How to get tickets to international shows on Taylor Swift’s 'Eras Tour'

The “Shake It Off” singer’s fan base infamously crashed Ticketmaster when they overcrowded the system while trying to buy tickets when they went live on Nov. 15, 2022. Since then, the platform has employed a new ticket purchasing process that has kept crashes at bay — so far.

The new purchasing multi-step process first requires pre-registration in order to be eligible for pre-sales and regular sales. However, pre-sales and registration are closed for all current international tour dates.

Fans who are interested in attending an international show can try purchasing tickets on reseller sites such as StubHub and SeatGeek.

Taylor Swift announced 2024 international dates for her Eras Tour Tuesday, beginning with a Feb. 7-10 run of four shows at the Tokyo Dome and running through Aug. 16-17 gigs at Wembley Stadium in London.

Besides the U.K. and Japan, countries on the agenda for next year include France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Australia, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Austria, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Altogether, it was 38 overseas dates that Swift announced in Tuesday’s major rollout.

Popular on Variety

This wide expansion outside of the U.S. joins a dozen dates for this fall that Swift recently announced for Mexico, Argentina and Brazil in the Aug. 24-Nov. 26 time frame. Carpenter is opening all of those shows.

As she moves overseas next year, London will get four Wembley shows altogether, in two parts. First, she appears at the stadium for a pair of shows on June 21-22, 2024, before returning to wrap up the tour there Aug. 16-17.

She will be paying plenty of attention to the U.K. besides that, with shows in Edinburgh June 7-8, Liverpool June 14-15 and Cardiff June 18.

Tokyo and London are the only cities on the overseas tour to get four shows apiece — although, as Swifties well know, expansions in any given locale are very much to be expected.

The next closest runners-up with three shows each are Sydney and Singapore.

Taylor Swift Taps Paramore for European Eras Tour Run

Taylor Swift knows we need more — so she’s giving us just that. The singer has added 14 more shows to the European/U.K. leg of her Eras Tour , and announced that Paramore will provide support throughout the trek.

“Really can’t contain my excitement because… we’re adding 14 new shows to The Eras Tour,” Swift wrote on Twitter Wednesday, July 5. “And I get to travel the world doing shows with @paramore !! Hayley and I have been friends since we were teens in Nashville and now we get to frolic around the UK/Europe next summer??? I’m screaming???”

Last month, Swift added dozens of shows to her Taylor Swift: The Eras stadium tour — bringing the total count of shows to a whooping 104 nights . She also extended her run at Los Angeles’ So-Fi Stadium with a sixth show scheduled for Aug. 7.

The new addition comes after the singer announced shows in Japan, Australia, Singapore, and Europe earlier this week. (See below for the full tour dates.)

“EXCUSE ME HI I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY 🙋‍♀️,” she wrote on Instagram. “I can’t wait to see so many of you on The Eras Tour next year at these new international dates!”

She also added more dates to her already-announced Latin America tour. After wrapping her U.S. dates in Los Angeles on Aug. 9, Swift will head to Mexico City for four straight shows at Foro Sol starting Aug. 24. She’ll then stop in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and both Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil in November.

Swift first announced the tour last October after she completely took over the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 with Midnights . The added dates, which follow the addition of eight new shows last week, were slotted in “due to unprecedented demand,” according to the singer’s camp.

“Good Morning America, it’s Taylor,” Swift said during the announcement. “I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time and I’ve been planning for ages, and I finally get to tell you I’m going back on tour. The tour is called the ‘Eras’ tour, and it’s a journey through all of my musical eras of my career.”

The tour began on March 17 in Glendale, Arizona and extends through Aug. 9, where the singer will wrap with a fifth night at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Swift still has stops left in Detroit, Minneapolis, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Santa Clara.

Charlie puth didn’t believe that taylor swift shout-out was real at first, meet the taylor swift fans making their own versions of 'the tortured poets department'.

Across the tour, Swift is being supported in select cities by a combination of special guests including Paramore, beabadoobee, Phoebe Bridgers, girl in red, MUNA, HAIM, GAYLE, Gracie Abrams, and OWENN.

The Eras tour follows the cancelation of her planned 2020 Lover Fest tour, which was originally going to see her make stadium stops in Los Angeles, Boston, and New York, along with Brazil, Denmark, Norway, and Poland. “This is an unprecedented pandemic that has changed everyone’s plans and no one knows what the touring landscape is going to look like in the near future,” she wrote in 2021.

Swift last went the road in 2018 for her massive Reputation Stadium Tour , which saw Swift accompanied by the likes of Charli XCX and Camila Cabello across the United States, the United Kingdom, along with Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. The tour was the highest-grossing music tour by a female artist that year.

Since her last tour, Swift has released four albums and two re-releases: Lover , Folklore , Evermore , Midnights , and Taylor’s Version editions of Fearless and Red with additional songs. In total, she’s dropped 90 tracks of new material, not including collaborations with the likes of Haim and Big Red Machine.

Fans have long wondered what music she’ll be performing on the road, with some theorizing that she’d host a residency in Las Vegas or a music festival where she’d perform different “eras” on different nights.

