Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Problems and Fixes

Here I have gathered the most popular Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Problems, issues, game errors and the possible workarounds and instructions on how to fix them

Please note, this article does NOT contain any story spoilers from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey!

This article contains the most popular Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Problems as well as the best known solutions to them. If a fix is not available to an issue listed here, check back later. I will be updating this post frequently in the coming days, weeks, maybe even months. Please, note, some of the fixes and workarounds may not work for you. If you manage to solve a problem by yourself using a different method than the one(s) described here, please, leave a comment so others can try it too.

Now, let’s see…

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey crashes at launch or after a few minutes of gameplay

There could be a number of reasons why your game or whole PC system might be crashing. Some of the most popular reasons are missing DLL files, which you can attempt to fix via this link .

Be sure that you have updated your video card drivers. Both Nvidia and AMD should have updated drivers that are optimized specifically for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. I don’t own an AMD card, so I can only vouch for the Nvidia team – Driver 411.70 is well optimized for the game and improves its FPS (at least on my hardware ). Forum user  orduluaslan  reported that a clean-installation of the latest Nvidia driver and uninstalling the Geforce Experience helped them fix the crashing.

In the first days after the Early Access began there are a number of complaints and most seems to be related to the “old CPU” issue.

Many players reported on the Ubisoft forums that like Origins, Odyssey does not run on CPUs that don’t support AVX. If or when Ubisoft patches the game to support older CPUs, you should give it a try again. As  yaisuah   reported on the forums, CPUs from the following generations may not work with Odyssey at the moment:

  • First generation Intel i3, i5, i7 processor or older (Eg. i7 920, i7 960, etc.)
  • Intel Pentium processors (Eg. G4560, G2030, etc.)
  • AMD Phenom processors (Eg. X6 1090T)

There is a small chance that this might be fixed by Ubisoft, because apparently the same issue was never officially addressed by the developers for Origins last year. You may try this fix from Reddit user  IFrAgMenTIx .

Go to the folder where your assassinscreedorigins startup .exe is located. Right click on it and set properties. -)Run as admin -)Run in compatibility mode windows 8 -)create a shortcut of the .exe on your desktop and later start the game from there Next I uninstalled Rivatuner(you might also be able to just disable it) Open geforce experience and adjust the AC:O settings so that you can run the game in borderless window mode or windowed mode (important) If you want to play the game at a lower res than your actual set screen resolution I suggest that you set your screen to a lower resolution since the game doesn’t scale up(feelsbadman). [I needed to do this since I can’t play the game in 4K without frying my GPU – only 2K is possible]

If there is any official answer or a solution to the “old CPU” issue, I will update this post, so check back later. Meanwhile if your game keeps crashing during gameplay, see if any of your hardware components isn’t overheating (usually GPU or CPU). Lower the graphical settings gradually until the performance stabilizes itself and you can play normally.

UPDATE ON THE AVX ISSUE AND OLDER CPU SUPPORT:

Ubisoft responded to the complains from fans regarding the issues Assassin’s Creed Odyssey AVX issues and lack of older CPU support.

Trouble Downloading or Updating Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

The first thing you should try, when having slow download speed or disconnects, is connect to an ethernet cable if you are not already. If you are, consider trying a different cable, restart your router or even your machine. When you unplug your router, leave it this way for a few minutes before you plug it back in.

Your connection issues might also be a result of a software that you have installed. In some cases disabling the anti-virus or internet security tool might be the answer.

If the issues with downloading are more serious, you may need professional help. Ubisoft has an official guide for you to try when you are experiencing troubles installing and/or updating your game via their PC client Uplay. The key things to do are run Uplay as admin, turn off Windows Firewall, make sure you have enough free space on your hard drive, check if you can run selective startup and more. Here are the steps you can take to fix that:

Running Uplay as admin

  • Navigate to the executable files for Uplay on the hard drive – Default Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher
  •  Right-click on the executable file and select to Run as Administrator

Turning off Windows Firewall: Follow the steps on this  link

How to check the amount of free space on your hard disk: Follow the steps on this  link .

If the issue persists, try downloading the game while in Selective Startup. Remember to also launch UPlay as administrator after restarting your computer.

