President of The DIS Releases Statement Regarding Recent Allegations [Update]

Please be aware that this is a personal statement! Corey Martin, President of the DIS, has released a statement regarding recent allegations that have come to light about Pete Werner. 

You can read what Martin posted on the DIS Boards in full below: 

“As an individual member of this team, I find it necessary to make a personal statement regarding the current situation. I want to clarify that this statement is not an official communication on behalf of the company; rather it reflects my personal thoughts and feelings on the matter. 

The recent allegations have deeply impacted us all. We are facing a challenging and sensitive situation that has left many of us in shock and disbelief. As a team, we are doing our best to navigate and process this new information while also striving to continue with our responsibilities to the best of our abilities. 

It is important to acknowledge that these allegations have resulted in unwarranted attacks on some of us and our families online. Such behaviour is unacceptable and I urge everyone to treat each other with respect and empathy during this difficult time. It is crucial to remember that each team member not involved in the situation deserves the space and process ad cope without undue interference. 

I understand that people may have varying opinions and emotions regarding this issue, and I respect that. However, I kindly request that you allow us the time and privacy we need while we await an official response. 

In the meantime, I want to assure everyone that we remain committed to fulfilling our job responsibilities, and the show will go on. We understand the importance of transparency and accountability, and we trust that the appropriate measures will be taken by the company to address the situation appropriately. 

Thank you for understanding and respecting our need for privacy during this challenging time.”

In addition to Martin’s statement, Disboards user ainswokp has posted a screenshot of what appears to be a statement from Craig Williams, Video Producer for the DIS/DIS Unplugged. You can read what Williams wrote below: 

“The turn is the team found out about the allegations the same way others discovered the information. I can speak for our team when I say we are all still processing because this is a very complicated matter. Silence isn’t the way, and you, the Patreon supporters, as well as all listeners and watchers of the DIS Unplugged deserve more. I’m sorry for any trust we may have broken. None of us thought we’d ever be in this position, and I just ask for your patience while we work through this ourselves. 

We will have more to say soon. Thank you to those who continue to support us as well as those who have made the decision to move on.”

“Effective immediately, Peter Werner has resigned his position as CEO of Dreams Unlimited Travel, Inc. and as Owner/Editor-in-Chief of The DIS (as well as all related websites and properties). 

John Magi, President and Co-Owner of Dreams Unlimited Travel, will continue to run the day-to-day operations of Dreams Unlimited Travel, Inc. and assume the CEO responsibilities as well. 

Corey Martin, the President of The Dis, will maintain his role with both The DIS and its affiliated sites while taking on executive responsibilities. Mr. Werner’s ownership interest in the above businesses is currently being divested.”

“By now I’m sure most of you have seen my blog post about Pete’s departure from Dreams Unlimited Travel and the DIS. If not you can read it here . 

I know many of you want my official take on the situation. Due to legalities and under the advice of council I am not permitted to comment on the allegations. I may be able to say more in the future but I can’t as of right now. 

I can say that Dreams Unlimited Travel and The DIS both have incredible teams of people working for and with us. We are a very strong organisation and we will continue to grow and improve, as we have done every year we have been in business. I have the best people in the world working for and with me and I am so grateful for all of them. We are on strong financial footing and our business continues to grow. 

For those on these boards who have decided it is OK to be mean, nasty, and threatening to Kevin and myself I must say I am totally and completely appalled. We have always been nice, friendly and respectful to everyone we have met. The vitriol and hatred coming our way is uncalled for and disturbing. Just because my response

wasn’t fast enough for some people you have decided that it’s appropriate to hide behind an anonymous screen name and post whatever you like. You have created false narratives and fabricated stories without knowing the first thing about us.

For those who have been supportive and good friends both on the boards and in ‘real life’ I am eternally grateful to have you in our lives. Your friendship is a blessing and I am humbled by your support.”

Disney pundit Pete Werner faces sexual assault allegations

Pete Werner, a longtime Disney theme park and travel commentator who owned the fan site The DIS and the Dreams Unlimited Travel agency, is leaving his companies after ex-employees accused him of sexual assault and abusive behavior.

Before those allegations came to light, Werner was known for being part of the first wave of Disney-focused influencers, thanks to his website (WDWInfo.com, aka The DIS) message board (DISBoards.com), podcasts (including “The DIS Unplugged”), and the aforementioned travel agency. His commentary on the company and Disney-related travel has been featured by CNN and The Washington Post .

What are the allegations against Pete Werner?

The sexual assault claims came in a series of posts made on a gossip forum Tattle.life. That message board has plenty of detractors, being called “the most toxic place on the internet” by The New Statesman in 2021 for encouraging harassment of women on social media. The posts regarding Werner, however, have been backed by several other former employees. 

One set of allegations came from Dustin West, who worked on “The DIS Unplugged” from 2011 to 2015. 

