Some may argue that traveling by plane is an occasion to dress up, but for most of us at Traveler, comfort is the main priority when planning a transit day ensemble: You want something loose enough that you won't need to readjust (or worse, unbutton) a few hours into a flight or road trip, but put-together enough to feel that you've made a switch out of pajamas and into a true outfit. Luckily, there is no shortage of loungewear sets these days.

Read on for 35 of the best loungewear sets to add to your travel wardrobe , many of which are sitting in our editors' dresser drawers. From upscale sweatsuits to cozy cashmere knits, they'll keep you comfy whether you're sitting on a plane, train, or in the passenger seat, and will get a re-wear on lazy vacation days when the only item on your to-do list is lounging around the Airbnb .

The Aerie LumberJane collection has been one of the brand's more popular releases. The collection features breathable, lightweight waffle fabric in shirts, shorts, and now polos. The LumberJane polo and short set are perfect for lazy vacation days spent shuffling around in your slippers . Each piece has raw seams along the sleeves, sides, and back that gives it a more lived-in look.

Buck Mason is at the forefront of elevated essentials. The Vintage Interloop set features an oversized crew that has a relaxed fit all around and thinly ribbed stiching on the cuffs to give more structure to the slouchy sleeves. The French terry sweatpants are slimming and so comfortable. Each set looks slightly different than the other, thanks to Buck Mason's Venice Wash technique that creates its cool, vintage look.

We're always raving about Girlfriend Collective, a size-inclusive, sustainably- and ethically-made brand. This set is made from half recycled, half organic cotton. They're available in your classic neutral colors, as well as this rich wine hue.

Kim Kardashian's shapewear and loungewear brand Skims never misses when it comes to cozy sets. The Cotton Fleece collection is a more sporty take on classic loungewear. The soft fleece shorts have an interior drawstring at the waist for a more customizable fit.

This chic pullover and sweat shorts both don the recognizable Alexander Wang logo. While the set is one of the trendiest pieces on our list, you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how soft the heavy brushed cotton terry is. Style the set with a small crossbody bag and pair of chunky dad sneakers for quick errands or walks around the city.

You can never go wrong with a simple high-waisted pant and tank top combo. The Anrabess sleeveless set is lightweight and thin, making it supremely packable in any weekender bag or carry-on. At just $30, it is one of the most affordable loungewear sets on our list.

Is there anything easier than throwing on a jumpsuit? Spanx AirEssentials jumpsuit is one of the brand's bestsellers—and it's just been restocked in more colors. We love the drawstring tie at the waist that gives the jumpsuit a more fitted and flattering look.

Traveler 's commerce producer, Paris Wilson , swears by Roots' loungewear. “I've been raving about Roots for years. It's hard to find a brand that doesn't skimp on quality,” she says. The Luxe Crew and Pintuck pant are made from a cotton and cashmere blend. While the material gives it a more chic look, the fit of the set is more relaxed and loose. This can easily be dressed up or down, and would look great with a sleek pair of white sneakers .

The loose fit of the Ramona sweatshirt compliments the brand's drawstring waist Jane shorts. The rouched terry fabric on the inside of each garment keeps you warm and cozy without overheating. As warmer days approach, the yellow dip-dye design is a must-have for your spring and summer wardrobe .

If you're looking for a more polished look, the Malibu set is for you. The set is made up of the Frank & Eileen Audrey Capelet and the Catherine Sweatpant . Each piece is made from 100 percent cotton triple fleece, making it incredibly soft. It's the perfect set for a long road trip or a chilly plane.

The Cool Stretch collection from Pact is made from breathable organic cotton. The soft, thin layers are a go-to summer fit when temperatures are high and you just want to chill inside. The tank top and shorts set comes in seven colorways and can be paired with Pact's Airplane cardigan or a cozy hoodie .

If you prefer something a little more roomy, the Oversized Tee and Harem Pant set from This is J is for you. It’s perfect for long-haul flights and road trips where comfort is at the top of your list, but you don’t want to step out in your pajamas. The soft, moisture-wicking fabric will keep you dry and comfortable whether you’re snuggled up on a train or plane.

This set is made for cold weather. The thick fabric will keep you warm and toasty whether you’re hanging inside with friends or out sightseeing. The top has a dropped shoulder sleeve that looks more oversized while the pants feature a wide-leg with a drawstring waist.. The set comes in 10 solid colors that are easy to pair with a slip-on sneaker or Ugg boots .

The soft ribbed knit of the Muse hoodie and sweatpant offers a lot of dimension to the duo. The set is lightweight enough that it can be worn over workout clothes without any bulkiness. The high-waisted joggers pair well with the cropped hoodie and offer a more chic silhouette.

You’ll be comfortable from head to toe with this ultra-soft pullover and pant set. The pants have a classic ‘70s wide-leg silhouette accompanied by an elastic waistband, while the pullover has a polo-inspired collar and a slightly cropped hem. An all-white set never goes out of style and will look great with a white sneaker .

The name tells you everything you need to know. The Coziest Cashmere Blend hoodie and jogger are ultra-soft. The fabric is warm yet breathable and the fact that it’s a blend gives you peace of mind that it won’t be ruined in the washing machine.

Traveler editors swear by Lunya's washable silk pajamas and cashmere Travel Set . The brand’s Silksweats complete its holy trinity of comfort. With a sherpa interior and thermoregulating abilities, you'll be comfortable without overheating in this set. Bonus: Both pieces are reversible so you can have two looks for one.

There's something to be said for a zip-up sweatshirt, even if they've largely been replaced by pullovers of late. For one, if your temperature flips from chilly to warm, you can regulate without bothering your seatmate while trying to take off your hoodie. We're a fan of the sweatpants, too: the deep pockets, cuffed ankles, and cashmere fabric are all plusses.

A new addition to OV's ultra-soft, lightweight, and durable CloudKnit line-up : this boxy T-shirt with a slightly cropped fit. It comes in charcoal, navy, mocha, fog white, and jasmine blue, all of which will match your go-to black leggings or joggers .

Awarded one of Oprah's Favorite Things in 2020, I was eager to put on Cozy Earth's ultra-soft joggers, and am happy to report they lived up to the hype. Made of a mix of premium viscose from bamboo, acrylic, and spandex, they're smooth and cool to the touch, and have a loose but not baggy fit. I've worn them a ton on WFH days, and would happily fly in them. Snag a matching pullover if you like the matching set look.

San Francisco–based Quince launched a maternity collection, which includes a nursing-friendly long sleeve and lounge joggers with an adjustable drawstring waistband. All of the collection's pieces are made with renewable materials like Tencel lyocell, a biodegradable fiber made from wood pulp; mulberry silk, a hypoallergenic and thermoregulating fabric; the company's SuperSoft fabric, a blend of recycled polyester and tencel; and sustainably- and humanely-sourced Mongolian cashmere.

