Kohli surprised many by not including Kuldeep today. Shami leaking runs is a bit of concern but the captain said he wouldn't want to be too harsh on the bowlers on a pitch such as this. With a few big names missing in the ODI squad, many pondered if Windies can score a sizeable total, considering India's stronghold in the middle overs with the ball. However, Hetmyer brought that freshness and made a big statement counter-attacking despite wickets falling at one end. The batting was sorted to an extent, but the bowling was disappointing. India made a mockery of a 300+ chase on what was a belter of a wicket for batsmen.

Virat Kohli (2/2) : "I have few years left in my career to enjoy this sport. Playing for the country is a matter of pride and a huge honour. You can't afford to take any game lightly. You got to be honest to the sport and that is when the sport gives you back. I try to do that. That's my basic thinking, because you are playing for India and not everyone gets to do that. It's difficult to contain when a side like Windies bats like that. I don't want to be too harsh on the bowlers, but yes, we could have applied a bit better and bowled better in the last few overs. That is something to learn for us."

Virat Kohli (1/2) - Indian captain and Man of the Match : "Feels pretty good. Very convincing win for us. Windies put up a really good total. 320 targets are very tricky, but we knew we could do it with a big partnership. It's never too difficult when you have Rohit at the other end. Among the top three, I mostly take the anchor role because both Rohit and Shikhar are good stroke-makers. It was one of those days where I felt good and I told Rohit I will continue to bat this way positively and maybe you can play the anchor role. When Rayudu came he took that role and Rohit took over from me. I think that's what ODI batting is all about. It's about communication and batting in partnerships. It's our 5th or 6th double-century partnership, it's a pleasure to bat with him. When we are batting like that, it's good fun out there and we know the team will benefit from it as well."

Jason Holder - Windies captain: "Pleased with the guys for the batting effort. Hetmyer batted exceptionally well. Kieran Powell got us off to a good start and then pretty much everybody chipped in from the lower half. We started decently with the new ball and it becomes difficult to bowl under lights. Our spinners couldn't be as effective as they wanted to be. We want to go back and reassess our plans. Probably we should have got 25-30 runs more, but we got a par score. Credit to Kohli and Rohit for taking the game away from us despite the early wicket. Really pleased for Hetmyer, especially after the Test series. He showed great character to comeback strongly. We could have got a bit more had he carried on for 5-6 more overs, but this is a young team and we will learn. Hopefully we can play a lot better in the second game."

Yuzvendra Chahal : On this wicket, we needed to vary our pace, we have to guess what the batsman is doing and bowl according to that. They (West Indies batsmen) were looking to hit sixes, so I didn't want to bowl the fuller ball. They are strong guys, need to bowl slower in the air, it's different when the ball spins. I played with Jaddu bhai in the Asia Cup, I told him that he could bowl slower on this wicket, we always talk with each other, even with Kuldeep, we make a good trio. We enjoy watching them (Rohit and Kohli) bat, they are two legends of the game, (smiles) at times we feel they are playing PS4.

Many eyes were on the young Oshane Thomas when India came out to bat. He took the new ball and bowled a really pacy first over (147kph, 147, 140, 149, 147, 147). When he knocked over Dhawan in his debut over, there was a bit of tension in the blue camp with him getting a lot of bounce and with this being a stiff chase. But, Virat Kohli counter-attacked him in style with a couple of boundaries in one over and showed he was in a great space today. The timing was so good, the shot selection was brilliant and the way he, alongside Rohit, tormented the bowlers was incredible to watch. 246-run record-breaking second wicket stand it turned out to be. 36th ODI hundred for Kohli and 20th hundred for Rohit came just like that.

Turns out to be a cake walk for India. A loss such as this can really be hard on you. Windies got to be mentally really strong to leave this behind and come back better in Vizag. But how did India make 323 look like 223? Lovely pitch to bat on, true bounce, a bit like the Wankhede and what do batsmen do in run chases there? Swing through the line without a seed of doubt about the two-paced nature of a cricket pitch and collect runs at will. That is exactly what happened today.

Windies Cricket Team to tour India for playing bilateral series between two nations in 2018. India to host West Indies for two tests, five One-Day Internationals and three twenty20s. The bilateral cricket series is scheduled to kick off on 4th October when two national teams to play first test in Rajkot.

Rajiv Gandhi stadium in Hyderabad will be hosting second test cricket match between 12 and 16 October.
