A holy union is hitting the road this summer, with Erykah Badu linking up with Yasiin Bey, a.k.a. Mos Def on a 25-city U.S tour.

The ‘Unfollow Me Tour’ kicks off on June 11th at San Antonio’s AT&T Center before continuing on to stops in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles and then wrapping up on July 23 at the American Airlines Center in Badu’s hometown of Dallas, Texas.

Badu will also be performing at London’s All Points East festival this August, alongside Stormzy, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Jungle.

Tickets will officially go on sale this Thursday, April 20th at 2:22 p.m. local time via Ticketmaster, but fans can get exclusive access to pre-sale tickets by signing up for the AT&T Center’s All Access Newsletter.

Along with Badu and Bey, the tour announcement also promises “more extraordinary guests”

The “high priestess of neo-soul” has played a smattering of theater and festival dates in recent years but hasn’t launched a full fledge tour since 2018.

More recently, Badu reunited with The Roots on their new track “Misunderstood” featuring fellow Philadelphian Tierra Whack, and made a surprise appearance on BTS’ member RM’s song “Yun,” which opened his critically acclaimed solo effort Indigo .

And speaking of The Roots, former Black Star member Bey will appear on Black Thought’s forthcoming solo record, Streams of Thought Vol. 4 .

The MC shared that the track will “represent a seismic shift in the game,” and has apparently been sitting on the track for a few years.

The show was just ok for me. I couldn't get over the fact that she did not come on until 9:30 when the show was supposed to start at 8. This was my first time and last time attending a concert of hers. My time is valuable just like the artist and if any artist cannot respect their fans I would suggest the fans stop supporting their artist. My fiancee seen get years ago at the beginning of her career and she was on time. Money can really change a person. Sad.

Have always and will always love Erykah’s contribution to music BUT... she takes her fans in Dallas for granted. Tickets stated doors open at 7pm show starts at 8pm. Opening act didn’t start until 9. She came out during his set to say hello, so she clearly was at the venue but she made her fans wait until after 12am to hear her perform. I don’t know of anyone worth waiting that long. There were people who left without seeing her. Disappointed Ms. Badu You may be the envy of the women and rule the men but I’ll just listen to the music from the comfort of my home in the future.

DISAPPOINTING!!!

I live in Austin, TX, I took the day off, drove up 35, checked into my hotel, had a SUPERB dinner at Fleming’s in Plano, TX, drove down to The Bomb Factory, paid $20 to park in a lot at Malcolm X & Taylor, walked to the venue, got through security, got my ticket scanned at 7:50 PM CST.

Festival seating, no seats!!

Act # 1 (Techno DJ), Act # 2 (DC drummer), Dead Prez (3 songs)

I purchased a $30 T-shirt for my daughter

We tried to hold up until Ms. Badu made her stage appearance.

We left the venue at 11:10 PM CST

Erykah Badu reveals 2023 summer tour dates

The legendary soul singer is going on a 25-stop arena tour with yasiin bey..

Erykah Badu has announced the dates for her "Unfollow Me" tour with direct support from Black Star member Yasiin Bey f.k.a. Mos Def. Starting on June 11 in San Antonio, Texas, and ending on July 23 in her hometown of Dallas, the soul star is playing 25 dates in arenas across the country. She'll also be appearing in London's All Points East festival in August.

The last time Badu toured , she performed at several theaters across the United States in 2021. Tickets for this summer's "Unfollow Me" tour will be available on the official website on April 20 at 2:22 pm local.

Take I-90 East to the Madison Street exit and make a right onto Madison Street. The building will be on your left.

Take I-55 North to the Damen exit and make a left, going northbound for approximately 7 minutes. The building will be on your right.

Take Madison Street west from the Loop.

Take I-290 East to exit 28A (Damen Avenue). Take Damen Avenue north to Madison Street. Make a right onto Madison Street and the building will be on your right.

Public Transportation

Take the Orange, Green, Purple, or Brown lines to Madison. Take #20 Madison buses west.

To the United Center : The #19 United Center Express Bus runs on game days. Service begins 90 minutes prior to game time, runs every 10 minutes until 30 minutes until start of game. Board at stops starting southbound on Michigan and Randolph. Connections are made with Metra trains at Millennium Station, Ogilvie Center and Union Station. The #20 Madison Bus travels west on Madison Street, starting downtown at Wabash Street and runs every few minutes, making all stops to the United Center.

From the United Center : The #19 United Center Express and the #20 Madison buses run every few minutes, departing from the eastbound side of Madison Street. Buses make all stops.

