Would highly recommend the tour with its new additions including the precinct, police station, exhibition of artefacts and replicas of the interior of the Rovers Return and Roy’s Rolls.

Our guide Sid was excellent – amusing and very informative. All the staff we came across were enthusiastic and friendly.

We had a lovely time, our guide Daniel was brilliant, very informative about the show past and present. We loved our time there had plenty of opportunities for photos, I enjoyed the exhibition at the end seeing all the outfits from characters and the rovers and Roy’s rolls set up. Fantastic would highly recommend.

The Coronation Street tour is great for fans of the show. You get to walk along the famous cobbles and see the outside sets. We chose to go on a star tour and met Andy Whyment who plays Kirk. It was good to see some peices from the set too. Our tour guide Callum was very knowledgeable and made our tour enjoyable. We would definitely recommend this tour.

‘Coronation Street’ and ‘Emmerdale’ tours back for 2024

Pip Ellwood-Hughes

Soap fans rejoice – the ‘Emmerdale' and ‘Coronation Street' set tours are back for 2024.

ITV Studios will reopen the doors to both shows for a new season of behind-the-scenes fun across 2024. With both soaps filming almost two feature films a week each, the weekends bring the time to stop and open the doors to give soap fans from all over the world an immersive treat as they step into the ‘real world’ where the shows are filmed.  With set changes and the occasional top secret storyline ‘spoiler’ no two tours are ever the same either giving visitors the occasional unpredictable plot twist visit or sight of something brand new before it hits the nation’s screens.

Emmerdale tour

Last year’s fantastic reaction to ‘Star Tours’ (by visitors and the cast themselves!) brings more dates for fans to meet their favourite cast members whilst wandering the cobbles of ‘Corrie’ or the lanes of Emmerdale Village.

Alongside tours, at the ‘Coronation Street' Experience, the team are planning plenty more exciting activities and events including special cinema screenings and after the sell-out introductory screening event  ‘An Evening with Todd Boyce', more ‘Evening with….'  fun will follow throughout the year.

Last year the ‘Coronation Street' Experience was unveiled including cafe, cinema and exhibition floor which continues to allow fans to experience that little bit of extra ‘telly’ magic from getting up close to legendary props and costumes, or sitting in the Replica Roy’s Rolls before a photo behind the replica ‘Rovers' bar after a walk around the real live set.

Over in ‘Emmerdale' this year you will join your tour by coach from the beautiful Harewood House estate, home to the UK’s most famous village which is hidden deep within its grounds.  Arriving at the village guests will continue to experience fan favourites including a wander by The Woolpack, a nosy at David’s Shop and of course a walk through the world’s only permanent ‘fake graveyard’!

Guest David commented “It’s such a brilliant experience from start to finish. My wife is a  massive ‘Corrie' fan, she had the best time and so did I!!! Rory, our tour guide was exceptional, full of expertise, humour and knowledge and made the experience all the better. Would 100% recommend this tour to ‘Corrie' lovers and those who aren’t.”

Juliet, an ‘Emmerdale' guest said “Did the ‘Emmerdale' tour on Sunday, brilliant day from start to finish. Our tour guide was Sue, she was very informative with a great sense of humour, friendly and chatty and nothing was too much trouble for her. It was exciting to walk round the village, see all the houses and find out what goes on inside them. There were plenty of photo opportunities as you weren’t rushed round and had time to ask questions.”

Bookings are now open for both experiences, full details are below. Details of additional ‘super soap’ events will be released throughout 2024.

Downton Abbey and Coronation Street star Joanne Froggatt pregnant with first child at 43

Joanne Froggatt, who is best known for her role in Downton Abbey, has announced her first pregnancy at the age of 43 on the Into Film Awards red carpet

coronation street tours uk

  • 13:46, 25 Jun 2024
  • Updated 14:20, 25 Jun 2024

Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt has revealed she's pregnant with her first child.

The 43-year-old actress debuted her baby bump on the red carpet of the Into Film Awards this afternoon. The actress looked incredible in a red mini dress. She wore matching heels at the event which took place at the Odeon Luxe in Leicester Square, London.

The beaming star cradled her bump as she posed for pictures and looked happier than ever while doing so. Last year, the Downton Abbey star was pictured holding hands with a handsome man called Mark. At the time, insiders claimed that Joenna was "besotted with" the mystery man.

