Beyonce performing at the Renaissance tour

A few weeks after London saw the coronation of King Charles , they’re preparing for the arrival of the Queen Bee.

Beyoncé will be buzzing into town, bringing with her swarms of fans desperate to capture her legendary stage prowess – especially as it’s her first live shows here in six years.

Beyoncé’s latest tour is the Renaissance Tour, named after the disco-inspired album titled Renaissance released in July 2022.

It’s reportedly going to earn the artist a not-so-shabby £1.6bn – we’d be throwing a disco party for that, too.

What can lucky fans with a ticket expect to see from the show and can you still nab a ticket?

When are Beyoncé’s London tour dates?

Beyonce will be playing five dates in London. The shows are on:

  • Monday, May 29
  • Tuesday, May 30
  • Thursday, June 1
  • Saturday, June 3
  • Sunday, June 4

She will be playing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Beyoncé returned to the stage for first time in four years in January

Last month, Beyoncé made her return to the stage and performed at the opening of the Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai. Despite the luxury experience, the singer left fans wanting more, as she did not perform any songs from "Renaissance," The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The invitation-only event marked her first concert in more than four years. She last performed at the  Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 event in 2018.

Beyoncé dominates Grammy nominations

The singer's tour announcement comes days ahead of the Grammys where Beyoncé leads the 2023 lineup with nine nominations, including best dance/electronic album ("Renaissance"), best R&B performance ("Virgo’s Groove") and best traditional R&B performance ("Plastic Off the Sofa").

With 28 wins and 88 total career nominations, Beyoncé now ties her husband, rapper Jay-Z , for the most nominations in Grammy history. If Beyoncé picks up four or more awards this year, she will surpass the late Georg Solti for the most Grammy wins of all time. (The Hungarian-born conductor holds the record with 31.)

Beyoncé called out by Monica Lewinsky: over 'Partition' lyric after ableism controversy

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have got "to be the most intense power couple in the history of music," Recording Academy president Harvey Mason Jr. Mason said after the nominations were revealed. "That’s music and Grammy royalty – that’s the royal family."

Their combined 176 nominations are "absolutely a testament to their talent, to their level of excellence, to their work ethic, to their level of greatness over a long period of time. I don’t even know what the next (leading) couple would be, but it’s not anywhere close.”

Beyoncé's 'Break My Soul.' Taylor Swift's 'Anti-Hero.'  These are the 10 best songs of 2022, ranked.

Beyoncé noticeably was not nominated in any of the music video categories for the Grammys, having not released any album visuals for "Renaissance" since its debut.

beyonce dubai performance

As expected, Beyoncé has announced a 2023 world tour on Instagram, supporting her multiple-Grammy-nominated 2022 album, “Renaissance.” She also released the dates and cities on her official website.

The timing of the announcement, which comes just days before the Grammy Awards on Sunday, sparks speculation that the singer may perform or at least appear on the show. Beyoncé is the most nominated artist for the awards with nine, all related to “ Renaissance .” Sources tell Variety that her husband Jay-Z will perform with DJ Khaled on the show, most likely their nominated song “God Did.”

Related stories, how roblox is facilitating animated films’ domination of 2024 box office, emmys' confusing nomination formula no longer makes sense post-peak tv.

Beyoncé has said that “Renaissance” is a three-part project, so it’s possible that the next parts could be another album, a long-form video project or even the tour itself.

Beyoncé’s last full tour was the nearly six-month, 49-date “Formation” tour in 2016, which unusually featured no guest appearances until the final show, at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, where she brought out Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z.

She did, however, stage an epochal “Homecoming” headlining performance at the 2018 Coachella festival — which was postponed from 2017 due to the birth of her and Jay’s twins — for which she was accompanied by a full marching band in a nod to historically Black colleges and universities. That blockbuster performance was later released as the “Homecoming” album and — via a three-project deal with Netflix that sources tell Variety is worth $60 million — a feature-length documentary. It seems possible that a future “Renaissance” video project could be part of that deal as well.

Beyoncé Has Announced London Dates For Her ‘Renaissance’ World Tour

Beyoncé is hitting London in May this year in support of her latest album 'Renaissance' - catch her waltzing into the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for two nights.

Jack Saddler

Get ready to have your souls broken: Beyoncé is coming back into town. In support of last year’s critically-acclaimed album Renaissance , the superstar is heading back out on the road for a world tour, with two nights in London coming up.

Kicking off in May is the European leg of Beyoncé’s tour – after nights in Cardiff and Edinburgh, she will hit London for two nights at the 62,000 capacity stadium of Tottenham Hotspur football club on May 29-30 .

