This was a great tour! Corellia (our tour guide) knew a lot. The history was fun and it was cool to see the areas we don't normally get to enter.

This tour is incredible! David and Jadyn were absolutely remarkable and were extremely knowledgeable about the entire park and made sure our students were actively engaged throughout the entire hour and a half tour. We had such a great experience, and I highly recommend this event for any group or individual to visit.

We decided to have our son's first birthday party at Minute Maid Park and I must say everyone had the time of their lives! Let me start off by saying everything was perfect! Caleb(events coordinator) the wonderful tour guides and the staff at Minute Maid Park were extremely kind and courteous! They went over and beyond to accommodate my friends and family at the party. I absolutely love how the suite where we ate pizza and sang happy birthday overlooked the whole baseball field. My guest were amazed and the children were so excited to eat on the balcony outside. Like I said everything was perfect, from the cupcakes to the amazing Astros party favors the guest got to pick from. After the suite we got to go to the batting cages, this is where any guest who wanted to practice batting got to step up to the plate. It was amazing to think that players from different teams in the Major League practice batting in the same cage we were currently in. After the batting cages we then got a grand tour of the Minute Maid park, from the press box to the best seats on the field. We seen everything! Everyone and I mean everyone loved it all! This will always be a birthday everyone will talk about for years and years to come! Thanks to all the staff at the Houston Astros minute maid park, you guys Rock!!!!!!

This place is a real Tours-De-Force, and the tours here take more than a minute. They're just maid that way. Just be careful where you park. Astro-logically speaking this is one of the best teams out there. Considering Houston is the 4th city of America, a huge market and one which likes sports as much as the next town (to some degree), it doesn't have a marquee team that everyone here loves. The Astros have, more than any other, emerged as that team. They're very beloved by the Latin community because of people like Altuve, and because of bringing championships to Houston, a city that needs and deserves them more than most. So yes, the Astros are a very good baseball team which represent the city of Houston better than any of the other teams, although the Rockets are a close second, in terms of putting things on the shelves of the trophy cabinet, and in representing the Latin community, which makes up more than half of Houston's population, and this is probably why you see more of these shirts around than any other team. The Rockets are kinda good and kind of popular, and manage to bring the odd big name to town which is great, and the Texans are just a major disappointment despite having the marquee stand up guy (JJ Watt) on the team for so long. Now we're going to see if they can step out of his enormous shadow. But regardless, the Texans aren't fanatically followed, and honestly that's what happens if you put a major NFL franchise, which is a sport mainly followed by some demographics, in a town that is not famous for those demographics. Houston should continue investing in the Dynamo, the Rockets, and especially the Astros since they're already by far the most beloved team in town.

We went on the Minute Maid Park tour on Father's Day 2020... during Covid. Baseball was cancelled for the season so this was the closest thing we had. We loved the tour... well, loved it as much as Covid restrictions allowed. Temperature checks, masks and a strict NO TOUCHING ANYTHING POLICY was in full effect. One of our kids literally touched a table and the tour guide yelled at her and had to immediately disinfect the spot. (Eye roll). Anyways, we liked the tour and how much we got to see. It wasn't too short, wasn't too long... just right. Can't recall how much tour tickets were... $15 sounds right. Highly recommend if you are a 'Stros fan and haven't been on it yet.

This review is for the daily tour offered by Minute Maid Park. The ballpark offers several types of tours. The daily tour, the pregame tour and custom tours. The tour starts at the Astros team store in the Union Station lobby. During 1.5 hour tour you will see the press box, the owners suite, the diamond club and actually spend time walking the warning track for great photos of the field. The tour guide shared a wealth of anecdotes, historic facts and general thoughts about the park, the Astros and baseball. I highly recommend this tour before seeing an Astros game.

Recently we went on a field trip to Minute Maid park for the educational tour. I have to admit when I first found out this was where a bunch of first graders were going on the field trip I was apprehensive because I thought the kids would be bored. I was wrong, they loved it! I loved it too! Our tour guides were great and kept it exciting. It was paced perfectly and my students had so many great questions that the guides knew all the answers to. The only reason why it's not getting 4-5 stars is because once the tour was over the kids were able to sit and eat their lunch outside on the property, I wish they had a playground and definitely restrooms. We were not allowed back inside to use the restroom and luckily after some convincing they allowed us to send 6 kids at a time to use the restroom. For anyone who has small children or is in education I'm sure you all know that this created a bit of a stressful situation. Luckily no accidents occurred. If we ever do this field trip again, we are getting right on the bus after the tour and going to discovery green where restrooms are available and it's more "kid friendly" to play.

Tour guide was terribly unknowledgeable about the team, the stadium and any player history. All she knew about was prices of seats and food. Very poor speaker as well. Extremely disappointing.

