Everything you need to know about booking Eurostar train travel across Europe

Jordan Waller

If you're already based in Europe, the iconic Eurostar train likely needs no introduction; if you're only visiting the continent, however, you may not be quite aware of the service or how speedy and convenient its connectivity is between the U.K. and mainland Europe.

If you're looking for an easy (and typically cheaper) alternative to flying in Europe , then Eurostar might be just what you're looking for. It provides easy access to several countries — if you're short on time during your vacation, you could opt to take a daytrip from London to Paris using this train service.

Keep reading to find out more about traveling on Eurostar, including how to book tickets and save on fares by using your points and miles . Plus, check out our in-depth overview of each fare type on the Eurostar .

Eurostar trains travel to several destinations

eurostar package trips

Eurostar began operating in 1994 and is one of Europe's most well-known high-speed train services. The train currently offers direct service to London; Paris; Brussels; Rotterdam, Netherlands; and Amsterdam.

Further connecting Eurostar services will take you to Antwerp, Belgium; Liege, Belgium; Dusseldorf, Germany; Duisburg, Germany; Essen, Germany; and Dortmund, Germany.

In addition to operating its own trains, Eurostar serves as a connecting rail service for other high-speed carriers to destinations like Disneyland Paris.

What are the different ticket types for Eurostar trains?

eurostar package trips

The fare classes on Eurostar come in three tiers. The lowest and most affordable is Standard, which is the equivalent of coach or economy class with an airline.

Next up is Standard Premier, which is akin to premium economy. Finally, there's Business Premier, which is Eurostar's version of business class.

The fare classes are broken down as follows:

With regards to pricing, the cost of fares in Standard and Standard Premier fluctuates based on seasonality, peak periods and destination. Business Premier, on the other hand, remains fairly consistent year-round in terms of pricing. Eurostar tickets can usually be booked up to 330 days before your return travel date.

Generally speaking, if you're considering a trip from London onward, you can expect prices to fall somewhere within the following margins for a one-way trip:

If you're looking to snag a bargain, it's worth keeping your eye out for flash sales, which Eurostar regularly runs throughout the year, often with tickets for as little as 30 British pounds (around $38).

How do Eurostar trains compare to flying?

eurostar package trips

Compared to flying to your destination and transiting through European airports, traveling via Eurostar is much more low-stress.

The most obvious difference is the security experience, which, compared to that at an airport, is effortless, with no removal of liquids or large electric items. Although queues can mount up during busy periods, we've found that we're through security in under 10 minutes when we travel with Eurostar.

Check-in is similar to airport check-in in that you must show your ticket and passport at a desk or kiosk. London's St. Pancras International Station , however, is currently testing biometric face scans , which may make checking in even faster.

Regarding lounge access, it's worth noting lounges are only available at the St. Pancras, Paris Gare du Nord and Brussels Midi/Zuid stations.

If you're used to airline-run business-class airport lounges, you may need to lower your expectations somewhat here. Although comfortable and pleasant, the lounges are somewhat basic — don't expect too much in the way of food.

On board the Eurostar, it's like most modern trains you may have taken at home. The differences between Standard Premier and Business Premier are nominal. You'll get slightly more legroom and a slightly more modern seat in both classes than in Standard.

What you're paying for in these classes is the luggage allowance and food service. If you don't deem either of those things a huge must-have, you'll be more than comfortable in Standard.

That said, the food service on the Eurostar is much better than on most airplanes and currently features a menu designed by the renowned Raymond Blanc. Champagne and coffee services are also served free of charge in Business Premier.

How to earn points and miles for Eurostar trains

eurostar package trips

Eurostar operates its own loyalty program named Club Eurostar. For every British pound spent (about $1.27), you will earn 1.2 points. This means you earn around 1 point per $1 spent.

Elite members receive the following points bonuses when booking:

  • Avantage: 25%
  • Carte Blanche: 50%
  • Etoile: 75%

Eurostar tickets can now be booked through the Uber app , and you will earn 10% back in Uber credits on Eurostar bookings and National Rail train tickets in the U.K.

Additionally, you can earn 10% back when you purchase your coach tickets with the following U.K. operators: National Express and Megabus. If you decide to opt out of taking public transit, you can also hire a car from Avis, Hertz and other companies in your Uber app. When you book your trip, you'll receive £10 off (about $12).

You can also transfer 2,000 Accor Live Limitless points and receive 300 Eurostar points.

How to redeem points and miles for Eurostar trains

eurostar package trips

You can redeem 2,000 Club Eurostar points for a round-trip ticket in Standard class (or 4,000 points for a Standard Premier ticket), though these tickets are limited. For 1,000 more points, you can book any Standard or Standard Premier seats available.

