1989 tour enchanted

BOSSIER CITY, La. — Toward the end of Taylor Swift ’s concert at the CenturyLink Center here on Wednesday night, she strapped on an electric guitar for the first time of the night and began playing some tart riffs while singing hungry little fillips. She was setting the stage for “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” the 2012 song that became her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped turn her inexorably away from country and toward pop megastardom.

In the song, she’s lashing out at a dunderheaded ex: “You would hide away and find your peace of mind/ With some indie record that’s much cooler than mine.”

On the album, she delivers that self-referential line with an eye roll, but when she sang it here, she turned it into a defiant shout. Suddenly, the song wasn’t about fretting over someone’s opinion; it was about knowing you’ve been the cool one all along, and finally owning it.

Whatever underdog anxieties Ms. Swift might have had earlier in her career are mostly gone. With the release in the fall of “ 1989 ” (Big Machine), her fifth album, Ms. Swift neatly ascended to the top of the pop hierarchy, largely by bypassing and ignoring most of her peers. She used the same blend of guilelessness and savvy that made her a radical figure in country music, and applied it to 1980s-influenced sounds that made her one of the most conservative figures in pop.

So she’s still a kind of underdog, but a big dog, too. The “1989” album has gone platinum four times over, and this show was the first stand-alone date of the American leg of her “1989” world tour, which will mainly play stadiums. (This arena was far smaller, holding about 13,000 people.)

The album “1989” is what got her here, and “1989” is what she largely stuck to — newly grown-up songs about letdown, regret and letting go. “Out of the Woods” was booming and “Shake It Off” was cheeky and breezy. Even songs that felt like outliers on “1989” were here both integral and enrapturing, like “Clean,” which lost its spaciness; and “I Know Places,” notionally about hiding from prying eyes in a new relationship, which sounded like an action-movie soundtrack. For that song, her dancers wore drapey, futuristic jackets and shimmering full head masks similar to the ones Kanye West wore on his “Yeezus” tour — spies from the future sent to swarm Ms. Swift, who dodged them easily.

She largely didn’t meddle with the songs from “1989,” but when it came to older material, she bent the music in unexpected ways. She performed “Love Story” in the style of “1989.” On the catty, ecstatic “I Knew You Were Trouble,” she spent part of the song singing in a dusky, Lorde-like tone. And for “Enchanted,” one of her most starry-eyed and least convincing songs, she sat at a Thunderdome-esque piano and sang in a knowing manner, yanking the big notes hard and giving the song new depth.

Ms. Swift has always been comfortable onstage, but as she gets older (she’s 25), she is more willing to make herself awkward when it serves the moment. During “Blank Space,” she acted out that song’s angst, contorting her body and face and, at one point, wielding a golf club with casual menace.

Though her lyrics have gradually begun to acknowledge the sensual, she remains effectively chaste onstage, even when flanked by shirtless dancers on “I Knew You Were Trouble.” But her between-song chatter, always inspirational, now carries the weight of experience. “You are not damaged goods just because you’ve made mistakes,” she said. “You are not someone else’s opinion of you.”

This pep talk was for herself and for the crowd, which consisted mostly of girls, who might have been seeing Ms. Swift for the first time, and young women, who might have been seeing Ms. Swift since they were girls. At various intervals, Ms. Swift disappeared offstage and the huge screen showed clips of some of her well-known friends — Selena Gomez, Karlie Kloss, Lena Dunham, the sisters of the band Haim, and more — singing her praises. It was a public service announcement for the healing powers of female friendship.

Ms. Swift has been actively cultivating these friendships as part of her retreat from the tabloids in recent years. Rather than be known as a serial dater, she’d prefer to be thought of as a serial befriender. Even in “Bad Blood,” a song from “1989” about an intense rivalry with another female performer (most likely Katy Perry), Ms. Swift has found a way to turn it positive. The video is a feminist superhero fantasy, with oodles of famous guests — proof of the power and depth of Ms. Swift’s Rolodex and her desire to form alliances more than cast aspersions.

