10 incredible yoga retreats in Europe for 2024
Jan 30, 2024 • 6 min read
Lift the mist and find inner peace with some yoga in Sweden © Joris Van Egmond / Shambala Gatherings, Sweden
Is the daily grind getting you down? Take the edge off and recharge with a nourishing yoga retreat in Europe.
Whether you want to salute the sun surrounded by a rugged mountain range or feel the warmth of the sand between your toes as you strike a warrior pose, there’s a retreat for everyone.
It doesn't matter if you are a novice or a hardcore yogi, these ten European breaks will bring out total calm.
1. Dolce Vitality, Italy
Ranked one of the world’s finest hotels , Le Sirenuse in Positano hosts a six-day retreat each spring. From March 10–16 – the week before the hotel opens for the season – Dolce Vitality welcomes 30 guests, who have the place to themselves for the duration of their stay. After a session of sunrise yoga, guests get rewarded with a challenging mountain trek and sweeping views of the Amalfi Coast .
There are 45-minute restorative massages each day and plenty of free time to take advantage of the pool, Turkish bath, sauna, and ice room. It costs €8500, which covers transfers from Naples , spa treatments, accommodation, and pescatarian meals prepared by the hotel’s executive chef.
2. Akasha, Romania
When you think of wellness holidays, Romania doesn't usually spring to mind. Yet this intimate resort in the Transylvanian village of Peştera stands out thanks to the raw beauty of its surrounding natural landscape.
Launching in April, Akasha offers four- or five-day all-inclusive programs for up to 20 guests. Rates start from €188 per night. Following twice-daily yoga classes (suitable for all levels), guests can admire the mountain view from the infrared sauna or gaze at the stars from its outdoor hot tub. Outings include hikes in Piatra Craiului National Park, a visit to a bear sanctuary and guided tours of Bran Castle , possible inspiration for Count Dracula's castle in Bram Stoker's novel.
3. Silver Island, Greece
Get away from it all at this exclusive island retreat in the dazzling Aegean Sea. Far from the usual tourist hotspots in Greece , private Silver Island only has space for 11 guests during its week-long sessions. Stays run from April to October with prices from €1705.
Catering to both beginners and advanced yogis, guests choose a style that suits them – from Ashtanga to Kundalini – and will take part in four hours of open-air practice a day. The resort also offers therapeutic treatments, hikes across the island, relaxing beaches and stand-up paddle boards. After digging into the vegetarian Mediterranean-inspired menu, unwind with a glass of wine around the fire pit.
4. Macalla Farm, Ireland
Located on tiny Clare Island, off the west coast of Ireland , Macalla Farm focuses on sustainable practices in yoga and agriculture. The team produces its own yogurt, cheese, bread and honey, as well as almost all of its vegetables. It offers four-day programs dedicated to Sati yoga and meditation (€580), or you can challenge yourself with a seven-day silent retreat (pay what you can above €600). Practitioners of all levels participate in twice-daily yoga and meditation sessions, and there’s a menu of organic vegetarian food, prepared with vegetables straight from the farm’s gardens.
5. Casa Fuzetta, Portugal
In the heart of Olhão , a seaside town along Portugal ’s Algarve , the gorgeous butter-yellow Casa Fuzetta runs more than 30 retreats a year. Schedules and prices vary, but on the whole, guests can look forward to sun-drenched yoga on the terrace, soundtracked by clanging church bells. This can be followed by swims in the rooftop pool, island hopping, or strolls along the old town’s cobbled streets to the beach. There is a wide range of activities on offer too, such as digging for clams, horseback riding, dolphin watching, and olive-oil tasting.
6. Wylder, Ibiza
Yoga teacher Charlotte Townend runs a series of Wylder retreats across the Balearic islands. There are ten scheduled for 2024 in Menorca , Formentera and Ibiza , with the latter taking place at Can Terra, a classic whitewashed villa on the hillside of San Miguel. Townend mixes things up by collaborating with local chefs, artisans and specialists. As well as her own yoga classes, expect Pilates, breathwork, a jewelry-making workshop, and an open-air movie night. Alongside plant-based dishes, stays include a visit to a Mexican street food pop-up and an immersive cooking lesson at a nearby farm. The four-night stay costs £1700.