Suites Parking

Two reserved parking passes will be valid in lots C and K. The other two reserved parking passes will be for parking in lots A, B, D, or L. Holders of these passes will be directed to A, B, D, or L lots by traffic police and parking attendants based on traffic conditions. Parking passes are good for one space each. All parking passes are mobile entry only.

For all special events, each Executive Suite Holder will receive two complimentary parking passes per event ordered. These two passes will be for reserved parking located in lots C and K. In addition, Executive Suite Holders will also receive the option to purchase four additional parking passes in lots C and K for special events.

Suite Holder parking passes are also valid for buses or limousines under specific guidelines.

Lexus Club Parking

Lexus Club Seat members have reserved parking in fenced, well-lit and clearly marked parking lots adjacent to the United Center for all Blackhawks or Bulls preseason, regular season and playoff games. All Lexus Club members who purchase tickets to other events may also purchase one preferred parking pass (in lot C or K) for such events. Details on how to obtain parking for other events are included with the fax transmission announcing each event.

Lexus Club Seat members with two to four tickets receive a complimentary, reserved parking space in a closed-in, paved lot for all Blackhawks or Bulls preseason, regular season and playoff games. Lexus Club Seat members with five seats or more will be provided with two parking passes.

UBER ZONE FAQs:

What is the Uber Zone (Lot E) at the United Center? To increase and streamline the fan experience for guests who take Uber to and from the United Center, the new Uber Zone is located at the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street (Lot E) and will combine the three former Uber locations around the arena. Traffic leading to the three prior Uber pickup locations 1) Zone A, previously located on Wood Street & Washington Blvd. near Lot A, 2) Zone D, previously located on Monroe Street & S. Paulina Street near Lot D and 3) Zone F, previously located on Monroe Street & Seeley Ave. near Lot F will now be directed towards the one new Uber Zone in Lot E.

What is the location of the Uber Zone? The new Uber Zone at the United Center is located on the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street. Fans will enter and exit through the sidewalk entrance located on Madison Street and cars will enter the lot by turning into the Uber Zone from Madison Street. Cars will exit on Warren Blvd.

What are the hours of operation? On event days, the Uber Zone is open two hours prior to games, concerts and events and will remain open up to one hour after each event. On non-event days, the Uber Zone will be closed and Uber rides will be dropped off near the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street outside of the Uber Zone.

What is the pickup process for fans?

• Using the Uber app, fans inside the United Center will call an Uber ride.
• Guests will then head to the new Uber Zone located at the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street in front of the United Center.
• When arriving, fans will show the Uber attendant the lane number their driver is in.
• Fans will be shown the location where their Uber vehicle is located to start their next journey.

What is the dropoff process for fans? When Uber drivers arrive with guests at the United Center, they will be instructed to pull into the Uber Zone from the Madison Street side to drop off fans. Once exiting the vehicle, guests will walk out of the main entrance located on the corner of Madison Street and Wood Street. Guests can cross the street to the United Center and are encouraged to enter through the East Atrium.

ABOUT yasiin bey

yasiin bey is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor. His career in hip-hop started under the now-forsaken stage name ‘Mos Def’ in 1994, and in 1998 he formed the duo Black Star alongside rapper Talib Kweli, releasing their eponymous debut album, which featured the singles " Definition " and " Respiration ." In 1999, he released his solo debut, Black on Both Sides , which was widely praised and followed by The New Danger (2004), True Magic (2006), and The Ecstatic (2009), all to critical and audience acclaim. Erykah Badu has announced a selection of tour dates slated for September to October 2021.

The revered artist is kicking off her series of performances at the 2021 Riverfront Jazz Festival in Dallas, Texas on September 3. She will then stop by areas like Atlantic City, New York City, Sugar Land, Indianapolis, Phoenix and San Diego before the final October 30 show in Atlanta. Badu will also be making a few festival appearances, including Lights On Festival in Concord and both Austin City Limits weekends.

The predominantly arena concerts, which are produced by Outback Presents and promise an out-of-this-world, surrealist atmosphere, will touch down in 25 cities throughout the U.S., making at stop at Chartway Arena on Wednesday, July 12th.

yasiin bey is a Brooklyn-born multimedia artist who has been working professionally since 1987. He has appeared in numerous stage and film productions during his career and is well regarded amongst his peers and audiences alike. He is a founding member of the musical duo Black Star with Talib Kweli, who released their seminal self-titled debut in 1998 which was followed by his own solo debut under the moniker Mos Def™️, Black On Both Sides in 1999, both regarded as pivotal contributions to contemporary culture. The editors of About.com listed him as the 14th greatest rapper on their "50 Greatest Rappers of All Time'' list.

