Power is everything when traveling, and a lot of times our chargers can take up tons of space. The inCharge is the size of a small keychain and has six different charging input and output combinations to provide power to your phone, headphones, e-reader, smartwatch , and more. For quick reference, the inCharge has these specific ports: an input USB-C, an output USB-C, a USB-A, and an output lightning plus micro USB.

Never under estimate old-school instruments. This portable gadget comes with a compass and a thermometer to always let you know about your environment. It's super portable (barely 3 inches by 2 inches) and will tie on any bag for easy access. Oh, and it's also made with recycled materials.

There are a zillion travel adapters out there. Our favorite is this three-in-one device that operates as a an outlet adapter, USB-C adapter, and a surge protector.

A carabiner with a locking function is a great gadget for keeping your items together—and for helping decrease the chances of theft. This pack of five here is our go-to for locking carabiners. Keep one or two on your backpack or travel duffel at all times.

News flash: it's always summer in some part of the world. This portable AC fan is a lifesaver when traveling to warm climates. Throw this baby around your neck and enjoy three different gears of air flow directly to your head and neck.

Door locks aren't a necessary gadget when traveling, but they do pose value in giving travelers peace of mind. This compact one here is easy to store away. And when in use, all you have to do is place the end of it in your door latch, shut the door, and then fold out the sides and tighten the bolt down.

An e-reader is a no brainer for travels, but Kindle's new Scribe throws in the ability to operate as a digital notebook. You can annotate your favorite book paragraphs and then open up your free pages for some travel journalling.

A pair of sleep headphones can help give you that added push to get you into a deep slumber. Throw these on whenever you need to drown out any background noise during your travels.

Sometimes more than one watch is needed for a trip. This hard case will hold up to two watches and protect them when getting from point A to point B.

For today's traveler, a packing list includes not only their daily wear and toiletries, but also tech gadgets: a phone, maybe a laptop or tablet, and possibly a smartwatch. You may also be wondering, what other gizmos are worth lugging around? As it turns out, there's a lot to consider.

Whether you're on a long-haul flight, a never-ending road trip, or just jetting around your destination, there are plenty of travel-appropriate tech gadgets that can make your next trip a breeze.

From gear to ensure you're charged up to a TSA-approved massage gun to ail the aches of travel, here are our favorite travel tech gadgets and accessories to ensure you're ready for anything that comes your way.

top travel electronics

For keeping an eye on your valuables, put a Tile Pro or Apple AirTag in your checked baggage. We recommend Tile because it works for both Android and Apple devices, while utilizing the Tile user network to help you locate things that are much further away.

On the flipside: Apple's AirTag offers the same features, but only works with Apple devices. The AirTag connects to the Find My app built into every iPhone and iPad, which theoretically means it taps into a wider network of users to locate your item. Whichever you choose, consider a tracker in your luggage as personal insurance.

Insta360 X3 Camera

top travel electronics

Sure, the best camera is the phone that's in your pocket, but if there's a reason to bring along an additional shooter, make it the the X3. This 360-degree camera works alongside a companion app on your phone and captures everything surrounding you. No longer will you need to choose what to frame. But what makes this camera truly fun are the special effects you can create, which will make your vacation photos and videos stand out from the crowd.

Sony WH-100XM5 Headphones

top travel electronics

If you want the latest and greatest in over-ear noise-canceling performance, it's the Sony WH-100XM5s . The XM5s sport an updated design with a narrower headband and wider earcups for a roomier fit. The drivers have been updated and the ANC (active noise cancellation) performance has been kicked up a notch thanks to two processors and eight noise-canceling microphones, up from the four microphones found on the previous-gen XM4s. Speaking of the XM4s, they're still a great option and cost $50 less .

Beats Fit Pro

top travel electronics

The Beats Fit Pro was released back in 2021, but they continue to be one of our favorite wireless earbuds. It packs the same features you'd get in the AirPod Pros, but in a more secure, sweat-resistant package. This year, Beats introduced three new eye-catching colors: coral pink , volt yellow , and tidal blue .

Panasonic ErgoFit Wired Earbuds

top travel electronics

It's a good idea to have a pair of wired earbuds to toss in your bag for a flight, especially since most in-seat entertainment systems have yet to roll out support for Bluetooth. And while there are plenty to choose from, Panasonic's ErgoFit is a tried-and-true budget pair you won't regret. Available in more than 15 colors, these earbuds are as basic as you can get, but they'll get the job done for under $20. Just note that you'll need a Lightning adapter for Apple devices .

Anker 622 Magnetic Battery

top travel electronics

If you own an iPhone 12 or newer and want to take advantage of MagSafe technology, this portable battery pack from Anker has a capacity of 5,000mAh, which is more juice than Apple's MagSafe battery pack , which is rated at 1,460mAh. The 622 is capable of wirelessly charging your phone at a max of 7.5 watts, but its best feature is the travel-friendly built-in kickstand. If you're looking for more power, Anker also sells a 10,000mAh version .

For more picks, check out our guide on the best MagSafe battery packs .

Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe

top travel electronics

Apple stans will appreciate Mophie's 3-in-1 charger , which has dedicated charging spots for the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. We're not sure what we like more: the convenient carrying case or that it comes complete with a 30W USB-C wall adapter.

Fujifilm Instax Mini 12

top travel electronics

The Instax Mini 12 is Fujifilm's newest camera, and just like its predecessor, it's a one-button instant camera that's so easy to use that even kids can operate it. The Instax Mini 12 improves on the lineup's winning formula by adding a new lens that you can twist to enable "close-up" mode. The entry-level instant camera works with Instax Mini film , which is widely available. Plus it runs on replaceable AA batteries, so you'll never have to worry about running out of power.

Anker 747 Charger

top travel electronics

If you're a frequent traveler, you need a multiport charging hub. And Anker's GaNPrime-powered 747 Charger is one of the best you can buy right now . With three USB-C ports, one USB-A port, and 150W charging capacity, this compact charger can charge multiple devices — laptops, tablets, smartphones, or other small devices — quickly and all at once. And thanks to GaNPrime technology, the 747 is  smart enough to identify how many devices are connected and how much output each device needs.

Native Union Belt Cable Universal

top travel electronics

When it comes to cables, it pays to have a spare just in case you lose one. For that, we recommend this universal cable from Native Union. Measuring at 6.5 feet long and made from braided nylon, the cord can quickly transition between micro-USB, USB-C, and Lightning connectors.

Bellroy Tech Kit

top travel electronics

A dedicated tech bag can turn the roost of cables, cords, and techy accessories you travel with into a well-organized mobile workstation. While you should shop around to find a tech organizer bag that suits your particular needs, the Tech Kit from Bellroy is a quality option. It features a soft-shell body for added structure and protection, along with loops, pockets, and compartments to neatly store your essentials. It's also available in a compact size .

For more options, check out our guide on the best tech organizer bags .

Nimble Champ Portable Charger

top travel electronics

The Champ Charger is one of Nimble's smallest and lightest power banks, but it still packs a punch. It's designed to top up smaller devices, and supports up to 15W of charging through one USB-A port and one USB-C port. The battery's 10,000mAh capacity is enough to charge your phone or tablet for a weekend of use. Bonus: Nimble is a certified B Corp with a commitment to sustainable consumerism currently unmatched in the consumer tech industry, from using non-traditional materials and plastic-free packaging, to its free e-waste recycling program.

DJI Osmo Mobile 6

top travel electronics

Unfortunately, nobody wants to watch your vacation videos if they're nauseatingly bouncy, no matter how beautiful the scenery is. To capture rock-steady footage with smooth pans and tilts — think Hollywood-style cinematography — put your phone into what is the best gimbal for consumers. It's easy to operate, and the built-in telescoping pole lets you capture selfies with a wider view.

Moft Invisible Laptop Stand

top travel electronics

When you're on the road, ergonomics is a challenge. Moft's "invisible" laptop stand is an ultra-thin portable stand that won't add any weight to your laptop, and only takes a second to put into action. It has two elevation angles (15 and 25 degrees), which you can adjust to whichever is more convenient for your sitting posture. Moft also sells stands for other devices, including the iPad and iPhone .

Epicka Universal Travel Power Adapter

top travel electronics

If you're jet-setting across the world, a universal travel adapter is a must. And you won't find one that'll meet most simple charging needs than Epicka's all-in-one adapter. This handy plug is designed for phones, laptops, and other smaller devices. The retractable prongs allow it to work in more than 150 countries, and it has six charging ports: four USB ports, one USB-C port, and one universal AC socket.

Backbone One Mobile Controller

top travel electronics

For gaming on the road, we recommend the Nintendo Switch . But if you're looking for an alternative with even better portability, we highly recommend the Backbone One Mobile Controller, which can turn gaming on your iPhone or Android phone into a first-class handheld console experience. The Backbone One gives you joysticks and buttons, so it's comfortable for long playing sessions, and it works with mobile titles as well as cloud-gaming services like Xbox and PlayStation Remote Play.

top travel electronics

With Yogasleep's Rohm Travel Sound Machine , you can rest easily wherever the road takes you. It features three modes: bright white noise, deep white noise, and "gentle surf." And unlike other portable sound machines, it's powered by a rechargeable battery instead of disposable batteries. If you're looking for something more baby-friendly, the Hushh Compact Sound Machine features a soft LED night light and child-safe locks.

GoPro Hero 12 Black Action Camera

top travel electronics

If you can only pack one camera for travel, make it the new GoPro Hero 12 Black. An evolution of the already impressive Hero 11 Black , it's small enough to fit in the tightest corners of a bag, yet it is on par with much larger cameras, thanks to 12 generations of innovation. This latest version of GoPro's storied Hero camera can shoot high-dynamic-range video for improved contrast and coloring, a wider field-of-view lens to capture more of a scene, and Bluetooth support for headphones. Plus, it has the best in-camera stabilization yet. It's built to withstand bumps, drops, and splashes, and a great smartphone app lets you upload your footage to social media wherever you are.

Kensington Privacy Screens

top travel electronics

When you think of tech privacy while traveling, you might think of VPNs , which allow you to connect to the internet through a secure server so you can work securely and remotely. But for added security, don't overlook privacy screens. Kensington sells a number of reliable privacy screens  — some attached with magnets, others by an adhesive, depending on your laptop or tablet — that reduces viewing angles and filters blue light .

Etekcity Luggage Scale

top travel electronics

Overweight baggage fees can cost an arm and a leg and who knows what else, and they're especially tricky when traveling internationally. Etekcity's luggage scale is reliable and accurate, plus it's ultra portable and weighs under five ounces to easily fit in your bag.

TwelveSouth AirFly

top travel electronics

A tiny dongle that lets you use your wireless headphones for in-flight entertainment? How smart. TwelveSouth's AirFly plugs into the audio jack so you can hear airline TV screens using your own personal headphones. And with more than 20 hours of battery life, it could last even the most long-haul flights. If you've got a travel companion, the AirFly Duo lets you connect two pairs of headphones at once. And for car rides in older vehicles, the AirFly Pro lets you stream from your phone to the stereo's aux-in port.

Logitech K380 Keyboard

top travel electronics

Logitech's K380 keyboard is an excellent portable set of keys that has a small footprint that will make working even in the most cramped spaces a little more comfortable. It connects to any device that supports Bluetooth and pairs with up to three devices, which is perfect if you're switching between a laptop, tablet, and phone. It's ultra quiet, and can last two years one just two AAA batteries.

The newest ultra-portable speaker from Ultimate Ears, the Wonderboom 3 is a 360-degree speaker that should fulfill your travel needs. It has battery life of up to 14 hours on a single charge. There's an "Outdoor Boost" mode that cranks up the bass, and it can float if you throw it in water. This is a versatile little speaker that can also pair with another Wonerboom speaker for stereo sound.

Kindle Paperwhite

top travel electronics

Easily one of the best Kindles you can buy right now , the 11th-generation Kindle Paperwhite includes a larger 6.8-inch, high-resolution display, adjustable warm lighting, responsive page-turning, and USB-C charging. The base Paperwhite comes with 8GB of storage, which should be plenty for most people (that's around 3,000 e-books).

Hypervolt Go 2

top travel electronics

A must-have for preventing and easing the aches and pains of traveling, the Hypervolt Go 2 weighs just 1.5 pounds and lasts up to 3 hours on a single charge. With three speeds and two interchangeable heads, it can do wonders for a stiff neck, sore muscles, back pain and more. It's also surprisingly quiet. The Go 2 is TSA-approved, as long as it's packed in your carry-on. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a travel case.

Manfrotto Pixi Mini Tripod

top travel electronics

Whether it's for timelapses, self-portraits, or video calls, a phone tripod can be surprisingly handy when you're on the go. Manfrotto makes some of the best travel tripods in the world, and its Pixi Mini Tripod folds up small (you can also use this tripod as a grip) and weighs less than a pound. Unlike some tripods, the Pixi Mini can be used with different types of phones thanks to its universal clamp.

Roku Streaming Stick 4K

The best travel gadgets you can buy: Chargers, headphones, and more

christina-darby-headshot

The holiday season is here, and with it, lots of plans for travel to see family or just to get away. If you're already starting to stress about some of the logistics, don't worry -- there are things you can do and pack that make travel easier, less stressful, and combat some metaphorical turbulence. For example, you can slip an AirTag into your bag to at least know the whereabouts of "lost" luggage.

Also:   The best travel VPNs you can buy

AirTags, however, aren't the only tech travel gadget you should consider as a stowaway. There's lots of tech out there that can save you space, battery, trip memories, and all three combined. To find the gadgets best suited for the job -- and your luggage or even car --  I talked to travel experts and enthusiasts to see what they consider essential, and you should, too. Our pick for best travel tech gadget overall is Anker's 747 GaNPrime 150W charger  due to its compact form and its ability to charge up to four devices quickly. However, this charger is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to essential travel gadgets. Check out the rest of our top picks below.

The best travel gadgets of 2024

Anker 747 ganprime 150w charger, best travel tech gadget overall.

  • Can charge up to 4 devices quickly
  • Compatible with iOS and Android devices
  • USB-A and USB-C charging ports

Anker 747 GaNPrime charger features:  3 USB-C ports and 1 USB-A port | Can charge 2 laptops at once | Can charge up to 4 devices at once | 38% smaller than Apple's 140W charger, but packs in 10 more Watts (150W)

When you're traveling, it's important to keep all your devices powered and ready to go. Has anyone else ever had their phone die just as you're scanning your mobile boarding pass? To avoid that embarrassment, world traveler  Nick Yiu is saving up for the Anker 747 charger to power all his devices for the five flights he has coming up. Even though the brick is smaller than a standard Mac charger from Apple, it offers three USB-C style ports, a traditional USB-A port, and all at a whopping 150W total output. To put it in perspective, it's powerful enough to charge two laptops in a short amount of time.