Selective Startup

1. Hold down your Windows Key and press the R key to bring up the Run prompt 2. In the Run window type msconfig and click OK to open the System Configuration Utility 3. Click on the Startup Tab, then click the Disable All button 4. Click OK and then restart your system when prompted

Throttle download bandwidth

1. Click the menu icon in the upper left hand corner 2. Select Settings 3. Click on the Downloads tab 4. Under the Bandwidth Usage Limit move the slide bar to 2MB/s or lower. 5. Try downloading the game again.

Deleting your cache may also help you get to download the game or an update for it.

Error trying to download AC: Odyssey Language pack

If you are having troubles downloading the French (or any other) language pack for the game from the Microsoft store for the Xbox One version, you may want to know that this is a known issue. This has been reported on the Ubisoft forums and should be updated very soon.

User DerMimey added in the comments here below this article that apparently there is a similar issue with the German language pack. Ubisoft should take care of this hopefully soon.

AC: Odyssey stuttering effect and glitches on PlayStation 4

If the game stutters or glitches while you play as in the movements of the characters are not fluid, but look weird and irregular, there’s one thing the Ubisoft support suggest you try: rebuild your PS4 database. If you turn off the console, then turn it back on by holding the power button on the console until you hear two beeps, it will open in the safe mode menu and you can select rebuild database there.

If you are on Windows 10 with the Creators update (or newer one), you can see if this method, suggested by reddit user  u/marts_sum  will work for you:

  • Download EmptyStandbyList and put it somewhere where you won’t move it https://wj32.org/wp/software/empty-standby-list/
  • Right click > Properties and select Run as Admin under compatibility.
  • Open Task Scheduler > Create Task on the far right
  • General Tab (give it a name). Under security options > Change user or group > Advanced > Find Now > go down and choose SYSTEM (important to make it run silently in the background). Tick ‘Run with highest privileges’ and ‘Hidden’ at the bottom. Pictures here https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6568736/how-do-i-set-a-windows-scheduled-task-to-run-in-the-background
  • Triggers tab > New > On a schedule > One Time. Tick repeat task every 5 minutes (possibly excessive but it causes no issues). Also choose ‘for the duration of: indefinitely’
  • Actions tab > Start A program > Point to the EmptyStandbyList.exe file.
  • Done! Standby memory is automatically cleared every 5mins.

Source ► Reddit  and Steam .

Stuttering may be caused also by outdated video card drivers or generally old/outdated hardware components. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is quite hungry for CPU power. I suggest you check the temperatures of your CPU and GPU and make sure they are not overheating.

How to fix the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Freezing Problem

If your game freezes up while you play and nothing can be done, first see if you can force-close the game (ALT+F4 on PC, for example). If this is impossible, your whole PC or console may be frozen. In this case you will have to hard-reboot it.

If the problem is not fixed and you play on PC with an older CPU, this could be the reason for your performance issues. The game is very heavy on the CPU in general. Check the “ Assassin’s Creed Odyssey crashes at launch or after a few minutes of gameplay ” paragraph to learn why some older generations CPUs have trouble running the game.

How to fix possible Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Performance Issues

The game is not optimized perfectly right at launch. Make sure your hardware is compatible. The PC System requirements are quite steep and older CPUs (as discussed previously in this post).

A common answer to solving poor performance is updating your video card drivers. My machine runs with an Nvidia GPU, but I am certain the AMD team has a new and optimized drivers for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The Green team’s driver is 411.70 and my Benchmark showed about 15% increase in performance compared to my test before I updated it.

There are certain areas that seem to be poorly optimized and cause severe FPS drops in the first days. Ubisoft developers are aware of that issue and are working on a fix. Check the Patch Notes section here on VULKK.com to learn when a new update is released and what improvements it brings.

If you play on a console and are experiencing performance drops, simply restart your game and (if needed) your console too. If the problem persists, contact Ubisoft Customer Service or write them a ticket.

In general every update to the game introduces tweaks and performance improvements.

How to fix your Glowing Character in tall grass in AC: Odyssey

In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey when you crouch down to hide among the grass, preparing to assassinate your next target, you might have noticed that your character has this kind of annoying glowing/flashing effect. Turns out this can be easily switched off. Reddit user  Viliar  provided a quick solution: Turning off the Enemy Proximity setting in the HUD tab of the Settings menu, will allow you to enjoy a more natural looking crouching Alexios or Kassandra.

