Aerosmith announce rescheduled Peace Out tour

With Steven Tyler presumably now healed from his 2023 vocal injury, Aerosmith have announced details of their rescheduled Peace Out run, taking place from September through to next February.

Aerosmith announce rescheduled Peace Out tour

Aerosmith have just announced their fully rescheduled farewell tour.

The band’s Peace Out run was put on pause last year after Steven Tyler suffered a vocal injury in which he “fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care”, as well as more generally damaging his vocal cords. But after many months, he’s presumably now on the mend, and ready to resume Aerosmith duties this coming September.

And, as well as unveiling their completely rescheduled North American tour (still with original support The Black Crowes), Aerosmith have also added a couple of new dates, including a one-night-only show with Teddy Swims to kick off the whole thing.

A press release detailing the tour promises that, ‘Every night will pay homage to the five decades of Aerosmith’s groundbreaking hits as they celebrate over 50 years as America’s greatest rock band. In addition, THX will bring their THX Certified Live! high-fidelity experience on the road, calibrating each arena with leading-edge technology so fans don’t miss a beat of Aerosmith’s classic rock tunes in quality audio.’

Aerosmith have announced one final tour marking more than five decades together, the band announced today. The group, comprising Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer and Brad Whitford, are known for hits including Dream On, Walk This Way and I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing. On Monday they released a star-studded video featuring celebrity friends, including Eminem, Dolly Parton and Sir Ringo Starr, reacting to the “earth-shattering news” the band are calling time. The group announced a string of North American dates for their Peace Out tour starting on September 2 in Philadelphia.

The 40-date run of shows, including a stop in the band’s hometown of Boston on New Year’s Eve, will end on January 26 2024 in Montreal. No European dates have been announced so far.

In a joint statement, the band said: “It’s not goodbye it’s PEACE OUT! Get ready and walk this way, you’re going to get the best show of our lives.” Perry, Aerosmith co-founder and lead guitarist said “I think it’s about time” when asked about the band's decision to call it a day. The 72-year-old said he believes it is time to say goodbye, especially as all the bandmates are over the age of 70, with frontman Tyler the oldest, aged 75. “It’s kind of a chance to celebrate the 50 years we’ve been out here. You never know how much longer everybody’s going to be healthy to do this,” Perry said. “It’s been a while since we’ve actually done a real tour. We did that run in Vegas, which was great. It was fun, but (we’re) kind of anxious to get back on the road.”

In a statement Tyler said: “We’re opening up Pandora’s Box one last time to present our fans with the Peace Out tour.

"Be there or beware as we bring all the toys out of the attic. Get ready.” The band said drummer Kramer will not take part in the upcoming tour as he continues to focus his attention on his family and health, with John Douglas continuing to take his place. Aerosmith, formed in Boston in 1970, and are one of the most popular acts of all time, with 150 million records sold around the world. In 2001, they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and performed the Super Bowl halftime show, and have collected four Grammys during their time together.

Aerosmith

Aerosmith have announced that their next tour will be their last after more than 50 years in the music business.

The legendary American rock band, known for their big hits Dream On, Walk This Way, and I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing , were formed back in 1970.

On Monday, they released a star-studded video featuring Eminem , Dolly Parton , and Sir Ringo Starr reacting to the news that the band were calling time.

The group announced a string of US dates for their Peace Out tour starting on September 2 in Philadelphia, PA, which will feature their catalogue of rock classics.

The 40-date run of shows, which includes a stop in the band’s hometown of Boston on New Year’s Eve, will end in January in Montreal, Canada.

No European dates have so far been announced for the tour yet, which looks like the final set of shows for the band who entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

In a joint statement, the band said: ‘It’s not goodbye, it’s peace out! Get ready and walk this way, you’re going to get the best show of our lives.’

Joe Perry, Aerosmith co-founder and lead guitarist, told the Associated Press it was ‘the right time’ for the rock group to call it a day.

Perry, 72, added that each of the band’s members are now over 70, with the oldest being lead singer Steven Tyler, who turned 75 in March.

‘It’s kind of a chance to celebrate the 50 years we’ve been out here. You never know how much longer everybody’s going to be healthy to do this,’ Perry said.

He continued: ‘It’s been a while since we’ve actually done a real tour. We did that run in Vegas, which was great, but we’re kind of anxious to get back on the road.’

In his own statement, Tyler said: ‘We’re opening up Pandora’s Box one last time… Be there or beware as we bring all the toys out of the attic. Get ready.’

Drummer Joey Kramer will not take part on the tour as he continues to focus his attention on his family and health, with replacement John Douglas stepping in.