"This would replace the need to carry any additional power bricks, so you just need this one alone," said Yiu.

The 747 also employs Anker's GaNPrime technology , which is a faster, more powerful, and even more sustainable semiconductor than traditional silicon chargers. Anker's ActiveShield 2.0 technology also monitors temperature throughout the day and makes the appropriate power output adjustments, safeguarding connected devices. For these reasons and more, this charger is even essential for ZDNET contributor  Jason Cipriani  when he travels for work.

However, Cipriani points out that while the brick is compact, it is heavy, "falling out of most outlets, which is why Anker includes a plate that fits around the adapter and has a bunch of small suction cups to hold it against the wall." Aside from its density, the only other downside of the 747 power brick is the $110 price tag. However, when you factor in its adaptability and power, you're really paying for multiple charges rolled into one.

Tessan International Plug Adapter

Best adapter for international travel.

  • Lightweight
  • 5 total USB ports
  • Can use adapter for almost any country
  • Enough wattage to charge a laptop
  • Only compatible for 100V to 250V devices
  • Max of 15W on USB-C

Tessan International Plug Adapter features: 2 USB-A ports (12W) | 3 USB-C ports (15W) | 4 different built-in plugs, which covers over 150 countries | 6 in 1 travel adapter outlet

The New York Times' recent daily crossword  acknowledged that the most "annoying thing" you can forget to pack for a trip is, by far, a charger. Even more frustrating is remembering a charger, and don't forget that if you're traveling abroad, there's a high likelihood your charger won't work. Enter the Tessan International Plug Adapter. This compact tool has four different built-in plug types, which covers over 150 countries, and also includes a universal AC outlet that can convert plugs from the ES, EU, UK, and AU to fit your chargers' socket.

Featuring five total USB ports, three of which are USB-C, this can also be used both internationally and domestically as a multi-charging brick. In fact, the executive editor of The Points Guy, Scott Mayerowitz , says this is one of his biggest tricks since they easily plug into airplane outlets and can be a one-stop, compact shop to keep track of different cords.

This is especially a good option if you don't want the heavy price tag or physical weight of something like the Anker 747. It may not be as fast, but it's definitely efficient and price-conscious. However, keep in mind that devices requiring a higher voltage, such as a hair dryer , are only compatible with devices in the 150V-250V range.

Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones

Best travel headphones.

  • Noise canceling quality is best in class
  • Long lasting battery life
  • Advanced voice chat quality makes for quality video conferencing
  • Over-ear headphones take up more space than earbuds
  • Larger carrying case than previous generations

Sony WH-1000XM5  headphone features: Over ear, closed back | Bluetooth 5.2 | USB-C charging port | Up to 30 hours of battery (3 hours on a 3-minute charge) | 4Hz-40,000Hz frequency response

Sony's WH-1000XM5 headphones are a cult classic. With market-leading active noise cancellation and up to 30 hours of battery, they've rightfully earned the top spot on our best headphones and  best noise-canceling headphones  list and in Lonely Planet Managing Destination Editor Alex Howard's favorite travel bag .

"The drone of the engines disappears into a pleasant background hum, and you can focus on catching up with the Last of Us instead of the screaming baby a few rows over," Howard said.

Excellent sound quality isn't their only travel perk; the Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones include a folding design and compact carrying case, making them easy to take on the go for short and long trips alike.

AirPods Pro 2

Best travel earbuds.

  • Transparent and noise canceling quality is best in class
  • Wireless charging
  • Integrates Apple's FindMy system
  • Remain some of the most expensive earbuds on the market
  • If you have multiple Apple devices, beware of connectivity chaos
  • Not the greatest for non-iPhone users

Apple AirPods Pro 2 features: 6-hour battery life and 30 hours in the case | IPX4 waterproof rating | 5.3 g each | Wireless charging | New Apple H2 chip

Over-ear headphones are a powerful sound blocker, but they're not necessarily space-conscious. If you're not ready to sacrifice precious luggage real estate with headphones, no matter how compact or portable, a pair of pocket-sized noise-canceling earbuds can be just as effective. I personally never leave my apartment without my Apple AirPods Pro 2 or get on a plane without them. What I love about the second-gen AirPods is that they deliver outstanding sound quality in both noise-canceling and transparent modes .

Also: Flying soon? Flighty is a must-have iOS app for air travel

Sure, it's great to block out the rattles of the subway car as I make my way to the airport or the crying baby on the plane, but it's also important to be aware when traveling. And with my AirPods, I can clearly hear the flight attendant announce which carousel my luggage has (hopefully) arrived at without having to pause Taylor Swift's "Welcome to New York" as I fly into the city, per Scott Mayerowitz's suggestion.

Plus, there's a built-in case speaker that makes it easy to ping your AirPods case if it's lost in the depths of your bag or waiting to be rescued from the airplane seatback pocket. Apple's FindMy feature also comes in handy to keep track of all Apple-associated devices when you're on the go, sending you a notification when one isn't on the move with you. The second-gen Pros also employ wireless charging, even via the Apple Watch charger, which may save you packing one less cable.

Review: AirPods Pro 2 offer two big upgrades but connectivity chaos hasn't been tamed

Best travel tablet

  • 12.9-inch screen and high resolution display
  • 1600 nits at peak brightness
  • Lightweight for an iPad Pro
  • Doesn't have the newest M2 chip
  • Camera suite isn't as updated as newer models

iPad Pro (2018) features: M1 chip | 12.9 inch Liquid Retina XDR display | WiFi 6 connection available | 12MP Ultra-Wide camera | 4K video recording at 30 fps or 60 fps | Five microphones and four speakers | FaceID | USB-C charging port

Speaking of Apple, Alex Howard relies on his iPad Pro for inflight entertainment. But his main pro tip is to upgrade to a bigger storage size to "accommodate extra seasons of your favorite TV show when Wi-Fi is spotty."

While a few years old, the 2018 iPad Pro features Apple's fast-performing M1 chip, a 12.9 Liquid Retina HDR display that makes for sharp and vivid visuals, and 1600 nits at peak brightness. Plus, if you take Alex's suggestion and opt for more storage, you won't face much latency and can let the high-res graphics shine.

At  22.26oz and around $480 at most retailers, you won't be adding too much weight to your travel gear or your wallet, especially compared to the most recent iPad Pro model. Additionally, the iPad Pro 2018 (3rd generation) is compatible with the more sleek, capless second-generation Apple Pencil, which simply attaches to the magnetic strip to pair and charge . And if you're like me, it's great for taking notes that can even sync to and stay on your other devices while you're on the go.

Of course, the iPad Pro 2018 also integrates Apple's FindMy system, making it easy to track and find as you destination hop.

Duex Plus monitor

Best travel monitor.

  • Folds up and flips out easily
  • USB-C connectivity – no HDMI cords
  • 1080p resolution
  • Adds bulk to your laptop
  • Pricey at $280
  • Drains laptop battery

Duex Plus monitor features: 13-inch display | Compatible with Mac and Windows laptops | Auto-Rotation display | Multi-device compatibility | 1.33 mm | USB-C plug-and-play

Traveling doesn't mean you have to sacrifice work productivity. If you, like me and many other working professionals, rely on a monitor to multitask, the Duex Plus is a great portable option. Coming with four adhesive magnets, the monitor easily attaches to your laptop cover and flips out hassle-free. From there, it's as easy as connecting via USB-C to either your Mac or Windows laptop -- no extra HDMI cord is needed.

ZDNET's June Wan reviewed the monitor and was not only impressed with the easy setup but also with its ability to enhance his workflow, from responding to Slack messages to video editing.

What makes the Duex optimal for travel is its ability to slide in and out from the laptop lid and then just collapse and act as a makeshift case before you pack it away in your back. While there's no need to lug around an extra bag or pack the monitor as a new entity, it unsurprisingly does add some bulk to your laptop.

Review: This flip-out portable monitor is my productivity secret weapon

Insta360 X3

Best action camera for travel.

  • 360-degree footage
  • Compact and rugged for adventurous travel
  • User-friendly
  • 2.29-inch display makes for an excellent viewfinder
  • Software support can be sluggish
  • 360-footage requires a larger MicroSD card

Insta360 X3 features: 180g | 2.29-inch touchscreen | ½" 48MP sensor | Up to 5.7K resolution | 1,800 mAh removable battery | USB-C or MicroSD connectivity | Waterproof up to 33ft

The best part of traveling is making memories and capturing them. However, lugging around a big camera takes up space, adds weight, and places limits on capturing fun action shots. As of right now, travel buff Nick Yiu likes throwing in his tiny but mighty GoPro to take versatile footage but has his eye on the Insta360 X3 action camera. As the name suggests, the camera films at every angle and assures you won't miss a shot -- even if you're skydiving.

ZDNET's June Wan did have the chance to go hands-on with the Insta360 X3, and his experience confirmed that it's worth a spot on Nick's packing list and our best travel tech list.

"Whether you're a professional or a beginner, the X3 brings a lot to the table for all to play," said Wan.

This third-generation action cam is the Insta360's most compact, refined design yet and, according to Wan, "the exterior is gilded with a rugged blend of rubber and texturized ridges which assures you that the X3 can hang in the toughest outings and/or within the slipperiest of fingers."

Perfect for long adventures, the camera is also capable of lasting two to three days on one charge, limiting yet another device you have to charge on your trip. Additionally, Insta360 puts "art" in artificial intelligence, as June Wan puts it, packing a suite of photo editing AI features on the back and front end.

Review: Insta360 X3 360-degree action cam will blow you away

Guide AI trip planner

Best travel planner.

  • Personalized travel itinerary
  • Hotel booking
  • Can modify recommendations
  • Group planning enabled
  • Only available as a website
  • No flight, transportation, or restaurant booking

Guide features: AI trip planning tool | AI chatbot to ask questions | Free | Can book hotels | Group planning

If you want to make your trip as seamless and efficient as possible, you need a trip planner. While not a tech gadget per se, a planner can help you stay organized before and during your trip, making travel much less stressful.  Guide is an AI travel planning tool that helps you create personalized itineraries based on your trip preferences. (Full disclosure: It's also ZDNET's sister brand. It's currently in private beta, but you can join a wait list.) Once you create an account, you can input your travel details, and Guide will generate a customizable schedule for your desired trip, with hotel, restaurant, activity, and attraction suggestions.

You can modify Guide's suggested itinerary to your liking by adding new activities and restaurants or by moving current suggestions around -- a feature ZDNET associate editor Gabriela Perez Jordan loves. In a recent trip, she used Guide to find the top activities and restaurants to visit in Austin, Texas.

With Guide, you can also send your schedule to friends and family to assist in the trip-planning process, or you can use its chatbot to ask your most burning questions regarding your destination. While you currently can't book any flights, transportation, or restaurant reservations through Guide, you can book and find great hotel deals powered by Expedia.

What is the best travel tech gadget?

There are lots of tech gadgets that can optimize travel, from canceling out distractions on a long flight to capturing memories around you, and a device to power all of those devices. The items on this list consider functionality, durability, build, battery life, and more that hopefully enhance your journey.

*Lowest price at the time of writing. Please note that prices may vary based on retailer and available promotions, sales, or discounts.

Which travel tech gadget should you buy?

All the items on this list were carefully selected, as most have various functionality for different needs, preferences, and even budgets. Here's a further breakdown if you're trying to decide which gadgets are essential for your next trip.

How did I choose these travel tech gadgets?

To compile my list and decide which travel tech was the best of the best, I turned to experts and enthusiasts. I consulted Nick Yiu, who took 15 flights in 2022, the executive editor of travel publication The Points Guy,  Scott Mayerowitz , and Lonely Planet Destinations Managing Editor Alex Howard. As a frequent traveler myself, I also drew from my own experience and looked at products ZDNET has reviewed.  Ultimately, I weighted the following aspects when curating this list:

  • Design: When selecting travel tech gadgets, portability and design were top of mind since you must always consider where you will store your devices during your trip. Most, if not all, of these devices are lightweight and compact, perfect to store in a purse, backpack, carry-on, or suitcase.
  • Durability:  No one likes to buy products that break at first use, which is why I only included items you could buy and count on their performance for years to come.
  • Price: Useful travel gadgets don't have to be a hefty investment, especially when you have hotel, transportation, and flights to consider -- or, let's be real, you can easily forget the gadgets in a car or hotel. The devices on this list are top-quality devices that won't break the bank.
  • Functionality: Traveling requires fitting all of your essentials in a tight, compact space. This means you should only take devices that advance common traveling components, such as charging your phone, tuning out noise on the plane, or storing and recording memories.

What should I look for in a good piece of travel tech?

According to The Points Guy Executive Editor Scott Mayerowtiz, it's important to travel with tech that is lightweight, compact, and durable.

"You might have to pay an extra $10 to $15, but it's well worth it to have the lightest device or the one with the battery that lasts that extra 20 to 30 minutes. It makes all the difference when you're on the road or in the air," he said.

That said, it's also important not to get the most expensive item on the market, "How many chargers have you left in a hotel room when checking out in a rush?" joked Mayerowitz. "Maybe it doesn't have to be the 'best' product out there. Be mindful that things on the road get damaged."

I considered Mayerowitzs' tips on what to look for when compiling this list -- making sure I talked to someone who had hands-on experience with every product and could vouch for it's quality.

Is smart luggage worth it?

Smart luggage has been a hot-button item, but they don't necessarily make travel easier. If a smart suitcase has a lithium battery, you'll have to remove it before even getting to the airport. However, certain smart suitcases, like the Away suitcase, can be purchased without the lithium battery pack.

Are there alternative travel tech gadgets worth considering?

While deciding on the best products on the market, we tried to find the best options to throw in your luggage and make your next trip as stress-free, entertaining, and easy as possible.

However, there are also other options worth considering, depending on your different preferences and how you like to spend your travel time.

There's no reason to add any extra stress to your trip. Get an AirTag wallet and save yourself from a succession of mini heart attacks.

Leica SOFORT 2 Instant Camera (Black)

Leica SOFORT 2 Instant Camera (Black)

Most polaroids are too big and bulky to really enjoy. For any vacation, you should either get a disposable camera or this brand new Leica point and shoot. It takes digital photos you can develop later, but it can also print those photos immediately onto little polaroids.

Apple AirTag, 4-Pack

AirTag, 4-Pack

Of course, you have to get some AirTags. Four is the perfect number, because you can insure you never lose your wallet, passport, carry-on, and checked bag.

Omnicharge Omni 20+ 20000mah Power Bank

Omni 20+ 20000mah Power Bank

A portable charger on the road or in the air will prove a life-saver during those unexpected power-off moments. It's got ports of all kinds for that matter, ready to lend a hand to all the heavy travel tech you'll bring along.