In an interview in the June issue of Elle magazine, Ms. Swift briefly alluded to the pop landscape she’s arrived at: “I don’t really have much of a queen complex,” she said. “There’s this feeling in music right now where you have to just stand on this castle turret and not come down and talk to anyone and not be approachable and not be excitable, and you should be sexy and edgy and all these things.”

No names were named — Beyoncé and Rihanna come to mind, though — but the comment highlights just how little Ms. Swift has in common with her new peers: almost as little as she had in common with her old peers. “I stalk you on a daily basis,” she told the crowd; it’s hard to imagine any other multiplatinum star doing that, much less admitting it.

Notably, there wasn’t even a hint of country here, unless you count the very young fans who still wore sundresses and cowboy boots, as Ms. Swift did a decade ago. She played acoustic guitar briefly, on “Wonderland,” a lesser-known song that wasn’t quite ready to be so exposed, but otherwise she’d fully decorated this new home, covering up all the traces of the old. (There were also some opening-night sound issues.)

If she can remake herself so thoroughly in just a couple of years, what changes are yet to come? Will she collaborate with Mr. West, her former adversary, as he has said he’d like to do? Will she go full Joni Mitchell? Could she become a romantic-comedy staple, a millennial Meg Ryan? Or will she stick with her current path, letting the arbiters of cool look at her with a side eye while she trounces them all?

Taylor Swift will perform at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., on July 10 and 11; taylorswift.com/events.

Taylor Swift review – polished perfection remains accessible as 1989 tour winds down

Taylor Swift, ANZ Stadium, Sydney You can call it calculating or you can see it as Swift’s commitment to putting on a spectacular show. Or you can just surrender to the emotions

After more than six months of touring, Taylor Swift knows exactly what she’s doing, to quote from New Romantics, the final track of her indomitable album 1989 and the second of her live setlist.

On the first of her seven shows in Australia, the final leg of her world tour, there’s no pose held that isn’t obscenely flattering, no introduction that doesn’t seem scripted.

You could hold that up as evidence of her being “calculating”, the word often applied to her intense involvement in her public brand and career, or you could accept it as par for the course of being the biggest pop star in the world today: a visible, worked-for commitment to putting on a spectacular show that she upholds from the opener Welcome to New York to the crowd-pleasing closer Shake It Off.

Take the wristbands – given out on entry at ANZ Stadium – programmed to light up in time with her songs. It’s a sure-fire way to get tens of thousands of hands in the air, but it’s also a present from Swift to her fans, transforming the charmless, concrete dead zone into an infinite star-scape.

On the Mrs Carter tour of 2013 , when Beyoncé ruled the world, the sense was that she was the gift. Swift isn’t just accessible to fans; she works at a relationship with them, as you would an old friend you risk taking for granted. She thanks us for choosing her show over any other event Sydney has to offer: “I know there’s a lot of other places you could be”, as though any of the 76,000 people at her show had given serious consideration to the Supercross open or the short-course swimming championships on at the stadium complex the same night.

There are moments this “your friend, Taylor Swift” act wears a bit thin, like the coy disclosure “I put out an album called 1989” when we’d already heard at least three songs from it.

Taylor Swift

The video interviews of her famous friends extolling her virtues as a home baker seem particularly self-serving, a bid to shoehorn Lena Dunham and the Haim sisters into a set in which her “squad” risked going unmentioned. Even some of her most enthusiastic fans sit down as soon as Selena Gomez pops up on screen to chew the cud about what true love might be. (Disappointingly, she does not introduce a “special guest” tonight, despite much speculation as to who it might be.)

But the cynicism I feel at the start of her speech introducing Clean – about overcoming insecurities and negative self-talk and coming to terms with your mistakes – dissipates when I see the young girls hanging off her every word. There aren’t many celebrities with her profile and influence telling preteen girls that they are not somebody else’s opinion of them, that they are “not going nowhere just because you haven’t got to where you want to be yet”.

Pop stars don’t have to be good role models, but Swift takes her responsibilities seriously; there must be parents who are grateful to her for it. This earnestness extends to the rest of her performance as she mimes taking a Polaroid picture, winks at every click in Blank Space and flashes her eyes malevolently as she sings “I can make all the tables turn”.

