Australia's T20 tour of India: All you need to know

22sky-wade-multi-16x9

With Australia's ODI World Cup win over India still fresh, the two sides meet again in the T20 format with the next global event only 195 days away

When does it start?

The ODI World Cup win is still fresh but the cricket machine rolls on, and India host Australia for the first of five T20s beginning Thursday night. The tour will last 11 days with the fifth match played on December 3.

November 23: First T20, Vishakhapatnam

November 26: Second T20, Thiruvananthapuram

November 28: Third T20, Guwahati

December 1: Fourth T20, Raipur

December 3: Fifth T20, Bengaluru

All matches start 12.30am AEDT on the following date

Why is this series relevant?

It's a fair question, coming so hot on the heels of a fantastic 50-over World Cup. And the cheap answer would be to point to Indian cricket's insatiable appetite and the associated TV dollars it brings in. But dig a little deeper and with an ICC event now every 12 months, it is only 195 days until the T20 World Cup starts in June.

That tournament will be held in the Caribbean and the USA and, while there's no denying this series is opportunistic scheduling, it does offer an opportunity for fringe players to stake their claim in the cauldron of international cricket. After all, Australia is only scheduled to play 11 T20s before that World Cup – five here, three against the West Indies at home in February and another three in New Zealand in March.

For the Aussies, this is another chance for a look at the likes of Matt Short, Aaron Hardie and Tanveer Sangha who are all newcomers to international cricket, as well as a notable chance for Steve Smith to press his case as a T20 opener following his Big Bash fireworks last summer.

Every Steve Smith six

So it's not a full-strength Aussie side?

No, but you could take a view that actually adds to the appeal for this series. England hung around in Australia for a white-ball series they were thoroughly uninterested in after their T20 World Cup win last year, but this Australia squad has a fresh injection of personnel.

Squad changes from the ODI World Cup   Coming in: Matthew Wade (c), Aaron Hardie, Jason Behrendorff, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Tanveer Sangha, Matt Short, Kane Richardson   Staying on: Sean Abbott, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa

A host of players including fast bowling trio Pat Cummins, Mitch Starc and Josh Hazlewood have been rested from the series, as have allrounders Mitch Marsh and Cameron Green.

David Warner was initially named in the squad but has been withdrawn, meaning another opportunity for allrounder Aaron Hardie.

From the playing XI that won the ODI World Cup, Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith and Adam Zampa are all included in this squad.

Just how many of those feature in the opening match remains to be seen, with Head in particular having heartily enjoyed the post-match celebrations following his player-of-the-final award for a century in the run chase.

World Cup squad members Sean Abbott and Marcus Stoinis are also staying on for the T20s, as is Tanveer Sangha, who travelled with the World Cup squad as a reserve player.

In addition, coming in fresh are Matthew Wade, who skippers the team, Jason Behrendorff, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Matt Short and Kane Richardson.

Head coach Andrew McDonald also flew home on Wednesday with assistant Andre Borovec to take over for the T20s.

Australia T20 squad: Matthew Wade (c), Aaron Hardie, Jason Behrendorff, Sean Abbott, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Tanveer Sangha, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa

Hang on, didn't Matthew Wade retire?

Talk of the veteran wicketkeeper's international retirement has been proven premature! Matthew Wade, who himself considered his international career over 12 months ago after the T20 World Cup on home soil, is back to captain Australia.

Wade is in the job on an interim basis only, taking over from Mitch Marsh who captained for three matches in South Africa in August. The Tasmanian has not played international cricket since that T20 World Cup last year.

Australia have been without a permanent T20 captain since Aaron Finch retired in February, and do not appear in any rush to appoint one.

Post play raw

How about the Indians?

Plenty of time to lick their wounds for the beaten Indians with only three of their World Cup squad members included in their 16-player group for this series.

Suryakumar Yadav is the only member of the playing XI from the ODI World Cup final to stay on, and will captain the side. Squad members Ishan Kishan and Prasidh Krishna are also in the group while top-order bat Shreyas Iyer will join them for the final two matches.

Hardik Pandya remains out injured after hurting his ankle trying to stop a drive off his own bowling in India's World Cup game against Bangladesh.

India T20 squad: Suryakumar Yadav (c), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Shivam Dube, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar, Shreyas Iyer (last two matches only).

How can I watch?

Fox Cricket and Kayo Sports have exclusive broadcast rights to the tour for Aussie viewers. Kayo's excellent 'Mini' packages and full replays are worth every cent of the subscription fee at times like this. If you're not already onboard with Kayo, get around it here .

How's the time difference?

Honestly, it's not the best for Aussie fans on the east coast. While the World Cup saw the vast majority of games start at 7.30pm, these are shorter T20 matches played entirely in the evening, which means 12.30am start times in Sydney and Melbourne.

Lucky we know a place where you can catch up…

The best way to follow the series?

The cricket.com.au website and CA Live app, of course.

