Will USMNT star Christian Pulisic still be with Chelsea?

Christian Pulisic, the 24-year-old standout for the U.S. men's national team , is under contract with Chelsea  through the 2023-24 Premier League season. However, a mass exodus of players — including Pulisic — is expected this summer, according to ESPN . Since an ownership group led by American Todd Boehly took over in May 2022, Chelsea has experienced a chaotic existence . The club added 18 new players at a cost of approximately $650 million. The club fired manager Thomas Tuchel, then brought in a new manager in Graham Potter  on a five-year contract , only to fire him after 31 matches. Former England national team and Premier League star Frank Lampard was appointed interim manager  in April.

All of that change has not helped on the pitch, as Chelsea — which won the UEFA Champions League just two years ago — currently sits in 11th place in the Premier League table.

With Chelsea going through three managers in four years, Pulisic has been unable to secure a consistent starting position with the club. The influx of new players recently means Chelsea will be looking to offload the USMNT star, as well as other notable players such as strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Romelu Lukaku (who is on loan at Inter Milan), midfielder Mateo Kovacic and defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Who are other USMNT players in Premier League Summer Series?

Pulisic isn't the only USMNT player who could be participating in the Premier League Summer Series. Fulham features American defenders Tim Ream and Antonee Robinson, each of whom played significant roles for the USMNT at the 2022 World Cup.

Busy summer of soccer in U.S.

The Premier League Summer Series will be competing for the American soccer fan's attention amid a number of competitions taking place this summer.

The women's World Cup kicks off on July 20, with the USWNT playing its first game on July 21 against Vietnam at 9 p.m. ET in Auckland, New Zealand.

On the heels of the completion of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on July 16, the Leagues Cup — a unique competition featuring every team in Major League Soccer and Mexico's Liga MX — kicks off on July 21 . The final of the Leagues Cup will be held on Aug. 19.

While the NWSL will be taking a break in regular-season play during the women's World Cup , the league will be hold some games for its in-season tournament — the Challenge Cup — in late July and early August.

In addition, Wrexham AFC  — the fifth-tier Welsh soccer club owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McIlhenney and subject of a popular documentary — will play a friendly against Manchester United  in San Diego on July 25.

The English Premier League’s summer tour will kick off in Philadelphia

Chelsea, Fulham, Newcastle, Aston Villa, Brentford and Brighton will all come to town to play at Lincoln Financial Field on July 22 and 23.

Hershey's Christian Pulisic (right) could play for Chelsea in Philadelphia this summer if he's still with the team.

Update: Tickets are now on sale. Click here for details on how to buy them.

The English Premier League is bringing a six-team exhibition tour to the United States in July, and Philadelphia will be one of its destinations.

Lincoln Financial Field will host all six teams over the weekend of July 22-23: Chelsea vs. Brighton, Fulham vs. Brentford, and Newcastle United vs. Aston Villa.

It will be the first major soccer event at the Linc since the U.S. women’s national team played there in August 2019 . And while the visitors will come from abroad, there will be at least one local angle: Philadelphia-based Comcast spends billions of dollars on Premier League broadcast rights, and its TV and streaming channels will show all the games.

If you were expecting a different local angle, that’s for good reason. Hershey’s Christian Pulisic , the biggest American men’s soccer star, plays for Chelsea. But with a new manager coming this summer and an overstuffed roster of big players, it’s widely expected that Pulisic at least will test the waters on leaving the Blues this summer .

» READ MORE: Christian Pulisic’s ‘fearless’ drive has made a kid from Hershey a World Cup star

So if you want to buy tickets when they go on sale April 25, don’t assume you’ll be able to watch Pulisic here.

Those six teams aren’t the only English teams coming over. Manchester United and Arsenal are too, but separate from this. United will play Rob McElhenney-owned Wrexham on July 25 in San Diego and Dortmund on July 30 in Las Vegas and probably has another game to announce.

Arsenal will be the MLS All-Star team’s opponent on July 19 in D.C., and it might set up other games while in the States.

What about Leeds United, featuring Medford’s Brenden Aaronson and fellow American stars Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie? They’d sell a boatload of tickets here, and the club, and the Premier League surely knows it — not least because the San Francisco 49ers have a big stake in Leeds’ ownership.

