling places beginning in August.

Wisconsin's new legislative district maps forced Green Bay to change its maps

Evers signed new state Assembly and Senate district boundaries into law that in Green Bay split parts of Wards 11, 12, 37 and 45 into two Assembly districts. State law does not allow one ward to be divided among two Assembly districts.

The city proposed splitting four affected wards into two wards each along the Assembly District lines to comply with the new state maps. Three other ward boundaries were redrawn, too.

Voters on Green Bay's western, northern and southeastern edges will see new wards created

Here's how the new maps will divide each of the four wards in two.

Wards 11/11A: The current Ward 11 includes the area east of Main Street, south of East Mason Street, west of Edgewood Drive and north of the Green Bay-Bellevue boundary. On the new map, the area south of Manitowoc Road would be Ward 11 and the area north of Manitowoc Road would become Ward 11A.

Wards 12/12A: The current Ward 12 includes the area south of August Street and Manitowoc Road to the Green Bay-Bellevue boundary. On the new map, the area east of Lime Kiln Road would be Ward 12A and the area west of Lime Kiln Road would remain Ward 12.

Wards 37, 37A: The current Ward 37 includes the area west of Atkinson Drive, north of Mather Street and east of North Military Avenue, along the Green Bay-Howard border. On the new map, Ward 37A is located north of Velp Avenue and Ward 37 includes the area south of Velp Avenue.

Wards 45, 45A: The current Ward 45 includes the area west of Packerland Drive, south of the Oneida Golf Club, to the Green Bay-Hobart boundary on the west and Haven Place, Sandia Drive and West Mason Street to the south. On the new map, the majority of the district would remain in Ward 45. Ward 45A would include the small area from Hillcrest Drive west to the Green Bay-Hobart boundary.

Redrawn districts means voters in 4 wards may go to new polling places on Green Bay's west side

The Assembly maps also impacted Wards 26 and 27, and Wards 45 and 46, but city staff was able to redraw those ward boundaries in such a way that the districts swapped voters and aligned with the Assembly maps.

Wards 26 and 27 currently are divided by Bond Street and both span the area from the Fox River west to Atkinson Drive. The new map would instead use Velp Avenue/Mather Street to divide the wards, with Ward 27 south and west of Velp/Mather and Ward 26 east and north of Velp.

Wards 45 and 46 currently include sections of the city west and southwest of the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College campus. The new map would move a portion of the neighborhood east of Lacount Road from Ward 45 into Ward 46 while some voters west of Lacount Road would move from Ward 46 into Ward 45.

The redrawn boundaries will mean affected voters will cast ballots at new polling places.

Where will these new wards vote in Green Bay?

Here are the polling places for the proposed new and redrawn wards:

Ward 11, 11A: Central Assembly Church, 831 Schoen St.
Ward 12, 12A: Central Assembly Church, 831 Schoen St.
Ward 26: Salvation Army, 626 Union Court
Ward 27: First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Ashland Ave.
Ward 37, 37A: St. Paul's Church, 341 Wilson Ave.
Ward 45, 45A: The Cornerstone Room of the Green Bay Botanical Garden, 2600 Larsen Road
Ward 46: Church of Christ, 2683 West Point Road

Will affected residents vote for a different Green Bay City Council member?

None of the redrawn or newly created wards will see residents shift from one City Council district to another.

Wards 11, 11A, 12 and 12A are in City Council District 3, represented by William Morgan.
Wards 26 and 27 are both part of City Council District 7, represented by Alyssa Proffitt.
Wards 37 and 37A are in City Council District 10, represented by Ben Delie.
Wards 45, 45A and 46 are in City Council District 12, represented by Kathy Hinkfuss.

Affected residents will get a postcard in the mail. And you can always check MyVote Wisconsin

Jeffreys said the city plans to send residents in the affected wards a postcard notifying them of the change and where their polling location is.

"For voters, some things will have changed and we will notice everybody impacted so they’re aware," Jeffreys said.

As always, any resident can visit My Vote Wisconsin to register to vote, find out where their polling place is and find out what's on their ballot. Jeffreys said MyVote Wisconsin may take a couple of weeks to update with after the City Council acts on the new maps.

President Biden and former President Donald Trump tentatively agreed Wednesday to face off in two summer debates months before the Nov. 5 election, upending the traditional campaign calendar.

CNN announced that the rivals will meet at 9 p.m. ET Thursday, June 27, at its Atlanta headquarters for a debate moderated by “State of the Union” co-hosts Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.

There will be no live audience, in accordance with the Biden campaign’s request.

Later Wednesday, Biden and Trump said they had each accepted an offer from ABC News to hold a second debate on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Joe Biden said he will not participate in debates sponsored by nonpartisan commission.

The agreement between the two camps cuts out the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), which has organized the head-to-head events since the 1988 election cycle.

Major-party presidential nominees have squared off in debates every four years since 1976, but have never met earlier than September, after the national political conventions and when most Americans are home from their summer vacations.

Biden, 81, fired the first shot at 8 a.m. sharp , posting on his personal X account: “Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020, and now he wants to debate me again.”

“Well, make my day pal,” added the president.

Biden then added in a separate X post that he had “received and accepted” the CNN debate invite, teasing: “Over to you, Donald. As you said: anywhere, any time, any place.”

Trump responded that he would accept Biden’s challenge, telling Fox News “I’ll be there” and adding that he was “looking forward to being in beautiful Atlanta.”

