The Application Process for an Italy Visa in Dubai

Steps to applying for an italy visa.

To secure an Italian visa, you must complete several steps. You can choose from single-entry, double-entry, or multiple-entry visas based on your itinerary and the consulate’s decision.

Your passport should have a minimum validity of six months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen area. Ensure you have all required travel documents, including onward or return tickets and, if necessary, entry permits for subsequent destinations. You must also demonstrate sufficient funds for your visit and possess a valid residence visa for the UAE .

When submitting your application, include a filled-out and signed application form, your original passport, photocopies, and previous Schengen visas, if applicable. Attach a recent passport-size photograph with a white backdrop, confirmed return flight bookings, and any intra-Schengen travel arrangements.

Proof of financial means, such as six months’ worth of bank statements, is essential. A letter from your employer detailing your employment status and income is also necessary. Payment for the non-refundable application fee can be made using credit or debit cards.

An invitation from the host company in Italy is required for a business visa, stating their full address and the dates of your visit. It’s important to note that individuals of all ages must have a valid visa to enter Italy.

Scheduling an Appointment at the Visa Application Center

After preparing your documents, the subsequent step is to arrange an appointment at the Visa Application Center to submit your paperwork and provide biometric data. Appointments can be booked online or via a call centre, and it’s advisable to do this promptly due to high demand.

Tracking Your Visa Application Status

How to Start a Business in Italy as an Expat

How to obtain a business visa in italy.

For non-EU citizens aiming to establish a business in Italy, securing a business visa is a crucial initial step. Begin by obtaining a Nulla-Osta, a clearance indicating no legal impediments to your business venture. This document is issued by the Comune or the Chamber of Commerce, depending on the nature of your business.

You must demonstrate a minimum financial capacity of $19,300 through a Certification of financial and economic parameters issued by the Chamber of Commerce , which does not verify the actual availability of these funds.

The principle of reciprocity plays a significant role; Italy must offer you the same opportunities that an Italian would receive in your country of origin. This can be confirmed at the Italian Embassy in your country.

Holders of a long-term residence permit can engage in any business activity. However, establishing a company does not grant the right to reside in Italy beyond the standard 90-day period. To manage your business locally, a valid residence permit is necessary.

Suppose you’re already in Italy under different conditions. In that case, you may have the option to convert your existing permit to one for self-employment upon renewal.

Registering Your Business in Italy

Once the legal prerequisites are met, you must register your enterprise with the Italian Business Register 30 days after commencing operations. A photocopy must be included with your registration if you possess a residence permit.

Should your residence permit be pending or under renewal, you must provide the receipt from your correspondence with the Centro Servizi Amministrativi in Rome, along with a photocopy of your passport containing a valid type “D” visa.

The structure of your business will vary based on your requirements. Italy offers various forms, including SRL and SRLS, which are prevalent limited liability companies that provide flexibility to founders. Alternatively, a sole proprietorship may suit smaller ventures or an innovative startup if your focus is on high-tech products or services.

Foreign entities may also establish branch or representative offices as a means to enter the Italian market.

Licences and Permits

Certain businesses may require specific licences and permits. It’s imperative to understand the regulatory requirements for your business category. The process of establishing a company, including obtaining a VAT number and opening a bank account, typically spans 5-6 working days post-initiation, although this duration can vary.

There are no nationality-based restrictions for opening a company in Italy for most individuals. Directors and shareholders are not mandated to be residents; a valid ID or passport suffices. However, securing a legal residence and work permit is mandatory if you plan to relocate to Italy for business management purposes.

Navigating the administrative landscape can be daunting, but the process can be streamlined with adequate preparation, defined objectives, and professional guidance. Engaging with local consultants can significantly facilitate your entry into the Italian business environment, as they can assist with a range of services, including tax, accounting, payroll , and immigration.

How to apply for Italy visa from Dubai

How to apply for Italy visa from Dubai

Before you begin: Research what is Italy visa and requirements for UAE citizens and residents

  • This blog concerns the application process for UAE residents who need to apply for a Schengen visa to Italy from Dubai. Depending on your nationality, you will need a visa to enter Italy and the rest of the Schengen area. If you are granted a Schengen visa, you will be able to travel throughout the Schengen area and stay in Italy for up to 90 days.
  • Please note that UAE citizens enjoy visa-free access to the Schengen area. There is thus no short-term Italy visa for UAE citizens, and therefore no Italy visa requirements for UAE citizens. A long-term Schengen visa is for the UAE citizens who are considering stays over 90 days (a long-term Schengen visa has its own set of Italy visa requirements for UAE citizens). A non-Schengen Italy visa for UAE citizens is also available for applicants seeking to live, work, and study in Italy for long periods of time (therefore, the Schengen visa for the UAE citizens who want to travel to Italy and stay over six months is the long-term Schengen visa).
  • While they will continue to travel without a visa to the Schengen area, UAE citizens will soon need to apply for a travel authorization called ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) in order to enter Europe. However, ETIAS is not a visa (it takes 10 minutes to apply for it and you may do so online, for a very small fee).

