Though born and bred in North Carolina, Luke Combs is a down-home country singer who made his first big debut in New York City. Combs has been serious about music his entire life, making his voice known in vocal groups since he was a little kid.

Blessed with raw talent, his powerful sound landed him a solo performance in the fabled Carnegie Hall while he was still in high school.

Of course, city slicking wasn’t in Luke’s plans. He dropped out of college in his senior year and moved to Nashville, the epicenter of his beloved country genre, where he concentrated on improving his guitar-playing and songwriting skills. After honing his stage presence in countless live performances, he self-released key songs on early EPs including the single “Hurricane.”

Garnering audience buzz, Combs caught the attention of River House/Columbia Nashville, his first big recording contract. Reworking “Hurricane” for radio gave Combs his first hit, selling 15,000 copies and hitting #46 on the Billboard Country chart. This led to singing with Sony Music Nashville, and one more re-release of “Hurricane.” His debut album release, 2017s This One’s For You, solidified Combs’ status by reaching number one on the chart.

Comb’s next big hit was an evolution from “Hurricane’s” slow-burn buildup to the moving ballad “Beautiful Crazy” in 2018. The song charted at number one for almost two months and played a huge role in his becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry. It also helped him hit a huge milestone in becoming the first artist to hit Billboard's top country charts at the same time: Top Country Albums, Hot Country Songs, Country Airplay, Country Streaming Songs, and Country Digital Song Sales.

Luke then hit the road hard and built up a fanbase on the back of his energetic, dominating performances, revealing his skill in capturing his audiences in ways few artists do. From 2017 to the present, Combs has relentlessly toured, both as headliner and in support of other artists like Lainey Wilson and Cody Johnson. His exclusive live performances on platforms like Apple Music have further cemented his reputation as a solid live act.

In the midst of all that stage time, Luke Combs continues to create new music. In 2019, he dropped what was destined to be another number one country album, What You See Is What You Get. Proving once again his ability to please country music fans, Combs charted more hits like “Even Though I’m Leaving,” “Does to Me,” and the crowd-pleasing “Beer Never Broke My Heart.”

The unstoppable Combs brought it again in 2022. His Growin’ Up LP once again made number one on the country charts with hits like “Doin’ This” and “The Kind of Love We Make.” Combs balances a bold new confidence with reflective humility, while his audiences continue to feel close to a singer who, despite being more popular than ever, yet never forgets where he came from.

Live reviews

Luke Combs & his band put on an awesome show last night. Although the host, band and audience were in a generally somber mood due to the Las Vegas incident, once the “taping” portion of the show was complete, Luke says to us “Alright, this is MY show now”, and they rocked! Was able to see him preparing to walk onto the stage and honestly, he looked a little nervous, but it was really cute to see he was human. When he was center stage, he performed like a well-seasoned professional.

His voice live...my gosh...no words.

After the show, met one of his guitarist’s and he actually reached out to shake my hand and introduce himself!

As Los Angeles doesn’t really seem to be a high priority for up and coming country acts, I feel VERY fortunate to have seen these guys so early in their career.

The show was awesome, there were several good guys! I love Luke and Brantley, they are a great combination!I would love to see Luke again soon in Alabama, I missed him in Birmingham. The interaction with the crowd was great. When I bought my tickets it was to see Luke Combs, and he didn't disappoint.

Absolutely fantastic performance...Ashley Mcbryde was superb as the opener (I predict we see her on the C2C main stage before very long!)and Luke totally smashed it. Im just sorry I didn't get tickets to both nights as would have happily gone straight back tonight...

Luke Combs announces 2024 US tour: All 25 dates on the Growin' Up and Gettin' Old Tour

gigs and tours luke combs

As Luke Combs is currently out on a world tour, he's already letting his U.S. fans know when they can expect to see him again.

The reigning two-time CMA Entertainer of the Year announced a 25-show 2024 stadium tour , called the Growin' Up and Gettin' Old Tour, on Tuesday. The tour will feature different special guests depending on the date, according to a press release. Artists include Cody Jinks, Charles Wesley Godwin, Hailey Whitters and The Wilder Blue for Friday shows and Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, Drew Parker and Colby Acuff for Saturdays.

"When I found out we were going to be able to do two shows for most all of the cities on the 2024 tour, I decided I wanted each show to have their own unique set up of openers, as well as my own unique setlist," Combs said in a press release.