Along with packing her setlist with songs from Reputation in 2018, she surprised each city with an acoustic rendition of fan favorites like “Red,” “Holy Ground,” and “Wildest Dreams.” At select shows, she also brought out special guests. Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, Hayley Kiyoko, and Maren Morris were among the artists to be brought out by Swift.

The stadium tour was accompanied by a concert film released on New Year’s Eve that year.

She previously took her 1989 album on the road for 85 dates, where she was accompanied by the likes of Mendes, James Bay, Vance Joy, and Haim. Before then was The Red Tour in 2013 and 2014, and her Speak Now World Tour from 2011 to 2012.

Taylor Swift

The eras tour, olympic stadium.

Taylor Swift

She is an absolute world star, winner of numerous awards, whether Grammys, Billboard or MTV Awards. Her albums and single hits have sold millions worldwide, and in 2022 she set a unique record in the American charts. In 2024, Taylor Swift will also come to Munich as part of her "The Eras Tour" - for two open-air concerts on 27 and 28 July at the Olympic Stadium.

It was a sensational record that Taylor Swift achieved at the end of October 2022 in the 64-year history of the Billboard Hot 100, when she took all the places from 1 to 10. Ten songs in the Top 10? No one had ever done that before her. It came as little surprise that her newly released album "Midnight" also reached the top position in the album charts at the same time. And the fact that she surpassed Madonna (38) as the most successful top ten artist with a total of 40 hits was another record.

She also achieved a personal premiere in Germany in 2022, when her tenth studio album reached No. 1 in the German longplayer ranking for the first time. Another debut will come in the summer of 2024: for the first time in her career, Taylor Swift, who would be named "Woman of the Decade" by Billboard Women in Music in 2019, will play in Munich. After having to cancel her concert in the Olympic Hall, once scheduled for March 2011, due to scheduling conflicts, she will now come under the tent roof for a double open air - at two performances on 27 and 28 July. Taylor Swift live in the stadium - guaranteed to be a highlight of the Munich summer of 2024.

How To Get Taylor Swift Eras Tour International Tickets Abroad

Ticketmaster, “why you gotta be so mean?”

International Swifties, now is your turn to experience the dramatic saga that is trying to acquire Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets. It’s not an easy feat by any means, especially when Ticketmaster is involved. Swift first announced international dates for her Eras Tour in June, which includes cities in Europe, Asia, and Australia. In addition to the announcement, Swift also shared that registration for those dates had opened up. Unfortunately, the deadline to sign up to be a “verified fan” and receive a code to purchase tickets on Ticketmaster has long since passed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still get international tickets to Swift’s Eras Tour another way.

Just like there are many avenues (albeit some expensive ones) to buy last-minute Eras Tour tickets , there are ways to get tickets to potentially see Swift sing “Paris” in Paris or “London Boy” in London. The only problem is Ticketmaster has put into place a new set of rules for international Eras Tour tickets that involve a “lead booker” policy . This stipulation added onto Swift tickets has definitely made getting them a lot harder. You might be wondering, what is the Ticketmaster lead booker policy? Well, it’s the company’s solution to the issue of resellers. U.S. Swifties have had to deal with scalpers and non-fans buying up tickets to the Eras Tour, and reselling them for an exorbitant amount. For example, tickets in the same row that I paid $250 for at face value are now going for almost $1,600 on StubHub — and that’s just the lowest price. The most expensive are listed for $9,500.

To try and avoid this type of highway robbery, Ticketmaster’s lead booker policy makes it so the tickets purchased are non-transferable — meaning you can’t resell them on a site like StubHub. Instead, the person who bought these tickets must be present at the show to use them. This makes tickets bought as presents unusable unless the person who bought them is there to present “a valid photo ID matching the customer name on the booking confirmation and the credit card.” Groups must also “enter the venue at the same time.” These strict rules may make it easier for Eras Tour tickets to fall into the hands of only Swifties, but it also makes it almost impossible for you to get international Eras Tour tickets without a presale code. However, there is a bit of hope.

Can You Get Resale Taylor Swift Eras Tour International Tickets?

International Taylor Swift Eras Tour tickets are non-transferable and have a lead booker policy, whi...

Lead booker rules are put into place not just for the UK shows, but all international dates, including France , Sweden , and Japan . Most countries, though, state that these rules can change, and “resale may become available at some point.” According to Ticketmaster, the decision to not have resale activated is a choice of the “organizer” — aka Swift’s team. It’s possible if enough Swifties complain about the lead booker rules, Eras Tour tickets will become available for resale. After the Eras Tour Ticketmaster fiasco of 2022 , Swift shared a lengthy (and angry) statement about the mishandling of the sale . Swift, who is “extremely protective” of her fans, was rightfully pissed about the situation, so it’s possible she’ll make things right with international Swifties as well.

If they allow for the resale of Eras Tour tickets, you’ll be able to find those listed on Ticketmaster and potentially other sites like StubHub. The best solution IMHO is allowing for resale tickets, but capping the price at face value so that fans can only get back the money they spent and other Swifties don’t have to decide if they’d rather pay rent for a month or see Swift sing “Cruel Summer” IRL. Until Ticketmaster makes a change to their policy, BDG’s Senior Newsletter Editor Hayley Schueneman — who got tickets to see Swift in France — says, “I would be leery of people saying they can sell you international tickets!”