G4 Pro Anti Spy Detector

You never know what kind of creeps are lurking at your hotel room or AirBnb. Hence, a wireless hidden device detector that'll blow the gaff on those pinhole cameras, audio bugs, and trackers. And, it doesn't look like a detective's walkie-talkie, which is cool.

Twelve South AirFly Pro

Bose Alto Audio Sunglasses

Alto Audio Sunglasses

Flexing designer shades on the go is pretty much any traveler's second nature. Bose's classic-cool smart sunglasses , with open-ear audio built in to play music only for you, will save you a pair of headphones at that, while letting you stay alert (of those pickpockets, specifically).

Cadence Starter Set

Starter Set

I talked about these little to-go skincare containers in our editors' travel hacks story . Instead of using drug store travel-sized products, you can take your expensive hair and skin care regimes on the road with you.

Solis Lite Hotspot & Power Bank

Lite Hotspot & Power Bank

The last thing you need while traveling is to go offline—especially if you don't speak the local language. Thus, a WiFi hotspot , like the Solis, which is one of the easiest to operate. Just connect it to the mobile app and pay for the data, then off you go—web surfing, messaging, or any easy Internet usage. Cell carriers be damned.

DJI OM 5 Smartphone Gimbal Stabilizer

OM 5 Smartphone Gimbal Stabilizer

Not just any selfie-stick. Use DJI's smart gimbal that is anti-wobbling to up your photography or vlogging skills to match even the pros. The ActiveTrack algorithm will automatically follow main objects in the frame for an HD focus. They can be walking, running, swimming, zig-zagging... This gimbal don't miss.

VSSL Adventure Flask Kit

Adventure Flask Kit

More than just a drinking vessel kit for passing around whiskey to your traveling mates during a makeshift happy hour, though that's definitely its main purpose. VSSL adds an LED light, compass, and a bottle opener to the setup, so folks who are really outside adventuring can stay safe and sound, and, of course, enjoy some sips.

Bowers & Wilkins Px7 S2e

Px7 S2e

Everybody needs some Don't Talk to Me headphones. These from Bowers & Wilkins so comfortable and sound so great that I awarded them in our Esquire Gadget Awards .

The Nori Press

The Nori Press

An iron and an ironing board are rarely guaranteed, so plenty of fashion types carry a steamer with them. The Nori Press is the best clothes steamer out there because it combines the features of steamer and iron. It's lightweight and packable, but it can set a nice sharp crease.

TUMI Just In Case Tote

Just In Case Tote

Alright, this is pushing the definition of gadget, but hear me out. This nylon tote packs down to the size of a book. Slip it into any suitcase or backpack, and forget it's there. Then—if you have extra stuff to bring home or just pack more lazily—pull it out, expand it and toss all your leftover stuff in it. It's my favorite travel hack product.

Ember Temperature Control Travel Mug 2

Temperature Control Travel Mug 2

Hot coffee isn't just for homebodies who stay still and attached to a seat; travelers and adventurers alike also deserve the heat. Ember's travel mug will keep the contents inside hot at the precise temperature, and keep them secure with a leakproof, slide-lock design.

Bellroy Tech Kit

Tech Kit

We won't tell you what iPhone chargers or power adapters to get—you probably already have the best. But we do recommend a carry-on organizer for all your essential tech accessories, and Bellroy's tech kit has a place for every possible one you might need while traveling.

EPICKA Universal Travel Adapter

Universal Travel Adapter

Maybe if all these heads of state and government just agree upon one shape of input/output plug, we'd have less international conflicts? Before then, grab one—or more—of these all-in-one travel adapters to, IDK, bridge the international relations?

Garmin Instinct 2 Solar GPS Watch

12 Best Travel Gadgets for Any Trip in 2021

He wrote for IndependentTraveler.com for more than 20 years, producing hundreds of columns on travel and offering his expertise on radio and television. When it comes to travel, I am overall anti-gadget; like many independent travelers, I’d rather pack light than lug tons of stuff around in an attempt to carry every convenience of home with me on the road. That said, some travel gadgets are essential to just about every packing list. Besides your smartphone—which is a given for just about all of us—I’ve come up with the 12 best travel gadgets that deserve inclusion in your carry-on.

Universal (All-in-One) Plug Adapter

NEWVANGA international universal all in one worldwide travel adapter wall charger

After years of thrashing through a bag of adapters before every international trip, I was thrilled when all-in-one adapters started appearing on the market—that is, until I tried to use one in actual wall outlets.

Some outlets are recessed, requiring an extender that seemed not to be included in most adapter sets. Some adapters didn’t seem to correspond to the shape that you found in the guidebooks for the country you were visiting. Others were poorly made and came apart after a few days’ use.

That is mostly over, as today’s all-in-one adapters address most of these issues with a built-in extender on the European adapter plugs. Most have enough options that you will never be out of luck, and they tend to be better made to boot.

A couple of well-reviewed choices include offerings from NEWVANGA and Unidapt .

Noise-Canceling Headphones

Cudy ac1200 dual band smart wifi router

“ Noise-canceling headphones were probably the best travel investment I have made,” says pro photographer Erik Dresser, who logs tens of thousands of air miles each year for his work. Dresser notes that the headphones let him shut out the general din of the aircraft so he can relax more easily, permit him to sleep in flight without getting woken up by chatting passengers and crying babies, and signal to others that he is not up for socializing.

USB Flash Drive

Fire hd 8 tablet

A USB flash drive (also known as a thumb drive) can come in handy on any number of occasions while traveling, such as sharing a document with the hotel front desk so they can print it for you or accessing a photo of your passport if it’s lost or stolen.

Amazon lists thousands of these ; most work pretty well.

Portable Phone Charger

Anker powercore 10000, one of the smallest and lightest 10000mah external batteries,

On two separate occasions in the past few years (a company party and a fundraiser), the “party favor” was a small, rechargeable USB phone charger , probably the most useful and welcome party favor in history. The only thing about “party favor” quality chargers is that they tend to fail pretty quickly, so purchasing a good one is probably worth the money.

This one from Anker  will give you a heap of charges, which beats buying drinks you don’t need at a coffee shop just to be able to plug in.

For more recommendations, see SmarterTravel’s list of the best portable chargers .

Car Charger

Maxboost Car Charger

If you will be renting a car or driving your own vehicle on a road trip, bring a car charger/adapter . Recharging your stuff while driving helps combat the “not enough accessible outlets in the hotel” factor and allows you to use your device to map your route, play a podcast , or distract your kids in the back seat without running down the battery. The Maxboost Car Charger seems to be the leader in this realm, ranking #1 on Amazon’s best sellers list in this category.

Weatherproof Phone Case

top travel electronics

In my informal gadget survey of friends who travel frequently, the one thing that few of them owned but many were thinking of getting was a weatherproof phone case . At home, such cases often seem overly bulky, but when traveling they’ve found it more common to get caught out in bad weather.

“ Ziploc bags work to protect the phone, but actually using the phone through a wet plastic bag is a mess,” one noted.

LifeProof cases are the go-to for many hardcore travelers, while PunkCase is a well-regarded option at a lower price point.

Fire hd 8 tablet

Bringing a tablet as well as a phone had always seemed like just too much stuff to me—until newspaper and magazine apps started getting good. I used to leave home with more than five pounds of paper reading material, which I left behind for other potential readers in airplane seatback pockets, gate areas or hotel lobbies; now I download magazines and books to a tablet.

Tablets come in a wide range of price points; click here to browse.

Kindle paperwhite

For heavy vacation/travel reading, many hardcore readers swear by the Kindle because it’s so easy to read outside in strong light. If you read a ton while traveling, and in all kinds of places, a branded Kindle e-reader is probably the way to go in lieu of a tablet.

Solar Charger

Goal zero yeti 400 lithium portable power station

For hardcore travelers who might spend long periods of time away from plugs of any kind—such as backcountry hikers, climbers, and campers— solar chargers are a useful addition to a packing list. Sure, part of the point of heading into the backcountry is getting away from connectivity, but that doesn’t mean that GPS devices, cameras, or even smartphones are completely verboten.

Leading brands for solar chargers include Goal Zero and Suntactics .

Mobile Hotspot

huawei mobile hotspot

Depending on which cell phone plan you use, a mobile hotspot can save you money on international plans and data charges. These devices broadcast a secure, dependable Wi-Fi signal you can use in any country, without having to rely on sketchy public Wi-Fi signals or use your own pricey data. Well-reviewed options include devices from NETGEAR and GlocalMe .

Sun-/Insect-Repellent Shirt

top travel electronics

This isn’t exactly a gadget, but clothing has become quite technical in nature and can provide more than just routine cover. Many companies make pants , socks , and shirts that provide specific protection from both sun and insects, including measurable UV protection as well as EPA-certified insect repellent properties. Many are lightweight and breathable as well, making this a “tech” purchase perfectly suited to travel.

The Insect-Repellent Clothing and Gear Every Traveler Should Have

Smart Suitcase

Away carry on suitcase

We’re in the early days of smart suitcases , but the idea is extremely compelling—being able to check on your smartphone where your bag is, how heavy it is, and whether it has been opened. Many smart suitcases even provide the ability to charge devices through a USB connection.

There are also simple tracking devices you can put into your luggage, so that might be another way to tap into this type of tech without going all in on an expensive bag. As this tech comes into its own, soon enough tracking our own bags might seem almost routine.

Away’s The Carry-On will charge your phone and comes recommended by gear review sites, including SmarterTravel .

How we chose our picks.

For all of our gadget guides, we select products we trust and put good design and performance above all else. This time around, we’ve picked gadgets that will make traveling not only more peaceful and entertaining, but also safer and more productive. This guide includes devices like headphones, handhelds, and speakers for comfort and play, along with more practical gear like a hard drive, trackers, and chargers, so you can get some work done with peace of mind knowing your devices will have enough juice (and so you don’t lose anything). Everything on this list comes from well-known and trusted brands in their respective industries, and we leverage our decade-plus experience reviewing these products and covering the tech space on a daily basis to become intimately familiar with the gadgets before deciding to include them.

Tile Mate

Why It Made The Cut

  • Losing something while traveling is very stressful, and Tile’s water-resistant tracker helps prevent that for up to three years

Best Tracker: There are few hardships as tumultuous as losing something you cherish in a foreign land. With that in mind, a Bluetooth tracker is a necessity when you’re traveling, and who better to trust than Tile? As the brand that started it all, its water-resistant Mate tracker boasts a 3-year battery that you can replace when needed, so it’s intended to keep your valuables in check for a number of your upcoming vacations, as well as once you get back home.

Battery Life:  3 years Bluetooth Range: 76 meters

  • It’s better for your teeth to have a reliable toothbrush than some dinky throwaway, especially if it’s electronic and has smartphone connectivity

Best Toothbrush: In a similar vein to wrinkles, hygiene upkeep most certainly doesn’t take a vacation just because you are. With that in mind, a smart toothbrush with seamless smartphone connectivity is the way to go. Maintaining oral hygiene is vital, and keeping track of just how long you’re brushing is made equally important thanks to Quip’s app that informs its users on their top-and-bottom row coverage and overall intensity. For those looking to have fresh breath throughout their trip and also make their dentist proud on their next visit, this is the way to go.

Batteries Required:  1 AAA Bristle:  Soft

It’s on every packing list , though we hardly need to write it down to remember it: a smartphone. Few of us travel without one these days, and more often than not, our technology haul extends beyond just a phone; a tablet or e-reader, digital camera, laptop, portable charger, and wireless headphones may be on the list, too. Whether you’re working remotely or not, chances are you’re bringing your entire digital setup with you. But throwing a tangle of cords and technology in your carry-on is a recipe for frustration when you find your face pressed up against the tray table, blindly searching for a charging cable in your under-seat bag.

Where there’s a digital device, there are its accessories, and tech organizers keep them tidy and easy to find while you’re in transit. If you like the organization of a toiletry bag for your body and skincare, why not a tech bag for your digital gear?

Travel tech organizers come in many different designs. There are hard-shell, soft-shell, folio, and roll-up varieties that are designed with different layers of pouches, elastics, zippers, and pockets. In my own experience, simple designs come out on top. Look for adjustable straps and pockets that will grow with you and your tech gear.

Everyone's needs are slightly different for their own digital Dopp kit, so you'll want to first take stock of your essentials. Lay all your gear out on a table to help determine what kind of bag will fit your tech travel setup. Then, read on for our most-recommended travel tech organizers.

  • Best overall: The Guzo utility pouch
  • Best budget pick: Travelon tech accessory organizer

  • Best for everyday use: Dagne Dover Arlo tech organizer
  • Best colorways: Calpak tech organizer
  • Best size options: Wandrd tech bag
  • Best water-resistant case: Bellroy tech kit
  • Best discreet organizer: BookBook CaddySack
  • Best style: Parker Clay Olivia organizer

Best overall

top travel electronics

Parker Clay’s bags are made of fine Ethiopian leather and abide by the highest standards of ethical manufacturing and sustainable sourcing. The leather goods brand partners with Ellilta Women at Risk (EWAR), to hire and train at-risk women in craftsmanship. Its bags are not only made sustainably (read more about the brand's leather production and sourcing here ), they’re also well-designed and timeless in their construction. The Guzo Utility Pouch is a chameleon of travel bags: Use it as a slim tech pouch that you can slide into any tote , or transform it into a handy clutch you bring to a cafe or out to dinner.

Standout features: A sleeve slips over your palm to make this bag cup into your hand, so it doesn’t slip out of your grasp while you hold it.

What we love most: It can transform into a chic clutch by night if you’re trying to pack a tight capsule wardrobe .

Dimensions: 10"L x .25"W x 7"H

Best budget pick

A tech organizer.

Tech organizers don’t have to be complicated, they just need to be easy to find in your bag when you need them. The Travelon tech accessory organizer in the color lime pops, and is easy to spot quickly, even in the dark. The roll-up design makes it compact and malleable in any bag. Made of ripstop fabric, the water- and stain-resistant exterior would also hold up on backpacking or outdoor trips if you’re stuffing it in a jam-packed hiking pack .

Standout features: The flexible roll-up design makes this ideal for tucking into empty corners of any backpack or bag.

What we love most: Malleable yet tough ripstop construction

Dimensions : 6.5"L x 1"W x 5"H

Best for remote workers

top travel electronics

If you’re a digital nomad , chances are your laptop goes with you everywhere, which means chargers and accessories are a must-carry too. This Mosiso laptop bag cuts down on the number of bags and cases you need: It’s a shoulder bag, cushioned laptop sleeve, and tech organizer all in one. Available in standard 13" and 16" sizes that fit most laptops, the Mosiso keeps your laptop in a cushy cocoon with 360-degree padding. On the outside, tuck all of your laptop accessories into soft zippered pouches. Big enough to hold external hard drives and battery packs, you won’t forget them when they’re attached to your laptop.