Outdoor Voices’ All Day hoodie and sweatpants set really is made to wear from dusk to dawn. It aims to be the softest pair of sweats you will ever wear, and stacks up, with a CloudKnit fabric that feels as cozy as your most worn-in pair of pajamas. The sweatpants are high-rise and more fitted toward the bottom to give the most flattering look possible, too. The pieces can be bought individually and come in six different colors, from neutral charcoal to a rich Kalamata purple.

While former Traveler editor Jessica Puckett's favorite cashmere set has since sold out, Cuyana's Pima outfit is another great option for plane travel and lounging, particularly in warmer environments, as the material is soft, smooth, and breathable.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Shorts, Human, and Person

Former Traveler editor Corina Quinn turned us on to Vuori's DreamKnit Collection hoodie and jogger set. “The DreamKnit feels like a cloud—it's so soft and cozy, yet lightweight, so you don't get too hot or too cool in them,” she says. “On top of that, because there are a few different models of jogger pants and tops, my friends and I have all found a model that's flattering for us.” For a pair of sweats that make you feel like you’re wearing a real outfit without actually doing so, Vuori’s unbelievably soft, stretchy sets are an easy pick.

Friend + Folk is a size- and gender-inclusive brand that prioritizes a limited carbon footprint, and puts it into practice by way of free carbon neutral shipping, recyclable and plastic-free packaging, limited batch-production, and more. The Joon joggers are a favorite—the fit is roomy and comfortable yet still tailored, and the zippered pockets are ideal for stashing AirPods, lip balm, and other odds and ends without worrying they'll fall out as you dash through the airport. Pair them with the Perry pullover and you've got a new airport uniform.

Lululemon may be best known for its leggings and workout wear, but don't skip over the brand's loungewear. This set is made out of a smooth Softstreme material that is stretchy and feels smooth against your skin. It's a great loungewear set to wear if you run hot.

travel loose shirt

We love this Madewell number, made of a fleece-like Superbrushed terry fabric. Wide legs and a loose fit make it just the kind of thing we want to wear on long travel days, and the patch pockets are much appreciated. Since it does have tank top-style straps, bring a cardigan or other added layer for the plane.

travel loose shirt

Some loungewear is better suited for inside wear, like this cozy ribbed shorts set. Wear the pullover, with its bell sleeves and slit in the back, over leggings for long-haul flights. The stretchy shorts have a fairly short inseam, so they'll likely be more comfortable as a sleeping short or loungewear piece to change into when you arrive at your hotel or rental house.

Image may contain: Clothing, Suit, Overcoat, Apparel, Coat, Human, and Person

This two-piece set might be the closest thing to sleepwear on this list, and yet is still cute enough to feel confident while wearing through the airport. It comes in a dozen colors, from basic heather gray to bold indigo blue, and pairs slouchy, relaxed fit pants with a scoop-neck button-up henley.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Human, Person, Standing, and Pants

Sure, all sweatpants are designed to be comfortable, but the cotton, modal, and spandex fabric Knix uses takes things up a notch. The smooth, cooling, and slightly stretchy fabric feels fantastic against skin and looks a bit more put-together than typical sweatpant material.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Dress, Human, Person, and Pants

Most loungewear tends to follow the same cut, so we appreciate Monos, a luggage brand , shaking things up when delving into clothing. This set is as soft as any sweatpants out there, with a mid-length wide-leg pant and a short sleeve V-neck tee that's just slightly cropped.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, and Pants

Anything labeled Signaturesoft nails both the rest day and flying-comfortably mood we're going for. The top and bottom have a streamlined shape and the sweatpants are tapered at the ankle. Both pieces are made of a comfortable rayon, acrylic, and spandex mix, so you’ll feel cozy while still looking put together. The sweatshirt and sweatpants can be purchased individually and come in nearly a dozen colors should you want to mix and match, and the sweatshirt passes the video-conferencing-chic test, in that it looks more like a standard sweater than workout wear.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Pajamas, Human, and Person

Not a hoodie person? You might like this cowl-neck top, which comes with cropped pants, both made of a super soft jersey and spandex fabric. Shop the set in gray, sky blue, strawberry, or buttercream, and wear it on your next overnight flight to feel like you're in pajamas.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Footwear, Shoe, Human, Person, Suit, Coat, Overcoat, Sleeve, and Long Sleeve

You may never want to put on pajamas again after wearing Softwear's Lounge Set. The fabric is buttery soft inside and out. Both the pullover and joggers are tailored and fitted with a clean silhouette—the top could pass for a normal sweater—while still being ultra soft. Plus, it’s long-lasting: The sustainable fabric is pilling-resistant and made to keep its shape after every wear.

Made for pregnant or nursing moms, this Everly Grey set is designed to fit a baby bump and make nursing easier with side openings on the top. Made of stretchy fabric with cuffed ankles and wrists and pockets on the hips, it's a loose, ever-so-slightly tailored look you'll wear again and again. Order it in one of four neutral colors: black, charcoal, oyster pink, or denim blue.

In the past, I’ve been plagued by my collection of travel shirts that show sweat, and patterned blouses that I can’t (or shouldn’t) be memorably wearing in trip photos. I pray that none of my travle shirts will wrinkle. I strive to have shirts that could be worn more than once without washing.

My struggles have led me to testing and reviewing more travel shirts that lots of women swear by. In my latest trip, I tried my best to nail the travel shirt dilemma by bringing a range of shirt styles from a range of brands.

Here are a wide variety of travel shirts I’ve tried, and my opinions on them! Make sure to check out the photos of me wearing them, to see if these are fits and styles that will be easy to wear on your next trip.

Mott & Bow Slub Crew Tee & Relaxed Slub Tank

I started wearing the Mott & Bow slub tees and tanks this year and packed a few on a trip to the Catskills in Upstate NY . Because they’re pretty thin, and good for spring and summer, you can pack quite a few of these into a packing cube, and they don’t take up a lot of space at all! (I actually really enjoy folding them into little squares).

travel loose shirt

They’re made of soft pre-washed cotton, and come in basic neutral colors that’ll match everything. I didn’t think I’d gravitate toward Military green, but I did, and it’s my favorite slub tank besides the white one that I find goes with every summer outfit.

travel loose shirt

As for the fit, the slub tanks are nice and loose, so I wear a cami under them. The tees are much snugger and fit the form a bit more. Both styles are very affordable and can go right into your pack for your next adventure to wear with your travel pants of choice .

Mott & Bow Slub Crew Tee

Bluffworks Threshold Crew & V-Neck T-Shirt

The Bluffworks Threshold fabric is the important part of this basic tee for travel .