She approaches her songs as her fans might lip-synch them alone in their bedrooms or (the older ones – and there are plenty of them here tonight, even without children as a cover) drunk at karaoke, all exaggerated gestures and literal interpretations.

There’s no doubt that Swift is a workhorse: the dance steps don’t come easy, and she leaves the flashy legwork to her all-male dancers. She seems much more at ease with her guitar for This Love and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, and at a piano for the stripped-back take on Enchanted and Wildest Dreams.

The singles from 1989 receive the most rapturous reception from the crowd, not because they’re the best-known (she could’ve sung an early B-side and this crowd would have known every word), but because they’re the better songs. Over-saturation or snobbishness make it easy to forget what brilliant pop songs Style and Blank Space are: stylish, original, witty.

Swift’s performance tonight is a reminder that her clothes, her cats, her squad aside, it’s her songwriting that has won her enormous global fandom. Her great gift is treating love with such specificity – moving the furniture to dance (“is her apartment that small?” wonders my friend), driving at 2am – that it evokes your own experiences of it.

In Out of the Woods, giant paper airplanes circling above her, she sings about being in a snow mobile accident with Harry Styles; I think about an exchange in a burger bar in Melbourne. It was about my theory: once you’ve felt every emotion that Taylor Swift has sung about, life has no more highs or lows to offer you, and you keel over, spent. I ran through a lot of them on Saturday night.

Taylor Swift performed ‘Guilty As Sin?’ for the first time during one of her ‘Eras’ tour shows, and used the 89th show of the tour to create a mashup of songs from her ‘1989’ album.

The moment took place at the second of the singer’s three performances in Sweden last week, which also happened to mark the 89th show as part of her record-breaking ‘Eras’ tour .

For Swift, the number 89 has some significance – not only is 1989 the year that she was born, but it also marks the title of her hit fifth album which she shared in 2014. So, to celebrate the occasion in Sweden, the pop legend threw in some surprises during the set.

They took place as Swift launched into the surprise song section of the live show, which usually sees her play two songs that aren’t usually in the setlist. For the second show in Stockholm, however, she treated the crowd to four tracks.

The first was the debut of ‘Guilty As Sin?’ – a track from her latest album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ , which was played live for the first time.

“Welcome to the acoustic session,” she said before launching into the song (via Rolling Stone ). “When we’re doing a concert like this, it just doesn’t, it doesn’t feel like we’re even exerting any energy, because you just fuel us the entire night.

“Thank you for being this kind of crowd. You know it just, it makes me want to play one of my favourite songs from ‘Tortured Poets’ that I’ve never played live before,” she added. Find footage of the rendition below.

It was from there that Swift delivered yet another surprise for the audience – breaking into a mashup of three songs from the ‘1989’ album to mark the 89th show.

“It’s crazy because it really does feel like the beginning of the tour,” Swift said while sitting at a piano. “But this is actually our 89th show.” From there, she went on to perform a hybrid of ‘Say Don’t Go’ – taken from the Vault version of the album – as well as ‘1989’s  ‘Welcome to New York’ and ‘Clean’.

The surprises in the setlist were also seen the following night, as Swift wrapped up the final of her three shows in the city and broke out the first ever rendition of ‘How Did It End?’ .

Swift will continue to play shows across Europe, and will be heading to the UK and Ireland in June. This will include eight shows at Wembley Stadium in London this summer as part of the run, with support coming from Paramore.

Her concerts are expected to boost the UK economy by a reported £1billion . Though most of the money will most likely go on accommodation, tickets, transport and merchandise, it is estimated that one in five of the 1.1million ticketholders for the singer’s 15 UK dates across June and August will purchase new outfits specifically for the concerts.

  • In honor of the milestone, fans received a 1989 surprise song mashup: “Say Don't Go/Welcome to New York/Clean”
  • Swift will now bring her show to Portugal next weekend

Taylor Swift is showing that her 1989 album never goes out of style!

