With electronic music moving beyond the boundaries of its own genre and joining forces with others, it can be difficult to stand out. However that clearly doesn’t seem to be the case for Surrey brotherly duo Disclosure.

Guy and Howard Lawrence first got noticed when they released ‘Offline Dexterity’ in 2010 followed by ‘Carnival’/’I Love...That You Know’ in the next year. However things didn’t really pick up till the release of ‘Latch,’ featuring Sam Smith, who at that point was also just starting his career as well. Since then, it’s been like a whirlwind for these two brothers who have gotten themselves collaborations with London Grammar, AlunaGeorge and Mary J. Blige. Disclosure finally released their debut album, ‘Settle’ in 2013 and started flying all over their world with their pop vocal driven electronic repertoire -- landing them prime sets at Lollapalooza, Coachella and Sasquatch Music Festival.

With all the vocalists they’ve worked with, it would be rather difficult to have them perform at every single one of Disclosure’s sets. However when the duo performed at Governors Ball this year on Randall’s Island in New York, they didn’t seem too bothered by the fact that much of their vocals would all be recorded. Each standing at his station, Guy and Howard took turns in amping the crowd up for the dance party that they clearly started on that part of the island. And by the massive turnout, they were one of the festival’s favorites. Although considerably new to American soil, their sheer presence on stage drove everyone wild as they were ready to dance. Showing that they also knew how to play instruments aside from working the DJ front gave them even more street cred on the live end.

Perhaps the one thing that really did damper on this writer was just how strong the bass was through the speakers. Putting it on all high cylinders, the bass thumped so hard that you could feel your bones shake. Now that’s something no one wants to feel.

By far one of the most visually interesting concerts I have ever been to, and one of the most creative live performances by DJs I have seen! This concert was a visual masterpiece, as the lights, moving parts of the stage, and graphics on the screen created a spectacularly designed show. Howard and Guy Lawrence played many instruments with ease live - including bass, guitar, and multiple electornic percussion instruments. Their live performance was so much more dynamic than their already well crafted tracks, and I was overwhelmingly impressed by their live music. For a lot of electronic shows, DJs are kind of forced to stay stationary, but the production of the show was so extraordinary and beautiful that it created movement on the stage that apmplified the vibe. They also took a live video feed of the duo, and laid it in with moving graphics, which not only magnified their presence but blew standard live feeds out of the water. The lights played really well to the venue, with the stage lights illuminating the trees and the fog sillhouetting their shape. For their last song, they had Brandon Reilly, who is featured on the track "Moving Mountains", sing his part of the song - but he went above and beyond the original vocals for the track doing falsetto runs and improvisations that were mindblowing given the setting (as it is usually hard to sing so accurately at a loud electronic concert).

I couldn't even dance and had to dstay towards the back of the amphitheater a few minutes in because of a sports injury, and I still just as much fun as the people standing right in the very front. I think the equity in experience for all event-goers is a sign of a truly great show!

DISCLOSURE was AMAZING! It can be hard to find dates for this dynamic duo in the US, but i went to see them at the Governors Ball Music Festival in NYC and it was fantastic! This was one of the shows that my friends and i were determined to catch and have good spots for so we got there over an hour early to wait and ended having amazing spots maybe only 10 or so rows back from the front and right in the middle. When they came onto the stage they were so charmingly British and adorable, I love them now even more than I did before, which is really saying something! They played all of the big hits including "Help Me Lose My Mind" (and great live vocals from the brothers by the way.) "When a Fire Starts to Burn," and then for "White Noise" they brought out ALUNA GEORGE, who was fantastic as well, and all three have great stage presence. They closed with "Latch" and everybody was singing and or screaming along and the brothers were so into it and talked to the crowd, they were so fun and even before playing "Latch" teased us by saying "hmm do we have time for another song?!" and smiling and laughing at each other. There were also three diamond shaped jumbo-trons behind the two DJ sets they had on stage that had amazing graphics including flames, faces, and more that was all timed to the music--very well produced and planned! Love the accents, love their creativity, down-to-earthness, and overall attitude! Would totally recommend to see them and SNATCH up the tickets before they are gone!