"I thought this would give people an opportunity to come to both nights if they want, but see two completely different shows."

Combs added, "With country music being such a wide genre and being a huge fan of it all myself, I wanted to open up my stage to acts that lean into Outlaw, Americana and Red Dirt on Friday nights, as well as having a night with people I have toured with in the past, who are more contemporary country."

"A supernatural song writer": Luke Combs praises Tracy Chapman as 'Fast Car' tops charts

Luke Combs is burning up the charts with Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car'

The performances add to yet another triumphant year for Combs, whose new version of Tracy Chapman’s Grammy-winning "Fast Car" has spent five consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. This is Combs’ 16th consecutive No. 1 single on country radio.

The song was recently certified double-platinum, has garnered over 435 million global streams and is No. 2 this week on Billboard’s Hot 100. "Fast Car" is the first song by a male solo artist to ever top both the Hot AC and Country Airplay charts.

Combs’ latest album, "Gettin' Old," is a companion to his acclaimed 2022 record, "Growin' Up." The New York Times praised the album as "grounded in country, complete with fiddle fills, but it’s also pointed toward a wide pop audience" while Billboard proclaimed, "His electrifying-yet-earthy voice soundtracking this time in his life as a husband, father and entertainer at the top of his game."

American Songwriter summed it up with, "He’s a rock star at this point."

Luke Combs rattles stadium at Jacksonville concert, ready to come back and do it again

gigs and tours luke combs

Luke Combs was midway through his Friday night show , standing front and center by himself on stage and playing one of his earliest songs, "This One's For You," just as he has in a thousand bars and clubs on his way to the top.

When he finished, a sly grin briefly crossed his face, signaling that he was as surprised as anyone to find Luke Combs headlining before 45,000 people at EverBank Stadium, and coming back the next night to do it again.

Combs poured his heart out onto the stage for nearly two hours Friday night, walking on stage to a recorded version of "Sweet Caroline" that had the crowd singing along so loud that there must have been noise complaints in San Marco.

Combs, who was playing at the Mavericks nightclub in the old Jacksonville Landing less than eight years ago, was at the top of a bill of country up-and-comers. He had four opening acts on Friday and will be back at the stadium Saturday to do it again, with a whole different cast of openers. It's fair to guess that more than a few fans who were at Friday's show were impressed enough to buy tickets for Saturday.

Saturday night: Have tickets for Luke Combs' concerts in Jacksonville? Here's what you need to know

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Next week: George Strait, Chris Stapleton in concert at EverBank Stadium. Here's what you should know

Combs isn't a high-energy, tear-around-the-stage performer like Kenny Chesney, who is also headlining stadium tours. And he doesn't have decades worth of hits like George Strait , who brings his tour to the same stadium next week. That's what makes Combs drawing 90,000-plus fans over the weekend so impressive.

Combs became the hottest thing in country thanks to smart songwriting and a band that can absolutely rock and roll. He doesn't have a great voice, but he has a powerful one that had no trouble Friday reaching the folks in the nosebleed seats. If you needed further proof that the new generation of country has arrived, just look at the cover songs he chose to include in Friday night's set. He didn't play Hank Williams or George Jones when he wanted to salute his roots, he went to Brooks and Dunn's '90s hit "Brand New Man," Ed Sheeran's "Dive," Shania Twain's "Who's Bed Have Your Boots Been Under" and Dierks Bentley's "What Was I Thinking."

Combs, a Carolina Panthers fan, wisely wore a Jaguars hat for Friday's show, running through 25 songs and sticking around on stage well after the last number had run its course, shaking hands and signing autographs with fans on the field. He had the crowd on its feet and singing along from the moment he hit the stage to "Must've Never Been Me."

There's certainly a lot more rock in Combs' music than in, say, Strait's. Other than a little banjo or fiddle or pedal steel here and there, his band could easily be backing a heavy metal singer, with the guitar players in particular throwing thunderous riffs at the stadium all night.

Friday night's show was superbly paced, building up the excitement, then giving fans a chance to catch their breath with slow numbers like the tender "Man He Sees in Me" to a sea of waving cell phone lights, then cranking it right back up with big sing-alongs like "Hurricane" or stompers like "Cold as You." The tour has been playing back-to-back nights at stadiums around the country, and fans at Saturday's show can likely expect to see a lot of the same songs performed, just in a different order.