Aerosmith Announce Final Tour

Aerosmith

Aerosmith have announced what they are calling their final tour: The Peace Out Tour is set to run from September 2023 to January 2024. The band will be joined by the Black Crowes for the farewell tour. Find Aerosmith’s tour dates below.

Singer Steven Tyler , bassist Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer, and guitarists Joe Perry and Ray Tabano formed Aerosmith in 1970. Tabano left the group and was replaced by Brad Whitford before Aerosmith released their self-titled debut in 1973. The band has gone on to release 14 more studio albums, the most recent of which, Music From Another Dimension! , came out in November 2012.

Joey Kramer will not be performing on Aerosmith’s Peace Out Tour, just as he did not take part in the 2022 dates of the group’s Las Vegas residency . Instead, John Douglas will drum in Kramer’s place. In a statement, Aerosmith explained: “While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health. Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.”

Steven Tyler was recently sued by a woman who claims that the musician sexually assaulted and sexually battered her when she was a minor in the 1970s. Tyler has denied the allegations.

Recent tour reviews

I have been an Aerosmith fan since I was 2 years old, back in 1974, and I used to try to swerve my hips back 'n' forth à la Steven Tyler.

I have only had the chance to see them 3 times in my life, and it seems that every time they come in concert life whisks me away some place else!

So now I'm in Cyprus for a long time coming... and nearly nobody ever comes out to this little (amazing) island at the end of the Mediterranean sea. It's unfortunate as there are some true fans out here, and I'm sure the band would love to make a pitstop in this paradisal place.

@Aerosmith - PLEASE COME!!! It really is worth it here.

I have seen Aerosmith over 30 times!!! I am from Fl., in 2015 they didn't come to the east coast. So I went to the 2nd to last concert of "The Blue Army Tour" in Hildago,Tx.

It was the best concert by them that I have seen yet.

3rd row 3rd seat, Steven Tyler seemed and acted like he was a 25-year-old .

After 30 times of seeing them I felt like it was my 1st. He threw his harmonica to me and I went nuts.

I have to say that it was the highlight of my life. Next to having my son it was the best day of my life.

I can hardly wait until they come again.......it won't be soon enough.

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith performs live on stage at the Wells Fargo Center on September 02, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Aerosmith has announced the rescheduled dates for the “Peace Out” farewell tour, which was abruptly postponed last September because of singer Steven Tyler ‘s ongoing vocal cord and larynx problems.

The singer’s doctor said last year that Tyler, “in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, fractured his larynx, which requires ongoing care. He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential.”

The Peace Out tour was to celebrate 50 years of the band’s hits.

Aerosmith Canceled Their Tour — So What Happens to the Money at Stake? An Insurance Expert Breaks It Down

Aerosmith announced the decision to retire in an Aug. 2 Instagram post

  • Aerosmith announced they retired from touring and canceled the remainder of dates on their farewell tour
  • Paul Bassman, an insurance expert, explains what happens to all the money at stake
  • Insurance will typically cover 80% of the guaranteed fee

On Aug. 2, Aerosmith made a heartbreaking decision to retire from touring nearly one year after Steven Tyler fractured his larynx   during a September 2023 show .

The band, which had only made it to their third stop and postponed their farewell tour several times since, announced the news in a lengthy statement on Instagram .

"As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible," the statement read, in part.

When a tour, especially of this caliber, is canceled, there's more logistics to be dealt with than an automatic ticket refund for fans. Oftentimes, artists and their teams will purchase cancellation policies ahead of their tours to protect the artist from financial burden should it be canceled.

Paul Bassman, managing director at Higginbotham Insurance, answered all of PEOPLE's burning questions and broke down what goes down under these circumstances.

Kevin Mazur/Getty

Since Aerosmith's tour was canceled for medical reasons, is that covered by insurance?

Generally speaking, when an artist gets tour cancellation insurance, there will be exclusions for pre-existing conditions on that policy. So if for example, the artist has a heart condition that's been diagnosed, there'll be exclusion for any heart problems, unless of course the artist is being treated by a doctor and the doctor assures that the medication that that artist is being provided or the treatment that the artist is undergoing will alleviate that condition. Since Steven Tyler canceled prior tours due to throat conditions, this tour cancellation is unlikely to be covered by insurance. If however he had a long term disability policy prior to the initial tour canceling, he could have coverage there.

How detailed are these policies when it comes to medical conditions?

It would outline clearly which conditions are excluded. The artists typically require a medical exam prior, especially the big tours. Sometimes the smaller ones, don't require medicals because it's too unwieldy to require that. But once the artists get large enough, they'll have to go to a doctor, the doctor has to fill out a medical questionnaire, they have to disclose any sort of medications they're taking, what sort of pre-existing conditions they have. Then the underwriters for the tour take that into consideration and go, we're going to not cover this, or we're going to not cover that, or we'll decide to cover that because he's taking XYZ medication.