Dear Kyle, I am really sorry to hear about your experience here at Minute Maid Park. The tour you described is uncharacteristic of our tour guides as they are all well-trained and undergo rigorous testing, which includes team history, stadium history and specifications, as well as speaking ability, before being certified to give stadium tours. Please feel free to call me so we may discuss the issue in better detail. I would like to know which tour you took and the date and time of your tour, so we may better address the situation. Thank you for visiting Minute Maid Park, and again, I am sorry to hear about your experience. I sincerely hope you will consider visiting us, again, in the future. Our particular guide did not provide much information about the different areas we were shown. Our students had some good questions, yet he was unable to answer several that a tour guide should have known. A bit more enthusiasm and much more information would have made for a better experience.

Where To Eat At Minute Maid Park

Where To Eat At Minute Maid Park image

A night at Minute Maid Park is a real treat, and not just because Orbit always gets the crowd hype and Alex Bregman might bomb one past center field and trigger the home run train’s horn. The food is pretty decent, too. Whether you want to double-fist a beer and a hot dog in revelry, or get into some smoked pork rib sandwiches, these are the best things to eat at Minute Maid Park.

top down shot of two cocktails in plastic cups one is dark brown and the other has orange zest floating in foam

Maven Coffee & Cocktails

Location: section 104.

What better way to support the team than grabbing a couple of drinks at Astros’ pitcher Lance McCullers Jr.’s coffee shop and bar? Located directly behind the Crawford Boxes, Maven pours boozy frozen espresso martinis and shaken carajillos laced with orange zest. While these may not be the standard ballpark drinks, they will get you fired up to sing “Deep In The Heart Of Texas” with your fellow fans.

Saint Arnold’s Bar

Houston’s oldest independent brewery has its own tavern behind the Crawford Boxes with multiple taps of nearly every beer in Saint Arnold’s lineup. The bar serves a cider made just for Minute Maid Park that you can mix with any beer for a build-you-own-snakebite. It’s a great spot to post up during slow innings and trade advice about which reliever should emerge from the bullpen to any bartender willing to listen.

Cookies And Creamery And Ice Cream

Location: sections 106, 128, 153, 219, 226, 251, 411, and 429.

Cookies And Creamery And Ice Cream exemplifies why ice cream is the unofficial dessert of baseball. Blue Bell comes in either a cup, on top of a handmade waffle cone, or in a commemorative mini Astros baseball helmet. Get a couple of scoops of vanilla, or their featured flavor of the month, and do some inner-child healing by covering your ice cream in as many toppings as you (and the helmet) can handle.

The Butcher Express

Location: sections 116 and 224.

If there’s one thing Houstonians are passionate about—besides all things Jose Altuve—it’s barbecue . So of course Minute Maid Park hired its own pitmaster to slow-smoke pork ribs and brisket for Astros fans. Order the Mc RBI Sandwich at Butcher Express for a smoky pork sandwich loaded with tangy escabeche pickles on a potato roll. This sandwich’s portability makes it easy to fist pump for Yordaddy’s homer without dropping your lunch.

Home & Away Stands

Location: sections 113, 129, 156, 251, and 427.

Pennant Pickle Dog: The Pennant Pickle Dog is the perfect ball game hot dog because it manages to balance the heat of the jalapeño slaw with the crisp brininess of the fried pickle chips. And while it’s not exactly a light snack, this hot dog still feels refreshing. Plus, a few bites of this dog will inspire you to circle back to the Saint Arnold’s stand for an equally refreshing Lawnmower beer.

Bayou City Hot Dog: When you can’t decide between barbecue and a classic dog during the game, get the Bayou City Hot Dog. The 12-inch dog comes topped with tender smoked pork burnt ends, a mountain of melted cheese sauce, and a dash of heat on the back end from their spicy BBQ sauce. Try this hot dog on an empty stomach and with an extra serving of napkins.

el tiempo frozen margarita in a plastic cup held up in front of a neon sign inside a baseball stadium

El Tiempo Margarita Bar

Location: section 156.

The frozen margarita from El Tiempo Margarita Bar seems pretty standard: a lime-green citrusy drink that has more slush than not. But after a few sips, it’s clear this cocktail is stronger than the maraschino cherry on top would lead you to believe. Every drop tastes equally sweet and boozy. It’s pleasantly icy and will keep you cool through every inning, though you’ll probably have to babysit this drink throughout the game.

large smoked turkey leg on top of Houston Astros logo paper

Location: Center Field Section

The Cajun-smoked turkey leg from DAT Creole is roughly the size of an accessory from The Flintstones , but that’s not the most impressive part. The smoked leg is tender enough to fall off the bone with little more than a loving glance. And while it might require two hands to support the behemoth, the sticky tang is worth the arm workout.