Standout features: Keep laptop accessories in the same place as your laptop to avoid fishing around for them in another bag. Carry it like a briefcase, or attach the sling strap and make it a day bag you can bike or walk with hands-free.

What we love most: A luggage sleeve that slips over your carry-on handle

Dimensions : 16.57”L x 11.81”W x 2.36”H

Best for photographers

top travel electronics

Peak Design is known for designing with the travel photographer in mind. The Peak Design tech pouch is a padded, semi-rigid carry-all that can stand upright on its own and opens like a clam with a 270-degree zipper. Interior accordion-like compartments are designed to separate key photography gear and snug elastics hug SD cards. A pen holder keeps a stylus handy in one place. Large pockets open up for charging blocks, power banks, and hard drives. An exterior zippered pouch holds need-to-reach items without unloading the whole bag. Peak Design’s proprietary anchor system and strap transform this tech pouch into a small day bag when you need it.

Standout features: A hand sleeve that slides over your palm makes this easy to open on the go without needing a flat surface to set it on. Plus, it can accommodate bulky items like a small point-and-shoot camera, a mouse, or a battery.

What we love most: The charging cable pass-through allows you to plug in your device from the outside without taking out the cable and battery.

Dimensions: 6"L x 9.5"W x 4"H

Best for Apple users

top travel electronics

Both a battery pack and a tech organizer, the Function 101 BentoStack Charge 8000 is a stackable hardshell case geared toward Apple loyalists. The Charge 8000 offers three ways to charge, which can be used simultaneously: a USB-C port, USB-A port, and wireless charging. Four different storage layers provide a space for everything, which includes two shallow layers for your Apple Pencil and Apple watchbands; and two deeper layers for larger items like AirPods, charging cables, and wall charging bricks. Mix and match the layers as you like, and keep it all together with a color-matched silicon band.

Standout features: Apple’s love for minimalist design makes this Japanese–inspired tech storage box blend in seamlessly with your products.

What we love most: It’s a hefty battery bank with handy attached storage, which keeps a suite of Apple accessories tidy and juiced up on the go.

Dimensions: 7.75"L x 3.75"W  x 4.6"H

Best for everyday use

top travel electronics

This mini tech organizer from Dagne Dover might as well live in your everyday tote. The Dagne Dover Arlo tech organizer in the small version is an agile addition to your travel kit because of its nimble size—tuck it into a belt bag, travel sling , or day pack without much added bulk. Designed to keep your laptop and phone basics handy, this neoprene organizer doesn’t leave extra space for items to slip around. Everything is kept snug using elastics and mesh pockets made of recycled plastic.

Standout features: Try it in two sizes—small and large, and swap them out for shorter or longer trips.

What we love most: The small size makes this easy to add to day bags, belt bags, or slings without taking up too much space or adding bulk.

Dimensions: Small: 4.5" L x 2.25"W x 5”H; large: 8"L x 3.25"W x 5.25"H

Best colorways

Image may contain: Bag, Accessories, Handbag, and Backpack

Calpak’s travel tech organizer doesn’t reinvent the wheel here, but they do make it a lot more colorful and fun. This lay-flat organizer has elastics for storing rolled-up cords, and a zippered pouch perfect for USBs, hard drives, or charging bricks. The trouble won’t be figuring out how to organize your tech, it’ll be choosing from one of 16 different colorful patterns that show off your style and personality.

Standout features: A mesh pouch makes loose items easy to spot and grab quickly. Elastics and snug slip pockets keep anything from spilling out when you open it.

What we love most: The array of fun colors and classic patterns you can choose from.

Dimensions: 7"L x 9.5"W x 1.5"H

Best size options

Wandrd started as a Kickstarter designing bags for on-the-go photographers . Today, its travel bags are useful for any traveler looking for durable, gear-protecting bags backed by a lifetime guarantee. The Wandrd tech bag is offered in three different sizes which can nest together, or be bought and used separately. Built with an array of straps and grab points on the outside, you can attach these to your backpack or weekender using basic carabiners. An optional strap transforms the Wandrd tech bag into a compact sling. Earthy, neutral colors like Aegean blue, Yuma tan, and Sedona orange are fun variations to basic black, though that is offered too.

Standout features: Choose from a small, medium, or large version depending on your needs. Or, nest them together for an agile set of organizers that grows with your packing list.

What we love most: The fleece-lined zippered pouch (in the large size) keeps your iPhone cushioned and scratch-free.

Dimensions : Small: 7.75"L x 2"W 4.5"H; medium: 9"L x  3"W x 4.5"H; large:  9"L x 4"W x 5.5"H

Best water-resistant case

Bellroy Tech Kit

This semi-hardshell case from Bellroy carries just the essentials in a compact design. Available in 11 neutral colors made from recycled water-resistant woven fabric, the Bellroy is built to last and backed by a three-year warranty. A floating interior wall forms the interior pocket and closes with a satisfying magnetic click. Elastics hold dongles and other small items you may be prone to losing at the bottom of a bag.

Standout features: A firm, padded exterior give you peace of mind that your tech won’t get knocked or jostled around—essential for hard drives. Everything has a place in this organizer that keeps your accessories from moving an inch.

What we love most: The three-year warranty and water-resistant exterior

Dimensions : 5.12"L x 9.06"W x 2.8"H

Best discreet organizer

top travel electronics

Disguised as a leather-bound book, the CaddySack tech organizer by Twelve South is great for those who like to sprawl out at the cafe but worry their AirPods might get swiped when they’re not looking. Zip up this organizer and it turns into an incognito book. Though CaddySack designs for Apple products, the interior Velcro straps aren't limiting, so whether you're packing a Mac brick, mouse, or travel outlet adapter, it'll fit right in. Suit up all your tech in a slick literary sleeve with the rest of its BookBook cases.

Standout features: A tweed interior and leather exterior give this tech organizer a polished look and feel.

What we love most: When you’re not traveling, this case looks great on an office bookshelf as an incognito way to keep cords together at home.

Dimensions : 5.7"L x 1.6"W x 8"H

top travel electronics

The Parker Clay Olivia organizer is thoughtfully designed in partnership with HGTV interior designer Sabrina Soto . Design and organization go hand-in-hand and it shows in this full-grain leather bag’s accordion construction. It separates little bits and bobs and offers quick access to everything at a glance. You don’t need two hands to unzip, unlatch, or pull open a pocket—a smart feature for hurried travelers. Grab a few of the six neutral colors and use them for toiletries, makeup, and your tech.

Standout features: Durable leather construction allows it to stand up on its own

What we love most: Details like a brass zipper pair well with full-grain leather that will age nicely with time.

Dimensions : 8.5"L x 3"W x 6"H

The Gadgets We Bring on Every Trip

Updated March 15, 2024

We’ve reviewed this list and added a few new picks.

We've tested hundreds of gadgets, packed (and overpacked) for dozens of trips, flown hundreds of thousands of miles, and worked remotely from all over the world. But you don't have to be a digital nomad or a tech expert to travel like one. Here are a few gadgets and accessories to make travel as painless as possible via plane, train, or automobile, as well as at your destination.

Packing well means bringing only what you need. Pick things that are light, durable, and versatile.

Multiport USB wall charger

If you’re packing multiple chargers, it’s time to get something better. A single multiport USB charger can quickly charge all your devices at the same time and is barely bigger than the one that comes with a tablet. Some can even charge a laptop.

top travel electronics

Affordable, fast, and compact, this four-port 40-watt USB-A charger is great for use at home or on the road.

top travel electronics

This compact charger can power almost any USB-C laptop at top speed, and it works great for lower-powered devices, too.

Portable power strip

Packing a power strip that turns a single available outlet into three is an easy way to make quick friends out of potential enemies at airports, hostels, or anywhere outlets are at a premium.

top travel electronics

This compact strip gives you three AC outlets and two USB power ports but doesn’t take up much space in a bag or weigh you down.

top travel electronics

With 3 AC outlets, 2 USB-A ports, and 1 USB-C, this compact little cube has 5 feet of extension cord and will easily charge even power-hungry MacBooks. About the size of a tennis ball, it packs up easily into your carry-on and comes with an 18-month warranty.

USB power bank

A power bank ensures that your phone never runs out of battery when you need it.

top travel electronics

This power bank is small and light, and it has enough capacity to charge most smartphones up to three times.

Cables and adapters for your devices

Your devices won't do you much good if you don't have the right cables to charge them. We suggest packing a spare for any mission-critical gear (in a separate bag if possible) just in case you lose one.

top travel electronics

Anker’s PowerLine Lightning cables are fast, sturdy, and inexpensive, plus they come with a lifetime warranty. The 6-foot version is great for travel, when conveniently placed outlets are in short supply.

top travel electronics

This cable is MFi-certified, sturdily built, and comfortable to grip, and it has a lifetime warranty. The 6-foot version is long enough to reach from a wall outlet to a nightstand or desk.

top travel electronics

Anker’s PowerLine cables are fast, sturdy, and inexpensive, plus they come with a great warranty. The 6-foot version is great for travel.

top travel electronics

This 6.6-foot cable rated for 100 watts can recharge even large laptops such as the 16-inch MacBook Pro, but it supports only USB 2.0 data-transfer speeds.

top travel electronics

This cable can charge any USB-C laptop, even the 16-inch MacBook Pro, at full speed. It’s overkill (and short) for charging a phone, though.

Noise-cancelling headphones

Noise-cancelling headphones make it easier to hear music or movies over whatever cacophony is playing out around you. Or just wear them without sound to luxuriate in your private sanctuary.

top travel electronics

The ideal travel companion, this pair of earbuds offers excellent noise cancellation, great sound, and long battery life.

top travel electronics

The Bose 700 headphones deliver excellent noise cancellation in a comfortable, lightweight design that’s traveler friendly.

Virtual private network subscription

A VPN can keep your phone, laptop, or tablet secure when you’re logging in from public Wi-Fi; it can also help you get around regional censors and access the US version of sites while you’re abroad.

top travel electronics

Mullvad is transparent about its security and privacy practices. The VPN offers reliable connections and is easy to use on laptops, phones, and tablets.

Two-factor authenticator app

Two-factor authentication gives you an extra layer of security for your important accounts. An app is more secure than SMS verification and works without a cell or data connection.

top travel electronics

Duo Mobile is free, available on both Android and iPhone, and easy to use, and its security features are better than those of other two-factor authentication apps.

Password manager

A password manager is essential all the time, but it’s especially important when you’re traveling, so your passwords stay strong, secure, and accessible wherever you are in the world.

top travel electronics

1Password now offers its extensive set of bells and whistles across all major platforms, including Windows and Chrome OS. With excellent security and a clear user interface, it’s the password manager to beat.

top travel electronics

The free version of Bitwarden covers all the basics of a good password manager and doesn’t cost anything. But it lacks a feature that checks password strength and doesn’t have encrypted file storage.

Nice-to-haves

For long trips and international journeys, here are some optional items to keep you connected, organized, and entertained.

Bluetooth tracker

If you want to locate your luggage in case an airline loses your bag or you accidentally leave it somewhere, a Bluetooth tracker can help you keep tabs on your items.

top travel electronics

AirTags use Apple’s huge network of devices to track down lost items, and they’re impressively accurate in pinpointing an item’s precise location.

top travel electronics

The Tile Mate has a long range and takes up virtually no space in a suitcase. Its network isn’t as extensive as Apple’s, but it’s the best Android-compatible tracker we’ve tested.

Cable organizer bag

A bag can keep your cables, adapters, dongles, and small electronics stowed neatly and easily accessible.

top travel electronics

The fine mesh makes it easy to see what these zip-top bags contain (though isn't water resistant), and the bags come in two sizes and colors so you can create a modular system for your cables, cosmetics, or whatever else you need.

Laptop backpack

A good backpack will protect your laptop from damage, and keep all your stuff organized and easy to find.

top travel electronics

Refined details—including leather accents and gunmetal hardware—elevate this travel-friendly pack’s simple silhouette.

Travel plug adapter

Most modern electronic power supplies can work with voltages from 100 to 250 V, but you still need an adapter for the wall socket if you're traveling internationally.

top travel electronics

Small, simple, and cheap, this set is perfect for someone who wants to carry only the adapter they’ll need and who already has a multiport USB wall charger they like.

top travel electronics

With four plugs that will work in most countries, plus built-in faster-charging USB ports, this adapter has more features for a little more money.

Portable AC battery pack

If you have a laptop that doesn't charge via USB, an AC battery pack will charge it (and all your USB devices too).

top travel electronics

This portable charger has an AC outlet, two fast-charging USB-C ports, and a USB-A port, and it can charge even the most power-hungry laptops while they’re in use. But you need to provide your own wall charger.

Ebook reader or tablet

With an e-reader or tablet, you can enjoy endless entertainment—whether it's books, comics, movies, or games—in a slim package.

top travel electronics

This Kindle’s features and price, coupled with Amazon’s vast collection of reading material, make it the best device dedicated to reading.

top travel electronics

The standard iPad is fast, easy to use, and compatible with the Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard, and it offers the features most tablet users need.

International phone plan

Most phones now work worldwide, but international roaming can be nearly free or outrageously expensive. We’ve researched the best mobile phone services for the majority of frequent international travelers.

top travel electronics

With coverage in more than 210 countries and no international data roaming fees, T-Mobile Magenta is the best plan for most people who travel frequently and already own their phone.

Streaming stick

A portable media streamer can make a hotel room TV feel like your TV at home.

top travel electronics

Easy to set up, the Roku stick supports huge numbers of streaming channels, works with hotel Wi-Fi portals, and gets all the power it needs from the TV's USB port. And its smartphone app lets you leave the remote at home.

USB data blocker

USB data blockers let you charge your devices from other peoples' USB ports (including charging kiosks) without the risk of their accessing your phone's data or infecting it with malware.

top travel electronics

The PortaPow lets you charge your phone or other USB device from a USB port without worrying about accidental data transfer or malware infection, and unlike some others, it won't limit your charging speed.

Nintendo Switch

The Switch is a great home game console but also a great portable console for travel.

top travel electronics

If you want a console you can disconnect from the TV and take with you, or if you just prefer Nintendo’s games, the Switch is for you.

If you don't want to risk your laptop or the data on it, a Chromebook is inexpensive, secure, and ideal for international travel. You can even wipe it before you travel and set it up when you get to your destination.

top travel electronics

Reliable performance, a spacious touch display, and long-enough battery life for a full workday make this model the best Chromebook for the price.

top travel electronics

This Asus model is a less expensive option that doesn’t sacrifice performance, but its non-touch display isn’t as tall, vibrant, or convenient as that of our top pick.

Things to skip

Global travel SIM card

Global travel SIM card

These are very expensive for what they offer. You're better off with a local SIM, a good international data plan, or a phone that supports eSIM so you can activate a local data plan without buying a physical SIM card.

