About Shoutout Atlanta
Every day we ask our contributors and interviewees questions designed to spark meaningful conversations. We ask questions about life, work, love, parenting, finances, and more. Questions like how you think about risk-taking, work-life balance, or online dating. We ask entrepreneurs why they started their business and we ask artists what their work is inspired by.
We think meaningful conversations are at the heart of community building. We also think every voice matters and that these conversations shouldn’t be led by billionaires, media elites, or celebrities. We feel it’s far more relevant to hear from the folks who make up the fabric of our communities – small business owners, mom-and-pops, and independent artists and creatives.
Shoutout Atlanta is part of the Los Angeles based Voyage Group of Magazines and our flagship publication, VoyageLA was started in 2015. Since then we’ve grown to almost a dozen cities, generated millions of page views and helped tens of thousands of entrepreneurs and creatives share their stories. Along the way we’ve built a vibrant and highly engaged community and Shoutout is about giving that community an opportunity to go beyond stories. By focusing on topics that are relevant to almost everyone we hope to inspire important conversations within the community and do so in way that puts artists, creatives and local businesses at the center of these conversations.

Atlanta's Poker League
Voyage ATL Magazine Interview
Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Blase.
Bryan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin? While bartending at The Vortex in Midtown in 2003, I had some customers ask to change the channel to the World Series of Poker. It was the first year they used cameras in the tables so you could see the player’s cards. As I watched, I thought this is something I could do. I asked the customers lots of questions and figured it out pretty quickly. Someone started a weekly bar game and I was hooked. I was reading all the books I could get my hands on, watching hours and hours of past and present poker footage and started a weekly home game. I was playing about ten games a week and numerous hours online back when it was legal. I was making decent money without taking much risk, playing mostly tournaments with modest buy-ins. Freeroll Atlanta started in 2005, and I played every game, luckily my girlfriend at the time worked nights so it wasn’t an issue. Daniel Stabler and John Carol started the league 16 years ago and kept it reasonably small. Later I moved to Korea and Vietnam to teach English and of course, search out any back alley poker game I could find.
After five years, I came back to Atlanta and taught English at a small school in Midtown Atlanta. Daniel, then the sole owner of Freeroll Atlanta, asked me to run some of his games, so I did that along with teaching. I started teaching at 8 am until three at my day job, then drove to Marietta to prepare and teach another two and a half hour class, then hurry back to Atlanta to run a tournament until 12 or 1 am I ran tournaments in Little Five Points, Midtown, Virginia Highlands and East Atlanta Village. While running these games, I kept saying to myself. I wish I could do this for a living! So I saved everything I could while living in a small studio apartment in Little Five Points. I noticed Daniel was getting busier with his other job, so I asked what it would cost to take this over? He said, let’s meet next week and give me a number. I ran some calculations and gave him my offer and he accepted. I’ve been playing with the league since its inception and have been running the games for about five years and have owned the league for two years. I’m running games every day now and looking to add new games all the time.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?

Interview with the Voyage Atlanta | December 2017
I found out this week that I will be interviewed by VoyageATL Magazine , which is part of the LA-based Voyage group of magazines. I plan to share every aspect of my music career and small business during my time in metro Atlanta and at Columbus State University. Thank you, Donald McAllister , Nicole Chamberlain , and Robert C. Flythe , for being part of a team that has helped me grow and expand since 2008.
On a side note, I finished hearing my first semester of juries at Columbus State University...went from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with breaks here and there. I enjoyed hearing these great students and was proud of my studio. Once I finish grading my classes, I can officially say that this semester is a wrap! WOO HOO!

I just did an interview with VoyageATL Magazine . Voyage started in Los Angeles with their flagship publication VoyageLA. After generating their first million page views in LA they branched out to Atlanta and a handful of other amazing cities. One of the concepts behind Voyage is to feature the "most inspiring stories" of the residents of the city.
I was honored to be chosen to share my story. I talked about my first entrepreneur ventures and what inspired me to start LIVIN' LIFE ® . I also talked about my journey and some of the struggles that I have faced along the way.