Our team will continue to provide access to the same great live scores and news from the series while still covering everything from the Weber WBBL, Marsh Sheffield Shield and Marsh One-Day Cup as we build into another huge home summer.

Head-to-head

It seems low, but there have only been 27 T20 internationals between Australia and India since the first in 2007. India holds the advantage 15-10 (with one washout, and one abandoned before a ball was bowled).

Of the 10 times they've met in India in this format, the home side has won six of them.

Australia has only won a multi-game T20 series in India once, in February 2019 when Glenn Maxwell starred with 56 and 113no as they won 2-0.

Aussies back from the dead after Maxwell double ton

Last time they met

India won a three-game series 2-1 in September last year in a series best remembered for Cameron Green's breakout as a white-ball player. The tall Western Australian scored 61 from 30 and 52 from 21 as an opener in the first and third games of this series, which no doubt helped him land a sweet A$3.15m price at the IPL auction just a few weeks later.

Recent form

Australia underperformed in the T20 World Cup on home soil 12 months ago, and have only played one T20 series since with all the focus leading up to the just-concluded ODI World Cup. The T20s they did play went well – a 3-0 whitewash of the Proteas in South Africa in September.

Mitchell Marsh, who captained the side, was a beast with 186 runs across the three games, while Travis Head put on 115. Tim David and Matt Short both finished with strike rates north of 200.

Sean Abbott claimed eight wickets and had an economy rate of just 7.

But Australia are on a six-game winning streak in the T20 format, beating Sri Lanka, Ireland and Afghanistan in the group stage at last year's T20 World Cup before the South Africa series. You have to go back to 2019 to find a longer win-streak in the format for Australia.

Australia Test squad winners and losers: 22yo bolter emerges but spin duo, luckless quick snubbed

Australia has confirmed its Test squad for its upcoming tour of India.

Considering 18 players were named ahead of the four Tests, there were ample winners. But an array of stars can consider themselves unlucky after missing out on selection.

Foxsports.com.au analyses the big winners and losers after the Aussie Test squad for the February-March tour was revealed.

Todd Murphy

The big winner — and the big bolter. Well a bolter in the sense he’s only been on the domestic scene for a few years, yet many experts believed he loomed as a strong chance to earn a spot in the squad.

Murphy, 22, is one of four spinners that have been included in the squad, giving Australia ample selection flexibility for the matches on dry wickets that traditionally favour the slow bowlers.

The right-arm off-spinner only has seven first-class games to his name. But he’s impressed at domestic level over the past three summers and emerged as a genuine Test contender over recent months.

Murphy took 3-27 for the PM’s XI against the West Indies before claiming seven wickets in a Sheffield Shield clash against New South Wales. Four of those seven scalps came in the Blues’ second innings as an economical Murphy bowled Victoria to victory.

The fact he’s taken one wicket in all four BBL games he’s played for the Sydney Sixers this summer — all while conceding an average of just six runs per over — has only enhanced his cause.

News Corp reported on Tuesday night Murphy was now viewed by Australian selectors as the second-best spinner in Australia. But unleashing him for the first time against India’s batters in Indian conditions would be an almighty risk — hence former Aussie paceman Michael Kasprowicz’s warning to selectors about handing Murphy a debut next month.

But at least for Murphys sake, he’s clearly on the cusp of the big time.

“Todd Murphy has progressed quickly having impressed in domestic cricket and recently with Australia A,” chair of selectors George Bailey said. “With those performances Todd has emerged as a strong spin option.

“Selection in this squad also provides another opportunity to spend time alongside Nathan Lyon and assistant coach Daniel Vettori in India which will be invaluable to his development.”

Mitchell Swepson

The Queenslander surely would’ve felt some relief after being told he had a spot on the India-bound plane considering many thought he might’ve slipped out of favour among selectors.

After years of being on the fringes behind Nathan Lyon, Swepson was given a crack at Test level last year, playing two matches in Pakistan then two in Sri Lanka for a total of 10 wickets at 45.8.

But he’s struggled this Australian summer, claiming 12 wickets at 39.7 from five Shield games and four wickets at 51.3 from four Marsh Cup matches. He’s also barely fired a shot for the Heat in the BBL, taking just one wicket from eight games while conceding 9.1 runs per over.

But Swepson’s placed in the squad for the India series suggests selectors still believe that not only is he the best long-form leg-spinner in the country, he can also have an impact at international level.

Lance Morris

Not a shock winner by any stretch, but Morris’ selection would fill him with ample confidence.

The WA fast bowler has been part of the Australian set-up all summer, but primarily been seen externally as an option to replace one of the first-choice quicks should one of them be injured. And that almost came to fruition last week, with Morris mightily close to earning a debut for the third Test against South Africa at the SCG, only for selectors to choose two spinners and a specialist batter at No. 6.

But Morris is India-bound — and it’s an outright Test selection, rather than being an injury fill-in.

