Grand Canyon Tours

One of the 7 natural wonders of the world.

As Arizona's premier tourist destination and the crowning jewel among the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon presents an awe-inspiring and commanding landscape that captivates our senses with its staggering magnitude. Grand Canyon National Park, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, sprawls across a vast expanse of 1,218,375 acres, nestled within the rugged terrain of the Colorado Plateau in northwestern Arizona. Annually, nearly five million individuals embark on a journey to behold the Grand Canyon's splendor.

A visit to Arizona would be incomplete without venturing to the Grand Canyon, a place where no photograph can truly capture its grandeur. Trekking below the canyon's rim immerses you in a profound sense of wonder. An exhilarating helicopter flight over the Canyon affords breathtaking panoramic vistas. While a leisurely drive along the rim enables you to savor the picturesque overlooks and delve into the historical structures that enrich this remarkable landscape.

In addition to these individual experiences, t360 Adventures also offers a myriad of guided tours that provide deeper insight and a richer connection to this natural wonder. Knowledgeable guides, well-versed in the canyon's geology, ecology, and history, accompany visitors on these educational journeys.

We have starting destinations all over the state including Scottsdale, Phoenix, Sedona, Flagstaff, Williams and even at the gateway to the Grand Canyon, Tusayan.

Guests will also have the option of experiencing Tlaquepaque, an outdoor arts & crafts village full of art galleries, craft shops, cobblestone paths & decorative arches.

Shopping and galleries not your thing? Alternate choices available to you as add-ons are either off-road jeep tours or guided hikes. Both options offer a more immersive backcountry experience among the famous Red Rock backdrop. In the afternoon, your guide will check you into your Uptown Sedona hotel for a relaxing night on your own where you will be in close walking distance to shops, galleries, and restaurants!

Mobility Scooter - $100

Available when making your reservation as an add-on.

Many of our Guests have physical challenges, which can limit their ability to take advantage of everything the Grand Canyon has to offer.  This simply wasn’t acceptable, so we set to work on a solution!  The mobility scooter to the rescue!

We want ALL of our Guests to have a once-in-a-lifetime adventure .  Going on walks with the more mobily family members is an important part of the adventure.  No one should be left behind.

KEEP IN MIND:   The scooter has a max weight limit of 275 pounds.  It’s fantastic for PAVED trails at the Grand Canyon. The most popular trail, the Rim Trail, is perfect for the scooter.  HOWEVER; it will not work at Antelope Canyon , or Horseshoe Bend .

Meteor Crater is located 40 miles East of Flagstaff, Arizona and is the World’s best preserved impact crater.

How does adding Meteor Crater affect your Grand Canyon Tour?

Meteor Crater is BY FAR the largest detour of all the stops.  It adds about 1.5 hours of driving and takes about 1 hour to explore.

If you’d like to see Meteor Crater, we suggest making it your ONLY stop.  This is still give you about 2 hours at the Grand Canyon.  Plenty of time to see the best-of-the-best overlooks.

Is 2 hours enough time to see everything we want to see at the Grand Canyon?

As far as the overlooks, absolutely.

NOTE: If you’re planning on doing a hike/walk, you may not be able to see the most remote overlooks in the Park.  Most of our Guests are perfectly fine with this adjustment, since their hike/walk follows the rim of the Grand Canyon.

What you’ll see – Approx. 50,000 years ago a 150 foot iron/nickel meteor blasted a hole in the ground.  At over 2.5 miles wide and 550 feet deep, standing next to it you can’t help but marvel at its size.

Our “Deluxe Package”.

We’ve combined our award winning ground tour “Premium Package” with a private charter flight over the Grand Canyon on the way back to the Phoenix Area.  You won’t find it anywhere else.  We’ve created a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience.

  • Ground Tour of the Grand Canyon
  • Private charter flight over the Grand Canyon and a flight back to Phoenix.

TRIP HOME:   Once finished with your ground tour, your Guide will take you to the Grand Canyon airport, where you’ll board your PRIVATE CHARTER .  After liftoff, your pilot will spend 30 minutes flying over the Grand Canyon before turning South for Home.

Your flight is about 1:45 minutes, including your 30 minute flight tour.  If you drove?  About 4 hours with stops.

