Taylor Swift says Eras Tour will end in December

By Caitlin O'Kane

June 14, 2024 / 10:01 AM EDT / CBS News

It's the end of an era. Taylor Swift's long-running and history-making Eras Tour is coming to an end, the singer announced during a concert in Liverpool on Thursday.

During the show – which was the 100th of the tour – the singer said it was time to admit to herself and everyone that Eras will officially end in December.

"This has definitely been the most exhausting but all-encompassing, most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing that has ever happened in my life, this tour," Swift told the crowd after saying it was blowing her mind that she was marking her 100th concert of the tour.

In videos captured by fans at the show, Swift said the 100th show was the first time she acknowledged to herself that the tour was going to end in December.

The Eras Tour, which includes 45 songs spanning all of Swift's albums, kicked off in March 2023 in Glendale, California. The international leg began in August 2023 with stops in Paris, Tokyo, Australia, and the U.K.

The singer still has more than 50 shows left - some of which were added months after the tour began - with new dates in the U.S. and Canada at the end of the year.

The tour was a major hit with fans – many of whom struggled to snag tickets due to high interest and Ticketmaster issues – and became the first concert tour to gross more than $1 billion, hitting that figure at the end of December 2023, when an estimated 4.35 million tickets sold, according to Pollstar.

Swift even released a movie version of the tour last year for fans who missed it – and those who wanted to relive the magic again. The film earned an estimated $96 million  on its opening weekend. AMC  said  the movie even raked in $100 million in advanced ticket sales, and was the theater chain's highest-selling film in a single day, the company said.

Not only did the film help get people back into struggling movie theaters, but the tour itself is credited with boosting the economy in some cities . The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia said the tour helped boost travel and tourism in the region, and cities like Chicago, Cincinnati, and Tampa Bay reported the same, with tour attendees buying out hotel rooms and filling local restaurants and attractions.

As if it needed it, Swift revitalized the Eras Tour when she released her "The Tortured Poets Department" album in April and began incorporating new songs into the setlist.

The Who's Roger Daltrey Is 'F---ing Sick' of Fans Asking About Concert Setlists Before Shows: 'No Surprises Left'

"The Internet's ruined the live shows for me," the rock icon told Billboard amid his solo summer U.S. tour

  • Roger Daltrey revealed that he hates how fans ask about concert setlists before shows in a new Billboard interview
  • The Who frontman also explained why he prefers the element of surprise at his live shows
  • The lead singer is currently touring the U.S. this summer as a solo act

In a world where concert setlists are a top search, Roger Daltrey still believes in keeping the element of surprise.

The Who frontman, 80, aired his grievances about concert culture these days in a new Billboard interview, during which he refused to reveal which tracks he plans to perform on his current 10-date tour across the U.S.

“I’m not gonna talk about songs,” said Daltrey. “Too many people reveal songs. There’s no surprises left with concerts these days, ’cause everybody wants to see the setlist. I’m f---king sick of it.”

The rock icon also said, “The Internet’s ruined the live shows for me,” adding, “Who wants to know what’s coming next? People forget about surprises. I can’t stand it.”

Katja Ogrin/Redferns

Though he didn’t divulge many details about his upcoming shows, Daltrey did say fans could possibly expect to hear The Who ’s iconic hit “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” although it’ll sound a bit different live.

“We don’t use a tape loop for the instrumentation. We do it on real instruments,” he explained. “It just takes it off the rails and gives me more room as a singer.”

Don't expect the Who lead vocalist to do the song’s famous scream, though. “I’m not gonna do [it],” Daltrey added. “I’m gonna get the f---king audience to do the scream. I’ve done that scream for 55 years, and I’ve had enough of it. I don’t even want to try it now; it’s brutal on the vocal cords. They can do the scream, and I’ll do everything else. I’m more into singing these days. At the age of 80, I think I deserve to be.”