At her 89th Eras Tour show, the “Style” singer, 34, performed a surprise mashup of three songs from 1989 (Taylor's Version) for a sold-out crowd at Sweden’s Friends Arena in Stockholm on Saturday, May 18.

Fans shared videos on X (formerly Twitter) of Swift in an orange dress playing an acoustic mashup — of “Welcome to New York,” “Clean” and vault track “Say Don't Go” — on piano.

Several fans praised the singer for her song choices, including one who wrote on X that the medley “is nothing less than a love letter to her fans.” The fan added, “She is asking US to never go. The lights may be bright, but they'll never blind her. With us, she can be finally clean.”

Swift returned to the stage in Sweden after she was seen on a romantic getaway in Lake Como , Italy, with boyfriend Travis Kelce during a break between Eras Tour shows. The couple was spotted touring the city on a boat, taking late-night strolls, hugging and kissing.

“On the first night, they went for a long walk around the lake late at night [between 11 and midnight],” a source told PEOPLE about Swift and Kelce, 34. “It was very romantic. At times they would walk hand in hand. They would also exchange a kiss every so often.”

This weekend, Swift will wrap up her third and final Eras Tour show in Stockholm on May 19 before jetting off to perform in Lisbon, Portugal , next weekend.

The European leg of Swift’s tour is much different than her previous concerts in the U.S. and Latin America, as she added a section covering her new The Tortured Poets Department album. With the addition of new songs from her 11th album, she cut out some music previously seen on tour, including “The Archer,” “Long Live,” “The 1,” “The Last Great American Dynasty,” “Tolerate It” and “'Tis the Damn Season.”

New songs added to the set list include "But Daddy I Love Him," "So High School," "Down Bad," "Fortnight," "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived," "I Can Do It with a Broken Heart" and "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"

On Monday, May 20, Swift thanked fans for their record-breaking attendance: “Stockholm!!!! Thank you for being the most generous, excitable, magical crowds, and for breaking the all time attendance record for the stadium all 3 nights. Can’t believe this was our first time playing in Sweden - but it won’t be our last… 🇸🇪 🥰”

The Secret Behind Taylor Swift’s Superstar Shoes? Red Bottoms—and Loads of Crystals

By Christian Allaire

Earlier this month, Taylor Swift kicked off the European leg of her record-breaking Eras Tour, beginning her marathon of live performances with four nights in Paris. Since then, the global superstar has moved on to Stockholm. In both cities, Swift has brought her catalog of hits to the stage—not to mention her signature glitzy costumes, designed by labels such as Roberto Cavalli, Vivienne Westwood, and Versace . Punctuating these looks, however? An impressive range of custom Christian Louboutin shoes, famously known for their signature red soles. (The superstar also rocked Louboutin footwear during her North American leg.)

During Swift’s recent Paris shows, the singer sported seven different pairs of Louboutin shoes—including two new custom styles, a white lace-up boot and silver heeled sandals, worn for her new era, “The Tortured Poets Department.” Swift also debuted a new pair in Sweden—performing her “1989” era in mismatched crystal-covered ankle boots (one in yellow, another in blue). Throughout the entire course of Swift’s Eras tour, Louboutin tells Vogue he has created over 250 pairs for the superstar—including 60 new pairs for her European leg alone. “When working for performers, it’s better to start with a very large number of styles that will end up in a selection of designs which seem the best for the stage,” says Louboutin. “She also likes to entertain her audience and surprise them, date after date. So, there might be more to come…”

Turns out, the designer and Swift have fashion history together. The iconic shoe designer first outfitted Swift for her Reputation tour back in 2018, and has since continued to provide shoes for her various red carpet appearances or performances ever since. He was excited about the idea of working with her again on the Eras Tour—a tour that has become one of the highest-selling in history. “I admire how much emotion Taylor puts into her performance and her work,” Louboutin says. “She is a powerhouse and her ability to do this night after night, city after city, is exceptional.”