The actress has since kept her romantic life incredibly private and has yet to publicly confirm the the father of her unborn baby.

Joanne has been on our screens for nearly three decades - and her life has changed dramatically during that time. The Golden Globe-winning actress first appeared in The Bill in 1996 and has gone on to star in Coronation Street and Sherwood.

Most recently, she led the cast of ITV 's drama Breathtaking, portraying Dr Abbey Henderson on the frontline as the first wave of Covid hits.

Much has changed in her personal life in recent years too. Joanne tied the knot with IT consultant James Cannon in 2012 and the couple lived in Buckinghamshire. Gushing about her relationship a few years later, she told The Telegraph: "He's passionate about film and theatre, so we have a common interest – and he's not in the business, so it's perfect."

In February 2020, in an interview with the same publication, Joanne announced that she and James had separated and didn't reveal the reasons for their split. "We've actually been separated for a little while," she explained. "I'm looking to the future... I'm just going to embrace this year and see what happens."

In 2021, Joanne admitted her life was in a state of 'flux' after her marriage breakdown - but she still felt so 'grateful' for everything she had. The Downton Abbey actor confirmed they had officially divorced in June 2021 and were no longer working together, but it felt like an 'exciting new chapter' in her career.

It came after the star said she and James had been planning to continue to run their production company, Run After It, together. But Joanne told Red Magazine: "I've taken that over now, so I'm running my own company. I'm excited to move forward with it and get my head around the direction in which I want to take things."

Joanne was previously engaged to DJ Phil Vane when she was 19, and they were together for eight years. When asked what both of those relationships have taught her, she said: "I've learned in the past year that you have to be really grateful for the good things", including her friends and family, health and work.

The UK's best film and TV studio tours

From King's Landing to Diagon Alley, these are some of the country's most impressive sets

  • Newsletter sign up Newsletter

Diagon Alley set at Warner Bros. studio in Watford

There's something about stepping into the world of a film or TV show that feels strangely familiar. Perhaps it's the local pub in a soap you've watched since you were a kid, or a grand old hotel that served as the backdrop to your favourite movie. Whatever the location, an immersive tour is a great way to take a trip down memory lane.

You don't have to go very far, either. The UK has its fair share of fascinating movie backdrops. From the cobbled streets of Corrie to Professor Sprout's greenhouse in "Harry Potter", these are some of the best film and TV sets to visit in 2024.

The Making of Harry Potter, London

The gold standard of film tours in the UK is this behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of Harry Potter at Warner Bros. Studio in Watford (about 20 miles northwest of central London). As the studio where all eight of the iconic films were made, it's home to an array of breathtaking sets spanning everything from the whimsical streets of Diagon Alley to the grand hall at Gringotts Wizarding Bank.

During the tour, visitors are given the chance to see countless props and costumes, discover how special effects were used to bring the magic on screen to life, and marvel at the art department's intricate miniature scale model of Hogwarts. Tickets for the standard day tour start at £53.60 and go right up to the £250 Deluxe Tour, which includes a souvenir guide book and a bottle of Butterbeer.

The Friends Experience, London

Fans of the much-loved TV series " Friends " will be pleased to hear they don't need to venture across the pond for this next tour. To celebrate the show's 30th birthday, Warner Bros. has teamed up with Original X Productions to create "The Friends Experience: The One in London" (tickets are currently on sale ahead of the opening in August).

Set within the waterside ExCeL centre in east London, the experience will be packed with full-scale re-created sets, costumes and props. Among the highlights is the chance to play foosball at Joey and Chandler's; take a photo behind Rachel and Monica's purple door; and sink into the orange couch at the show's iconic coffee house, Central Perk.

The Paddington Bear Experience, London

Set across a series of rooms at County Hall on the South Bank in central London, this activity-packed "multi-sensory" experience takes guests on an adventure to help the Brown family prepare for the Marmalade Day Festival.

Written by Katie Lyons and directed by creative collective Immersive Octopus, the experience was crafted to celebrate the 66th anniversary of Michael Bond's first Paddington book.

Kicking off at Paddington Station, you'll jump aboard a "full size train carriage" and journey through the capital to the Brown's house at No. 32 Windsor Gardens. Here, you'll explore multiple rooms before being transported to the jungle of Peru. The experience ends with a party at Windsor Gardens with Paddington himself where you'll be treated to, you guessed it, a delicious marmalade sandwich.