It’s been quite the year or so for Disclosure; the Surrey-born brothers, Guy and Howard Lawrence, have enjoyed major critical and commercial success with their debut record, Settle, an intriguing blend of garage and deep house that had enough of a pop sensibility to make them a firm fixture on UK radio. I’d say it’s hard to believe they’re so young - twenty-three and twenty, respectively - although that’d probably be disingenuous of me, given that they both look about twelve. Among their many live highlights of the past year or so - and there’s been plenty of them, given that they’ve toured prodigiously and played high-profile sets at the likes of Glastonbury and Coachella - came at the Parklife Weekender in Manchester, where they curated and headlined a huge outdoor stage on the Sunday. Despite the fact that they were effectively topping the bill on the second stage, the crowd voted with their feet, and the verdict was clear; Foals played what was ostensibly the festival’s headline set to a sparse main stage audience, whilst Disclosure played to vast valley of people, with many amongst them trying, and failing, to take up the high ground on the hill as the trough below swarmed with fans. To put it bluntly, they’ve got the world at their feet; their followers will be hoping that whatever they do next can be translated to the stage with as much energy as Settle.

The production values were top-notch, as was the setlist, which equally covered the gamut of both "Settle" and "Caracal" capably, with a few sprinkles of other non-album tracks mixed in.

Glad I saw them as the headliners, rather than as part of a music fest, where I doubt they'd have been able to have spread their wings as much!

It was great!... Sadly "help me lose my mind" was missing. Anyway, the great performance was awesome, the crowd was ecstatic, the lights screen at the back was hypnotic, and the guest appearance of Brendan Reilly was a huge boost (the live version of "moving mountains" was much better than the studio one, which, is already great)!

The music was very good. Lighting and soundsystem is really cool. Too bad that the crowd is terrible. Too many aggressive people screaming and pushing other people. I went to all disclosure concerts in Berlin. This one is definitely the worst. The one in Berghain is still the best.

My mate and I went to see Disclosure in Manchester on the 28th Nov 2016. By far the best night of each of our lives. There's nothing quite like singing in unison with thousands of other people to the absolute bangers that Disclosure have produced. 10/10 Can't wait to go again

One word: perfect. The show was just what I expected. Hope them get Argentina soon!!! The sound and the lights are great. The timming and the set list was pretty good. Maybe three more songs will complete the full experiencie. Never the less I really like it!!!!

Groundbreaking dance music act Disclosure  are about to embark across Australia on the Listen Out  tour.

Last week however the group revealed that Howard Lawrence  (one half of the duo) will not be attending the tour and needs to take a break after "touring almost constantly" for over a decade.

"I'm very sorry to say that I won't be joining Guy on our Australian tour this year," he opens the statement.

"As those of you who follow my personal account may already know I've been really struggling with being back on the road touring again.

"Guy and I have been touring for almost constantly for well over a decade now and although I've had some of the best times of my life... I've always struggled with the intensity, jet lag, lack of routine and being away from my friends.

"This year I've done my absolute best to push through for you all and have managed to play many, many, many shows, but sadly I've now hit breaking point and really need to take some time to look after myself.

Disclosure’s Howard Lawrence To Miss Australian Tour To Focus On Mental Health

By Tyler Jenke

Howard Lawrence, one half of the sibling electronic duo Disclosure , has announced he will not be visiting Australia when the band’s tour begins later this week. The English musician took to social media to reveal he will instead by taking time off to look after himself and focus on mental health.

“I’m very sorry to say that I won’t be joining Guy on our Australian tour this year,” Lawrence wrote. “As those of you who follow my personal account may already know, I’ve been really struggling with being back on the road touring again.”

“This year I’ve done my absolute best to push through for you all, and have managed to play many, many shows, but sadly I’ve now hit a breaking point and really need to take some time to look after myself,” Lawrence said. “Guy (absolute soldier) will still be coming with the rest of our amazing team to deliver bangers to all you lovely ravers down under.”

He concluded with an apology: “I’m sorry to let you all down and I hope you understand. I promise I’ll spend the time writing more songs for you all to make up for it.”

Lawrence joins a number of artists who, in recent months, have announced they will be prioritising their mental health over touring. The likes of Tom Misch and The Amity Affliction have made similar announcements, with the latter also pointing out the “brutal” schedules and extreme expectations on touring performers .

‘settle’: disclosure’s breakthrough debut album, ‘tyger’: behind tangerine dream’s william blake-inspired visions.

Disclosure’s last project was a DJ-Kicks mix , which was released October 15. The mix features an exclusive edit of Afrofuturist collective Onipa’s “Fire” and previously unreleased tracks from Harry Wolfman and Arfa x Joe. The group also released a brand new song with the mix, “Observer Effect.”