International hotspot

International hotspot

We haven't yet found an international hotspot worth the money. A better bet is to rent one upon arrival, find a hotel or café with Wi-Fi, or tether from your phone.

cool travel accessories | CGear Beach Mat

I love going to the beach, but I really hate having sand all over me. I go crazy sitting on a sarong or towel at the beach and get covered in sand. This CGear mat really does wick away the sand. 26. USB Headlamp

useful travel accessories | headlamp

We are still fans of headlamps even with built-in flashlights in our cell phones and power banks. Why? Because with headlamps we are completely hands-free. 28. Collapsible Water Bottle

best travel gadgets for backpackers | collapsible water bottle

We’re all about saving space, and while we used to carry a stainless steel hard water bottle, we’ve switched to the Collapsible to save space. It’s a great alternative to traditional water bottles. We like this silicon water bottle because it is lightweight and bendy. Plus, a portion of profits go to Dolphin Rescue so how can you go wrong with that? Get it on Amazon

Love the article, thanks.

Very nice, love those gadgets!!

The post was excellent. The great information and the gadgets were great. We should all use them while traveling and make them essential items. Because they help us travel efficiently, I always use them whenever I go anywhere. I love how easy it is to travel with a tablet stand.

I enjoyed reading your blog post. You included so many helpful tips that I never thought to take with me while traveling. I especially like the idea of the external hard drive, which is a great way to ensure that your photos are safely backed up!

Hello Dave And Deb,

These are some awesome gadgets, have one of not many of them, going to get some subsequent to understanding this. Much obliged for sharing.

Hi Dave and Debs What a fantastic list of gadgets you have put together. I will have to invest in most of these someday soon. On a different note: The photo of Santorini looking across the volcanic island at the top of the page looks so surreal. Did you take that pic yourself as it looks almost too real to believe. It seems too perfect to be able to get a shot like that.

Yes we did take that photo. We had a beautiful view from our cave hotel overlooking the caldera. You can read all about it here. https://theplanetd.com/where-to-stay-in-santorini-greece

Great post, Great knowledge, and Great Gadgets. We all should use them while travel and make them essential things too. As they are helping us in travelling effectively then why not use them always while going anywhere. Personally I use many gadgets and I love how my travelling becomes super easy.

These are some really useful gadgets, have one of few of them, gonna get some after reading this. Thanks for sharing.

I love to travel… I have read somewhere “Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before”. we do not take of these useful gadgets when traveling but we consider this while planning for the next trip and take with some useful gadgets with us.

Thanks for your article!

Excellent information for the travellers tips of the best travel gadgets for the tech lover. I really enjoy reading this blog which gives the most important & useful knowledge for the backpackers.

Wow! I am a tech lover and I really love all these gadgets that you were listed.

Great, USB ports I can charge two devices at once and it even charges iPads and camera batteries.

Some great tips! Fathers Day in Australia is a while away though. I combined Father’s Day, Christmas and Birthday for my Dad last year (since they all fall in November and December) and got him an Ipad mini.

thank you for giving such wonderful information

Thankyou for this wonderful blog post. It helped us recently during a travel.

I just love tech, I have a friend in Dubai who likes these kinds of gadgets. We tell each other about new tech like these.

We love tech too. I’m looking forward to seeing what comes down the pipe in 2018

Hey Deb and Dave, this list is fantastic. And mentioning the dry-bag in your video is a very smart move. Carrying all those electronics is one thing, but keeping them intact is a whole different story. One time, when I was on a boat tour in Thailand, they tried to scare us into buying a veeeery overpriced dry-bag because “our stuff could get wet” along the way. They weren’t too pleased when I leisurely pulled out my own 🙂 So yeah, thanks for this list. I’ll check it again before I leave for my next trip. Seraina

Thank You for sharing this..This is very useful tip for any adventurist and travel baackpacker

This is really useful tip for any adventurist and travel backpacker

Thank you for this gadget list, very useful

Thanks for sharing. These are some really useful gadgets, have one of few of them, gonna get some after reading this.

I totally agree with your recommendations! Especially the Sony RX100 Mark V is simply the best pocket camera you can buy right now.

Excellent guys! Technology is becoming an ever-increasingly important part of our lives – especially for the digital nomads out there! Light, portable, affordable and good quality are key aspects!

Great list! I don’t exactly have the same models for all the gadgets in your list, but pretty much have all of them and right now I am looking for Goal Zero products to charge my devices through solar energy when I am a little on the off the beaten track. Thanks again for the list guys!

Great blog post. Lots of helpful products included that I would never think of taking when travelling. Especially like the idea of the external hardrive, very useful to ensure photos are safely backed up!

Cool gadgets! I’d love to have a portable hard drive. It’s so, so important for backing up pictures and other important files.

Glad to found this post, it’s very to important to know for all tech-savvy traveler. This is a great list with awesome gadgets. Keep it up and cheers.

Great tech ideas! I consider myself up to date with technology, but apparently I am not as up to date as I thought. You mentioned a few ideas that I did not know about. The fitbit is a great idea. I didn’t know that you could get a drone for aerial picture taking. Sounds great!

Awesome, so glad that we could give you a few new ideas. We do love our fitbit.

Thank you for this post, I love reading about travels almost as much as I love to travel

You’re welcome. Cheers!

Some great tips! Fathers Day in Australia is a while away though. I combined Father’s Day, Christmas and Birthday for my Dad last year (since they all fall in November and December) and got him an Ipad mini. He loves it and its great for when he wants to skype me when I’m travelling (unfortunately he has been suffering some mental health issues so I’m always really anxious to keep in contact with him), it was a win-win situation. I also got my Pa a kindle which is an amazing gift for an older dad/grandpa as they can increase the font to not strain their eyes. Pa was struggling with books and had to actively look for big text at the library- this solves that problem. I loaded it up with over 200 free books and he is good to go. The only thing is both of them often call me when they can’t work something out !!

Great tips Britt. And sorry to hear about your dad, but I am glad that you an keep in touch with him. My dad loves having Skype. That’s amazing that you out 200 free books on yourPa’s kindle. I’ll have to do that!

Thanks for the update on the latest gadgets, things are changing so fast sometimes its hard to catch up! That petcube looks awesome, first time iv seen it.

good tech stuff!!! cheers

  • Why Trust T+L

Travel + Leisure / Brian Kopinski

Keeping your tech organized and accessible is essential for a stress-free travel experience. Sure, we used to just toss our tech items in a clean toiletry case and call it a day, but that was before we had so much stuff. These days it seems like there’s a different cable for every device, and a different device for practically everything. We’d rather spend a little extra time in the sun than be fiddling with tangled charging cords or searching for the correct generation USB plug.

These travel tech organizers will keep you juiced up, plugged in, and zoned out without skipping a beat. We’ve got picks for the ultra-minimalist who can survive with the bare essentials, the unabashed maximalist who needs space for everything, and everyone in between.

Best Overall

Calpak tech organizer.

It’s got a packable, slim profile but still fits the essentials.

The retention bands can lose elasticity quickly when storing overly bulky items.

This minimalist bag has a spot for all your essential travel tech accessories and comes with the quality and cachet of the Calpak name. The clamshell design makes it a cinch to grab your gear without fiddling with deep pockets or multiple organization layers. Plus, this tech organizer sports the right amount of padding — enough to cushion but so much that adds unnecessary bulk — and its slim 1.5 inch-deep profile still fits nicely in a carry-on or personal item bag. The top grab handle makes it easy to pull out and carry, too.

All three full-side storage pockets have convenient pull tab zippers, and two have front mesh fabric, so you can assess their contents in one quick look. We found the two interior slip pockets large enough to hold a portable charging bank and loved how the four elastic retention bands kept our cords separated, snug, and at the ready. Just note that these bands can stretch out over time; faster if you store very thick or bulky cords. Plus this case comes in 12 colors and patterns, so it’s simple to pair the perfect bag with your travel style.

The Details: 9.5 x 7 x 1.5 inches | 0.25 pounds | Polyester and polyethylene

Best Budget

Bevegekos tech organizer travel case.

You get twice the usual storage area with this organizer’s two-layer, double-clamshell design.

The smaller compartments are tiny and reduce the overall functionality of the organizer.

There are not a lot of bells and whistles with this basic organizer, but it delivers for anyone who doesn’t travel often or those who don’t have many tech accessories to pack. We really liked the extra value that the double-layer clamshell design gives. Instead of the usual two interior storage walls, this organizer has four. You’ll get two larger slip pockets for storing a smartphone or charging bank, three medium-sized mesh pockets for things like wireless earbuds or USB charging cables, and a deep slip pocket with two fairly tight small mesh slip pockets on top. The two small mesh pockets can only really fit something small, like an SD card, leaving it to feel a bit outdated and like a waste of space. Instead, we’d rather see this whole panel used as another large slip pocket. This bag also comes in medium and large versions, with varying dimensions and deeper pocket sizes.

The Details: 7.48 x 4.33 x 2.16 inches | 3.87 ounces | Jacquard | Water-resistant

Best Roll-up

Procase travel gear organizer.

The elastic closure band keeps it secure whether it’s stuffed or slightly filled.

There is a risk of items slipping out if the elastic on the interior pockets loosens.

Unlike a zippered bag with a fixed width, this rolling design allows you to pack in a variety of tech accessories without having to worry as much about volume constraints. With this organizer bag, you’ll be able to stuff all the pockets and roll it up. The elastic band closure will secure the roll whether you’ve packed a lot or a little. Other rolling bags we’ve seen have a fixed snap or buckle closure, which means you’ve got to fill the bag exactly in order to get a secure closure. We also like that when this unrolls, your entire tech set is laid out and easy to access. Storage compartments include three mesh zippered pockets, six retention bands for cords, three mini slip pockets, and two expandable nylon slip pockets. We do want to flag that once the elastic pockets start to loosen, you may run the risk of some items sliding out.

The Details: 17 x 9 inches (laid flat), 4.5 × 9 inches (rolled up) | 4.6 ounces | Nylon | Water-resistant

Best Everyday Use

Dagne dover tech organizer.

Dagne Dover

There’s a D-ring loop that can clip into a main bag for easy locating on the go.

It’s best used with Apple products.

This simple but effective tech organizer from Dagne Dover is a no-fuss solution for making sure you always have your essential tech accessories with you. Like with many compact travel tech organizers, the Dagne Dover Arlo Tech Organizer seems to work best with Apple products (or products with a similar size and shape). It’s a great organizer for everyday use during commutes with compartments for a computer charging cable extender, charging brick, a small USB charging wall adapter, and a USB charging cord. We also like the small, plastic D-ring that can be clipped into a larger commuter backpack. The tough neoprene material is waterproof, too. So if you get caught in bad weather, you don’t have to panic. We like the small version but it also comes in a large size for those with more gear.

The Details: 4.5 x 2.25 x 5 inches | 5 ounces | Neoprene, recycled polyester | Waterproof

Mark & Graham Essential Tech Folio

Mark & Graham

Design details boost the overall look of the folio.

It’s leather and can be ruined with excessive water exposure.

With two-toned colorways and design details like angled leather pocket sleeves, this folio earns extra style points. Thankfully, it’s not looks over function as you use tasseled leather pulls to navigate the gold metal zip. Once opened, you’ll see one side with two inset sleeves, a change pocket, and cut-slots for your ID and other cards along with a spot for a tablet; the large version can fit a standard iPad but it also comes in a small size that fits an iPad Mini. The other side has well-spaced leather slip pockets for things like a wireless earbuds case, a smartphone, a passport, and thin loose charging cables. Giving it as a gift? You can go the extra mile and personalize it with a gold or silver foil embossed monogram or larger printed letters. This is a real leather product, so it’ll need to be handled with care. Wipe off and dry any water to avoid spotting or damage.

The Details: 8.5 x 11 x 1 inches | Leather

Best Cable Organizer

Side by side cable organizer tech bag.

It has a very packable shape and unbeatable storage capabilities (that even fits bulky PC chargers).

Most of its storage organization uses retention straps.

This organizer bag immediately stands out among others because of its shape. It goes against the grain of the usual boxy design and goes for slim length. We love it not only because this makes it extremely convenient to pack (especially in a duffel or backpack) but also because it requires less bending for your cords. It can accommodate long cords easily and manages to do what few tech organizers can: fit those thick PC charging cords , including the brick. The outer panels have a flexible compression fabric that holds items in place but can stretch to fit oddly shaped or oversized accessories. Items are stored in two separate zippered compartment sides, mostly using elastic retention straps of different sizes. There’s only one zippered pocket inside. It’s mesh and roughly the size of a credit card.

The Details: 10.2 x 3.5 x 1.6 inches | 9 ounces | 300D polyester, elastane nylon

Best With Stand-up Case

Native union stow lite organizer.

It looks smart and is made from soft but durable recycled materials.

There’s no handle or wrist strap.

This soft-sided tech organizer bag has an A-line silhouette that ensures it will stand up on its own, making it more convenient when you’re searching for something or loading it up before a trip. We like how simple but stylish it is. It's made from recycled plastic bottles with a leather zipper trim that kicks up the look (though we wrestled with the zipper a few times because of the trim). It’s a great pick for travelers who have a few specific items they want to store separately for quick access, but don’t mind tossing other items in the main pocket. The interior organization includes five lightly padded slip pockets for items like USB charging cords, Bluetooth mouse, and earbuds with the case. The main pocket can be a bit snug when the pockets are full but can generally fit an iPhone charger and MacBook charger (both with bricks), a slim charging bank, a few extra USB cables, and small wall adapters. One thing we found to be lacking? You can only carry it like a clutch — there’s no handle strap or detachable wristband.

The Details: ‎4.53 x 7.48 x 2.56 inches | 3.18 ounces | Leather and recycled polyester | Water-repellent

Best Leather

Parker clay utility pouch.

Parker Clay

The beautiful and durable leather is sourced from Ethiopia.

The partially zippered opening can make it annoying to load.

If you’re the type of person who likes to keep their valuables close, this gorgeous leather tech pouch is carried like a clutch. It’s made from sustainable goat leather from Ethiopia, which looks as luxe as it feels against your palm. We like bringing this pouch in our personal item and packing it with our in-flight entertainment tech essentials like an iPad mini, Kindle, smartphone, earbuds with a case, and corresponding chargers. It’s also best unloaded at your seat since you’ll only get a two-thirds opening, which can block access and be especially frustrating when loading it up. On the plus side, a quick change of contents and this pouch can easily become a clutch.

Best for Apple Products

Away the tech case.

It can fit a boxy universal travel adapter.

The deep shape that takes up twice as much room as other comparable products.