7. Shambala Gatherings, Sweden
Tucked away in the lush forest of Bergslagen, two hours from Stockholm , this retreat center offers programs all year round, including atmospheric winter sessions amid the snow-dusted pines (from £525).
On top of daily yoga classes, guests can keep warm in the floating wood-fired sauna on the lake, brave a dip in the cool waters, or discover local wildlife on a nature walk, before sitting down to one of the center’s nutritious vegan, gluten-free meals. Retreats are in English or Swedish. Prices and schedules vary from week to week.
8. Tofte Manor, England
Step back in time at this unique Bedfordshire hideaway , a 90-minute drive from London . The Domesday Book first listed the property in 1086, and builders constructed the current house in the 17th century. Expertly restored, it boasts 50 acres (20.2 hectares) of beautifully landscaped gardens, complete with a fire pit and striking crystal ball water feature.
The English manor plays host to a variety of retreats throughout the year, with several dreamy spots for restorative asanas: a luxury yurt, a crystal room anchored with amethyst geodes, or, on fine days, the snaking paths of an enchanting open-air labyrinth. After yoga, stay active at the tennis court and outdoor pool, or indulge in a soothing massage or some crystal energy healing.
9. Kea Retreat, Greece
An hour’s ferry ride from Athens , the secluded island of Kea is home to a retreat center that prizes its Mediterranean cuisine as much as its yoga practice. House chef Uri Eshet, formerly of Copenhagen's Michelin-starred foodie mecca Noma, prepares three meals a day, as guests try to reconnect with nature.
After rising early for a beachfront yoga session, Kea Retreat guests can enjoy shell diving, hiking, foraging, or kayaking to hidden caves. Wake up to the sound of the waves in the center’s carefully preserved Kathikies (traditional Greek stone farmhouses) which accommodate up to 14 guests. Decorated with whitewashed interiors and works by local artisans, each room has a private balcony and outdoor shower.
10. Suncokret, Croatia
Named after the Croatian word for sunflower, the Suncokret retreat is perched on the verdant hills overlooking the peaceful island of Stari Grad . There are three-, five- and seven-day stays available between April and November (from €400), which welcome up to nine guests.
The holistic programs combine yoga, meditation, and journaling sessions with daily excursions such as cycling tours, visits to historic Hvar town or nature walks on the pristine nearby islands, just a short boat trip away. As well as practicing on the rustic stone cottage’s rooftop terrace and in its airy loft, the group is whisked away twice a week for outdoor yoga by the sea, on the forest edge, or next to a baroque church.

VIEW TRAVEL YOGI TEACHERS
We’re yoga adventure retreats (not just yoga retreats) .
As yogis, we understand the importance of balance in life. We understand the discipline and benefits of a regular yoga practice. We also know we are here on this beautiful blue planet to truly live—especially when we travel. When we travel, it is clear that the heart wants what the heart wants—joy, connection, experience, consciousness, and adventure. We eat well, drink well, laugh, love, and try new things.
If you are looking for a vegan-only, stay-by-the-hotel-pool kind of trip with a million chaturangas, we aren’t your people (and that’s totally okay). If you are looking for a balanced, carefully curated travel adventure experience, then we’re your people. If you are seeking adventure with a dose of wellness and consideration of sustainability and regeneration in local environments, we’re your people.
What Is a Yoga Adventure Retreat?
Search “yoga retreats” and you’ll find a never-ending stream of glossy infinity pools and perfect scorpion poses. You’ll see sleek bodies and solitary meditation practices in remote locations. But, if you look a little closer, you’ll notice something is missing. You’ll notice the sterility, the travel-bubble lack of immersion, and maybe even forced authenticity
The Travel Yogi puts adventure and experience first. We consciously craft travel for adventurers seeking immersive experiences . The Travel Yogi way is new languages mixed with laughter, clinking glasses of old-world wine , and navigating adventure flows (or actually navigating white water in Patagonia if that is your thing).