» READ MORE: From Leeds to Philadelphia, Brenden Aaronson’s first Premier League goal was big news

The answer is found in the standings. Leeds is in serious danger of relegation, currently safe by just two points with eight games to go. A whopping nine of the league’s 20 teams are in the relegation fight. If Leeds goes down, it wouldn’t be able to be part of a Premier League tour.

All six touring teams are in the top 11, led by third-place Newcastle. Chelsea is the worst of them, remarkably, in 11th place and far off its usual place among the title contenders.

The Athletic reported that Fulham came in for Leeds so the league could stop worrying about whether Leeds would stay up. Fulham has its own big-name Americans in Tim Ream and Antonee “Jedi” Robinson .

» READ MORE: Zack Steffen opens up about missing the World Cup and returning to the U.S. men’s soccer team last month

Chelsea still should easily sell the most tickets of any of the teams involved because it has the biggest fan base. Newcastle could attract the most attention, though, because its majority owner is Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund . The Saudi government has insisted it doesn’t control the team, but that is in dispute.

In the ongoing U.S. court case between the PGA Tour and Saudi-funded LIV Golf , lawyers for the PIF claimed sovereign immunity because the fund is “a sovereign instrumentality of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” and its chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan — who also chairs Newcastle United — is “a sitting minister of the government.”

That got the attention of not just the Premier League, which bars governments from direct roles in running its teams. When a PIF-led consortium bought Newcastle in 2021, Premier League chief executive Richard Masters told the BBC that if the league found the Saudi government to be involved in the team, “we can remove the consortium as owners of the club.”

It remains to be seen how the matter will play out.

The other venues for the Premier League’s tour will be Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium; Orlando’s Exploria Stadium; Harrison, N.J.’s Red Bull Arena; and Landover, Md.,’s FedEx Field.

Interestingly, the Union also have a home game on July 22, against Mexico’s Club Tijuana in the new Leagues Cup tournament between MLS and Liga MX teams. The kickoff time for that game has not been set yet. We’ll see if it is set to not overlap with Chelsea-Brighton, which likely will draw a bigger crowd than Subaru Park’s 18,500-seat capacity.

2023 Premier League summer tour schedule

Saturday, July 22: Chelsea vs. Brighton & Hove Albion in Philadelphia (7 p.m.)

Sunday, July 23: Fulham vs. Brentford (4 p.m.) and Newcastle United vs. Aston Villa (7 p.m.) in Philadelphia

Wednesday, July 26: Brentford vs. Brighton & Hove Albion (5:30 p.m.) in Atlanta; Fulham vs. Aston Villa in Orlando (7 p.m.); Chelsea vs. Newcastle United (8:15 p.m.) in Atlanta

Friday, July 28: Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Newcastle United in Harrison, N.J. (7:30 p.m.)

Villa confirm 2024 pre-season schedule with five games announced

Aston villa have announced the club’s pre-season plans for the upcoming summer, with another trip to the usa forming an integral part of our preparations for the new campaign..

Just as we did last year, Villa will play Stateside for three games across three different cities, and while Unai Emery’s focus along with his players will be on the football aspect and being in top condition for the start of the season, it’s also likely to be an important tour from a commercial perspective too.

READ MORE: Villa pair could form deadly attacking duo instead of fear of exit

As per the club’s statement , Villa will face Columbus Crew, RB Leipzig and Club America in Ohio, New Jersey and Chicago respectively, while we’ll also have our traditional opener at Walsall before we depart.

There’s an exciting trip to Borussia Dortmund to look forward to as well on our return, and so it will hopefully prove to be vital preparation for the 2024/25 campaign, particularly if we’re able to qualify for the Champions League.

While we hope to see our senior squad build their fitness and sharpness over the duration of this upcoming pre-season, it will also be an opportunity for Tyrone Mings, Emiliano Buendia and Jacob Ramsey to get back to top form after their extended stints on the sidelines due to injury.

It remains to be seen if it comes too soon for Boubacar Kamara, but the Frenchman perhaps will benefit from being around the squad as he continues his recovery, or Emery and his medical staff will feel it’s best if he stays behind and continues to receive treatment at Bodymoor Heath.