Will There Be A General Sale For Taylor Swift Eras Tour International Tickets?

Similar to how Eras Tour tickets have been selling in the U.S., you need a fan code in order to actually get in the queue to buy tickets. While presales have begun, some cities are opening up general sales to more verified fans who were put on the waitlist. However, these fans still need a code that’s linked to their Ticketmaster account in order to buy them. This means if you missed the deadline to register for Eras Tour tickets, you won’t be able to purchase general sale tickets.

The public sale for Eras Tour in the U.S. was canceled due to the high demand, and that seems to be the case internationally as well. A lot of fans have also been saying on TikTok that they’ve been taken off the waitlist , but the only tickets still remaining are the VIP packages to Eras Tour since those are the most expensive. It’s possible that if Ticketmaster decides to open up their sales to the general public, all that will be left are VIP packages.

Pretty much, the sales for Eras Tour 2024 tickets are looking to be just as dramatic and confusing as the U.S. Right now, all you can hope for is that Ticketmaster drops their lead booker policy, they open up sales to the general public, or you find a friend in Europe, Asia, or Australia with an extra ticket who would be willing to go to the show with you. Of course, you could also mastermind a friendship with Swift so she invites you into the Eras Tour VIP tent — but that’s going to take a little more manifesting to happen .

A survivor's guide to Taylor Swift floor tickets: Lessons from an Eras Tour veteran

era tour europe tickets

STOCKHOLM — Thousands of fans line up each morning ahead of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows hoping to get one of the coveted spots on the open, first-come, first-served arena floor.

In America, fans buy designated seats. Abroad, the floor is like a Southwest flight. There are no assigned seats, and those with VIP tickets nab the best spots since they are let into the arena an hour early.

Unless fans have VIP tickets, they'll probably end up in the mid-to-back sections of the floor, no matter how early they line up. After getting two floor tickets to two shows — one in Paris and one in Sweden — here are my tips for navigating the magic and madness of the ground level.

Like we were in Paris

An hour before Swift's last show in Paris, I and a friend of mine made a last-minute decision to buy $150 floor tickets off StubHub. We went to the arena 10 minutes before the opening act, Paramore, took the stage. At intermission, we stood by the VIP tent. I was able to say hi to "Grey’s Anatomy" star Jessica Capshaw . Twenty feet away, singer Christina Milian sat in a director's chair.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Up above fans noticed Swift's boyfriend Travis Kelce , his best friend Ross Travis, actor Bradley Cooper, supermodel Gigi Hadid and rock star Lenny Kravitz in a suite. I could understand why Kelce was in a box. The chaos of fans zooming in on their phone cameras to get grainy shots of his every reaction and waving arm dance moves was nonstop. But I get it, I got one for Instagram when Swift punctuated her 87th — his jersey number — show with a mashup of love songs including one that he inspired: “The Alchemy,” “Treacherous,” “Begin Again” and “Paris.”

Walking along the back rim of the floor and following Swift as she performed from different parts of the massive catwalk, I felt carefree and untethered. It was liberating not to fear losing a spot. Several fans danced in the less congested area similar to the thousands who danced in theater aisles during the blockbuster release of the concert movie.

Predicting Kelce would come down near the stage during “Karma,” I walked over to the guardrail and waved during the “Midnights” song. He and Swift took a different exit than her dancers, singers and bandmates. My friend had been to the Eras Tour a few times before and said that was his favorite show.

It’s nice to have a friend

In Sweden, I bought a floor seat on the right side of the stage. Hoping to get a closer spot, I camped out. The long wait created a mini community that exchanged friendship bracelets and the latest clown theories while posting videos to Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok. My favorite costumes in the Y entrance line were two Reputation clowns wearing scaly dresses and snaky blue boas paired with bright-red clown wigs that made everyone smile. (The joke is Swifties incessantly “clown” the singer will announce the rerelease of her sixth album and she has yet to.)

The shade from Friends Arena blocked the Swedish sun with temperatures in the 70s. The less-than-long merch lines allowed fans to save each other’s spaces to buy $75 hoodies and $45 T-shirts.

With no bags allowed in the arena , fans filled their pockets with only essentials like external battery chargers, wallets, passports and chapsticks.

Patient line waiters drank water early. Two Finnish fans by me said they stopped hydrating a couple hours before doors opened for fear of getting a good place and having to use the restroom.

Thousands of VIP fans entered an hour early, and any hope of getting a stage-side dominion was lost for general admission.

I staked a claim near the railing on the side of the stage base (by the corner of the back screen). Guitarist Paul Sidoti threw guitar picks to fans. Back-up vocalists Kamilah Marshall and Eliotte Woodford waved to admirers between running backstage for wardrobe changes and joining Swift center-stage. Pianist Karina DePiano stayed at the keys the whole concert but danced and sang to every tune. The other bandmates and vocalists were on the opposite, left corner.

Security guards who bordered the stage between the fan barricade and catwalk had stacks of cups and multiple, liter-sized water bottles. They frequently asked if anyone needed hydration. Around the “1989” set two-thirds of the way into the show, Swifties took the guards up on the offer.

At least four times on Swift's third night in Stockholm, fans were escorted by a guard along the stage to an area where they would get medical attention. One of the four was carried by a guard who asked his cohorts to get the girl water. Outside, the night chill hovered at 54 degrees and inside the arena’s temperature was tepid at best.

