Owner’s Manual.

Thank you for buying a Bontrager Trip ™ computer. We hope this computer gives you miles (or kilometers) of pleasure.

Your Trip computer may not include all of the features discussed in this manual. This manual covers Trip 2, 2L, 3 and 5W models.

Please read this manual carefully. If you do not understand the information, or you have a question that this manual does not cover, consult your Authorized Bontrager Dealer or visit www.bontrager.com.

Safety When Riding

When riding your bicycle, do not stare at the computer for a long time (Figure 1). Failure to pay attention to the road ahead of you, obstacles, and traffic could result in a loss of control, serious injury, or death. Stay alert!

Make sure wires cannot contact the tire, rim, or spokes. Contact with wires could damage the computer or cause you to lose control and fall.

Display Elements and Abbreviations

The Trip can be used on two bicycles with different wheel sizes while still calculating data correctly for each wheel size. You must first set the wheel sizes and choose the appropriate bike setting before riding.

Trip Data (can be reset to 0 without affecting Odometer (ODO) total)

After you install the battery, you can program the wheel size and units.

Install the Battery

To prolong the life of the battery, it is not installed at the factory. (See Figures 10 and 11 at the end of the manual for further help installing the battery.)

To Program Your Trip

This procedure programs your Trip cycle computer for the first time or after a

Reset. If you would like to program individual features or advanced settings, see the sections Additional Information & Features and Advanced Settings.

1. Install the battery (or push the Reset button—see Figure 12 at end of manual).

2. The wheel size appears on the display.

Bontrager Trip 5W computer review

Intuitive device

Bontrager's big-screen unit displays all the essentials in an easy to read format. The low profile mount can be used with a fixed handlebar clip or zip-ties for stem mounting, and the fork sensor attaches with zip-ties or rubber bands.

The spoke magnet works with round or flat spokes and setup is easy via the two positive click buttons on the bottom edge of the head unit. Bontrager have maximised screen size on the head unit, so it offers a large current speed figure. The big scrollable sub-menu display (trip/ time/distance/average and max speed) is shown at the bottom, and temperature featured permanently on the left-hand centre.

There’s a pace arrow above the temperature readout, and a backlight completes the comprehensive, legible display. The analogue wireless transmission was trouble free, whatever potential disturbance there was in the force. Overall, this was a great unit to use.

I have the 4W and I'm not impressed with it. The buttons take a lot of finesse and sometimes force to operate. The angle of the buttons is bad cuz it causes the mount to rotate around as you press them. About to spring for an ibike Newton so I can record more useful info anyway.  

I thought about getting this: Amazon.com: i-gotU GT-800 GPS Travel & Sports Computer: GPS & Navigation and trying it. Pretty good reviews on it.  

Most likely, you experienced interference from power lines. I would say take it back and get a wired version.  

I had one and it did that one time - telling me I was going 100+mph, but other than that one time, it was fine. But, alas, it was stolen along with my bike. I think I'll get a garmin next time (and be more careful with the bike)  

I have one. No issues of abnormal readings or speeds. Seems to work fine. The buttons could be easier to work, but I mostly just track speed, trip miles and overall miles. I rarely change the display on a ride. I have light wrist watch for clock time.