‘The Wild Thing’ has been the best bowler of the Sheffield Shield to date this summer, claiming 27 wickets at 18.4. The most impressive aspect about his performances has been his consistency, taking at least three wickets in six of his nine innings and at least one scalp in all nine innings.

Indian wickets tend not to carry the same juice for pace bowlers compared to Australian and England pitches. But Morris’ greatest asset at the moment is his sheer pace — and his ability to hit the 150km/hr mark could cause a few headaches for the Indian top order should he given an opportunity next month.

Peter Handscomb and Matt Renshaw

When Renshaw was re-called to the Aussie team and Handscomb to the extended squad as concussion sub for the third Test against the Proteas last week, it was a sign both players were in the frame for the India-bound squad.

Both players were regular members of the Australian Test team in 2016 and 2017, with the duo scoring hundreds against Pakistan to announce themselves on the international stage. Patchy form for both Handscomb and Renshaw followed, leading to their axings from the team.

But the pair have been among the most impressive in the Sheffield Shield so far this summer. Handscomb is the clear leading run-scorer, amassing 571 runs — including an unbeaten 281 against Western Australia in mid-October — at 81.57. The only other batter to register a Shield double ton so far this season has been Renshaw, who’s averaging 51.7 from his five matches.

Not only are Handscomb and Renshaw in form, they’re seen as solid players of spin, which will be crucial for the Aussies on the Indian wickets.

Whether Handscomb or Renshaw of them can immediately force their way into the starting XI following Australia’s impressive performances with the bat against the West Indies and South Africa remains questionable. But if either of them do, they’ll re-enter the Test arena in decent form.

Handscomb, too, will be the back-up wicketkeeper in case anything happens to Alex Carey. Although there is some doubt over his own fitness after he hurt his hip in a seemingly innocuous knock while batting in club cricket on Tuesday night.

“Peter Handscomb deserves his place back in the squad,” Bailey said. “His domestic form has been strong recently and Pete has proven he can perform at Test level.

“His experience against spin on the subcontinent is valuable and he is also an exceptionally good close-to-the-wicket catcher.”

Marcus Harris

From playing in last year’s home Ashes summer and being in the extended squad for all five home Tests this summer, to being left out of the touring party altogether.

Harris has been snubbed.

The left-handed opener travelled around with the Aussies throughout their two recent Test series before being released back to the BBL midway through the SCG Test.

Considering Usman Khawaja’s epic 2022 calendar year — and his brilliant start to 2023 — as well as David Warner’s recent return to form, Harris’ chances of opening the batting for Australia have diminished.

But perhaps Matt Renshaw’s new-found versatility has cost Harris somewhat. Renshaw has opened for Australia in the past, but selectors were prepared to play him at No. 6 for the recent Sydney Test — something they’d be less likely to do with Harris.

And the fact Handscomb can take the gloves for Australia if needed might’ve helped his case in earning selection over Harris.

Harris hit 73 against the West Indies for the PM’s XI in late November, but has barely played since after his stint with the Aussie Test squad. The 30-year-old already has 14 Tests to his name, but hasn’t scored a century and averages just 25.3.

Michael Neser

The Queenslander is proof of just how competitive it is to get a spot in the Aussie test team as a quick at the moment.

Neser couldn’t have been more impressive so far this summer, performing well at every level he’s played in every format. He’s taken 24 wickets at 14.5 in the Sheffield Shield, 11 wickets at 15.1 in the Marsh Cup and 10 wickets — including a hat-trick — at 18.1 in the BBL.

And when he was given a crack at Test level against the West Indies last month, he snared five wickets for the match in Adelaide.

Yet there’s no spot on the plane for the right-armer, with Scott Boland and Lance Morris the fringe fast bowlers picked ahead of him.

Adam Zampa and Matt Kuhnemann

Four spinners were picked to tour India — but not these two.

While Zampa has become Australia’s first-choice spinner in the white-ball formats, momentum around his red-ball potential had been building over recent months after he revealed to Fox Cricket his dream was still to play Test cricket. He was then picked for his first Shield game since 2019, taking three 3-57 against Victoria as he hoped to stake a claim for a Test call-up for the tour of India.

But selectors overlooked the leggie, even though he feels his game has evolved enough in the last few years. Mitch Swepson was the leg-spinner picked ahead of him.

Kuhnemann has been around the Australian set-up in recent times, which led to him playing four ODIs against Sri Lanka in June last year. And his first-class bowling average, economy rate and strike-rate are all better than Ashton Agar’s.

Yet Agar, who played against the Proteas at the SCG last week, got the nod ahead of the Queenslander.

Cameron Bancroft

The WA opener missed out on selection, despite continuing to push his case across all three formats this summer.

Bancroft has conjured 483 runs, including a competition-high three centuries, in the Sheffield Shield, as well as averaged 51.7 in the Marsh Cup and 62.0 in the Big Bash.