That’s all before we even consider potential new signings too, and so along with the commercial factors as Villa celebrate our 150th anniversary, it will hopefully prove to be a highly productive schedule.

Villa’s statement adds that one more domestic fixture is yet to be announced, while all games will be streamed on VillaTV and further information will be shared on tickets at a later date.

England's top-flight clubs are jetting off across the globe this year. Stay up to date with all the fixtures and results from Premier League preseason

  • Most pre-season fixtures will get underway after the conclusion of this summer's major international tournaments in mid-July.
  • At least half of England's top-flight clubs have planned lucrative tours to the United States this summer.
  • The 2024/25 Premier League season begins on 17th August 2024.

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. Pre-season serves as a crucial buildup to the unforgiving competitive footballing calendar for Premier League clubs. After a brief respite - for the few players not participating in Euro 2024 or its South American equivalent, the Copa America - England's top-flight teams steel themselves for the coming campaign with a set of friendly fixtures.

These matches, interspersed with intensive training regimes, are scattered across all four corners of the globe. At least 10 clubs have scheduled energy-sucking tours of the United States, while three other teams are heading to Asia. Everywhere from Australia to Norway will also have the honour of hosting an undercooked set of Premier League players this summer.

Each club's logistics department has had to get creative to squeeze as many lucrative fixtures into the calendar before the 2024/25 Premier League season gets underway on 17th August. Here's a full rundown of every team's pre-season plans and how they have fared so far.

Arsenal 's failed bid to win the Premier League title had barely concluded when Mikel Arteta turned his attention towards the 2024/25 campaign. "Now we focus on what's in front," the Spanish coach told supporters after finishing runners-up to Manchester City for the second season on the spin, "and if we keep moving forwards, we can achieve anything."

The Gunners amassed 89 points in their ultimately doomed assault on top spot, the second-highest tally in Arsenal's Premier League history. This haul was bolstered by the club's imperious form in the 'Big-Six' mini-league , as they went unbeaten against their direct rivals. Arteta will pit his wits against two members of the competition's most successful clubs with fixtures against Manchester United and Liverpool in the US this summer.

Arsenal Pre-Season Guide: Tour, Fixtures, Kick-Off Times & How to Watch

Aston Villa have plenty to celebrate this summer. As the Midlands giant prepares for its first-ever season of Champions League football, the club will also mark their 150th anniversary with a tour of the United States.

A century and a half after four delicate members of the Male Adult Bible Class at the Aston Villa Wesleyan Chapel decided that rugby was too physical for their disposition, opting for football as a winter pastime, the seven-time top-flight champions will face three clubs from as many countries in Eastern USA. Bookending the Stateside trip, Villa open pre-season with a traditional trip to Walsall before concluding the preparation period against surprise Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund.

Bournemouth are yet to reveal the exact dates and times of their pre-season fixtures, but the club have divulged a broad plan for this summer. The Cherries will be based at LA Galaxy's state-of-the-art training centre, which also hosts the US men's and women's national teams, for two undisclosed fixtures on the West Coast.

Andoni Iraola's impressive outfit will return to a more familiar shoreline for another pair of friendlies at the club's home stadium. Bournemouth hugely benefitted from the long miles clocked up during 2023 pre-season training, enjoying a strong finish to the previous campaign once Iraola's complex pressing demands had fully sunk in. Over the final three months of the season, only four clubs won more Premier League games than Bournemouth.

Brentford's unadventurous early pre-season plans may have been informed by their troublesome 2023/24 campaign. For the first time since returning to England's top flight in 2021, the Bees flirted with relegation . The campaign was coloured by a dreadful start as Thomas Frank's side won just one of their first eight league games.

The smartly run capital club embarked upon a sprawling tour of the US in 2023, cramming nine matches in five cities across barely a week. Injuries to key figures compounded Brentford's rocky form and the Bees only secured their top-flight status in the final weeks of the season.

In their continued upward trajectory, Brighton are embarking upon a pre-season tour of Japan for the first time in the club's history. The Seagulls flew to the US in 2023 and have made plans to head east this summer to capitalise upon the club's growing profile across the globe.