Once arriving at the airport, your private transportation will be waiting to take you to your resort.

O ur Advantage  – We tailor your helicopter tour around your ground tour,  MAXIMIZING  your experience.

Our Approach  – Todd setout to perfectly blend the ground tour with the helicopter adventure, making BOTH BETTER.

We’ve discovered that by seeing the remote overlooks FIRST (East end of the National Park), it elevates your helicopter flight to yet another level.  Now when your Pilot points out a landmark below, we’ve already seen it from the ground.

We actually modify your ground tour to heighten your helicopter tour experience.  Rather than go into the Park through the busy South entrance, we’ll swing around the East entrance.  Starting at the East entrance allows us to start with the remote overlooks, ending at the Grand Canyon airport.

The Other Guys  – The odds are someone in your mixed group isn’t doing the helicopter tour, tossing a wrench in everyone’s day.  You’ll be dropped off at the airport, while the rest go into the park.  Both groups end up waiting, wasting valuable time.

The National Park Service has announced that the Grand Canyon National Park has officially received its International Dark Sky Park certification.

Our Approach  – We adjust our pick-up time, so you leave later.

SUMMER : From the Phoenix area, Approx. 1PM pick-up (rather than 7AM), 12:30AM return.  Sedona area, 3PM (rather than 9AM), 11:30PM return.

WINTER :  From the Phoenix area, Approx. 11AM pick-up (rather than 7AM), 10:30PM return.  Sedona area, 1PM (rather than 9AM), 11:30PM return.

todds amazing tours arizona tours

While there are several places to take in the dark, glowing sky, we focus on the more remote overlooks.  Typically, they’re less crowded.

While the entire Park is “Dark Sky” certified, we’ve found that the further away from the historic village, the better.  Many of the remote overlooks don’t have a light bulb within 20 miles.  However, it’s incredible the intense glow that can emanate from a cell phone…

The remote overlooks offer seclusion, which is perfect for stargazing.

The Other Guys  – Simply, most tour companies don’t offer a tour after dark.  Also, the mixed group tours depend on “seat volume”.  Simply, filling seats.  While AMAZING, most visitors want to go during the day.

Of course your family/group isn’t restrained by these limitations.

The Grand Canyon is 277 miles long, a mile deep, and up to 18-miles wide. Yet it still manages to startle you.

Unlike aboveground features, you don’t glimpse it off in the distance then watch it grow large and magnificent the closer you get. You don’t see the canyon at all on your approach. Not until you emerge from the forest and stand right there on the rim as the world falls away at your feet and your heart pounds a terrifying drumbeat against your chest. Gazing into the abyss, it feels like you’re peeking at God’s diary.

Nothing prepares you for the size or scale or rawness or the intensity of the colors. Nothing prepares you for the complexity of the patterns, those sloping terraces of temples and thrones, castles and domes that spill endlessly downward into ancient depths. Listen carefully because silence is louder at the Grand Canyon than anywhere else. Here’s our insider’s guide to taking a road trip to the Grand Canyon from Scottsdale.

How to get there

Bright Angel Overlook_Grand Canyon_Naylor

Grand Canyon National Park is about 4 hours from Scottsdale. If you only have a day, you may want to let an experienced guide handle logistics. Tour operators like Detours American West and Across Arizona Tours offer epic single day outings to the Grand Canyon with a range of options from which to choose. You can ride in comfort while someone else does the driving, chooses the stops, and provides insightful information. These are scenic drive-and-view excursions, especially ideal if your time or mobility is limited.

If you’re more of a DIY adventurer, here are tips to get you started.

There are two routes to the Grand Canyon’s South Rim. The south entrance is reached through Tusayan on State Route 64. To access the east entrance, travel through Cameron, also on 64, entering the park at Desert View. South Rim is open year round. (A visit to the remote and seasonal North Rim requires an additional four hours of driving.)

Grand Canyon Mules_Naylor

Despite the crowds, getting around on the South Rim proves remarkably easy thanks to a free shuttle bus system. Buses run from before sunrise to after sunset on an almost continuous loop. They follow three routes, stopping at visitor centers, overlooks, lodges, restaurants, and trailheads. Park and ride the comfy shuttles to keep road traffic to a minimum.