He was given a decent run in the Test side as an opener during 2017 and 2018 before the ball tampering saga before earning a re-call for two tests in the 2019 Ashes, which yielded four scores of 16 or less.

But Bancroft is building momentum this summer. Don’t be surprised to see him in the mix come the Ashes later this year.

Glenn Maxwell and Mitch Marsh

It’s almost as simple as saying if both all-rounders were fit and healthy now, they’d be on a plane to India in a couple of weeks.

Instead they’ll be watching from afar.

Maxwell revealed on Fox Cricket on Tuesday night he’d been targeting the tour of India — where he scored his maiden Test century in 2017 — as his best opportunity to return to Australia’s red-ball line-up. Instead, he still has no firm return date from the horror broken leg injury he suffered in November last year.

Marsh, who’s played 32 Tests, remains sidelined after undergoing surgery late last year on a long-standing ankle injury.

Spinner Todd Murphy named as bolter in Australian squad for tour of India

Uncapped spinner Todd Murphy has bolted into Australia’s Test squad for the tour of India, as selectors confirmed an 18-player squad for the four-Test Border-Gavaskar series.

He joins Ashton Agar and Mitchell Swepson as options to partner frontline spinner Nathan Lyon on a tour that is expected to feature low, slow, turning wickets.

Swepson has been retained after struggling on Australia’s tour of Pakistan last year — kept in favour of what would be a shock call up for white-ball specialist Adam Zampa.

Victorian Sheffield Shield captain Peter Handscomb has also joined the touring party alongside Matthew Renshaw, despite retiring hurt after a hit to the hip playing for St Kilda in a grade fixture on Tuesday night.

Murphy had only played one first-class fixture prior to 2022, but has rocketed into contention after strong performances for Victoria, Australia A and the Prime Minister’s XI.

At 22, he is viewed as a potential long-term successor to the ageing Nathan Lyon, who to date has not found a sustainable second spinner to partner him.

Murphy currently has 14 wickets to his name at an average of 17.71 over just three Sheffield Shield matches, and bowled Victoria to a final-day win over New South Wales in the last match before the Big Bash.

“Todd has emerged as a strong spin option, having impressed in domestic cricket and recently with Australia A”, said chief selector George Bailey.

“Selection in this squad also provides another opportunity to spend time alongside Nathan Lyon and assistant coach Daniel Vettori in India which will be invaluable to his development.”

Opener Marcus Harris, released from the Test squad after the recall of Matthew Renshaw for the New Year’s Test, has been omitted, while uncapped WA quick Lance Morris retains his place in the squad.

The tour is shaping as a potential debut opportunity for Morris, with Mitchell Starc confirmed to not be joining the squad until after the first Test in Nagpur with an injured finger.

Allrounder Cameron Green is also racing the clock to be fit with a fractured finger sustained in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa.

As foreshadowed by captain Pat Cummins in Sydney, left arm spinner Ashton Agar has been included despite going wicketless in the final Test against South Africa .

Queensland bowler Michael Neser has also been snubbed in favour of Victorian Scott Boland, while West Australian wicketkeeper Josh Inglis misses out as well.

In the event of injury to wicketkeeper Alex Carey, Peter Handscomb will likely take the gloves.

Australia and India will play four Tests in less than two months in Nagpur, Delhi, Dharamsala and Ahmedabad.

Australia has not won in India since their famous 2004 series victory under Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting.

AUSTRALIAN SQUAD FOR BORDER-GAVASKAR SERIES IN INDIA

Pat Cummins (captain), Ashton Agar, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Peter Handscomb, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Lance Morris, Todd Murphy, Matt Renshaw, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Mitch Swepson, David Warner

AUSTRALIAN TOUR OF INDIA DATES (All starting 3pm AEDT)

First Test: Nagpur, February 9 to 13

Second Test: Delhi, February 17 to 21

Third Test: Dharamsala, March 1 to 5

Fourth Test: Ahmedabad, March 9 to 13

The apple clearly doesn’t fall too far from the tree after the son of one of England’s greatest cricketers had a stunning debut for his country.

England has failed to defend its T20 World Cup crown, with India cruising to a dominant 68-run victory over the reigning champions.

England has fallen apart in its World Cup semi-final against India with one “calamitous” moment saying it all.

Ajinkya Rahane exclusive interview: India batter shares anecdote from historic 2020-21 Australia tour and more

Ajinkya Rahane exclusive interview: India batter shares anecdote from historic 2020-21 Australia tour and more

India had a dreadful start to the tour of Australia in 2020. At Adelaide, India were bowled out for a paltry 36 runs, the team’s lowest Test score, in the second innings to hand the hosts a 90 run target which they chased down with eight wickets to spare.

With India bowled out for 36, none of the batters reached double digits and Mayank Agarwal was the top-scorer with nine runs.

Ajinkya Rahane was part of the dressing room on that forgettable day for the Indian cricket team. He would later take on the leadership duties from Virat Kohli as he departed for paternity duties.