Desperately seeking shade: Where fans can find the coolest spots at EverBank Stadium

Friday's show reached a fever pitch a little after 10 p.m. when the crowd sang along with every word to "Beautiful Crazy," then erupted at the first notes of "Fast Car," the old Tracy Chapman song that helped Combs learn to play guitar. If you could have predicted that song as a big country hit that would get 45,000 people on their feet, you probably ought to be playing the lottery more often.

The way country music develops its young artists, it's likely that one of the openers from Friday or Saturday's show is going to be headlining their own tours in the next year or two.

Who opened for Luke Combs in Jacksonville?

Friday's show opened with Texas five-piece band the Wilder Blue. The band kicked off the evening with a gorgeous National Anthem, then rolled right into its brief set highlighted by a spirited "Dixie Darlin'." Maybe 20 percent of the seats were filled when the band came on.

There was very little time between acts at the show. Wilder Blue walked off and an army of roadies hit the stage immediately. Less than 10 minutes later, the stage was set up for the next act, Hailey Whitters, and the crew was already tuning her guitars. Thirty five minutes after Wilder Blue started its set, Whitters was on stage doing hers.

Whitters, the reigning Academy of Country Music Awards New Female Artist of the Year , was by far the poppiest act on Friday, working the stage in a sundress, boots, long ponytail and what looked like a pretty good sunburn. "I'm freaking out seeing all y'all here," she said as the seats steadily filled. She's a strong songwriter and kept her numbers short and sweet to squeeze in as many as she could in the 26 minutes she was allotted. "Everything She Ain't" and her new single, "I'm in Love," were highlights.

West Virginian Charles Wesley Godwin followed, opening his set with his own "Cue Country Roads" and closing it with John Denver's "Country Roads." He and his band, the Allegheny High, have clearly been playing together for a while, with a real tight delivery and a knack for walking the fine line between rock and country, setting mandolin and banjo against a heavy beat.

Cody Jinks was Friday's final opener and was maybe too big for the role. He and his band, the Tone Deaf Hippies, played for about 45 minutes, but could have gone on much longer and no one would have minded. Jinks, looking menacing dressed in black with dark shades and a ferocious beard, opened with "Fast Hand," which featured a pedal steel solo leading into an organ solo, something you're not likely to find in country music or anywhere else. He has the stage presence of a guy who has played on a million stages and it doesn't matter to him one bit if there are 20 people or 45,000 watching.

The stadium was nearly full by the time Jinks got the crowd singing along to "Mamma's Song." His new single, "Outlaws and Mustangs," has everything it needs to become a big summertime smash. He was halfway through his set before it finally got dark enough for the light show to be noticeable, around the time he was playing "Must Be the Whiskey."

Who's opening for Luke Combs's Saturday show in Jacksonville?

Saturday's show starts at 5:45 p.m. Openers are Colby Acuff, Drew Parker, Mitchell Tenpenny and Jordan Davis.

Luke Combs Announces 2023 World Tour with Opening Acts Lainey Wilson, Riley Green and Cody Johnson

Also featuring Flatland Cavalry, Brent Cobb and Lane Pittman as special guests, Luke Combs' 2023 world tour will span 35 shows in 16 countries on three different continents

Luke Combs ' travel plans for 2023 are locked in.

On Thursday, the "Forever After All" singer-songwriter, 32, announced the dates and opening acts for his upcoming 2023 world tour, which will see him perform 35 shows in 16 countries on three different continents, via Instagram .

The tour kicks off on March 25 in Arlington, Texas, and Combs will perform shows in cities including Nashville, Detroit and Chicago before concluding the U.S. leg with a show in Philadelphia on July 29. He'll then play a string of concerts across Oceania through the end of August.

At the end of September, Combs will launch a European leg of concerts, followed by several UK dates before the tour wraps in late October.

Riley Green, Lainey Wilson , Flatland Cavalry and Brent Cobb will join Combs as supporting acts for the U.S. leg of the tour, while Cody Johnson and Lane Pittman will open shows in New Zealand and Australia.

"Buddy… @lukecombs , you best not get tired of me!" quipped Wilson, 30, in an Instagram post about the tour.

Fans can visit Combs' website and join his club for information on pre-sales for the upcoming tour, while tickets go on sale for the public on Sept. 16.

Combs is currently on the road, performing shows in North America before concluding his current tour dates in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Dec. 9 and 10 — giving the musician just over three months of rest and relaxation before he sets out to travel the globe.

