Across the band’s six gigs at Wembley Stadium, they were joined by a bounty of special guests. On August 17, the band enlisted Shaznay Lewis to cover two  All Saints songs, while the previous night saw them joined  by  Natalie Imbruglia , who paid tribute to the late  Olivia Newton-John  by covering ‘Summer Nights’ with the band. They also performed Imbruglia’s 1997 hit ‘Torn’.

Meanwhile, Coldplay also welcomed Craig David , who performed his songs ‘Live In The Moment’, ‘Fill Me In’ and ‘7 Days’ at each of the first two Wembley Stadium shows. Other guests included pianist Victoria Canal and Steve Coogan in character as Alan Partridge , who covered  ABBA ’s 1976 hit ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’ and  Kate Bush ’s  newly-made-cool-again ‘Running Up That Hill’ alongside Jacob Collier .

During the North American leg of their tour in April, Coldplay also brought out  Bruce Springsteen ,  Kylie Minogue  and  Kelly Rowland , who each performed on-stage covers of their songs  ‘Working on a Dream’ ,  ‘Can’t Get You Out of My Head’  and  ‘Independent Women Part I’  respectively.

Reviewing one of the Wembley gigs , NME said: “It’s a joyful spectacle; a masterclass in how a massive pop show can be done. The band seem genuinely thrilled at the reaction, too. “Thank you for coming. These days, it’s so difficult to get to see a show,” Chris notes appreciatively at one point. “Thank you for coming and restoring our faith in humanity; for being peaceful and singing together.” The roars in response indicate that the feeling is mutual.”

Coldplay announce new UK and European shows for 2023

The lengthy ‘music of the spheres’ world tour continues next may.

Coldplay performing live on-stage in 2022

Coldplay have announced three new UK shows for 2023 as part of their extensive ‘Music Of The Spheres’ world tour. Last night (August 21) saw the band wrap up a six-night run of London concerts at Wembley Stadium ahead of two scheduled dates in Glasgow this week (August 23, 24). A series of South American gigs will take place between September 10 and November 8. Today (August 22), it’s been confirmed that Coldplay will head back out on the road for further UK and European shows between May and July, 2023. This additional leg is due to begin in Coimbra, Portugal on May 17. Following a two-night billing in Barcelona, Spain (May 24, 25), Chris Martin and co. will return to these shores to play a pair of concerts at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester (May 31, June 1). They’ll then take to the stage at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on June 6. Tickets go on general sale at 10am local time this Thursday (August 25) –  you’ll be able to purchase yours from here .

Coldplay’s 2023 UK tour dates are as follows:

May 2023 31 – Manchester, Etihad Stadium

June 2023 1 – Manchester, Etihad Stadium 6 – Cardiff, Principality Stadium

After those gigs, Coldplay are set to visit Naples, Milan, Zurich, Copenhagen, Gothenburg and Amsterdam throughout late June and into July. You can find the group’s full live itinerary for this year and next here . The band have shared an official trailer for their forthcoming UK and European tour – check it out above. This past weekend, Coldplay teamed up with Alan Partridge at their penultimate London concert to cover ABBA ‘s ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’ and Kate Bush ‘s ‘Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)’ . Steve Coogan’s much-loved character donned a jacket emblazoned with  Snow Patrol ‘s band logo. “If you’re running up a hill, make sure you wear the correct footwear. Goodnight!” Partridge said to the Wembley crowd. Other guests to have joined Coldplay on-stage in the capital recently include Craig David ,  Natalie Imbruglia  and All Saints’  Shaznay Lewis . In a four-star review of Coldplay’s latest album, last year’s  Music of the Spheres ,  Rolling Stone UK described the project as “spellbinding” . “It’s the sound of a supremely confident band, so aware their music now matches the euphoria of, say, a stadium triumph that ‘Infinity Sign’ slyly reworks rudimentary football chant “Olé Olé Olé” into something quite beautiful. It shouldn’t work but it does: epitomising Coldplay’s breathless ascent ever higher. It’s just a thrill to be along for the ride.”

Coldplay at Etihad Stadium Manchester 2023 – stage times, support act, tickets and setlist

It's a massive gig for the city - here's what you need to know if you're heading down.

Daisy Jackson

Coldplay will finally touch down in Manchester this month for their long-awaited Music of the Spheres World Tour.

The group, fronted by Chris Martin, will be performing a whopping four nights at the 60,000-capacity Etihad Stadium, home ground of Manchester City.