. @ajinkyarahane88 exclusive on #FirstSports In a candid conversation with @RuphaRamani , the India cricketer reflects on the historic Gabba triumph and gives his thoughts on the current Indian setup. Catch the exclusive interview on Firstpost tonight at 7 PM. pic.twitter.com/F6lAcltQpA — Firstpost Sports (@FirstpostSports) June 27, 2024

“It was really bad, really sad. We all were shattered. The funniest, not the funniest incident, I wanted to eat an ice cream after that Test match. And I told our physio, let’s go out tonight and we’ll go out and eat an ice cream. I called Rohit, I said, Rohit, let’s go and eat ice cream,” revealed Rahane in an exclusive conversation with Rupha Ramani on First Sport .

“So we were walking and we walked for like 40 minutes. And Rohit was really angry on our physio and said, Nitin was our physio and said, ‘what’s happening?’ He said, ’no, no, it’s coming, it’s coming’. And once we reached, that shop was closed. And then I told Nitin that now ‘we’ll eat an ice cream once we win the series’. That’s what I told him that night and we eventually we had ice cream in Brisbane,” added Rahane.

Eventually India turned things around and won the series 2-1 with Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara and R Ashwin playing key roles in the turnaround.

The 36-year-old shed light on his approach to captaincy that tour of Australia, the current Indian cricket team, Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and the players of the future while mentioning Shubman Gill - who will lead India on the tour of Zimbabwe.

Australia vs India, T20 World Cup 2024: Players To Watch Out For

Jasprit bumrah and pat cummins will play x-factor for their respective sides in this exciting contest.

australia tour of india indian squad

Australia will lock horns with India in the Super Eights Match 11 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, 2024. The game is set to take place at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia on Monday. Former champions, India comes into this match with momentum, having defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs in their previous outing. Kuldeep Yadav was the standout performer for India, amassing 105 fantasy points. On the other hand, Australia faced a 21-run defeat at the hands of Afghanistan in their last game. Glenn Maxwell was the top fantasy performer for the Aussies, scoring 95 points.

Head-to-Head

Historically, India have dominated the head-to-head battle with Australia in the T20 format. The Men in Blue have won 19 matches while losing 11 games to Australia. The pattern suggests India will likely continue their dominance. The Indian batters have generally outperformed the Aussie bowlers, while the Australian batters have been their main contributors.

The last meeting between these teams was in the fifth T20I of Australia's tour of India, in 2023, where Shreyas Iyer and Ben McDermott scored the highest fantasy points for their respective countries.

Key Players to Watch

Pat Cummins (AUS)

Star Australian pacer, Pat Cummins, has been in a stellar form with the ball in the tournament. The right-arm pacer has picked up nine wickets in four matches at an economy rate of 6.40, which also includes consecutive hat-tricks against Bangladesh and Afghanistan, respectively.

Virat Kohli (IND)

Former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, has had a topsy-turvy campaign with the bat in this tournament. The right-handed batter has scored 66 runs in the recent five matches.

Marcus Stoinis (AUS)

Australia's star all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis, has been enjoying decent form in the ongoing T20 World Cup. The right-handed batter has smashed 167 runs in the recent six matches while the all-rounder has also taken eight wickets with the ball.

Axar Patel (IND)

Bowling all-rounder, Axar Patel, has been a consistent contributor for the Men in Blue. Axar has scored 35 runs in three innings while he has also taken four wickets with the ball.

Travis Head (AUS)

Australia's top-order batter, Travis Head, has been in red-hot form with the bat in this tournament. The explosive left-handed batter has smashed 179 runs in the recent six matches at an impressive strike rate of 151.69.

Hardik Pandya (IND)

Star Indian all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, has been having a dream run in the ongoing T20 World Cup for India. Hardik has scored 89 runs in three innings at an impressive strike rate of 141.26 while also picking eight wickets with the ball.

Indian cricket team’s schedule 2024: From hosting New Zealand to a five-match Test series at Australia

India travel to Australia in November to play five Test matches, the first time since 1992, as part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The Indian men’s cricket team will kick off its bilateral assignments after the T20 World Cup 2024 with a five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe starting July 6.

India will also travel to Sri Lanka for a white-ball series (three ODIs and T20Is) in the second half of July, the dates of which are yet to be finalised.

After a much-needed break in August, the focus will move to red-ball cricket in September. India host neighbours Bangladesh for a two-match Test series, which is part of the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. The Men in Blue will also play three T20Is against Bangladesh in early October.

New Zealand will play three Test matches against India at Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai starting October 16 and will continue till November 5.

India will then travel to South Africa for a quick four-match T20I series starting on November 8 at Durban and ending at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on November 16.

From the rainbow nation, India will travel to Australia for a blockbuster five-Test match series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It is the first time since 1992 that an India vs Australia Test series will feature five matches.

The first IND vs AUS Test is scheduled to start on November 22 at Perth with the customary Boxing Day Test charted for December 26 at Melbourne. The series will conclude in Sydney with the fifth Test starting on January 3, 2025.