In a statement, Disclosure’s Guy Lawrence said: “ Our last album Energy , which is just a year old, it’s all club bangers. So that’s what the majority of the mix is going to be: still exploring all these different textures. I like to think the mix resembles a lot of Energy , in terms of texture and how it flows. It’s sitting alongside Energy as a companion.”

Additionally, the band recently confirmed a European tour . Disclosure’s forthcoming London dates will mark the brothers’ first gigs in the capital in seven years. They will perform at Heaven (March 2), O2 Academy Brixton (March 4) and Alexandra Palace (March 5).

The dance duo – comprised of brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence – revealed today (September 6) that they will hit the road next March. It comes after they confirmed a trio of London shows last week (these dates have since sold out).

Disclosure’s European tour will see the group take to the stage in Paris, Antwerp, Amsterdam, Berlin, Warsaw, Moscow and other cities throughout March 2022. Tickets go on general sale at 9am CET (8am BST) on Friday (September 10) – you can purchase yours from here .

“After the past 18 months, nothing makes us happier than to announce these European dates,” the duo wrote on Twitter – see that post below.

Disclosure’s forthcoming London dates will mark the brothers’ first gigs in the capital in seven years. They will perform at Heaven (March 2), O2 Academy Brixton (March 4) and Alexandra Palace (March 5).

Last month saw Disclosure top the bill at Reading & Leeds 2021 . In a four-star review of the group’s Main Stage West slot , NME wrote: “The brotherly duo have graduated to bonafide festival kings, continuing to take the cues from their heroes  The Chemical Brothers , who’ve been able to walk into a headlining set anywhere on the planet for the last two decades.

“Tonight’s performance is a leaner, faster version of their show, and though there’s a shimmy away from more traditional live instrumentation, the stripped back set-up packs an almighty punch.”

Disclosure recently released a new EP called ‘Never Enough’ , which followed on from their 2020 studio album ‘ENERGY’ .

Welcome to Australia

Marvels both natural and monumental astound throughout this "dreamtime" land down under... from the monolithic Ayers Rock (Uluru)... to a foodie tour in the multicultural melting pot of Sydney... to Australia's white-sailed landmark... and in the rainbow hues woven throughout the waters that make up the the Great Barrier Reef... the adventure begins here.

Sydney opera house, one of the world's most famous buildings... and more than just an opera house.

One of the most famous and recognizable structures dominating the skyline of iconic Sydney Harbour is the Sydney Opera House. With its striking modern expressionist design by Danish architect Jørn Utzon resembling a series of concrete "shells", it was completed in 1973 after nearly 15 years of construction, and has since become one of the world's most renowned buildings and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Not simply a single "opera house" as its name may imply, this major performing arts center houses numerous performance spaces including concert halls, theatres and recording studios, and is home to Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Theatre Company.

Uluru (Ayers Rock) in the Outback

Aboriginal traditions and a natural wonder at uluru (ayers rock) in australia's "red centre".

Uluru (also known as Ayers Rock) is a massive red sandstone monolith rising dramatically out of the desert Outback (or "Red Centre") in Australia's Northern Territory, and is one of the country's most recognizable features and popular attractions. Sacred to the Pitjantjatjara Anangu, the local Aboriginal people of the region, Uluru is geologically classified as an inselberg (an "island mountain"); a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of Australia's Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, it's a natural wonder that will take your breath away…

The Great Barrier Reef

Discover australia's amazing great barrier reef.

Australia's Great Barrier Reef, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is longer than the Great Wall of China, and considered the largest living thing on Earth. With a biology presentation and snorkeling demonstration en route, Tauck takes you on a cruise to the Outer Reef to swim, snorkel or sightsee in a glass-bottom vessel – or enjoy optional activities like scuba diving, helmet diving and more.

Sydney Harbour

There's no better way to experience iconic sydney harbour than aboard an evening cruise.

With its iconic skyline comprising some of the 20th century's most innovative architecture, Australia's Sydney Harbour is perhaps the most recognizable urban waterfront on Earth. Two of the Harbour's most remarkable "residents" include the striking Sydney Harbour Bridge – the world's tallest steel arch bridge, opened in 1932 and dubbed "The Coathanger" by locals due to its shape – and the Sydney Opera House, one of the world's most distinctive buildings since its completion in 1973 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There's no better way to enjoy the Harbour's highlights than aboard a private evening cruise featuring a reception and dinner.

Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park

Discover aboriginal traditions at tjapukai aboriginal cultural park in cairns.