Daltrey is continuing his road tour this month with musicians Simon Townshend (younger brother of The Who co-founder and vocalist Pete Townshend ) on guitar, violinist Katie Jacoby and Billy Nicholls on mandolin and vocals. Percussionist Jody Linscott on percussion, guitarist Doug Boyle, bassist John Hogg, harmonica player Steve Weston, drummer Scott Devours and Geraint Watkins (keyboards) will also join his band.

The singer’s summer tour picks up again on June 12, in Vienna, Va., and wraps up in Highland Park, Ill., on June 29. According to Billboard , the run of shows includes “a mostly acoustic set of Who gems, rarities, solo nuggets and other surprises,” plus Q&A opportunities for audiences.

Daltrey dropped his last solo album , As Long as I Have You, in the summer of 2018. His legendary English rock band —  which he co-founded in London in 1964 — last released their 12th studio album, a deluxe version of 2019’s WHO , almost four years ago and embarked on a North American tour in 2022.

In addition to his new live shows, Daltrey is working on a biopic about the late The Who drummer Keith Moon and still looking for a director. He’s also mulling over a second book to follow his 2018 memoir Thanks a Lot Mr. Kibblewhite: My Story , per Billboard , which could potentially explore some of the insecurities the performer felt during The Who’s early days.

“I didn’t really go deep enough in my first book,” he told Billboard . “Quite a lot of it was terrifying, but I didn’t show it. I need to write about it.”

Taylor Swift Confirms the End of ‘Eras Tour’ During 100th Show in Liverpool

The Eras Tour might really be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

During the tour’s 100th show in Liverpool, England, on Thursday, June 13, Taylor Swift confirmed that the long-running show will end in December.

“People have been like, ‘How are you going to celebrate the 100th show?’” Swift, 34, told the sold-out crowd at Anfield stadium. “The celebration of the 100th show for me means this is the very first time I’ve acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December. Like, that’s it.”

Fans had theorized that Swift might add additional dates to the tour, but its final stops are scheduled for Vancouver, Canada, between December 6-8.

Swift called the Eras Tour “the most exhausting, all-encompassing, but most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing that has ever happened in my life.”

“I think that this tour has really become my entire life,” Swift explained. “It’s taken over everything. I think I once had hobbies, but I don’t know what they were anymore. All I do when I’m not on stage is sit at home and try to think of clever acoustic song mash-ups and think about what you might want to hear.”

The singer then thanked the rain-soaked fans in Liverpool and around the globe for their ability to turn the Eras Tour into the cultural phenomenon that it’s become.

“You have done so much to be with us, right?” Swift gushed. “You’ve made plans so far in advance, you planned what you were going to wear, you memorized lyrics, you got yourselves here, you figured out parking, you figured out transportation.”

She continued, “I want to spend the 100th show just thinking about that and living in this moment with you and being here with you. Just know that I appreciate every single ounce of effort that you put in to be with us when this tour reaches triple digits of shows. So, thank you.”

The pop star kicked off the Eras Tour — which features an expansive set of more than 40 songs covering her entire career — in the United States in March 2023 and traveled throughout the country until August 2023. She subsequently embarked on the international leg of the tour, making stops in South America, Asia, Australia and Europe. Swift also documented the concert experience in her October 2023 movie, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour .

When Swift returned to her tour in May following a brief hiatus, she completely switched up the setlist , including songs from her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department , for the first time while performing in Paris. In addition to making the record a permanent part of the lineup, Swift debuted new costumes and cut some past songs.

The European leg of the tour will run through August , with Swift returning to the U.S. for several shows in the fall before closing out the venture in Canada in December.

Swift previously commemorated important dates on the tour with special surprises for her audience. During her 87th concert in Paris , she made several nods to boyfriend Travis Kelce , whose Kansas City Chiefs jersey number is 87. She wore his NFL team’s colors and sang a mash-up of “The Alchemy” (which is rumored to be about Kelce, 34) and “Treacherous.” She even gave Kelce — who was in the audience — a sweet shout-out, asking the crowd, “Can you believe this is our 87th show of the Eras Tour ?”