1) Think about when to submit your application for the Italy visa for UAE residents

  • When should you apply for  Italy visa from Dubai ? That depends on when specifically you need to arrive in Italy. If you are trying to get a Schengen visa three weeks before you need to be in the country, you should apply for your Italy visa from Dubai immediately, so that you receive it in time to make your departure date (the earliest you should expect to get a decision is 15 days after you’ve applied). If you need a Schengen visa for a trip that’s five months in advance, you can wait a couple of months to submit an application (for a trip that’s six months or more away, you will have to wait to apply for the Italy visa from UAE, as applications at the 6+ month mark are not accepted).

2) Find your application destination: Where to apply for a Schengen visa from Dubai

  • The Italian Embassy, which is responsible for issuing decisions on the Italy visa from Dubai and from elsewhere in the Emirates, has a consular section in Dubai, at which you will likely be directed to submit your application.

3) Choose your Italy visa from Dubai type

  • Italy visa from Dubai types are numerous enough to reflect more than 10 purposes for traveling to Italy. The most common reason (and therefore visa type) for visiting Italy is “Tourism.” Other common reasons include “Visiting Family and Friends” and “Business.” See these Dubai visa types and more here .
  • All Italy visa fees are the same regardless of which type of Italy visa from Dubai you apply for, so when you go to choose your type, simply be guided by which one fits you the best.

4) Choose your Italy visa from Dubai entry category

  • In addition to being concerned with how long they can stay in the Schengen area, all Italy visa from Dubai applicants will also need to consider the number of entries they need to the zone. Specifically, they need to select their visa entry category, which will determine whether—and how many times—they can go back to the Schengen area if they leave it during their visa validity period. The Schengen visa entry categories that allow for re-entries from the Schengen zone are the double and the multiple. However, whereas a multiple entry Italy visa from Dubai grants unlimited entries and exits from the zone, a double entry Italy visa from Dubai limits you to two. A single-entry Italy visa from Dubai does not allow any re-entries to the zone, meaning that you can use it only to enter the Schengen area that one first time—not to return to the zone should you leave it.

5) Access the main application form for Italy visas and types for UAE residents

  • Applicants for all Italy visas and types from Dubai should apply through the main application form here . As you can see, this is an electronic visa portal operated by the Italian government.
  • Follow the links to complete the form, print it out, and sign it. When you are ready to submit your complete application, you will take the form (and the rest of your documents) to your application destination. There, they will scan the barcode on the print out (all visa forms have a unique barcode) and take possession of your Italy Schengen visa data.
  • You will likely need to write your answers to the questions on the form in English or Italian (or in one of the allowed languages—Arabic is not one of them). The documents you submit—if not already in English—will likely need to appear alongside translations into Italian or English in order to be accepted.

6) How to apply for an Italy visa from Dubai: gather your required documents

  • Valid national passport.
  • UAE residence permit.
  • Two (2) passport photos (appropriately sized) of the passport holder.
  • Proof of travel medical insurance coverage.
  • Proof of finances (financial accounts/other financial documents showing you have enough money to travel to Italy and support yourself throughout your time there).
  • Proof of accommodation (address where you will stay in Italy—and addresses of other destinations in the Schengen area, if relevant).
  • Proof of return (tickets/flight reservations back to the UAE from Italy, for example—i.e. evidence that you will leave Italy and exit the Schengen area when your visa is up).
  • Supplemental documents: most Schengen visa types come with their own set of document requirements, which you will need to fulfill in pursuit of your specific visa type. “Visiting Family and Friends,” visas for example require applicants to submit invitation letters (from the family or friend who is inviting them to visit).

7) Contact us to schedule your interview

  • Applicants for all Italy visas and types attend their visa interview for the purpose of submitting their complete application there (and meeting other in-person required for the Italy visa from Dubai). Contact us for help with this essential component of the application, and for more assistance in locating your Italy visa from Dubai application destination.

8) At your interview: find out how much does an Italy visa cost and other requirements

  • Your complete application is the main item you will submit at your visa interview. This includes your main Schengen visa application form (complete with Italian barcode) and all the other documents outlined in step 6.
  • Italy visa fees are paid at your visa interview—they typically are 80 EUR (you will likely be able to pay the equivalent price in AED). Some people (certain students and most dignitaries) pay less. Click here for more info.
  • Biometric date is also submitted at your visa interview. Biometric information includes fingerprints and photos and must be submitted by all applicants—except those who have already given their prints/photos in pursuit of a prior (and successfully and recently obtained) Schengen visa.
  • The interview itself is where you will, as you hand in your application, discuss with the consular officer in charge of its processing details about your trip. It does not typically exceed 15 minutes.

