Residents of a nondescript high-rise wake up one day to find their building covered by a void that annihilates anything that comes in contact with it. Convinced right away that this “black veil” is here to stay, the hundred-odd occupants go into survival mode, forming racial gangs, hoarding resources and putting up barricades. Nobler values yield to primitive instincts and the foundations of civilisation begin to crack.

French filmmaker Guillaume Nicloux’s nihilistic dystopian drama La tour proceeds with the inexorability of a boulder rolling down a hill. Taking the premise at face value, Nicloux sidesteps logical explanations, presenting the veil as an abstract entity that simply exists. This purity of outline allows the film to accommodate several allegorical interpretations: religious, social and existential. Even so, La tour is a blunt, brutal confrontation with France’s contemporary race relations, with the Black-Blanc-Beur utopianism of yore making way for a bleaker, more desperate vision.

Shot entirely indoors in artificial light, this quintessential product of the pandemic era envisages a world in which the public realm is a source of constant dread. Yet the exterminating angel in this unforgiving tower in lockdown isn’t the world, but humankind itself.

Cinéma français ne pas réaliser de films cringe tout les deux mois challenge. T'as voulu faire un thème dénonciation finalement t'as vomis ton mépris de classe pendant 1h30 avec les blancs ces grands spartiates bedonnants contre les noirs et les arabes dans une version wish de The Mist avec une misogynie de l'enfer et j'aimerais savoir quel drogue vous prenez pour sélectionner ce genre vidange dans des festivals.

„ Lockdown Tower“ Selten so einen unsympathischen Film gesehen.  Der Film versagt auf allen Ebenen,  ist nichtmal als Horror(film) zu gebrauchen geschweige denn als ethisch gesellschaftliches Mahnbeispiel.  Keine Identifikationsfiguren, durch die Bank Vollpfosten, dreckig verschwitzte Langeweile samt Nullwertunterhaltung oder Mitfühlfaktor.  Spart euch die Lebenszeit für etwas Besseres auf, wie zb. eine schwarze Leinwand anstarren, Steine beobachten oder Fußpilzzüchten.

People who, in extreme situations, call on their basic instincts and turn on each other. The scenario is familiar from a number of media. The Lockdown Tower also uses it, with a mysterious hook. One day, the residents of a high-rise building in a socially deprived area look out of their windows and see only deep blackness. A black nothingness billows around the building. Everything you put through it disappears. No matter if it's a toaster or limbs.

A french survival horror thriller that sees a mysterious black fog cover the doors and windows of an apartment building leaving the many tenants blocked off from the outside world. They try to organize themselves but things quickly devolve into chaos as fear, panic, racism, and basic primal instincts become the norm.

The black fog trapping everyone inside the tower block takes a backseat to all the divisive fuckery going on inside the tower block. Eating cats and dogs becomes the norm. Racism seems to quickly divide everyone right off the bat which is sad and pathetic. Drugs, violence, sex, stealing, etc. It's dark, brutal, bleak, and nihilistic with a bunch of shitty characters doing shitty things to eachother.

Jamais été aussi mal à l'aise devant un film, jamais eu autant envie de sortir d'une salle de cinéma avant la fin de la projection. C'est immonde, de loin la chose la plus irregardable que j'ai jamais vue. Deux répliques à retenir : "c'est quoi cette merde ?" et "c'est le néant", deux répliques chacune plus méta que l'intégralité de la saga Scream.

What happens outside of the tower apartments take a backseat to what was happening within the walls in this movie. The residents living in the trapped building take a downward spiral into their own horror filled with racism, crime, violence, and murderous intention.

The movie does a time span of how long they are trapped in the building due to the dark fog matter that will dissolve them instantly. This will be slow paced at times and heavy in the dialogue so reading the subtitles will be a given here.

As much as this movie gives the viewer some sense of bleakness and dark tones, this wasn't something new and can be found in many movies that did this trapped…

Der Auftaktfilm der Fantasy Filmfest White Nights im Februar 2023, den ich leider als ein zigsten verpasst habe und jetzt endlich nachholen konnte! :3

Im Herzen einer Stadt wachen die Bewohner eines Turms eines Morgens auf und stellen fest, dass ihr Gebäude in einen undurchsichtigen Nebel gehüllt ist, der Türen und Fenster blockiert – eine seltsame dunkle Materie, die alles verschlingt, was versucht, hindurchzugehen. (Quelle: Google)

Fängt richtig spannend an und verliert sich dann am Ende an seiner Glaubwürdigkeit. Wenn man beim sehen anfängt Sachen zu hinterfragen ist das nie gut. Die Atmosphäre hat etwas beklemmdes, ja sogar nihilistisch. Auch schön anzusehen war der optische Prozess der Charaktere und deren Zerfall. Schade, wäre mehr drin gewesen in diesem ganzen NICHTS!…

Omg ce film signe ma rupture avec l’esprit à la fois boring et détraqué de Guillaume Nicloux qui, visiblement, fait dans le nihilisme de bas étage assumé après ses films sur houellebecq. C’est tellement tellement mal écrit, mal scénarisé, mal foutu, que ça m’a fait rire à au moins 5 reprises (avec des phrases comme « wallah frère, elle est où la canette !? » ou «T’as essayé de voler mes chenilles, sale traître »

J’avais ri aussi devant The End en 2016, c’était le même genre de ton nihilisto-ambigu (il est plus intéressant que celui-ci) mais là y a pas Gérard Depardieu pour sauver le film… 

des répliques qui me rappellent la série Marseille Un scénario qui fait passer…