Several water stations on the floor included disposable cups with multiple faucets over a bathtub where fans could fill up.

At one point during the acoustic set, Swift paused to ask fans , “Someone in the front row, can you tell me yes or no to this question: When you guys are putting a bunch of flashlights up in a group, does that mean people need help?”

Best seat in the house?

There are advantages to each section of the floor. The diamond part of the stage is the premier spot for the most close interactions with Swift. It gets the rising platform, smoke shooters and bulk of the performances.

The two base corners by the back screen and the catwalk between the back screen and diamond allow fans to see “The Man” set, “Folklore” cottage and famous “Enchanted” look back as Swift exits the “Speak Now” era. It’s also the space where most entrances and exits happen.

The far end of the catwalk is where the “22" hat is given out, where “Love Story” culminates as flashing lights shoot across the entire arena and where Swift begins “The Tortured Poets Department” era with “But Daddy I Love Him.”

After being to multiple shows, I would vie for a seat looking directly at the stage, perpendicular to the back screen. You get the chance to give your legs and back a rest between eras. You have a designated spot, and you can see the entire show including animations.

The open floor offers two options. For the VIP ticket holder, you get a front row vantage of the record-breaking show along with the best photo and video opportunities. But if you’re not in VIP and on the floor, succumb to not getting the best media and dance in your best dress, fearless.

“I wanted to tell you something that I’ve been so excited about for a really long time. I’ve been planning for ages and I finally get to tell you: I’m going back on tour,” Swift said on  GMA , announcing the news. “The tour is called the Eras tour and it’s a journey through all of the musical eras of my career.”

Ticketmaster Controversy

«Well. It goes without saying that I'm extremely protective of my fans. We've been doing this for decades together and over the years, I've brought so many elements of my career in house. I've done this SPECIFICALLY to improve the quality of my fans' experience by doing it myself with my team who care as much about my fans as I do. It's really difficult for me to trust an outside entity with these relationships and loyalties, and excruciating for me to just watch mistakes happen with no recourse. There are a multitude of reasons why people had such a hard time trying to get tickets and I'm trying to figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward. I’m not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could. It's truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them. And to those who didn't get tickets, all I can say is that my hope is to provide more opportunities for us all to get together and sing these songs. Thank you for wanting to be there. You have no idea how much that means.» Taylor Swift

Midnights Era

Midnights Era 2022-2024 “Meet me at midnight.” With the release of her tenth studio album, Midnights, Taylor became more universally loved than ever before. And when 20,000 people regularly started showing up outside her sold out “The Eras Tour” stadium shows a couple of months later, it became clear that something

Records and Achievements

«I just want to talk to you guys for a second about how this tour, and what you have done — you know, this tour, I hear so many people talking about how they wanted to come to these shows just because of you guys, and the joy, and the friendship, the open heartedness with which you guys have approached this tour. Like you’re making friendship bracelets and trading them with each other, you’re dancing with each other, you’re making friends with the people next to you. I see you FaceTiming people who are your friends and like, singing with them too. It’s really beautiful, and like the nicest thing in the world is how you guys have approached this tour with so much excitement, and you’ve gotten so into it, and you dress up, and the fact that you care this much is what has made this tour so special for me, and everyone that you see onstage. So thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I figured it would be fun, but I did not know it would be like this. I just didn’t. And the thing is that you guys have made it so much fun.» Taylor Swift

The cities visited by “The Eras Tour” celebrated the tour in various ways, creating a “friendly competition” between them over honouring Taylor.

  • Glendale temporarily changed its name from March 17 to 18 as it hosted the first shows of “The Eras Tour.” Mayor Jerry Weiers announced the “symbolic” name, Swift City, on March 13. The Westgate Entertainment District, a mixed-use complex in Glendale, put up welcome messages, and local restaurants offered Swift-themed menu items.
  • Las Vegas displayed light shows inspired by the color palettes of “The Eras Tour” every night through March 25 at the Gateway Arches on the Las Vegas Boulevard.
  • Arlington, Texas, renamed Randol Mill Road, the street outside AT&T Stadium, to Taylor Swift Way on March 30. Mayor Jim Ross declared March 31 through April 2 “Taylor Swift Weekend”, during which the steel sculptures outside Arlington City Hall were illuminated red; Taylor was also presented with a key to the city. Additionally, the Arlington Museum of Art announced on March 30 that it would host an exhibit exploring Taylor’s “evolving, boundary-pushing” artistry, featuring costumes, photographs, and concert videos from her album eras. Titled “The Eras Tour Collection,” the exhibit ran from June 2 to September 24, 2023.
  • Tampa, Florida, presented Taylor with a key to the city; Mayor Jane Castor invited Taylor to be the city’s honorary mayor for a day. The Tampa City Hall, Tampa Riverwalk and downtown bridges are to be lit red. Hillsborough County temporarily changed its name to Swiftsborough.
  • Houston illuminated its city hall lavender as a nod to “Lavender Haze”, celebrated “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour weekend”, and renamed NRG Stadium to NRG Stadium (Taylor’s Version) from April 21 to 23, as per a proclamation by Harris County judge Lina Hidalgo.
  • In Atlanta, Georgia’s Own Credit Union welcomed Taylor with a large “Welcome to A-TAY-L” sign displayed atop its skyscraper building. Taylorsville, Georgia declared April 28, 2023, “Taylor Swift Day” and presented Taylor with a key to the city following her three sold-out shows in Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
  • In Nashville, Tennessee, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum opened an exhibit entitled Through Taylor Swift’s Eras , displaying original outfits from every album era throughout May 2023. Mayor John Cooper recognized May 5 to 7 as “Taylor Swift Homecoming Weekend” and placed an “honorary bench” at Centennial Park as a monument dedicated to “Nashville and Swift’s long-standing relationship”, in reference to lyrics in her song “invisible string”.
  • Philadelphia unveiled a mural on South Street on May 12.
  • Massachusetts governor Maura Healey conferred a “Governor’s Citation” upon Taylor in recognition of her Foxborough shows.
  • New York City’s Museum of Arts and Design announced an exhibit called “Taylor Swift: Storyteller” on May 3, describing it as a “career-spanning look at [Taylor’s] artistic reinventions”; it opened from May 20, ahead of Taylor’s shows in East Rutherford, to September 4.
  • New Jersey governor Phil Murphy declared the “Taylor Swift ham, egg, and cheese” as the state’s official sandwich on May 25, referencing the cultural debate about Taylor ham and pork roll.