Away’s The Tech Case follows the brand’s reputation of high-quality travel gear that goes big on understated style and function. This soft-sided case is water-resistant and has a spacious dual level design that’s good for storing and organizing bulky tech accessories when traveling. The flip-top zipper closure has three retention bands that are the perfect size for storing USB charging cords and an earbuds case. On the opposite side, there’s a shallow compartment with a mesh panel that unzips, revealing access to a deeper bottom compartment where you can store your laptop charging cable, extension cable, and power brick. We like it because it’s possible to fit a universal plug adapter in this space, making it perfect for international travel. However, at over six inches in depth, it can be tougher to pack simply because of its own bulky shape; so keep that in mind if you’re primarily a carry-on traveler.

The Details: 6.3 x 4.7 x 2.95 inches | 3.7 ounces | Nylon  | Water-resistant

Best Fan-style

Inateck electronics case.

It’s a durable and simple organizer with great capacity.

Since it opens like a book, not all the pockets have security features.

If you’re the type of person who prefers to see all of your items at a glance, consider the Inateck Electronics Organizer Travel Case. It has a unique accordion fan design that opens like a book, neatly exposing its contents. You’ll still get great organization on the inside, too. The large size is approximately the size of a toiletry case and is big enough to fit a Nintendo Switch. The 1200D polyester material is hardy enough to hold up for frequent travelers and makes the bag water-repellent, too. Inside, you’ll find soft and stretchy lycra material with eight various slip pockets, a large velcro-secured pocket, and seven elastic retention straps. Unfortunately, most of the slip pockets do not have elastic rims or security straps, so you’ll want to be sure to have a flat surface since it opens up 180 degrees.

The Details: 10.24 x 3.74 x 5.91 inches | 8.2 ounces | 1200D polyester | Water-repellent

Best Hardside

Procase hard travel electronic organizer case.

The water resistance and shock absorption give us extra piece of mind.

It works best for smaller items that aren’t too bulky.

A hardside case is the way to go when it comes to protecting your most expensive tech accessories. This ProCase Hard Travel Electronics Organizer has a durable, water-resistant EVA shell and shock-absorbing lining that works double time to keep your electronics safe from spills, drops, and splashes. We like the convenient wristlet strap and dual-compartment design. The storage capacity is more than enough, with five zippered mesh pockets and two compression slip pockets. However, it’s not designed to hold bulky items; just smaller tech accessories, which is a bit of a bummer considering the overall size. If you need more space, opt for the large or extra-large versions.

The Details: 9.72 x 5.82 x 2.55 inches | 0.31 ounces | EVA | Water-resistant

Tips for Buying a Travel Tech Organizer

Know what items you need to store.

Take stock of your tech items to make sure your desired tech organizer has the capacity and capability to hold what you need it to. This is particularly important if you’ve got a bulky item or two, or if the majority of your stuff is small and easy to lose. If you’re having trouble finding an organizer that fits your needs, consider what your basic essentials are and what might be able to be safely and securely packed elsewhere. You’ll also want to consider where you’ll be packing the organizer to make sure it’ll fit in your bag while still giving you room to pack anything else you need.

Consider durability and water resistance

Are you a frequent traveler or just preparing for a one-off trip? Frequent travelers will want to pay more attention to the durability of their tech organizer than someone who won’t be using the product repeatedly over a short period of time. Budget-friendly doesn’t always mean poorly-made, as you’ll see with our picks, and products with a higher price point may not deliver when it comes to key things like water resistance. Leather looks great and can look even better over time, but it’s easily ruined by scrapes and exposure to liquid. On the flip side, ripstop material like 600D polyester or EVA won’t look as luxurious but will last much longer and provide better protection against bumps, drops, and spills. Also, consider the quality of your organizer's zipper. This is an oft-overlooked detail that can make or break how much use you can get out of a product. Once the zipper breaks, it’s usually game over.

Storing your tech in one spot while traveling helps you to keep track of it, especially the smaller pieces, while you’re away from home. Using a storage option with built-in organization keeps your sanity. Tossing your essentials into a single-pocket bag is convenient — until you need them, and tech organizers help to avoid the frantic fishing through your luggage for a charger for your portable speaker or that important flash drive. They can also help keep cords from tangling, a major win and frustration saver.

Depending on the size, you can pack your travel tech organizer in your checked bag, carry-on, or personal item. However, many travelers are wary of packing anything valuable like tech in their checked luggage for fear of theft or damage, plus you’ll want to make sure there are no power banks or other devices prohibited from the cargo hold. It’s most common to bring an organizer into the cabin which also allows you to access it during your travel day as needed.

11 best tech essentials for travel, in UAE, for 2024

Best buys electronics.

From smartwatches to Bluetooth trackers, embark on your summer holiday, fully equipped

travel tech

Booked yourself a well-deserved holiday? Congrats! The only thing left to do is pack, and this is where the panic sets in for most of us. There's the pressure to pack light and, yet, still have all your essentials on hand, lest we're stuck with a dead battery far from home. Some travel gadgets, such as Bluetooth transmitters, can help us in unexpected ways, especially if you're not a fan of in-flight headsets. Others make solo travel a little less daunting, when it comes to clicking scenic pictures with you in the frame. It all begins with taking stock of what you already have in your tech bag and preparing for activities planned during the holidays.

We revisited our trending gadgets  from years past, and scoured social media for must-pack items currently on the rise. If someone you know is travelling soon, one of these nifty tools might make a thoughtful gift, too. Shop these best-rated travel tech items from Amazon with a Prime membership, to get them as soon as possible, before you take off.

1. Best Tablet: Apple iPad Pro (Wi-Fi + Cellular, 128GB), Silver

  • Fast M2 processor
  • 5G works well
  • Brilliant 12.9-inch Liquid Retina Extreme Dynamic Range (XDR) screen
  • 12MP front camera always keeps you in the centre
  • Expensive accessories

The 2022 12.9-inch Apple iPad Pro is the latest in the series, and has quickly gained the reputation of being one of the best tablets out there for its elegant design and powerful processor. The lightweight tablet is perfect for travel - you can stream and play games on it with excellent results; it carries an 8-core central processing unit (CPU) for performance and a 10-core graphics processing unit (GPU) for faster graphics. Its Liquid Retina XDR screen delivers extremely vivid, high-quality content - perfect for TV show binge-watching on flights - with brightness levels peaking at 1,600 nits. Hold video chats with loved ones back home, with confidence, through a 12-megapixel selfie camera that moves when you move. Despite its power-hungry features, the Apple iPad Pro can impressively last nine hours of web surfing on a single charge.

Bonus:  Buy with zero per cent instalments and pay Dh354.83 for 12 months with select banks.

Warranty:  Amazon offers a one-year extended warranty for Dh256, a one-year accidental damage protection for Dh427, and a two-year damage protection and one-year extended warranty for Dh545.

2. Best Travel Power Bank: Anker PowerCore+ (26,800mAh)

  • High battery capacity
  • Takes only three and a half hours to recharge
  • Power delivery port for laptops and two USB ports for other devices
  • Includes wall charger and USB-C cable

A power brick is undeniably one of the most important tech gadgets for travelling. With little to no access to outlets and being heavily reliant on the smartphone for pictures, GPS and translating apps, can quickly deplete your smartphone's battery. For travel, make sure the power bank is in your carry-on baggage, to comply with airline regulations. We've repeatedly picked Anker's PowerCore+ 26,800mAh as our best power bank , because it charges a wide range of devices. The 45-watt USB-C power delivery (PD) port is reserved for laptops and two 15-watt ports fuel smartphones and tablets several times over. Reviewers write that they get seven charging cycles for their phone and even use it as a power backup for their DSLR cameras and earbuds. It packs small for travelling and replenishes its own battery using a dedicated wall charger, too. Check out other power banks for travel here .

Warranty: The manufacturer offers an 18-month warranty.

3. Best Smartwatch: Apple Watch Series 8 (GPS + Cellular, 45mm)

  • Call and text from the smartwatch, using cellular connectivity
  • Takes your electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Alerts emergency services in the event of a crash
  • Battery lasts up to 36 hours in low power mode
  • IP6X dust resistance, and swimproof in up to 50 metres of depth
  • Incremental upgrades from the Series 7
  • Best compatibility with iPhones

Make sure you’re always connected and safe on your trip, with the Apple Watch Series 8. The Watch has a number of amazing health features, such as a dedicated ECG app that generates readings incredibly similar to a single-lead electrocardiogram. Another upgrade sees crash detection, where in the event of a car crash, the device instantly alerts the authorities and emergency contacts of your location. Likewise, a hard fall will put you in touch with dispatchers, as well. And if you’re planning to hit 10,000 steps every day at your destination, you're all set to track your goals through the Workout app - it puts your heart rate zone on display and lets you craft your own fitness schedule for the day. The Series 8 also boasts superlative cellular connectivity, so that you can stay connected without the hassle of lugging around a phone. There's more: enjoy the convenience of Apple Pay, built-in GPS (Global Positioning System) and streaming services on your wrist, making the watch a must-have wearable device for iOS users. And, if you're concerned about the battery life, the newly introduced low-power mode keeps the watch on for a whopping 36 hours. Check out other smartwatches .

Bonus:  Buy with zero per cent instalments and pay Dh154.17 for 12 months with select banks.

Warranty:  Amazon offers a one-year extended warranty for Dh108 and a two-year extended warranty for Dh179.

4. Best E-Reader: Kindle Paperwhite

  • Sharp, bright screen
  • Great performance
  • Cloud-based storage
  • Vast e-book store
  • 10-week battery life
  • No adaptive backlight

It’s one of the best e-readers available right now. The Kindle Paperwhite has the same sharp display as its predecessor, with a big, 6.8-inch screen, without a major increase in price. It also features increased RAM (random access memory) for faster performance, along with Amazon’s vast e-book store. Purpose-built for reading in any situation, the Paperwhite has a 300ppi glare-free display that reads like real paper, even in bright sunlight. It's IPX8 waterproof rated, so bring it to the pool or beach without any concerns. Take it with you on long plane or train rides, and it’ll keep you engaged for hours. See other e-readers here.

5. Best Bluetooth Audio Adapter: Twelve South Airfly Pro

  • Can be used in-flight, with games and gym equipment
  • Pairs up to two devices
  • Over 16-hour battery life
  • Doesn't support microphone on audio devices, say reviews

If you have wireless gadgets that rely on Bluetooth connectivity, get the Airfly Pro audio transmitter or adapter. This tool is a portable bridge that links your wireless headphones to an entertainment system that doesn't support Bluetooth pairing. It's going to come in handy on flights, where wired headsets are usually supplied for streaming movies and music. Plug the Airfly Pro into the system and pair it with your wireless device - this way you get to keep your own headphones on. The charge lasts up to 16 hours, so you're all set for long flights. Reviews say the audio quality is undisturbed and clear.

6. Best Noise-Cancelling Headphones: Sony WH 1000XM5 Noise Cancelling Wireless Headphones

  • HD noise-cancelling processor with eight mics
  • 30-hour battery life
  • Voice assistant compatible
  • Wireless and wired
  • Minimalistic design
  • Case is bulky
  • Maximum volume is low for some reviewers

Tune out the world in a pair of solid ear cans that actively cancel ambient noise on-flight. You could opt for any noise-cancelling over-ear headphones, but this Sony pair has garnered quite the fan-following on the internet. The WH-1000XM5 have a padded build, so they sit snug on your head as you doze off, free from any sharp edges to affect your sleep quality. Reviewers attest to the active noise cancellation, which the gadget does via a high-definition processor and eight mics. The battery lasts for 30 hours, and even if it runs out of charge, the provided audio cable keeps the music on. Plus, these are super flattering and give you hours of charge in just three minutes. Have a look at other over-ear headphones here .

Bonus: Buy with zero per cent instalments and pay Dh93.17 for 12 months with select banks.

Warranty: Amazon offers a one-year extended warranty for Dh69 and a two-year extended warranty for Dh113.

7. Best Instant Camera: Fujifilm Instax Mini 11

  • Slim, fun design
  • Built-in flash for good low-light shots
  • Includes Selfie Mode
  • Available in several stylish colours
  • Flash cannot be turned off

If you love a retro vibe, you’ll love the Instax Mini 11 - this instant film camera creates high-quality photos with a nostalgic flare. Just click, and you’ll receive an instant, credit card-sized print. The latest rendition of the camera features an automatic exposure function that no longer needs manual adjustment for different lighting functions. It also has an in-built flash that works great in low-light conditions. There’s even a Selfie Mode, which allows the camera lens barrel to extend for a close-up shot. Reviewers do caution that the flash cannot be turned off, so watch out for overexposed shots when you’re outdoors. Still, this instant camera is a fun way to make memories on every trip!

Warranty: Amazon offers a one-year extended warranty for Dh18 and a two-year extended warranty for Dh29.

8. Best Travel Adapter: Promate Travel Adapter

  • Two USB-C ports
  • Smaller than most travel adapters
  • Compatible with 150 countries
  • Charging slows down when too many devices connected, reviewers say

A travel adapter will help you stay connected no matter where you go, especially if you're hopping continents. The Promate universal travel adapter works in 150 countries, and has two USB-C ports. It's capable of converting voltage, too, so you can use your hair tools, grooming gadgets and more worry-free. With a quick-charge USB-A Port, dual USB-C power delivery ports, and one AC Socket TripMate-GaN65, it can charge three devices and power one appliance simultaneously. Reviews say it's compact by design, although charging slows down when too many devices are connected.

9. Best Smartphone Gimbal: DJI OM 4 SE Handheld Stabiliser

  • Gesture to remotely click selfies
  • Folds small for storage
  • 15-hour battery life
  • Tripod included
  • Multiple filming modes
  • Better optimised for iPhones, according to reviews

Add a pro's touch to your travel videos and pictures, with a gimbal stabiliser. Daring adventurers and city tourists, alike, appreciate shake-free shots to document their travels, and this handheld accessory elevates every frame to pro levels. The DJI OM SE is our number-one smartphone gimbal of 2022, for the array of filming features it offers - from dolly zoom to time-lapse. Whether you're moving back and forth, up and down or side to side, the 3-axis gimbal latches onto your phone and records steady footage. The included tripod stand helps you take group pictures with family and friends - all you have to do is gesture at the gadget to trigger the controls. Reviews say it even doubles as a power bank. However, most Android users do point out that the app isn't Android-friendly. Browse more stabilisers for your phone here .

10. Best Bluetooth Tracker: Tile Pro (2022), 4-Pack

  • Bluetooth range of 120 metres
  • Reverse tracker - finds phone for you
  • Loudest Tile tracker yet
  • Replaceable battery
  • Battery lasts one year

Bluetooth trackers have been on the rise, because they let travellers keep tabs on their checked luggage and cabin bags. If you're travelling to a busy destination or just want to take extra precautions, a pack of Tile Pro trackers would be a worthwhile investment. While the more popular AirTag by Apple is exclusively tied to iOS, the Tile trackers work with both Android and iOS devices. Toss it into a bag and the tracker alerts you from up to 120 metres away. Once the tracker is out of the Bluetooth range, it'll use other Tile users in the vicinity to track down where your item was last seen. Buyers say the alarm on the Tile tracker is loud enough to be heard from a packed suitcase, and handful others attest to finding a lost checked baggage at the airport.

