Koh Samui is Thailand’s second-largest island, located in the Gulf of Thailand and is the queen in the trio of popular islands here, with the other two being Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.

The size of this idyllic island allows for a huge diversity in the lush landscapes here, from mountainous jungle in the centre to sprawling coconut plantations in the flats.

While it is a popular getaway for couples in Thailand thanks to its romantic appeal, for those of us who love adventure to fill the day there is an abundance of awesome Koh Samui day trips and tours to make the most of your time here.

The minute you start to make plans to leave your accommodation, the very first thing you should do is book a Koh Samui day trip to Ang Thong Marine Park.

Located just 30km east of Koh Samui, the Ang Thong Marine Park is a stunning archipelago of 42 islands, and a day trip out to explore the park is one of the best adventures you can do while you’re here.

A typical Koh Samui tour of Ang Thong Marine Park will allow you to explore some of the best islands to visit near Koh Samui and epic viewpoints in the archipelago, including Mae Koh Island, home to the stunning Emerald Lagoon.

There are a number of ways to get out there, all with local tour operators, but we personally recommend booking a trip that uses a speedboat rather than a longtail boat.

A speedboat gets you from Koh Samui to the park faster, giving you more time to explore on your day trip.

Once you’ve made the journey across the sea from Koh Samui, the first stop is usually Koh Wao Yai or Koh Tay Plow, where you’ll get to snorkel in the crystal clear waters and coral reefs.

Your boat captain will then take you on a short sightseeing cruise around the archipelago before dropping the passengers off at Mae Koh Island for a short yet steep trek up to the viewpoint above Emerald Lagoon.

The landlocked Emerald Lake (also known as the Blue Lagoon) fills up from an underwater cave. You’re not allowed to swim in it because it’s a protected area, but it’s still beautiful to see!

Next it’s time to cruise onto the other side of the island and tackle what may just be the most difficult, yet rewarding, climb in the area – the Pha Jun Jaras Viewpoint.

Hundreds (or is it thousands?) of steps cut up the ridge of one of the highest points on the island, weaving through dense forest and intermittently broken up with lookouts along the way. The 500m length might not sound so bad, but you gain 250m in elevation.

As tough as it is, we highly recommend pushing on to the top, as the views you’ll get are beyond sensational, looking down on the archipelago and out to the endless horizon.

Once you’ve snapped your shots from the top head back down, take a dip and if you still have energy jump in a sea kayak for a paddle around the beach.

By now you’ve likely worked up an appetite, and luckily lunch is just around the corner.

Your speedboat will motor along to Koh Phaluai in the Angthong Marine Park for an enormous spread of delicious food, served out in the open and surrounded by palm trees and hornbill birds.

The island is still inhabited by sea-gypsies who earn a living from fishing. You can either take a sea kayak around or just relax on the secluded beach, Son Pee Hong Beach.

On this island the locals protect the amazing hornbills, so they hang out without any fear. Such cool little birds.

After your meal, it’s time to head back to Koh Samui, just in time for sunset drinks!

These full day tours include transport, an English-speaking guide the national park fee required for the shore excursion and your delicious lunch, but be sure to bring along extra snacks if you need, and sunscreen.

Much to most people’s surprise when they visit the island, one of the best Koh Samui tours isn’t just about being out on the water.

One of our absolute favourite tours heads inland instead, exploring the vast interior of the mountainous paradise.

The 4WD Wild Jungle Safari Tour is an incredible adventure land tour that takes you to a side of Koh Samui that most visitors never see

Also known as the Eco Jungle Tour, we knew we really wanted to do this Koh Samui day trip before we booked our most recent adventures in Thailand, and it didn’t disappoint. This tour operator runs an excellent day trip that gets reat reviews.

Picked up from our hotel by our driver Mr Soot and fantastic local guide Nina, the plan was to explore a more local side of Samui Island filled with culture, landscapes and secret gardens.

We started the day off with a visit to some local temples in Koh Samui, including the Big Buddha Temple and Wat Plai Laem.