India started 2024 with an overseas Test win over South Africa at Cape Town to draw the series 1-1. That was followed by a five-match Test series at home against England. India won the series emphatically by a 4-1 margin.

India currently stand on top of the WTC 2023-2025 cycle winning six out of nine matches.

Yashasvi Jaiswal , who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League, is the top run-getter in this WTC cycle with over 1000 runs from nine matches at an average of 68.53. Meanwhile, the Royals’ spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is the top Indian bowler, fifth overall, in the bowling charts with 42 wickets from eight matches and averaging 21.69.

Here is a look at the detailed schedule of the Indian men’s cricket team in 2024.

Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Nitish Reddy in India's T20I squad for Zimbabwe tour

Shubman Gill has been named captain of India's T20I squad for the five-match series in Zimbabwe that begins on July 6. Abhishek Sharma , Nitish Kumar Reddy , Riyan Parag and Tushar Deshpande all received their maiden India call-ups after impressive performances in IPL 2024.

Dhruv Jurel has also been picked as the second wicketkeeper, his first call-up to the T20I squad after making his Test debut earlier this year against England.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson are the only two players from India's T20 World Cup squad who are also travelling to Zimbabwe; all of the other World Cup players have been given a break after the tournament ends on June 29.

Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed, the other travelling reserves in India's T20 World Cup squad along with Gill, are also in the squad for Zimbabwe. The team is likely to leave for Zimbabwe on July 1 and will be coached by VVS Laxman in the interim, with Rahul Dravid's tenure ending with the T20 World Cup.

The squad does not include Tilak Varma , who has played 16 T20 internationals since his debut in August last year. ESPNcricinfo learned Tilak had injured two fingers on his left hand ahead of Mumbai Indians' final league game of IPL 2024 and is undergoing rehab at NCA in Bangalore. He was part of India's most recent bilateral series, against Afghanistan this January, and also had a successful IPL season for Mumbai - 416 runs at a strike rate of 149.64.

Abhishek's inclusion comes on the back of a successful IPL 2024 for Sunrisers Hyderabad: 484 runs at a strike rate of 204.21 and 42 sixes, the most in the season. He had also played a pivotal role in Punjab's run to their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali title in November, with 485 runs at a strike rate of 192.46 as an opener.

"It feels great to get this opportunity," Abhishek said in a statement. "Finally my hard work has paid off. I will give my best and perform well for India."

Playing in his sixth IPL season, Parag had a breakout year for Rajasthan Royals, scoring almost as many runs in IPL 2024 as he had in five previous seasons. Offered a chance to bat at No. 4, Parag scored 40 or more in seven out of 14 innings; only Virat Kohli had 40-plus more scores (nine) this season. Parag's 573 runs in 16 innings made him third on the leaderboard for most runs, behind Kohli (741) and Gaikwad (583).

Reddy, a 21-year old seam-bowling allrounder, is believed to have impressed the selectors with his temperament in the Sunrisers top order. He made 303 runs in IPL 2024 at a strike rate of 142.92, while also delivering 13.1 overs for three wickets. Reddy, like Abhishek and Parag, was a part of the BCCI's target group of young players who have been under the NCA's watch over the past year.

Deshpande was the top wicket-taker for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024, with 17 wickets and an economy rate of 8.83.

India play five T20Is against Zimbabwe in Harare on July 6, 7, 10, 13 and 14.

Ꮪhubman Gill (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, Tushar Deshpande.

T20 World Cup: Australia in danger of crashing out after 'disappointing' loss to India in Super Eights clash

Sport T20 World Cup: Australia in danger of crashing out after 'disappointing' loss to India in Super Eights clash

Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh after the loss to India

Australia's Twenty20 World Cup hopes are hanging by a thread after falling victim to an all-out assault from Rohit Sharma and being beaten by 24 runs by India.

After Rohit's 92 from 41 balls helped India post 5-205 in St Lucia, Travis Head's 76 kept Australia in the game before they finished 7-181 in reply.

The result means their World Cup will be over if Afghanistan beat Bangladesh later on Tuesday (AEDT), following defeats in Australia's last two games.

A Bangladesh win would likely see Australia progress to face South Africa in the semi-finals, unless the Tigers are able to win by a significant margin and leapfrog Mitch Marsh's men on net run-rate.

Australia were always on the back foot at Daren Sammy Stadium on Tuesday.

Rohit Sharma plays a shot on the leg side

Rohit took charge when he helped crunch 29 runs from the third over of the game off Mitchell Starc, after the left-armer was recalled in place of spinner Ashton Agar.

Starc (2-45) wasn't alone in copping punishment, with Pat Cummins (0-48), Adam Zampa (0-41) and Marcus Stoinis (2-56) all going at more than 10 an over.

In a brutal display of hitting Rohit smashed eight sixes and seven fours, clearing the boundary over cover and mid-wicket with a mixture of brilliant timing and sheer power.