We are complex and curious humans seeking realness. And yeah, we are tired of the gloss: we don’t want that gloss. We want the condensation on windows from bus rides to wild places, dust on our eyelashes from a bike ride to lunch, and sand in our swimsuits from surfing waves on a quiet beach. Let’s say that again: we are tired of the gloss and we want real.

Trip Itinerary
Activity Level: Active
Travel to croatia, arrive in split.
Let’s begin our wonderful yoga escape with a flight from Dublin to Split, well known for its fortress like complex, the Diocletian's Palace. Upon arrival in Split in the late evening, we will be met by our local guide and transferred to our hotel which will be our base for one night.
Accommodation
4 star hotel in Split (1 night)
Hvar Island
Transfer to hvar island.
This morning we will have a guided transfer from our hotel to Split Port. From there we will board a small local ferry to cross over to Stari Grad Port before boarding a new coach for our onwards transfer to our hotel in Vrboska, a charming village located on the Croatian Island of Hvar. Our hotel in Vrboska enjoys a secluded location just 20m from the Adriatic Sea. Surrounded by pine forests, it is the perfect place to base ourselves for a reviving yoga retreat.
Please note in order to travel to and from Hvar we will travel on a small local ferry. Due to the size of the ferry, our bus cannot travel on the ferry with us. We will board the ferry to Stari Grad Port as foot passengers, carrying our luggage on board with us as hand luggage, before boarding a new coach for our onwards transfer to our hotel in Vrboska.
Slow Flow & Guided Meditation
This evening let’s enjoy a “Meet & Greet” with our highly qualified yoga teacher from MOONSyoga Loft. It will consist of a quick welcome chat so we can get to know our yoga teacher and fellow yogis, followed by a stretch session. We will be taken through a slow and mindful yoga flow, stretching out any tensions we may have. With the help of our expert yoga teacher, we will then fully shift into yoga holiday mode with a grounding meditation. This will help us settle in to the new space and prepare us for a beautiful nights rest. A yoga mat will be provided locally for all yoga sessions.
Twice daily yoga sessions
Morning yoga session.
Each morning we will enjoy a yoga class with a highly qualified instructor from MOONSyoga Loft. We will start each day by opening up the body/mind and getting energy flowing from tip to toe; the morning classes will build to a relatively strong flow class, incorporating breath work and mindfulness throughout. Starting softly and working up into a series of slow fluid sequences, each morning class will include lengthening, balancing and strength building poses; a heat building Hatha Vinyasa class. We will eventually come back down on to the ground for a deep releasing stretch and well-earned pre-breakfast savasana.
Hvar Island at leisure
You will have your afternoons at leisure to enjoy as you wish. Take a dip in the pool, go snorkelling in the sea, cycle to the centre of Vrboska or explore the abundant surrounding nature. The choice is all yours,
Evening yoga session
Each evening we will enjoy a yoga class with a highly qualified instructor from MOONSyoga Loft. The evening sessions will begin with a warm up, like in the morning, but will focus on a particular section of the body, moving more deeply into it through specifically targeted postures. It will be more like a workshop than a ‘general’ yoga class. For example, the first one might focus on hips and hip openers working towards a climax posture such as pigeon/reclined virasana etc. Another evening workshop could be based on shoulders and arms, working up towards arm balances etc. One could be specific to twists, another to inversions etc. An additional benefit of these evening sessions is the education we will take away with us off the mat, going home to our local studios with a better awareness and knowledge of the poses/alignment/benefits. The class will be followed by a cool down sequence with time to release, relax and rest the body leaving us ready to float away and enjoy the remainder of our evening.
Return Home
This morning will be free to spend as you wish. It is the perfect opportunity for some last minute independent sightseeing or shopping.
Depart Croatia
In the late afternoon we will have a guided transfer from our hotel to Stari Grad Port. From there we will take a ferry as foot passengers with carry-on luggage back to mainland Croatia and continue onwards to Split airport for our return flight home, feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and with wonderful memories of our yoga holiday to Croatia.