It’s so important to learn about the country’s culture, religion and people when you travel, and we were blown away at the intricacies and beauty of these temples.

Having a tour guide was well worth it, as Nina explained the subtle details in the architecture and how everything had a meaning and story behind it.

Next it was time to head into the mountains of Koh Samui, but before we gained too much elevation we stopped by a coconut plantation run by a local family.

The family are expert coconut harvesters (husking over 1000 coconuts in a single day’s work!), and we had a chance to watch the masters in action, and even try our hand at husking our own coconut.

Climbing into the misty mountains of Koh Samui is an adventure in itself, and we were thankful we were travelling in a 4×4, as the road was extremely steep, muddy and rutted.

After a break at a high lookout, the driver pointed to the seats on the roof of the 4×4 and asked if we wanted to sit on top for an adrenaline-filled drive to the summit.

Of course we couldn’t say no, so strapping in for the ride we hit the road, bouncing around, ducking under vines and laughing the whole way.

The rest of the day was filled with more visits to temples (including the highest one on Koh Samui), a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, and a wander around a rubber-tree farm.

One of the highlights was exploring the Buddha’s Magic Garden, a private nature park built deep in the forest of Koh Samui.

After a stop off at Namuang Waterfall we saw the bizarre rock formations around the Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks before being dropped off back at the hotel.

It was an action-packed day, filled with a healthy mix of culture, nature and adventure. Definitely one of the best Koh Samui tours you can do on the island!

If you haven’t had enough of being out on the water, this is a great island tour if you want to see more of the stunning locations around Koh Samui.

A day trip out to Koh Nang Yuan and Koh Tao is an 8-hour adventure, so be prepared for an early start. It’s worth rising for though!

This Koh Samui tour heads out to the gorgeous island of Koh Tao (Turtle Island) by speedboat, which is a true laidback paradise.

Once you arrive on Koh Tao (check out our full guide on what to do there if you have more time) you’ll discover the spectacular coral reef at Hin Wong by going snorkelling, or one of the other bays nearby if conditions are right.

Snorkelling gear is supplied by the company, but you’re also welcome to bring your own to Koh Tao if you have it.

After some time exploring the underwater world of Koh Tao, the tour will head to the sandbar beaches of Koh Nang Yuan .

This small island off of Koh Tao is known for its amazing snorkelling, diving and beautiful white sandy beaches.

The sandbar between Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan was formed by ocean currents pushing between the 3 small peaks, loading sand up to connect them all together.

If you’re interested (and you should be), climb to the top of the Koh Nang Yuan viewpoint first. That way you’ll get the sweaty hike out of the way, and can enjoy a cool, refreshing swim after.

It takes about 15 minutes to get to the top and the view is lovely, being the most famous one in Koh Nang Yuan.

Keep in mind that even though it’s one of the best Koh Samui day trips, it is a long day, so make sure you have at least a light breakfast before heading out, and take some seasickness tablets before departing if needed.

Pack sunscreen, your swimming suit, a hat, sarong or towel, and some footwear for the hike.

Most Koh Nang Yuan and Koh Tao tours include a Thai buffet lunch and water, and we highly recommend booking this particular one.

Once the trip ends you’ll be transported from Koh Tao back to your hotel in Koh Samui. Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan are two of the most beautiful Thai islands so don’t miss this opportunity!

The Samui Elephant Sanctuary was opened in 2018 by local conservationist Maew Suriya, and since its creation, the sanctuary has rescued 14 elephants from the tourist-trekking and riding industry around Thailand.

It’s well-known by now that the elephant tourism industry in Southeast Asia has sadly resulted in the torture and deaths of countless animals, but thankfully a number of reputable sanctuaries have stepped in to protect these beautiful creatures.

Samui Elephant Sanctuary is one of the good ones, and here you can book in for a half day tour on Koh Samui to see the fantastic work they are doing and to learn about their rescued elephants.