It’s the first time they’ve brought this tour to the city, choosing London and Glasgow on last year’s run of shows.

Coldplay are one of the most successful and popular bands of the last three decades, with nine albums and endless sold-out concerts in their back catalogue.

They’re also famed for putting on a staggering live show.

This 2023 tour promises to be as environmentally beneficial as possible . They’ve even added a kinetic dance floor that harvests energy from the audience’s dancing, and installed electricity-generating pedal bikes so that the crowd can recharge the band’s battery by having a little cycle.

If you’re heading to see Coldplay at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, here’s everything you need to know.

When are Coldplay performing in Manchester?

Coldplay at Wembley

Coldplay will be taking over the Etihad Stadium for FOUR nights – quite a feat.

They’ll be performing on Wednesday 31 May, Thursday 1 June, Saturday 3 June and Sunday 4 June.

Are there still Coldplay tickets available?

Demand for tickets when they went on sale was phenomenally high – fans reported being in 400,000-strong virtual queues .

So as you might expect, tickets are extremely hard to come by at this point.

At the time of writing, there was one single, lonely seat left in the entire venue for the band’s opening show – and absolutely nothing for subsequent dates.

Keep checking See Tickets here for any last-minute releases.

And if you try to buy tickets second-hand, make sure you’re using a reputable resale site so you don’t get caught out by scammers.

Who is supporting Coldplay in Manchester?

Chvrches will support Coldplay in Manchester

Coldplay have called upon the phenomenally talented Glasgow group Chvrches to be their main support act in Manchester.

The trio, fronted by Lauren Mayberry, are famed for hit singles including Get Out, The Mother We Share, and Gun.

Naturally, for a gig of this scale, one support act won’t do – Coldplay will also be supported by Manchester electronic-indie band Porij.

Each of their songs feels like a love letter to the Hacienda rave scene and bands which came before like New Order.

What are the stage times?

According to the Man City site, these are the stage times for Colplay and their support acts.

  • Campus opening time – 2pm
  • Doors open – 5pm
  • Porij – 6pm-6.30pm
  • Chvrches – 7pm-7.45pm
  • Coldplay – 8.15pm-10.15pm

What’s the expected setlist?

How to get to the Etihad Stadium

coldplay tour dates uk 2023

Public-transport wise, the Metrolink is the most direct way to get to the Etihad Stadium (and its dedicated tram stop Etihad Campus), which is just a few stops away from Manchester Piccadilly.

Both Holt Town and Velopark Metrolink stops, located on either side of the Etihad Campus stop, will not be open for at least an hour after an event at the stadium.

The trams will be very busy though, and the weather looks good, so you might prefer to walk – it’s around a 30 minute stroll from town with this safe walking route recommended.

If you need to drive, official car parking is priced at £25 for cars, £50 for coaches, and £40 for mini buses.

There are unofficial car parks near the stadium too but make sure you’re not getting ripped off.

Weather forecast in Manchester for Coldplay

Oh guys, you’re in luck – for once in its life Manchester has a stunning weather forecast for the entire run of Coldplay shows.

It’s set to be sunny with highs of 19 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, then there’s more sunshine with a high of 20 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. Glorious.

That’s just about as good as it gets for a Manc; not to go over the top right from the off but Liam Gallagher’s first night at the Co-op Live arena is comfortably up there with one of the best gigs we’ve ever been to.

We could end the review right there and we’re sure you’d understand (we don’t think it needs explaining why seeing Definitely Maybe played live in full to a home crowd all these years later is so special) but we’re going to carry on anyway.

We also could spend time bigging up the supports and how great they were, which is entirely true – there’s also a lot of understandable excitement about Liam’s son Gene Gallagher and the opening warm-up act, Villanelle – but, honestly, we just want to relive last night.

It’s not hard to see why…

View this post on Instagram A post shared by THE MANC AUDIO 🎙 (@themancaudio)

First things first, it’s probably fair to start off by saying that regardless of the palava when it first opened or rather struggled to, Co-op Live is quite a sight to behold.

There are plenty of people who have taken aim at the ‘big black box’ now sitting right next to Manchester City’s stadium and the wider Etihad Campus, but once you see it in the evening, lit up with its digital hoardings and especially in the bowl itself, it’s pretty impressive, it has to be said.

Obviously, the location felt fitting for such a massive Blue and LG made sure to have his beloved football club represented on stage, however, it more just highlighted how this man could fill a room of pretty much any size.

