Santa's Grotto experiences in Berkshire that still have availability

It's the most wonderful time of the year, which means that Santa's Grottos across Berkshire are opening their doors to children

With Christmas fast approaching, most of the Santa's Grotto experiences in Berkshire are all fully booked, but some still have a few tickets remaining.

Year on year, companies, cafes, and play centres get more inventive with their Christmas experiences, whether that's having breakfast with Santa, meeting him on a steam train , or going for a ride around the Kennet & Avon Canal with him.

Whilst all Christmas activities came to a halt last year because of lockdown , this year has seen a boom in the number of places wishing to spread festive cheer and welcome visitors in for Christmas-themed events.

Legoland Windsor Resort

Location: Winkfield Road, Windsor , SL4 4AY

Dates: December 4, 5, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 ,23

Price: £32 per person

When you buy a ticket you secure yourself entry to the theme park which has 25 rides as well as live shows and the opportunity to meet Father Christmas.

Daniel's Grotto

Location: Daniel Department Store, Peascod Street, Windsor, SL4 1DP

Dates: The Grotto is open on December 5, 6, 12 ,13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 ,23 ,24. Customers will have to get in touch to confirm availability. The grotto is open to visitors, Monday to Saturday 10:30 am to 4:30 pm and Sundays 12 pm to 4:30 pm.

Price: £7 per child

When children arrive at Daniel's Department Store in Windsor, Santa will greet them with a present on the first floor of the building.

Steam into Christmas

Location: Didcot Railway Centre, Station Road, Didcot OX11 7NJ

Dates: December 4, 5, 11, 21, 22, 23

Price: Prices range from £19.35 to £21.50. Children under 1 go free.

Santa will have a gift for every child at this Christmas experience and there will be seasonal refreshments and festive tails of the railways at Christmas time.

Brunch with Santa

Location: The Belvedere Arms, Sunninghill, Ascot SL5 7SB

Dates: According to the website, all dates are available.

Price: £15 per adult and £8 per child

The adult meal includes a hot drink, breakfast juice, and a brunch dish and the children's menu includes a breakfast juice and a brunch dish.

Little ones can expect to receive a present from Santa.

Santa Trips

Location: The Kennet and Avon Canal, Hungerford RG17 0EQ

Dates: December 11, 18, 19 and 23.

This festive experience involves taking a cruise around the Kennet and Avon Canal where Father Christmas will be chatting to parents and kids, who can expect to receive refreshments and a Christmas gift.

The Jelly Lounge Windsor

Location: 29 William Street, Windsor SL4 1BB

Dates: December 21, 22, 23, 24

The Jelly Lounge in Windsor is a soft play centre that is running a Breakfast with Father Christmas event that will grant children the chance to get involved with some soft play before meeting the man himself.

Santa's Grotto & Elves Workshop

Location: Little Gym, Windsor

Dates: Dates are limited. Call 01753 968 488 or email [email protected] for more information & to book.

Price: Undisclosed

Children will get involved with various games and gymnastics before heading into the Elves Workshop for some toy-making treats and a visit from Santa.

Visit Father Christmas in Maidenhead

Father Christmas will be sneaking away from his important work at the North Pole and joining us for a fun-filled breakfast at Stubbings Café . Santa will walk between tables meeting the children and hand out a festive gift to ticket holders aged 2 to 12 years old. Visit Father Christmas Further Afield

Jake's Play Barn , Sandhurst has a fab Christmas Event - come and visit the team of elves, reindeer, and of course the main man, Santa, in our magical grotto experience. Play in the soft play, take a ride around the lake with the reindeer (Gold package only) visit Santa in his grotto, receive a gift, help the elves make a biscuit in the gingerbread factory and finish off your trip out on the farm. This is a truly magical experience for the whole family. More info here .

Every year Santa visits the farm at Miller's Ark , and this year he is coming back for 4 special days, so no small people miss him at the farm! Booking your child's Grotto visit is essential, as deliveries of presents from the North Pole are limited and the child’s age and gender will play a part in selecting the best present. Please note presents are only available for 10 year olds and under.

The Lapland UK Experience  – 12th November – 24th December

Beale Wildlife Park

Where to visit Santa in Berkshire 2024

22 november - 24 december.

Christmas is a magical time for kids and meeting Father Christmas is a highlight of the year for little ones.  There are lots of Christmas experiences, Santa’s Grotto and special events on all around Berkshire.  Prices and activities vary greatly so we’ve rounded up a good selection of what’s on and where to visit Santa in Berkshire in 2024.  For more great ideas, check out our guides for Surrey ,  Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire too.