Kaoru Mitoma has been behind the spike in Brighton's popularity in Japan over recent years. The J-League winner with Kawasaki Frontale enjoyed a breakthrough Premier League campaign throughout the 2022/23 season, bewitching England's top flight with unrivalled dribbling skills which he famously honed during an extended stay at university . Injury hampered Mitoma last season but he will certainly be front and centre of Brighton's two-match tour of Japan.

This will be the third season on the spin that Chelsea have conducted a pre-season tour of the United States. Last year's American sojourn ended in disaster as star signing Christopher Nkunku pulled up with a knee injury after a 1-1 draw with Borussia Dortmund. The revered French forward struggled for fitness throughout the entirety of the campaign, making just two Premier League starts all term.

There will be no return for Chelsea to the bobbly playing surface of Chicago's Soldier Field this summer. The Blues will simply be travelling to every other available venue on the continent. Chelsea's five-match series begins against third-tier Wrexham on the West Coast and ends with a lofty matchup with European royalty Real Madrid on the other side of the country. The tour spans 12 days, five states and almost 4,000 miles.

In the same summer that Crystal Palace set sail on a tour of the US, the off-season began with the announcement that their American co-owner John Textor was trying to sell his 45% stake in the club. But nothing could dampen the mood surrounding the south London outfit as they soared through the final month of the 2023/24 campaign.

Oliver Glasner's modern approach - along with the return to fitness of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise - saw Palace collect 19 points from their final seven games, a miraculous haul only bettered by eventual champions Manchester City. Palace's opening fixture of the club's first pre-season under Glasner isn't until August.

As late as the end of May, Everton had not confirmed any pre-season plans. Former Everton midfielder Michael Ball expressed his concern in the Liverpool Echo, fretting: "The players don't know where they're going or what kind of quality they'll be facing and that's hurt us."

Everton were one of the first clubs to feel the negative impact of an arduous pre-season tour. The top-flight runners-up in 1909 bounced between Portugal, Cape Verde and Brazil. After two months on a ship, the Toffees slumped to 10th place the following campaign. Wherever Sean Dyche's side eventually travel, the journey shouldn't be quite so strenuous.

For the second year in succession, Fulham will face Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim in pre-season. The former village team propelled to the German top flight by the unloved billionaire owner Dietmar Hopp lost 2-1 to Fulham at Craven Cottage in August 2023. Raul Jimenez's strike that afternoon was his only goal until November before embarking upon a brief return to form.

Much like their upcoming opponents, Hoffenheim tailed off after a bright start to the 2023/24 campaign once their position in mid-table was secure before a final flourish. Pellegrino Matarazzo's side concluded the season with a 4-2 victory over dethroned German royalty Bayern Munich .

Luton Town's executives mulled over plenty of options ahead of the club's first Premier League season in 22 years. The Championship runners-up considered cashing in on their rediscovered top-flight status with a lucrative tour of the US before settling upon an understated schedule designed to offer the best preparation for a successful campaign.

Kieran McKenna snubbed the likes of Brighton and Chelsea to sign a new four-year contract ahead of pre-season. The sought-after coach will lead the Tractor Boys into a home friendly against German sister club Fortuna Dusseldorf in July ahead of an intensive training camp in Austria, which served as the perfect grounding for Ipswich's promotion campaign last term.

No one at Leicester City would have wanted to tempt fate, but their Premier League promotion was effectively secured long before they mathematically finished top of the Championship. The delay in the club's finalisation of their pre-season plans likely revolves around their uncertain financial future after being charged by the Premier League.

Leicester were accused of breaching the division's profit and sustainability rules (PSR), the modern equivalent of financial fair play regulations (FFP), in March 2024. The independent commission analysing the case is not working to a deadline but is expected to make its conclusion regarding a potential punishment - which could come in the form of a points deduction - before the 2024/25 campaign. Whether Leicester have scrambled together any pre-season games by then remains to be seen.

Arne Slot's unofficial debut as Liverpool manager will be a friendly against Real Betis in Pittsburgh's Acrisure Stadium at the end of July. The Dutch tactician has the unenviable task of following Jurgen Klopp, widely considered to be one of Liverpool's greatest managers of all time .