Established in Cairns, Tropical North Queensland, in 1987, Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park has been sharing the authentic culture and traditions of the local Djabugay Aboriginal people for over three decades through performance, dance, cuisine and the arts. On your visit, you may learn how to "shake a leg" by joining in traditional performances, make fire without a matchstick, and create the haunting sounds of the didgeridoo.

GENEVA (AP) — Exactly 100 years since the Olympics were last staged in Paris, and 128 years since its modern revival in Athens, the Summer Games can still deliver fresh looks for its 33rd edition.

Here is a look at the innovations the Paris Olympics will showcase:

OPENING CEREMONY

This historic first for any Summer Games will launch the Paris Olympics and can be its defining image: Thousands of athletes in a flotilla sailing westward along the River Seine at sunset toward the Eiffel Tower on Friday, July 26.

The ambitious idea was to bring the tone-setting spectacle out of an expensively ticketed stadium and into the city where many more people can see it.

A crowd of 320,000 people is expected on the riverbanks along the 6-kilometer (3.7-mile) route from Pont d’Austerlitz to Pont d’Iéna.

Tickets will be free for about 220,000 invited and security-screened spectators watching from the upper river bank.

About 100,000 paying spectators, including lavish hospitality packages, will watch from the lower riverside and around the Trocadéro plaza — where the parade will end looking across to the Eiffel Tower.

It is the most audacious plan for a main Olympics ceremony — the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics tested a non-traditional opening in downtown Buenos Aires — and its most fraught security risk.

FILE - Teddy Riner of France reacts after defeating Hisayoshi Harasawa of Japan, not shown, in their men's +100kg bronze medal judo match at the 2020 Summer Olympics, Friday, July 30, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan. The world's most famous active judoka attempts to cap his incredible career with a record-tying third individual Olympic gold medal in front of his home fans. Now 35, Riner took a shocking quarterfinal loss in Tokyo, but the 11-time world champion heavyweight still won gold in the mixed team event. (AP Photo/Vincent Thian, File)

The original plan for 600,000 spectators allowed for more spontaneity in the city but less security.

French President Emmanuel Macron has acknowledged the river-borne parade could be moved if the city is struck again by terrorists as it was in 2015 . The closing ceremony on Aug. 11 is scheduled in the Stade de France national arena after it hosts track and field in the final week.

“Since we are professional, there are obviously plan Bs, plan Cs, et cetera,” Macron said in December.

Ideally, Paris will bring its A-game.

GENDER PARITY

Paris was where women first competed at the Olympics — in 1900 with 22 of the 997 athletes in competition.

Women competed in tennis and golf, plus as part of team events in sailing, croquet, and equestrianism.

Charlotte Cooper of Britain became the first female individual gold medalist by winning the tennis singles event.

This time, for the first time, women have an equal share with men of an entry quota that is now 10,500 athletes across 329 events.

“This is our contribution to a more gender-equal world,” IOC president Thomas Bach has said.

That 2.2% proportion of female athletes in 1900 had risen to 23% at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, where American Joan Benoit won the first women’s Olympic marathon.

There were debuts in Los Angeles for rhythmic gymnastics and what was then called synchronized swimming. It is now artistic swimming and men will make their Olympic debut in the event in Paris.

As the total of female athletes approached 50%, the IOC put pressure on Olympic teams that traditionally sent only men to complete. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Brunei included female athletes for the first time at London in 2012.

It reached 48% at the Tokyo Olympics held in 2021 when teams were encouraged to select a man and a woman each to be flagbearers at the opening ceremony.

With gender parity on the field of play, a challenge for the IOC is to one day have a female president. Nine men have led the IOC since 1894.

The next presidential election is due in March 2025, and the Olympic body has only ever had one female candidate. In 2001, Anita DeFrantz, a bronze medalist in rowing for the United States at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, was eliminated first in a five-candidate contest won by Jacques Rogge.

PRIZE MONEY

In Paris, prize money will be paid to gold medalists directly from Olympic revenues in a controversial break with tradition.

Not by the IOC, however, which has clearly objected to the promise made in April by track and field’s governing body World Athletics.

Each of the 48 gold medals in track and field in Paris carries a $50,000 prize. For Los Angeles in 2028, World Athletics also wants to pay prize money for silver and bronze.

Prize money has become routine for Olympic athletes when paid by state governments and national Olympic bodies.

France will pay its gold medalists around $85,000 each. The U.S Olympic and Paralympic Committee runs “Project Gold,” which gives $37,500 for gold, $22,500 for silver and $15,000 for bronze.