Joining the morning or afternoon tour, you’ll prepare nutritious snacks to feed the elephants, and observe them wandering around their secluded environment.

There is no riding or bathing of the elephants here. Instead the elephants live a happy life under the protection of their mahouts, who keep them safe and cared for.

Seeing an elephant in Thailand is on a lot of visitor’s bucket lists, but please make sure you visit an ethical sanctuary like this one that doesn’t offer elephant rides.

This was one of the Koh Samui tours we would have loved to do, but unfortunately ran out of time. We were told about it by another traveller though and it sounds incredible!

We’ve done a few cooking classes around Thailand, specifically in Chiang Mai and Bangkok, and they are always a great day out.

Here on Koh Samui with this small group cooking school (limited to 6 people maximum) you learn about the traditional methods used to create some of the most popular Thai dishes, and you prepare everything in their well-equipped kitchen.

First you’ll visit a local market in Koh Samui to tour around and select your ingredients. Then you head to the local home to dive into the experience.

This isn’t about kicking back and watching the chef make the meals for you. Instead you choose from four traditional Thai dishes and are given hands-on instructions to make it all yourself under the friendly eye of a local professional.

You’re sure to have lots of laughs as you cook up a storm, and you’ll even finish off with a Thai dessert.

Hotel transfers, ingredients, cooking lessons with the expert chef and meals are included in this tour, and you’ll be given a recipe book to take home with you too.

Those are our favourite Koh Samui tours, but there really is a lot more you can do if you have more time on the island.

This adrenaline-fuelled day out is one of the most popular day trips on Koh Samui.

Explore the interior of the island on an ATV, crossing streams, sliding around on dirt roads and checking out some of the best scenery away from the coast.

This one isn’t really a day trip, as you need to spend the night on Koh Phangan . But if you like to dance, then why not do it at Thailand’s most (in)famous party on Koh Phangan?

A short boat ride away from Koh Samui and Koh Tao is Koh Phangan, another stellar tropical island with some of the best landscapes in the country.

Koh Phangan is a perfect getaway for those that love wellness and yoga, which is why we went there. But it’s also known for the huge raves that happen under the full moon.

Whether you want to party or just relax, Koh Phangan is an excellent stop before or after Koh Samui or Koh Tao.

There are a lot of other magical islands and beaches to explore around Koh Samui other than Koh Tao. You could spend days on day trips to all the gems in the Gulf of Thailand.

One of the more popular islands nearby is Koh Tan (or Koh Taen). Part of the Koh Samui Archipelago, Koh Tan is a small and stunning island just 5km south of Koh Samui. It’s also great for snorkeling.

Many day trip boat tours that visit Koh Tan also visit Koh Madsum, which is just a 10 minute boat ride from Ko Samui. Also known as the ‘Pig Island’, Koh Madsum (or Koh Mudsum), is a haven for snorkelling and swimming.

The sand on Koh Madsum is pure white, the water is refreshing and clear, and the island is home to a sanctuary of rescued pigs. It’s one of the most interesting Koh Samui day trips!