Swift’s glitzy, stage-ready heels for the tour were first brought to life from many conversations between Louboutin, Swift, and her stylist Joseph Cassell. “Joseph and Taylor were very instrumental in communicating all the different acts, and having shoes that reflect the genre she wore then with an updated modern twist,” says Louboutin. The trio aimed to find styles that fit the aesthetic of each “era” Swift performs on-stage. “For the ‘Fearless’ era, she only wore flat boots; Our Cate boot has a beautiful angle detail at the knee that makes it sexy and feminine,” says Louboutin. “For ‘The Tortured Poet Departments’ era, we created a custom last based on archival styles that represent the Victorian theme.”

Taking Swift’s custom clothing designs into account, of course, was also important when designing the shoes; Louboutin treated the footwear as more of a finishing touch. “It was inspiring to see the ready-to-wear looks,” says Louboutin. “Joseph shared with us the sketches, and from there we thought about what shined on stage and complemented her choreography.” Louboutin also had to make sure that what he created was made for movement—and dancing, given just how choreography-heavy her show is. “Performing requires a lot of skill and concentration, so whatever costume or shoes you're wearing must not become a distraction,” says Louboutin. “They need to disappear from your thoughts, allowing your voice to be the only instrument that matters, ensuring you give your best performance and convey emotion to the audience staring at you.”

Luckily, having interned at the Parisian cabaret Les Folies Bergère as a teenager (it’s how Louboutin got his start), the designer says he’s learned a few tricks about creating glamorous shoes that are performance-ready. “Since then, I’ve learned a few magic tricks to make sure the silhouette still looks great with shoes being 100% easy to perform in,” he says. His main secret to success for shoes that are superstar-worthy? Loads of crystals and shimmer. “That’s also something I learned at Les Folies Bergère: Lights on stage are very strong, and tend to flatten any surface,” he says. Crystals, then, ensure one’s shoes can pop. “For the opening act, you can see all of [Swift’s] Elenora boots from every seat in the house,” says Louboutin. “The way strass [crystals] catch the light is super impactful on stage. After all, this is the biggest tour in the world—the girl needs to shine!”

Taylor Swift: Which Eras Tour Songs Didn’t Make Concert Film & Which Surprise Songs Got In

Every show on the Eras Tour involves an acoustic set where Swift performs at least two songs custom to that night’s show. At first, she wouldn’t allow herself repeats unless she messed up the lyrics to a song, but now, she has done away with that rule and gotten more creative by combining songs in mashups and playing up to four in a segment. The first song or three take place on guitar, and then she shifts to piano for the second half before diving beneath the stage to resume the setlist – which has since contracted and expanded to include a  Tortured Poets Department  era and set .

Remember when you were at a sleepover or summer camp, and you and your friends made colorful beaded bracelets and traded them with each other? We certainly do, and that sense of nostalgia is exactly what makes crafting friendship bracelets for the Eras Tour so special. Trading a meaningful item that connects you with another Swiftie who has shared the same experience (like seeing your idol live in a once-in-a-lifetime concert) is what it's all about.

The idea to make friendship bracelets for Swift’s tour emerged sometime after the pop star released her tenth studio album,  Midnights,  in October 2022. One of the album’s tracks, “You’re on Your Own, Kid,” features the lyrics:

’Cause there were pages turned with the bridges burnedEverything you lose is a step you take So make the friendship bracelets Take the moment and taste itYou’ve got no reason to be afraid

After the album's release, some fans suggested on social media to create and swap friendship bracelets at the pop star's upcoming tour. Once the tour officially began and more concertgoers participated in the trend, creating friendship bracelets for The Eras Tour turned into a worldwide phenomenon. Swifties have shared tutorials about making friendships on social media, started selling friendship bracelets on Etsy, and posted videos of wearing and trading their bracelets at the Eras Tour.

After all, Swift’s football beau, Travis Kelce, revealed on his podcast “New Heights” that he tried to give the singer a friendship bracelet with his phone number before one of her concerts at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. “I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings, so I was a little butthurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her,” he admitted at the time. So you could say that a friendship bracelet kicked off their "love story."

Everyone from Swift and Kelce to the celebrity Eras Tour guests to the pop star's bodyguard has sported friendship bracelets from fans. Who knows, yours may even get onto the arm of Blondie herself.