While performing her 89th show in Sweden, Swift paid tribute to her 1989 album with a mash-up of three songs from the record: “Say Don’t Go,” “Welcome to New York” and “Clean.”

Throughout the tour’s run, Swift has spoken about its impact on her.

“I’ve always had fun doing this. I can’t believe I get to do music as a career. That’s crazy,” she said at the Los Angeles premiere of her Eras Tour movie in October 2023. “I’ve always had so much fun doing it. I’ve never had this much fun in my life as I have had on the Eras Tour . It is far and away just the most electric experience of my life.”

In December 2023, Swift told TIME that she wanted to “superserve the fans” with her biggest tour ever.

“They had to work really hard to get the tickets,” she explained. “I wanted to play a show that was longer than they ever thought it would be because that makes me feel good leaving the stadium.”

Swift noted that the Eras Tour made her “the most fulfilled I’ve ever felt” in her life.

“I know I’m going on that stage whether I’m sick, injured, heartbroken, uncomfortable or stressed,” she continued. “That’s part of my identity as a human being now. If someone buys a ticket to my show, I’m going to play it unless we have some sort of force majeure.”

Shake it off, Swifties.

Taylor Swift has officially revealed when her history-making Eras Tour will end. The musician made the announcement during the tour’s 100th show in Liverpool, England, Thursday.

“This is the very first time I’ve ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December,” she said, per USA Today.

She reportedly confirmed the news during her “All Too Well” speech before the 10-minute song.

“I once used to have hobbies,” she joked to the crowd at the concert.

“You have done so much to be with us,” she continued. “You’ve made plans so far in advance. You planned what you were going to wear. You memorized lyrics. You got yourself here. You figured out parking. You figured out transportation, and I want to spend the 100th show just thinking about that and living in that moment and being here with you, and just know I appreciate every single ounce of effort that you put in to be with us when this show reaches triple digits in shows. So thank you!”

Swift, 34, kicked off her sold-out tour in Arizona on March 17, 2023. It’s since become the highest-grossing tour of all-time after surpassing $1 billion in revenue.

The Eras Tour even had a theatrical run in the fall, when Swift released a concert film in October 2023 that grossed an additional $261.6 million worldwide.

Two months earlier, she added 15 dates for her North America leg, including a six-night stint in Canada.

“Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era Miami, New Orleans, Indy and Toronto: The Eras Tour is coming to you in 2024,” she tweeted at the time.

Swift kicked off 2024 by performing in Tokyo, Australia and Singapore. She then took a two-month break — and dropped her 11th studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department” — before resuming her shows in Paris in May.

In a span of two years, Swift’s split from British actor Joe Alwyn went public after six years together, she began dating Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce in September 2023, was named Time magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year , dropped “TTPD,” won Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards for “Midnights” (breaking a record for securing her fourth win in the category) and released her concert film “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour.”

She also was officially declared a billionaire. Forbes released its 2024 World’s Billionaires List in April, and she made the cut for the very first time with an estimated fortune of $1.1 billion — thanks in large part to the tour.

Swift’s three-hour Eras Tour set covers 11 albums, 44 songs, and is chock-full of costume changes and large-scale production transformations. She also overhauled her looks and setlist when she introduced songs from “TTPD.”

Swift’s shows also included plenty of friendship bracelets — and fellow stars. Celebrities who have attended include Kelce, Emma Stone, Shania Twain, Ellen Pompeo, Bradley Cooper, Gigi Hadid, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Reese Witherspoon, Charlize Theron, Selena Gomez, Laura Dern, Mariska Hargitay, Maren Morris, Karlie Kloss, Mindy Kaling, Diplo, Haim, Jack Antonoff and many more.

Taylor Swift announces official end of Eras Tour during 100th show: 'Like, that's it'

The singer made the comments while celebrating the 100th show of the tour.

dgd tour 2023 setlist

Taylor Swift is thinking about the end of her Eras era.