The Eras Tour-Ism Is Taking Taylor Swift Fans To Europe

The case for making concerts the new city break centerpiece.

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - MAY 17: EDITORIAL USE ONLY. NO BOOK COVERS Taylor Swift performs at Friends Aren...

When I landed in Stockholm on Wednesday June 15, 2024, it quickly became clear that this was not a regular day in the Swedish capital. I had barely passed customs when the demographic of tourists shifted from suited business travelers to quietly excited twenty-somethings. On the car ride to my hotel, one artist dominated the airwaves. Over the next couple of days, I would encounter countless bejeweled outfits, glittery cowboy boots, and arm-fulls of friendship bracelets. Conversations of “Taylor” drifted around every other corner.

That Friday night, Taylor Swift would perform the first of her three Eras Tour shows at the city’s Friends Arena. Of the weekend’s 150,000 concert-goers, an estimated 120,000 were expected to be traveling in from outside of Stockholm. I was among them, arriving in the city to experience a Marriott Bonvoy Moment , which included a three night stay at the Nobis Hotel Stockholm and premium tickets to see Taylor’s first ever performance in the city.

The tourism boom propelling me and other new arrivals isn’t exclusive to Sweden — according to data shared by United Airlines with Thrillist , Milan and Munich have seen a 40% increase in air travel bookings from the U.S. around each city’s Eras Tour stops. Lisbon, Madrid, and Edinburgh have seen a 25% increase. In short, Swifties are taking their fandom international.

Concert goers dressed as different Taylor Swift eras arrive for the Stockholm show

All this travel begs the question: why fly longhaul and deal with jet lag when you could see the show locally? I spoke to three Swifties to find out why.

The Swiftie Catching Up With Her BFF

On night one of the Stockholm Eras Tour I meet Katherine, 25, who has flown in from New York for a seven night stay in the city. This is her second Eras Tour date (the first was in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) and third time seeing Taylor. A life-long Swiftie — “I still remember how excited I was when my dad got me [Taylor’s debut album] from the library,” she says — Katherine is armed with friendship bracelets and surrounded by fellow fans when I stop to say hi.

“As silly as it may sound to some people, the Eras Tour kind of became the excuse to come [to Sweden]”, she says. Katherine’s close friend lives in the country and the concert facilitated a long overdue reunion. “When we had the tickets all excuses for [not visiting] were gone. I could come hang out with my friend, see some of her country and that’s what started mattering way more.” Post-concert, Katherine visited museums and did some general sightseeing, as well as being shown around all of her friend’s favorite spots. “I got to check just about everything off my list that I wanted to do which was incredible!”

Katherine shows the friendship bracelets she had made for the Eras Tour, Stockholm date

The Swiftie Who Found A Stubhub Bargain

Eras Tour-ism took Anna, 39, to her first ever Taylor show. Despite having been a fan since 2008 — she cites “Love Story” and “You Belong With Me” as the tracks that made her a certified Swiftie — Anna didn’t get to see Taylor live until The Eras Tour in Paris this year.

“I went for the first time on May 9, 2024 and for the second time on May 10, 2024. The second night was [a] total impulse,” she says, having been able to find tickets for a little over $200 on Stubhub on the morning of the show. With resale tickets for Swift’s California dates the previous year going for anywhere between $800 and $11,000 , snagging good seats for close to face value can feel too good to be true. In total, Anna spent five nights in Paris (two with Taylor) and was able to catch up with an old friend from college, visit museums and historical sights, and see the Moulin Rouge.

Anna outside the Paris La Defense Arena before attending Taylor Swift's Eras Tour

The Swiftie In Her Solo Travel Era

Hayley, 34, is a more recent convert to the Book Of Swift and was able to catch The Eras Tour in her hometown of Chicago last summer. “I left that concert fully believing it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see her live at the peak of her career,” she says, “I never anticipated being able to see the show again, especially because it was so expensive.” When the opportunity arose to see Swift for a second time in Lyon, France, Hayley jumped at it. “I still can't believe that I got a presale code,” she says, “I bought two VIP floor seats for the Lyon show and all in the total cost was less than one [resale price] ticket to the Chicago show.”