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce)

Taking to Instagram to announce the news, Beyoncé released a post that simply read: “RENAISSCANCE WORLD TOUR 2023,” with a suitably iconic photo of the artist atop of a silver horse; much like the recent album cover. Her website gives a full list of tour dates. Tickets for UK shows can be purchased here , with the main sale commencing on February 7 (though a number of pre-sales from O2, BeyHive, and Live Nation are taking place before this date).

The Renaissance tour marks Beyoncé’s first major outings since her co-headline On The Run II set of dates with husband Jay-Z, which saw the two artists play a duo of nights at the London Stadium. Beyoncé’s last solo UK tour dates back to 2016, when London was treated to two nights at Wembley Stadium in support of her album Lemonade . Last month, the singer did perform her first concert in four years in Dubai, but no material from Renaissance was performed.

Renaissance was released on July 29, 2022 ; and marked Beyoncé’s fourth UK number one album. Following its release, Beyoncé was nominated for a 2023 BRIT Award for Best International Artist . She is also nominated for nine Grammy awards including Record of the Year and Song of the Year .

Where can you get tickets?

Tickets for the North American leg of the tour will be available through Ticketmaster's Verified Fan program. Tickets will go on sale Monday, Feb 6, with an exclusive presale to BeyHive members, according to a Live Nation press release.

Verified Fan registration is now open. Once you register, you'll be placed in a lottery system that determines which fans get invited to purchase tickets. Registration alone doesn't guarantee tickets. If you're selected, you'll get an access code the day before tickets go on sale. Everyone else will be placed on a waitlist. According to Live Nation, this process is intended to help Ticketmaster weed out the resellers and verify your account so that actual fans get priority to buy tickets.

Citi cardmembers will have a special Citi Presale after the Verified Fan process. Get more details here . Verizon will also offer an exclusive presale through their customer loyalty program Verizon Up .

Will Beyoncé be using Ticketmaster like Taylor Swift to sell tickets?

Yes, but given what happened with Taylor Swift's Eras tour (and the fact it led to Congressional hearings about Ticketmaster ’s practices), it seems very likely both Beyoncé and Ticketmaster would want to avoid repeating that mess. That most likely explains the usage of the Verified Fan system.

Where will Beyoncé be playing?

The Renaissance World Tour will hit 40 cities in North America and across Europe. Stops include Paris, London, Amsterdam, Toronto, Chicago, East Rutherford, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Houston, and many more.

What has Beyoncé said about the Renaissance World Tour?

She just announced it was happening with a post on February 1. Her website didn't immediately contain any more details. But during the Wearable Art Gala in October 2022, she appeared to confirm it would start this summer, as a backstage tour with her mother Tina Lawson was up for auction at the event.

Will Beyoncé be performing at the Grammys (on February 5) and sharing more tour details there?

Not clear yet, but she is the most nominated artist at the ceremony . On January 21, Variety reported that “ talks with show producers are ongoing for a possible onstage appearance ” by Beyoncé.

What can we expect from the tour on stage?

Beyoncé hasn't shared that yet either, but given the artistry she put into her recent Dubai show , it's fair to say we can expect no less than excellence, elaborate costumes, and an incredible experience.

This post will be updated the moment more detail is released.

The Taylor Swift Economy Has Overtaken London. I Went to Its Epicenter.

I’ve never seen anything quite like what the superstar is doing to my city..

Taylor Swift is in London. Even the least culturally clued-in person could not have failed to notice. The city is full of people in “Eras” merch, and social media is awash in concert footage from the tour dates at Wembley Stadium: Travis Kelce donning a top hat and tails to make his own onstage debut, Prince William celebrating his 42 nd birthday by shaking it off in his private box. We’ve got an election going on here at the moment, so candidates are busy doing things in public to appear maximally normal. Keir Starmer, leader of the opposition, posted a photo of himself on what he described as a “Swift campaign pitstop” at the “Eras” tour on Friday. Mayor Sadiq Khan posted a version of London’s underground map with all the stops replaced by Taylor Swift song titles and captioned it “London (Taylor’s Version).” For better or worse, this has indeed felt like her town, for a weekend.

But one specific place in London is an interesting Petri dish in which to examine the Taylor Swift effect. Before April of this year, the Black Dog pub, in south London’s Vauxhall neighborhood, was an unremarkable sort of place. I live nearby and had been once or twice before. It’s a local joint that does decent food and serves beer—just a pub, in other words. However, after Swift released The Tortured Poets Department , the establishment found itself catapulted to international recognition. The extended, Anthology edition of the album features a song called “The Black Dog,” in which Swift as narrator describes realizing that a lover—presumably one of the two Londoner boyfriends that most of the album is about—had forgotten to turn off location sharing, and she then works out that he is cheating on her by tracking him to a bar by that name.