You can even fly directly from Delhi to Phuket onboard GoFirst, Thai Airways, IndiGo among others, with the average flight time being 4 hours and 30 minutes. Q. Which is the best beach destination in Thailand? A. There are several Thailand holiday packages to choose from. But you need to first decide the main purpose of your visit to Thailand, whether it is to experience the street scene, shopping or lazing on its balmy beaches. If it is the latter, you will be left spoilt for choice. Thailand has some stunning beaches lapped by azure waters. Thailand’s beaches are ideal whether you are a solo traveller, a large family, a group of friends or a honeymooning couple. The beach destinations cater to backpackers as well as the elderly and those travelling with children. Powdery white sands, limestone karsts, cosy coves and coconut palms characterise a typical Thai beach where diving, snorkelling and cave exploration opportunities galore, and where the life at a resort centres around the beaches. Krabi is known for its sea cliffs and the tropical vegetation that cover them, also popular with cliff climbers. Surfing enthusiasts prefer the waters of Koh Lipe while the kite-boarders like it at Hua Hin, with divers choosing Koh Tao for the opportunities it offers to spot whale sharks and other tropical fish. Phi Phi Islands, Pattaya and Phuket are ideal for beach bums who prefer to go for a lazy swim and generally soak up the sun while reading a book. For some holistic healing and breathtaking coastal scenery, go nowhere other than Koh Samui. The sunsets on the beach, the seafood offerings and the scope for endless walks make it a perfect retreat. Q. What is the climate of Thailand like? A. Thailand has three seasons, the summer, the monsoon and the winter. Summer begins from March and lasts through June with temperatures hovering between 33 and 48 degree Celsius in the day and plummeting to 27 degree Celsius in the night. The rainy months between July and November receive frequent to heavy rainfall towards early evening with temperature averaging around 32 degree in the day and a pleasant 16 degree Celsius in the nights. The winter or dry season between late November through February has day temperature hovering around 32 degree while the nights can be cool at 12 degree Celsius. This is invariable the most preferred season to visit Thailand. Q. Is it safe to drink the local water in Thailand? A. Bottled water is preferred not just by the tourists but the locals as well. Also in the hotels, shops and restaurants as well as most tourist landmarks English is easily understood and spoken. Q. Can I buy a local SIM card in Bangkok for my phone? A. It is very easy to procure one. You can buy a SIM card from a local Thai network provider and this can be used for placing both local and international calls. At the point of sale you will have to produce an identification proof such as passport. You can buy these phone cards even from the 7/11 outlets. Q. What are some important cultural do’s and don’ts in Thailand? A. Thai folks are polite and peace-loving and look down upon open confrontations. Also, do not show your impatience or frustration because it is considered a sign of weakness. The Thais believe that all conflicts and issues can be solved with a smile. At a temple you are required to wear a full leg covering pants or skirt. Women should not touch monks and everybody is expected to remove their shoes while entering a local’s house or a temple. PDA too is frowned upon. The Thais typically do not shake hands as well. Wai is the most common form of greeting said by folding your hands together. Q. What are the requirements of a Thai tourist visa? A. The documents required include a passport with at least a six month validity. A visa application form correctly filled out, your recent passport size photograph, your round trip air tickets and financial proof that you have 20,000 Thai Baht per person and 40,000 Thai Baht per family in your kitty. These documents need to be submitted to your nearest Thai embassy or consulate. The tourist visa ranges from three to six months. Q. What is the most commonly used currency in Thailand? A. Thai Baht is the national currency of Thailand. 1 Thai Baht is equal to approximately 2.23 Indian Rupees. You need substantial local currency to get around in Thailand because USD is not commonly accepted here. Ensure you have sufficient funds in your multi-currency card and some cash. It is better to purchase the Thai Baht locally as you will get a better rate here than in your home country. Q. Is it okay to bargain for anything I want to buy in Thailand? A. When an item comes with a price tag you are not expected to bargain. Although bargaining is central to the Thai shopping experience, make sure you have a healthy approach towards it. Don’t go at it tooth and nail, ensure that both you and the vendor reach a price that is comfortable to both parties involved. Hard bargaining is considered rude. Bangkok’s Sukhumvit district usually marks up the prices and you can get them to give you a good 60% discount. At other places around 10% is acceptable. Q. How should I pack for a Thailand holiday? A. Depends on the season in which you are visiting. In the monsoon months make sure you bring rain gear, closed shoes etc. In the dry winter season, get cotton clothes, but make sure you have some long-sleeved ones too with conservative necklines and full pants or skirts for visiting the temples. Beaches are of course another story. In the dry season, for the evenings, you could get a shrug or something slightly warm to keep you cosy when the temperature dips to a 12 degree Celsius. Q. Are there are direct flights from India to Thailand? A. Yes, from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhoomi or Don Mueang Airport there are direct flights by IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India, Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia among others. The best resort wellness packages to kickstart your 2024 resolutions

"New year, new you." That's the motto, right? January is the month when we set our intentions for the year. Be it drinking less, making it to the gym more often, eating healthier or doing a digital detox, this is the time when wellness takes center stage.