In a series of Tattle.life posts beginning in mid-July 2023 , West described how after being hired to a full-time position as The DIS’ director of video and new media, Werner admitted he had romantic feelings for West. Later, during a trip to London, West was sharing a room with Werner “to help reduce the costs,” which West admitted made him uncomfortable because of Werner’s claim that the two were in an “emotional relationship.”  

After going to bed one night, West said in a July 17 post , “I woke up groggy to this man on his knees, next to my bed, reaching under my sheets and touching me inappropriately. I didn’t know what to do, so I pretended to be asleep, shake him off me, and roll over into the opposite direction. I was now wide awake in the bed, pretending to be asleep. I think realized he almost got caught. He went back to his bed. I never mentioned this encounter to him ever again.”

West, who is now married to a woman, added that “shame, guilt, and the desire to hide this friendship/emotional relationship/relationship was what fueled everything.”

On a May 2013 trip, he said he woke up to Werner performing oral sex on him. “This time, out of fear of repercussions, I agreed in my drunken state,” West said. “I just wanted to go back to bed and not be in an argument.” In an Aug. 2 post , West further alleged that Werner had drugged him during this incident and “the first several times we were physical.” 

Sean Faulk, a frequent commentator of “The DIS Unplugged” podcast who co-founded a real estate venture with Werner called Moving to Orlando, had posted first on Tattle.life alleging an abusive relationship with Werner. Faulk said he first began seeing Werner when working as a prostitute and Werner was a frequent customer. He felt pressured to become Werner’s boyfriend and said he was showered with lavish gifts — including DVC contracts and cars — that served to keep him under Werner’s control. 

“When I disobeyed, he stopped paying and fired me, which would leave me with all the debts,” Faulk said in a November 2022 post . “Of course, these things were put in my name with the promise that he would pay them.”

After the relationship ended, Faulk said he went on a work trip where Werner “threatened me if I refused to sleep with him” and then proposed to Faulk, which Faulk turned down.

“Next thing I knew I was back in the hotel room with Pete on top of me,” Faulk said in a July 22 post . “It was like I blinked and suddenly I was just gone. I kicked him off me and went to the bathroom and was sick all night and just locked myself in the bathroom and slept on the floor so I wouldn’t have to deal with him.” 

Supported by other ex-employees

After Faulk and West’s stories were posted, other employees came out in support of the alleged victims. 

Charles Boda posted on the Werner-owned DISBoards.com on Aug. 2 that Werner had admitted to drugging and sexually assaulting West. “Pete is a narcissistic sexual predator who controls everyone he knows, friends, family, employees, by getting them on his payroll somehow and using his money to exert power over them,” Boda said. He also asked for forgiveness for not speaking out about Werner’s supposed confession earlier. (Faulk, for gis 

JeniLynn Knopp, a former DIS panelist who now works for The Walt Disney Company as a production manager, said in a series of Instagram posts that she was “devastated by the claims” and called Werner a “narcissist.” 

Tyler Crouch, another former DIS employee who now co-operates The Kingdom Report YouTube channel, called Werner “an abusive boss” in an Aug. 2 Twitter thread. 

I’m going to come clean. I worked for The DIS for almost 2 years. What follows is all alleged. It was a shit show. Pete Werner was an abusive boss. He constantly judged you for your work. Demanded you work over 40 hours a week. And pitted co-workers against one another. — Attraction Faction (@AttractFaction) August 3, 2023

Response from The DIS and Dreams Unlimited Travel

The first official response to the assault claims came from Corey Martin, president of The DIS, on July 28. In a post on DISBoards.com, Martin said, “The recent allegations have deeply impacted us all. We are facing a challenging and sensitive situation that has left many of us in shock and disbelief. As a team, we are doing our best to navigate and process this new information while also striving to continue with our work responsibilities to the best of our abilities.”

Martin’s statement also criticized negativity towards The DIS based on the allegations. “It is important to acknowledge that these allegations have resulted in unwarranted attacks on some of us and our families online,” he said. “Such behavior is unacceptable, and I urge everyone to treat each other with respect and empathy during this difficult time. It is crucial to remember that each team member not involved in the situation deserves the space to process and cope without undue interference.”

The same day, current “DIS Unplugged” panelist Ryno Clavin, said in a livestream on YouTube that he was “heartbroken” by the allegations. “I feel like a bad friend…I didn’t know and I didn’t see the stuff that maybe I should’ve seen.”    

On Aug. 2, John Magi, co-owner of Dream Unlimited Travels and a former partner of Werner, announced on The DIS that Werner had resigned from both The DIS and the travel agency and his ownership interest “is currently being divested.” 

In a separate statement on DISBoards.com, Magi said he could not comment on the allegations, but like Martin, criticized the reaction from fans. 

“We have always been nice, friendly and respectful to everyone we have met,” Magi said. “The vitriol and hatred coming our way is uncalled for and disturbing. Just because my response wasn’t fast enough for some people you have decided that it’s appropriate to hide behind an anonymous screen name and post whatever you like. You have created false narratives and fabricated stories without knowing the first thing about us.” 