Coronation Street, Manchester

For dedicated Corrie fans, this 90-minute tour of the set in Manchester is a real treat. An expert guide will take you through the cobbled streets of Weatherfield – the biggest single TV production site on the planet.

Tickets also give you access to the permanent exhibition, which includes a collection of intricately designed replica sets (including the much-loved Rovers Return and Roy's Rolls), props and costumes from the show. There's plenty of opportunities to take selfies along the way, too.

Game of Thrones, Belfast

Located in an old linen mill from the 1900s that went on to become the studio behind "Game of Thrones" , this tour gives a remarkable insight into the making of the hit HBO series. The studio is a half-hour drive from Belfast and around 90 minutes from Dublin.

Over 150 costumes are on display from Emmy-winning costume designer Michele Clapton, including Daenerys's white fur coat and Cersei's coronation gown. Other highlights include early sketches by the art department detailing the meticulous scenery, and an expansive collection of studio sets (including the interiors of King's Landing), props and weapons (don't miss the dragon eggs).

This year's president is former Capital Radio DJ and Celebrity Gogglebox star Roman Kemp - who won the 2023 gong for Radio Personality - taking over from previous TRIC Presidents including Kate Garraway , Eamonn Holmes and Lorraine Kelly .

Paul Heaton of The Beautiful South singing into a microphone onstage wearing brown trousers and a white coat

The Beautiful South and The Housemartins hitmaker Paul Heaton has announced a brand new album and mammoth UK tour.

The chart-topping musician, 62 , is set to release his 10th studio album as a solo artist, titled The Mighty Several, on October 11.

To celebrate, the Fish ‘N’ Chip Supper artist is set to embark on a UK tour with shows in London , Leeds, Glasgow, Wolverhampton, Liverpool, Nottingham, Brighton , Bridlington, and Newcastle.

The tour will see the artist perform tracks from the new album as well as hits from across his career, with support from indie rockers The Zutons .

It comes ahead of the singer’s Glastonbury Festival performance, with Heaton hitting the legendary Pyramid Stage alongside the likes of Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and SZA .

The Mighty Several is the follow-up to his 2022 LP, N.K-Pop, which he made alongside former The Beautiful South bandmate Jacqui Abbott.

Speaking on Chris Evans’ Virgin Radio breakfast show , Heaton expressed his excitement to hit the road this many years into his music career.

‘I definitely enjoy it now more than ever, without a doubt,’ he said. ‘I remember more now. You know what the 90s was like; it was a bit harum-scarum and there was a period where all of us were a little bit worse for wear, or just took things in our stride.’

Heaton has made an enormous contribution to the world of music since the 1980s, first fronting UK pop band The Housemartins since their formation in 1983 alongside Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim .

They achieved mainstream success with the singles Happy Hour and number one hit Caravan of Love in 1986 before they split in 1988.

Heaton alongside Housemartins bandmate Dave Hemingway formed the Beautiful South in 1988 alongside former Housemartins roadie Sean Welch, Dave Stead, and Dave Rotheray.

The group frequently recorded with female vocalists, including Briana Corrigan, Jacqui Abbott, and Alison Wheeler.

They released a number of hits including Song for Whoever, Rotterdam, I’ll Said This Ship Alone, and number one single A Little Time.

After the band split in 2007, Heaton went on to release a number of solo albums with his first, Fat Chance, hitting shelves under the stage name Biscuit Boy.

He followed the debut up with 2008 album The Cross-Eyed Rambler, Acid Country in 2010, and The 8th a year later.

Paul & the band featuring guest singer @riannedowney_ will be performing on the Pyramid Stage at this year’s @Glastonbury Festival which takes place 26th – 30th June 2024. For more info visit https://t.co/Xl3noR1q0f pic.twitter.com/j634G0CAmC — Paul Heaton (@PaulHeatonSolo) March 14, 2024

In 2013 he reunited with Abbott to record new material, telling Clash Magazine : ‘Working with Jacqui again was like going into your garage and discovering a beautiful, covered-up Rolls-Royce that hadn’t been started in years.

‘Jacqui is one of the best singers I’ve worked with and is also part of my past. It was only a matter of time before I asked her.’