9) Processing time for Italy Schengen visa applications

  • It takes 15-60 days to receive a decision on an Italy visa from UAE application.

10) How to get Italy visa from the UAE if rejected

  • Let’s say you receive a rejection on your application for an Italy visa from Dubai—what should you do? Many applicants for the Schengen visa for Dubai residents are unaware that they can appeal if their application is rejected. This process—which has its own “application” process, occasionally results in an overturned decision, and the ultimate issuing of an Italy visa from UAE.

What is Reciprocity?

Nonimmigrant visa applicants from certain countries*/areas of authority may be required to pay a visa issuance fee after their application is approved. These fees are based on the principle of  reciprocity:  when a foreign government imposes fees on U.S. citizens for certain types of visas, the United States will impose a reciprocal fee on citizens of that country*/area of authority for similar types of visas.

How Do I Find Out if I Have to Pay a Reciprocity Fee?

To view the Reciprocity Page for your country* of nationality, select your country*/area of authority from the list of countries on the left side menu. On the Reciprocity Page, select the Visa Classifications tab from the column on the left

Select the type of visa you have applied for, such as a B-1/B-2 (temporary visa for business or pleasure), F-1 (student visa), etc. from the drop down menu:

The reciprocity information for that country*/area of authority will display:

What does this table tell me?

Visa Classification:  The type of nonimmigrant visa you are applying for.

Fee:  The reciprocity fee, also known as the visa issuance fee, you must pay. This fee is in addition to the nonimmigrant visa application fee (MRV fee).

Number of Entries:  The number of times you may seek entry into the United States with that visa. “M” means multiple times. If there is a number, such as “One”, you may apply for entry one time with that visa.

Validity Period:  This generally means the visa is valid, or can be used, from the date it is issued until the date it expires, for travel with that visa. If your Validity Period is 60 months, your visa will be valid for 60 months from the date it is issued.

What is the Difference between the Reciprocity Fee and the Nonimmigrant Visa Application Fee?

The nonimmigrant visa application fee, also known as the MRV fee, is a nonrefundable fee paid by most applicants for U.S. visas, whether the application is approved or refused. It covers the costs associated with processing a U.S. visa application. Current nonimmigrant visa application fees can be found on our  Fees – Visa Services  webpage. (This webpage also lists the few visa categories for which application fees are not required.)

While most visa applicants are required to pay the visa application fee, the Reciprocity Fee is only charged to an approved nonimmigrant visa applicant after the visa interview.

Immigrant Visa Interviews

For Immigrant Visa interviews each U.S. Embassy or Consulate has specific instructions for their applicants. Please click here to select your designated interview location.

Civil Documents and How to Use Them

Immigrant visa applicants are required to submit certain civil documents as part of their visa application, such as birth certificates and police records. (Nonimmigrant visa applicants do not routinely need to submit civil documents as part of their visa application.) Each Reciprocity Page will provide detailed information about how to obtain these civil documents from the country* you have selected, as well as the location of the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where you can apply for your visa. For more information about civil document requirements for immigrant visa cases, see  civil documents .

To view the Civil Documents for your country* of nationality, select your country*/area of authority from the drop-down menu below. On the Reciprocity Page, click on the tabs on the left to see the categories of Civil Documents and how to obtain them.

* With respect to all references to “country” or “countries” on this page, it should be noted that the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979, Pub. L. No. 96-8, Section 4(b)(1), provides that “[w]whenever the laws of the United States refer or relate to foreign countries, nations, states, governments, or similar entities, such terms shall include and such laws shall apply with respect to Taiwan.” 22 U.S.C. § 3303(b) (1). Accordingly, all references to “country” or “countries” in the Visa Waiver Program authorizing legislation, Section 217 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, 8 U.S.C. 1187, are read to include Taiwan. This is consistent with the United States’ one-China policy, under which the United States has maintained unofficial relations with Taiwan since 1979.

Paid holidays will be given to employees in the UAE's public sector from Saturday, June 15, until Tuesday, June 18, in observance of Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha.

The Federal Authority of Human Resources confirmed the dates in an announcement on Saturday.

Arafah Day, the holiest day in Islam marked on Dhul Hijjah 9, falls on June 15 — while the three-day Eid Al Adha holiday (Dhul Hijjah 10 to 12) will officially be marked on June 16 to 18. Thus, the break is four days long.

Employees in the private sector will enjoy the long weekend on the same dates.