Better yet, plan on walking. The Rim Trail serves as a main artery. This mostly paved, 13-mile path passes through Grand Canyon Village and extends west to Hermits Rest and east to South Kaibab Trailhead at Yaki Point. Hike as far as you like and then hop on a shuttle bus to return. For most of its length, the trail lies only a few yards from the canyon edge so you’ll enjoy magnificent views. Away from the hubbub of the Village, you’ll experience a quiet personal connection to the Grand Canyon. Isn’t that why you came?

For a short hike below the rim, head down the switchbacks of Bright Angel Trail to Mile-and-a-Half Resthouse. Or descend on South Kaibab to Cedar Ridge. Both are 3-mile round-trip hikes. Wear proper shoes and carry plenty of water.

A Grand Canyon mule ride is an iconic Southwestern experience. The most accessible option, and easiest on your backside is the Canyon Vistas Mule Ride , which meanders through woodlands along the rim for 4 miles. You’ll spend two hours in the saddle, enjoy big views, and learn some lore from the wranglers—all before lunch. This trip does not descend into the canyon.

There are no bad viewpoints to witness a sunrise or sunset at the Grand Canyon. But you absolutely can’t go wrong greeting the dawn at Mather Point, Yaki Point, and Rim Worship Site. Some primo sunset viewing spots include Pima Point, Powell Memorial, Lipan Point and Desert View.

Bright Angel Bicycles & Café rents bikes, strollers, and wheelchairs, offers guided tours, and dishes up healthy food and smoothies.

Designed to resemble a European hunting lodge, elegant El Tovar Hotel is a crown jewel of the national park system. El Tovar Dining Room is a renowned fine dining restaurant with exquisite canyon views.

Bright Angel Lodge is made of log and native stone, incorporating dozens of rustic cabins just footsteps from the canyon edge. The lodge includes a restaurant, saloon, gift shop, and soda fountain. Maswik Lodge sits back from the rim about a quarter mile in the pine forest. A large lodging complex, the main building also includes a pizza pub and food court.

If you’d prefer to stay just outside the park itself, the Best Western Premier Grand Canyon Squire Inn is poised just minutes from the South Rim park entrance. The Inn’s Southwestern décor includes historical photos of the park’s early days for a taste of yesteryear. After a day at the Canyon, refuel at any of the Inn’s four restaurants, including the Canyon Room and Desert Lounge & Grill.

Sometimes the best way to enjoy a road trip is to sit back and let someone else do the driving. That way we can all be passenger princesses!

Best Stops on a Scottsdale to Grand Canyon Road Trip

biking at the grand canyon is just one thing you can do on a grand canyon scottsdale road trip

There are a number of exciting stops along the route from Scottsdale to Grand Canyon National Park.

There’s a range of fun small historic towns to check out, state parks, Native American cultural sites, and national monuments to see along the way.

Here’s our favorites that we love stopping off at every time we make this drive:

1. Tonto Natural Bridge State Park

Tonto natural bridge state park is a perfect stop on a scottsdale grand canyon road trip

Did you know that the world’s largest natural travertine bridge is in the small town of Payson, Arizona? Well, now you do! The Tonto Natural Bridge is a tunnel-like phenomenon standing 183 feet high, 150 feet wide, and more than 400 feet long.

At the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, you’ll find three hiking trails, a picnic area, and a community area. While hiking the trails, keep your eyes peeled for deer, rabbits, and javelinas in addition to interesting insects and birds.

2. Montezuma Castle

Montezuma Castle National Monument is a great stop when driving between phoenix airport to sedona

The Southwestern U.S. has some of the most prominent Native American cultural sites in the world. And luck you! One of the most famous sites is right along the Grand Canyon Scottsdale Drive.

Montezuma Castle, a 20-room cliff-dwelling, is the third National Monument in Arizona established to preserve Native American culture. The cliff dwelling sits atop a towering limestone cliff overlooking a forest of white-bark Arizona sycamore trees.

To access the cliff dwelling, an easy 1/3-mile trail leads up to its base. Along the paved route, you’ll spot the magnificent 900-year-old structure that stands as the legacy of the Sinagua tribe.