As we waited for his arrival whilst the roadies rolled back the years (quite literally) and recreated the Definitely Maybe album cover for the set, you couldn’t help but be blown away by the scale of everything as roughly 23,5000 people poured in to celebrate Oasis ‘ timeless debut album 30 years on.

liam oasis gigs 2024

And that’s what it was: a pure celebration. From the moment he kicked the arena into gear with ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’, the place barely stopped bouncing except for the likes of ‘Whatever’ and ‘Half The World Away’, as they were too busy being a choir in those moments.

He even dedicated the latter to its original singer and his big brother Noel , as well as tackling the likes of ‘D’Yer Wanna Be a Spaceman?’ and ‘Lock All The Doors’, which the older Gallagher already dug out of the archives with High Flying Birds – though it was interesting to see how the two versions differed.

We will always be envious of those who were there at the very start; for the likes of the Knebworth and Maine Road gigs, as we can only imagine how nuts the atmosphere must have been at the very height of Britpop , but if this is the closest we ever come to recreating that we will absolutely take it.

Getting to hear those “cheeky” B-sides from that seminal record was a treat too, mainly because as was often the case with Oasis, they were just as popular as the official tracklist and not a single lyric was missed. Manchester hasn’t even come to moving past its best-ever band and probably never will.

liam gallagher dedication manchester

What made this gig even more staggering is that we’d just seen Foo Fighters light up the Emirates Old Trafford on Thursday and knew they were playing again at the same time we were all doing our best ‘sunshyiiiiiine’, but there wasn’t a single part of us wondering which was the better gig. Sorry, Dave.

Is the local bias taking a good chunk of the wheel here? Absolutely. Do we care one bit? Not even a little.

We’ve seen Liam play his own stuff and some old favourites before; we’ve seen Noel fill Wythenshawe Park and play as many Oasis tracks as he likes, but nothing comes close to seeing the album that started it all being played in Manchester at its newest and biggest venue.

Liam said that he wanted to “put this arena on the map” before he kicked into ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ and he didn’t just do that, he blew the roof off the place. And that’s an expensive bloody roof…

liam gallagher manchester review first night

  • Manchester’s Beyond The Music festival returns for second year with exciting first-wave
  • Oasis reunion rumours return after ‘reserved for Noel’ seat spotted at Liam Gallagher gig
  • Sugababes and Rita Ora added to huge Manchester Pride Festival 2024 line-up

What’s more, the 51-year-old proved two things: this is exactly why he’s one of the greatest frontmen of all time, even if his voice isn’t quite as crisp as it once was (it’s still one of the most distinct on the planet), and that Oasis are still the best thing since sliced bread. The bee’s knees. The absolute b*****ks.

We’re not going to start arguing over where they fit among the greatest of all time – we know even Liam Gallagher himself would say, ‘Don’t talk daft, it’s The Beatles’ and so on – but we’re not sure we’ll ever be able to describe just how much Oasis are intrinsically part of what makes Manchester what it is.

Banging on about a reunion year after year feels pretty useless as we know it would take some extraordinary circumstances for it to happen, but all we’ll say is that at this point Noel is just missing out on playing some of the best shows you could ever hope for.

That being said, watching Liam Gallagher give Co-op Live its biggest gig yet was a privilege and until they both kiss and makeup to give the fans what they want, we’re here for these nostalgic nights and you best believe we’ll be going to the (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? anniversary tour if it happens too.

Core memory type stuff this. @liamgallagher ’s first night at @TheCoopLive was, as the man himself would say, BIBLICAL. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/rJONZ1jG6I — Danjo (@DannehJones) June 16, 2024

The beautiful Rivington Brewing Co taproom

After a long afternoon of trudging through the countryside in whatever weather conditions the north throws at you, there’s nothing quite like the reward of a crisp pint.

And on a particularly beautiful walk right on the outskirts of Greater Manchester, we stumbled upon a taproom that might just provide the best drinking background in the region.

Let’s start with the walk details.

If you haven’t yet been exploring the trails and paths around Rivington, you’re missing out on a real stunner of a hike.

There are countless loops you can do around the area, providing the best bits of all countryside settings.

You want woods? They’ve got em. A nice flat walk beside a body of water? Rivington’s got it. A decent uphill trudge ending in absolutely stunning views? Yep, that’s here too.

A highlight of this corner of the North West is the Rivington Terraced Gardens, which will try to transport you to Italy and Japan all while only just stepping outside Bolton.

These 100-year-old gardens were created by the Lord of Leverhulme and inspired by his travels, and have been carefully restored in recent years by teams of volunteers.