I specifically like to wear the Threshold shirt when I’m flying, because I tend to get sweaty and icky. I’ve found that the breathability and ability to dry quickly helps me feel a big fresher when I walk off the flight.

travel loose shirt

I tend to like V-necks better sometimes, and the Threshold tees also come in flattering “V” necklines version. For me, I find it simple to dress up either of these with high-waisted shorts, some jewelry, a cardigan or cute shoes.

lululemon Love Curved-Hem Crewneck T-Shirt

The Lululemon Love T-Shirt fit me perfectly when I put it on. I was wondering if it would look OK with leggings (my travel pants of choice), and because of the curved hem, it provided the coverage I wanted. I’m happy to dress this one up with a high-waisted skirt, or shorts, and some flats and a necklace.

travel loose shirt

The stretch feels awesome when I’m wearing it. What I like is that for my build, it fits in both the shoulders and the bottom hem without specifically being sized ‘petite.’ It’s not skin-tight, even though the fabric is thin, so I feel comfortable in the fit if I’m having a day when I feel a little bloated (like some days when I travel).

lululemon Love Crewneck T-Shirt

Express your personal style with the lululemon Love Crewneck T-Shirt, a classic piece for everyday wear.

Ibex Women’s Paradox Pocket Short Sleeve Tee

The Ibex Women’s Paradox Pocket Tee (formerly the brand’s “Merino Tencel Pocket Short Sleeve Tee,” as a tip) makes me feel down-to-earth and relaxed. This shirt is so soft and lightweight, which pleasantly surprised me when I wore it for the first time!

travel loose shirt

This travel shirt is totally versatile and has a comfy and relaxed loose fit (not body-hugging) that works best for me with high-waisted shorts or pants. If you find it too cropped, I recommend layering a cami tank underneath for either warmth or modesty. My key recommendation is to grab your size and chosen color without delay, becuase it frequently goes out of stock and is a best-seller.

Ibex Women’s Tencel Pocket Tee

A nice classic merino tee style with a pocket

Bluffworks Threshold Cowl Neck Top

Much like the rest of the Bluffworks women’s apparel for travel, the Cowl Neck top is a classy and dressier travel top that I tried out. It’s made of the Threshold fabric that I know from the crew and V-neck tees.

travel loose shirt

As a note for petite women like me, this one comes in petite sizing! I’m 5’2” and wearing a size Petite XS. Honestly, it runs a little long, but that’s ideal for tucking it into a skirt or some slacks. My favorite travel feature is the secret zipper pocket at the side for handy essentials or valuables. It’s basically a theft-proof shirt for women, and it’s about time we had one! (Also, a tip: it’s on sale quite often.)

Public Rec Essential Tee

Public Rec’s Essential Tee is like a perfect basic travel shirt that packs up small in my bag. I’ve worn mine with jeans, joggers, patterned bottoms and gym shorts.

I like how “fine” it feels, and the fit has always been perfect on me from the start, even though I have a short torso and wear petite sizes. It’s a cropped fit, but it fits me how I like my shirts to fit: hitting right before the hip. When you pick your fit, keep in mind that it’s true to size (in my experience).

travel loose shirt

In my full review of the Essential Tee , you’ll see more photos of the fit. One more tip: Hurry up, as it’s being discontinued and you’ll only fit it in one or two sizes!

Upgrade your wardrobe with the Public Rec Essential Tee, an everyday staple for the modern man.

Mott & Bow Crew Marcy tee

Mott & Bow’s 50/50 Pima cotton-Modal tops were what I first tried as travel shirts. My Marcy tee packs up teeny tiny in my bag when I take it on a trip in a packing cube. These Marcy tees are simple basics, which is something I’m always on the hunt for, especially as a quick decision for an outfit when I’m on the road.

travel loose shirt

The Crew Marcy tee comes in a lot of colors, which makes it hard for me to pick. I went with some basics.

Take my tip on buying yours: you can load up on a few with the bundle of 3 or 6, and save anywhere between 20-27%. If you’d like to see more of what Mott & Bow offers as a brand, I’ve reviewed a lot of the products in this guide, with photos .

Keep it simple and sophisticated with the Mott & Bow Crew Marcy tee, an everyday essential.

Seadon W’s Traveler Merino Tee

I hadn’t heard of Seadon until I tried the W’s Traveler Merino Tee , an ultra lightweight, soft and stretchy shirt, in XS. Finally: a true-to-size XS top that I can wear as a perfect fit travel shirt (although it runs a little long on my short body).

travel loose shirt

Seadon makes women’s and men’s apparel, as well as accessories like totes, beanies and underwear (which I tried, and genuinely recommend because it’s so soft!).

What I like about Seadon so far is that they will send your products in plastic-free packaging. My Seadon apparel arrived at my house in a biodegradable envelope mailer, which can even be composted in your compost bin.

KUHL Konstance Shirt

KUHL’s outdoorsy Konstance top is a best-seller made from a polyester and Tencel-spandex blend. When I wear it, I layer it under a zip-up hoodie or a windbreaker, and I’m be ready for hiking the trails with Dan in no time.

Even as a petite woman, I find that this shirt is only a “little” big in the shoulders, and it doesn’t run too long. Keep in mind that I’m 5’2” and about 110 lbs. It’s a spacious shirt with somewhat boxy shoulders, so maybe it’s kind of unique. The standard runs sizing, according to how this one fits me.

travel loose shirt

Style meets comfort in the KUHL Konstance Shirt, a versatile addition to any wardrobe.

Quince 100% European Linen Short Sleeve Shirt

Coming from the brand that makes my Quince hard shell suitcase , this lightweight and loose button-down linen shirt is a fan favorite from Quince’s travel collection. As with all Quince tops and blouses, the price is unbeatable and the quality is “affordable luxury,” like everything Quince makes.

This travel shirt is what I’ll put on for a day on the streets of Lisbon , or for a dinner outdoors on the water at a resort or on a boat. It has a boxy fit and a laidback vibe, with the three buttons, wide hem and timeless collar style. The 100% European flax linen makes it heat-regulating and breathable.

This collared button-down shirt is made from flax linen and provides breathability during travel.

Public Rec Go-To Muscle Tank

Public Rec’s Go-To Muscle Tank is a pretty athletic-leaning top that I just started wearing for travel. I like the performance fabric that kept me cool on a rather hot day in summer when it was really humid. This travel tee is specifically good for layering, and I like the slimming fit and the unique sleeve design.

travel loose shirt

Regarding the fit, it’s a bit tight around the middle. I haven’t worn it with high-waisted shorts or pants, but I’m thinking it may work best for this type of styling.

Stay cool with the Public Rec Go-To Muscle Tank, a perfect blend of comfort and modernity.