A round-trip ticket can easily cost over $200 in Standard class (and double this at peak periods), making Club Eurostar points very valuable.

Business Premier tickets are available for 6,000 points round-trip for any available seat (saver-level space is not offered).

A one-way upgrade from Standard to Standard Premier is 600 points.

If you don't wish to redeem Club Eurostar points for train travel, you can transfer 500 Eurostar points and receive 1,000 Accor points .

You can redeem Virgin points through Virgin Red for the following Eurostar vouchers:

  • 2,000 points for a 10-pound E-Voucher (about $12)
  • 5,000 points for a 25-pound E-Voucher (about $31)
  • 10,000 points for a 50-pound E-Voucher (about $63)
  • 20,000 points for a 100-pound E-Voucher (about $126)

We would not recommend redeeming Virgin points in this way under any circumstances, as this will only give you a redemption value of 0.5 cents each, which is only one-third of our current valuation of Virgin points . You can obtain far more value from your Virgin points by redeeming through flights on Virgin Atlantic or partner airlines like Air France, KLM and Delta Air Lines.

Bottom line

Eurostar's popularity boomed during the COVID-19 pandemic as travelers looked for ways to move around Europe without relying on airlines. As a result, Eurostar fares can be more expensive compared to flights with the same route. For short journeys like between London and Brussels, taking Eurostar is a much quicker and more relaxing experience, while on longer journeys like London to Amsterdam, the price can be similar.

If you want to travel within Europe and like the idea of keeping your feet on the ground, book in advance or redeem points and enjoy the stress-free Eurostar rail experience.

Taking the Eurostar to Disneyland Paris (Tips and Booking Advice in 2024)

Are you thinking about taking the Eurostar to Disneyland Paris? In this guide, we round up all our best tips for travelling by Eurostar to Disneyland Paris with information on time, costs, best stations and more to help you plan your Disneyland Paris trip.

If you are looking at visiting Disneyland Paris from London, or the UK more generally there are lots of options for getting there. From flying to driving, from Ferry to Eurostar, there is not one right answer for travellers. But in this guide, we will look at Eurostar in depth.

In this guide you will learn:

  • Whether there are direct trains to Disneyland Paris,
  • the best station to travel to for value for money, time, booking windows and more

Table of Contents

Is there a direct train to Disneyland Paris?

Taking the Eurostar to Disneyland Paris

Whenever we get questions on our blog or in our Disneyland Paris Facebook group about Eurostar, undoubtedly the first thing people ask is “is there a direct train to Disneyland Paris?”. And unfortunately, the answer is no.

There used to be a direct Eurostar to Disneyland Paris however this was discontinued in June 2023 with the company citing Brexit and Covid as the reason for the cancellation. And with no signs of this service being started again travellers from London to Disneyland now have to change to complete their journey. However, there are a couple of options to consider.

How to get the Eurostar to Disneyland Paris

Now the most well-known option for getting to Disneyland Paris via Eurostar is to take a direct train to Paris Gare Du Nord and then transfer to the park either by local RER trains, TGV or private transfers.

However, there is a second option and that is to transfer at Lille and then head into the park so which is better for you?

Below we will look at the pros and cons of each including:

  • cheapest trains
  • most frequent trains
  • transferring into the parks
  • booking windows and more.

This is definitely the most popular route for those travelling to Disneyland Paris from London and it definitely has its advantages. For instance, the sheer volume of trains that are heading from London to Paris mean that you can make travel arrangements that really suit you and your travel itinerary.

Also, you can book these tickets 12 months in advance of travel which is great when you want to nail down your travel plans. And also given the frequency of these trains and the large booking window you can often get good deals on tickets.

However, this option may not be for everyone. Once you get to Gare Du Nord you are going to have to make separate onward travel arrangements to get to the park themselves.

Now don’t panic there are actually lots of options for travelling to  Disneyland Paris from Gare Du Nord including TGV, RER, Magic Shuttle and private transfers. And if you are willing to transfer by RER you will find this a really cost-effective and budget way to travel to Disneyland Paris  however if you are not a confident traveller you may be worried about making this onward journey which is where Lille may be a better option.

Eurostar to Lille for Disneyland Paris

Now what many people don’t know is that grabbing the Eurostar to Lille is a great option for traveling to Disneyland Paris. However, like Paris, it also has pros and cons.

Whereas the trains to Paris are frequent and plentiful, the options to Lille are far more restrictive. This means you will have to make your travel arrangements around your Eurostar ticket rather than being able to make it at the most convenient time for you.