Last weekend, the country star made headlines for going the extra mile to help fans out when he gave a pair of young concertgoers cash to cover the cost of their tickets after discovering 12-year-old Bo Fenderson and Tanner Hale spent 10 hours stacking wood in order to make money to purchase the tickets for last Friday's show in Bangor, Maine.

While performing, Combs spotted a the boys holding a sign and read about their journey aloud from the stage, according to local NBC affiliate WCSH . At that point, he opened up his wallet and gave the pair $140 to help cover the ticket costs.

"How much were you tickets? $100? $200? Y'all paid $200, a hundred dollars apiece. Oh my God, I only got $140 right here," the singer said, according to CBS affiliate WABI . "Y'all want that, pay yourselves back. I'll get you some more."

Earlier this week, before starting his Saturday night concert at Maine Savings Amphitheater, Combs told concertgoers that he refunded everyone's tickets and would play for free due to vocal issues.

"I have to let you know that I have refunded all of your tickets. As of 7 p.m. today, a few hours ago, I realized that I was not going to be able to sing as good as I normally do," he said in a surprising announcement that was captured on video by numerous fans.

"[My voice is not] what I think it should be for you guys having to pay for it," he continued , adding: "So, we're going to put on the best free show we could put on, and I want you guys to know how upset I am to have to tell you that tonight, but all I want you to know is that we're going to do the very damn best."

Tracy Chapman tape owned by Luke Combs' father among items in exhibit coming to Country Music Hall of Fame

Country superstar luke combs will be honored with a new exhibition at the country music hall of fame opening on july 11, 2024.

gigs and tours luke combs

Grammy-winning multiple-time chart-topper and Entertainer of the Year-winning country superstar Luke Combs will be highlighted in a Country Music Hall of Fame exhibition entitled " Luke Combs: The Man I Am " open from July 11, 2024, through June 2025.

"Once I decided I wanted to do music as a career, it didn't matter if it was for 100 people or 1,000 people, I just wanted to be playing country music for anyone who would listen. If I could have enough fans to call it a job, I was set. At my core I love country music and this exhibit is as prestigious of an honor as it gets," offered the "Beer Never Broke My Heart" vocalist in a press statement.

"Few artists have experienced the kind of meteoric rise and sustained success Luke Combs has since signing his first recording contract just two years after moving to Nashville," said Kyle Young, CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. "He has earned a career-defining string of #1 singles, set new benchmarks on the music charts, won more than a dozen major country music industry awards since 2016 and sold out stadiums around the world."

The exhibition's opening continues in a series of career-redefining Music City moves for Combs.

Summer 2024 is also the scheduled opening date for Category 10 , a downtown concert hall and honky-tonk bar partnership with Opry Entertainment Group — whose name is inspired by his 2016 breakout single "Hurricane." For 30 years, the 69,000-square-foot multi-level venue was formerly the longtime Ryman-owned country bar Wildhorse Saloon.

In support of the exhibition, Combs will participate in a songwriter round in the museum's CMA Theater on July 11 at 2:30 p.m. CT. During the program, Combs will be joined by four of his songwriting collaborators — Ray Fulcher, James McNair, Drew Parker and Rob Williford — to share the stories behind and perform some of the songs they have written together.

Tickets for the event are available via the Country Music Hall of Fame's website .

The exhibition will feature the following Combs stage wear, tour memorabilia, manuscripts, set lists, instruments, photographs, posters and childhood memorabilia:

  • The cassette of Tracy Chapman’s self-titled 1988 debut album — which includes “Fast Car” — belonging to Luke Combs’s father, Lee Combs.
  • Martin GPCPA4 Sapele acoustic guitar Combs used extensively at his early performances, 2012–2014. When he moved to Nashville, Combs gave the instrument to his friend and fellow performer Adam Church.
  • Playbill from Combs’ leading role as Nathan Detroit in the musical “Guys and Dolls” during his senior year at A. C. Reynolds High School, Asheville, North Carolina.
  • CD-R of the three songs recorded for Combs’s debut EP, "The Way She Rides," signed by Combs and Adam Church and given to Church’s parents. Combs wrote on the paper sleeve, “To the Church’s / Y’all rock SO hard!”
  • Columbia PFG shirt and Swamp Assassin ball cap Combs wore in the 2016 music video for “Hurricane.”
  • Manuscript of “Six Feet Apart,” co-written by Combs, Brent Cobb and Rob Snyder on April 14, 2020.
  • Dale Earnhardt commemorative leather jacket Combs wore in honor of the famed stock car racer and team owner when he performed at Daytona International Speedway prior to the start of the NASCAR Daytona 500, Feb. 14, 2021. Earnhardt was killed on the final lap of the Daytona 500 in 2001.
  • Jersey that Combs wore when he was a member of the Rockets football team at A. C. Reynolds High School.
  • Dollar bill Combs kept as a memento from his first paying gig at Boone’s Parthenon Café, where the cover charge was $1.
  • Crosley Dansette portable record player Combs used to share his recording of “Beautiful Crazy” with Nicole Hocking, now his wife, for the first time.