Paka Apparel Women’s V-Neck

I wore my Paka V-Neck travel tee for the first time on my trip to Colombia! I couldn’t wait to wear it in some of our travel photos because I love how it fits and how it feels. I like that it’s soft and durable, and I think the timeless V-neck scoop is flattering.

travel loose shirt

This special company works with artisans in the Peruvian Andes and all the products have a unique “handwoven tag.” While the V-neck is currently hanging in my closet, it’s coming on all my trips in the near future. Plus: despite the fine alpaca fabric blend, it’s machine-washable.

Paka Apparel Women's V-Neck Shirt

Flatter your look with this super-soft V-neck travel tee made from alpaca fibers.

Everlane Pima Cotton Shirts

From the Pima Cotton collection at Everlane comes several options for your next trip, including this awesome long-sleeve bodysuit with a unique square neckline that’ll have your friends asking where you got it.

At a very affordable price point of $45, and made of Supima cotton and elastane, it’s a cool item to be wearing under high-waisted pants, loose jeans or any other type of comfortable travel pants .

As a clarifier on Supima cotton, it’s a special type of cotton grown only in the US and because of its long fibers, it absorbs moisture better than regular cotton.

For a tank-top style bodysuit, there’s the Cutaway Tank Bodysuit (note that a main difference is the cut in the backside).

Simplify your wardrobe with the Everlane Pima Cotton Shirts, designed for comfort, durability, and timeless style.

prAna Cozy Up Scoop Neck Tee

From travel brand prAna, a company featured in my guide to the best travel dresses for women , is this scoop neck tee made from hemp, recycled polyester and Tencel Lyocell.

Because of the fabric, it has natural odor-reducing abilities, and with the laid-back scooped neckline, it’s a great item to have in your pack for summer and early fall when days are still warm.

prAna designed this tee to be a closet staple, or rather, an essential item in your packing cube. As for fit, this product comes recommended for busty women who may have trouble finding styles that fit otherwise.

Stay casual and cozy with the prAna Cozy Up Scoop Neck Tee, a perfect blend of comfort and style.

The North Face Dune Sky Shirt - Women’s

The affordable The North Face Dune Sky Shirt - Women’s from one of my favorite outdoors brands, The North Face, is a plain and simple shirt for travel days or as a hiking layer. It comes in quite two bold colors, and you’ll see it’s available in an all-encompassing array of inclusive sizing from XS to XXL.

Through its recycled polyester build (with FlashDry™ materials), it’s lightweight and has anti-odor technology. This is a superb combo for when you’re out getting some activities in, and then you hit a brewery or lunch spot with travel friends right after.

The North Face Dune Sky Shirt

Stay comfortable and put-together with The North Face Dune Sky Shirt, a perfect choice for an active lifestyle.

Free Fly Women’s Elevate Lightweight Tee

The Elevate Lightweight Tee is a special type of featherweight shirt that’s super soft to the touch and made from the brand’s four-way stretch and drirelease® tech. When I put it on, it felt airy and almost like it wasn’t there.

travel loose shirt

The fabric and the style are the best parts of this shirt to discuss. Well, this particular Free Fly product runs big, so it didn’t give me the fit I was looking for, but I gave it to my friend Alex, who is my size but a dab taller, and it fit her tons better! I went into more detail about it at my Free Fly apparel review , where I talk about this shirt and more of the products from this brand.

Pair it with the Free Fly Reverb Shorts, which you can see in my guide to the best women’s travel shorts .

Free Fly Women's Elevate Lightweight Tee

This ultralightweight travel tee dries insanely fast and is also good for workouts.

Jack Wolfskin Pre Light Chill T

As the last T-shirt in this list, the Jack Wolfskin Pre Light Chill T is an activewear shirt for a sporty traveler. I tried it in size XS, and my suggestion for you when you pick sizing is to size down , as Jack Wolfskin runs big.

Jack Wolfskin is an outdoors and adventure apparel brand that I’ve come to know from products like their jackets, like in my Jack Wolfskin Down Jacket review . Just like the packability of that coat, the Pre Light Chill T packs up tiny in my packing cubes. It’s made from a technical jersey fabric that stretches and moves, with odor protection and functional features like TEXADRI sweat absorption.

This travel shirt packs up small and moves with you.

How I chose these shirts for travel

Over the years, I’ve pretty much figured out what I don’t appreciate in travel apparel and travel shirts. I can’t stand shirts that show perspiration, wrinkle after coming out of my bags, smell after getting sweaty on a bus ride and/or don’t fit in a flattering way. Based on these setbacks, I’ve decided what I do like my travel shirts to do for me.

What I’ve developed in this list is a range of shirts from those that could suit business casual events to the ones you want to wear for your next hike or trek. Some are for both! Here are a few of the things I’ve considered.

The shirts in this list come from my favorite travel brands . Some of these brands I’ve been able to try out first from their travel pants or travel dresses , and some I’ve been recommended by friends or found online. I trust these brands for making quality gear, and I hope you will too.

These shirts come in a range of prices. I’ve absolutely included shirts at every budget, from the really affordable ones in the $30-40 range, to the ones you’ll want to dish out for at the $80+ range. My budget for travel clothes has changed throughout the years, and I expect that the women reading this guide will have varying budgets for travel clothes.

From merino wool to recycled polyester to hemp, there are quite a few looks to consider for travel apparel. The same goes for travel shirts. The sportier shirts are stretchy and are made from quick-dry blends, whereas the merino wool shirts are high-quality and usually sustainably-sourced items with marks of excellence.

Technical features

I always appreciate a travel product with really impressive features. That might be the thoughtful hidden zipper pocket in the Bluffworks Cowl Neck Top, or the asymmetrical or square necklines on some shirts and bodysuits you see in my list.

The shirts in this list range from relaxed tanks to bodysuits to tunics to simple tees. Every woman has several lenses of her style, and the same goes for me. Some days I’ll like a simple crew neck top, and other days I’ll be in the mood for a top like the Public Rec Muscle tank. I am also assuming you’ll be taking a few shirts in your luggage for your trip (but if you have only one shirt for travel, I’ll be truly impressed).

I hope you’ve enjoyed this list of travel shirts and even if none of them work for you this time, I hope you’ve learned a bit about the types of shirts that are out there for the future.

Why trust me?

I’m someone who, despite years of travel, can never decide which shirts to bring on a trip. I think I’m finally in a place where I have my go-to travel shirts (from this list!) and those are the ones that will be my travel staples.

I’ve been traveling independently since my early 20s, from Asia and then to Latin America, and later, from Europe to Africa. I’ve been in all types of weather and elevation levels and I’ve been on tons of different methods of transport. For me, having a travel shirt that doesn’t make me sweaty, stinky or annoyed, is what I need!

