With its fresh new take on the beloved tale of a young woman who is transformed from a chambermaid into a princess, this hilarious and romantic Rodgers + Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA combines the story’s classic elements – glass slippers, pumpkin, and a beautiful ball along with some surprising twists. More than just a pretty face with the right shoe size, this Cinderella is a contemporary figure living in a fairytale setting. She is a spirited young woman with savvy and soul who doesn’t let her rags or her gowns trip her up in her quest for kindness, compassion and forgiveness. She not only fights for her own dreams, but forces the prince to open his eyes to the world around him and realize his dreams too.

Rodgers + Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA has music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, a new book by Douglas Carter Beane and original book by Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical is directed by Mark Brokaw and choreographed by Josh Rhodes . Music adaptation, supervision and arrangements are by David Chase and orchestrations are by Danny Troob.

One of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s most popular titles, Rodgers + Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA was written for television — debuting in 1957 starring Julie Andrews. In 2013, the show made its long-overdue Broadway debut. Along with CINDERELLA , Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s legendary musicals include OKLAHOMA! , Carousel , The King and I , South Pacific and The Sound of Music .

Mr. Beane’s book for Rodgers + Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA blends masterfully with the musical’s cherished score with songs including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It’s Possible,” “Ten Minutes Ago” and “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful?”

The creative team includes scenic design by Tony® Award nominee Anna Louizos, costume design by six-time Tony® Award-winner William Ivey Long, lighting design by Tony® Award-winner Kenneth Posner and sound design by Tony® Award nominee Nevin Steinberg.

At the Palace Theatre, Chicago

Stunning production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella graces Chicago for the holidays

palace theatre

Cinderella is, by far, the finest National Touring Equity musical to grace a Chicago stage in years! It is a wonderful, beautifully staged and a gorgeously presented musical. It has all the elements of a fabulous family experience: a marvelous, lush score by Richard Rodgers with the smart lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. It has eye-popping sets and costumes (set design by  Anna Louizos, costumes by William Ivey Long). It has a new book by Douglas Carter Beane that updates and adds heart to Hammerstein’s fable.

TourCinderella0153r

But, the magic of this production lies in the staging. Director Mark Brokaw quickly engages us into the fairy tale as we become enamored by Ella’s (aka Cinderella) sweetness as she struggles to care for her mother and step sisters. Both Paige Faure in act one and understudy Audrey Cardwell in act two (Faure fell ill?) delivered the role of Ella with grace, humility, and enough sweetness to please. With the help of the crazy old woman, who Ella cares for, Ella is transformed to attend the Prince’s ball in a breathtakingly colorful scene that exemplifies the fine production qualities of this musical. Kecia Lewis is terrific as the Fairy Godmother as she both helps Ella as well as flies across the stage. She reward Ella (Cinderella) for her courage, kindness, and believing that, indeed, anything is possible if you believe in yourself. That duet, “Impossible/It’s Possible” is a memorable  ‘take-home’ song that kids will remember.

TourCinderella0030r

One of the best changes made in the story of Cinderella is how the Prince is portrayed. Here Andy Jones presents him as a likable, shy, naive young man who is under the spell of his prime minister, Sebastian (former Chicagoan Blake Hammond). We like the Prince’s goodness since he has the basic qualities of an enlightened monarch who strives to do the right thing for his subjects.

TourCinderella0435r

Cinderella’s pageantry and spectacle is nicely presented in several exquisite showstoppers that are filled with gorgeous choreography:  “The Prince is Giving a Ball” and the lush “Ten Minutes Age” and the “Cinderella Waltz.” The sheer beauty of these scenes are eye-candy.

TourCinderella0762r

The show  move swiftly as it mixes contemporary one-liners into the folk tale of the poor girl finally meeting her prince charming.  In this production, the voices are legitimate, especially from Kecia Lewis, and Antoine L. Smith as Lord Pinkleton.  Aynee Garcia was hoot as the outspoken plus-sized sister.

The look, the fairy tale atmosphere and the lush Rodger’s music upon the sweet Hammerstein lyrics and the rich voices with the stylish dances make this romantic fairy tale a wonderful holiday family treat. With Newsies down the Randolph street from Cinderella , Broadway In Chicago both boys and girls covered for the holidays. I’d advise seeing both terrific shows.

I might add that Cinderella is a prime example of the entertainment qualities offered when producers don’t try to skimp by casting non-Equity and non-union artists simply to make money. Disney and the producers of Cinderella get it -produce high quality touring  shows (like this fabulous Cinderella ) and audiences will come. The enthusiastic opening night audience cheered  loudly in recognition of the spectacular show they just witnessed. Hurry, you only have until January 4, 2015 to see this special production.