I went down this past weekend to see whether there would be any Swifties at the pub before or after their “Eras” experience and, if so, to ask them to explain themselves. As I walked over there, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, I sort of expected to be disappointed. Why would people in London for a weekend, some of them from as far afield as the States, spend any of their precious time at a bog-standard pub in a part of town well off the tourist trail? Surely they had better places to be? This was just a bonus track, after all.

I need not have worried. The Black Dog was swarming with groups of friends with “Eras” tote bags; mums and their tweenage daughters in “Eras” T-shirts; beleaguered boyfriends taking photographs of their girlfriends, all their arms bedecked in lettered bands spelling out their favorite albums and songs and lyrics. On the grass outside the pub, there were even a handful of girls stringing together more of these friendship bracelets. Inside, it was even busier, and anyone hoping for a table without a reservation was kidding themselves.

The pub sells merchandise now: pink Black Dog baseball caps, pint glasses embossed with the establishment’s logo, and, of course, friendship bracelets. Taylor Swift plays over the speakers. According to one staff member wearing a Black Dog friendship bracelet, it has been busy not just all weekend but all month. Swift fans seeing the tour elsewhere on the Continent have been incorporating the concert into a wider holiday, stopping in London on their own European tour. There was a somewhat harassed-looking security guard in an orange cap outside yelling at the Swifties to stay out of the way of cars as they got their pictures taken with a sign with the lyric “And so I watch as you walk into some bar called the Black Dog.” The guard was himself wearing a full sleeve of letter beads that fans had given to him, including one wristlet that read “Go Chiefs,” a phrase that holds no meaning for most Londoners. As I stood there, three South African women in “Eras” merch were debating which of theirs to bestow upon him. “Give him ‘King of My Heart,’ ” one said. “It will match his hat.”

I spoke to Michelle and Tammi, sisters based in Tennessee and Florida, who were there with their daughters. They were in London to see Swift the following night, and would be around till Tuesday. Maya, one of the daughters, said that “The Black Dog” was her favourite song of all, so this was the one thing she wanted to do in the city other than see the concert. They were going to the stadium that night too, to listen from outside.

This kind of tourism feels like a relatively new thing, in Europe anyway. It happened with Beyoncé’s tour as well: droves of concertgoers traveling to European cities they were otherwise not very interested in, such as the people who flew out specifically for the Stockholm show that kicked off the “Renaissance” tour. But this feels like another level in terms of numbers. This summer, 700,000 are expected to attend the “Eras” tour over the eight dates it will be in London, this month and again in August. A huge portion of that audience will be coming from abroad. Tickets to the European leg of the “Eras” tour are significantly cheaper than they are in the U.S., to the extent that many did the maths and worked out that it would be a better value to get “Eras” tickets in Europe and fly over for the concert. The Greater London Authority estimates that the tour will generate 300 million pounds for the economy, and last week the European Central Bank’s chief economist was heard musing about the megastar’s potential effect on inflation. Swift-themed functions this past weekend included a Taylor Swift drag brunch; a Taylor Swift mini-golf and cocktail event; a Taylor Swift traveling bar bus tour of London; and an adult ball pit experience with Taylor Swift music playing, as well as both warmup parties and after-parties for each concert. I cannot recall another occasion when one person’s presence in a city has kicked off such an enormous response of ancillary events and cash-in attempts. It is no exaggeration when everyone from CNBC to the New York Times writes about her as not just a pop star but an entire economy.

Three women from Ottawa told me that they had thought about coming to the Black Dog during their weekend in London but had bumped it up the agenda to that day because Swift had sung “The Black Dog” the previous night, as one of the two surprise songs she performs at each tour date. I sat down on a bench outside the pub with a group of fans, some from the U.S. and some from London, who had met one another there that day. They had all seen the show the night before. “ Tortured Poets is my favorite album,” a woman in her early 20s named Lily told me, “and we were like, ‘We have to visit the Black Dog.’ Just seeing that this is where she wrote about—it’s crazy. I almost imagine, like, this is the vibe of Tortured Poets , you know what I mean? It’s like the album in real life.”