From this list, I hope you were able to figure out some travel shirts to try and I hope they become useful for you in your next adventures.

The Tortuga Promise

At Tortuga, our mission is to make travel easier. Our advice and recommendations are based on years of travel experience. We only recommend products that we use on our own travels.

Table of Contents

A great t-shirt is at the core of every traveler’s wardrobe. They work well on their own or as a base layer. Tees are small, light, and can be rolled up and stuffed into your travel backpack . The right travel t-shirt can be hand-washed and hang-dried or worn multiple times.

In this article, you’ll learn what makes a great travel shirt and find a range of men’s and women ‘s tees based on your needs and budget.

Why You Should Trust Us

Our team at Tortuga works remotely and travels frequently. You’ll find us in t-shirts more frequently than in business casual clothes.

Here on the Tortuga blog, we write gear guides about what to bring for your trip. When you’re traveling, your clothes count as gear too. Sure, you want to look good. But you also need clothes that perform. That’s why we test everything and share our favorites with you.

This post includes contributions from Tortuga’s founders (and professional gear nerds), Fred Perrotta and Jeremy Michael Cohen , as well as travel writers Nick Hilden and Jessie Beck .

What is a “Travel” T-Shirt?

What makes a t-shirt a travel t-shirt? At first glance, you might not see any difference between a basic cotton shirt that costs $10, a fancier brand that costs $30, and a merino wool tee that costs $100.

The main selling point of a travel tee is that you can wear it multiple times between washes. Anti-odor fabric, hydrophobic design, armpit gussets, sweat-wicking technology, and other smart features can all contribute to a great travel t-shirt.

As Outlier co-founder and creative director, Abe Burmeister says:

“The most important things for travel clothing are cleanness, durability, and packability. The longer an item stays clean the more useful it is and the less you need to pack. When you trust your clothes can handle getting pushed to the limits, you can carry less and the less you carry the further you can go.”

You can wear travel t-shirts longer than other shirts, meaning you can pack fewer total shirts. The less you pack, the easier it is to travel in just a carry on .

If you have a shirt that you can wear multiple times without washing (and without smelling terrible), you have a great travel shirt. But re-wearability is just the most important feature of a travel t-shirt, but it’s not the only factor. There are a few other considerations that go into choosing the best shirt for your travels.

travel loose shirt

What To Look for in a Travel T-Shirt

Cutting and sewing a t-shirt is pretty simple. The magic is in the material and the fit. When you’re shopping for a travel tee, focus on the fabric.

Pick the Right Fabric

Quick-drying, odor controlling, sweat-wicking, comfortable all day.

Merino wool is an outstanding material for travel as it’s comfortable, warm (yet breathable), and looks great. We like to call it “nature’s performance fabric.” Merino t-shirts offer the best overall performance on the market. However, they are also the most expensive and can have durability issues. So they aren’t the only option.

Cotton shirts feel pleasant on your skin but don’t travel well. Cotton wrinkles easily, absorbs sweat, and dries slowly. We like cotton at home but don’t recommend taking it on the road.

A blended fabric can offer high performance at a competitive price. Merino/nylon, cotton/polyester, or tri-blends can offer the positives of each material without all of the negatives.

For example, a strong fiber like nylon can offset the durability concerns of a more delicate fiber like merino wool.

Polyester dries fast and doesn’t wrinkle, which offsets some of the drawbacks of cotton. Cotton feels nicer than polyester, so the blend feels softer and more natural on your skin than 100% polyester.

When you’re traveling, you don’t want to spend your time at a laundromat. Instead, you can hand wash your clothes and hang them to dry in your hotel room or Airbnb. In this situation, you need a t-shirt that doesn’t take forever to dry.

My personal measuring stick for a quick-dry t-shirt is going from wet to damp in 30 minutes and hang drying in a few hours. At the minimum, your t-shirts should always dry completely when hung out overnight. You should be able to wash it and wear it the next day, no matter what.

Quick-dry shirts are also important if you’ll be sweating a lot, whether from hiking, exploring a city, or hauling your personal bag on and off airplanes and buses. Drying quickly will leave you feeling comfortable, not clammy.

Synthetic fabrics and blends are the fastest-drying materials. However, smells can linger on polyester and nylon if you’ve been sweating in your shirt.

Keep yourself smelling fresh, or at least not noticeably stinky, for yourself and for your fellow travelers. There’s nothing worse than being stuck on a flight next to the stinkiest passenger.

Odor-controlling fabrics are increasingly common, particularly in shirts designed for travel. Don’t be surprised that we’re again suggesting merino wool, which is naturally stink-resistant.

Blended fabrics aren’t as inherently good at odor management. But some have anti-odor treatments, like anti-bacterial coatings or silver threads. For example, Western Rise uses Polygiene on their cotton/polyester blended X Cotton Tee . However, we haven’t found those odor-controlling treatments as effective at staying stink-free as merino.

I’ve already mentioned the importance of shirts that dry fast and tamp down odors. A shirt that wicks sweat will help with both of those issues.

Shirts achieve wicking with fabrics that lift sweat off your body to the exterior of the shirt, where it evaporates more quickly.

While helpful for any traveler, sweat-wicking t-shirts are essential if you plan on being active during your trip. Whether hiking, cycling, hitting the gym, or simply walking around a hot city, you want to wear fabrics up to the job.

Synthetics are the best at wicking sweat but tend to hold on to smells and need to be washed more frequently. A blend provides a better mix of wicking and odor control.

Merino wool offers the best wicking in a natural fiber. Cotton is notoriously absorbent, making it a poor choice for wicking away sweat.

Alternatively, you can pack a separate gym shirt and accept that you’ll probably have to wash it after each workout.

travel loose shirt

Because a t-shirt is a core building block of your travel wardrobe , you should feel great whenever you wear it.

You’re going to wear your travel t-shirt a lot. You might even buy a drawer full of the same shirt. You should love wearing it.

Whether you’re buying an expensive merino t-shirt or a dozen of your favorite cheap shirts, you’re making an investment. Buy the one travel t-shirt that you really love and build from there. If you’ve never tried merino before, start with one shirt. Wear it on the plane. Wear it again. And again. Notice that it’s not smelly yet. Then decide how to build out the rest of your wardrobe. Don’t go “all in” with an expensive fabric you’ve never worn before.

If you go for merino wool, buy a shirt of high-quality, fine gauge merino that’s soft, not scratchy.

Blends often have a softer, more natural hand feel than 100% polyester or nylon. You’ll get the upside of a synthetic fabric without feeling like you’re wearing plastic.

If your shirt feels great, you’ll wear it with confidence.

When ordering online, check the shirt’s size chart and compare it to the measurements of your current favorite tee. Everybody is unique, and you probably have your own preferences for how long or short or how slim or loose you like your tees to fit. Check the size chart, read reviews, and size up or down to get a fit you’re comfortable with.

