Routine vaccines

Recommendations.

Make sure you are up-to-date on all routine vaccines before every trip. Some of these vaccines include

• Chickenpox (Varicella)
• Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis
• Flu (influenza)
• Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR)

Immunization schedules

All eligible travelers should be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines. Please see  Your COVID-19 Vaccination  for more information. 

COVID-19 vaccine

Hepatitis A

Recommended for unvaccinated travelers one year old or older going to Jordan.

Infants 6 to 11 months old should also be vaccinated against Hepatitis A. The dose does not count toward the routine 2-dose series.

Travelers allergic to a vaccine component or who are younger than 6 months should receive a single dose of immune globulin, which provides effective protection for up to 2 months depending on dosage given.

Unvaccinated travelers who are over 40 years old, immunocompromised, or have chronic medical conditions planning to depart to a risk area in less than 2 weeks should get the initial dose of vaccine and at the same appointment receive immune globulin.

Hepatitis B

Recommended for unvaccinated travelers younger than 60 years old traveling to Jordan. Unvaccinated travelers 60 years and older may get vaccinated before traveling to Jordan.

Cases of measles are on the rise worldwide. Travelers are at risk of measles if they have not been fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to departure, or have not had measles in the past, and travel internationally to areas where measles is spreading.

All international travelers should be fully vaccinated against measles with the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, including an early dose for infants 6–11 months, according to  CDC’s measles vaccination recommendations for international travel .

Rabid dogs are commonly found in Jordan. However, if you are bitten or scratched by a dog or other mammal while in Jordan, rabies treatment is often available. 

Consider rabies vaccination before your trip if your activities mean you will be around dogs or wildlife.

Travelers more likely to encounter rabid animals include

• Campers, adventure travelers, or cave explorers (spelunkers)
• Veterinarians, animal handlers, field biologists, or laboratory workers handling animal specimens
• Visitors to rural areas

Since children are more likely to be bitten or scratched by a dog or other animals, consider rabies vaccination for children traveling to Jordan.

Avoid contaminated water

Leptospirosis

How most people get sick (most common modes of transmission)

• Touching urine or other body fluids from an animal infected with leptospirosis
• Swimming or wading in urine-contaminated fresh water, or contact with urine-contaminated mud
• Drinking water or eating food contaminated with animal urine
• Avoid contaminated water and soil

• Breathing in air or accidentally eating food contaminated with the urine, droppings, or saliva of infected rodents
• Bite from an infected rodent
• Less commonly, being around someone sick with hantavirus (only occurs with Andes virus)
• Avoid rodents and areas where they live
• Avoid sick people

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS)

• Scientists do not fully understand how the MERS virus spreads
• May spread from to others when an infected person coughs or sneezes
• May spread to people from camels.

Tuberculosis (TB)

• Breathe in TB bacteria that is in the air from an infected and contagious person coughing, speaking, or singing.

Counsel your patients on actions they can take on their trip to stay healthy and safe.

Eat and drink safely

Food and water standards around the world vary based on the destination. Standards may also differ within a country and risk may change depending on activity type (e.g., hiking versus business trip). Prevent bug bites

Bugs (like mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas) can spread a number of diseases in Jordan. Many of these diseases cannot be prevented with a vaccine or medicine. You can reduce your risk by taking steps to prevent bug bites.

What can I do to prevent bug bites?

• Cover exposed skin by wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and hats.
• Use an appropriate insect repellent (see below).
• Use permethrin-treated clothing and gear (such as boots, pants, socks, and tents). Do not use permethrin directly on skin.
• Stay and sleep in air-conditioned or screened rooms.
• Use a bed net if the area where you are sleeping is exposed to the outdoors.

What type of insect repellent should I use?

• FOR PROTECTION AGAINST TICKS AND MOSQUITOES: Use a repellent that contains 20% or more DEET for protection that lasts up to several hours.
• Picaridin (also known as KBR 3023, Bayrepel, and icaridin)
• Oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE) or para-menthane-diol (PMD)
• 2-undecanone
• Always use insect repellent as directed.

What should I do if I am bitten by bugs?

• Avoid scratching bug bites, and apply hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion to reduce the itching.
• Check your entire body for ticks after outdoor activity. Be sure to remove ticks properly.