A survivor's guide to Taylor Swift floor tickets: Lessons from an Eras Tour veteran

1989 tour enchanted

STOCKHOLM — Thousands of fans line up each morning ahead of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows hoping to get one of the coveted spots on the open, first-come, first-served arena floor.

In America, fans buy designated seats. Abroad, the floor is like a Southwest flight. There are no assigned seats, and those with VIP tickets nab the best spots since they are let into the arena an hour early.

Unless fans have VIP tickets, they'll probably end up in the mid-to-back sections of the floor, no matter how early they line up. After getting two floor tickets to two shows — one in Paris and one in Sweden — here are my tips for navigating the magic and madness of the ground level.

Like we were in Paris

An hour before Swift's last show in Paris, I and a friend of mine made a last-minute decision to buy $150 floor tickets off StubHub. We went to the arena 10 minutes before the opening act, Paramore, took the stage. At intermission, we stood by the VIP tent. I was able to say hi to "Grey’s Anatomy" star Jessica Capshaw . Twenty feet away, singer Christina Milian sat in a director's chair.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Up above fans noticed Swift's boyfriend Travis Kelce , his best friend Ross Travis, actor Bradley Cooper, supermodel Gigi Hadid and rock star Lenny Kravitz in a suite. I could understand why Kelce was in a box. The chaos of fans zooming in on their phone cameras to get grainy shots of his every reaction and waving arm dance moves was nonstop. But I get it, I got one for Instagram when Swift punctuated her 87th — his jersey number — show with a mashup of love songs including one that he inspired: “The Alchemy,” “Treacherous,” “Begin Again” and “Paris.”

Walking along the back rim of the floor and following Swift as she performed from different parts of the massive catwalk, I felt carefree and untethered. It was liberating not to fear losing a spot. Several fans danced in the less congested area similar to the thousands who danced in theater aisles during the blockbuster release of the concert movie.

Predicting Kelce would come down near the stage during “Karma,” I walked over to the guardrail and waved during the “Midnights” song. He and Swift took a different exit than her dancers, singers and bandmates. My friend had been to the Eras Tour a few times before and said that was his favorite show.

It’s nice to have a friend

In Sweden, I bought a floor seat on the right side of the stage. Hoping to get a closer spot, I camped out. The long wait created a mini community that exchanged friendship bracelets and the latest clown theories while posting videos to Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok. My favorite costumes in the Y entrance line were two Reputation clowns wearing scaly dresses and snaky blue boas paired with bright-red clown wigs that made everyone smile. (The joke is Swifties incessantly “clown” the singer will announce the rerelease of her sixth album and she has yet to.)

The shade from Friends Arena blocked the Swedish sun with temperatures in the 70s. The less-than-long merch lines allowed fans to save each other’s spaces to buy $75 hoodies and $45 T-shirts.

With no bags allowed in the arena , fans filled their pockets with only essentials like external battery chargers, wallets, passports and chapsticks.

Patient line waiters drank water early. Two Finnish fans by me said they stopped hydrating a couple hours before doors opened for fear of getting a good place and having to use the restroom.

Thousands of VIP fans entered an hour early, and any hope of getting a stage-side dominion was lost for general admission.

I staked a claim near the railing on the side of the stage base (by the corner of the back screen). Guitarist Paul Sidoti threw guitar picks to fans. Back-up vocalists Kamilah Marshall and Eliotte Woodford waved to admirers between running backstage for wardrobe changes and joining Swift center-stage. Pianist Karina DePiano stayed at the keys the whole concert but danced and sang to every tune. The other bandmates and vocalists were on the opposite, left corner.

Security guards who bordered the stage between the fan barricade and catwalk had stacks of cups and multiple, liter-sized water bottles. They frequently asked if anyone needed hydration. Around the “1989” set two-thirds of the way into the show, Swifties took the guards up on the offer.

At least four times on Swift's third night in Stockholm, fans were escorted by a guard along the stage to an area where they would get medical attention. One of the four was carried by a guard who asked his cohorts to get the girl water. Outside, the night chill hovered at 54 degrees and inside the arena’s temperature was tepid at best.