Like Anna and Katherine, Hayley has made plans around the concert to get the most out of her time abroad. She’ll start her trip by flying into Copenhagen, Denmark, and spending three days in the city solo — her plans include yoga classes, good food, and living like a local — before meeting up with a friend in Lyon for The Eras Tour. “I love the experience of attending concerts,” she says, “and being able to do so while on a trip abroad is an added bonus.”

Hayley Schueneman and her friend attend The Eras Tour in Chicago in 2023.

So... Is The Travel Worth It?

A thousand times yes! The Eras Tour made the perfect centerpiece to a jam-packed four days in Sweden – seeing “Cruel Summer” live will not be forgotten quickly, and being among the first to see The Tortured Poets Department performed is a story I’ll tell for years. It’s true, I could barely keep my eyes open on the flight home, but more than anything I was giddy with highlights to share.

Taking a walking tour of Stockholm’s historical buildings was the ideal way to get geographically acquainted, while shopping at Acne Studios Archive and roaming through the trendy Södermalm thrift stores (think Brooklyn, but Scandinavian) showed me the fashion-forward side of the capital. We squeezed in exceptional meals – the Michellin-starred Restaurang Oxenstiernan and Operakällaren – and enjoyed a late night snack and post-concert debrief at Max , the country’s most well-known fast food joint, while some essential TikTok research directed me to Stora Bageriet (baked goods) and StikkiNikki (homemade gelato) for sweet treats.

Thanks to a strategic itinerary and the uncharacteristically warm weather, I saw more of Stockholm than I was ever expecting. The best part? It was all on top of the primary reason we were in the city to begin with.

If a Swift-inspired city break is on your 2024 bingo card, Amsterdam, Milan, Munich, and Hamburg are among the many European cities with hundreds of tickets still available via resale sites like Stubhub . The closer the date, the lower the price: tickets for the Madrid show on May 29, 2024 are currently available for around €85, plus additional Marriott Bonvoy Moments and Eras Tour sweepstakes are set to launch throughout June and August.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour might be about to do for Europe what it did for America

  • The European leg of Taylor Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour kicked off on Thursday.
  • The Eras tour  is the first concert tour to gross over $1 billion, estimates showed.
  • She's crossing the Atlantic at a time when several of the continent's economies are struggling.

Insider Today

The European leg of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour kicked off in Paris on Thursday.

Last summer, the "Tortured Poets Department" singer's concerts helped boost the US economy, driving up spending on everything from restaurants to hotels across the country.

Estimates showed that the Eras tour is the first concert tour to gross over $1 billion.

In 2023, the research firm QuestionPro estimated that the Eras Tour would boost US consumer spending by an eye-popping $4.6 billion . Meanwhile, key business figurers ranging from Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi to policymakers at the Federal Reserve have noted the positive impact Swift's concerts have had on business.

Economists have even coined new phrases like " Swiftonomics " and " funflation " to refer to the idea that in the aftermath of the pandemic, Americans are more willing to splash the cash on live events that might lead to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.

Now, after quick pit stops in Singapore — where Swift's big-money shows made the country mountains of money and sparked concert envy among its Southeast Asian neighbors — and Australia , Swift is set to embark on an 18-city European tour.

Related stories

She could be set to give the continent's economy a similar boost.

Planeloads of American fans have followed her across the Atlantic, The Associated Press reported on Thursday, which is likely to fuel an uplift in spending.

When Beyoncé came to Sweden's capital, Stockholm, last summer, economists noted that her fans had spent so much on hotels and meals that they'd triggered a slight bump in inflation. This summer, the city is expecting 10,000 extra concertgoers to fly over from the US to see Swift.

Hotel booking statistics also help to capture the sense of how in-demand Eras Tour tickets are.

By August 2023, hotels in Cardiff and Liverpool in the UK — where Swift will be stopping in June — had already reached occupancy levels of more than 50% for her tour dates, hotel research firm STR reported, with rooms in Cardiff going for $230 more than they typically do.

In December, vacation rental data firm AirDNA found that demand for short-term rentals during Swift's tour dates in Vienna, Austria, and Warsaw, Poland, had already surged by around 2,000%.

The economies of Europe arguably need that boost in spending even more than the US did. The ongoing war in Ukraine has hammered the continent, with one country where Swift will play — Ireland — which was in a technical recession as of late last year — and several others, including the UK, having only just exited a period of negative growth.

Perhaps that means it's the perfect time to welcome back Miss Americana.

Canadian Taylor Swift fans are flying to Europe for cheaper concert tickets

Resale seats to shows in sweden spotted for less than $100.

era tour europe tickets

Social Sharing

Taking a trip to Europe to see Taylor Swift perform may not seem like an intuitive financial decision — but tickets to a concert in Canada are so expensive some fans are finding that's a better deal.

Bryan Kingston couldn't believe it when he snagged floor seats to an upcoming show in London, U.K., for $500 each on a resale website, when he had paid twice as much in Detroit last year.