Warranty: Amazon offers a one-year extended warranty for Dh23 and a two-year extended warranty for Dh33.

11. Best Tech Kit: Native Union Stow Organiser

Protect your smaller tech items, like a phone charger, USB cables, earbuds and microSD cards, in a dedicated tech pouch. The Native Union travel organiser comes in five different colours, packs small and looks stylish with genuine leather accents. Inside, you'll find elastic loops, flexible pockets and a zippered compartment for flash drives. On the outside, an exterior easy-access pocket fits your smartphone or travel documents. Buyers love the hidden compartments and use the kit to store their Apple products when travelling. There's little chance of misplacing your everyday tech essentials with a pouch, since you'll always know where to look first.

5 tax-free countries for freelance digital nomads in 2024.

Being a digital nomad allows you to explore the world while cutting costs

Approximately 70 million Americans express a desire to become digital nomads, with 24 million saying it's a definite positive, and the remainder indicating it is a likely consideration for 2024, according to an MBO Partners report .

Digital nomadism is appealing for so many reasons: you're able to work from the comfort of a deck chair, armchair, plane seat, or cafe chair, it's entirely up to you; you can explore new cultures and food, fully embrace the flexibility that freelancing brings, and take time out for yourself to experience a change every now and then and take care of your wellbeing—all while getting the job done.

What freelancer wouldn't want to be a digital nomad?

One of the top considerations one must factor in when deciding to become a digital nomad and obtain a digital nomad visa, is where they will fall in the tax bracket for foreign freelancing income in their host country.

What some people may not realize is that there are at least five digital nomad destinations that are tax-free for digital nomads, and are also budget-friendly, meaning you can gain more value out of your money, even though the cost of living is generally high in the U.S.

Let's take a look at these top five countries who have thrown open their doors to digital nomads, and why they make for appealing attractions. Kasra Dash, entrepreneur and founder of accountancy firm TaxBite , weighs in and shares his evaluation of each country—and its freelancer-friendliness—below. (Some parts have been edited for clarity and length.)

Best High-Yield Savings Accounts Of 2024

Best for cost-effective Caribbean living, and known for its Friendly Nations Visa, Panama offers a straightforward pathway to residency for citizens from many countries.

While not completely tax-free, Panama does not tax foreign-sourced income, which can benefit digital nomads. The country has one of the cheapest standards of living in the Caribbean, meaning you can live the island life at a fraction of the price.

2. U.A.E (United Arab Emirates)

The UAE offers a 0% income tax rate for individuals, making it a highly attractive option for remote workers, and the best for financial professionals in particular. The country also has specific visas for digital nomads, allowing them to live and work there while enjoying the tax benefits.

Applicants will need to prove employment with a company outside the UAE and have a minimum monthly salary of $5,000. This can be shown through a contract valid for at least one year, recent salary slips, or bank statements from the last three months.

3. Costa Rica

Costa Ricans, or "Ticos", are known for their friendly and welcoming nature. The culture emphasises "pura vida" (pure life), promoting a relaxed and positive lifestyle that many remote workers find appealing for their wellbeing.

The country provides various residency options that are friendly to digital nomads, and like Panama, does not impose levies on foreign-sourced income.

4. Malaysia

Through its MM2H program (Malaysia My Second Home), Malaysia offers long-term residency options and does not tax foreign-sourced income, making it a favourable option for many nomads.

Malaysia is the best option for travel opportunities as it serves as a strategic base for travelling to other parts of Asia. Its central location offers convenient travel opportunities to neighbouring countries like Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Like the UAE, Bahrain imposes no personal income tax and is considered one of the more liberal countries in the Gulf region, providing a good base for digital nomads.

Bahrain provides a high quality of life with its vibrant cultural scene, historic sites, as well as a wide variety of dining and entertainment options. It also offers excellent healthcare facilities, which is an important consideration for anyone planning to live and work remotely.

It's essential to note that due to its proximity within the Middle East, travel advisories state that you should exercise a high degree of caution and plan your travel carefully to Bahrain, keeping a close eye on tensions and war in the nearby regions. Be flexible with your travel arrangements.

The future of your work is how you shape it

What will be your next destination of choice this year?

Rambler Tumbler

Easiest to Clean

Yeti rambler tumbler.

But, what's the difference between a tumbler and a water bottle ? Tumblers usually have a larger mouth and a wider shape that resembles a cup, versus a narrow bottle. While water bottles are easiest to clean when used with water, tumblers are designed to hold a variety of different hot and cold beverages. Some have handles and small spouts for sipping, while others boast straws that stay in place or fold down for travel.

In the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab, our team of experts tests thousands of beverage-related products every year. Over the past couple of months, I personally tested over 40 tumblers. I also worked with our consumer testers to get their feedback on how much they liked using their tumblers in real-life scenarios. Here are the tumblers that excelled in temperature retention, ease of use, versatility and so much more.

The CamelBak Thrive Mug was out best tested tumbler for its great insulation and durability. After 24 hours, I found that the water still remained cold and when dropped from our drop tester it didn't dent or spill all over me or my colleague. It features a comfortable, easy-to-grip handle and a lid with a small spout and closure. The base has a non-slip material that consumer testers have told me is great when they're trying to be extra quiet around sleeping family members. The lid easily screws on and off the tumbler, which is much easier than other pull-off lids I've tested.

The lid leaked a tiny bit when the tumbler was pushed over in our leak test. It was easy to clean up, but something to keep in mind if having a leak-proof tumbler is important to you.

We also tested the Camelbak Thrive Tumbler , which is a smaller, more affordable option, without a handle. This model tested just as well as the the Thrive Mug.

Simple Modern's tumblers have tested well in our Lab tests and conveniently are also affordable. This model from Simple Modern comes with two different lids — a leak-proof lid (as confirmed in Lab testing) and another lid with a straw — so it's perfect for people like me who sometimes wants to use it for iced coffee and sometimes for hot coffee. I just suggest holding on to it well because the bottom did dent quite a bit, with some paint chipping when dropped in our Lab tests.

This tumbler is also compatible with a cocktail shaker lid that is sold separately, but adds even more versatility to this model. While we only tested the 20-ounce option for this story, it also comes in three other sizes: 16-, 24- and 28-ounces in a variety of fun colorways and patterns to choose from.

BrüMate's leak-proof tumbler ensures that you won't drop a single drop of your coffee even if you throw it into your backpack on a long commute. It features a lid with a lock that gives you (and especially people like me!) peace of mind on your commute. I thought it was comfortable to sip out of and the handle offers a comfortable grip. The bottom of the tumbler is tapered to ensure that it will fit inside your car's cupholder.

In our Lab tests, this tumbler got perfect scores in the drop and leak tests. The lid took me a bit of practice to remove from the tumbler since the pieces have to be properly aligned, but I figured it out after a couple of tries thanks to the packaging stickers BrüMate provides.

This insulated tumbler from Owala comes in a variety of fun colorways and offers two ways to drink from it: with the included straw or sip mode through the lid. Out of all the tumblers I've tried, I really like drinking water out of this at my desk because it holds a lot of water and is comfortable to use and hold. I also like using it for my iced coffee. It peformed relatively well in temperature retention over a 24-hour time period, but kept its ice over the course of an entire workday.

Owala's Insulated Travel Tumbler performed well in other Lab tests as well. The straw didn't leak when the tumbler was hit on its side, unlike other tumblers with straws that leaked all over the place. Keep in mind that if you do turn the tumbler upside down it will leak. And there was only a slight dent on the tumbler after drop testing.

I tested nine different wine tumblers to determine the best wine tumbler for this story and the Contigo River North Wine Tumbler tested best overall . It's lightweight (6.1-ounces) and easy to grasp in your hand. It received high scores in drop testing, it didn't dent nor did the lid come off after all three drops and leaked only a tiny bit during leak testing.

Instead of water, each wine tumbler was tested with chilled wine in our Lab. This tumbler has a small spout and is easy to sip from; if you prefer to sip from it without the lid, you can do that as well. Like other wine tumblers we tested, the insulation of this tumbler wasn't as good as larger tumblers, so sip your wine quickly (but that isn't the worse problem you could have).

The HydroJug Traveler is a large, 40-ounce tumbler that features a straw that folds down when you're not drinking from it, which proved to be leak-proof in our tests. (It's actually one of the only 40-ounce tumblers I tested that's leak-proof.) It didn't leak in our drop test, where we drop the tumbler from a height of three feet, but it did dent. I love that with such a large capacity, I don't need to refill this tumbler often to meet my daily hydration goals.

"I prefer that the lid is see-through, so you can easily see what's inside the cup without unscrewing the top," said one tester who also appreciated the HydroJug's rubber base, which makes it less prone to falling over on certain surfaces.

The Stanley IceFlow Stainless Steel Tumbler comes in four different sizes from 20-ounces to a whopping 96-ounces and over 30 different colorways. In our Lab tests it didn't leak at all, receiving a high score, but it did dent a bit from drop testing. While my colleagues and I really like the Stanley Quencher H2.0 FlowState Tumbler , a.k.a. the Stanley cup, which has tested well in our Labs, we think this is a great option for those who love to travel thanks to its leak-proof straw, tapered bottom and comfortable handle.

"I love that it has a higher capacity than most water bottles, but still fits in the same cup holders thanks to its shape, perfect for road trips, air travel and hiking ," said one tester. They went on to say that the handle is useful and easy to hold and how convenient it is that the straw easily flips up and down; "it’s all the appeal of the iconic Stanley cup made easy for travelers."

RELATED: Stanley vs. Yeti: Which Tumbler Is Better?

The Yeti Rambler Tumbler is an easy-to-hold and durable tumbler (no dents in drop testing) that comes in various sizes and colorways to match your style and beverage preference.

On the brand's website you can even customize your tumbler by engraving your own uploaded design, monogram or more onto the back or front of your tumbler. (I engraved one for my mom for Mother's Day!) We've tested various capacities of this tumbler, but we're especially fond of the 20-ounce version which is great for transporting your morning coffee, a smoothie or even just for keeping water at your desk.

The Yeti MagSlider lid makes it easy to open and close the drinking spout and to remove the closure for easy cleaning. Better yet? All pieces are dishwasher-safe. Keep in mind that if you accidentally drop this tumbler, the MagSlider may fall off (it did in a drop test) and spill your beverage, so be careful when transporting.

The Competition: Other tumblers we tested

line break

While these tumblers might not be for everyone, we think they're also solid options for certain needs and preferences:

•Looking for a ceramic-lined option? W&P Porter Insulated Tumbler features a comfortable non-slip silicone sleeve that prevented the tumbler from denting during drop testing, but it didn't have the best temperature retention.

•A compact ceramic-lined option? Fellow Carter Cold Travel Mug comes in a variety of neutral colorways and has rather good insulation, but it's a little small compared to most of the ones I tested.

•A small tumbler with a fold down straw? Pelican Hydration Pelican Traveler is a small 22-ounce option with a fold down straw and a leak-proof seal that was a little hard to clean.

•An option with a stainless steel straw? Corkcicle Cold Cup Insulated Tumbler was rather durable in testing and comes in a variety of fun colorways. A couple of consumer testers thought the straw was hard to drink out of.

•Interested in a hot and cold option? Hydro Flask All Around Tumbler can hold either hot or cold beverages and is compatible with a straw lid or a closeable lid, which is nice, but I found during testing that it came off a little too easily.

How we test tumblers

line break

In the Good Housekeeping Institute Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab, we evaluate each piece of drinkware for leakage, temperature retention, durability and more.

We've tested thousands of pieces of drinkware over the last couple of decades. In our latest round, I tested over 40 tumblers, including 17 Stanley cup dupes side-by-side to evaluate performance and ease of use.

an owala tumbler on a drop tester about to be dropped

To determine each model's durability, we use our drop-tester machine ( pictured ) to drop each cup at a height of three feet — twice with the cup standing upright and once with it on its side.

To assess temperature retention, every tumbler is filled to maximum capacity with water. We then remove a specific amount of water from each tumbler, replacing it with a calculated amount of ice.

The internal water temperature of each tumbler is documented eight times over 30 hours to determine which dupes retain temperature best.

a tumbler leaking on a paper towel

To test leakage, we fill each tumbler with the same amount of water and food dye. We knock over each tumbler and let it sit on its side for 30 seconds, then we check to see if any water seeps through its straw or lid.

To evaluate ease of use, we consider how each tumbler opens and closes. Using either a dishwasher or dish soap and a brush, we test how easy it is to clean each model.

In addition to Lab tests, we send tumblers to consumer testers to get their opinions on how they fare in real life. When it came to tumblers, we had over 60 consumer testers provide valuable testing insight.

What to look for when buying a tumbler

line break

✔️ Hot versus cold: While some tumblers can hold hot and cold beverages, some are specifically designed for one temperature of beverage over the other. Models with straws tend to only be for cold beverages, while tumblers with small spouts are ideal for slowly sipping hot coffee or tea.

✔️ Size: Tumblers range in capacity from a small 8-ounce for drinking a double shot of espresso to a large 42-ounce for staying hydrated. After you've determined what you would like to hold in your tumbler, think about how much of that liquid you'll want to drink and use that as a guide for selecting the right size for you. ✔️ Materials: If you want your cold beverage to stay chilled and your hot beverage to remain hot, select a tumbler with an insulated material. Insulated tumblers are usually made from double or triple walled stainless steel. All picks on this list are made out of this and some have a plastic lid. ✔️ Ease of drinking: Tumblers usually offer one of two drinking methods. Those designed for cold drinks boast straws, while those for hot beverages have small spouts for sipping. Some tumblers also have two types of lids so you can switch it up based on your beverage. ✔️ Handle: About half of the tumblers we've tested have a handle. Handles make for easier carrying by hand, but might not allow you to carry your tumbler in a backpack pocket or car cupholder, depending on the tumbler. Think about how you will be transporting or not transporting your tumbler before determining which model is right for you. ✔️ Leak-resistance: Do you want to throw your tumbler into your backpack or simply put it into your car cup holder? This determines how important leak resistance if for your lifestyle. There are some leak resistant picks on this list that ensure peace of mind, but if that's not as important to you there are other good picks as well that may leak if dropped accidentally. ✔️ Cleanability: All tumblers should be cleaned regularly to eliminate bacteria and prevent mold growth. If a tumbler must be hand-washed, use a bottle brush to thoroughly clean the interior with soap and warm water. If a tumbler has a straw, we recommend that you hand-wash it for a thorough clean, even if the tumbler states that it is dishwasher-safe. If you're not a fan of using a bottle brush to clean a tumbler, ensure that it’s dishwasher-safe before purchasing. The dishwasher's tough environment can deform the seal on tumblers that aren't dishwasher-safe and ruin the exterior over time, so always check if a tumbler is dishwasher-safe.