Combs is burning up the charts with Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car'

The performances add to yet another triumphant year for Combs, whose new version of Tracy Chapman’s Grammy-winning “Fast Car” has spent five consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. This is Combs’ 16th consecutive No. 1 single on country radio.

The song was recently certified double-platinum, has garnered over 435 million global streams and is No. 2 this week on Billboard’s Hot 100. “Fast Car” is the first song by a male solo artist to ever top both the Hot AC and Country Airplay charts.

Combs’ latest album, “Gettin’ Old,” is a companion to his acclaimed 2022 record, “Growin’ Up.” The New York Times praised the album as “grounded in country, complete with fiddle fills, but it’s also pointed toward a wide pop audience” while Billboard proclaimed, “His electrifying-yet-earthy voice soundtracking this time in his life as a husband, father and entertainer at the top of his game.”

American Songwriter summed it up with, “He’s a rock star at this point.”

From Nicki Minaj to Olivia Rodrigo to Luke Combs, 20 top spring 2024 concerts in Milwaukee

gigs and tours luke combs

Some of the most anticipated music events of the year in Milwaukee are just around the corner.

The city's first two stadium concerts are happening in April. The first big outdoor concerts are a month later, as is the year's first multistage festival. The Milwaukee Bucks arena has 14 concerts this March through May, and the calendars are stacked for small venues like the Cactus Club, X-Ray Arcade, Shank Hall and the city's newest club, Vivarium.

Out of hundreds concerts in Milwaukee this March through May, these 20, in order of occurrence, top the list.

Mann's impeccable songwriting goes wherever the spirits move her, whether it's songs for one of the best-loved movie soundtracks of the '90s (Paul Thomas Anderson's "Magnolia"), songs inspired by the book "Girl, Interrupted" (her latest album, "Queens of the Summer Hotel") or a song about Milwaukee written with Ted Leo. What she'll actually play in Milwaukee is anyone's guess, but it's bound to be special.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

When, where, prices: 8 p.m. March 4, Turner Hall Ballroom, 1040 N. Phillips Ave. $45 to $145 at the door, the Pabst Theater box office (144 E. Wells St.) and pabsttheater.com .

The Colombian artist added to his already stuffed trophy case at the Grammys this year with his win for best Latin rock album for "Vida Cotidiana," his return to his rock roots. It's also a fine reason for a tour that includes an ultra-rare Milwaukee stop that should demonstrate why he's one of the best-selling and most beloved Latin musicians in the world.

When, where, prices: 8 p.m. March 6, Eagles Ballroom, the Rave, 2401 W. Wisconsin Ave. $33.50 to $118.50 at the box office and therave.com .

Country music's pop-culture dominance has grown in recent years, as has Milwaukee's status as a must-play country concert market . Regarding the former, Sam Hunt has been an indispensable contributor, blending hip-hop sonics and sensibilities with emotional vulnerability that paved the way for Morgan Wallen and scores of other superstars. But unlike his peers, Hunt skipped over Milwaukee tour after tour, with one show called off because of the pandemic. After nine years, the wait, finally, is over.

When, where, prices: 7:30 p.m. March 15, Fiserv Forum, 1111 N. Phillips Ave. $35.75 to $270.75 at the box office and fiservforum.com .

Olivia Rodrigo

Rodrigo's 10th show ever was in Milwaukee, in her mom's home state, with family cheering her on from the balcony, and every fan packed into the Eagles Ballroom leaving the show with a core memory. That show made clear that she would fulfill the artist-of-her-generation buzz generated by breakout ballad "Drivers License" and dynamic debut album "Guts." Her equally strong sophomore album "Sour," and another zeitgeist-seizing single "Vampire," have made Rodrigo one of the hottest live acts coming to town in years.