What can I do to avoid bed bugs?

Although bed bugs do not carry disease, they are an annoyance. See our information page about avoiding bug bites for some easy tips to avoid them. For more information on bed bugs, see Bed Bugs .

Stay safe outdoors

If your travel plans in Jordan include outdoor activities, take these steps to stay safe and healthy during your trip.

• Stay alert to changing weather conditions and adjust your plans if conditions become unsafe.
• Prepare for activities by wearing the right clothes and packing protective items, such as bug spray, sunscreen, and a basic first aid kit.
• Consider learning basic first aid and CPR before travel. Bring a travel health kit with items appropriate for your activities.
• If you are outside for many hours in heat, eat salty snacks and drink water to stay hydrated and replace salt lost through sweating.
• Protect yourself from UV radiation : use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15, wear protective clothing, and seek shade during the hottest time of day (10 a.m.–4 p.m.).
• Be especially careful during summer months and at high elevation. Because sunlight reflects off snow, sand, and water, sun exposure may be increased during activities like skiing, swimming, and sailing.
• Very cold temperatures can be dangerous. Dress in layers and cover heads, hands, and feet properly if you are visiting a cold location.

Stay safe around water

• Swim only in designated swimming areas. Obey lifeguards and warning flags on beaches.
• Practice safe boating—follow all boating safety laws, do not drink alcohol if driving a boat, and always wear a life jacket.
• Do not dive into shallow water.
• Do not swim in freshwater in developing areas or where sanitation is poor.
• Avoid swallowing water when swimming. Untreated water can carry germs that make you sick.
• To prevent infections, wear shoes on beaches where there may be animal waste.

Schistosomiasis, a parasitic infection that can be spread in fresh water, is found in Jordan. Avoid swimming in fresh, unchlorinated water, such as lakes, ponds, or rivers.

Keep away from animals

Most animals avoid people, but they may attack if they feel threatened, are protecting their young or territory, or if they are injured or ill. Animal bites and scratches can lead to serious diseases such as rabies.

Follow these tips to protect yourself:

• Do not touch or feed any animals you do not know.
• Do not allow animals to lick open wounds, and do not get animal saliva in your eyes or mouth.
• Avoid rodents and their urine and feces.
• Traveling pets should be supervised closely and not allowed to come in contact with local animals.
• If you wake in a room with a bat, seek medical care immediately. Bat bites may be hard to see.

All animals can pose a threat, but be extra careful around dogs, bats, monkeys, sea animals such as jellyfish, and snakes. If you are bitten or scratched by an animal, immediately:

• Wash the wound with soap and clean water.
• Go to a doctor right away.
• Tell your doctor about your injury when you get back to the United States.

Consider buying medical evacuation insurance. Rabies is a deadly disease that must be treated quickly, and treatment may not be available in some countries.

Reduce your exposure to germs

Follow these tips to avoid getting sick or spreading illness to others while traveling:

• Wash your hands often, especially before eating.
• If soap and water aren’t available, clean hands with hand sanitizer (containing at least 60% alcohol).
• Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth. If you need to touch your face, make sure your hands are clean.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing.
• Try to avoid contact with people who are sick.
• If you are sick, stay home or in your hotel room, unless you need medical care.

Avoid sharing body fluids

Diseases can be spread through body fluids, such as saliva, blood, vomit, and semen.

Protect yourself:

• Use latex condoms correctly.
• Do not inject drugs.
• Limit alcohol consumption. People take more risks when intoxicated.
• Do not share needles or any devices that can break the skin. That includes needles for tattoos, piercings, and acupuncture.
• If you receive medical or dental care, make sure the equipment is disinfected or sanitized.

Know how to get medical care while traveling

Plan for how you will get health care during your trip, should the need arise:

• Carry a list of local doctors and hospitals at your destination.
• Review your health insurance plan to determine what medical services it would cover during your trip. Consider purchasing travel health and medical evacuation insurance.
• Carry a card that identifies, in the local language, your blood type, chronic conditions or serious allergies, and the generic names of any medications you take.
• Some prescription drugs may be illegal in other countries. Call Jordan’s embassy to verify that all of your prescription(s) are legal to bring with you.
• Bring all the medicines (including over-the-counter medicines) you think you might need during your trip, including extra in case of travel delays. Ask your doctor to help you get prescriptions filled early if you need to.

