Morris Murdock Escorted Tours (MMET) is the group travel department of Morris Columbus Travel. It specializes in hosted vacation tours and cruises to destinations using experienced guides and directors. Formed as a separate company in 1958, MMET was the first tour operator to offer Latter-day Saint (LDS) faith-based and church history escorted tours. Since its inception, the group has expanded its offerings to include humanitarian, educational, historical, shopping-focused, incentive, and other theme-oriented cruises and tours. The company often selects tour guides that are considered experts in their field or celebrities with an attachment to the destination or tour’s theme.

Morris Meetings & Incentives (MMI) originally started in 1996 as a group leisure branch of Morris Murdock Travel. In 1998, it was formed into a separate company to better serve its clientele. The company focuses on specialized programs for incentive groups, meetings, conferences, and executive retreats. Its proprietary software—called ORCHID—was specifically developed to provide clients with online registration. Texas Global oversees the International Travel Process for faculty, students and staff.  Prior to departing on a university-related international trip, the following steps must be followed.  The International Oversight Committee (IOC) maintains a Restricted Regions List of locations worldwide that pose a heightened travel risk due to health, safety and/or security reasons . Travel to these countries must receive pre-approval prior to making travel arrangements.  We encourage everyone that travels to subscribe to the Global Risk and Safety mailing list by sending a request to [email protected] . 

All UT Austin employees are required, per UT System requirements, to register their international travel through the UT Austin International Travel Registry ( UTAITR ).

Registered UT Austin travelers will be supported by Texas Global Risk and Safety staff, and will be covered through On Call International overseas insurance.

Owens announces new passport office for salt lake city.

WASHINGTON — Representative Burgess Owens (UT-04) released the following statement in support of the State Department’s announcement of a new U.S. passport agency in Salt Lake City.

“The Utah way sometimes involves leaving Utah for work, recreation, and service abroad, requiring timely and efficient passport services that residents can count on when making travel plans,” said Rep. Owens. “I am thrilled that Salt Lake City will soon be home to a new U.S. passport agency, which will reduce wait times and eliminate the need to travel for in-person passport services. I am incredibly proud of the Utah delegation’s efforts in securing this monumental win for Utahns and the entire Mountain West region.”

Background:

• Provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Years 2023 and 2024 required the State Department to conduct a thorough review of areas in the country with both high demand for passport services and no in-person access and to further develop a strategy for increasing accessibility for large population centers.
• In April 2023, Rep. Owens joined the entire Utah delegation in sending a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging the Department to select Salt Lake City as the location for a new passport office.
• The new passport office in Salt Lake City will offer a range of services, including the ability to process urgent passport applications, conduct in-person interviews, and assist with emergency travel needs. This new facility will significantly reduce the burden on Utah residents seeking passport services and enhance the overall efficiency of the passport processing system.