"I found it was much cheaper," said the 40-year-old, who works in advertising in Hamilton, Ont.

"The difference in price actually paid for my flight to Europe."

Bryan Kingston plans to travel to London, U.K., to see Taylor Swift in concert in August.

He's still spending a sizeable sum. But for Kingston and other Swifties who can afford it, even with the cost of a flight, hotel and ticket, travelling for the concert may end up being better bang for their buck than seeing it in Canada.

He has friends heading to Scotland, Portugal and France, and said he couldn't pass up the opportunity to combine the concert with a vacation.

"It is honestly the best show I've ever been to in my life; otherwise, I wouldn't be making the trip."

Pop star supply and demand

Retail tickets for shows on Swift's record-setting Eras Tour in North America and Europe sold out almost instantly. Many then popped up on resale sites just as quickly. On StubHub, the cheapest seat to a Toronto concert in November right now is listed at $2,822. Yet the cost to get in the door in Stockholm this weekend is just a fraction of that price — $83.

  • No concert ticket? No problem. Swifties can still gather at 'Taylgate' in Toronto

Pascal Courty, an economics professor at the University of Victoria, suggests much of the disparity can be explained by basic economics. The European leg of Swift's tour boasts 51 shows across 18 cities, accommodating crowds of more than 40,000 each night.

"But the demand in some of these countries is not as strong," he said. "In Europe, compared to other artists, maybe she's not No. 1."

era tour europe tickets

Taylor Swift fans rush to snap up Toronto tickets

Courty says in Canada, the huge fan base compared to the limited number of shows  — at just nine — contributes to the steeper ticket prices on the secondary market.

"If Swift would give a concert every night in Toronto, at some point, the price of the tickets would be very low. It might take 12 concerts, it might take 18 concerts, but there's a point where the demand is going to be exhausted."

Resale restrictions

While fans in Europe may still face markups when buying resale tickets, governments there have been taking steps to address ticketing issues. In some countries , including Ireland, Portugal and Denmark, tickets cannot be resold for more than their original price. France has some of the strongest rules , where offenders can be fined thousands of euros.

Sam Shemtob, managing director of the Face-value European Alliance for Ticketing (FEAT), says this shift has made a difference.

"It's had a really positive effect. You see far fewer listings of tickets being resold for a profit, because the law is quite straightforward."

Taylor Swift, in sequinned jacket and matching knee-high boots, and two performers on stage singing and dancing.

That's not the case in Canada, where there are no national regulations limiting how much profit a consumer can make when reselling a ticket. In this year's budget, the federal government pledged to crack down on ticket reseller practices that it said unfairly drive up prices, but offered few other details or timelines.

In Quebec, companies need permission to resell tickets above face value. Individuals, however, can still resell a ticket at any price they choose.

Fans like Julia Rawleigh from Calgary, who missed out on the initial sale, have been disappointed by what they call outrageous resale ticket prices.

Canadian Swifties say it’s cheaper to see Eras Tour in Europe

"It was really frustrating when the concert tickets first dropped, and then immediately, you know, there were people selling them for thousands of dollars marked up," she said.

The 27-year-old restaurant manager decided to shake it off, instead making plans to see Taylor Swift's show in France.

"When we were able to get the Lyon tickets for $250 Canadian dollars, we were super excited. I don't even think we looked at where the seats were."

  • Taylor Swift expected to bring 'significant' economic boon to Vancouver

A better way?

Laws that regulate the secondary market are difficult to enforce, according to Courty, who suggested people will always find a way to sell tickets at market value.

  • Concert ticket system is 'broken,' say artists. But some experts say targeting resellers isn't the fix

U.S. singer-songwriter Billie Eilish is trying to combat the issue during her upcoming tour by making tickets non-transferable, an option offered by Ticketmaster that all artists can choose to implement during their tours.

If fans who purchase tickets in Canada or the U.S. can't attend the show, they are only permitted to resell them on Ticketmaster at the original price paid. Details for the concert state that "the tour wants to give fans, not scalpers, the best chance to buy tickets at face value."

Ticketmaster, the dominant player in the live event industry, has also come under scrutiny during Swift's tour, after fumbling online pre-sales in the U.S. The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating  its parent company, Live Nation, over claims it is abusing its market power — though Ticketmaster denies it is responsible for high ticket prices.

Courty says the most effective solution is to make tickets nominative, where purchasers have their name linked directly to a ticket and then must provide matching identification, similar to the system for airline tickets.

"Then you can completely prevent ticket reselling for profits."

American fans of Taylor Swift have been taking advantage of cheaper ticket prices for the European leg of her record-breaking Eras tour.

The Times of London reports that, in the 40,000-capacity Defense Arena in Paris where Swift recently performed, up to 9,000 of the seats were filled by American fans, for whom the overseas trip was a bargain compared with ticket prices back home, even when the cost of transport and local accommodation was factored in.

Philly-area Swifties are trekking to Europe for cheaper Eras Tour tickets

Dear reader: How far would you travel for Taylor Swift ?

For some Philadelphia-area Swifties, the answer is to Lincoln Financial Field and back. For others, it’s over 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe to see Swift’s record-breaking Eras Tour for a second, third, or even fourth time.