While most of his squad is competing in either the Euros or Copa America this summer, Slot won't have long to work with his new set of players before coming up against two Premier League opponents for the first time. Arsenal took four points off Liverpool last season and Manchester United knocked their fierce rivals out of the FA Cup.

Liverpool Pre-Season Guide: Tour, Fixtures, Kick-Off Times & How to Watch

After six Premier League titles in seven years and an unprecedented four top-flight trophies on the spin, Pep Guardiola and his staff have effectively mastered the art of tailoring a pre-season schedule to ensure that the players peak at the right time. Unlike Chelsea, Manchester City have planned their US friendlies to limit the amount of travelling.

England's all-conquering outfit will be strictly based on the East Coast, taking in a glittering list of former European Cup winners as their opponents. The most eye-catching fixture may be Guardiola's reunion with his former side Barcelona at the end of July, although Xavi Hernandez - the Catalan's technical leader on the pitch - has been replaced in the Spanish club's dugout by German coach Hansi Flick.

Manchester United's sporting arm may be under the control of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, but the club's marketing department is still clearly governed by the hotly controversial majority shareholders, the Glazer family. United's pre-season schedule is a perfect example of the club's strategy - prioritising revenue over results - over the last two decades.

Before setting off on a three-game tour of the US, where the Red Devils come up against Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool, United have set up a pair of European friendlies. The FA Cup winners start their pre-season with a clash against Norwegian outfit Rosenborg in Trondheim ahead of taking on Scottish giants Rangers at Murrayfield.

'Paul Scholes Regen' Among 5 Man United Youngsters Who Could Emerge in Pre-Season

Before most clubs had even begun their brief summer holiday, Newcastle United managed to squeeze in a pair of post-season friendlies on the other side of the globe. Two days after edging a penalty shootout against Tottenham Hotspur in Melbourne, Eddie Howe sent out a young side to face an XI of the best Australia's top flight had to offer.

Much to the surprise of most in attendance, the A-League All Stars romped to an 8-0 thrashing of their Premier League foes. The wonderfully named Ben Old - who was only 21 at the time - set the tone with an opening goal after five minutes. Howe's senior players should be back for the club's matches at the end of the summer in Japan.

Nottingham Forest are yet to release the details of their pre-season plans. In fairness to the club's owner Evangelos Mariankis, he had his attention diverted towards the end of the 2023/24 campaign. In the same month that Forest's sister club Olympiacos became the first Greek side to ever win a European trophy, the Tricky Trees were battling against relegation and a points deduction for breach of financial fair play regulations .

The free-spending Midlands outfit may not be in an economic position to make as many personnel changes as recent years gone by. This will at least afford manager Nuno Espirito Santo a settled squad for the mysterious slate of pre-season friendlies.

Southampton only secured a return to the Premier League with victory in the play-off final on 26th May. Nothing about the club's near future - let alone their pre-season schedule - could be etched in stone until their position in the English football pyramid was decided.

While the technical team on the south coast frantically scour flight listings and hotel availability, manager Russell Martin will be mentally preparing himself for his first season of Premier League football on the touchline. The former Scotland international amassed 125 appearances in England's top flight - more than the likes of cult figures such as Jay-Jay Okocha or Yannick Bolasie - while marshalling Norwich City's backline, but has never managed above the Championship.

Spurs got started on the preparations for next season early. Within 65 hours of the final whistle bringing a halt to Tottenham's Premier League campaign, Ange Postecoglou's side had travelled 10,500 miles to line up against Newcastle in a friendly at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

A dizzying pre-season schedule which takes the club to Scotland and South Korea could be seen as disruptive, but the Lilywhites were inspired by a chaotic buildup in 2023. Despite a lack of senior figures to oversee the club's transfer strategy last summer, Spurs pulled off some of the best signings of the season and enjoyed a record-breaking start in the Premier League, amassing 26 points from the first 10 games. Injuries derailed the campaign which still brought a return to European football.

Tottenham Pre-Season Guide: Tour, Fixtures, Kick-Off Times & How to Watch

Julen Lopetegui has been afforded an easy start to his West Ham United tenure with a friendly against local non-league side Dagenham & Redbridge before he is thrown to the wolves, quite literally. The new Hammers boss took charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers' entire 2023 pre-season before stepping down six days ahead of their Premier League opener against Manchester United after falling out with the club's ownership.