“Crooked Joe Biden is the WORST debater I have ever faced – He can’t put two sentences together! Crooked is also the WORST President in the history of the United States, by far,” the former president expounded in Truth Social .

“It’s time for a debate so that he can explain to the American People his highly destructive Open Border Policy, new and ridiculous EV Mandates, the allowance of Crushing Inflation, High Taxes, and his really WEAK Foreign Policy, which is allowing the World to ‘Catch on Fire.’ I am Ready and Willing to Debate Crooked Joe at the two proposed times in June and September. I would strongly recommend more than two debates and, for excitement purposes, a very large venue, although Biden is supposedly afraid of crowds – That’s only because he doesn’t get them. Just tell me when, I’ll be there.”

Trump closed by quoting legendary boxing announcer Michael Buffer: “Let’s get ready to Rumble!!!”

The quick agreement from both sides Wednesday morning came despite a lack of prior planning, a source familiar with the situation told The Post.

“Contact was made after Biden announced his willingness to debate on radio between the two camps. But then there was silence until Biden accepted President Trump’s challenge this morning,” the person said, referring to the president’s April 26 comment to radio host Howard Stern that “I don’t know when, but I am happy to debate” Trump.

The source added there was one other attempt at contact between the two campaigns in recent weeks, but “no negotiations took place.”

The CPD tentatively scheduled three debates: Sept. 16 in San Marcos, Texas; Oct. 1 in Petersburg, Va.; and Oct. 9 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

However, Biden wanted to face off with Trump on a more compressed schedule, campaign chair Jennifer O’Malley Dillon wrote in a letter to the commission obtained by The Post, “early enough to influence early voting, but not so late as to require the candidates to leave the campaign trail in the critical late September and October period.”

Trump’s team countered by requesting four debates to “allow voters to have maximum exposure.”

“We propose a debate in June, a debate in July, a debate in August, and a debate in September, in addition to the Vice Presidential debate,” campaign consiglieres Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles wrote to Biden’s team.

Trump also fired off another Truth Social post after agreeing to the first two debates, saying he would take part in a third debate hosted by Fox News on Oct. 2 and moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.

The Biden team appeared to reject that idea, with O’Malley Dillon saying in a statement that “President Biden made his terms clear for two one-on-one debates, and Donald Trump accepted those terms. No more games. No more chaos, no more debate about debates. We’ll see Donald Trump on June 27th in Atlanta – if he shows up.”

In addition to the no-live-audience request — purportedly to avoid “raucous or disruptive partisans and donors” — the Biden team asked for each candidate to be equipped with microphones that automatically cut off when their time to speak runs out.

“There should be firm time limits for answers, and alternate turns to speak — so that the time is evenly divided and we have an exchange of views, not a spectacle of mutual interruption. A candidate’s microphone should only be active when it is his turn to speak, to promote adherence to the rules and orderly proceedings,” read the Democratic letter, first reported by the New York Times.

The debates will also exclude independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other third-party candidates. The commission would have allowed additional candidates to take the stage if they reached a minimum of 15% in polling and were on enough state ballots.

The Trump campaign had long asked Biden to commit to debates earlier in the 2024 cycle.

The 45th president’s team had initially said in early April the former president would be willing to debate Biden “anytime, anyplace and anywhere,” and had urged the commission to move its debates up to account for early voting.

But the CPD argued its plans had accounted for “religious and federal holidays, early voting, and the dates on which individual states close their ballots.”

After Biden signaled willingness to debate in the interview with Stern, Trump’s advisers challenged the incumbent to debate sooner — without CPD involvement.

“We extend an invitation to every television network in America that wishes to host a debate, and we once again call on Joe Biden’s team to work with us to set one up as soon as possible. The American people deserve it,” LaCivita and Wiles wrote in a statement at the time.

The Biden campaign piled on the CPD Wednesday, with O’Malley Dillon writing: “The commission’s failure, yet again, to schedule debates that will be meaningful to all voters — not just those who cast their ballots late in the fall or on Election Day — underscores the serious limitations of its outdated approach.”

As of Tuesday night, the commission had not heard from either campaign about coordinating on the debates, co-founder Frank Fahrenkopf said on a reporter call with centrist group No Labels.

In a statement Wednesday, the CPD said: “The American public deserves substantive debates from the leading candidates for president and vice president. The nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) was established in 1987 specifically to ensure that such debates reliably take place and reach the widest television, radio and streaming audience.

“Our 2024 sites, all locations of higher learning, are prepared to host debates on dates chosen to accommodate early voters. We will continue to be ready to execute this plan.”

Here's how editors said the magazine determined its picks: Analyzing the 150 most populous metropolitan areas and evaluating several factors including job prospects, affordability, growth and quality of life.

Topping the 2023-24 list: Green Bay, Wisconsin.

The magazine called Green Bay "The perfect mix of big-city amenities complemented with a Midwestern, small-town feel."

In addition to being home to its National Football League team, the Green Bay Packers, the city "boasts a thriving entertainment and arts scene, revitalized downtown, and two college campuses, creating an energy that may appeal to young families as well as retirees."

After ranking the country's 150 largest metropolitan areas, Huntsville, Alabama ranked the 2nd best place to live in America beating (3) Raleigh Durham, North Carolina ; (4) Boulder, Colorado and (5) Sarasota, Florida.

Last on the list this year: The tropical island of Puerto Rico .

The top 25 included five Florida cities while Colorado and North Carolina both had three cities each on the list.