When, where, prices: 7:30 p.m. March 16, Fiserv Forum . Sold out. Resale seats priced between $124 and $2,000 at vividseats.com .

Zach Bryan played a sold-out American Family Insurance Amphitheater for Summerfest in July. But Milwaukee, like much of America, can't get enough of him. The following month, he announced another Milwaukee show at Fiserv Forum — and that one was a faster seller, with very, very few tickets remaining for very high prices. That's no surprise for anyone who has seen Bryan perform his gut-wrenching Americana songs — the Milwaukee show was one of our favorites last year — and this return promises new songs from his phenomenon-securing self-titled debut album.

When, where, prices: 7:30 p.m. March 20, Fiserv Forum . $290 to $471.

Fall Out Boy

When the "rock is dead" proclamations emerged in the early 2010s, Fall Out Boy, who emerged from a hiatus in 2013, managed to find radio success by embracing hip-hop-inspired production. This wasn't the Fall Out Boy that fans remembered — but now that pop punk and emo are back in vogue, the band (including Menomonee Falls native Andy Hurley on drums) smartly returned to their roots last year with the well-received album "So Much (for) Stardust."

When, where, prices: 6:30 p.m. April 2, Fiserv Forum . $95.50 to $444.

Herbie Hancock

From performing by Miles Davis' side in his quintet in 1963, Herbie Hancock went on to become a jazz great in his own right, with only the second jazz album to ever win a Grammy for album of the year Grammy. Now 83, this Pabst Theater performance marks a rare chance for Milwaukee fans to pay their respects and hear his timeless contributions.

When, where, prices: 8 p.m. April 2, Pabst Theater . $49.50 to $299.

The Last Dinner Party

Adele, Sam Smith, 50 Cent, Haim and PinkPantheress were some of the future stars selected for BBC's annual ones-to-watch "Sound Of" poll. The latest recipient: British, all-female, baroque-pop-seasoned indie-rock band The Last Dinner Party, which has been getting lots of praise for debut album "Prelude to Ecstasy" and selling out its first headlining shows, including their upcoming Milwaukee debut.

When, where, prices: 8 p.m. April 5, Turner Hall Ballroom . Sold out. Resale tickets start at $75 at stubhub.com .

Andrea Bocelli

When celebrated tenor Andrea Bocelli returned to touring for the first time after the pandemic began, Milwaukee's Fiserv Forum was the first stop. He's making his way back to the Milwaukee Bucks arena, where he'll be accompanied again by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, to commemorate the 30th year of his music career.

When, where, prices: 7:30 p.m. April 6, Fiserv Forum . $190 to $1,500.

If you think March is a great month for country concerts in Milwaukee with Hunt and Bryan, wait until April. A-listers Tim McGraw and Dan + Shay have Fiserv Forum shows, and rising star Breland is playing the city's newest venue, the intimate Vivarium, the same night as Dan + Shay. But the big country show — really, shows — belong to Luke Combs, who will kick off his 2024 stadium tour with two nights of concerts at American Family Field, each with different openers. (Cody Jinks, Charles Wesley Godwin and Wilder Blue play the first night; Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, Drew Parker and Colby Alcuff are on the second.)

When, where, prices: 5:45 p.m. April 12 and 13, American Family Field , One Brewers Way. $109 to $230 for April 12, $99 to $319 for April 13, at the box office and brewers.com .

Nicki Minaj

Since 2010, Nicki Minaj has released five albums, sold more than 100 million records, appeared on 22 Top 10 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 and earned her reputation as the "Queen of Rap." What she hasn't done, however, is headline a concert in Milwaukee, but it's finally happening on the heels of her Billboard 200 chart-topping album "Pink Friday 2."

When, where, prices: 8 p.m. April 13, Fiserv Forum . $74.50 to $695.

Indigo Girls

Nicki Minaj got some of the "Barbie" shine with her hit Ice Spice collaboration "Barbie World" — and so did the long-running folk duo Indigo Girls, whose signature song "Closer to Fine" played a major part in the blockbuster film. Expect to hear a superpowered version of that song and others at this collaborative concert with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.

When, where, prices: 7:30 p.m. April 20, Bradley Symphony Center , 212 W. Wisconsin Ave. Sold out. Resale seats start at $111 at seatgeek.com .