The 2020 Europa League winner with Sevilla has a reputation for summer exits. Lopetegui was forced out of his post as Spain boss on the eve of the 2018 World Cup after agreeing to take over Real Madrid. If he doesn't get itchy feet once again, Lopetegui will lead the Hammers into a US tour which features fixtures against Wolves and Crystal Palace in Florida.

Gary O'Neil has taken charge of 72 Premier League matches, steering Bournemouth and Wolves comfortably clear of relegation while collecting a few notable scalps along the way, without taking charge of a single pre-season fixture. The tactically savvy English coach will finally have the luxury of an extended preparation period this summer as Wolves travel to the US for the inaugural Stateside Cup.

Wolves lost all four Premier League games against their upcoming pre-season opponents last term, shipping 11 combined goals when facing Crystal Palace and West Ham. O'Neil will undoubtedly be in search of improved results but may be satisfied if the friendlies simply don't involve VAR .

USMNT rumors: McKennie to Aston Villa, Pukstas to Arsenal, Ferreira to Club America

  • Weston McKennie linked with Aston Villa
  • Arsenal interested in Rokas Pukstas
  • Jesus Ferreira on Club America shortlist

USMNT rumors: Weston McKennie to Aston Villa

Weston McKennie was a very important player for Juventus last season where he played 38 times and made 10 assists. He also helped them win the Coppa Italia. However, due to him not being able to agree a new deal with the club he could be on his way back to the Premier League .

TuttoJuve has reported that, "Aston Villa, Everton and Newcastle are observing him carefully, Juventus is asking for a figure between 20 and 25 million."

McKennie did not have the best of spells when he was on loan at Leeds United. Therefore, English fans may be apprehensive about their clubs signing the USMNT midfielder.

Rokas Pukstas to Arsenal

Rokas Pukstas is yet to play for the USMNT but he has represented the United States at U20 level. He is currently playing his club soccer with Hadjuk Split in Croatia but a move to the Premier League could be on the cards.

According to The Daily Mail , "European clubs, particularly from Germany, have started to take note of his performances as well as scouts from Premier League trio (Aston) Villa, West Ham and Arsenal."

Jesus Ferreira to Club America

Many USMNT players have recently moved to Liga MX to ply their trade. Cade Cowell is now with Chivas Guadalajara, whilst Brandon Vazquez plays for Monterrey. Jesus Ferreira could be the next American player to make the move from MLS to Mexico.

Edgar Moreno posted on X, "Ferreira is in a short list of players that Club America is Considering for the next Campaign. (Andre) Jardine asked for competition for Diego Valdes & Henry Martin. Ferreira can play the 10 or 9 Role & would be cover for both positions."

Ferreira currently plays for FC Dallas and he has scored twice and made two assists in nine MLS games this year.

McKennie linked with Aston Villa move as Juve ponder sale

A ston Villa are apparently discussing a deal with Juventus to bring Weston McKennie back to England. The United States men’s national team star previously played for Leeds United during the second half of the 2022/23 season.

The temporary move, however, did not exactly pan out as the Whites fell out of the Premier League.

Although his time in Yorkshire was less than ideal, McKennie has been an important piece of the puzzle back at Juve. The American appeared in 38 of the Italian side’s 43 total matches on the 2023/24 season. Not only did he feature heavily for the Old Lady, but McKennie performed quite well overall. In fact, the midfielder had the same Whoscored rating as star striker Dusan Vlahovic during Serie A play.

With the American in the team, Juve managed to finish third in the final top flight standings and collect the Coppa Italia. It was the prestigious club’s first trophy in three years. Despite the relatively successful season, McKennie’s future at the Italian side is currently under threat.

American star recently rejected Juve’s latest contract offer

The American’s current contract will expire in June of 2025. Recent reports claimed that Juve has offered their midfielder a new deal. However, the club’s brass apparently wanted McKennie to accept a pay cut to remain with the team. These reports went on to state that the player has not signed the offer sheet. As a result of the snag, the midfielder will leave this summer.