Also, the booking window for this travel is much shorter. Whereas you can book the Paris train tickets 12 months in advance, tickets to Lille can only be purchased between 3 -4 months in advance (as of the time of writing). This can be tricky if you are a person who likes to be organised and also means that the tickets are often more expensive.

Please note: that once at Lille you will transfer onto the high-speed trains run by SNCF.

However, by travelling via Lille, you actually can get more time in the park. Whereas you need to leave a few hours ahead of your scheduled train departure time to allow time for you to transfer from the parks to Gare Du Nord, as you get the train at Marne le Vallee to head to Lille, you don’t need as much of a lead in time.

Also, the connections at Lille usually give you a 30-50 minute window to transfer platforms. If there are no delays this is more than enough time to make the change via the escalators or lifts. But generally speaking, I would allow 10 minutes to make this change, maybe slightly more if you are travelling with lots of luggage and small children.

But speaking of little ones, if you are travelling to Disneyland Paris with toddlers or a baby , Lille can be a more stress-free transfer. Lille is much quieter than the bustling Gare Du Nord station, so is less of a logistical challenge if travelling with a stroller or luggage.

If you are looking to book your Eurostar tickets we recommend booking with Trainline.com. We would appreciate it if you clicked the Trainline link here if you book through our link we will make a small commission at no extra cost to you which will help us keep writing amazing Disneyland Paris content!

When to pack for the Eurostar

Picture of Eurostar at an empty St Pancras Station

Taking the Eurostar to Disneyland Paris Tips

So now you know everything you need for booking and travelling by Eurostar to Disneyland Paris we will turn our attention to what to pack.

Now we have a complete Disneyland Paris packing list and what to wear guide here, however in this section we will look at things you will want in your hand luggage for the Eurostar and luggage limitations.

For your Eurostar hand luggage, we recommend having to hand:

  • Passports
  • Eurostar Tickets
  • Travel insurance
  • Credit and Debit Cards
  • Medications
  • Phone Charger
  • Food and Drink
  • Entertainment for your Kids
  • Electronics / Screens with Headphones

But on top of your hand luggage, you may also want larger suitcases with you, especially if you plan on b uying lots of souvenirs at Disneyland Paris.   However, what surprises many people when travelling by Eurostar is that there are in fact some luggage restrictions to be aware of.

In Standard Class and Standard Premium, you are permitted to have 2 pieces of luggage and one piece of hand luggage. While in Business Class can have 3 pieces of luggage and one piece of hand luggage. And children, regardless of the class they are travelling in can have one piece of luggage.

For more information on luggage size and prohibited items please check out the Eurostar website for the most up-to-date information.

Other Tips for Traveling by Eurostar

View of St Pancras Railway station from the outside

So now you have the main overview for booking and packing for your Eurostar journey here are a few other tips that may come in handy:

On booking, Eurostar will advise on your check-in time. It is usually around 120 minutes / 2 hours before your departure time.

Food and Drink Options Onboard

If your ticket does not include food then be sure to grab some food in St Pancras. Some of our favourite places to pick up refreshments are Benugo, Pret a Manger and Marks and Spencer’s Food. There is food and drink available on board however the selection is limited which is why we buy in advance.

Travelling with Children on the Eurostar

If you have kids in your party, especially if you are travelling to Disneyland Paris with toddlers or babies it is worth noting that children under 4 travel free. This can be helpful if you are travelling to Disneyland Paris on a budget. However, these children will not be allocated their own seat so you will have to have them on your lap for the journey.

Please note there are also children’s rates available for those travelling with kids aged under 11.

And be sure to make your seat reservations once you have made your booking to guarantee that your party are seated together. Our preference is to get a table seat for our family of four.

Taking a Stroller on the Eurostar

And if you are travelling with a stroller/pushchair on the Eurostar please note that you will be required to collapse it and either store it in the luggage compartment or on the shelf if it is a compact travel stroller .

We hope you have found our Eurostar guide helpful but if you have any more questions please drop us a comment below and we will do our best to answer.

Day tours to Paris from London by fast Eurostar train service

Visit paris in a day from london, with discounted tour - lunch on eiffel tower.

Eiffel tower, Paris

The Eurostar high speed train service to Paris take just 2 hours 15 minutes to travel between London St Pancras International station to Paris. The terminus in Paris is the Gare du Nord Station which like St Pancras is on the periphery of the centre of Paris.

It is a long full day in Paris, but the Eurostar trains enable around 7 hours sightseeing in Paris.

Eurostar train fares are very volatile. At short notice the whole cost of a Paris day tour can be significantly cheaper than a walk-up Eurostar train fare.