Many foreign hospitals and clinics are accredited by the Joint Commission International. A list of accredited facilities is available at their website ( www.jointcommissioninternational.org ).

In some countries, medicine (prescription and over-the-counter) may be substandard or counterfeit. Bring the medicines you will need from the United States to avoid having to buy them at your destination.

Select safe transportation

Motor vehicle crashes are the #1 killer of healthy US citizens in foreign countries.

In many places cars, buses, large trucks, rickshaws, bikes, people on foot, and even animals share the same lanes of traffic, increasing the risk for crashes.

Be smart when you are traveling on foot.

• Use sidewalks and marked crosswalks.
• Pay attention to the traffic around you, especially in crowded areas.
• Remember, people on foot do not always have the right of way in other countries.

Riding/Driving

Choose a safe vehicle.

• Choose official taxis or public transportation, such as trains and buses.
• Ride only in cars that have seatbelts.
• Avoid overcrowded, overloaded, top-heavy buses and minivans.
• Avoid riding on motorcycles or motorbikes, especially motorbike taxis. (Many crashes are caused by inexperienced motorbike drivers.)
• Choose newer vehicles—they may have more safety features, such as airbags, and be more reliable.
• Choose larger vehicles, which may provide more protection in crashes.

Think about the driver.

• Do not drive after drinking alcohol or ride with someone who has been drinking.
• Consider hiring a licensed, trained driver familiar with the area.
• Arrange payment before departing.

Follow basic safety tips.

• Wear a seatbelt at all times.
• Sit in the back seat of cars and taxis.
• When on motorbikes or bicycles, always wear a helmet. (Bring a helmet from home, if needed.)
• Avoid driving at night; street lighting in certain parts of Jordan may be poor.
• Do not use a cell phone or text while driving (illegal in many countries).
• Travel during daylight hours only, especially in rural areas.
• If you choose to drive a vehicle in Jordan, learn the local traffic laws and have the proper paperwork.
• Get any driving permits and insurance you may need. Get an International Driving Permit (IDP). Carry the IDP and a US-issued driver's license at all times.
• Check with your auto insurance policy's international coverage, and get more coverage if needed. Make sure you have liability insurance.
• Avoid using local, unscheduled aircraft.
• If possible, fly on larger planes (more than 30 seats); larger airplanes are more likely to have regular safety inspections.
• Try to schedule flights during daylight hours and in good weather.

Medical Evacuation Insurance

If you are seriously injured, emergency care may not be available or may not meet US standards. Trauma care centers are uncommon outside urban areas. Having medical evacuation insurance can be helpful for these reasons.

Maintain personal security

Use the same common sense traveling overseas that you would at home, and always stay alert and aware of your surroundings.

Before you leave

• Research your destination(s), including local laws, customs, and culture.
• Monitor travel advisories and alerts and read travel tips from the US Department of State.
• Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) .
• Leave a copy of your itinerary, contact information, credit cards, and passport with someone at home.
• Pack as light as possible, and leave at home any item you could not replace.

While at your destination(s)

• Carry contact information for the nearest US embassy or consulate .
• Carry a photocopy of your passport and entry stamp; leave the actual passport securely in your hotel.
• Follow all local laws and social customs.
• Do not wear expensive clothing or jewelry.
• Always keep hotel doors locked, and store valuables in secure areas.
• If possible, choose hotel rooms between the 2nd and 6th floors.

Dengue in Colombia

Colombia reported 112,140 cases of dengue between 1 January 2024 and 26 April 2024, representing an increase of 373% compared to the same period in 2023. The cumulative incidence rate as of 26 April 2024 is 219 cases per 100,000 population.

Dengue in Ecuador

Ecuador reported 23,234 cases of dengue between 1 January 2024 and 26 April 2024, representing an increase of 371% compared to the same period in 2023. The cumulative incidence rate as of 26 April 2024 is 130 cases per 100,000 population.