However, the $2.4 million pledge announced by World Athletics president Sebastian Coe will come directly from the sport’s share of the IOC’s multi-billion dollar income from broadcasting and sponsor deals.

In Tokyo, the IOC set aside about $540 million for the collective group of Summer Games sports bodies, known as ASOIF, to share among its members . Track is a top-tier Olympic sport and so got the highest payment, almost $39.5 million.

The IOC does not want a trend to develop, prefering governing bodies spend their Olympic revenues on development projects. World Athletics is among the few with money to spare to reward elite athletes.

BREAKING THROUGH

Breakdance will make its Olympic debut in Paris.

Breaking’s 50-year journey from the Bronx will arrive at the Place de la Concorde, where 16 b-boys and 16 b-girls will compete on Aug. 9-10.

The sport’s Olympic path overseen by the World DanceSport Federation follows the downtown opening ceremony concept — tested in Buenos Aires in 2018 and realized in Paris.

Breaking might yet be one and done. It has been dropped for 2028 in Los Angeles before getting a chance to prove itself. Los Angeles organizers have opted instead to give cricket, flag football, lacrosse and squash their modern Olympic debuts.

It is unclear yet if Brisbane will push to give breaking a second chance in 2032.

Add surfing by a beach in Tahiti to the picture postcard images in store from the Paris Olympics.

Staging an event half a world away from the Olympic host city is not unique though this time it is by design, and concurrently.

In 1956, horse quarantine rules in Australia meant equestrian events were held in Stockholm, Sweden, five months before the opening ceremony in Melbourne.

Paris organizers stuck to their wish taking surfing to French Polynesia in the Pacific Ocean even when the IOC preferred to use an option on the mainland, like the Atlantic Ocean resort Biarritz.

Teahupo’o was approved and the controversy that has followed was not about excessive long-haul flights but instead building a tower for the judges in the sea that could damage the coral reef.

Thom Yorke announces 2024 Australian tour

black and white portrait of Thom Yorke holding his right hand up over his face

  • X (formerly Twitter)

Care to spend a rare evening with the renowned Radiohead frontman as he offers new versions of his seminal back catalogue?

Thom Yorke has announced a solo tour of Australia, his first shows on our shore of any kind since Radiohead last toured here in 2012.

The news is a big surprise to fans, and dare we say even a little disappointing to those who were expecting a tour from The Smile – Yorke's new band alongside Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood and drummer Tom Skinner.

However, performing two shows each in Melbourne and Sydney, this solo tour is sure to be special, as Yorke reworks material from his vast discography.

"I will be alone on stage trying a new kind of solo show thing playing versions of songs from my recent and not so recent past," Yorke said in a statement of the upcoming tour, which also takes in New Zealand, SIngapore and Japan.

Here's a taste of what to expect: Yorke performing Radiohead track 'Bloom', the opening from 2011's The King of Limbs, in solo piano mode.

An artist who needs little introduction, Yorke is the creative, angel-faced force out front of Radiohead, one of the most culturally important and critically acclaimed bands of their generation . After rewriting the rule book on what a contemporary band could sound like, his career has stretched into an extensive, explorative career of various solo and collaborative projects.  He's released an awful lot of music since Radiohead's last visit Down Under twelve years ago.

Besides Radiohead's 2016 album A Moon Shaped Pool , there's also been two albums from The Smile: 2022 debut A Light For Attracting Attention and Wall of Eyes , released earlier this year in January.

Yorke has also released several solo and soundtrack projects, including Tomorrow's Modern Boxes (2014), ANIMA (2019), the 2018 score for director Luca Guadagnino's remake of horror movie Suspiria , and most recently, Confidenza , the soundtrack to the 2024 Italian drama of the same name.

Thom Yorke will perform two shows in Melbourne in late October before taking to the stage at the Sydney Opera House forecourt for two shows early November.

"This is historic," says Ben Marshall, Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music.

"I'm ecstatic to announce the long-awaited Opera House debut of one of the greatest musicians of our time … Yorke will bring his hauntingly existential lyrics, inimitable falsetto and rapturous arrangements to the Forecourt for two nights only."

Don't miss Thom Yorke at the following dates. Tickets are on sale from Wednesday 5 June.

Tuesday 29 October — Sidney Myer Music Bowl: Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Land, Melbourne

Wednesday 30 October — Sidney Myer Music Bowl: Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Land, Melbourne

Friday 1 November — Sydney Opera House Forecourt: Gadigal Land, Sydney

Saturday 2 November — Sydney Opera House Forecourt: Gadigal Land, Sydney