Martin posted a second statement on DISBoards.com on Aug. 3. 

“While I have been a part of the DIS since 2001, I must admit that I was not made aware of the specific allegations that led to these recent events,” he said. “However, over the years, I have witnessed and verbally disagreed with many things that I found concerning. I deeply regret not taking more action at that time, and I want to acknowledge that this is a crucial moment for us to address these issues head-on. Again, I only recently heard about these horrific stories as the victims are sharing them publicly for the first time and have said many times they did not share them with us members of the team.” 

Knopp, the former DIS panelist who now works for Disney, called the official statements, “at best, tone-deaf and, at worst, an attempt to redirect blame” in an Aug. 3 Instagram post.

Magi did not respond to a request for comment from Theme Park Tribune. Martin responded to an email after this story was originally published, but did not offer further comment. 

An email to Werner’s attorney was not returned. 

American Express lawsuit 

On top of the sexual assault allegations, Werner is also facing a lawsuit from American Express over $866,000 in unpaid credit card expenses. 

First filed in March of this year, the suit (Orange County Case No. 2023-CA-011039-O) alleges that Werner owed $866,000 on a credit card that was issued to Dreams Unlimited Travel. In a response filed in June, Dreams Unlimited Travel asked to be removed as a co-defendant in the case, arguing that Werner requested the card without the company’s knowledge.

Werner has filed a motion asking for the case to be moved to arbitration. The suit remains pending.

Back in 2017, the hashtag #MeToo arose on social media and quickly dominated news feeds. The Me Too movement actually begins many years before that, however, in 2006. The phrase “Me Too” was initially used in this context on social media in 2006, on Myspace, by sexual assault survivor and activist Tarana Burke.

If you do not know Taran Burke, Women’s History describes her journey perfectly: “In 1996, Burke was working as the director of a youth camp when she encountered a young woman that would have a profound effect on her. After holding an all-girl bonding session at the camp, a young woman asked to speak with Burke privately about experiencing sexual abuse. Although Burke was unable to respond thoroughly in the moment, this encounter would become the foundation for the ‘me too’ Movement she created a decade later.

This created the foundation of the Me Too movement, a movement for those who have experienced sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and rape culture, to finally speak up and not fear the ones who had been doing this to them and silencing them.

The movement would take viral steam in 2017 after film producer Harvey Weinstein was accused of sexually abusing over 80 women in the film industry. Since then, we have seen even the largest moguls, such as Kevin Spacey, fall. Some who were proven innocent, like Johnny Depp, were still cast away from Hollywood (Depp lost his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean ) just due to the allegations.

What did this all prove? People are not standing to let any abusive action slide by.

Who is Pete Werner?

This story revolves around Peter Warner, the now ex-owner of The DIS, and Dreams Unlimited Travels, a platinum Disney travel agency. According to his profile on The DIS. Pete’s occupation as listed on the site is President of Werner Technologies, Inc, Chief Executive Officer of Dreams Unlimited Travel, Inc. as well as Webmaster of all sites in the Destination-Orlando network. In his biography, Pete goes on to explain that his favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean , his favorite Resort is Disney’s Polynesian Resort, and he has more personal preferences.

Towards the end of the page, Werner left his words of wisdom, stating, “Never forget what Disney is all about. It’s about believing in magic. You can, if you choose, focus on the negative, but then you’ve missed the entire point of Walt’s vision. For those of us who call Walt Disney World our “home”, we have discovered a place where life can stop, if only for a few days. We’ve found a place where, regardless of who we are and what we do, that we can look at this “world” through the eyes of a child, either our own or the one that lives inside each of us. What an amazing legacy Walt left to the world.” Sadly enough, it seems that the workplace he created was anything but magical and, for some of his employees, anything but positive.

For those who may have never seen the DIS Boards, (another Disney fan site created by Werner), Pete described the site as “Congratulations! You’ve found your way to the largest and liveliest Disney discussion forums on the web!! We have more than 40 forums here dealing with everything from Disney theme parks, resorts, restaurants, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland and much, much more.

This forum is designed to help our new visitors navigate their way around our site, and our discussion forums. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have about our guidelines, forums or any of the information we have contained on our website. We’re glad you’ve chosen to join us and hope you will stay around a while!”

Not only did Pete create multiple Disney websites and a highly successful travel agency, but he also started a YouTube channel with one of the most popular Disney podcasts – The DIS Unplugged. This podcast happened both in audio format and in video format in Pete’s home, which allowed the channel to develop a strong following and love for the team that works at The DIS.

The End of Pete Werner at The DIS

On August 2, The Dis put out a statement from John Magi, President and Co-Owner of Dreams Unlimited Travel, Inc..