Dengue in Paraguay

Paraguay reported 246,509 cases of dengue between 1 January 2024 and 26 April 2024, representing an increase of more than 1,800% compared to the same period in 2023. The cumulative incidence rate as of 26 April 2024 is 3,263 cases per 100,000 population.

Dengue in Peru

Peru reported 173,706 cases between 1 January 2024 and 26 April 2024, representing an increase of 357% compared to the same period in 2023. The cumulative incidence rate as of 26 April 2024 is 521 cases per 100,000 population.

Dengue in Argentina

Argentina reported 315,942 cases of dengue between 1 January 2024 and 19 April 2024, representing an increase of more than 600% compared to the same period in 2023. The cumulative incidence rate as of 19 April 2024 is 693 cases per 100,000 population.

Dengue in Brazil

Brazil reported 5,542,348 cases between 1 January 2024 and 3 May 2024, representing an increase of 371% compared to the same period in 2023. The cumulative incidence rate to 3 May 2024 is 2,590 cases per 100,000 population.

Cholera in Comoros

Between 2 February and 2 May 2024, a total of 4,901 cholera cases and 98 deaths have been reported on the three islands.

Ross River virus in Australia

As of 30 April 2024, a total 2,065 cases of Ross River virus have been reported in Queensland. This the highest number of cases recorded since the 2019-20 season and is 2.4 times higher than the five-year average. South-east Queensland has reported the majority of cases.

Cholera in Mayotte

As of 6 May 2024, a total of 58 cholera cases have been reported by the authorities in Mayotte for 2024. Cholera is rare in travellers, a vaccine is available for those who are at increased risk.

Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever in Spain

On 27 April 2024, the Castile and León Ministry of Health reported a confirmed case of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) in Salamanca.

Travel Vaccines and Advice for Jordan

Jordan, located in the Middle-East, is known for its ancient ruins, nature preserves and seaside resorts. The country is home to more than 7 million people and offers many different and riveting destinations to explore. These include the capital, Amman, and the Dead Sea.

Do I Need Vaccines for Jordan?

Yes, some vaccines are recommended or required for Jordan. The National Travel Health Network and Centre and WHO recommend the following vaccinations for Jordan: COVID-19 , hepatitis A , hepatitis B , typhoid , yellow fever , rabies and tetanus .

• Yellow Fever – Mosquito – Required if travelling from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission.
• Rabies – Saliva of Infected Animals – High risk country. Vaccine recommended for long-stay travellers and those who may come in contact with animals.

MERS in the Arabian Peninsula

Middle East Respiratory Syndrome is present in middle eastern countries including Jordan. There is little information on how people become infected. But, there is increasing correlation in human contact with camels. Symptoms of MERS includes fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

Travellers should take the following precautions to prevent MERS:

• Wash hands often and thoroughly.
• Avoid touching your eyes, ears, and mouth.
• Avoid close contact with those who are ill, especially if they could have MERS.

Do I Need a Visa to Enter Jordan?

Jordan requires visas for all travellers, but they are available on arrival. Visa duration is usually for one month. Passports must have at least six months validity upon entering the country. Proof of yellow fever vaccination may be required if you are travelling from a region where yellow fever is present.

How Is the Climate in Jordan?

Jordan is known to have shorter, cooler winters and longer, hotter, dryer summers. But, even though summer days tend to be hot, the night time can be rather cold. Rain is scarce in Jordan but when it does fall, it tends to be from October to March. March to May and September to November tend to be the best times to visit based on the prime weather conditions.

How Safe Is Jordan?

Jordan has a high threat of terrorism from indigenous and transnational groups. Both have planned and executed attacks in recent years. It is imperative tourists remain aware of their surroundings. Terrorists may target places like shopping malls, night clubs, resorts and transportation stops. If you notice any suspicious persons or objects, report it immediately.

UK citizens also tend to encounter a lot of petty crimes as well such as pick-pockets and purse-snatchers. To avoid being a victim of such crimes, remain vigilant and on guard. Keep your belongings secured in either a rucksack or another bag which you have a firm hold on.

Hiking in Petra

Petra, a city carved into the mountains by the Nabataean Arabs, is one of the Seven Wonders. Visitors can experience the city in many ways from archaeological parks to excavations.

There are also several historical locations to visit in Petra such as the Dana Nature Reserve and the Shobak Castle.

