This tour includes the scenic village Gásadalur. The waterfall in this village is Faroe Islands' most popular attraction and for a good reason! Many consider Múlafossur as Faroe Islands' most beautiful waterfall. Your tour guide will take you close to the waterfall so that you will get the best photo opportunities.

Another highlight is the village Bøur. From this seaside settlement, you will have a good view of Drangarnir sea arch and the islet Tindhólmur.

This tour will also let you see Lake Leitisvatn known for its 'floating lake' perspective. The walk to the lake takes an hour and can be done by everyone. Your guide will take you back to Tórshavn at the end of the day.

Pickup at 09:00. Drop off at 15:00.

Streymoy Island & Eysturoy Island

Tuesday. Today, you will explore some of the remotely located villages on Streymoy island and Eysturoy island. This day tour is one of the highlights of your trip in the Faroe Islands.

Your tour guide will pick you up at 9am. This day tour includes the breathtaking settlement Saksun, the isolated village Tjørnuvík, and the beautiful village Gjógv.

Saksun is a must-see scenery in the Faroe Islands. You will visit this unbelievable village with its tidal lagoon. You will enjoy the white turfed-roofed church in Saksun that lies majestically above the tidal lagoon.

Another highlight is the amazing gorge in the village Gjógv. This village is one of the most sought-after sights in the Faroe Islands. The drive to Gjógv is mesmerising and will take you to unexplored sights such as the winding road above the village Funningur.

Tjørnuvík has some untouched qualities to it. There is a black sandy beach and a lovely view towards two sea-stacks out in the water.

Pickup at 09:00. Drop off at 17:00.

Wednesday. Today, you will experience the most beloved cliffs in the archipelago. From the village Vestmanna, you will get close to lots and lots of birds. Get ready and wear clothing according to weather.

Exploring nature from sea adds something extra to your time in the Faroe Islands. You will have the unique opportunity to sail into sea caves, weather permitting.

Once picked up in Tórshavn, you will head north on Streymoy Island to the village Vestmanna. Then the tour guide will take you onboard a boat to the Vestmanna Sea Cliffs. The boat tour itself takes 1.5 hours or so. You will do some additional sightseeing on land after the exciting boat tour.

Pickup at 09:00. Drop off at 14:00.

Thursday. Today, you will experience the most southerly island in the Faroe Islands. Visiting the island Suðuroy adds something extra to your experience in the Faroe Islands.

After a two hour ferry ride, you will enjoy the stunning coastline on Suðuroy island. The tour includes a visit to the southern tip of the Faroe Islands, Akraberg.

This is the day with most hours out exploring. The long day is perfect for the bright summer days in the Faroe Islands.

Pickup at 08:00. Drop off at 20:00.

Kalsoy Island & More!

Friday . The northern part of the Faroe Islands is filled with breathtaking wonders and today you will visit some of the highlights.

After entering Klaksvík, a ferry will take you to the breathtaking Kalsoy island. On this island you will enjoy the best sights including the secluded village Trøllanes.

Kallur Lighthouse is included in the tour. If you would like to skip the hike, that is totally fine as you will then enjoy the remote village Trøllanes for two hours while the hike to Kallur Lighthouse takes place.

Beside Kalsoy Island, you will also experience the village Viðareiði surrounded by fantastic mountains and a breathtakingly beautiful shoreline. Your tour guide will also take you to Kunoy Island, another beautiful location.

3 reviews for Unbelievable 5 Day Summer Vacation Package of the Faroe Islands

Rachel Stratton – 12/08/2023

I really enjoyed this tour. The guides were very friendly and looked after us well. The vehicles were comfortable and the group size was perfect. It covered the bases of everything I wanted to see, and as a solo traveller it was great to have everything organised in this way.

Mats Uddenfeldt – 23/07/2023

We spent a fantastic week on the Faroe islands with our guides. As a family of four with kids aged 14 and 11, this package was an excellent mix of easy to moderate hikes (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) intermixed with rest days with more of a stop & go schedule (Tuesday and Thursday). The Monday on Vágar was the longest hike at around 8 km but also the easiest as the hiking fees have been invested in a prepared trail most of the way. Friday on Kalsoy with the hike out to Kallur lighthouse was the shortest but also the most challenging hike, mainly due to the wet and foggy conditions on the continuous incline.

Reading up ahead of our trip it was clear that the weather would be quite unpredictable and we certainly experienced that during the week. We had everything from rain, to fog, to sunshine. This was mid July and day temperatures ranged between 8C and 15C. We are used to being outdoors and dressed in layers so it was not a problem. Wearing wool also makes it possible to stay warm even after getting wet. We were caught by severe fog twice with very unfortunate timing. First, on Suðuroy as we had just come up the mountain to Beinisvørð for the spectactular view. Second, on Kalsoy where the Kallur lighthouse was completely shrouded in dense fog making it impossible to enjoy the views. However, both days also had moments with absolutely perfect conditions. The lunch in Mikladur after the hike out to the lighthouse was one of the most serene and picturesque moments of the entire week.