The Gallagher Club

Location: club level, above 205-208.

Minute Maid Park has a lot of clubs and varying levels of exclusivity. So, if you're stuck on the Diamond Club waiting list (who isn’t?) and want to live that club lifestyle, hit up The Gallagher Club. For $80 per game, you can add on club access to season passes or any daily ticket purchased through the Astros. In addition to the best view of the entire stadium, the club offers a huge all-you-can-eat buffet, a build-your-own nacho bar, and make-your-own dessert bars.

Minute Maid Park batter’s eye undergoing changes after players voice concerns

minute maid park pregame tour

HOUSTON — A silent series against baseball’s worst pitching staff may have prompted a change  Astros  players have long desired. Workers spent Friday afternoon adding more green paint to the right side of the batter’s eye at Minute Maid Park, an Astros spokesperson confirmed to  The Athletic .

The spokesperson cited “player feedback” as one of the reasons for the enhancement, which comes two days after Houston lost a series against the 100-loss Oakland A’s. The Astros scored two runs and recorded nine hits across their two losses. Only one of those hits fell for extra bases.

A photograph obtained by  The Athletic  on Friday showed green paint covering a part of the previously-red Budweiser bar that runs along the right-center field wall. In a statement released Friday night, the team said it is “adding green paint to the right side of the batter’s eye.”

Last week, multiple players  voiced concerns  about the batter’s eye to  The Athletic  on the condition of anonymity — and one cited the colors on the Budweiser bar as a particular distraction.

“It’s like night and day,” one player said of the difference in hitting at Minute Maid Park and on the road, where Houston has an American League-leading .800 OPS.

On-record comments this week from general manager Dana Brown and bench coach Joe Espada reinforced what has long been whispered both inside Houston’s clubhouse and around the league: hitters find it difficult to see the ball at Minute Maid Park. The Astros have a .732 OPS and a negative-8 run differential inside Minute Maid Park this season. Only 11 teams have a lower home OPS.

“Guys have talked to us about the batter’s eye but, at the end of the day, this team has been good with the same batter’s eye last year and the year before,” Brown  told KBME 790 on Wednesday during his weekly appearance.

“I think there could be one or two tweaks that we could make that we talked about, but I don’t think it’s anything significant. I do think there’s a minor adjustment in the view with a left-handed pitcher that we may have talked about. All in all, this team has been successful without making any adjustments to the batter’s eye, so I’m not too worried about that.”

As Brown mentioned, Astros players have said left-handed pitchers are particularly difficult to see inside Minute Maid Park, though the team does boast an .802 OPS and .270 batting average against southpaws at home. This week, though, A’s left-handers  Ken Waldichuk  and  JP Sears teamed to throw 12 innings of two-run ball in Oakland’s two victories against Houston.

The current batter’s eye has been in place since 2017, when the team removed Tal’s Hill in favor of an ivy batter’s eye with restaurants and bars nearby. This will be the second time since the renovation that the Astros have extended the batter’s eye farther right.

The latest extension is scheduled to be completed prior to the team’s home game on Monday against the  Baltimore Orioles , according to a team spokesperson. The Astros are 38-37 at Minute Maid Park this season and are guaranteed to finish with their lowest home winning percentage since 2016 — the last time Houston did not make the postseason.

“The batter’s eye has been something that I’ve heard players talk about in the past. Also, visiting players when they come here to Houston, they have some difficult times seeing the ball here,” Espada  told KBME on Monday .

“In the past it hasn’t been talked about as much. I think we need to look at our overall work here at home. We need to come in here with the same intensity, same goals … We need to press the gas pedal and continue to push forward. There’s been mention of (the batter’s eye) in the past, but I don’t think it’s the reason why our home record hasn’t been as good as our road record. We just need to continue to push forward.”

Blaming nothing but the batter’s eye for Houston’s poor home performance is short-sighted. Both teams stare at the same backdrop when batting. The team managed a .743 home OPS while looking at it last season and a .783 mark in 2021.

Houston has a 4.16 team ERA at Minute Maid Park this season — its highest in a 162-game season since 2019 — and five of the team’s nine extra-inning losses are at home.

Still, when presented with the team’s stark home and road splits, players brought up the batter’s eye. Asked on Monday whether players or coaches had brought concerns to the club’s higher-ups, Espada acknowledged it could be a possibility after the season is over.

“Maybe at the end of the year, maybe some of the players will think this is something we can explore and look at,” Espada said. “Maybe we could sit down and talk about it, but this is something that’s not going to get done in the next couple of weeks.”

Turns out it was a little ahead of schedule.