Views from the water's edge at Rivington reservoir

Walking around the footpaths and flights of steps you’ll stumble upon a hidden Japanese Garden, lakes, waterfalls, bridges, sculptures and caves, ending up at the top of Rivington Pike with panoramic views.

From here, you can keep going along to Winter Hill for arguably even more impressive views, or start to loop back down the hill to the water’s edge, passing Liverpool Castle as you go.

And here is where the beer comes in.

If you pass through the village of Rivington itself and walk along Horrobin Lane which crosses the two reservoirs, you’ll find yourself at the Rivington Brewing Co taproom.

The most scenic pint in the north west

This is huge taproom is a haven for modern craft beer, with absolutely loads of brews to choose from and a can fridge if the 18-odd taps don’t have what you fancy.

There’s plenty of cosy spaces inside the fairylight-strewn converted barn building, but the beer garden is the star of the show.

There are views from here right across the water and all the way to Pigeon Tower and Winter Hill, with plenty of space for big groups.

And dotted all around the outdoor area are a rotating selection of street food traders, serving everything from pizza to burgers to cakes.

If you’re looking for a belting Saturday afternoon activity, this is absolutely the one.

You can look a walk in the area that suits your ability here .

  • Beautiful Greater Manchester walks you can get to using public transport
  • There are two pubs in Stalybridge holding Guinness World Records – for opposite reasons
  • A massive craft beer festival with free-flowing beer is heading back to Manchester this July

Coldplay Announce 2023 European & UK Dates for 'Music of the Spheres' World Tour

Tickets for the new European and UK shows will go on sale at 10am local time on Thursday, 25 August.

The morning after completing their triumphant run of six sold out nights at London's Wembley Stadium, Coldplay have announced further European and UK stadium shows for their Music Of The Spheres World Tour in summer 2023. The dates include the tour's first visits to Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands, alongside UK shows in Manchester and Cardiff.

LATEST NEWS

Since the band's record-breaking tour began in Costa Rica in March 2022, more than four million tickets have been sold for the dates in Latin America, North America and Europe, which have attracted rave reviews from fans and critics alike (as per the recent praise for the Wembley shows above).

The tour has also been heralded for its groundbreaking set of sustainability initiatives which include a show powered by 100% renewable energy in almost all locations; the world's first tourable battery system (made from 40 BMW electric car batteries); power bikes and kinetic dancefloors allowing fans to help power the show; solar panels and wind turbines at every venue; a pledge to cut tour emissions by 50%; incentives to encourage fans to travel by green transport; and one tree planted for every ticket sold. Full info here .

The new tour dates were teased via Easter eggs in the band's new video for Humankind (taken from their number one album, Music Of The Spheres) which premiered last week. To the excitement of the band's eagle-eyed global following, the video also hinted at further shows being announced for south-east Asia and North America.

Tickets for the new European and UK shows will go on sale at 10am local time on Thursday, 25 August. Full details can be found here .

Coldplay have announced 2023 dates on their world tour in support of Music of the Spheres . Next year, the band will perform in Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Find Coldplay’s schedule and a trailer for the tour below.

Coldplay famously declined to tour in support of Everyday Life for environmental reasons. The band has set out to make the Music of the Spheres World Tour more sustainable, with a press releasing touting concerts powered entirely by renewable energy. For example, there have been solar panels and wind turbines at every venue to help power the shows.

Here's everything you need to know.

How to get Coldplay tickets

Coldplay fans will be able to get their hands on tickets to the latest tour dates when they go on sale on Thursday, August 25 at 10am.

The tickets will be available via Ticketmaster .

There will be no presale for the new dates.

What have Coldplay said about the Music of the Spheres tour?

Ahead of the COP26 summit last year, Coldplay stated that they wished for the Music of the Spheres tour to be one of the greenest in history as they pushed to make their event more environmentally friendly.

The band told social media platform Twitter at the time: “We’ve been planning this tour for years, and we’re super excited to play songs from across our whole time together.

“At the same time, we’re very conscious that the planet is facing a climate crisis.

“So we’ve spent the last two years consulting with environmental experts to make this tour as sustainable as possible, and, just as importantly, to harness the tour’s potential to push things forward.

“We won’t get everything right, but we’re committed to doing everything we can and sharing what we learn."

They added: “It’s a work in progress and we’re really grateful for the help we’ve had so far.

"If you’d like to come to a show and sing with us, we’re so excited to see you.”

As well as the "show battery", which has been supplied by BMW to run the show via renewable energy, there are many other ways during the concert where fans can get involved to make the event more sustainable.