During her Eras Tour stop in Liverpool on Thursday, the singer got reflective. The show was the 100th date on the massive worldwide tour, and Swift took the opportunity to talk about the end of the tour for the first time.

"I think a lot of people are like, well, how are you going to celebrate the 100th show?" she told the screaming crowd. "And for me, the celebration of the 100th show for me means this is the very first time I've ever acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is gonna end in December. Like, that's it."

She continued, "That feels like so far away from now. But then again, it feels like I just did my first show on this tour, because you guys have made this so much fun for us that we wanted to do 100 shows, 150-something shows."

The 14-time Grammy winner then added that the tour has "become my entire life" and she doesn't remember her hobbies anymore because "all I do when I'm not on stage is just like sit at home and try to think of some clever acoustic song mashups and thinking about what you might like to hear."

Swift then thanked fans for all the effort they've made to attend 100 shows of the Eras Tour, and told them how she wanted to celebrate the milestone. "I want to spend another show just thinking about that and living in this moment with you and being here with you and just know that I appreciate every single ounce of effort you put in to be with us when this tour reaches triple digits of shows. So thank you." She then proceeded to play fan-favorite "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" as usual, asking the obliging fans if they had 10 minutes to spare, as is custom.

About Dance Gavin Dance

Rejecting tired formulas at every step, Dance Gavin Dance merge progressive rock and post-hardcore with thick groove, brilliantly combining experimental music with hooks and a warped sense of humor. The group has amassed over 1.6 billion global streams, and 1.4 million album equivalent units sold across their catalog in the US alone. With hundreds of thousands of rabid fans engaged with Dance Gavin Dance on socials and their very own festival event, Swanfest, which sold out both its inaugural edition in 2019 and its triumphant, post-pandemic return in 2022 in the band’s hometown of Sacramento last April and is now set to hit the East Coast for the first time, it all amounts to a full force band facing a mainstream that has overlooked them for too long.

As the undeniable statistics keep mounting up, the fact becomes more and more clear that Dance Gavin Dance are becoming one of this generation’s most popular and enduring forces from the world of heavy music. As Pollstar put it “Sacramento, Calif.-based Dance Gavin Dance is not just any band.”

Taylor Swift revealed when her record-breaking Eras Tour will come to an end as she celebrated another milestone during her show in Liverpool, England.

“People have been like, ‘How are you going to celebrate the 100th show?'” the “Lover” songstress told fans at Anfield stadium Thursday, per Us Weekly .

“The celebration of the 100th show for me means this is the very first time I’ve acknowledged to myself and admitted that this tour is going to end in December. Like, that’s it.”

Taylor Swift

Swift, 34, described the tour — which is confirmed to end on December 8 in Vancouver, Canada — as the “most exhausting, all-encompassing, but most joyful, most rewarding, most wonderful thing that has ever happened in my life.”

“I think that this tour has really become my entire life,” she added. “It’s taken over everything. I think I once had hobbies, but I don’t know what they were anymore.

“All I do when I’m not on stage is sit at home and try to think of clever acoustic song mash-ups and think about what you might want to hear.”

The 14-time Grammy winner took the time to thank fans for turning the tour into a global sensation since she kicked off her first show in the U.S. in March 2023.

“You have done so much to be with us, right?” she said. “You’ve made plans so far in advance, you planned what you were going to wear, you memorized lyrics, you got yourselves here, you figured out parking, you figured out transportation.”

Since embarking on her tour, Swift has made a few changes to her setlist as she  added songs  from her recent album,  “The Tortured Poets Department.”

She’s performed a few tunes rumored to be about her beau, Travis Kelce, including “So High School.”

The Kansas City Chiefs star, 34, last appeared at Swift’s tour stop in Paris as she rang in her 87th show , which also happens to be his jersey number.

The “Cruel Summer” singer pulled out all the stops for her beau as she sported Chiefs colors in honor of him.