Effective immediately, Peter Werner has resigned his position as CEO of Dreams Unlimited Travel, Inc. and as Owner/Editor-in-Chief of The DIS (as well as all related websites and properties). John Magi, President and Co-Owner of Dreams Unlimited Travel, will continue to run the day-to-day operations of Dreams Unlimited Travel, Inc. and assume the CEO responsibilities as well. Corey Martin, the President of The DIS, will maintain his role with both The DIS and its affiliated sites while taking on executive responsibilities. Mr. Werner’s ownership interest in the above businesses is currently being divested. If you have any questions about Dreams Unlimited Inc, please contact John Magi at [email protected]. This notice shocked a lot of Disney fans in the community, as Werner began creating his Disney empire in 1999, so stepping away from in 24 years later is a big deal. It also became a popular subject matter within the Disney community as tales of overspending, extreme debt, and abusive behavior came to light. These rumors began after Werner checked himself into rehab, which he publically announced after relapsing on alcohol, and was taking steps to get back on track.

Spend Spend Spend

At the moment, these claims are alleged, but it appears Pete spent nearly $1,000,000 in personal expenses , leaving his company to be sued by Amex to recoup its losses.

The constant spending on Werner’s part left him unable to make several paydays, according to those who have/had work for the company. It seems that pay would typically come; however, it could be up to a month late, which would perpetuate a cycle of late payments.

The Tales of Abuse 

Peter Werner now has an alleged string of both sexual abuse and employee abuse stories that have come to light from employees. It is reported that “Aside from the fact that he has had some questionable “relationships,” with his employees, and several of them are alleging abuse. He is also, being accused of having cameras in his bathroom to spy on guests and employees.”

Previous employee Tyler Crouch spoke out on Twitter regarding Pete’s abuse of his employees. He said:

“I’m going to come clean. I worked for The DIS for almost 2 years. What follows is all alleged. It was a shit show. Pete Werner was an abusive boss. He constantly judged you for your work. Demanded you work over 40 hours a week. And pitted co-workers against one another. I spoke my mind and was chastised from the company for it. And it’s not just Pete. He has followers that do his bidding. When I expressed my opinion, I was thrown under the bus by my coworkers. The Dis is a disgusting place in my opinion. They all hate each other. Pete will blind with gifts in the beginning as all abusers do. He then denigrates you for any small mistake you make. In my opinion I’ve never met a more sour human being than him. Pete has done his own damage. But what I think is almost more damming is that all his subordinates let him get away with it. Some of my coworkers choose money over what was right. And they’ve disregarded and hurt multiple people because of it. Pete fostered a culture of hatred, and it trickled down. Just remember: everything you’ve heard about Pete Werner is probably true. And his subordinates knew it was happening and worked to hide it for monetary value. The only reason I was afraid to say anything was legal action. But everything I’m saying is alleged and an opinion. This is all alleged: When Pete told me they no longer had the money to keep me on, they let me go, I worked for another month FOR FREE. Then I realized he was paying another Disneyland correspondent under the table almost all my salary. That was a final straw. They made me sign a noncompete and wouldn’t let me out of it even though they were the ones that let me go. I tried to work for other outlets but was eventually cast away because someone told them I was in a contract. So bottom line: not only did they let me go, they bullied others into dropping me too.” Credit: Disney

Tyler concluded, “I will say: I am happy to have met friends through the DIS. Some have stuck with me, some haven’t. But truthfully, with the abuse and mistreatment, I’m a richer person because of my experience. Overall, it was a terrible job, but I would never return some of the people I’ve met through it.”

Another previous employee, Steve Porter, took to Twitter to share the message from John Maji and said, “A better future ahead! So happy for my friends who can work in an environment free from stress and fear.”

Current employee Ryan Clavin went live on his YouTube account, sharing what it was like to work for the company. In the video, Ryan talks about the sadness he feels having found out about the recent sexual abuse allegations. He plans to write out his thoughts and experiences in essay form.

The following abuse stories are drawn from various former employees of Werner’s. All stories are currently alleged.

Sean Faulk is the current owner of Moving to Orlando, which he founded alongside Pete Werner during the Covid lockdowns. Before his current position, he was a travel agent for Dreams Unlimited Travel and a frequent panelist for The DIS Unplugged. According to Tattle, “By Sean’s admission, he was working as an escort when Pete became a frequent client. As their “relationship” progressed, Pete began pressuring Sean into becoming his boyfriend, which Sean eventually accepted. Pete showered Sean with lavish gifts, which he would then hold over his lover’s head, such as purchasing an expensive DVC contract in Sean’s name and then refusing to pay it off if Sean didn’t do as Pete wished.”

The site continues to explain, “Sean recounted an occurrence where Pete got him drunk and attempted to assault him while they were on vacation. Sean pushed him off and went to the bathroom to sleep for the rest of the night.

Pete proposed to Sean, but Sean turned him down.

When Sean finally left Pete, Pete tried to fire him but was supposedly stopped by John Magi, who feared a lawsuit. According to Sean, there was fear that if someone were to blow the whistle on Pete’s behavior, it would be Sean. Sean also mentioned that one team member asked Sean to keep quiet because his allegations could sink the business and cost the rest of the staff their jobs.”