Combining your passion for travel with new health goals is certainly a more enticing way to begin your new-me journey than signing up for a new gym membership or a 1,500-calorie-a-day meal plan.

From infrared, vibrating sound bath tables in Miami to a bespoke immersive experience in a Costa Rica Blue Zone to toning and detoxing while staying in an overwater bungalow in French Polynesia , these properties are running January wellness packages designed to reset your mind, body and spirit and help you keep those 2024 New Year's resolutions.

Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort, French Polynesia

If staying in an overwater bungalow in French Polynesia is on your 2024 bucket list, you can combine it with a wellness escape at the Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort. I love this property because it offers a luxury overwater bungalow experience that isn't (quite) as expensive as the lavish properties on neighboring Bora Bora.

Moorea, where this Sofitel is located, has the same gorgeous turquoise lagoon with sublime snorkeling and diving, and it's easier to reach — just an eight-hour flight from Los Angeles to Papeete in Tahiti and then a 30-minute ferry ride to paradise (rather than another flight).

The resort also offers some of Moorea's biggest overwater bungalows on one of the island's prettiest beaches. Each of the bungalows features polished wood floors, French-meets-Polynesian design and decor, and glass floor panels in the living room to watch the marine life below. The decks have direct access to the lagoon, as well as an outdoor Jacuzzi to induce relaxation. If you want to save some cash, the beachfront bungalows also have access to the same lagoon, just on foot instead of via a ladder.

This January, Sofitel Moorea is running two signature Wellness Escapes from its Le Jardin Spa that incorporate natural ingredients grown on-site. The first package is a 160-minute spa experience that focuses on toning and detoxing. It includes an aromatic orange-vanilla salt bath, foot reflexology with lymphatic drainage, an invigorating orange scrub and an 80-minute activating and toning massage at the end.

If you want to focus on your skin, then check out the Skin Protection Treatment package. The 140-minute experience includes a facial, an aromatic green tea salt bath, a scalp massage and a hair mask, all culminating with a relaxing massage using unrefined coconut oil.

How to book : Nightly beachfront bungalow rates at the Sofitel Moorea Kia Ora Beach Resort start from $600 per night, while overwater bungalows will set you back at least $929 per night. Signature Wellness Escapes cost an additional $412.

Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Riviera Maya, Mexico

Of all the resorts in the Mayakoba development on Mexico's Caribbean coast, the Banyan Tree is my favorite. I love the Asian design flourishes, including a pagoda-style lobby and a pond filled with water lilies. Located on an idyllic stretch of white sand lapped by turquoise waters, the property is backed by lush mangrove forests, giving it a tranquil ambience that's perfect for an unplugged wellness getaway.

The resort is starting off the year with a Ways of Well package that combines a peaceful stay in a Wellbeing Sanctuary Pool Villa with spa treatments and well-being experiences, such as sun salutations and stretching classes, to help travelers reconnect with themselves, others and nature. The package, which requires a minimum three-night stay in the villa, includes a daily healthy breakfast, an afternoon nutrition platter, yoga, meditation and a 60-minute Sleep Essentials massage for two.

The Banyan Tree's Wellbeing Sanctuary Villas also come with private, heated swimming pools and outdoor soaking tubs. They have elegant Thai-inspired wellness amenities like a singing bowl to induce a sense of harmony. The on-site restaurants are also excellent, especially the signature Thai restaurant.

How to book : Double occupancy rates for the three-night Ways of Well package at Banyan Tree Mayakoba start at around $3,400. If you have The Platinum Card® from American Express , you can also book Banyan Tree Mayakoba through the American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts portal for a slew of elite benefits.