At Easter and Christmas/New Year, special longer duration versions of the 3-day tours are commonly made available.

See our range of day tours from London to Paris below , including options for independently minded visitors as well as guided options.

All tours offer a River Seine Cruise , and you can choose your level of guiding to suit.

Prices are seasonal - the 'from' prices below reflect the price for the autumn and spring seasons, outside the busier summer months.

Paris special day tour - unguided   Welcome to Paris day tour - guided   Lunch on the Eiffel Tower - luxury

Three day tours to Paris to choose from - guided or independent?

Paris river cruise

Choosing a Paris day tour depends on your requirements. On this page we give you three options, from very independent through to fully guided. The choice is yours.

  • The Paris Special 1-day tour  is for independently minded visitors and includes day return tickets on the Eurostar train together with the services of a guide for assistance and tips. Paris maps and information on getting the most from your day are provided and a one hour Paris river cruise is included.
  • The Welcome to Paris escorted 1-day tour  adds a panoramic coach tour of the highlights of Paris to the train tickets plus a river cruise. You then have substantial free time to visit those Paris icons like the Eiffel Tower you want to spend more time at, or perhaps go shopping or take in Paris people watching from a typical Parisian cafe.
  • The Luxury Paris 1-day with 3 course lunch on Eiffel Tower is the ultimate day in Paris including all that the standard tour offers plus a 3 course lunch on the newly renovated restaurant on the 1st floor of the Eiffel Tower, in addition to a Seine river cruise in the afternoon.

Common features of all day tours to Paris from London

Catching the Eurostar to Paris

The common feature of all day tours to Paris is the Eurostar train service and the services of a tour manager for guidance and information.

In London the railway station is St Pancras International Station, just to the north of the very centre of London.

No hotel transfers are included to or from St Pancras.

It is an early start, you will need to be at St Pancras by 6 am to meet the tour representative. The tour representative will help you with check-in.

Note: you will need a passport and if applicable to your home country, a visa valid for visiting France.

You will have reserved seats on the Eurostar train. The train is scheduled to take around 2 hours 15 minutes to the centre of Paris.

On arrival in Paris, and through customs what happens next depends on the grade of tour purchased, (see detail below).

All tours include a 1-hour river cruise on the Seine but the cheapest tour does not offer the panoramic coach tour of Paris.

The return journey leaving Paris means you will be at check-in around 6 pm. (Note Paris and London are not co-ordinated on time zones and daylight summer saving. Most of the time Paris is 1 hour ahead of London.)

(Note the Louvre is closed every Tuesday and many Paris museums are closed one day a week - so if you have a particular place in mind to check out its opening days before you book.)

This tour also includes a 1-hour river cruise on the River Seine.

Customer Reviews

Our staff was extremely professional, warm and welcoming. They were playful and fun and gave us some great information on points of interest while we passed through the wineries and towns. Would love to do this again!

I cannot remember her name but hopefully you can find it based on the schedule: Friday, Dec 22, 2023, Christmas Tea. She was amazing!! Excellent service, very professional and very personable. She made the experience that much better. The support staff were wonderful as well.

Took the legacy tour, don’t be fooled by the large price tag, it’s really worth it, the staff on the train are top notch, very friendly and make you feel like the center on the universe, think the food is going to be blah? Nope, I would happily pay $150 a person in a restaurant for the quality of the 4 course meal we got!

Staff from start to finish, at entry, on the train, even the gift shop, all outgoing and helpful. Well done!!! Just an aside, we did the French Laundry on 2/10. The “experience” was great, but …. if I was offered the chance to do another FL dinner or the Wine Train (especially if the 7-course with pairings is available), I would choose the Wine Train. The food I found to be great — every course.

I feel valued as an employee at the Napa Valley Wine Train by both my peers and management. We are well taken care of in all aspects. Management does really try to think of everything, from mental health, to inclusivity, to just simple support and care through rough times.

The Wine Train goes above and beyond to make team members happy—everyone is helpful, so nice, and warm. Managers and leaders have many events and surprises to show their appreciation for the hard work we do.

Every employee at the Wine Train is beyond helpful and supportive. It’s a breath of fresh air, the professionalism and enthusiasm everyone has here.

I have the opportunity to enjoy my work experience and take care of my personal ventures and obligations. I wake up excited and grateful each day to be at Wine Train and have these professional opportunities.

I can confidently say that I feel valued here at the Wine Train. I’ve received plenty of praise from all around the Wine Train and Noble House. I’m asked questions and have been assigned to new projects and tasks. Being able to work on such things is a great challenge for myself and it shows that the team has the trust in me to be able to get these tasks completed.