Former panelist of The Dis Unplugged podcast Dustin West also spoke out on Tattle. According to the site:

Pete groomed Dustin into a relationship, despite Dustin being a straight man. Eventually Dustin left Pete and moved back to Virginia, where he found work and married a woman. In July 2023, Dustin began posting to Tattle, where he revealed that Pete had coerced him into a relationship and sexually abused him. He would later post his story to the Disboards. Corey Fiascanaro (Fiasco) is a former producer and panelist for the Dis Unplugged. He took to DIS Boards to share his side of the story:

Hey all. Obviously I’m me. I’ve been reading up on all the allegations that’s been coming out and it’s made me sick for a number of reasons. I’m still running through the events I personally experienced and trying to make sense of them in the context of everything that’s come out. I applaud people’s bravery and courage for sharing such personal aspects of their life in the hope that others don’t suffer the same. These people will always have an ear to vent to in me if they ever need it and I hope I’d have one too. With that being said, you shouldn’t be assuming people on the team knew what happened and bashing them. Everyone is and was dealing with stuff of their own and it’s up to them to share that as they are ready too. For all you know other people have their own traumatic experiences and you are just assuming something else based on video from a show where people talk about theme parks. You really have no idea what people have been through except what information they have voluntarily provided. Just because someone works in a field that puts them in the public eye, doesn’t mean that they are not people who could be going through their own traumas, pressures, fears, etc. Be kind to eachother, do right by one another, and support people who have been hurt.

Again, all of these allegations are just that, at the moment — but they are horrible to read and sad to have to believe to potentially be true. For now, we are glad to see the employees who currently work for the company are all still allegedly employed and can now focus on continuing to produce high-quality Disney content for their followers to enjoy. The company has clearly demonstrated that they do not support this type of behavior, and is looking to move forward in a positive light.

By now I’m sure most of you have seen my blog post about Pete’s departure from Dreams Unlimited Travel and the DIS. Due to legalities and under advice of council I am not permitted to comment on the allegations. I may be able to say more in the future but I can’t as of right now. I can say that Dreams Unlimited Travel and The DIS both have incredible teams of people working for and with us. We are a very strong organization and we will continue to grow and improve, as we have done every year we have been in business. I have the best people in the world working for and with me and I am so grateful for all of them. We are on strong financial footing and our business continues to grow. For those on these boards who have decided it is OK to be mean, nasty and threatening to Kevin and myself I must say I am totally and completely appalled. We have always been nice, friendly and respectful to everyone we have met. The vitriol and hatred coming our way is uncalled for and disturbing. Just because my response wasn’t fast enough for some people you have decided that it’s appropriate to hide behind an anonymous screen name and post whatever you like. You have created false narratives and fabricated stories without knowing the first thing about us. For those who have been supportive and good friends both on the boards and in ‘real life’ I am eternally grateful to have you in our lives. Your friendship is a blessing and I am humbled by your support. This has to be terribly tough time for you all and anyone who has any knowledge about how business ownership works would understand that an immediate comment is not always the wise or business intelligent thing to do- and could have huge legal ramifications. The victims do need their voice because what happened to them is terrible. However, to ever come after anyone who is NOT the perpetrators of the crime is disgusting. I look forward to meeting up with the team this weekend as planned and celebrating a new path forward. I will continue to support this team with my viewership, my Patreon membership as well as my travel business as I have been given no reason not to since the root cause of the damage has been removed.

Thank you for your message. I know this is probably not what you expected to be dealing with while you are all out in California for a fun experience with the fans of the show. I didn’t expect it either, yet I’m just reading from Home after the first day back to work for teachers, but I expect this to be extremely difficult for the people who work for you. I hope you are reassuring your existing team that they are safe and will be taken care of throughout this crisis, just like we were told you did during the Covid shutdown. I’m sure we’d like to know that as well.

Goings On at Dreams Unlimited Travel, and DIS Podcasts DisBoards etc.

Posting because I know some people here have mentioned using Dreams Unlimited Travel, especially for cruises. There's a lot going on at those companies right now - allegations of very bad mistreatment of employees by Pete and litigation with Amex over amounts owed on a Pete personal card plus a corporate card, with the amounts totaling >$900k. The Amex cases are publicly available on the Florida Orange County court clerks site. I'm not here for gossip, but there are issues that could affect people's choices of who to do business with, and it's not inconceivable the companies could not survive. I hope they do, and my full hope would be that others involved in those ventures take over and succeed moving forward. Maybe they could even go lighter on the ban hammer on the forums. But if not, be prepared. Websites can disappear in an instant. When Josh died, my first move was to download all the trip reports I posted at the EasyWDW forums. I also reached out to arrange alternate communication channels with 1 or 2 people just in case. That was a good thing because when Josh's family decided to shut it down, they gave no notice. To be clear, they owed us nothing and had the right to do it, but if you had not already prepared, you lost all that was there. I really hope the DIS forums, podcasts and DUT all survive and my guess is they probably will. But you never know. The DIS has never been my favorite WDW site, but it's hard to imagine the online WDW community without it. Finally, there's a long thread at the DIS forums with the title "Disappointed," if you want to wade through pages and pages to see more details. A few of the team employees have posted there as well. If the mods here would rather not get into this at all, I won't be offended if this is removed. I wavered a bit today before deciding to post. On balance I thought the information useful.  