Two other Swifties, Rachel and Ashley, found out they had gotten off the waitlist for London tickets on Thursday at 11 a.m. in New York. “We bought the tickets and flew here that night. We were in the airport by 4,” Rachel said. They got married last month. “Now we’re like, I don’t know—we thought we had the best night of our life? And then last night happened.” They wanted to come and see the Black Dog because they found the song relatable. “She was stalking her boyfriend, and, like, that’s the most human thing. I’m always looking at my Find My Friends like, Where’s everybody at, what are they doing? ”

Another group, friends from London, sat on the lawn with their pints. “I suggested the Black Dog to these two,” said Zoe, pointing to the other women with her, “and they were like, ‘We don’t know what you’re talking about.’ I was like, ‘It’s where Taylor got cheated on. It’s very important to us!’ ” She wasn’t at all surprised it was busy. “I thought it would be busier, to be honest.”

I guess for all these fans, coming to the Black Dog is a way to (let’s be real) get some Instagram pictures—but also to feel just a tiny bit closer to Swift. And her stardom is so astronomical that such feelings can be elicited just by a beer drunk from a plastic cup on some grass outside an unremarkable boozer.

When the “Eras” tour comes to a city, it creates this strange sense of us—the regular locals—and them, the world’s Swifties. As I stood outside the Black Dog, a group walked past.

“It’s crazy that there are so many people, and they’ve got so many bags,” one of the girls said to the others. One of her friends replied: “Imagine being the owner of this pub. They probably hate it.”

They don’t, apparently. Back when the song was released and the pub first started getting Swiftie visitors, the pub’s events manager, Lily Bottomley, told the BBC that the attention had been “pretty overwhelming” but that the bar “ can’t be happier ,” by which she presumably at least in part meant: “We are making a lot of money.”

People eating on the terrace outside an adjacent café were craning their necks to see what the fuss was about. One customer got up and walked over to an American woman wearing friendship bracelets.

“What’s all this?” the customer said in a south London accent.

“Oh, it’s because of the Taylor Swift song,” the American woman replied.

“All right,” the Londoner said before returning to the café, looking over her shoulder periodically with a bemused expression on her face.

Ms. Lauryn Hill and the Fugees Unveil New Miseducation Anniversary Tour Dates

The "Ex-Factor" singer postponed the tour in November due to vocal issues

beyonce tour london dates

"Ready or Not" — Ms. Lauryn Hill and The Fugees are going back on the road!

On Monday, June 24, Hill announced she would be reuniting with The Fugees — Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel — for a co-headlining extension of the Miseducation Anniversary tour.

The 21-date tour, which features music from The Miseducation of Ms. Lauryn Hill ,  The Score  and more, will kick off Aug. 9 in Tampa, Florida. Together, they'll make stops throughout major cities in the United States and will also make international stops in London, Manchester, Paris and Amsterdam.

Hill, 49, announced the news on Instagram by sharing the tour poster and captioning the post "The Celebration Continues…"

Hill's son YG Marley, who's best known for his hit song "Praise Jah in the Moonlight," will serve as a special guest at every show. More special guests will be announced at a later date.

A presale for Citi cardmembers will begin Tuesday, June 25, at 10 a.m. local time at LiveNation.com for U.S. shows. General sales will begin Friday, June 28, at 10 a.m. local time.

Per a press release, $2 from each ticket sold will be donated to MLH Fund, which benefits local and worldwide organizations involving mental health, women’s wellness, community small business development, education and more.

In November, the "Doo Wop" singer announced that the remainder of her 25th anniversary tour would be postponed due to her vocal issues.

"I’d like to start this off by saying how much I’ve enjoyed being on the road, and how much I appreciate all of the fans who have come out to celebrate this incredible milestone anniversary and history making reunion with us. Being able to tour this album to sold out crowds after 25 years has been an emotional experience! I’ve loved sharing the stage again with Wyclef and Pras. The Return of the Fugees has been powerful and amazing—those who’ve witnessed it can testify," she wrote on Instagram.

She continued, "As many of you may know, I’ve been battling serious vocal strain for the past month. I made it through each show by taking prescribed prednisone, but this can be detrimental to the body when taken in large amounts over long periods of time. In order to prevent any long term negative affect on my voice and my body, I need to take time off to allow for real vocal recovery so that I can discontinue the medication completely."

Meanwhile, in May, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill came out on top of Apple Music 's 100 best albums of all time list . The 1998 Grammy-winning album of the year outranked  Beyoncé 's  Lemonade ,  The Beatles '  Abbey Road ,  Michael Jackson 's  Thriller ,  Prince 's  Purple Rain ,  Nirvana 's Nevermind ,  Stevie Wonder 's Songs in the Key of Life ,  Amy Winehouse 's Back to Black ,  Kendrick Lamar 's  good kid, m.A.A.d city and  Frank Ocean 's Blonde .

