You will be responsible for all aspects of the day to day running of the store whilst building and sustaining loyal and repeat customers through exceptional service that Cassidy clients expect from us.

• A minimum of 3 years experience in a travel retail/wholesale environment

• Proven sales experience and ability to drive profitability with sound commercial acumen
• GDS knowledge

As summer begins, Explore WesternMass enlist mayors to boost tourism

W EST SPRINGFIELD — With kids getting out of school and attractions ramping up, Western Mass tourism boosters enlisted area mayors Friday promoting the region’s third-largest industry.

“We need to market ourselves,” said Eastern States Exposition President Eugene Cassidy who also serves this year as chairman of the board for the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Ray Berry, president of White Lion Brewery and chairman of the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau outreach committee, said area residents have a role to play. Word-of-mouth is the best promotion.

“If someone tells you something first-hand,” Berry said. ‘You’ll believe it.”

The bureau – which uses the marketing name Explore WesternMass — spoke to mayors Domenic J. Sarno of Springfield, John L. Vieau of Chicopee and Christopher Johnson of Agawam at its first-ever mayors’ roundtable. They gathered at the Big E in West Springfield.

The stakes are enormous. Citing statistics collected by research firm Tourism Economics first released in January , the visitors bureau said tourism supported 11,466 jobs in the area — Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties — 2022. That makes tourism the third biggest industry here following health care and education just as it is the third-biggest industry in the state.

And many of those jobs are both a young person’s first job and also a young person’s first opportunity for a leadership or management position, said Peter Carmichael, president of Six Flags New England in Agawam.

“I meet people all the time who started their careers here,” he said.

Six Flags, which begins the weekday season for its water park next week, has a staff of 3,000 seasonal workers. A third of those employees live in Springfield and two thirds are spread between core cities of Agawam, West Springfield and Springfield.

Six Flags doesn’t release attendance figures for individual parks.

Tourism in Western Massachusetts had a cumulative $1.3 billion economic impact in 2022, a year in which the region drew four million tourists who spent $872 million, or $2.3 million a day, according to the visitors bureau.

Johnson told of how close Agawam came to losing Six Flags during the transition from Riverside Park to corporate ownership. The new Six Flags owners had plans to build in West Hartford, he said.

Vieau said Chicopee might not have the attractions like the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Big E or Six Flags, but it’s got Westover Air Reserve Base and its civilian airport and hotels and restaurants that depend on tourism.

He said Chicopee is developing downtown Chicopee Center to make it more lively.

Sarno cited last weekend’s Ironman 70.3 Western Massachusetts as well as Hooplandia next week, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament both at the Big E and at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

But Mary Kay Wydra, visitors bureau president, said the tourism industry still needs support on Beacon Hill so the bureau can continue to receive the state dollars that make up the bulk of its $2.1 annual budget.

Ilim Group Presents its New KLB Mill to Industry Players

Presentation of the largest kraftliner production site in Russia took place at the 27th International Exhibition of the Packaging Industry RosUpack

The presentation of the Big Ust-Ilimsk Project, involving the construction of Russia’s one-of-a-kind pulp and board (KLB) mill in the Irkutsk Oblast, was one of the key events at RosUpack 2023. When speaking at the plenary session on corrugated board packaging market development, Alexey Chenyaev, Ilim’s Senior Vice President, Sales, Supply Chain Management and Packaging, focused on the advanced manufacturing and environmental solutions implemented at the new KLB Mill and prospects for sales market expansion it will secure.

After KLB Mill ramp-up (600,000 tons of kraftliner per year), the total annual output of Ilim Group will amount to 4.3 million tons. The Company will be one of the world’s largest producers of unbleached packaging materials and will strengthen its leadership in the Chinese market of wood-free corrugated materials with a share of approximately 50 to 60%.

The Big Ust-Ilimsk project was met by exhibitors with great interest. This year the event was attended by more than 740 companies from 19 countries. Ilim’s booth with an area of 140 m2 was one of the largest one at the site and was operated by about 50 experts from Sales and Corrugated Box Business Management Departments. The booth was attended by over 60 key accounts and more than 120 representatives of various companies, including such major ones as Heinz, MARS and KDV-Group.

Despite the importance of Irkutsk Airport, most travellers still arrive via the Trans-Siberian Railway , which stops at (from west to east): Taishet (junction with the Baikal-Amur Mainline ), Nizhneudinsk , Usolye-Sibirskoe , Angarsk , Irkutsk , among other less frequented settlements.

Baikal Highway crosses the region from west to east. A bus from Ulan-Ude connects Irkutsk with Buryatia.

Bratsk and Ust-Orda are accessible via the Baikal-Amur Mainline from the Trans-Siberian Railway junction at Taishet.