@BLTIsNotASandwich - Oh my, I spend most of my Disney internet time on DISboards because it is so busy and has so many people with such a range of knowledge that I feel I can get reliable answers (and also that I have something to contribute). I certainly hope DISboards can continue, despite Pete's issues. We haven't done business with DUT but I have considered it for the next time we cruise. Thanks, Mark, for bringing this to my attention.

Omg I just read all 24 pages of that thread. I stopped being a member of the boards years ago, and stopped watching their videos And podcasts quite a while ago. I dont Want to get into too much bashing but the owner always seemed liked A shady person to me but even this I didn’t expect . That being said there are a lot of people I know and are friends with IRL because we all met ( and left lol) the DIS  

As some here, I am on the Disboards also - have been for many years (just like I was with MO). Earlier in the week I started reading a thread there that has since been deleted. I called one my sons since he listens to the podcast shows all the time but he is not on the boards. I just said/asked, had he heard anything, something is up/is going on but I did not have much clue. Next morning of course I started to read more and more and it took me to the "other message board" and it took me two/three days to catch up. The "disappointing" thread was created and so far is still up. There is also a thread/statement from "Cory". I thought the same when I kept reading - OMG, Wow and wow - yet nothing should be shocking me anymore. Let's see what happens moving forward.  

Oh interesting. I am not welcome there anymore because I was friends with a couple of moderators who got banned 2 years ago, so they also banned me and like a 10-20 other of their friends. which always seemed insanely petty. Based on what those former mods told me I am approximately 0.0% surprised. Pete was a huge }%]^ } to one of them and disrespected the other pretty badly. I wouldn’t use DUT if they paid me.

I booked a cruise through DUT in the past. Was my only experience, didn't have any issues. Also have an ABD trip booked through them that is for December. Hopefully that's not affected in any way... I booked through DUT because of the extra $400 discount they provide.  

So, you made me look, because I hit the forums daily - mostly - but I'm not a podcast person (I'm not really into vids per se' - even TV). It seems like a large group of people to sink. I actually never realized the forum came from the podcast or that the travel company was connected. It would be horrible if this sank the forums and the travel company - that doesn't seem fair as they only seem connected by association to the podcast. Maybe I am missing the whole story.

Wow great reading. The Queen is dead? I'm not a fan of Disboards as I'm occasionally off color and they really don't appreciate that. I don't use travel agents as a rule. And I found their podcast a bit too swishy for my taste. But I love a good scandal and this one is juicy smollet!  

AFAICT, at this point the travel agency is the main business behind everything there. The real estate company was short lived. There is a DVC broker/rental primary advertiser, but I believe no cross-ownership. The forums, news website and podcasts apparently exist primarily to generate business for the agency. They also generate some independent cash via advertising and subscriptions. The person at the heart of the alleged wrongdoing is a founder and significant owner of the whole enterprise so it's not a simple matter to unwind him.  

Some pretty nasty stuff, that man is a narcissist.

I also am not welcome at DISboards. Its been a long time since I was there. I much prefer the friendly people here. I also liked the old passporter board but that was more general Disney and not a lot of DVC.

The Disney community is shaken after news surfaces of allegations about a CEO of a popular Disney travel agency. When you think of Disney, you think of magic, the Parks, your favorite childhood movies, and unforgettable experiences. As The Walt Disney Company is always growing and changing, there are constantly new updates to report on.

With reports and information, unfortunately, has come the demise of a popular CEO who was a trusted voice in the Disney community. As a Disney fan, it’s important to find a trusted influence when you’re looking for tips, tricks, and helpful tools for anything Disney. With these recent allegations, Disney fans alike are deeply saddened by the news of sexual allegations, debt, and lawsuits with the Disney mogul.

Who is Pete Werner?

Peter Werner is the former owner of The Dis Unplugged, DVC Fan, DCL Fan, Disboards, and Dreams Unlimited Travel. He is known for being the now former host of The Dis Unplugged podcast. Pete discovered Disney after visiting Orlando as a recovering addict. He soon created businesses revolving around the most magical place on earth. “Alongside his former partner John Magi and a third silent partner, he co-founded Dreams Unlimited Travel, which focuses on planning Disney-based vacations,” as reported .