He is a nominee and recipient of numerous awards, including an Obie Award for his work in the Suzan Lori Parks play ”F***ing A”.  He received Emmy ™ and Golden Globe ™  nominations for his portrayal of Dr. Vivien Thomas in “Something The Lord Made,” and several Grammy nominations for his albums, The New Danger and The Ecstatic . He was also awarded a Peabody for his work as a producer and host of “Def Poetry Jam ''among others.

In 2019, Mr. bey made his debut as visual artist with his Brooklyn Museum exhibition “Negus,” which featured works from Julie Mehretu, Ala Ebtekar, a collaboration with Jose Parla, as well as a large scale textile mural by Mr. bey entitled “Pleasant.” The exhibition also featured his latest solo musical offering “Negus,” a performance piece,produced by Lord Tusk and Steven Julien.  He is currently preparing a new slate of works as well as collaborating with the esteemed painter Anuar Khalifi. Mr. bey is represented by The Third Line Gallery in Dubai.

More recently yasiin bey has worked with long-time collaborators Dave Chappelle and Talib Kweli to create “The Midnight Miracle,” a podcast released on Luminary bringing the three together in a new genre of audio encompassing music, conversation, debate and notable guests. The program is regarded by many as a watershed moment in podcasting, with the New York Times remarking “Unpredictable … borderline hypnotic … the world’s most interesting dinner party.”

Erykah Badu cancelled her headline performance at this year’s Cross The Tracks on the day she was set to hit the stage.

The soul icon, 53, was among the huge acts set to perform at the London festival, but organisers took to Instagram to announce her headline set would no longer take place just hours before fans were meant to arrive.

Posting a picture of the stage, they said they were ‘utterly devastated’ that the Didn’t Cha Know hitmaker would not be able to perform due to illness, despite sound-checking this morning.

‘We are utterly devastated to inform you that Erykah Badu will no longer be playing Cross The Tracks 2024,’ the statement began.

‘We have spent the last 18 months working to secure this booking for her fans, her touring party has already arrived in London and has been sound-checking all morning but unfortunately due to illness, Erykah will be unable to make it.

‘We know what this means to you all, because it means the very same to us and this is a particularly hard message to be sharing. We’re so grateful in advance for your understanding about these matters, which are completely out of our control and we hope that you still enjoy the rest of this fantastic lineup, as we’ve been working tirelessly to curate the very best day for you all.’

They went on to urge attendees to check out the ’70 incredible acts’ that are also set to perform, with the lineup including Eve, Madlib, BADBADNOTGOOD, and En Vogue.

They continued: ‘This day isn’t just about one act, it’s about 70 incredible acts, shaping and defining the genres we love globally. Please stay tuned to the set times on Woov, as some things will be moving about; En Vogue will be closing out the main stage in all their glory and Freddie Gibbs & Madlib will now appear live on main stage in addition to Madlib’s previously scheduled DJ set on stage 2.

‘From a team of avid music lovers, #xthetracks24 will still be a true display of the brilliance and talent within jazz, funk and soul.’

Fans were quick to share their well wishes for Badu while expressing their disappointment they would not see her perform.

‘This is heartbreaking. I hope she feels better soon. Before people start asking for refunds. Please remember how hard it is for festivals to continue to run in this climate. There are still so many other great artists to see. Let’s continue to show support,’ ms_seraphine wrote.

Xmissvaleria said: ‘Refund better be an option. Many people are there for Erykah only,’ with Caity_jamie agreeing: ‘yeah refund i don’t understand this is totally unreasonable 6 hours before.’

Offkeybeatz reasoned: ‘Freddie Gibbs and Madlib are an awesome replacement to pull off last min and even if you’re not into that then here’s a whole load of other great artists to check out 🔥🔥🔥 you people asking for refunds really don’t realise how tough it is for independent festivals to survive these days, nevermind the fact that the organisers have been left holding the bag after paying for an artist to perform who drops out on the day.’

Eniz_menendez also said: ‘Sad but still gonna be a vibe – line up is amazing, let’s go Freddie Gibbs and Madlib! 🔥🔥🔥.’

The news comes after the singer took a swipe at Beyonce earlier this year in the run-up to the release of her hit album Cowboy Carter , accusing her of copying her signature style – and not for the first time .

When the TEXAS HOLD ‘EM singer, 42, unveiled the limited-edition vinyl cover on Instagram, Badu shared the image to her Stories with the caption ‘Hmmm.’