Highly Recommended

FACT SHEET: President   Biden Announces New Actions to Keep Families   Together

Since his first day in office, President Biden has called on Congress to secure our border and address our broken immigration system. As Congressional Republicans have continued to put partisan politics ahead of national security – twice voting against the toughest and fairest set of reforms in decades – the President and his Administration have taken actions to secure the border, including:

  • Implementing executive actions to bar migrants who cross our Southern border unlawfully from receiving asylum when encounters are high;
  • Deploying record numbers of law enforcement personnel, infrastructure, and technology to the Southern border;
  • Seizing record amounts of fentanyl at our ports of entry;
  • Revoking the visas of CEOs and government officials outside the U.S. who profit from migrants coming to the U.S. unlawfully; and
  • Expanding efforts to dismantle human smuggling networks and prosecuting individuals who violate immigration laws.

President Biden believes that securing the border is essential. He also believes in expanding lawful pathways and keeping families together, and that immigrants who have been in the United States for decades, paying taxes and contributing to their communities, are part of the social fabric of our country. The Day One immigration reform plan that the President sent to Congress reflects both the need for a secure border and protections for the long-term undocumented. While Congress has failed to act on these reforms, the Biden-Harris Administration has worked to strengthen our lawful immigration system. In addition to vigorously defending the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood arrivals) policy, the Administration has extended Affordable Care Act coverage to DACA recipients and streamlined, expanded, and instituted new reunification programs so that families can stay together while they complete the immigration process.  Still, there is more that we can do to bring peace of mind and stability to Americans living in mixed-status families as well as young people educated in this country, including Dreamers. That is why today, President Biden announced new actions for people who have been here many years to keep American families together and allow more young people to contribute to our economy.   Keeping American Families Together

  • Today, President Biden is announcing that the Department of Homeland Security will take action to ensure that U.S. citizens with noncitizen spouses and children can keep their families together.
  • This new process will help certain noncitizen spouses and children apply for lawful permanent residence – status that they are already eligible for – without leaving the country.
  • These actions will promote family unity and strengthen our economy, providing a significant benefit to the country and helping U.S. citizens and their noncitizen family members stay together.
  • In order to be eligible, noncitizens must – as of June 17, 2024 – have resided in the United States for 10 or more years and be legally married to a U.S. citizen, while satisfying all applicable legal requirements. On average, those who are eligible for this process have resided in the U.S. for 23 years.
  • Those who are approved after DHS’s case-by-case assessment of their application will be afforded a three-year period to apply for permanent residency. They will be allowed to remain with their families in the United States and be eligible for work authorization for up to three years. This will apply to all married couples who are eligible.
  • This action will protect approximately half a million spouses of U.S. citizens, and approximately 50,000 noncitizen children under the age of 21 whose parent is married to a U.S. citizen.

Easing the Visa Process for U.S. College Graduates, Including Dreamers

  • President Obama and then-Vice President Biden established the DACA policy to allow young people who were brought here as children to come out of the shadows and contribute to our country in significant ways. Twelve years later, DACA recipients who started as high school and college students are now building successful careers and establishing families of their own.
  • Today’s announcement will allow individuals, including DACA recipients and other Dreamers, who have earned a degree at an accredited U.S. institution of higher education in the United States, and who have received an offer of employment from a U.S. employer in a field related to their degree, to more quickly receive work visas.
  • Recognizing that it is in our national interest to ensure that individuals who are educated in the U.S. are able to use their skills and education to benefit our country, the Administration is taking action to facilitate the employment visa process for those who have graduated from college and have a high-skilled job offer, including DACA recipients and other Dreamers.

Lydia Ko and Jason Day

Tickets on sale now for second annual mixed-team competition

NAPLES, Fla., June 25, 2024— Tournament officials today announced three of the 16 teams who will compete in the second annual Grant Thornton Invitational, set to return Dec. 13-15, 2024, at the Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Florida.

Lydia Ko and Jason Day are scheduled to defend their title from last December. Ko and Day led after the second round and held on for a one-stroke victory.

World No. 1 Nelly Korda, who has won six times in 11 starts on the LPGA Tour this season, will play with current World No. 18 Tony Finau. Korda and Finau partnered in last year’s inaugural Grant Thornton Invitational and finished T4.

“The Grant Thornton Invitational is truly one of one and getting to drive the game forward alongside such a great player and person in Tony Finau is something I’m really looking forward to doing again this year in Naples,” said Korda.

“I’m excited to reunite Team FiNelly at The Grant Thornton Invitational — seeing the impact Nelly has had on the women’s game this year has been incredible, and I’m thrilled to have her as my partner again at one of the coolest events of the year,” said Finau.

Lexi Thompson, who has announced that this will be her final full season on the LPGA Tour, will conclude her season in Naples this December when she once again partners with Rickie Fowler. This twosome was T6 a year ago. Thompson, 29, turned pro when she was 15 years old and has 11 LPGA Tour wins during her career.

“We are thrilled to welcome back this elite group of players to Naples this December,” said Rob Hartman, Grant Thornton Invitational Tournament Director. “We couldn’t be happier with how the first few teams came together, and we look forward to creating 13 more compelling teams as the year unfolds.”