The Taylor Swift Economy Has Landed in Europe

Economists are debating what effect the singer’s sweep through Europe will have this summer as swarms of fans increase demand for hotels and services.

Images of Taylor Swift are projected on a giant screen during a performance.

By Eshe Nelson

Reporting from London

It’s not just Taylor Swift fans keeping a close eye on her Eras Tour dates. One of Europe’s most prominent economists is acutely aware that the singer is spending the summer jetting between Europe’s stadiums.

Philip Lane, the chief economist at the European Central Bank, had the pop star on his mind when he spoke at an event on Monday. The interviewer had asked him about the risk that stubborn inflation in the services sector could intensify, especially with Europe heading into a particularly busy summer with the Olympics in Paris and the Euro 2024 soccer championship in Germany.

“Well, that’s very interesting,” he said at the event . “You managed to say all that without saying Taylor Swift.”

Ms. Swift is touring Europe this summer, bringing in her wake hundreds of thousands of Swifties spending on airfare, hotels, restaurants and friendship bracelets . On Friday, she will perform the first of eight shows at London’s Wembley Stadium; about 700,000 people are expected to see the shows in the British capital. And analysts are debating the economic footprint it will leave.

Economists in the United States know that Eras is an economic tour de force. As consumers splurged on concerts, meals, vacations and other recreational experiences they missed out on during pandemic lockdowns, one company estimated that the tour could generate $4.6 billion in North America alone from spending on tickets, merchandise and travel.

Central bankers are justified in scrutinizing the potential inflationary effects of the arrival of a global superstar: In May last year, when Beyoncé kicked off her Renaissance World Tour in Stockholm, an economist attributed a blip in the inflation data to the singer’s concert, as fans traveled from afar to witness the first show.

Europe’s central banks have started to cut interest rates — or are poised to — as inflation has slowed substantially over the past year, putting their 2 percent target rates within sight. But there are lingering concerns that inflationary pressures have not been stamped out because price gains for services, which include hotels and restaurants, are repeatedly higher than expected.

The demand that the Eras Tour creates for hotel rooms and flights across Europe could push up prices that feed into each country’s inflation rate. Central bankers are sensitive to even minute changes in the data as they try to distinguish one-off effects from lasting ones. If central bankers worry that inflation is not slowing as expected, they could hold off cutting rates.

“All those tiny quirks are going to matter a lot,” said Lucas Krishan, a strategist at TD Securities in London. They can “muddle the picture for central banks heading into these decisions.”

Last month, Portugal’s inflation rate accelerated, in part because of a jump in hotel prices in Lisbon “resulting from a major cultural event,” the country’s statistics office said. Ms. Swift performed in Lisbon on May 24 and 25.

The impact that events like Ms. Swift’s tour have on inflation can be mitigated by how well a country’s economists anticipate the effect of her concerts so investors and others are not surprised by the data. Policymakers at the European Central Bank have said that the path back to 2 percent inflation will be “bumpy” and that a relatively strong tourism season is already baked into their forecasts.

But Mr. Krishan said it was possible that Ms. Swift's concerts in August, when the tour swings back through London, could increase services inflation in Britain, especially because one of her tour dates may coincide with the day that the nation’s statistics agency records price data. If hotel prices follow the pattern set when she played in Liverpool this month, services inflation could rise as much as 0.3 percentage points. Higher-than-expected inflation data in August could encourage Bank of England officials to hold off on cutting rates in September, Mr. Krishan said.

Other analysts are skeptical of Ms. Swift’s ability to have a seismic impact that shows up in national statistics.

“Taylor Swift is unlikely to be affecting central bank policy. She’s unlikely to be affecting government policy,” said George Moran, an economist at Nomura. “And I don’t think it’s a sustainable option for growth in a country to rely on having superstar concerts.”

Barclays predicted that Ms. Swift's tour would lead to a bump of nearly 1 billion pounds ($1.3 billion) in the British economy , but those suggestions are hard to substantiate, Mr. Moran said, because no one knows how much people are diverting their spending from other activities. Even then, £1 billion would not be enough to revitalize Britain’s stagnant economy .

Still, Mr. Moran added that for individual cities and certain sectors, the tour could have a meaningful impact. When tickets went on sale last summer, Airbnb searches in host cities increased more than 300 percent on average, the company said. The Greater London authority estimated that Ms. Swift’s eight London shows would generate £300 million for the economy .

“The impact is going to be more local than macro,” Mr. Moran said. “Taylor Swift is obviously a massive phenomenon, and the areas that she’s visiting is causing a big buzz in the hospitality sector.”