Which tumbler keeps ice longest?

line break

In general, we found insulated water bottles to keep ice longer than some insulated tumblers that don't have airtight lids . We determined through testing that the larger the water capacity of the tumbler, like a Stanley cup dupe, the better the ice retention. Our best overall pick from Camelbak had excellent temperature retention, holding ice longer than other picks on this list.

Hi @Heidi F

I just had a look online and it seems that it might be a struggle!

There is plenty of options in online-shops:

I have found this:

https://www.auchan.ru/pokupki/adapt-pereh-k-d-mezhdun-rozetok.html - Probably really low quality, but very cheap

Other online options:

https://nano-pad.ru/perehodnik-vilka-dlya-rozetok.html

http://moskva.regmarkets.ru/universalnye-adaptery-dlya-rozetok/

However, if you need it urgently I would suggest going to Phone and electronics stores (such as Svyaznoy, Mvideo, etc.) in City Centre Moscow and asking in store.

There is a chain of stores called Moshoztorg. Their flagship is right on Tverskaya not far from the Ritz. They have all kinds of home appliances.

Thanks everyone for your replies. You would think that every big electronic store would have them, but not so. I am living here, not a tourist. I've looked at Auchan (which has everything) and in the underground kiosks, keep seeing usb adaptors but not pin to pin. The one I have been using for my Aussie electronics has broken and its urgent. Buying something online is not an option :(.

gogorussia_com, that first link of yours is pretty much exactly what I need. I've been to the auchan near Lenninsky Prospect metro. They didn't have them in stock. Just available online maybe?

I would second hitting "cell phone" type stores...as mentioned Svyaznoi or my favorite Evroset. Barring that, I have wandered thru a very electronics store at the Erevan Plaza shopping center right above the Tulskaya Metro station, that seemed to have everything, but am guessing there are many others. I have to believe they would have something like this.

top travel electronics

Auchan at Leninskiy Prospect might have this at travel department upstairs, where travel bags are. There is also a Svyaznoy and Evroset stores in the shopping center.

Come to think of it, think I saw a pretty good range of adaptors even at a small kiosk at Paveletski Station...I think the key is indeed hitting some places more aimed at travelers...

Okay, today I went back to Auchan at Leninsky Prospect and looked near the luggage. Some different travel gear but no adaptors.

I then went into Mvideo and spoke with them. They do not stock this kind of thing. I looked for Svyaznoy and Evroset in Gagarinsky mall. Couldn't find them. As a back up I bought a new cord for my camera battery charger. It actually fits and is working!

Thanks again to those of you who gave advice. I hope future TripAdvisor posters that come across this thread will have better luck finding a universal adaptor here!

Bissell little green machine cleaner.

Bissell Little Green Cleaner

Bissell Little Green Cleaner

4.5-star average rating from 80,185 reviews on Amazon

This is not the lowest price we’ve seen for this cleaner, but we included it because it's an NBC Select Pet Awards winner and expert-recommended portable carpet cleaner . NBC Select updates editor Mili Godio has used it for years on her carpets and upholstered furniture — it comes in handy when her 16-pound Havachon tracks dirt in the house. “It’s amazing to see the difference in color after using it, especially when I clean my carpet,” she says.

Traeger Grills Pro 575 Electric Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker

Traeger Grills Pro 575 Electric Wood Pellet Grill and Smoker

4.7-star average rating from 1,971 reviews on Amazon

This electric model — which you can use as a grill, smoker, roaster or BBQ — is one of their smallest and a good fit for beginners who don’t want to deal with gas or charcoal. It has a cooking area of 575 square inches — in food terms, that’s about four chickens or five racks of ribs, according to the brand. You can control the grill manually or with your smartphone through the Traeger app .

Dyson V8 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Dyson V8 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

4.3-star average rating from 2,312 reviews on Amazon

Dyson makes some of the best vacuums for hardwood and carpets . One of their lowest priced models, it comes with a large head that picks up debris on all floor types, a crevice tool to get to hard-to-reach areas and more. You can easily convert it into a handheld vacuum, too, by taking off the central pole, something I often do to clean my couch.

It may not have all the bells and whistles  newer versions have (like an LED screen or illuminating dust light), but it costs much less.

This NBC Select Wellness Award winner is one of the best sunrise alarm clocks — it combines light and sound to mimic a sunrise, gently encouraging you to wake up, says Malin. Samsonite Freeform Hardshell Carry-On

4.5-star average rating from 12,465 reviews on Amazon

That’s because it’s relatively light weight at 6.5 pounds, expandable up to one inch and has four wheels for extra maneuverability. It also has an ID tag and TSA-compatible combination lock built in. It comes in multiple colors — I recommend one that is easy to spot at baggage claim, just in case you have an unexpected gate check.

Apple iPad Air (5th Gen) (256GB)

4.8-star average rating from 13,021 reviews on Amazon

Apple’s 5th generation iPad Air matches its lowest price ever, likely because the brand released new iPads earlier this month. The iPad Air is one of my favorite tablets : it has a bright screen, loud stereo speakers on each side, and more than enough speed to tackle any task I throw at it. Plus, it’s compact and easy to travel with.

The cheaper 64GB version may be out of stock, but this upgraded 256GB is still available on Amazon.

Roku Streaming Stick 4K

Roku Streaming Stick 4K

4.7-star average rating from 74,807 reviews on Amazon

I’ve used a lot of streaming devices — Roku is consistently the easiest to install and use. It’s why it’s the first option I recommend to friends and family, especially if they are not tech-savvy. Apple Airpods (2nd Gen)

Apple AirPods (2nd Gen)

Apple AirPods (2nd Gen)

4.7-star average rating from 614,990 reviews on Amazon

I see AirPods everywhere, and for good reason: if you own an iPhone, they are some of the most convenient wireless earbuds available. They pair effortlessly across Apple devices, and support Apple features like voice controls with Siri. They also have a semi-open fit, no rubber eartip blocking your ear canal. While they are comfortable, they don’t block or have any noise cancellation . The buds and charging case combined have over 24 hours of battery life, according to the brand.

Anker 735 65W USB Wall Charger

Anker 735 65W USB Wall Charger

Anker 735 65W USB Wall Charger

I bought this wall charger during Black Friday last year because I have way too many little single-plug power bricks in my house that aren’t strong enough to quickly charge my laptop , earbuds or headphones. This one is: it has 65W of power across three USB ports, which is more than enough to charge any small gadget.

LG B3 Series 65" OLED TV

LG B3 Series 65" OLED TV

LG is one of the best TV brands — this is our favorite budget option it makes. It has a 4K OLED screen with wide viewing angles, vivid colors and deep contrast, perfect for big groups watching sports or movies in a darker theater room.

Revlon One Step Volumizer Plus 2.0

Revlon One Step Volumizer Plus 2.0

4.6-star average rating from 480,890 reviews on Amazon

The 1.0 version of this tool is one of our favorite hair dryers because it lets you dry, brush and style your hair at the same time. The large, oval-shaped brush has airflow vents throughout, right alongside nylon and tufted bristles that are designed to detangle and create volume, according to the brand. Ukraine-Russia war latest: French instructors in Ukraine would be 'legitimate target', Lavrov says on visit to West Africa

Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, is on a tour in West Africa as part of a diplomatic push by the isolated Kremlin to forge new ties around the world. Meanwhile, an upcoming summit on Ukraine will reportedly aim to create a pathway for Russian officials to join future talks.

Wednesday 5 June 2024 19:00, UK

  • Live reporting by Guy Birchall

We're pausing our coverage for today but we will be back tomorrow with more updates.

Here is a rundown of the key developments today:

  • Ukraine has used American weapons to strike inside Russia, according to an unnamed Western source;
  • Joe Biden will hold talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Normandy this week during his visit celebrating the 80th anniversary of D-Day;
  • Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov has been visiting countries in Africa as part of an ongoing diplomatic offensive from the Kremlin;
  • A former British defence attache has warned Russia's disinformation campaigns are "only going to get worse" as EU parliament elections and the Olympics approach.

You can scroll back through the blog to read all our updates from today.

A 26-year-old man of dual Ukrainian-Russian nationality has been arrested in possession of explosives after some of them detonated in a hotel room north of Paris.

The man was treated by fire-fighters after he "suffered significant burns following an explosion," on Monday, according to a source.

A source at the French anti-terror prosecutor's office said they had taken charge of the case and opened an investigation on suspicion of a terrorist conspiracy.

A subsequent search of his room led to the discovery of products and materials intended for the manufacture of explosive devices, the source added.

France's domestic spy agency DGSI is handling the investigation, Reuters reports.

Ukraine has used American weapons to strike inside Russia in recent days, according to a Western official.

The weapons were used under recently approved guidance from Joe Biden, allowing US arms to be used to strike inside Russia in defence of Kharkiv, Ukraine's second city.

The official spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity.

Mr Biden's directive allows for US-supplied weapons to be used to strike Russian forces that are attacking or preparing to attack.

It does not change US policy that directs Ukraine not to use American-provided tactical or long-range missiles and other munitions to make offensive strikes inside Russia, US officials said.

Ukrainian officials had stepped up calls on the US to allow Kyiv's forces to defend themselves against attacks originating from Russian territory.

Kharkiv is 12 miles from the Russian border and has recently come under intensified Russian attack.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in Qatar for talks with the state's emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The Ukrainian president said on X that he planned to discuss Qatar's participation in a process of returning Ukrainian children abducted by Russia, as well as bilateral economic and security issues.

In March, Ukraine and Russia exchanged six children via Qatari mediation.

Earlier this week, Mr Zelenskyy made a surprise trip to the Philippines to thank the country for agreeing to participate in the upcoming peace summit being held in Switzerland.

A Russian-American man has been sentenced by a St Petersburg court to three-and-a-half years in prison on charges of "rehabilitating Nazism".

Yuri Malev was arrested in December over social media posts in which he was alleged to have denigrated the Saint George's ribbon, a Russian military symbol of valour.

One post reportedly contained "obscene language" and another other showed a picture of a corpse wearing the ribbon, captioned: "How to wear the Saint George's ribbon correctly".

The court in St Petersburg said this showed disrespect for society and insulted the memory of the Great Patriotic War (the Russian name for the Second World War).

Malev admitted guilt, according to the court.

He was a graduate of the law faculty of St Petersburg University and had lived in the United States since 1991, according to independent Russian language media.

Baza, a Telegram channel with links to Russian authorities, said Malev was a resident of Brooklyn, New York.

He reportedly entered Russia by bus from Estonia two weeks before he was arrested.

Moscow routinely refers to the government in Kyiv as a "Nazi regime", despite Volodymyr Zelenskyy being Jewish.

Ukraine has been allowed to shoot down Moscow's planes over Russian territory with American weapons since the war broke out, the White House has clarified.

Ukraine "can shoot down Russian aeroplanes that pose an impending threat", national security spokesman John Kirby said.

"And they have. They have since the beginning of the war."

The clarification was given due to confusion over Washington’s recent decision to relax rules on US-supplied weapons striking military targets on Russian soil.

Joe Biden gave authorisation for the strikes on a limited basis to help Kyiv defend itself against Kremlin forces advances towards Kharkiv.

Mr Kirby said he could not confirm reports that Ukraine had used US-supplied weapons on Russian territory for the first time.

He told reporters: "We're just not in a position on a day-to-day basis of knowing exactly what the Ukrainians are firing at what.

"It's certainly at a tactical level. So, I can't confirm that. I can tell you that they understand the guidance that they've been given."

By Ivor Bennett, Moscow correspondent

Sergei Lavrov's trip to Africa is part of an ongoing diplomatic offensive by the Kremlin, running in parallel to its conflict in Ukraine.

Isolated from the West, Russia is trying to forge new ties and has found fertile ground in Africa.

There have been several coups in recent years that have ushered in anti-Western military juntas.

US troops were kicked out of Niger, for example, while the French had to leave Burkina Faso.

In both cases, Moscow was quick to move in as the new security guarantors, and their efforts clearly don't stop there.

This is the veteran foreign minister Lavrov's ninth visit to the continent since Russia invaded Ukraine.

Kenya, Burundi and South Africa were among his stops last year; this week it's Guinea, Congo and Burkina Faso.

In return for military support, Russia gains an ally - they may not support the war, but they won't criticise it either.

The Kremlin portrays this as the formation of a new world order, free from Western imperialism and hegemony.

But others say Russia are the neo-colonialists, painting this as a blatant attempt to expand their sphere of influence.

Ukraine's first deputy foreign minister has held talks with his Chinese counterpart in an effort to increase cooperation between the two countries, the Ukrainian ministry said.

Ukraine's Andriy Sybiha also told Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong that he hoped China would participate in a Ukraine-led peace summit later in June.

Mr Sybiha added that it could be "a good opportunity to make a practical contribution to achieving a just and lasting peace", the Ukrainian foreign ministry said.

A report earlier today (see 7.40am post) said that June's peace summit opened doors to "limited talks with Russia" - despite Russian officials not being invited.

Earlier we brought you news that Ukraine said it had shot down 22 of the 27 Shahed-type drones launched by Russia overnight (see 8.04am post).

Now photographs have emerged of the aftermath of one of the strikes.

Firefighters work to put out the massive blaze in the Poltava region.

As Russia opens a new front on Ukraine's northeastern border, the war has entered an important phase.

Readers have been sending in their questions to our senior correspondents and military experts for their take on the changing battlefield environment.

Today, Trevor Prew asks:

Are there any signs of an underground Russian resistance operating inside Russia, or can Russians openly criticize Putin, as long as they don't protest on the streets or mention the war.

Russia correspondent Ivor Bennett says:

In a word, no.

There wasn't much opposition to speak of in Russia even before the war, but now there's nothing left whatsoever.

All of Putin's political opponents are either exiled, jailed or dead, as are those with any connections to Alexei Navalny.

Those who dare to speak out are silenced.

At one end, are the long-time critics and opposition activists, like Vladimir Kara-Murza, the dual Russian-British national opposition who is serving a 25-year prison sentence for treason.

But at the other end are ordinary Russians, like the former schoolteacher Nikita Tushkanov sentenced to 5.5 years for comments he made online about Putin.

The crackdown on dissent seemingly knows no bounds and it's created a climate in which those who oppose the war are terrified to speak out.

They do exist - as evidenced by the huge turnout for Navalny's funeral. But that was a unique moment and is unlikely to be repeated anytime soon.