Tournament officials also announced today that tickets for the 2024 invitational are now on sale. There are three options to enjoy the mixed-team competition: General admission, the Michelob Ultra Brew House (an upgraded viewing experience between holes eight and 17) and the Garrison Brothers Distillery Bunker (a premier shared hospitality venue on the 18th green).

Cameron Young posts 59 at Travelers Championship for first sub-60 round on PGA Tour in 4 years

CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) — Cameron Young made a par putt from just inside 10 feet for an 11-under 59 on Saturday in the Travelers Championship, the first sub-60 round on the PGA Tour in nearly four years.

Young made two eagles on par 4s, holing out with wedge from 142 yards on the third hole and driving the 280-yard 15th hole within 4 feet.

It was the 13th sub-60 round since Al Geiberger first shot golf’s “magic number” at the 1977 Memphis Classic. Scottie Scheffler had been the most recent at the TPC Boston in 2020 at The Northern Trust.

“I can’t say I was expecting it,” Young said. “I’ve been playing better than the results have shown. Waking up this morning, I wasn’t really thinking I’m going to be 5 under through four. It was a lot of fun to do.”

This didn’t even get Young the distinction of owning the course record at the TPC River Highlands. Jim Furyk shot a 58 in 2016 at the Travelers Championship, the lowest round in PGA Tour history.

Young still moved from a tie for 43rd to a tie for 10th, five shots out of the lead.

Jordan Spieth became a footnote in history as the only PGA Tour player to twice play with someone who shot 59. Spieth also was in the group with Justin Thomas when he shot 59 in the opening round of the 2017 Sony Open.

Young was able to lift, clean and place his golf ball in the short grass because of soggy course conditions and the potential of more rain.

He could have gone even lower. After his eagle on the 15th hole, Young hit his tee shot to 7 feet on the par-3 16th and missed the short birdie putt. On the closing hole, needing birdie to tie Furyk’s record, his drive settled on the steep face of a fairway bunker and Young was unable to get it on the green.

He still made par for the seventh round of 59 or lower this year on tours around the world.

“To have a day like today where things start going in, and it feels like you’re reward for good shots, it leaves me with a good taste in my mouth,” Young said.

He finished at 13-under par and was tied with Tom Kim, who was watching some of Young’s round on a video screen at the practice range as Kim was getting ready for the start of his third round. Kim shot a 65 and led by one over Scottie Scheffler and Akshay Bhatia.

The other six rounds at 59 or lower this year include Joaquin Niemann on LIV Golf and a record-tying 57 by Cristobal del Solar on the Korn Ferry Tour in Bogota, Colombia.

Post Malone to go on tour with highly anticipated country album ‘F-1 Trillion’

The popular rapper has been making waves in the music industry by breaking into the country genre.

cinderella first national tour

By Chase Martin

After months of speculation, Post Malone has confirmed his foray into country music with the announcement of a new album and an upcoming tour.

Malone, traditionally known for pop and hip-hop hits, has shown an affinity for country music recently by performing at events like the Stagecoach Festival and collaborating with artists such as Dwight Yoakam, Brad Paisley and Morgan Wallen, as previously reported by the Deseret News .

A clip of Malone singing a cover of Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places” went viral. The 40-second video posted to X shows him practicing to hit the song’s low notes.

“He’s one of those guys that when he sings, he’s alive. And you can tell that he just loves to do it,” Brooks remarked in an episode of “Inside Studio G” when he saw the clip of Malone singing his song.

Additionally, Malone collaborated with Beyoncé on her country track “Cowboy Carter.”

All of these events led fans to excitedly anticipate Malone’s own country music album.

What is Post Malone’s country album called?

Malone has long expressed a love for country music and his desire to break into the genre.

According to People , in a 2022 interview on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show,” Malone expressed, “To be honest, there’s nothing stopping me from taking a camera or setting up in my studio in Utah and just recording a country album.”

In late 2023, per Taste of Country , Malone teased his country project during a Twitch stream while playing the video game Apex Legends, stating, “Country record is coming.”

The first concrete sign of the album came when he released a single featuring Morgan Wallen titled “I Had Some Help.” The track soared to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, holding the No. 1 spot for five consecutive weeks, according to Holler .

Malone officially announced his country album, “F-1 Trillion,” with a billboard in Nashville that said, “The name of the new Post Malone album is F-1,000,000,000,000.” He posted a picture of the billboard to X on June 18.

He followed this reveal with another single, “Pour Me a Drink,” featuring Blake Shelton, which debuted live at the CMA Fest 2024.

The full “F-1 Trillion” album is set to release on Aug. 16.

When is Post Malone’s ‘F-1 Trillion Tour’?

To support his album, Malone will embark on the “F-1 Trillion Tour,” beginning Sept. 8 at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre in West Valley City.

The tour will cover 21 cities across the United States, concluding in Nashville, Tennessee, on Oct. 19.

“I love y’all so very much, and I’m so excited to get out and play new music for you,” Malone said in a press release.

Presale tickets for Citi card members will be available starting June 26 at 10 a.m. local time, running through June 30. General ticket sales will begin on July 1 via Live Nation .