The Best Travel T-Shirts for Men

Unbound Merino black wool crew neck t-shirt

Best Merino Wool Men’s Travel T-Shirt

Unbound Merino Wool Crew Neck T-Shirt ($88)

Unbound Merino’s wool is so good you’ll almost forget this is a “travel” t-shirt. Wool is naturally temperature regulating and odor repellant. This tee from Unbound Merino is soft, lightweight, and so comfortable that you can wear it for days (or weeks) without washing it.

Streamline your packing list with a merino wool t-shirt, the perfect foundational piece to build your travel wardrobe around.

Western Rise X Cotton Tee Shirt

Best Blended Men’s Travel T-Shirt

Western Rise X Cotton Tee ($54)

A great cotton/polyester blend offers most of the same performance as merino wool at a fraction of the price. And many people prefer the feel of a smooth cotton blend over rougher wool.

Western Rise’s X Cotton T-Shirt is a medium-weight tee with great stretch. The shirt feels like cotton, but thanks to its polyester, dries faster and doesn’t wrinkle as much as you’d expect. The odor-repellant Polygiene coating even means that you can re-wear it between washes.

Lululemon Drysense Training T-Shirt

Best Quick-Dry Men’s Travel T-Shirt

Lululemon Drysense Training Short Sleeve Shirt ($78)

This is our go-to shirt for hitting the gym while traveling. Lululemon’s Drysense tech fabric is quick-drying and sweat-wicking. It also has a little loop on the back of the collar for hanging it from a hook, which helps with drying and ensures that the collar won’t stretch out of shape.

This training tee is also eco-friendly. All of the polyester in the Drysense series is recycled.

Next Level Apparel men's t-shirt

Best Budget Men’s Travel T-Shirt

Next Level Apparel Men’s N6210 T-Shirt ($8+)

This basic t-shirt from Amazon is an “excellent for the price” workhorse. The 60% cotton and 40% polyester blend feels good and never needs to be ironed. You can buy a trip’s worth of shirts for the price of one of our other picks. Despite the price, these shirts can last for years without any issues aside from pilling. We recommended the Next Level if you liked the old American Apparel t-shirts from before they sold to Gildan.

The Best Travel T-Shirts for Women

Women's Woolly V Neck Tee in merino wool

Best Merino Wool Women ’s Travel T-Shirt

Woolly V Neck Tee ($50)

Woolly’s V Neck Tee is made of merino wool, so it’s sweat-wicking, odor-resistant, and ultralight. A bit of elastane gives it some extra stretch.

Seattle-based Woolly is one of our favorites for a well-made, affordable, merino t-shirt for women .

Uniqlo AIRism scoop neck short sleeve t-shirt

Best Budget Women ‘s Travel T-Shirt

Uniqlo AIRism Scoop Neck Short-Sleeve T-Shirt ($15)

All the shirts in Uniqlo’s AIRism collection pass our test for travel-ready t-shirts. Made from a quick-drying, odor-resistant, and anti-microbial fabric, these tees can withstand the rigor of a full day (or three) out and about. They’re also lightweight and “feel like air,” which is ideal in hot-weather climates or as a barely-there base layer in colder weather.

At $15 each, they also come at a hard-to-beat price point for budget-conscious travelers. Really, the only downsides of these shirts are that they don’t tend to last as long as some of the other t-shirts on this list.

Travel Experts Advice

Prioritize breathable fabrics for comfort.

When I’m exploring new places and immersing myself in various activities, I want my clothing to work with me, not against me. I’ve experienced the discomfort of wearing non-breathable fabrics in warm and humid climates, and it’s not something I want to repeat. Breathable fabrics with moisture-wicking blends allow air to circulate, keeping me cool and preventing that sticky, uncomfortable feeling.

Hammer Tsui , Travel Blogger, A Fun Couple

Avoid Tight or Short Shirts

As a digital nomad and fashion designer traveling for over five years, the advice is to avoid anything too tight or too short. When traveling, a lot of time is spent sitting on planes, buses, or trains. When standing up, a tight or short shirt tends to ride up, which can be uncomfortable and sometimes even embarrassing.

Pazit Reuven , Fashion Designer and Blogger, Shawlovers

Select Versatile, Easy-Care Shirts

Versatility is the key to selecting the right travel shirt. Ideally, it complements various outfits you’ve packed, can be layered to adjust to different climate conditions, and is easy to care for. That way, it’s both fashionable and practical.

So, when you’re selecting a shirt for traveling, opt for versatile pieces that tick off all the boxes for comfort, style, and function. You can be assured they will serve you well!

Jackie Gately , Travel Writer, Enjoy Travel Life

Opt for Wrinkle-Resistant Fabric

A wrinkle-resistant shirt minimizes the need for ironing and allows you to focus on enjoying your trip while maintaining a polished appearance, making it a practical and versatile choice for any type of travel experience.

Jim Campbell , Owner, Honeymoons

A high-quality travel t-shirt that you love should form the basis of your capsule wardrobe and go a long way in helping you look, feel, and smell your best on the road. Tees are light and easy to pack so you can fit a week’s worth in your underseat backpack . Just make sure to pick a tee in the right material with measurements similar to your current favorite shirt. Then enjoy your trip and forget about doing laundry.

The Ideal Travel T-Shirt: What Features Matter Most?

There are a few key features to consider when hunting for the perfect travel t-shirt. They are:

Comfort: Comfortable, breathable fabric that won’t irritate the skin after hours of wear is the top trait to look for in a travel-friendly t-shirt. Smell-resistant and wrinkle-resistant fabrics like merino wool or bamboo are best for packability and re-wearability. Fabrics that are labeled as moisture-wicking or offer UPF sun protection are optimal for warm climates and sunny destinations.

Fit : Look for silhouettes that aren’t too tight and aren’t cropped too short. If you’re planning to do a lot of sightseeing or facing down twelve hours in a plane cabin, you don’t want your freedom of movement restricted by your outfit.

Durability: Sheer, flowing fabrics look great in vacation pics, but won’t stand up to a hard day of travel or a quick wash in the hotel room sink. Save the fancy fabrics for statement pieces and commit to a t-shirt that will stand the test of travel.

Merino Wool T-Shirts Women’s Styles for Travel

Table of contents.

It’s no wonder TFG readers are obsessed with merino wool clothing . It’s the ultimate travel fabric!

Merino wool is thermoregulating, which means it’ll help to regulate your body temperature in both cold and warm climates. It’s great at locking in body heat when you’re out in the cold for long periods of time, but its thin, lightweight fibers are incredibly breathable and draw moisture away from your body, keeping you nice and cool in the heat as well.