We have nothing but good things to say about the experienced local guides and got to meet several members of the family during the week. It is clear that they are proud of their heritage and their local network and broad knowledge of various projects on the islands gave us unique insights and experiences each day. It is inspiring to meet a family where generations have making their livelihood on the sea, and now help tourists get the best possible touristic experience combined with understanding of how it is to live in this small island society. We also got great advice for restaurants in Tórshavn and were able to change some of our reservations based on this. We can definitely recommend booking ahead as some restaurants are quite popular.

We decided to spend Saturday on our own, splitting up into two groups. Shopping and museums for part of the family, and another day of hiking (Argir to Kirkjubøur and back around the mountain) for the other. We were again caught in a bit of fog and rain on the hike, but it was still an enjoyable way to wrap the week.

All in all our trip to the Faroe islands was amazing and we definitely recommend this package and JH Tours to make the most out of your stay.

Sara – 12/06/2023

The highlights of this trip were the hikes on Vagar and Kalsoy Islands.

The biggest disappointment was not going to Mykines. The guide said we wouldn’t be able to see puffins there and advised us to substitute a different tour that day. Unfortunately, it turned out the guide intentionally misled us (I think due to his displeasure with the rules for visiting Mykines) and others who went to Mykines with different guides were able to see puffins. I was extremely disappointed in the lack of integrity from the guide and that they sold a tour they didn’t intend to provide. The day trips to Streymoy and Suderoy were a lot of sitting, I would have preferred more walking.

Faroe Islands - Highlights Tour

A representative from Heimdal Tours will collect you from your hotel and we will drive firstly through the streets of old Tórshavn to the historic village of Kirkjubøur,  the southernmost village on Streymoy  and the country's most important historical site with the ruins of the  Magnus Cathedral  from around 1300, the  Saint Olav's Church  from 12th century and the old farmhouse  Kirkjubøargarður  fro m 11th century, which is still occupied by the same family for 17 generations.

jh tours faroe islands

We will then drive to the beautiful village of Saksun with its natural amphitheatre of cliffs, waterfalls and stunning nature.

jh tours faroe islands

After exploring Saksun, our next stop is the village of Tjørnuvík, the most northerly village on Streymoy and now popular with surfers...yes you heard correctly...surfers!

Tjørnuvík also has one of the oldest Viking burial grounds where you can see the original burial stones. We usually take time here to enjoy our packed lunch whilst admiring the view of the "Giant and Hag" rock formations on the headland and telling you the legend behind the rocks. You will have time to take a stroll on the beautiful sandy beach.

We then take the stunning drive up and past the highest point on the Faroe Islands and descending into the beautiful and picturesque village of Gjógv.   Plenty of time to explore this delightful idyll.  In the summer months (May - August, it is possible to glimpse Puffins nesting on the ledge above the gorge in Gjógv.

Where are the Faroe Islands?

The Faroe Islands is an archipelago of 18 islands located in the North Atlantic Ocean. They are halfway between Iceland and the Shetland Islands, just off Scotland.

Which country are the Faroe Islands part of?

The Faroe Islands is a self-governing nation under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Denmark. Although people from the Faroe Islands are technically Danish citizens, the majority would identify as Faroese as they have a unique history, culture, language (Faroese) and parliament.

What language do they speak in the Faroe Islands?

Faroese is the national language of the Faroe Islands.

It's a Nordic language from the Norsemen who settled in the Faroe Islands during the Viking era and shares similarities with Icelandic and Middle Norwegian.

Danish is the official second language, and people learn it in school from a young age, as well as English.

Do I need a visa to travel to the Faroe Islands?

The Faroe Islands visa requirements are similar to Denmark's.

If you require a visa for Denmark, then you will require one for the Faroe Islands.

Passport holders of the European Union, Australia, New Zealand, USA and Canada don't need a visa for Denmark, Sweden and Norway. All other nationalities should check with the relevant authorities.

When you submit a visa application to a Danish Embassy, you must ensure the visa states that it is for the Faroe Islands.

The Faroe Islands aren't part of the European Union or the Schengen Agreement, so a Schengen visa is not sufficient to visit the Faroes.

You can visit the  Denmark Government website  for more information on visa requirements.

What should I pack for the Faroe Islands?

No matter what time of year you visit the Faroes, bring plenty of warm layers and a windproof/rainproof jacket.

The weather is wet and unpredictable throughout the year, so it's best to be prepared for all the elements.