Where to Visit Santa in Berkshire 2024

Ascot Racecourse – meet Father Christmas on the Saturday of the Howden Christmas Racing weekend (21strd December) there will be lots of other festive family entertainment too and kids go free.

Lapland – for an all out extravagant experience try Lapland UK near Ascot, bookings opened on 20th March and they are sold out for 2023

South Hill Park Pre-School – the preschool are having a Christmas Fair on Saturday 25th November from 11am to 1pm – all welcome

Father Christmas in Bracknell hasn’t been able to find a suitable venue this year and will return in 2024 .

Bucklebury Farm – Father Christmas will be returning this year to his grotto at Bucklebury Farm. Includes a visit 5 minute private grotto with Father Christmas, a present, plus Festive activities!

This year the animal barn at  Chobham Adventure Farm   will be magically transformed into The Reindeer Lodge, where all of Santa’s real reindeer will be staying while they get ready for the big day!  This is included in standard admission with option add on extras to meet Father Christmas and go ice skating.

Pinewood miniature railway 2023 Santa Specials are provisionally set for 3rd and 10th December but will be confirmed later in the year.

Pinewood Bar & Cafe have breakfast with Santa running 21st to 24th Dec 2023

Dobbies Garden Centre -have breakfast with Santa or just visit in his grotto.  They also have quiet grotto slots for children with additional needs.

Stubbings Nursery – Father Christmas will be sneaking away from his important work at the North Pole for a fun-filled  breakfast with Santa at Stubbings Café.

Newbury Christmas Lights Switch On Festival – Santa will be at his Grotto in The Kennet Centre between 12pm and 5pm, he will be handing out sweets to all the children who come to see him

K&A Trust Newbury Boat Trips – Cruise to ‘Greenham Land’ to find Santa! Children enjoy a Christmas story, singing, and plenty of time with Santa during the boat trip which lasts approximately 1 hour.

4 Kingdoms Adventure Park – one of the largest indoor interactive Christmas experiences in the UK.  The Multi award winning Christmas Experience is in its 11th Year

Parkway Shopping – tbc for 2023

Reading Winter Wonderland – Santa’s grotto will be at Reading’s Winter Wonderland as well as lots of other entertainment.

Summer Barn – Last year they had a magical Christmas Family event on the farm with  festive activities in a warm fairylight barn by the cosy fire.  Details for 2022 not yet announced.

Step into the enchanting wonderland this winter at  Beale Wildlife Park.

Jakes Play Barn – Join the whole gang for a Magical Christmas Grotto Experience.

The Little Gym Windsor – Santa and his cheeky Elves will host a magical on 17th & 18th December 2023

Legoland – Meet the man himself, Father Christmas, in his log cabin – a perfect family moment where children will receive a special LEGO gift.  This is an optional extra add on when visiting the theme park.

Daniel’s of Windsor – Each year the first floor of Daniel of Windsor is transformed into a Winter Wonderland when Santa’s Grotto. Running on selected dates in 2023 with details on their facebook page

Santa’s grotto will appear at the Wokingham Winter Carnival on 26th November along with lots of free family entertainment

Wokingham winter carnival.

2023 sees the return of our Wokingham Winter Carnival on Sunday 26 November!

With over 125 stalls, funfair rides, food and entertainment there will be lots to do and see.

Wokingham Winter Carnival is a FUN day out for the whole family. The town is closed to traffic for the day so children can join in the fun in a totally safe environment.

There’s a whole host of street entertainers, music, singing, dancing and the fun of the fair with loads of different rides, whether you’re young or old.

Santa will be in his grotto and for lunch there are stalls offering an amazing choice of food and drink.

Windsor on Ice

One of the best Christmas events in Berkshire for families is ice-skating in Windsor. Just minutes from the royal castle, this is surely one of the best venues for a festive ice-rink? As well as skating, you can enjoy the funfair from 3pm or spot Father Christmas at the weekends.

Tiny Tuesdays are sessions dedicated to toddlers and younger children who wish to skate.

Christmas at Basildon House, Reading: Wind in the Willows

As well as racing, there’s an abundance of seasonal fun with a range of festive entertainment. 

Off the track, there’s an abundance of seasonal fun for all with a range of festive entertainment set to delight racegoers of all ages. The traditional fairground rides and candle-lit carol singing with the Ascot Brass Band remain firmly part of the entertainment, and Father Christmas and his reindeer will be in attendance. 