Carillon Miami Wellness Resort

If your intention is to sleep better in 2024, head to the Carillon Miami Wellness Resort in Florida this January for a four-night Sleep Well Retreat.

The resort partnered with bespoke mattress company Bryte to launch the four-night package that includes a stay in a one-bedroom apartment with one of Bryte's high-tech Balance Smart Beds, which can be adjusted to your own preferred level of firmness. I had the chance to experience this package just before the holidays. I'll admit that I arrived pretty skeptical about the bed's game-changing attributes but left more refreshed than I've felt all year.

The package also includes the Sleep Well Circuit of wellness treatments that use electromagnetic, vibroacoustic and infrared therapies to aid relaxation, help set intentions and increase energy flow.

I was again dubious when I climbed onto the Vemi table — one of the wellness treatments in the circuit — but, sure enough, I was transported into a deep meditative state thanks to a sound bath performed in conjunction with full-body vibrations and infrared heat.

The Carillon also has a fabulous location right on North Beach, complete with sun loungers and food and beverage service for guests. The Sleep Well Retreat package is just one of several packages the resort is offering through January.

If you are looking for a more intensive new year reboot, the Carillon is also running a Renew You Full Day Retreat with bespoke eight-hour experiences that include guided reflections, meditation, a cacao ceremony, conscious breathing work, intentional goal setting and sound healing. You don't need to be a guest at the resort to book this retreat either.

How to book : Rates for the four-night Sleep Well Retreat at the Carillon Miami Wellness Resort start at $2,598. The Renew You Full Day Retreat is available for an additional $975 from Jan. 1 to 31.

Hotel Nantipa, Santa Teresa, Costa Rica

Das Edelweiss Salzburg Mountain Resort, Grossarl, Austria

Das Edelweiss is one of my favorite spa and wellness resorts I visited in 2023. Located in the tiny mountain village of Grossarl, about an hour's drive south of Salzburg, the scenery here looks straight out of "The Sound of Music," with snowcapped mountains and forested hills sloping into lush green valleys.

Austria 's scenery alone can soothe your soul, but when you factor in the state-of-the-art spa and wellness center, you're guaranteed the ultimate rejuvenation experience at this resort, which is now in its third generation of family ownership.

Covering multiple floors, the wellness center's rooftop, adults-only spa is home to an indoor hydrotherapy pool with mesmerizing views and seven distinct saunas and steam baths of varying temperatures and styles, from Finnish to infrared.

Outside on the sun deck, more views abound. Plus, you'll find a hot tub, a cold plunge pool and the largest and hottest sauna on the property with floor-to-ceiling glass walls.

More spa amenities and pools await on the other floors. If you are including the whole family in your wellness getaway, there are kid and teen zones complete with an indoor pool and a waterslide park.

Das Edelweiss sits adjacent to a local mountain, so if you are visiting in winter, you can also incorporate skiing into your wellness routine (lift tickets are still very affordable here).

Rooms and suites are kitted out with cozy Alpine-style furnishings. Other on-property amenities include grand public spaces with traditional wood and stone decor and a few dining options.

This January, Das Edelweiss is offering a Mountain Spa Moments package that includes access to the mountain spa, a 50 euro ($55) voucher to use on spa treatments and one of the best breakfast buffets in Europe.

Miraval Austin

For an all-inclusive wellness retreat, consider the New Year Renew Year package at Miraval Austin. This adults-only resort (bookable using World of Hyatt points) sits in the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, just a 30-minute drive from Austin's city center.

Set on 220 rolling acres on the shores of Lake Travis, it's a true wellness haven, with spa-inspired rooms appointed with in-room Himalayan singing bowls and meditation pillows.

The package includes accommodations, all meals, nonalcoholic beverages, gratuities, shared airport transport and a nightly $175 resort credit that can be applied to any spa treatment or fee-based activities.

Miraval has a long list of daily activities (sign up in advance, they book out!), some of which are included and others that cost extra. Free activities feature everything from cardio drumming to Pilates fusion and TexZen yoga. If horses are what heal you, the equine program here is excellent. A certified equine specialist offers private Rhythmic Riding sessions and other workshops.