You'll also need a comfy pair of shoes for walking, a day bag to carry your essentials, a camera (you won't be able to put it down!) and one or two smart-casual outfits if you want to go to for dinner in one of the fancier restaurants in the capital city of Tórshavn.

How do I get to the Faroe Islands?

Although the Faroe Islands are part of Denmark, they're closer to Iceland and Scotland. To get there, you'll need to travel by boat or plane.

There are direct flights to Vágar Airport on the island of Vágar (the only airport in the Faroe Islands) from several major European cities, including Copenhagen, Oslo, Barcelona, Edinburgh and Bergen.

You can also take a ferry from Denmark or Iceland on the MS Norröna with  Smyril Line .

Are Intrepid trips accessible for travellers with disabilities?

We are committed to making travel widely  accessible , regardless of ability or disability. We do our best to help you see the world, regardless of physical or mental limitations.

We are always happy to talk to travellers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them toward the most suitable itinerary for their needs and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

We had an amazing trip and I can only recommend it to others. We got to see all the beautiful views and sights, and we had a very unique experience :-)

Ida Christine Brehmer

I cannot rate this highly enough. If I could give her more than 5 stars I would! The tour lasted 7.5 hours (after she had checked with the 3 of us involved if going over the 7 hours would be okay). We did a 250km round trip stopping at so many points of outstanding natural beauty. Elsa Marie is extremely knowledgeable and so we gained a huge insight into the history and culture of the Faroe Islands. She is very personable, friendly and thoughtful. She came equipped with tea, coffee, water and snacks as well as spare waterproofs for us. She also made sure we had sufficient comfort breaks. Nothing was ever too much trouble for her. Elsa Marie said that she would send us photos and videos of the trip afterwards and we received that very promptly after the tour. However this was not just an ordinary e-mail with videos and photos attached. She had used the relive app and we received a wonderful memento, plotting our journey along a maps with all the stops we made along with accompanying photos and videos highlighted at the relevant stops along the way. Absolutely first class service.I cannot thank Elsa Marie enough for making the whole day such a wonderful and enjoyable trip. I highly recommend this to others. She goes over and beyond any tour guide I have ever been with.Thank you so much Elsa Marie. I loved every minute of the trip!

Michelle Newcombe

Elsa Maria was amazing! I can’t believe how much beauty we saw in one day. I am just so in awe of this place and she made the experience even more fulfilling.

Jessica Goldman

This trip was outstanding! We were on the road for almost 8,5 hours (1 and a1/2 hour more than planned) but time just flew by and we had a great time. Elsa Maria is a lady (with big L) who really sets the standard, she has a great personality, has a clever sense of humor, and she really knows how to treat her customers / travellers. She proudly present her island, and what it has to offer, and she rightly do so! Would recommend this trip for everyone, and especially if you are at Faroe Island for just a short periode of time.

Highly recommend trip that covers a huge array of breathtaking sights. Elsa Marie is the perfect guide; knowledgeable, pleasant and brings that extra personal touch to the experience. Would recommend to everyone visiting the Faroe Islands!

Elin Ibsen Gustavsen

Where is the Faroe Islands?

Located between Great Britain, Iceland and Norway, the Faroe Islands are placed in the middel of the Atlantic Ocean. The Faroe Islands consists of 18 mountainous islands, with a total area of 1,4 square kilometres of land and 274,000 square kilometres of sea area. The total population of the Faroe Islands is 53,000 people (2021) with more people coming in. 40% of all the people lives in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. Tórshavn is in the top 20 of the World’s smallest capital cities both by population and size.

Why visit the Faroe Islands?

The Faroe Islands are unique and beautiful in so many ways. First thing mentioning is the stunning scenery and the unharmed, raw nature. It's a visually unique place with green mountains, crashing waterfalls and colorful villages. If you like shaggy sheeps the Faroe Islands got that covered as well. With a population above 75.000, the sheeps outnumber humans. Tórshavn offers plenty activities. ’The Nordic House’ is one of it’s kind for many cultural events. Tórshavn also offer great restaurants, theatres, museums, concert halls and nightlife opportunities.

Is the Faroe Islands a country?

The Faroe Islands are a self-governing nation under the external sovereignty of Denmark (DK). The Faroe Islands have exclusive competence to legislate and govern the conservation and management of the country independently. Although Denmark is a member state of the EU, the Faroe Islands have chosen to remain outside the EU. The majority of the Faroe Islands wealth comes from the fishing-industry and they therefore negotiate their own trade- and fisheries agreements with the EU.

What's the weather like in the Faroe Islands?