An amazing bonus is that a merino wool t-shirt won’t smell, even after repeated wearing, making it the perfect, hassle-free addition to a travel capsule wardrobe. Not only that, but they pack small, won’t wrinkle, and feel incredibly comfortable.

One reader took them to Europe in the summer and shares, “The hype is true—they kept me cool, don’t hold odor, dry quickly for bathroom laundry, wrinkles very little, is super lightweight and easily packable. LOVE them. Also, they were NOT itchy at all, and I have sensitive skin.”

Another reader says, “I used merino wool as layers in the cold. Warm AND cool, no sweating. Multiple wearings between washing and never smells. Perfect travel items!”

This article is just as great as all the others! I bought a merino wool tshirt after reading. I am one who finds wool it by to the point of cannot tolerate at all. So the jury is still out for me as I thought I felt some prickly feelings wearing the shirt. I will try it again!

Great suggestions. Nothing better but a few comfortable t-shirts & a couple of button down front shirts to wear as blouse or layering.

I personally found the WoolX shirt itchy..but glad it seems to work for others!

I have a WoolX sleeveless tee that I brought to Italy and it was great, even in the heat. Hand washes without wrinkling and stayed fresh despite feeling sweaty in the heat of Rome.

After reading about merino wool t shirts I ordered a Metrolino tee. Be been wearing it for two hours, no itching and feels very comfortable. I’m a convert. I’ve worn merino wool socks nearly every day for the past four years, so I shouldn’t be surprised.

Although a bit overwhelming, choosing the best travel clothes for hot climates does not have to be hard. There are many options when choosing the best travel clothing for hot and humid climates but you’ll want to make sure you choose the right fabrics, colors and shapes for your body type, activities and destination. Breathable fabrics and garments crafted from moisture-wicking fabric are perfect for the great outdoors and active adventures but there are also stylish clothing options for less active adventures that still keep you cool in hot destinations. Knowing what to look for will help you choose the right clothing and avoid costly and sweaty mistakes.

You can start checking off your  warm weather packing list  after you decide where you are going and what activities you plan to do. In this packing guide, along with plenty of suggestions, and convenient shopping links, I’ll share useful fabric knowledge to help you choose the best lightweight travel clothing for you!

Table of Contents: Jump to

Fiber Content

Fiber content in clothing refers to “the materials or fibers that make up the fabric or textile used to create the garment.” -The Textile Glossary

When finding the best lightweight travel clothing for hot climates, it’s essential to look at the fiber content label to know what the garment is actually made out of. Fabrics can sometimes look and feel the same on the outside, but their fiber content (treatment or construction) may be entirely different, which means their performance will be different. Reading the content label and understanding fabric characteristics is the best way to choose appropriate clothing for hot climates. The fiber label is usually sewn into the side seam or attached to the neck label of each garment, in most countries it is required by law.

Fabric Characteristics

Once you know what the garment is made out of, it is important to know how that fabric preforms.

Most fabric falls under two main categories, Synthetic (man-made) or Natural. Some fabrics are a combination of both natural fibers and man-made fiber. Each type of fabric has their own advantages and disadvantages.

The Most Common Natural Fabrics

  • Cotton – Breathable, lightweight and hypo allergenic. It is easy to care for but absorbs moisture easily, can loose its shape and dries slowly.
  • Linen – Linen is light and airy and dries quicker than cotton. It is very breathable but does wrinkle easily. It is one of the most popular summer fabrics.
  • Silk – Very lightweight and drapes easily but is delicate, hard to care for and shows sweat easily.
  • Wool – Very durable and breathable and has natural moisture wicking properties. It is wrinkle and odor resistant but prone to shrinkage and can be itchy in warm weather.

Natural fabrics are great for hot summer days and casual wear outfits including breathable pants, loose fitting tops, and breezy dresses with a stylish look.

Chart to help you learn popular summer fabric characteristics to make it easier choose the best lightweight travel clothing for hot climates

Most Common Synthetic Fabrics (Semi-Synthetic)

  • Rayon- Often used to replace silk and cotton. It is lightweight and drapes well but only moderately breathable.
  • Polyester – Wrinkle resistant and easy to care for but it traps moisture and is prone to odor.
  • Nylon -What most bathing suits are made out of. Stretches easily, is durable and drys quickly.

Synthetic materials are great for athletic clothing and outdoor activities where you’ll be sweating. They help to pull moisture away from the skin and keep you dry. This is why if you are running or hiking in cold weather you should never wear cotton underwear or base layers. Cotton will trap body moisture and keep it close to your skin making you colder.

The Best Fabric for Hot and Humid vs Hot and Dry Climates

Loose-fitting clothing and breathable fabrics such as cotton and linen are the best choices for staying cool in hot, humid weather. However, when choosing apparel to wear in warm weather, it is essential to select fabrics right for the type of activity you are doing and the type of heat you are experiencing.

Humidity means more sweating, so depending on your activity, you may opt for tighter fitting, wicking clothing (summer wool or tech-polys) over naturally absorbent materials. In some cases, cotton is preferred for its natural cooling abilities, although it will become wet and heavy with excess moisture and eventually make you cold.

If you are an avid hiker, you probably have heard the popular rule of thumb “Cotton Kills.” Most hikers avoid cotton because of its absorbency, slow drying, and failure to regulate body temperature.

Garment Fit, Construction, and Design

In addition to fiber content and fabric characteristics, garment fit, construction, and design are important variables to pay attention to while choosing the best lightweight attire for warmer climates.

  • Fit -if you are planning to be active moisture-wicking clothing is best. Make sure it fits tight or it won’t be able to do its job.
  • Construction – Breathability increases with looser weaves and open knits; while tighter knits or weaves create less breathable fabrics.
  • Design – Mesh cut-outs, zippered air vents, retractable collars, and sleeves are designed into garments to improve features such as UV ray protection and breathability.
  • Colors-  Light-colored clothes are best in hot and humid climates. Dark colors asorbe the sun’s heat while light colors help reflect the sun’s rays.

Pro Tip: D.I.Y garment breathability test; in a well-lit room, hold the garment up and see how much light passes through. More light=more breathability.

UPF Protection + Performance Clothing

Hot temps usually mean intense sun, which is best taken in moderation to prevent sunburn, wrinkles, and premature aging. Living in Florida, with a fair complexion and freckles, I always do my best to protect my skin from too much sun exposure. Lightweight clothing with a UPF factor is a great way to enjoy the sun while blocking UV rays. Although all fabrics have a level of UV protection, not all fabrics are UPF protectant. Elements such as weave, stretch, wetness, color, and finishes determine how well a garment will protect you from the sun.