At the concerts, there are kinetic floors placed in certain locations so that fans' movements can be converted into energy, and there are also electricity-generating pedal bikes so fans can actively charge the show's batteries.

These sustainable alternatives will replace the usual diesel and petrol generators, which will reduce the carbon footprint of the tour.

Recent tour reviews

I had always heard Coldplay were a fantastic band to see live. They did not disappoint last night at Fedex Field, right in the midst of their joyous and decidedly over-the-top Head Full of Dreams tour.

The show began with an explosion of color and light (including the LED wristbands supplied to every concertgoer) in the titular track on the band's touring album. Then came fan-favorite "Yellow," followed by "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall," the ever-popular "The Scientist," and "Birds" (the latter was a bit of a personal disappointment as it replaced the brilliant "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face" from recent setlists). This part of the show finished with the anthem "Paradise," featuring an incredible remix outro.

Next the show slowed down for an intimate trio of songs (most of us actually took a seat). This included one of the better tracks from the sub-par "Ghost Stories", "Magic."

Soon, however, things picked up with the timeless piano strokes of "Clocks," themed to a magical red light show. Next came the lighthearted "Charlie Brown." Before it began, lead singer Chris Martin asked everyone to put away their phones and simply enjoy the show. This was followed by the radio hit "Hymn for the Weekend," a candlelit (okay...Iphone flashlight lit) "Fix You," and "Viva la Vida." This last one was remarkable, as nearly the entire stadium knew the lyrics and sang along to the triumphant "Oh-oh-ohhhh" chant. The groovy "Adventure of a Lifetime" finished off this section, featuring Chris gettin' down with the audience, asking everyone to "Get low!"

Then came the highlight of the night for me: an acoustic quad of older (*cough* better *cough*) Coldplay songs which were as intimate as they were nostalgic. The lovely riffs of "In my Place" started off the set. "Don't Panic" was sung by drummer Will Champion; it's one of my favorites. But it couldn't top what was (for me) the best song of the night: "Trouble." Somber but beautiful in its own way, "Trouble" is a rare find in the setlists of today's Coldplay and was absolutely fantastic. Finally came another rare gem: "Green Eyes," which was somewhat marred by Chris's well-intentioned attempt at giving the local Redskins some luck (HA! what folly) by changing the lyrics.

The finale of the show was the hopeful and popular trio of "Something Just like This," "A Sky Full of Stars," and "Up and Up." This last track was played against the backdrop of the magical and visually stunning music video for the song.

And if there were two adjectives to sum up the show as a whole, they would be just that: magical and visually stunning. Thanks for an awesome show, Coldplay!

First of all I need to just say wow! Wow! Yesterday I experienced one of the greatest nights of my life. Yesterday I really did feel like I was part of something special, something so big and beautiful. The love, the happiness and the excaitment people were feeling last night were something you can't put words on. We stood in the rain for so many hours, we sat in a que and then we stood in the rain again.. but let me just say that when Coldplay came on stage they put on the best god damn show ever. You could really feel their thankfulness during the show. They promised us (in Chris Martins own words) "The best fucking show ever" and let me tell you it was! During the night I got to experience people from different countries dancing and singing along together, I got to experience that moment when Chris decided to write a new song about Sweden and Gothenburg! The night was amazing in so many ways. And just as he said during the night, that he believes when people are working together and last night everybody in that arena stood together. We celebrated the music, the evening and most of all we celebrated the love. Because in the end of the day Love is what matters and it will always win.

Yesterday was beautiful, just pure beautiful!

A Coldplay concert is a real face to face experience for a someone who love their songs. It may not be an intimate experience but considering the legions of fans that they have only a concert can accommodate everyone who are waiting all their lives for a chance to hear them live. and they never disappoint. A total performance complete with lasers and light and firework BUT without much fanfare, just them singing & playing their hearts OUT song after song alone or in harmony with the fans some crying, most gleefully dancing to their upbeat song or swaying OR slow dancing to slow Fix You or Yellow and probably thinking of someone they "cannot replace". Chris Martin is an awesome guy and so are the rest of the band. May their personal lives be as awesome as their professional lives, they deserve that too. as to Singapore, it may not be as engaging as it would be in the Philippines but hey, no one can complain; i had the best time celebrating my birthday in one of the best stadium this side of town with around 50K Coldpay fans celebrating with me :) :). Long live Coldplay, may you continue to bring joy to you fans worldwide. Looking forward to another Coldplay concert experience in the future.