Santa's Grotto in Daniel's, Windsor

Festival of Light, Newbury

Newbury Methodist Church, Northbrook Street, Newbury

Soak up the atmosphere and watch the hundreds of twinkling lanterns as the procession travels through Newbury town centre in our popular, annual Festival of Light. The procession will travel along Northbrook Street before arriving in the Market Place with live music and a festive atmosphere.

The candle-lit procession starts at 4.30pm.

Lapland UK, Ascot

One of the most spectacular Christmas events in Berkshire is at Lapland UK.

Firstly, this Christmas-themed interactive experience will take you to the Enchanted Forest, Santa’s toy factory, Mother Christmas’ kitchen and the Elven Village.  Here, kids will love building toys, ice-skating and meeting huskies, before a private audience with Father Christmas himself.

Christmas Trail at Eton

Find the Eton teddy bears hidden in the town’s shop windows and you could win a prize!

Theatre and arts centres in Windsor and Maidenhead

Windsor's historic Theatre Royal nestles at the foot of Windsor Castle and offers its audiences a new production every fortnight before heading to the West End or on national tour.  You’ll also discover comedy nights, tribute bands and one of the best pantomimes in the local area.  (Oh yes it is!)

We have two dynamic arts centres in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead: Norden Farm Centre for the Arts in Maidenhead and the Old Court in Windsor.

Enjoy live performances, comedy, music, film, exhibitions, classes and family activities all year round.

Windsor and the Royal Borough is filled with fun events and things to do for families with children of all ages!  Whether you are looking for ideas and inspiration for a day trip, a weekend away or a family short break, we’ve got plenty to keep you occupied throughout the different seasons and especially in the school holidays, half term breaks and bank holidays!  Check out our family-friendly events .

Horse events in Windsor and Ascot

Equestrian events are hugely popular in the Royal Borough.  The Royal Windsor Horse Show takes place in May and the daily royal procession is the highlight of Royal Ascot week in June.

Why not enjoy a flutter on the horses at Ascot Racecourse , where jumps and flat racing take place throughout the year?

Royal Windsor Racecourse is located on an island in the River Thames and holds evening and daytime flat race meetings with themed race-day entertainment between April and October and winter jumps racing returns in 2024.

Windsor, Eton and Maidenhead town centre events

Windsor, Eton and Maidenhead have a fun and wide range of town centre events throughout the year, many of them free of charge.

Watch hilarious pancake racing in the town centre on Shrove Tuesday, rubber duck racing on the Thames in June, delicious local food and drink markets, craft markets, night markets and pumpkin carving parties in October.

But Christmas is a very special time and all the family will enjoy our Christmas events – superb Christmas lights, colourful fireworks, Christmas markets, Windsor Great Park Illuminated, LaplandUK, wonderfully creative living advent calendars throughout December and, of course, traditional carols.  What better place to enjoy the yuletide season?

Festivals in Windsor

The annual Windsor Festival takes place in September and the Spring Festival takes place in March.

The festival’s ‘what's on in Windsor’ programme features literary events, concerts, talks, guided walks and much, much more.  Some events take place in historic venues like Windsor Castle and Windsor Guildhall.

Windsor has a Fringe Festival too and an International String Competition every two years – plenty for those with an interest in cultural events.

Discover drink festivals too!  Ascot Racecourse hosts a Beer Festival as part of its Autumn Racing Weekend.

Art events in the Windsor area

Did you know that the annual Windsor Art Fair in November has raised thousands of pounds for the Prince’s Trust whilst bringing together over 160 artists, printmakers, photographers, sculptors, ceramicists and selected galleries offering the very best in contemporary art with prices from £50 to £5000?

Windsor sporting events

Whether you enjoy taking part or spectating, there are some great sporting events taking place in the local area.

The Royal Borough is home to the award-winning Parallel Windsor event, the UK's national celebration of disability inclusion and wellbeing.  Parallel features a range of challenge events for all ages, health conditions and abilities.  Walk, push or run, there are no cut off times, highlighted by the event's logan of 'Start Together, Finish Whenever'.

The Royal Windsor Triathlon attracts many participants in the summer and there are half marathons and 10K races throughout the Royal Borough too.

Dorney Lake – Eton College’s rowing lake where Olympic dreams were made real in London 2012 – hosts many events throughout the year.