Columbia’s PFG Tamiami   shirts are my go-to sun-blocking and moisture-wicking shirts when spending the day outside in the hot sun, especially on a boat. They come in so many colors, are lightweight, quick-drying, and easy to throw on when you start to feel the burn, plus they are wrinkle-resistant, which makes them great for traveling!

I am also a fan of  Patagonia’s tech-tee line  Capilene® Cool .   This is their “most versatile performance knit for use on trails or the water.” This tech-tee provides 50+ UPF sun protection and HeiQ® Fresh durable odor control. Their styles range from tanks, and short sleeve tees to long sleeve hoodies and are available for men, women, and children.

Merino-wool clothing: For really active trips or long hiking days, summer wool is becoming more and more popular. Gone are the days of merino-wool being a cold-weather garment only. With its moisture-wicking, breathing, and odor-fighting natural properties, merino wool has now evolved into a year-round staple. Wool is also wrinkle resistant so it is another great option for traveling.

SmartWool   and  WoolX  do a great job creating high-performance clothing for all seasons. Merino wool is more costly than its polyester competitor but well worth the money if you want something that works well and lasts. Wool can be itchy- it never bothers me in cold weather but make sure you get fine, high quality merino wool (like Smartwool or WoolX) to wear in warm weather.

Some popular performance brands :

  • Under Armour ISO Chill® – Helps disperse body heat to provide cooling power.
  • Patagonia Capilene® Cool -Patagonia tech tees keep you comfortable when you’re working hard in conditions ranging from cool to hot.
  • Cotton Incorporated Trans DRY® – Combines the comfort of cotton with moisture-wicking performance that rivals any competitive fiber in the market.
  • WoolX- Some wool can be itchy but the wool tops I have from wool

Fashionable Clothing for Hot Climates

If you are on vacation you may want a few fashionable pieces for a day on the beach a night out.

I look for lightweight and loose-fitting pieces in breathable fabrics for these types of occasions. I prefer to allow a bit of airflow to help cool me off in hot climates and love cotton and linen blends.

Some of the best travel pants are these linen pants from Athleta . They also come in joggers .

Bathing Suits and Cover-Ups

Andie Swim is my new favorite bathing suit company. They have many full and moderate coverage suits that pair great with shorts making it easy to go from the beach to a restaurant.

Long sleeve suits are quickly becoming a staple in my swim draw, For one, it’s the best way to avoid using sunscreen.

Pro Tip: Long sleeve bathing suits are great for wearing under a wet suit when scuba diving. They help the wetsuit glide on and off your body without riding up like a rash guard.

Hot Weather Accessories

From wide-brimmed hats to sunscreen and cooling devices consider these items when packing for hot weather to help you stay cool.

Popular Questions:

How do i avoid wrinkled clothing while packing.

  • Use sheets of tissue paper between clothing and roll rather than fold or lay flat.
  • Roll multiple garments together keeping the most prone to wrinkles garment on the outside
  • Use Dry cleaner bags to wrap each outfit in before packing
  • Once at your destination hang all clothing immediately
  • Hang garments in the bathroom while taking a hot shower. Make sure doors are closed so the garment can absorb the moisture to help remove stubborn wrinkles.
  • Pack a portable travel steamer with you

Pro  Tip:   Never fold linen! If you have to, fold it along its seams and hang as soon as possible. It will produce deep wrinkles if folded into luggage for long periods of time. Laying flat is the best option, and rolling is the 2nd best option to avoid wrinkles as best as you can.

How do I pack light

  • Bring essentials and basics that can be mixed and matched to form more outfits
  • Use accessories to change the look of an outfit
  • Bring only a weeks worth of clothing and plan to wash it for longer trips
  • Bring less shoes and wear your bulkiest pair (that goes for bulky jackets too)

How can I wash clothes on the go?

  • Hand wash delicates in a sink with mild detergent
  • Consider using laundry detergent sheets for easy packing and no surprise leakage
  • Try using a portable wash kit like the Scrubba Wash Bag for on the go washing

What are the best fabrics for extreme heat?

  • In extreme heat make sure to protect your skin from the sun. Skip the tank tops and short sleeve tops and opt for lightweight breathable long-sleeve tops instead.
  • Performance material in light colors is best for active days when you may be sweating.
  • For fashionable frocks, the best materials to wear in extreme heat are lightweight fabrics including cotton, silk blends and linen. Opt for lightweight pants, a loose fitting tops or a loose fitting maxi dress allowing for airflow. Pair your outfits with a wide-brimmed hat and sunnies for a complete fashionable look.

I hope this post gives you more insight on how to choose the best lightweight clothing for any hot and humid get-a-way. The biggest takeaways should be to choose the right lightweight and breathable fabrics for your preferred activities in light colors. Enjoy your vacation!

You probably want to avoid wearing T-shirts to the airport due to this reason

Fashionable travelling requires not only a sense of style, but also a well-thought-out strategy.

Clothes like these can really make a difference in an emergency situation [iStock]

Many of us, when planning a plane trip, pay a lot of attention to what we wear.

Recommended articles

It depends on whether we will feel comfortable during these few hours waiting at the airport and later on board the plane.

However, according to an experienced flight attendant, your favourite T-shirt or fashionable short-sleeved blouse are not the best choice for a flight.

Andrea Fischbach , a long-time flight attendant for American Airlines, recently shared her travel attire tips with internet users. She also talked about the mistakes that passengers she served made.

According to her, the most common ones include wearing tight clothes, high heels and excessive jewellery and accessories. While they may look attractive, they are usually inconvenient and can cause people to be stopped at security.

In an interview with LADbible TV, Fischbach stressed that while comfort should be a key element of travel attire, simple solutions aren’t always the best. This can have unforeseen consequences – especially in an emergency.

Long sleeves, loose clothes - this is how you can travel comfortably and safely

"I grew up travelling, and one of the rules my mom taught me was to always have my body covered," Andrea explained. In an emergency, like being evacuated from a plane down an inflatable slide, more skin is protected by a layer of fabric.

For this reason, when Andrea travels privately, she chooses long sleeves and trousers. Sure, this may seem like over-caution, but clothes like these can really make a difference in an emergency situation. She also avoids items and clothes with fringes or made of flammable materials, e.g. polyester, because they may pose a fire hazard or melt on the body.

ALSO READ: Why wearing black socks on a plane may be dangerous

The flight attendant also advises that instead of wearing tight clothes for the flight, pack them in your suitcase. Swelling during travel is common, and tight clothes can further restrict blood flow, increasing the risk of thrombosis.

"If you are tall, travel a lot or take long flights, this is extremely important," Andrea reminded. "It's very important to be able to move around in the chair a little bit — which is very difficult, I know — and keep the blood flowing," she added.

All this shows that fashionable travelling requires not only a sense of style, but also a well-thought-out strategy. So keep these tips in mind when packing for your next trip!