The Faroe Islands are one of the least sunny places in the world. Cloudy skies are the norm here. On a usual day it’s not uncommon to expierence both rough wind and rain, but also sunbeams. This given the high latitudes. Summerdays are long, up to 19 hours between May to July. During summer season nights doesn’t get completely dark; a phenomenon known as ”The White Nights”. The average temperature is between 3°C during winters season and 13°C during the summer. So, temperatures are quite mild and chill all year around. In winter season it’s possible to experience mild freezing temperatures and maybe catch some Northern Lights.

What language do they speak in the Faroe Islands?

The native language of the Faroe Islands is called ’Faroese’. Historically the language is divided into spoken language and written language. The spoken language derives from the old Germanic language, the root of all Nordic languages. It originated over 1200 years ago, when Viking age settlers discovered the islands. Spoken Faroese therefore reminds of other Nordic languages like Icelandic and Norwegian. The written language is quite young though, as it originated in the late 1800s. Faroese is one of the smallest existing languages in the world, therefore it’s currently not easy to translate directly if using common online translation sites.

What currency does the Faroe Islands use?

There are two equal currencies in the Faroe Islands; the Faroese krone (FOK) and the Danish krone (DKK). The Faroese goverment prints its own banknotes, but only Danish coins are used. Both Faroese and Danish notes are equally accepted all over. It’s not commonly accepted to use other currencies than FOK and DKK as fiat money in the Faroe Islands. Therefore credit cards are the obvious choice for turists here. Either VISA, MasterCard, Eurocard, Maestro and JCB is accepted in most shops, restaurants, hotels, etc., but be aware that American Express is more rarely accepted. It’s also possible to withdraw fiat money from one of the many ATMs around the Faroe Islands.

Faroe Islands Tours: Bespoke Itineraries with Local Faroese Guides

See the Faroe Islands the right way - through a fully-customized, uniquely-personalized itinerary. No predetermined Faroe Islands tours where you’re stuck seeing and experiencing the same things that everyone else does (and with most tours, you’re also experiencing those things with strangers).

Our Faroe Island Tours Are Loved By People Just Like You

When traveling to the Faroe Islands we would definitely recommend choosing REMÓT travel to experience this unspoiled and untamed Island group. Very unique and individual service with a 24/7 ‘hotline’ with our guide Rasmus who was extremely friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Thanks to Rasmus we saw the islands from land, sea and air! If you are a foodie, don’t leave before eating at Koks!

Amazing that REMÓT Travel has launched in the Faroe Islands! High-quality experiences, inclusive of the locals, and a way to authentically discover the place, an amazing new option for travelers and an important addition to the Faroese hospitality space, as a whole.

During our trip to the Faroe Islands, we could  not have been in better hands than with Remote Travel.  We did such a variety of activities  (as per our requests and Romote travel suggestions) and were so pleased with all of them.  Our guides (all Faroese) were terrific responding to any extra requests we had and our accommodation was the best the Faroes has to offer.  We loved the Faroe Islands and found the Faroese people an absolute joy to be with.

REMOT Travel has a very special place in our hearts: REMOT planned, organised and executed our trip to the Faroe Islands in the autumn of 2021 and did so to absolute perfection. We stayed in lovely cottages, explored and wandered the countryside and hills, dined at the Michelin-star KOKS restaurant, sailed the fjords and just genuinely loved the trip, the hosts and guides as well as the Faroe people. Would highly recommend anyone planning that special trip for you and your special one(s) to call on the REMOT team.

Centred around locals

Our REMÓT Journeys are designed and centered around the locals, whether having dinner with the local farmer, fishing with the local fisherman, or going hiking with a local guide. We always provide REMÓT travelers with the opportunity to truly get a strong feel for the local environment, discovering local cultures, traditions, and nuances. We believe this is what makes for the most immersive and insightful travel experiences.

Sustainable approach to travel

The Faroese have lived alone and isolated on the Faroe Islands for over a millennia. Hence, we are still getting used to the new reality of becoming a more active and visible player on the world map - and this is also true for Faroese tourism. We believe that the best way to evolve Faroese tourism is through incremental steps, inviting locals to participate in every step of the way. Hence, at REMÓT, we have ensured to invite truly local players - from farmers to fishers to nature enthusiasts - to participate in our REMÓT Experiences. This way, locals are provided with an opportunity to participate in the growing tourism and actively define the conversations surrounding this segment. This, we believe, is the most sustainable approach to tourism in the Faroe Islands.

Faroese born

We are Faroese born. The founders are Faroese, the company is Faroese, and all affiliates are Faroese. This is one of our core strengths in allowing our travelers to gain insights about the Faroese culture and explore local treasures. In a country of only 50,000 people, relationships carry weight in the Faroe Islands. By being local, we are best positioned to nurture these relationships and unlock genuinely local experiences.