Me Too Movement

In 2017 the rise of a new movement called the Me Too Movement began as sexual allegations came out against film producer Harvey Weinstein. Initially, the growing movement’s phrase was used in 2006 by Tarana Burke, who shared to her Myspace her experience of being a survivor of sexual assault. Years later, in 2017, actress Alyssa Milano resurfaced the phrase as she urged women to come together after being victimized in Hollywood.

Weinstein was not the only Hollywood mogul named in the movement, as many others were now in the limelight due to the rapid takeoff of the movement. Being called out on unacceptable, appalling behavior was the start of the Me Too Movement. The Me Too Movement gave victims a platform to speak on behalf of their experiences with abuse and sexual harassment and, for once, not fear those that have been silencing their pain for so long.

Allegations Against Pete Werner

As reports roll in with allegations, we sadly see the #MeToo Movement appear in the Disney community. On Wednesday, August 2, news began flooding the internet. A message was sent out nearly immediately by the co-owner and President of the Dreams Unlimited Travel Inc. agency, John Magi. The message included that Pete Werner would be resigning effective immediately.

Effective immediately, Peter Werner has resigned his position as CEO of Dreams Unlimited Travel, Inc. and as Owner/Editor-in-Chief of The DIS (as well as all related websites and properties). John Magi, President and Co-Owner of Dreams Unlimited Travel, will continue to run the day-to-day operations of Dreams Unlimited Travel, Inc. and assume the CEO responsibilities as well. Corey Martin, the President of The DIS, will maintain his role with both The DIS and its affiliated sites while taking on executive responsibilities. Upon the immediate resignation, the floodgates opened with thoughts, experiences, and opinions through the Disney community. The initial shock was sent through Disney fans, as Werner was a longtime Disney lover and feel like a trusting voice in the community. He began his company in 1999 but soon came to the demise in now 2023.

Sexual Assault, Debt, and Lawsuits

As the internet has swirled with information, Werner was forced to resign due to allegations of sexual assault. According to multiple sources, he sexually assaulted numerous men who worked under him at The Dis. Furthermore, it was said he would purchase expensive gifts and use kindness as blackmail when people wanted to come forward or end things.

According to the platform Tattle, one of Werner’s workers and former partners, Dustin West, came forward to speak about his abuse. “In July 2023, Dustin began posting to Tattle, where he revealed that Pete had coerced him into a relationship and sexually abused him,” the platform wrote . Later this would be one major reason for his immediate resignation from the company.

Furthermore, social media continued with the conversation, as another previous employee came forward with a slue of tweets, as seen below.

I’m going to come clean. I worked for The DIS for almost 2 years. What follows is all alleged. It was a shit show. Pete Werner was an abusive boss. He constantly judged you for your work. Demanded you work over 40 hours a week. And pitted co-workers against one another. — Attraction Faction (@AttractFaction) August 3, 2023

The previous employee AttractionFaction on Twitter went on to write ,

I spoke my mind and was chastised from the company for it. And it’s not just Pete. He has followers that do his bidding. When I expressed my opinion, I was thrown under the bus by my coworkers. The Dis is a disgusting place in my opinion. They all hate each other.

Pete will blind with gifts in the beginning as all abusers do. He then denigrates you for any small mistake you make. In my opinion I’ve never met a more sour human being than him. Pete has done his own damage. But what I think is almost more damming is that all his subordinates let him get away with it. Some of my coworkers choose money over what was right. And they’ve disregarded and hurt multiple people because of it. Pete fostered a culture of hatred, and it trickled down. Just remember: everything you’ve heard about Pete Werner is probably true. And his subordinates knew it was happening and worked to hide it for monetary value. The only reason I was afraid to say anything was legal action. But everything I’m saying is alleged and an opinion. It’s been hard to keep my mouth shut because of legal repercussions. But there comes a time where people are being hurt and you need to state your opinion.

More Allegations Follow

Who was aware.

As the allegations continue, questions of who knew what was happening are being asked. Current employee Ryan Clavin went live on his YouTube channel to share his sadness and thoughts on the experiences.

While many fans are looking for answers, Corey Fiascanaro, a former producer for the Dis Unplugged, also came forward to share his thoughts. He wrote ,

Hey all. Obviously I’m me. I’ve been reading up on all the allegations that’s been coming out and it’s made me sick for a number of reasons. I’m still running through the events I personally experienced and trying to make sense of them in the context of everything that’s come out. I applaud people’s bravery and courage for sharing such personal aspects of their life in the hope that others don’t suffer the same. These people will always have an ear to vent to in me if they ever need it and I hope I’d have one too. With that being said, you shouldn’t be assuming people on the team knew what happened and bashing them. Everyone is and was dealing with stuff of their own and it’s up to them to share that as they are ready too. For all you know other people have their own traumatic experiences and you are just assuming something else based on video from a show where people talk about theme parks. You really have no idea what people have been through except what information they have voluntarily provided. Just because someone works in a field that puts them in the public eye, doesn’t mean that they are not people who could be going through their own traumas, pressures, fears, etc. Be kind to eachother, do right by one another, and support people who have been hurt.