Purchased AC: Odyssey, but In-Game Items and Missions are missing

There have been multiple cases reported by players where the In-Game items or even missions part of the various game packages and editions have not been properly delivered. The first thing you need to do is make sure the items are listed as “owned” in the Ubisoft Store. if they are, then you should receive the items in your inventory when you log in to the game. If the items are not listed as owned, then you better write to Customer Support and ask them to check.

Some of the in-game items require higher levels to use, such as the Kronos and Herald of Dusk gear sets , that are part of the Deluxe edition – in this case you need to be level 5 to put them on, but they should still be visible in your inventory from the very beginning.

Some missions that are part of the various game editions are also suitable for higher level players and you will only be able to see and do them when you meet the requirements.

Unable to Fast Travel in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

If you find yourself unable to use the Fast Travel feature in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the first thing you have to check is your current location. In most cases this is not about a bug that you are experiencing, but simply because you are standing in an area from which the game’s mechanics do not allow you to fast travel. A good example for that are soldier camps.

If this is not your case and you are constantly having trouble with fast travel, then you should write a ticket to Ubisoft’s Customer Service.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Fast Travel Glitch during A Night to Remember mission

There is a game-breaking bug where fast travel glitches and you are unable to get out or to a place. Reddit user  u/bromx28  discovered that this can happen in two locations. The first is during “A Night To Remember” on Mykanos. It seems that the glitch happens right after you talk to Barnabas. A possible workaround is to manually go to the location of the next objective – this will fix the quest’s objectives and resume normal functioning.

To find the next two objectives during the bugged state, either go to center of the southern area of the isle of Mykanos and look for a figure standing on a small island.  The second objective is directly north-east of this location, it is a bit harder to describe than the first location, but one location should be all you need to get your game working again.

This may not completely fix the quest “A Night to Remember” as there is another bugged objective after this, but your fast travel system should be back in place. So to complete this quest we’ll just have to wait till Ubisoft patches it.

The second instance of this glitch happens at a much later stage in the game, at a spoiler-y surprise location. I do not know how to fix the second instance of the glitch, but a similar solution might work (until the devs can fix it).

Credit for this workaround goes to  u/bromx28 . Source ► Reddit

Stuck on a Quest and cannot continue?

With each major update Ubisoft announces a ton of bug fixes. Among them often are corrections of issues with various quests and locations. If you have been unable to get past a certain objective, an NPC is missing form its expected location or something else has happened, that wasn’t supposed to – you have encountered a bug.

Here is the most recent list of quest-related bugs that have been fixed with Update 1.1.1:

  • Addressed an issue in Gluten Free where Lagos’s son could pop up in dialogues when released before triggering the cut-scene.
  • Addressed an issue in A Mother’s Prayer that prevented the player from completing the quest.
  • Addressed an issue in To Find a Girl where Thugs would chicken out of combat if their leader is knocked out in front of them.
  • Addressed an issue in Barnabas Abroad that could prevent the quest from being completed.
  • Addressed an issue in The Final Push that could cause the quest’s objective to disappear.
  • Addressed an issue in Pirate Hospitality that prevented the quest objective to update.
  • Addressed an issue in Unified Front where Euneas would sail away from the naval battle instead of helping the player.
  • Addressed various issues in the Divine Intervention questline that could prevent the quest from being completed.
  • Addressed an issue in Follow That Boat where Kleio could spawn underwater if the player cleaves the ship during the follow Erina objective.
  • Addressed an issue in Breaking Bread where the recommended Quest level differs from the actual level of enemy NPCs in the Fort of Arkas.
  • Addressed an issue in A Bloody Feast where the player could maintain a full bounty bar under certain circumstances.
  • Removed a dramatic black fade from a cut-scene in Athlete.

VULKK.com has extensive coverage of every single update post-launch. Check the Patch Notes list of articles. In every one of them there are a number of issues corrected and bugs fixed. Yours might be among them!

If you have another problem or have found an alternative solution to one of the issues mentioned here, please, leave a comment to help the other readers, who are also looking for a workaround or a fix to something that isn’t functioning with the game properly. Thanks!

