Richie Sambora teases Bon Jovi reunion for Glastonbury 2023 after joining Dolly Parton’s headline set

Richie Sambora could be reuniting with his former Bon Jovi bandmates in the near future – and it could happen at Glastonbury 2023. 

Bon Jovi are one of the few rock icons who have never headlined the music festival despite years of fans begging organisers Michael and Emily Eavis to sign them up. 

The band’s former guitarist Richie, 63, got a touch of the Pyramid Stage when he surprised Glasto-goers by joining country star Dolly Parton during her Legends slot performance in 2014. 

However, could Bon Jovi fans finally get their wish? 

Richie quit the band in 2014 and, despite initial claims of tension, has remained cordial with remaining members such as Jon Bon Jovi and David Bryan, even joining them on-stage in 2018 as the Livin’ On A Prayer hitmakers were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. 

He’s now hinted that a proper reunion with his former bandmates could be on the cards for Glastonbury next summer, as he told Metro.co.uk at the MITS Awards in London: ‘It’s a possibility. We’re talking a bit,’ albeit with a cheeky smile on his face. 

Richie holds fond memories of his performance with 9 To 5 singer Dolly, who he joined on-stage at Glasto eight years ago. 

‘It was the first time I played Glastonbury but just playing with her was just tremendous. She’s a friend through other friends and she covered one of my songs,’ Richie said. 

He added: ‘Yes it is, she’s a sweetheart and she’s that good. Consummate professional and she’s still here, what a legacy. Amazing.’ 

Richie was joined by music executive Merck Mercuriadis – who has managed a host of A-list artists including Beyonce, Sir Elton John, Nile Rodgers and Gun N’ Roses. 

He also heaped praise on the country music legend and said: ‘She’s direct and to the point and you know exactly where you stand 24 hours a day.’ 

Merck was speaking just after Dolly, 76, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame alongside the likes of Eminem, Duran Duran and Lionel Richie on Saturday night. 

He recalled: ‘It was magnificent to Duran Duran to the Eurythmics and Jimmy Iovine who was with us, Eminem was remarkable and Dr Dre gave a great speech. 

‘But Dolly is something else because she questioned whether she actually belonged in the room and if she belonged in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and I think after Saturday, she knows she absolutely belongs in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because everyone made her feel very special.’

Get ready to do some serious air guitaring as legendary rockers Bon Jovi have just announced a tour for next year.

And while the North East isn't one of the calling points, there are number of chances to see them play not too far away.

Bon Jovi are of course the band who have given us absolute anthems like Livin' On A Prayer, You Give Love A Bad Name and Always, with all of their back catalogue ideal for a stadium setting.

The This House Is Not for Sale tour kicks off at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium on June 19 2019, before heading to Wembley Stadium, London and finishing at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry.

New Jersey’s Bon Jovi are one of the most successful American rock bands of all time. Since their formation in the early 1980s, the band have sold over 100 million records worldwide, played over 2,700 shows in over 50 countries and won countless awards.

Fronted by the force of nature that is Jon Bon Jovi, the band have no fewer than 18 Top 10 UK singles under their belts. Some of the band’s biggest hits include It’s My Life, Have a Nice Day and Keep the Faith.

The band released their latest album This House Is Not for Sale in November 2016. The record debuted at number 5 on the UK Albums Chart

And if you do end up going to see them in action you'll want to make sure you get there early as their support act is none other than Manic Street Preachers.

Bon Jovi's UK tour dates are:

June 19 – Anfield Stadium, Liverpool June 21 – Wembley Stadium, London June 23 – Ricoh Arena, Coventry

Tickets for the newly announced dates will be available from 9am on Friday, November 2 through Ticketmaster.