Following this, she took to Twitter in a bid to publicly reach out to Beyonce’s husband Jay Z, begging him to speak up.

‘To Jay Z . Say somethin Jay . You gone let this woman and these bees do this to me?? [sic],’ Erykah tweeted to her 2.7m followers.

RM’s ‘Right Place, Wrong Person’: All 11 Songs Ranked

The BTS leader's alternative-leaning second solo album features appearances from Little Simz, Moses Sumney, DOMi & JB BECK and more.

In  RM ‘s latest introspective turn, the  BTS  leader unveils his new solo endeavor  Right Place, Wrong Person , an album that shifts the focus from genre experimentation to a raw exploration of his identity and emotions. RM’s previous solo project  Indigo,  which was released in 2022 and peaked at No. 3 on the  Billboard 200 , marked an initial venture beyond the confines of his group to find his musical voice through a variety of collaborations and exploration into genres with musical greats that he admired like Erykah Badu, Youjueen, Anderson .Paak, Parkjiyoon, Tablo, Mahalia and more.

But as RM confided to his bandmate  Jimin  in an episode of their  MMM (Mini & Moni Music)  YouTube series ,  Indigo  left him unfulfilled despite its critical acclaim and commercial success. Instead, RM spent more than a year feeling adrift and would even postpone his mandatory military enlistment to delve deeper into the music, feelings and sentiment that became  Right Place, Wrong Person .

Just like how  his music video for lead single “LOST!”  opens with a nametag declaring “INSIDE NAMJOON’S BRAIN” (referring to RM’s birth name, Kim Namjoon),  RPRW  encapsulates the global superstar’s larger life questions. The album is not for the mass appeal of  Hot 100  hits but to serve as an intimate outlet for RM to unburden himself after a period of hardship and self-reflection. Without the immense pressure of leading the world’s biggest pop group, RM shares his innermost thoughts — anger, hope, confusion, excitement, love, loneliness, mania.

While the album will certainly make a splash when it debuts on the Billboard 200 next week, it ultimately stands as a testament to RM’s evolution as an artist who can delve deeper — deeper than even he may have realized — to share a journey with which the world can empathize, gain comfort and help find answers to life’s difficult questions.

"? (Interlude)" With DOMi & JB BECK

Just like RM himself, French-American duo DOMi & DJ BECK is challenging to define. Their instrumental-focused work garners Grammy nominations and collaborations with the likes of Herbie Hancock and Busta Rhymes. Bringing their talents together on the “? (Interlude)” is a far-too-short intermission with great promise via synthesizer, drum, and flute combinations.

With the song’s title meant to represent RM being brutally honest and pulling out his deepest stories, “Groin” lets RM step slightly back into his original “Rap Monster” moniker and away from BTS’ English-speaking representative attending meetings at the United Nations. While some parts of the song get repetitive and feel like they lessen his messages, there is a heavy dose of clever wordplay; it’s refreshing to hear a scrappier RM again, and it shows that no matter how mature one may get, parts of our younger selves remain.

"ㅠㅠ (Credit Roll)"

In the shortest interlude on the record, RM simply asks the listener, “When the credits roll, do you hang tight?” before adding, “I’m so grateful for everyone’s time/ Hope you all had such a wonderful night.” There are many ways to take the phrase. Are you a moviegoer rushing to return to your life after being transported for a few hours? Or are you someone who lets experiences wash over you after they finish? Or do you take time to recognize all the people who helped create the movie you’ve experienced?

The allegory can even extend its meaning for TV shows or concerts (when many K-pop concerts roll a credits video at a show’s end, including the entire tour and management staff). It’s a quick and quirky cut but can elicit intense conversation and introspection.

"Right People, Wrong Place"

The opening track flips the album’s title and establishes the thematic tone of exploring misalignments through decidedly alternative production. With its mishmash of echoes, yelps, and vocal loops over the ever-changing synth work, “Right People, Wrong Place” sets the fluid and continuous narrative of the LP that’s more reminiscent of RM’s gorgeously lo-fi mixtape  mono.,  released in 2018, than anything from his past solo or BTS work.

"Around the world in a day" feat. Moses Sumney

One of the longest tracks on the LP, “Around the world in a day,” begins with RM and indie soul singer Moses Sumney playing around, trading off lines and distorting their vocals before cutting to a rock star-rap performance at the halfway mark. The final 30 seconds of the track close with layered, acapella harmonies with a title like “Around the world in a day,” also representing the wide range of alternative genres tackled across the stunningly cool standout.