How to fast travel in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

If you don't want to walk or ride a horse, here's how to fast travel in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Bill Lavoy

About a year ago I made the decision to stop fast traveling in open-world games. I found that if I took the time to walk, I became more immersed in the world and got more out of the experience. However, after walking across the map for the hundredth time, everybody breaks and decides to take a shortcut. While the world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is full of things to discover, I wouldn’t blame you for wanting to skip the trip and arrive at your destination immediately. Here’s how to fast travel in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

How to Fast Travel in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

assassin's creed odyssey fast travel not working

Fast travel requires that you first unlock synchronization points around the map. These are almost always high up and require you to do some climbing. They are also marked on the map as eagles, allowing you to set a way point and travel directly to them. As you find these synchronization points, climb and unlock them, then you can use that point at any time in the future to fast travel. If the eagle icon on the map is white, the fast travel point hasn’t been unlocked. Once you’ve completed the synchronization, however, the icon will be gold and fast travel will be available.

Players can also fast travel to their ship, which will become available a few hours into the game and after some main story progression. Your ship will be an important part of the game and something of a base once you start exploring the world, making this fast travel point the most valuable by a mile. Just be sure to dock your ship properly when not using it in order to activate it as a fast travel point.

Now that you know how to fast travel, be sure to browse and bookmark our Assassin’s Creed Odyssey walkthrough and guide . You’ll find tips and tutorials to help you become the deadliest assassin the world has ever seen.

On this page:

How to Fast Travel in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

How big is the odyssey map.

Whenever you see a fast travel point, which is denoted by a white eagle on the map, you’ll want to travel to it immediately. Climb the point once you’ve reached it, and press Y/Triangle to ‘Synchronize’, allowing you to fast travel back to this point in future. Exploring is generally pretty rewarding in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, as you can find tons of side quests with interesting characters (some of which you can even romance).

When you first start out the grand adventure of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, you’ll find yourself on the island of Kephallonia. It’s a relatively small location, as pictured just below, but after you’ve dealt with the Cyclops and left Markos and Phiobe behind, the entire world opens up for you to explore through your ship.

Just below, you can see screenshots of the huge world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. The world map is so big that we couldn’t even get it on a single screenshot. You’ll note below that while some areas are colored in, other areas of the map are grey. The colored regions are the places that we’ve been to and explored, while the grey areas are uncharted territory.

How to Unlock Fast Travelling in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Unlock Fast Travel Point in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s  sprawling world which can often feel overwhelming to navigate. At times you may feel like things are far away, and fast travel doesn’t seem available. While this is true for some things, there is a way to fast travel to locations after you’ve visited them for the first time. To help you, I’m going to show you how to unlock fast travelling in  Assassin’s Creed  Odyssey .

Available Fast Travel Point – The Adrestia (Your Ship)

Fast Travel to The Adrestia in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Once you have The Adrestia unlocked, you can use it as a mobile fast travel point.

One point you can always fast travel to is your ship The Adrestia. This ship is unlocked after you complete the story mission The Big Break. Once you have The Adrestia unlocked, you are able to fast travel back to it by hovering over the golden ship icon on the map. Having the ability to always fast travel back to The Adrestia is nice as it makes stopping to explore something easier then if you had to make your way back to the ship every time.

Unlocking Fast Travel Points Through Synchronization

Synchronize Location Assassin's Creed Odyssey

While having a mobile Fast Travel point in The Adrestia is nice, sometimes you need to fast travel to a city (like to see Oikos for example). However, you may have noticed when you hover over a city/area of interest, the ability to fast travel to it is greyed out. To unlock fast travel to these points you need to complete what are called Synchronization Locations. These points appear on your map as grey birds. Once at a Synchronize Location you are able to send up Ikaro to scout the area. Once this is done, you will unlock this point as a Fast Travel point. You will know you’ve unlocked the Fast Travel point as the grey bird will turn green on your map.

Note: Completing Synchronize Locations is a good way to level up different attributes of Ikaro.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: How to Fast Travel

Fast travel is an absolute necessity in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey after a while, thanks to the sheer scale of its enormous rendition of Ancient Greece. Here’s how to fast travel in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey .

Ubisoft ‘s series offers one of the largest maps seen in the franchise. With tons of new content to explore, enemies to fight, and loot to find, this game will have you combing over every part of the map with a fine tooth comb. Odyssey takes your journey to the mystical lands of Ancient Greece. Of course, you’ll want to be able to move quickly around Greece, so you’ll need to know how to get around quickly.

You can’t just go fast traveling around the map anywhere you want in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. You’ll first need to find and unlock fast travel points .