Rohit's 19-ball 50 marked the fastest ever against Australia, with his dominance clear in the fact India's team score was 1-52 when he passed the milestone.

Only Josh Hazlewood was able to slow India down, appearing as if he was bowling on a different pitch with his 1-14 after removing Virat Kohli for a duck early.

Starc also did well to rebound late, bowling Robit with a yorker that hit both bat and pad on the way through.

Travis Head plays a shot

But by then, the damage was done.

Australia lost an edging David Warner in the first over of the chase for six, in what will be the veteran opener's last international match if his team do not progress.

Mitch Marsh offered hope of a captain's knock with 37 from 28 balls, but the match swung when he was superbly caught by a jumping Axar Patel on the boundary.

Glenn Maxwell also threatened to provide Head the support he needed when he struck 15 off his first four balls, switch-hitting spinner Ravindra Jadeja.

But when he walked down the pitch at a Kuldeep Yadav (2-24) googly on 20 and was bowled, Australia's fightback took another hit.

And while Head threatened to repeat his ODI World Cup final heroics against India from last year with powerful drives and pull shots, he was eventually caught trying to take on Jasprit Bumrah.

After the equation was at one stage 82 from eight, Australia lost 5-54 from that point on as none of their middle order below No.4 Maxwell fired.

The result means the undefeated India qualify for the semi-finals and will face England, while Australia's hopes of being world champions in all formats are in grave danger.

Rohit Sharma on 'satisfying' win over Australia

Rohit Sharma feeling good after exacting some revenge on Australia for last year's World Cup final.

"It is quite satisfying especially when you play like that," he says.

"We know the opposition and the threat that they bring with them as well, but I thought overall as a team we played well.

"We kept doing the things that we are supposed to do and that we know best and we can take a lot of confidence from a game like that."

On Kuldeep Yadav's match-winning performance with the ball.

"We understand the strength he has and we've got to use it when it's necessary," Sharma says.

"We know that he had a big role to play when we moved forward in the tournament and he's come forward and done the job for us."

Sharma says India doesn't want to change its approach for the semis, where they will face England.

"We don't want to do anything different, we want to play the same way we've been playing," he says.

"Not try and think too much about what's lying ahead of us and what opposition.

"It's important we play our cricket and we play it well."

Marsh on 'disappointing' loss to India

Australian captain Mitch Marsh speaks on what he called a "disappointing" loss for his side.

"We're still technically a chance to go through to the semis but today India got the better of us," he says.

"I thought it was a good game of cricket, but unfortunately we're on the bad side of it.

"Over the course of 40 overs there's a lot of small margins that you could think this or think that, ultimately India was the better team and Rohit Sharma got them off to an absolute flyer.

"We've seen for 15 years when he's in that mode he is very hard to stop, so you've got to give some credit to him."

Marsh says Australia backed themselves to chase down the score when Glenn Maxwell and Travis Head were together in the middle.

"It was more belief when thinking about who we had left in the change rooms," he says.

"In a run chase like that chasing 200 if you can keep (the required run rate) at 10 for as long as possible you're a chance, but India had some class bowlers at the end that were too good for us."

Rohit Sharma named Player of the Match

No surprises here as Indian captain Rohit Sharma is named the Player of the Match for his brilliant 92 off 41 deliveries.

Rohit set the tone for India right from the outset and helped exorcise any demons that may have been lingering from last year's World Cup final.

"That's what I have to do at the top of the order, try and see what the bowlers are trying to do and play accordingly," he says.

"Right from over number one there was a strong breeze blowing across, but they changed their plan trying to bowl against the breeze, so I had to open up the other side of the field as well.

"We need to be smart when we play, and that is something I backed myself to do."

He is asked about missing out on the century, but doesn't seem too fussed.

Australia's World Cup hopes in Afghanistan's hands after loss

India wins by 24 runs, which means Australia will now hope Afghanistan loses later today against Bangladesh.

If the Afghans lose, Australia will qualify for the semi-finals, albeit unconvincingly.

If Afghanistan wins, then this will be Australia's last match in the tournament.

India goes 3-0 in the Super Eights to book a semi-final date against England, a rematch of the semi-final from the 2022 T20 World Cup.

They were tested at different stages today, but were by far the better team in this one.

20th over - India wraps up crucial win

DROPPED! A rare drop from Ravindra Jadeja! Cummins swings one into the leg side, but it dies on Jadeja at the last moment and he spills it.

Hardik Pandya, after being smashed all afternoon, finishes off by giving up just four runs in the final over.

19th over - Aussies reach key score

SIX! Slower one from Bumrah and Cummins times it perfectly as he swings it over the leg side for a maximum. The wind carrying that miles over the rope.

10 runs off that over.

This match might be done, but Australia has passed the score of 176 which was required to keep its net run rate above Afghanistan.

Afghanistan will now need to beat Bangladesh later today to advance to the semis.