The Canadian band drew plenty of praise for its jangle-pop-meets-shoegaze sound on its first two albums. But its latest full-length "Blue Rev," appearing after a three-year hiatus in 2022, revved up the accolades, landing on several best-album lists, leading to this long-awaited return to Milwaukee five years after the band's last time in town.

When, where, prices: 8 p.m. April 22, Pabst Theater . $30 to $35.

Maybe Mike just doesn’t sleep? In less than a decade’s time, the rapper born Michael Bonema has released 24 albums, mixtapes and EPs. More impressive than the quantity is the quality. His releases routinely draw critical praise for his experimentation and storytelling, making Mike a cult hero for hip-hop heads seeking adventurous artists beyond the mainstream.

When, where, prices : 8 p.m. April 26, Vivarium , 1818 N. Farwell Ave. $20 to $24 at the door and through the Pabst.

History has proven it's smart to be skeptical of farewell tours, and considering most of the guys in Sum 41 are in their early 40s, it’s unlikely this run of shows is really the end. But in the wake of an ambitious “final” double album — one half pop-punk, the other metal — this is a good time for fans to say so long (or so long for now).

When, where, prices: 7 p.m. April 27, Eagles Ballroom, the Rave . $49.50 to $249.50.

Death Cab for Cutie and the Postal Service

Twenty-one years ago, electronic emo-pop band the Postal Service played their lone Milwaukee concert two months after releasing their one and only album, the seminal "Give Up." Also 21 years ago, Postal Service frontman Ben Gibbard released what would become the signature album for his primary alt-rock band Death Cab for Cutie, "Transatlanticism." Flash forward to 2024, and Milwaukee will get to see the Postal Service again, and see them share a bill with Death Cab, with the bands playing front-to-back performances of "Give Up" and "Transatlanticism," respectively. Arrive early to see Chicago-via-Madison indie-rockers Slow Pulp.

When, where, prices : 7:30 p.m. May 6, Miller High Life Theatre , 500 W. Kilbourn Ave. $59.50 to $312.50 at the door and through the Pabst.

Laura Jane Grace

A pioneering transgender advocate who came out over a decade ago, the Against Me! frontwoman explored their transition on the fearless, in-your-face "Transgender Dysphoria Blues" 10 years ago. That was the second to final Against Me! album (for now), but Grace has remained an incredibly active, invigorating and openhearted songwriter, branching out into folk and other styles across a couple of solo albums (which included a song inspired by the Rave's empty swimming pool ). Her latest solo release "Hole in My Head" confirms her rock chops are as blistering as ever.

When, where, prices: 8 p.m. May 10, Vivarium . $29.50.

Milwaukee Metal Fest

Sixteen years after its last installment, Milwaukee Metal Fest — a celebrated showcase for thrash, death metal and other styles from 1987 to 2004 (and a 2007 edition) — returned to its primary home base the Rave in 2023, under the guidance of new owner and Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta. It wasn't going to be another one-off. Year 2 of the fest has an especially impressive lineup, including the first Milwaukee show in 24 years by main headliner Mr. Bungle. There'll be 73 bands in total, with four of them (Autopsy, Death to All, Terrorizer, I Am Morbid) giving rare front-to-back album performances just for this occasion.

When, where, prices: 2 p.m. May 17 to 19, the Rave . $99 to $383 for single-day tickets. $178 to $307 for two-day passes. $267 to $1,262 for three-day passes.

Willie Nelson

Evidently, Willie Nelson really can't wait to get on the road again. The country legend will celebrate his 91st birthday on April 29, and less than a month later, he will be on stage at the BMO Pavilion, a concert that comes less than a year after Nelson led Robert Plant, Alison Krauss and others through the Outlaw Music Festival at Alpine Valley.

When, where, prices: 7 p.m. May 18, BMO Pavilion, Maier Festival Park, 200 N. Harbor Dr. $44.94 to $336.77 at the box office and bmopavilion.com .

Thanks to the pandemic, music fans are used to shows getting postponed and extra-long waits to see their favorite stars. But even in that context, Peso Pluma fans have been especially patient. The primary figure responsible for infusing regional Mexican music with modern cool (making it the second fastest-growing genre in America last year), Peso Pluma was set to play Fiserv Forum last September following his breakthrough album "Genesis." That show was postponed to November, then postponed again, finally settling for May 30, the early days of what's being touted as his most ambitious tour.

When, where, prices: 8 p.m. May 30, Fiserv Forum . $54.50 to $1,445.