Just to reiterate, all of these allegations are just that, and the story is certainly still developing around these awful experiences. What’s hopeful for fans of the companies formerly impacted by Pete Werner is seeing the focus on high-quality Disney content and their clear intolerance to this type of behavior.

The Dis showing their support at this time gives hope to moving forward in a positive light for their employees, all past and future.

On Thursday (May 16), the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the city's popular monthly transit pass, Climate Card, will be made available to tourists in short-term options. Currently, a Climate Card costs 62,000 won (US$45.60) for a month's use – allowing its user unlimited access to Seoul-based subway lines and Seoul-licensed transit/town buses. A 65,000 won option extends the usage to Ttareungi bicycles – Seoul's bicycle sharing system.

From Jul 1, tourists can enjoy the Climate Card in four options:

Immigrant restaurateur says he was ruined by human-trafficking allegations Back to video

A blind eye is frequently turned depending on political expediency (see protests). Bail is spooned out like seafood chowder.

But sometimes the wrong guy gets accused and finds himself against the state’s staggering — and frequently stupid — might.

Everol Powell is one of those people.

The 54-year-old Jamaican immigrant opened a popular Caribbean-themed restaurant, the Boathouse, in the Kawartha Lakes area, where it was a favourite of cottagers and locals alike. Powell was living his Canadian dream.

Sometimes he hired international workers from Jamaica to staff the joint.

That might have been his first mistake.

“I was pulled over by the cops in 2014, completely out of the blue,” he told the Toronto Sun . “It was for human trafficking.”

The charge still stings. Powell said several of the Boathouse workers had run off.

“Officers told me they had received a 911 call from someone, who was anonymous. They said, ‘Everol is paying girls to have sex,'” he recalled, adding that he owned two restaurants at the time. “It wasn’t remotely true. But I had nothing but my good name and good word.”

Whispers move like the wind in smaller burgs. Powell said he never had problems with the local police, knowing many by name and often serving them free coffee and conversation in the morning.

But the OPP was a different matter. The provincial cops carried out three search warrants and he was locked up. And when he was out on bail? Cops followed him constantly.

And then he was hit with 17 human-trafficking charges.

That makes the news in small towns.

Powell alleges that the OPP wanted to nail him so badly, his restaurant was wired.

His businesses began taking a nosedive after he was sullied with the charges. They would never financially recover and both would eventually be shuttered.

On Feb. 14, 2014. The charges were muted. The pain, anger and outrage continues.

“They assassinated my character, my integrity, they ruined my livelihood. My first lawyer tried to get me to wave my rights, to plead guilty to a misdemeanour charge … I told him, ‘I can’t do that.’ And he told me it wouldn’t affect my chances of suing the police,” Powell said.

He said he went through five lawyers, each wanting him to plead to the lower charge. Powell described the whole affair as a “malicious prosecution.”

The father of three has not worked since 2018. Legal fees cost him everything he had, his assets and his savings.

Powell had wanted to sue local police, the OPP, Canada Border Services Agency and the RCMP.

That didn’t happen because he claims his civil litigators did not file the suit within the two-year time limit allowed. Powell alleges he was misled.

“Everol was sold down the river by his lawyers,” said his current lawyer, Osbourne Barnwell. “It’s not a matter of Monday morning quarterbacking or hindsight being 20/20.”

Barnwell alleged that Powell has shelled out to lawyers more than $70,000 and “from a man who had nothing left.”

The lawyer said that following the two-year statute of limitations had passed – when any case against the cops was moot – Rogerson Law Group still took the case.

“Cops saw him as a culprit and didn’t give him the benefit of the doubt. It is simply wrong,” Barnwell said.

In their statement of defence, Andrew Rogerson and the Rogerson Law Group said that Powell told them “that he understood” that unless there was a formal retainer “no steps would be taken to protect his interest.”

The Rogerson firm also said that Powell was cautioned there was a “material risk” that the courts may not let him proceed with his lawsuit against the cops and that timing was an issue.

They have denied any wrongdoing.

Eventually, he paid a $10,000 retainer. But his current lawyer claims Powell should have been told the statute of limitations had passed and there was an absence of merit in his case.

Powell claims the Rogerson firm held themselves out as civil litigators with knowledge of that area of law.

The lawsuit claims that the firm “failed to meet the basic standards of a civil litigator” and caused Powell grave financial, familial and social hardship.

The statement of defence suggested the restaurateur was gung-ho about charging ahead with the suit. Powell said he would have been “blindingly foolish” to charge ahead if he had known the difficulties.

Powell had been charged with seven counts of human trafficking along with seven counts of material benefit from a criminal offence. He would receive an absolute discharge.

His criminal lawyer claims in his statement of defence that he got the charges downgraded. He added that he reminded Powell of limitation periods.

Rogerson said that by March 2020, Powell could no longer afford to retain the firm’s defendants and had fallen into arrears.

The firm added: “At all times discharged their duties in his best interest.”

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