What Should I Pack for Jordan?

Deciding what to take on a trip can be tricky. For Jordan, be sure you have these items in your bag:

• Sun cream to protect against the strong UV rays in Jordan, use it even if you are walking around in the city.
• Clothing which covers the legs and shoulders. Jordan is a Muslim country and bare legs or shoulders can be seen as offensive. They should also be light so you do not overheat.
• Sturdy shoes such as hiking boots- the desert is tough on shoes which are made from cloth.
• Hand sanitizer helps prevent spreading diseases such as cholera or traveller’s diarrhoea .

The standards for patient care and medical services in Jordan may differ from your home country. Jordan has both public and private health sectors. Medical services in Amman and Irbid generally meet international standards but care in rural areas is often inadequate. Jordan has a relatively high supply of doctors compared to other countries in the region. The public sector provides the majority of the country’s care, but the private sector provides a higher standard of care.

In the event of a medical emergency, contact your travel health insurance company immediately. Hospitals in Jordan typically require upfront payment in cash, regardless if you have travel health insurance. Ensure that you have accessible funds to cover upfront fees and adequate travel health insurance. Before you depart, check with your insurer about the extent of their coverage in Jordan.

Pharmacies and medications 

Pharmacies generally have an adequate supply of medication, but some medications may be in short supply or temporarily unavailable. Many drugs are dispensed without a prescription. However, taking medication without consulting a doctor is not advisable. Patients typically receive little counselling from their pharmacist regarding their prescription. Avoid buying medication from markets or unlicensed pharmacies, as fake medication is a concern.

If you are travelling with medication, check with Jordan's embassy, consulate, or Ministry of Health for details on medication allowances and restrictions. If your medication is a narcotic or psychotropic, you can review Jordan's regulations on the International Narcotics Control Board . Note that these sources may provide incomplete or out-of-date information.

Road safety

Road conditions in Jordan can vary and traffic is often chaotic. Road rules are rarely followed or enforced. The country has a relatively high road traffic related death rate. Seat belts are required for all front seat passengers and drivers, but should be worn by all passengers at all times.

Jordan Travel Insurance Requirements

Jordan requires that all visitors have a valid health insurance policy for the duration of their time in the country. In addition, U.S citizens traveling to Jordan are required to register on the country’s e-platform,  Gateway2Jordan, prior to arrival. Doing so will provide travelers with a QR code that will be needed to enter the country.

Squaremouth’s Jordan Travel Insurance Recommendations

All foreign travelers heading to Jordan are recommended to buy a travel insurance policy with the Emergency Medical and Medical Evacuation benefits, however it is now required. These benefits are included within all but one policy on Squaremouth.com, and most policies with these benefits cover Covid-19.

Although Jordan’s government has not specified a required coverage amount, Squaremouth still recommends travelers buy a policy with at least $50,000 in Emergency Medical coverage. This benefit can cover the treatment of Covid-19, as well as other illnesses or an injury, and can reimburse expenses such as hospital fees and physician services.

In addition to this, travelers should also look for a policy with at least $100,000 in Medical Evacuation coverage. This is separate from Emergency Medical. The Medical Evacuation benefit can cover the cost of an evacuation to the nearest hospital in the event of an emergency.

In this event a traveler is concerned about getting sick and needing to cancel before they depart, we recommend a comprehensive policy with Trip Cancellation coverage. This benefit can reimburse 100% of a traveler’s prepaid and non-refundable trip cost if they need to cancel for a covered reason, such as contracting Covid-19 or another illness. Comprehensive policies have other coverage as well, including benefits for travel delays and luggage.

Region by region: How these states could broaden abortion access

The year began with nationwide conservative efforts to shrink abortion access . Advocates for the procedure hope to end 2024 by reversing some of these restrictions, via the ballot box.

And the outcome of their efforts could have major implications for something opponents have long waged war on − interstate abortion travel.

With ballot initiatives underway in nearly a dozen states to let voters weigh in on where to set the limits, the success or failure of these measures will have impacts beyond state lines and on regions broadly, advocates told USA TODAY.

Acting as a sort of sanctuaries for neighboring abortion access deserts, states with more liberal abortion laws have seen an influx of out-of-state patients since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 case guaranteeing a constitutional right to the procedure. 

