4/14/2019 - Nostromo99 Likes this wine: 89 Points
Fairly reticent nose. A whiff of vanilla oak and dark fruits. Plush and mouthfilling. Still some grip on the medium-length finish. Sweet fruit; no obvious signs of development. Not particularly complex, but perfectly drinkable. Probably at or near its peak but showing no signs of decrepitude. Enjoyable.

This is on the bold and bodied side. I like the rich vanilla that couples with red currant. Not terribly complex and lacks acid punch. Otherwise acceptable for the price

By the glass at the BA lounge Singapore. Last glass in the bottle. Dark with purple rim, bright. Light spice , good dark fruits, light to no oak on the nose. Medium bodied with a good ripe sweet core but in check. Nicol who tried it blind struggled to place it as a Shiraz and we guess that would be an issue for the one who likes the big and bold variety. For the lighter side lovers like us it was more to our taste. A good 89 and best to be had sooner than later when it's still fresh and bright.

Classic medium bodied shiraz for the price point. Unspectacular but absolutely works.

Rich, concentrated, seamless, supple, balanced
A near-perfect growing season with beautifully warm spring weather provided the ideal environment for flowering and fruit set. One of the hottest Decembers on record was followed by milder conditions, ensuring steady fruit development and ripening. The reds were harvested in March with intense colour, concentrated flavours and silky, fine tannins.
Parcels were de-stemmed but not crushed to preserve the whole berries, then fermented in a combination of open and static vessels at below 28˚C with twice daily gentle hand plunging or pump-overs. After pressing, the wine was transferred to barrel for 12 months maturation and blended prior to bottling in June 2021.

More from this Producer
Our fresh take on a contemporary Cabernet. The Modern celebrates what our organically farmed soils produce best. This medium-bodied, red-and-dark-fruited style is what we like to call a ‘serious drink now wine,’ whilst we predict it will age just as well.
Crafted from a combination of Tempranillo, Merlot and Shiraz fruit, with some skin contact Viognier adding textural complexity. An excellent food wine, but equally delicious as a crisp sundowner.
Cabernet but not as you know it, early-drinking, juicy and elegant, a nod to the strong coastal influence that defines our distinct style.
The warm dry weather experienced during the 2018 vintage provided the perfect conditions for crafting a Cane Cut Semillon, a vibrant and concentrated dessert wine with a lovely balance of sweetness and acidity.
With fantastic ripening towards the end of the growing season, the 2012 vintage produced a cabernet that is looking incredibly bright and youthful. A wine of great structure, complexity and depth, that still has many years of cellaring ahead.
An elegant Shiraz with that classic Margaret River energy and drive. Bursting with red berries and rhubarb, with hints of earth and spice. A soft, juicy style that is delicious all year round.

Voyager Estate Shiraz 2012
I really like the new images on the Voyager back labels. Lovely photos. The new Voyager Estate website looks great too.
Shame this Shiraz doesn’t quite feel right yet. Very much a product of a mixed season, this is purple red in colour (a suggestion of Viognier?) suggesting read sweetness, but there is quite a deal of sweet/sour candied fruit smacking up against a load of earthen, drying, slightly meaty astringency leading to a wine of two halves – a sweet and purple fruited modern side and a completely different, black earth edged, backward and briary sour palate.
End result is just a fraction jumbled – all arms and (acidic) legs. This is going to improve, but I didn’t enjoy yet.
Details:13.8%, Screwcap, $38 Tasted: May 2015 (sample) Best drinking: 2016-2026 Score: 16.8/20, 89/100+ Would I buy it? No. Buy online: Voyager Estate website

Voyager Estate Shiraz
Shiraz/Syrah
Syrah is a quintessentially Mediterranean-climate variety, a big cropper resistant to pests and diseases, producing dark, inky, aromatic reds with black fruit flavours and peppery, spicy characteristics.
It is the great red grape of the northern Rhône where it reaches its apogee in the deep-hued, muscular, long-lived wines of Hermitage and Côte Rôtie. It is a component of southern Rhône reds and the fastest growing grape in Franc’s Languedoc region, where it has been introduced as an improving variety.
As Shiraz , it is Australia ‘s most important red variety, where it forms the backbone of Grange, Australia’s most famous red, and is grown with increasing confidence in South Africa and Argentina .

What does it taste like.
Syrah produces dark red wines whose purest incarnation in the northern Rhône produces a wine with memorable aromas which can be smoky, floral, peppery, minty or spicy and often linked to a kind of medicinal or creosote-like character. Cool climates, whether northern Rhône or Victoria and parts of Western Australia, bring out the mint, pepperiness and the spice in the Syrah, while the warmer it gets the more it changes from raspberry to blackberry, becoming chocolatey and, with age, tarry and gamey.