Their collaboration saw both artists enter the top 10 again, with their second and third albums – Wisdom, Laughter and Lines and Crooked Calypso – both dominating the UK albums chart.

Their fourth release in 2020, Manchetser Calling, became their first UK number one album in more than 20 years.

Play inspired by Windrush Scandal brings UK tour to Manchester

  • Windrush Generation
  • Saturday 22 June 2024 at 1:32pm

ITV News' Sam Taylor went to meet the cast and crew as they prepare for the final stop of their tour.

A play that tells the story of the Windrush Scandal from the perspective of a group of pensioners is being staged in Manchester .

The Windrush Warriors, which was written by and stars Coronation Street actor Nicola Gardner, is a "multi-ethnic comedy drama" that has toured the country telling the story of the Windrush generation.

Nicola said: "It’s an affectionate story about people in the autumn of their lives. The show is a life-affirming view of survivors; children of the Windrush generation. The Windrush scandal and its attendant hypocrisy is laid bare in this show.

"The show exposes the unfair predicament of people who having lived and worked in the UK for decades, are now heartlessly being shown that they are undesirable."

The Windrush generation are those who arrived in the UK from Caribbean countries between 1948 and 1973.

Many took up jobs in the NHS and other sectors affected by Britain’s post-war labour shortage.

It is called Windrush because a ship called The Empire Windrush brought one of the first large groups of Caribbean people to the UK on June 22, 1948.

At the time, the Caribbean was a part of the British commonwealth which meant those who arrived were automatically British subjects and free to permanently live and work in the UK.

But, the scandal began to surface in 2018 after it emerged, due to changes in the immigration system, thousands of Commonwealth citizens, many of whom were from the Windrush generation, were wrongly detained, deported and denied legal rights.

It was through talking to the people whose lives were upturned by the scandal that Nicola was inspired to write The Windrush Warriors.

Nicola said: "I spoke to them first hand and got their accounts, and that made me sit down and write this play."

The show's director, John Klark, added: "It’s been a real honour to bring those real life stories to the stage - this has happened to real people and it’s important to keep those stories alive and in the forefront of people’s minds."

The show features a diverse cast and crew, including Jewish, Irish, and Afro-Caribbean actors who all bring their lived experiences to the role.

Lukeland Chambers plays Brother Leroy, a "boisterous but fun" pensioner who arrived in the UK on the HMT Empire Windrush.

Lukeland said: "His job really is to rally the troops, keep everyone focused but also have fun while also supplying a lot of rum."

As the son of two members of the Windrush generation, Lukeland was able to draw on the experiences of his parents for the role.

He said: "They are the Windrush generation so I’ve often heard stories of how they were treated when they first arrived - so when I got the role it was a great reason to delve into that and use it for my character."

His fellow actor, Tommy C. Carey, was able to draw on his Irish heritage to relate to members of the Windrush generation.

He said: "As an Irish person, when we arrived in the 80s we weren’t really welcome… so for that reason I could really relate to the Windrush Generation."

The Windrush scandal and compensation scheme was introduced in April 2019, but five years on many have struggled to get the money they are entitled to.

Anthony Brown is a lawyer that represents and supports members of the Windrush Generation, and is also a founding member of Windrush Legal Defenders CIC in Moss Side .

He said: "A lot of trauma has taken place... The compensation scheme has been introduced but it's very confusing and a lot of people don't trust them."

However, Anthony Brown feels real progress is being made to right the wrongs of the Windrush scandal.

He said: "We’ve made a number of recommendations, but we’ve also realised that the community has faced detrimental factors in other areas such as education, health, art, and they all widen the disparity and add to the trauma.

"And we’ve found the Home Office is listening to that - and they are willing to work with communities up and down the country."

One of the recommendations the Windrush Legal Defenders CIC made to the Home Office involved encouraging art and theatre to help bring communities together and provide funding for projects like the Windrush Warriors.

Anthony said: "These communities have their own art, like Caribbean Carnival or sound systems, and that can bring people together. But we should also encourage things like plays and theatre to help tell our story both in and out of our communities."

The Windrush Warriors ends its UK tour at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation in Manchester with five performances between 25 - 29 June.

Windrush Day has been held on 22 June every year since 2018, to celebrate the contribution Caribbean migrants and their families have made to the UK
