I was just 14 years old at the time and got to ride as a pillion with an older acquaintance. This one short ride influenced my every decision in terms of the bikes I want to own. As of today I’m 26 years old and a proud owner of a Yamaha Fz15 version 2.0 and a Kawasaki Ninja 650 2014 model having clocked a decent 30k Kms only while touring, waiting to clock 1000s more as riding makes me feel whole again after enduring the dismal routines of life. Tata has brought the Safari name back with its latest model, which is a seven-seat derivative of the Harrier. Unlike previous Safaris, which used ladder-frame chassis and traditional, rear-biased 4x4, the new one uses Land Rover's D8 platform (OmegaArc in Tata parlance) and is front-wheel-drive only. It's powered by a 170hp FCA-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine, which can be had with either a six-speed manual or six-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox.

The new generation Tata Safari might not be an out-and-out off-roader four-wheel-drive SUV like its predecessor versions. However, the SUV still feels desirable with its dynamic looks, rugged mechanical underpinnings and a feature-loaded cabin which is immensely comfortable.

The new Tata Safari has one of the most refined and tractable diesel engines in the form of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder oil burner. Available with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox options, the engine is good enough to produce maximum power and torque outputs of 170bhp and 350Nm.

The Tata Safari is the flagship product from Tata Motors, which has might and power written all over it.