According to fresh reports in Italy, Villa exec Monchi was recently seen in Turin to discuss a potential deal involving McKennie. Mochi, the English side’s president of football operations, is fairly familiar with soccer in Italy. The Spaniard previously held a similar position with Italian club Roma between 2017 and 2019. Prior to joining the Serie A side, Monchi helped discover stars such as Sergio Ramos, Jose Antonio Reyes, and Jesús Navas while with Sevilla .

McKennie was apparently not the only player on the agenda. Nevertheless, the American is one of several Juventus players to be sold in the coming months.

Thiago Motta’s pending arrival to the club is supposedly set to kickstart a squad overhaul. McKennie isn’t in the new coach’s plans.

McKennie could join Villa to replace current star midfielder

Villa will be looking to make significant additions to their team following their stellar 2023/24 season. The Birmingham-based club ultimately finished fourth in the Premier League standings, qualifying for the Champions League . It is set to be the first time in 40 years that Villa will take part in the top European competition.

Some Premier League fans may still have gloomy opinions about McKennie from his time with Leeds. However, the American showed this season that he can perform well in a top team. Villa’s current midfield generally consists of John McGinn, Douglas Luiz, and Youri Tielemans. Potentially adding McKennie would give manager Unai Emery another solid option in the middle of the pitch.

The USMNT star may arrive in a bid to detract from the possible loss of Luiz. The dynamic Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move away from Villa in recent months. There is no secret that Arsenal admire the midfielder, but Juventus rate him as well.

Robert MacIntyre wins his first PGA Tour title at the RBC Canadian Open

MacIntyre carded a final round of 68 at Hamilton Golf and Country Club to finish 16 under par, a shot ahead of home favourite Ben Griffin.

Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre recovered from a shaky start and held off a host of challengers to win his first PGA Tour title in the RBC Canadian Open.

Griffin had piled on the pressure with birdies on the 15th, 16th and 17th to close within one of his playing partner, but could not find a fourth in a row on the last to potentially force a play-off.

That meant MacIntyre had the luxury of two-putting from 10 feet for the win before embracing his father Dougie, who had been called on to caddie at short notice.

Asked why he was so emotional at the win, MacIntyre gestured to his dad as he told CBS: “Because of this.

“I’m speechless to be honest. This is just everything for me and family, my girlfriend, my team. I can’t believe I’ve done it with him on the bag.

“I’m crying with joy but I’m laughing because I didn’t think it was possible.”

Robert MacIntyre

MacIntyre had seen his four-shot overnight lead wiped out in the space of four holes after he bogeyed the first and home favourite Mackenzie Hughes made a hat-trick of early birdies.

However, MacIntyre responded superbly to birdie the fourth, seventh and eighth to regain control of the £7.4million event, despite having to ask for a drone being used for the television coverage to be moved on several occasions before he finally got his wish.

Another birdie on the 11th was followed by a wild tee shot on the 12th into a water hazard and another bogey on the 13th opened the door for the chasing pack, but the Ryder Cup star crucially birdied the 15th and safely parred the last three holes.

MacIntyre has made no secret of his struggle to adapt to living in the United States this season, but benefited hugely from a three-week spell back in Scotland in April and contended for the Myrtle Beach Classic before finishing eighth in the US PGA Championship.

“I was going down the last there and my dad’s trying to tell me to stay focused and swing smooth because yesterday I got a little bit too fast, but in my head I wasn’t listening to him,” MacIntyre added.

“I wanted to win this for my dad, this is the guy that’s taught me the game of golf and I just can’t believe I done this with him on the bag.”

Dougie, who is head greenkeeper at Glencruitten Golf Club in Oban: said: “It’s unbelievable. I’m a grasscutter not a caddie.

“I got phoned last Saturday night, I’m sitting on the couch at home eight o’clock Saturday night and I’m (thinking) can I leave my job here, I’m busy at work.

“Eight o’clock the next morning I’m on a flight out here and wow.”

Asked if his dad was now a permanent fixture on the bag, MacIntyre added: “No, dad’s on the flight home on Monday and I think me and my girlfriend might go home as well and just have a hell of a party because this is incredible.”