And a slew of proposed abortion-related constitutional amendments in 2024 could add to the map.

How many people got abortions in 2023? New report finds increase despite bans

“Unless there's a national right to abortion care, we're absolutely doing it state by state, community by community as best as possible,” said Adrienne Mansanares, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains. 

Abortion travel escalated post-Roe

After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and decades of federal abortion precedent in June 2022, decisions around the procedure and any limits or exceptions returned to states, creating a nationwide legislative patchwork.  

Over a dozen predominantly red states have implemented near total bans on abortions, while a handful of blue states including Oregon and Vermont allow abortions regardless of the gestational period, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a research group that supports abortion rights. Some states restored an abortion limit similar to that of Roe. 

The varying laws have led to a rise in patients traveling between states seeking an abortion, Mansanares said.

Planned Parenthood’s health centers in Colorado, a state with wider abortion access, saw a tenfold increase in patients seeking care from nearby Texas, Oklahoma and Arizona between 2020 and last year, according to the organization's records. In October 2020 through September 2021, their Colorado health centers saw 374 of these out-of-state patients; from October 2022 through September 2023, the clinics served approximately 3,800 patients from the same three states. Over 75% of these women scheduled appointments for abortions.

The bulk of women came from the Lone Star State, where the procedure is almost completely banned. 

"When state bans go into effect, they impact the entire country,” Mansanares said. 

This year, voters in at least three states will decide whether to enshrine abortion access in their constitution. And there are still ongoing initiatives to add such a decision to the ballot in about a dozen more states, including Colorado. 

If passed, these referendums could cement some states’ statuses as abortion access points, while opening new points of access in others. 

Women travel both to and from Florida for abortions

Sitting in the southeast where some of the country’s tightest abortion laws are concentrated, Florida has been a relative haven for patients in the South in the wake of Roe’s overturning. 

But with the state’s current 15-week limit about to drop to six weeks, after a recent state Supreme Court ruling, women in Florida and the surrounding region could face a shortage of care, said Serra Sippel, interim executive director of The Brigid Alliance, a group that provides resources for abortion travel. 

Already, Florida is among The Brigid Alliances top states from which they help patients travel, often seeking abortions in D.C. or Maryland, Sippel said.

And she said the group is bracing for this need to grow after May 1, when the six-week limit is set to go into effect. 

November ballot measure could change Florida yet again

The Florida Supreme Court at the same time cleared the way for a measure protecting abortion through viability, often around 24 weeks, to appear on November’s ballot.  

Tami Fitzgerald, executive director of the “100% pro-life" group North Carolina Values Coalition, said she is worried about the effects of both Florida court decisions in her own southern state. 

“All states in the South, once Florida's heartbeat bill goes into effect, will have either a heartbeat bill or a gestational limit at conception,” Fitzgerald said. “And so that means North Carolina's 12-week limit on abortion will cause women to flood across our borders, again, to obtain abortions.” 

Along with Virginia, which allows abortion through 26 weeks of pregnancy, North Carolina has some of the lowest restrictions on the procedure compared to the rest of the south. Even after the state legislature last summer lowered the limit from 20 to 12 weeks, with exceptions, North Carolina saw one of the highest number of out-of-state patients in 2023, behind Illinois, according to the Guttmacher Institute.

Fitzgerald said she wants a limit like other southern states for the Tar Heel State and is concerned about referendums like Florida's.

“It should be a concern for everyone who believes in the sanctity of human life,” she said. 

Travel for abortion care is 'not ideal'

Still, abortion access advocates say interstate travel is an imperfect solution. 

“It is not ideal," said Tara Romano, executive director of Pro-Choice North Carolina, “because not everyone can leave the state to access abortion. And this is really just how chaotic it's been since (Roe was overturned).” 

“If you're in a state where you cannot access abortion, being able to get to another state is going to be really critical,” she added. “It's just that it's not going to be able to help everyone,” including patients in emergency situations, Romano said. 

For those seeking an abortion, Mansanares said considerations range from travel costs to finding somewhere to stay in a different state, along with taking time off work and, for the many women who are already parents, finding childcare.