Hardik to bowl the final over. Australia needs 29.

18th over - Australia needing a miracle after David wicket

FOUR! Pure power from Tim David as he finally gets a hold of one. Crashes it straight back Arshdeep for a straight boundary.

SIX! A full toss from Arshdeep, and this one looks like a mishit from David but it comfortably clears Virat Kohli at long off.

A bit of a mixed bag of an over for India there. 14 off the over but they get the big wicket of David.

Australia needs 39 off the last two overs. Bumrah will bowl one of them, it'll be interesting to see who bowls the other.

Bumrah to bowl the next. That leaves one of Hardik or Axar to take the final over.

WICKET! David perishes after big over

Two boundaries in the over, but Tim David falls trying to hit another full toss.

This one is again in the slot to go, but David is through it too early and Bumrah takes a good catch at short third man.

Mitchell Starc the new man in.

WICKET! Kuldeep's brilliant take removes Wade

This is the difference between the two sides! We saw Australia have another poor outing in the field, but India has been brilliant.

Matthew Wade looks to guide this past short third man, but Kuldeep dives forward and takes an excellent catch.

It's sent upstairs by the umpires, but replays show Kuldeep took it cleanly with his fingers underneath the ball.

Australia falls further into the abyss. Arshdeep has his second wicket and Pat Cummins comes to the crease.

17th over - Bumrah swings the match India's way

Just five runs off the over and the big wicket of Travis Head.

That's exactly why Rohit threw the ball to Jasprit Bumrah.

Australia needs 53 runs off the last 18 deliveries.

It's going to take something very, very special from here.

Arshdeep to bowl his final over.

WICKET! Head gone in massive blow for Australia

Jasprit Bumrah has done it for India!

A brilliant slower ball does Travis Head all ends up, and the Aussie opener can only spoon it straight up and Rohit Sharma takes the catch.

Massive blow for the Aussies there. Matthew Wade the new man in.

16th over - Excellent over from Arshdeep continues India's momentum

FOUR BYES! A swing and a miss on an attempted yorker and it squirts past Rishabh Pant. Unlucky for Arshdeep, that was not far from the stumps.

That ruined what was another brilliant over from India.

A great return to the attack for Arshdeep, who is getting some reverse swing and nailed his yorkers there.

This match is on Travis Head's bat, it's as simple as that.

Big over coming up here, as Bumrah comes back into the attack.

Australia needs 58 off 24 deliveries.

15th over - Axar continues India's momentum

FOUR! A shorter one from Axar and Head gets on the back foot and crashes that one through the covers. It's like he's batting on a different pitch.

An excellent over despite that boundary, with Axar's over going for just six runs.

Australia needs to get a move-on now. Head needs some help.

Arshdeep back into the attack.

WICKET! Reverse sweep undoes Stoinis

Marcus Stoinis perishes after a reverse sweep!

He hits it straight to Hardik Pandya at backward point and Pandya juggles it a few times before grabbing it nochalantly.

Tim David strides to the wicket. Momentum swinging India's way now. The spinners have halted the Aussies.

14th over - Kuldeep ends excellent spell in style

FOUR! Head continues on his merry way, dragging this one from wide outside off over midwicket for a much-needed boundary for the Aussies.

Another excellent over from Kuldeep, who ends his four-over spell with figures of 2-24 off four overs.

Axar Patel to continue. Australia needs 11.83 an over off the last six.

WICKET! Kuldeep removes Maxwell with googly

Kuldeep Yadav gets the big fish!

Glenn Maxwell walks down the track and looks to heave him through the leg side, but a brilliant googly sneaks through and crashes into the stumps.

Maxwell's stay ends with 19 off 12 deliveries.

Marcus Stoinis comes to the wicket. Can he get going straight away? He's had a good tournament.

13th over - Axar wrestles momentum back for India

A brilliant, brilliant over from Axar Patel.

Just three runs off it for Australia, and the run rate goes up a little bit.

You'll still back the Aussies, given the two men at the crease and the wickets in the shed.

Kuldeep to finish his spell here. Can he get a wicket for India?

12th over - Head continues to torment India

SIX! Travis Head slams Kuldeep over long off for another maximum.

That ruins what was an otherwise excellent over for India.

Their nemesis from last year's World Cup final taking the game away again.

Australia needs 81 off the last eight overs. Axar Patel into the attack.

11th over - Maxwell's switch-hitting undoes Jadeja

FOUR! Another misfield from India as Maxwell guides this one through the two men inside the circle.

SIX! A switch-hit! Maxwell eyeing those two men inside the circle on the off side behind point and he hits this one over the fence.

FOUR! Another switch-hit from Maxwell, this time it's a one bounce boundary. India needs to change this field up. This is too easy for Maxwell at the moment.

17 runs off Jadeja's first over. Australia looking the goods right now. They need 91 off 55 balls with eight wickets in hand.

Kuldeep continues from the other end.