The centerpiece of  Right Place Wrong Person , “LOST!” speaks to the BTS leader losing his way and needing to find himself solely on his own. Despite the serious subject matter, the lightness of the track’s lyrics and composition suggests that Namjoon has made peace in his journey. When he spits lines like, “I’m goddamn lost/ I never been to club before, I hit the club,” they can both feel relatable to anyone venturing into a new experience but also quite disjointed considering his rare experiences growing into adulthood as a K-pop idol.

RM spoke about how the past months making  RPWP  were dynamic in terms of highs and lows and there’s a sense of near mania in “LOST!” in the second verse when he shares, “Every morning, every night, I always feelin’ lifeless/ And in the morning, I feel love, I hug it in excitement.” The multitudes and range RM shares in the album’s title track is one of the best representations of the dualities and juxtapositions found throughout  Right Place Wrong Person  with the playful and at-ease atmosphere making it perfect single material to reach wider audiences.

Despite rising to fame as a rapper in BTS, RM knows how to craft soft, delicate pop soundscapes. A big fan of shoegaze, “Heaven” is the airy standout on RPWP that’s like a sonic equivalent of resting one’s head on a cloud but feeling the thunder rumbling just below the surface. The all-English track sees the star acknowledging someone toxic in his life (“If that’s your delight/ Come ruin my vibe…/ You don’t need to hide it/ I know what you are”) who no cannot affect his unshakeable solace (“I’m feelin’ so good here with me/ Feelin’ so full here with me/ Everything’s untakeable/ My peace is unbreakable). It’s a rare moment of musical tranquility in Namjoon’s journey and truly begins the stunning second half of Right Place, Wrong Person .

"Come back to me"

“Come back to me” introduced  Right Place, Wrong Person  for RM to return to us in a more somber and reflective mood. With acoustic, folky production that wouldn’t sound out of place across alternative, pop, or adult-contemporary radio, the nearly six-and-a-half minute tune lets RM deliver a more laid-back, crooner type of performance. As the layers of his voice get more complex and free-flowing — with background vocals by Kuo Kuo of Taiwian’s Sunset Rollercoaster and the song’s producer OHHYUK from acclaimed Korean indie band Hyukoh — the instrumentation also becomes increasingly nuanced with additional percussion, guitars and bass elements added into a mix that grows fiercer and more emotional, but never overwhelming or messy.

"Domodachi" feat. Little Simz

A track that exemplifies the blending of cultures, languages, sounds and emotions, “Domodachi” boasts layers that speak to the introspective and multifaceted approach RM took to  RPWP.

“Domadachi” is a combination of the Japanese words domo  and  tomodachi , which mean “thank you” and “friends,” respectively. The compound “Domadachi” roughly translates to “thanks, friends,” but the biting lyrics show the phrase’s sarcastic essence. RM’s explicit Korean and English verses, the primarily Japanese chorus, and as well as the rap from British rapper Little Simz prove the range of linguistic interplay to explore belonging by addressing friends, fans and critics who overemphasize the superficial. Little Simz delivers her verse to declare that “Simz and RM, man/ It don’t get bigger” but closes her final line with the Korean phrase “내 선은 넘지 못해,” or “You can’t cross my line,” speaking to the duo as boundary-pushing artists.

The offbeat production shifting through saxophone riffs, racing guitar licks, and ominous Japanese chanting through the chorus only makes the track all the more intriguing of a listen with more treasures to find the more the listener digs. (And it’s so worth it to dig)

Erykah Badu Cancels Headline UK Festival Shows

Erykah Badu was “disappointed” to withdraw from her headlining performance at the Cross The Tracks festival on Sunday.

Festival organisers announced on Instagram early Sunday that the singer would no longer be headlining the festival, which was held in London’s Brockwell Park, due to illness.

Erykah addressed the news on Instagram on Monday, posting a selfie of her lying in bed alongside the words, “London I am bombed I missed you.”

In the caption, Erykah added, “Thank you to all the fam that came out and much gratitude. I do not take it for granted. I don’t miss shows. So I am disappointed and bombed. We will be together soon. Divine timing. – badu.”

In the original announcement, organisers of the jazz, funk and soul festival told their followers, “We are utterly devastated to inform you that Erykah Badu will no longer be playing Cross The Tracks 2024. We have spent the last 18 months working to secure this booking for her fans, her touring party has already arrived in London and have been sound checking all morning but unfortunately due to illness, Erykah will be unable to make it.”

Erykah has not divulged details about her illness.

En Vogue were moved up the bill to headline the festival in Erykah’s absence.