Swift last performed in Philly in May 2023, when the Eras Tour took over the Linc for three nights in a row and the Reading-born superstar declared her (now fickle) allegiance to the Philadelphia Eagles .

Since then, the tour has crisscrossed the United States, Latin America, and Australia, bringing with it billions of dollars in tourism revenue , several broken attendance records , and a litany of Swifties with a lasting concert hangover .

Now, the Eras Tour has landed in Europe. And with it, American Swifties.

The reasons for their journeys are both practical and sentimental: European Eras Tour tickets are significantly cheaper than those on sale in the U.S, where a scalper-driven resale market has driven prices for nosebleed seats into the thousands. The show is fundamentally different, too, thanks to addition of The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD) — Swift’s latest album — changing the set list .

Going to multiple concerts on the same tour has also been a part of Swiftie culture for a while. Fans go to the same show again and again because of the dedication Swift inspires . She might notice you, the lore goes, and you’ll be in a crowd of people who get it.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but somehow I’ve gotten to live it multiple times,” said Lisa Jefferson, 37, who flew to Paris earlier in May to see the Eras Tour. “This is our Super Bowl.”

Jefferson flew to Paris with her boss, Kate Miller, whom Jefferson said waited until the wee hours of the morning on French Ticketmaster to secure $650 tickets for the La Défense Arena — $150 less than Jefferson said she paid for her seat in Philly.

Jefferson and Miller built a vacation around the show. They went to Versaille, Disneyland Paris, and the Eiffel Tower, said Jefferson. The sights paled in comparison to being among the first to watch Swift perform “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me” while moshing on an invisible platform .

“It just felt like an entirely new show,” said Jefferson, who works in marketing at an e-commerce company. “To be one of the first people to experience [TTPD] live? I’ll never forget it.”

‘I’ll cry about it when my credit card statement comes’

Eras Tour tickets may be cheaper in Europe, but that doesn’t mean they’re inexpensive.

Tickets for Swift’s European tour dates average $340 apiece. That’s 87% cheaper than the sticker price of the average Eras Tour ticket in the United States, according to an analysis from TicketIQ . In other words, a savvy Swiftie could’ve flown to Sweden last weekend, watched the Eras Tour, and stayed at a four-star hotel for less than the price of a ticket to one of Swift’s three Miami shows in October.

Ashley Taragna booked a trip to Portugal after seeing videos of the TTPD set on TikTok. The 32-year-old attorney has attended every one of Swift’s tours since Fearless dropped in 2008, and said the total cost of the trip is a little over $2,800 so far.

“I was like, ‘Why can’t it be like this in the United States?’” said Taragna, who lives near Rittenhouse Square. (The answer: Resale ticket markups, like the ones seen in the U.S., are illegal in parts of the European Union .)

Ziy Martinez, 26, meanwhile has only spent $800 so far between flights and a ticket to see the Eras Tour in London. The price washed over Martinez like water off a duck’s back; she’d already seen the Eras Tour three weeks in a row across Philly, New Jersey, and Boston.

“I’ve spent so much money going to the Eras Tour already, so it’s like whatever,” said Martinez, who works in higher education.

For others, the sticker shock is real.

Megan Walsh spent $500 on a VIP ticket for the Eras Tour in Amsterdam on July 4. For Walsh, 25, the overseas ticket is extra special: she only got as far as tailgating in the Linc’s parking lot when Taylor came to Philly last May. This will be her first Swift show, and her second concert ever.

“I’ll cry about it when my credit card statement comes,” said Walsh. “Right now, I deserve it.”

‘A sin to miss it’

To some Swifties, however, seeing the Eras Tour abroad is less about girl math than it is about ritual.

Swift’s fandom thrives on equal parts consumption and obsession: Swifties buy the album, then the vinyl , then the exclusive Record Store Day offering . They go to dance parties, make the friendship bracelets, and take the moment and taste it, or however the lyric goes.

“It would be a sin to miss it,” said Marina Nardini, 31, who runs social media for the famed South Philly Chiefs bar Big Charlie’s Saloon . Nardini has seen Swift perform 16 times, bringing her mom, Trudy Mazzone, along for the majority of those concerts.

This time, the mother-daughter duo is taking on a distinctly Philly doubleheader: The Phillies play the New York Mets in London on June 8, followed by the Eras Tour in Edinburgh on June 9.

The pairing was “automatic,” said Nardini, whose mom is a Phils’ season-ticket holder. The pair is hoping the Kelces will be making a similar journey.

“God, I hope Travis is there,” Nardini wished aloud.

Veronica Heiselmoyer, 36, is building a similar family tradition. Her daughter Valerie, 10, is a recent Swiftie, who joined the fold last summer after a Swift sing-along at the Keswick Theatre.

Heiselmoyer said Valerie is preparing to sell homemade friendship bracelets to help supplement the cost of a trip to Miami for the Eras Tour in October. She wants to knock on doors in their Abington neighborhood, her mother said, and has even printed out her mom’s Venmo QR code to speed up transactions.

What Valerie doesn’t know: Heiselmoyer is surprising her with a trip to see the Eras Tour in Amsterdam on July 4.

“She’s going to be in disbelief,” said Heiselmoyer, 36. “I’ve never seen her this obsessed with an artist, or anything really.”