Who is responsible for refunding the tickets?

Live Nation would have likely paid in advance to Aerosmith, and the terms and conditions of that advance would be you have to fulfill your obligations for the tour in order to keep that money. So the money may have to be clawed back from Aerosmith, but initially Live Nation and Ticketmaster would be the entities refunding the money to the patrons.

Is Aerosmith losing money because of this decision?

Aerosmith would lose the money that they were going to get in guarantees, but they wouldn't get paid because they didn't fulfill their obligations under the tour agreement. It's a possibility that maybe Aerosmith or Steven Tyler took out a disability policy that would cover catastrophic illness or injury. Sometimes tour cancellation insurance can be quite expensive, so what the artists can do is they'll get a disability policy that says if your injury or illness caused you to not be able to do your job or do what you do for six months or sometimes a year...  then the policy will pay out the face value.

The barrier for disability policy payoff is pretty much career ending or just shy of. You have to be physically unable to tour for six months or a year because of that illness or injury, and this injury to Steven Tyler would qualify for that... but I would say challenging to procure the insurance and perhaps very expensive.

[Aerosmith] will still be out expenses for their crew, and who knows what kind of contracts they sign with their bus companies and their trucking companies, whether they have to pay the whole thing or there's a, "Hey, we canceled the tour, we'll pay you 50%." Every contract has different provisions on what happens if. They would still get paid what they made, for the shows they performed.

How does each venue booked handle it after a tour is canceled?

Sometimes the venues will have a minimum guarantee, they call it a House Nut, that is, 'OK, you have to pay this amount in order to secure the venue and that's non-refundable.' So the venues may have some safety in that regard. Live Nation, sometimes have their own cancellation policy for their expenses or the potential expenses. That's also possible. The venue can always rebook somebody else. If it's very close to the date, they may have a clause in their contract saying that we're going to keep the deposit that you put on for the venue.

How much of the tour is covered by insurance?

The amount covered by a tour cancellation policy is based on a percentage of guarantees that the promoter is contractually obligated to pay the artist. I typically see this figure at 80%, however it can be as high as 85% of the guarantees depending on the artist and deal. The reason you can’t insure 100% of guarantees is the insurers know that in the event of a tour canceling, there will be some level of cost savings by striking expenses such as crew, transportation, rented equipment and so forth. Ideally the artist wants this figure to be on an agreed value basis (known at Lloyds of London as “to pay”) which will automatically pay the artist if the show cancels for a covered cause of loss.

Can you provide an example?

Aerosmith for an example, let's say for round numbers, the guarantee from Live Nation is one million a show, over 20 shows, that's a $20 million contract that they have with Live Nation and they can assure 80% of it. If they cancel for a covered reason, then they get a check based on the number of shows lost. It's a very simple process of getting paid on cancellation insurance because once it's determined that it's a covered cause of loss, then the amount is already agreed prior.

Does the artist ever not get insurance?

It happens all the time. People think they're invincible. People think, "Oh, we'll never cancel. The show must go on. We'll get a new guitar player." Whatever it may be. Nine times out of 10, you're going to come out ahead. Most of the time it's just that one time you don't, it's painful.

Aerosmith has postponed the remaining US dates on their farewell tour again after Steven Tyler’s vocal injury transpired to be “more serious than initially thought”

Lead singer Tyler, 75, was initially said to have suffered “bleeding” after performing onstage with damaged vocal cords.

“His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care,” Aerosmith said in a statement. “He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential.”

“I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world,” Tyler said in a statement. “I promise we will be back as soon as we can!”

The gigs in question, which had been set to take place this month, were initially rescheduled for next January and February. They will now take place “sometime in 2024”, according to the band.

In their statement, Aerosmith also stipulated that ticketholders would be able to receive refunds if unable to attend the new dates.

“All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled dates, and refunds will be available for those unable to attend once those dates are announced,” they confirmed. “Fans with questions regarding refunds should reach out to their point of purchase.”

Before the postponement was announced, Aerosmith had played just three dates of their current tour, titled Peace Out: The Farewell Tour.

Original bandmembers Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, and Brad Whitford had performed alongside Tyler for the tour, as well as drummer John Douglas, replacing Aerosmith’s absent longtime drummer Joey Kramer.

The band’s farewell tour was announced last year , with a total of 40 gigs initially planned between September and January.

“It’s the final farewell tour, but I have a feeling it will go on for a while,” Perry said at the time.

“But I don’t know how many times we’ll be coming back to the same cities. It could very possibly be the last time.”