At the award-winning Live in Balance Spa, you can choose from a range of innovative treatments. One is Sukha, a Thai-inspired aerial bodywork session based on guided aerial movements while participants are wrapped in strong silk fabrics to facilitate deeper muscle stretches.

Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary & Holistic Spa, Koh Samui, Thailand

January is peak season on beautiful Koh Samui, a famous island in the Gulf of Thailand that's easy to access via direct flights from Bangkok.

You can escape the crowds and focus on your mental and physical well-being with a wellness package at Kamalaya. A hippy, chill vibe prevails throughout the property, and the lush grounds are beautifully landscaped. The architectural style is classically elegant, with thatched roof and teak buildings that blend into the natural environs.

The resort sits on Laem Set beach on Koh Samui's south side, which is far from the prettiest on the island, but you don't come here for the sea. The 76-room, American-owned enclave on a coconut palm-strewn coastline is known for its wellness programs, which run for three, five, seven, nine or 14 nights and include numerous treatments (the longer you stay, the more you get).

The three-night package comes with eight treatments, including a body bio-impedance analysis, a lotus scrub, a traditional Asian foot massage, a vital essence oil massage and a traditional Thai massage, among others. Rates also cover all meals, airport transfers and a wellness consultation.

Castle Hot Springs, Morristown, Arizona

The Arizona desert is a soul-soothing place in January, and there's no better wellness resort to reset your mind and body than Castle Hot Springs.

Located at the edge of the Bradshaw Mountains, the resort has been welcoming travelers since the late 1800s. During the 20th century, it was one of the most glamorous hot spring resorts in America, attracting everyone from former President John F. Kennedy to the Vanderbilts and the Rockefellers.

Castle Hot Springs is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World (but does not participate in the Hyatt partnership ) and is all-inclusive (with spa treatments, some activities and alcoholic beverages costing extra).

Recently, the property underwent a massive renovation, preserving historical buildings while adding modern amenities. Guests here can also expect a smorgasbord of outdoor activities, ranging from guided hikes to pickleball and farm tours.

The Wellness Through Water package is designed to maximize the benefits of the mineral-rich hot spring pools. The package requires a three-night stay and includes accommodation in either a Spring Bungalow or Sky View Cabin, all meals, gratuities and a $25 per person, per night beverage credit. The food here is nutritious, delicious farm-to-table fare and includes five-course dinner tasting menus.

The package also covers a 60-minute Watsu treatment per person and a 60-minute water element trio of yoga, meditation and breathing work per room. Many resort activities are part of the rates, too, as is unlimited access to the hot springs.

Majestic Hotel & Spa, Barcelona

If your New Year's resolution includes spending more time with your dog (I would argue a pup is the key to mental well-being), the Majestic Hotel in doggo-obsessed Barcelona is running a wellness package this January. This lavish grande dame hotel on Barcelona's most famous shopping street also welcomes canines with its Very Important Pup package.

I stayed here recently while getting my dog, Poppy, her European Union pet passport, and we both loved everything about this property. The Majestic exudes old-world elegance throughout and houses an extensive art collection.

While many parts of Europe are cold and gray in winter, Barcelona, which has a balmy Mediterranean climate year-round, is an exception. Highs average in the 60s Fahrenheit, and lows are in the high 40s.

The Majestic's wellness package starts with a sunrise yoga class at its rooftop terrace bar, where you'll enjoy jaw-dropping, panoramic city views. You'll follow it up with the hotel's award-winning breakfast experience (it has been called the best hotel breakfast in Europe).

Afterward, it is on to the spa for a private hydrotherapy circuit followed by a luxurious two-hour body and facial treatment. I tried both and fell quickly into a state of bliss — and my skin looked 10 years younger after that facial. The day of indulgence culminates with a farm-to-table concept lunch at the house restaurant, SOLC.