Several water stations on the floor included disposable cups with multiple faucets over a bathtub where fans could fill up.

At one point during the acoustic set, Swift paused to ask fans , “Someone in the front row, can you tell me yes or no to this question: When you guys are putting a bunch of flashlights up in a group, does that mean people need help?”

Best seat in the house?

There are advantages to each section of the floor. The diamond part of the stage is the premier spot for the most close interactions with Swift. It gets the rising platform, smoke shooters and bulk of the performances.

The two base corners by the back screen and the catwalk between the back screen and diamond allow fans to see “The Man” set, “Folklore” cottage and famous “Enchanted” look back as Swift exits the “Speak Now” era. It’s also the space where most entrances and exits happen.

The far end of the catwalk is where the “22" hat is given out, where “Love Story” culminates as flashing lights shoot across the entire arena and where Swift begins “The Tortured Poets Department” era with “But Daddy I Love Him.”

After being to multiple shows, I would vie for a seat looking directly at the stage, perpendicular to the back screen. You get the chance to give your legs and back a rest between eras. You have a designated spot, and you can see the entire show including animations.

The open floor offers two options. For the VIP ticket holder, you get a front row vantage of the record-breaking show along with the best photo and video opportunities. But if you’re not in VIP and on the floor, succumb to not getting the best media and dance in your best dress, fearless.

Taylor Swift wearing a yellow dress

Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour touches down in Madrid next week, and in the words of Swift herself, “it’s best that [you] move fast” if you’re planning on snagging last-minute tickets.

Swift is playing two back-to-back nights at Madrid’s Estadio Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday, May 29, and Thursday, May 30, and she’ll once again be joined by rock band Paramore as the opener.

Ahead of the two-night run, the tour stop made news as the Real Madrid football club filed a request to move up the final day of the La Liga season in order to give Swift’s team adequate time to construct the stage. It appears the match was moved, as Real Madrid will take on Real Betis tomorrow rather than the originally scheduled Sunday.

Enthusiasm is clearly at an all-time high, but prices on these shows are dropping to new lows. In fact, you can currently snag tickets for under $200; that was unheard of during last year’s United States leg of the Eras Tour, where tickets frequently went for over $1,000 last minute.

Sometimes it pays to procrastinate, and now is definitely one of those times.

Want to catch the show for yourself? Here’s everything you need to know about The Eras Tour in Madrid, Spain.

Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ news

Our team has been following the ‘Eras Tour’ closely since it kicked off in March 2023.

Over the past few months, we spoke to a Swiftie who  shared some helpful tips  about seeing Taylor live, reported on  dropping ticket prices  and  came up with a list of all the most exciting fan trends .

Taylor Swift new music

As noted above, Swift’s  “The Tortured Poets Department”  was released at midnight (and subsequently at 2 a.m.) on Friday, April 19.

While every listener will likely come away with their own favorites, the ones we’re spinning on repeat include the piano-driven “Peter,” TTPD’s track 5 “So Long, London,” and the slow-building “The Black Dog.”

If you want to give it a listen — if you haven’t already, that is — you can find “The Tortured Poets Department”  here .

The Hayley Williams-fronted pop-punk rockers are opening for Swift in Europe from May through August this year after a short run on The Eras Tour in the United States last year.

This may come as a bit of a surprise to their fans considering that the group mounted a successful arena tour of their own in 2023, but Williams and Swift are longtime friends, and Williams even featured on a vault track on “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).”

Paramore’s Eras Tour setlist also spans their eras as a band; it includes songs from their latest album , like “This is Why” and their recent cover of Talking Heads’ “Burning Down the House,” plus older hits like “Misery Business” and “The Only Exception.”

Huge stars on tour in 2024

Although it will cost an arm and a leg and maybe even some international travel to see Swift live this year, there are much more affordable concerts you can attend this year.

Here are just five of our favorite artists you won’t want to miss live, especially if you’re a Swiftie.

•  Olivia Rodrigo

•  Kacey Musgraves

•  Pink

•  Chappell Roan

•  Billie Eilish