Synchronization

As you’re exploring the world, you might notice a little eagle-shaped icon appear on your HUD. That’s indicating that a fast travel point is nearby. These tend to be in high-up places. Y’know, because you’re surveying the landscape and chillin’ with your eagle buddies.

If you’re struggling to find fast travel points to unlock, try opening up your map by pressing the touchpad on PS4, or the View button on Xbox One. You’ll now be able to scan around your nearby area a lot faster and pull out the closest fast travel point for you to unlock.

But there will definitely be an eagle icon in most towns within the game. At least one, but sometimes two or more. We’ve included an image of an unlocked fast travel point in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey below.

I recommend immediately going to the fast travel point in any new place you get to, if you’re impatient. A lot of the time, a quest will lead you pretty far and it’ll be a pain to get back.

Once you’ve climbed to the top of an eagle location you will need to synchronize with it just like in previous installments. To do this, you simply need to press Y on Xbox One, or Triangle on PS4. You’ll then get the panoramic camera pan as your eagle buddy flies around you.

When you’ve synchronized with the location you will have unlocked the ability to fast travel to it. Now you’re ready to actually fast travel in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Fast Travel Time

Now that you actually know how to synchronize, you’re finally able to fast travel in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. To do so, you’re going to want to go back to your map again by pressing the View button on Xbox One or touchpad on PS4. Look out for those same eagle icons we used to track down the point in the first place.

Any of these points you’ve synchronized with will now be green on your map. Simply move your cursor over the one you want to travel to and press X on Xbox One or Square on PS4, and you’ll be taken right there.

This is also true for your ship. You can do this anytime you’re not in combat, or near a dangerous foe. This will make things significantly easier when traversing the enormous map for a second or even third time while trying to complete side quests, collectibles, or finding hidden areas, such as underwater locations .

How to unlock fast travel in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Ancient Greece is beautiful, but sometimes you don't have time to enjoy the scenery, so here's how to unlock fast travel in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

How to pass time by waiting in Assassin's Creed Odyssey

The power of night and day is at your fingertips if you learn how to pass time by waiting in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Some folks prefer to take the languid route in games, slowly ambling their way across game worlds in no hurry to reach a destination. For those of us with a bit more impetus in life, the ability to fast travel is a godsend. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey offers a massive selection of islands to sail between or ride across, meaning at times you might prefer the option to jump directly to your destination of choice. In this article we'll teach you how to Fast Travel in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

How to Fast Travel in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

You won't be able to fast travel from the start of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. In order to unlock the feature, you first need to unlock a number of synchronization points around the map. These tend to be at the top of peaks, and often you'll need to climb to reach them. If you haven't found any yet, they're marked on your map by an eagle symbol, meaning you can set a waypoint to help you reach them faster. Any that appear white on the map have yet to be unlocked, so head towards them. Whenever you reach one, climb to the top and you'll be given the option to unlock it via synchronization, turning the map icon gold. Once you've done this once, you can use it in future to fast travel between other points you've unlocked.

It's also possible to fast travel to your ship, an ability that you'll unlock after just a few hours into the game's main story. Given your ship largely acts as your base of operations, it's easily the most useful fast travel point, but it's still worth unlocking the others when you get the chance. Just remember than your ship only acts as a fast travel point when docked at a port, so make sure you're not diving off recklessly unless you plan to return shortly!

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: How to Fast Travel

Image of AOTF Staff

The map in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is massive.  We don’t blame you if you would rather fast travel across the world than taking a boat, horse, or by going on foot.  There are only a couple of different ways to fast travel in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and one of them is going to require that you do a little exploration of the game.

The best way to fast travel to all of the different islands in the game is by finding all the Synchronization Points.  These points function similarly to previous Assassin’s Creed games in that they feature scenic views of the surrounding area and will highlight points of interest for you to explore.  However, they also function as fast travel spots once you’ve synchronized them.

On the map, sync points will have an Eagle Icon.  Once synchronized this eagle will turn from white to green and give you the option to fast travel.  Note that you can only fast travel when you are not in combat.  Simply highlight the icon and then press the X Button (Xbox) or Square Button (PlayStation) to fast travel.

Alternatively, you can fast travel to your boat wherever it is docked by highlighting The Adrestia.  This is denoted by a golden ship icon which when hovered over will allow you to press X or Square to fast travel to where you docked it last.