View of Red Rocks in sedona

Sedona is one of the most famous and popular destinations in Arizona — and for good reason. Not only is the landscape surrounding this region breathtaking, but it’s also literally pure magic.

The surrounding red rocks are peppered with vortexes, a unique geological phenomenon. Many believe these vortexes also have spiritual, physical, and emotional effects when in close proximity to them.

For nature lovers, there are plenty of outdoor activities to include on your Sedona itinerary. Of course, the hiking in Sedona is top notch and if you visit in the rainy months you’ll be in for a treat with the Sedona waterfalls coming to life.

Sedona is also a great place to stop over and spend the night on your Scottsdale to Grand Canyon drive. If you don’t want to break the bank, check out our favorite camping spots in Sedona .

4. Flagstaff

Looking for an affordable stopover destination on your Scottsdale to Grand Canyon road trip? Flagstaff is a great option. Flagstaff is brimming with art, culture, history, and plenty of natural beauty.

Welcoming nearly 6 million annual visitors, popular attractions include the Lowell Observatory, the Pioneer Museum, and Mother Road Brewing Company.

If you’re craving outdoor adventure, both the nearby Walnut Canyon and Wupatki National Monuments are great ways to explore the surrounding landscape.

These landmarks provide remarkable views of cliff dwellings and geographical formations of the Ponderosa Highlands. Other noteworthy outdoor attractions in Flagstaff include Buffalo Park and Coconino National Forest.

5. Sunset Crater National Monument

view of the edge of sunset crater national monument

The remnants of a violent volcano eruption more than 1,000 years ago, today, the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument sits in eerie silence as a massive landscape of lava flow.

The site draws more than 165,000 annual visitors and is the second most popular attraction in Arizona behind the Grand Canyon.

The former cinder cone volcano is only one of 600 in the entire U.S.! If you’re worried about the possibility of another explosion, don’t. These types of volcanoes only erupt once in their existence before going dormant.

During your visit, be sure to explore sites like the Bonito Lava Flow, and the educational Visitors Center, or climb to the top of Lenox Crater Volcano.

6. Prescott

prescott lake with rocks jutting out of the water

If you don’t mind a slight detour, the quaint city of Prescott is certainly worth a visit. Known for its authentic ‘wild west’ cowboy culture , it also boasts prized museums, art galleries, local shops, eateries, and outdoor adventure.

In fact, Prescott is home to numerous lakes, hiking trails, recreational areas, and golf courses.

For a day on the water, head to Lynx Lake, Goldwater Lake, or Watson Lake. All are perfect for boating, fishing, swimming, and nature watching.

If you prefer to stick to land, you can hike around any of the nearby lakes, or head to Thumb Butte Trail #33 in the Prescott National Forest for a moderate 2.5-mile stroll.

After, head to a local watering hole for a craft beer or cocktail. Favorites include Ad Astra Brewing Co., Thumb Butte Distillery, and Back Alley Wine Bar.

the streets of Jerome, a perfect stop on a scottsdale to the grand canyon drive

For history lovers, the tiny town of Jerome is quite a hidden gem. While it’s referred to as a “town”, you won’t find many people living in it. In fact, it’s become one of the largest ghost towns in America .

Named a National Historic District by the U.S. government in 1967, it was once the largest producer of copper, gold, and silver in Arizona. These days, it’s home to less than 500 people.

Even though it’s small, it certainly packs a cultural punch. It’s still popular among tourists who are keen to learn about Verde Valley’s former mines, local wines, and fine arts. Jerome is home to six amazing wineries within the Valley Wine Region.

A few of the most popular wineries include Caduceus Cellars, Cellar 433, and its namesake, Jerome Winery.

8. Grand Canyon North Rim

view of the grand canyon north rim which is a great addition to any road trip

Another stop that is a little out of the way is the Grand Canyon North Rim. If you plan to make the Scottsdale to Grand Canyon north rim drive, factor in another 2 hours at least.

Grand Canyon’s north rim is a great part of the canyon to see if you’re looking for a serene experience away from the crowds .

It’s also a unique part of the canyon and will give you totally different views than if you were to see the canyon from the south rim or from the west rim.

Checking out the north rim would be a great stop on a Scottsdale to Sedona to Antelope Canyon itinerary as it’s along the way to your final destination.