* We aim to operate your tour itinerary according to the format shown. Occasionally, local conditions and unexpected events may result in adjustments to the planned schedule. We kindly ask for your understanding and flexibility in the event of any changes.

Trip Itinerary
Activity Level: Active
Travel to portugal, flight to faro, transfer to tavira.
Let’s escape to the Algarve. As we depart Dublin on our flight to Faro Airport. Upon arrival, we will be met by our local representative at the airport before being transferred to our hotel in Cabanas de Tavira, in the Algarve. Cabanas de Tavira is a tranquil village, off the beaten track of the busier Algarve resorts and located on the edge of the Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, an ideal base for our relaxing yoga escape.
With the help of our expert yoga teacher we will then fully shift into yoga holiday mode with a grounding meditation. This will help us settle in to the new space and prepare us for a beautiful nights rest.
Welcome dinner
Afterwards let’s join our fellow group members and teacher for a welcome dinner in your hotel. Let’s get to know one another over our evening meal and get ready for the three days of restoration that await us.
Accommodation
4 star hotel in Cabanas de Tavira (3 nights)
Day 2- 3 – Twice daily yoga sessions
Morning yoga session.
Each morning we will have a yoga class with a highly qualified teacher from MOONSyoga Loft. We will starting each day by opening up the body/mind and getting energy flowing from tip to toe; the morning classes will build to a relatively strong flow class, incorporating breath work and mindfulness throughout. Starting softly and working up into a series of slow fluid sequences, each morning class will include lengthening, balancing and strength building poses; a heat building Hatha Vinyasa class. Eventually coming back down onto the ground for a deep releasing stretch and well earned pre-breakfast savasana.
You will be free every afternoon to explore the town of Tavira and its surroundings areas. From exploring the nearby Rio Formosa Natural Park, the beach, shopping and the many cafes and restaurants, you are sure to be kept entertained in this charming rustic resort.
Evening yoga session
Each evening we will have a yoga class with a highly qualified teacher from MOONSyoga Loft. An additional benefit of these evening sessions is the education we take away with us off the mat, going home to our local studio with a better awareness and knowledge of the poses/alignment/benefits. The class will be followed by a cool down sequence with time to release, relax and rest the body leaving us ready to float away and enjoy the remainder of our evening.
At leisure & return home
We will have a full day at leisure to soak up the natural surroundings of Tavira before an evening transfer to Faro Airport for our return flight home, We hope you have enjoyed experiencing the joy of mindful movement and meditation with us on our Algarve Yoga Holiday.
* We aim to operate your tour itinerary according to the format shown. Occasionally, local conditions and unexpected events may result in adjustments to the planned schedule. We kindly ask for your understanding and flexibility in the event of any changes.

First Timer’s Travel Guide to Moscow & Saint Petersburg
Russia is this vast, diverse, and magnificent land that many international travellers dream of visiting. The capital city Moscow and the second largest city in the country St Petersburg are, in particular, one of the most magical and interesting cities in the world you can visit all year-round. That is why today we decided to focus yours and our attention to both cities. Learn how to explore them properly if you are a first-time visitor. How to ensure that you make the most of your visit. What to expect, etc.
The Kremlin, Moscow
Despite the fact that even a month or two will not be enough to explore Moscow or St Petersburg to the fullest and enjoy everything these amazing cities have to offer, not many of us have the luck to spend such a long time abroad. We would provide you with some recommendations and ideas you can totally make happen within a 4-day itinerary in Moscow and a 4-day itinerary in St Petersburg.
St Petersburg
In addition, please note that the majority of the international and continental flights are to the capital city Moscow that is a home to the biggest and most popular airport in the country. So Moscow will be the starting point of your over a week-long journey to Russia. Let’s discuss some of the basics you should know and prepare for!
The first thing you have to do when planning to visit Russia is applying for a visa. There are only a few countries in the world that are to require a visa when visiting the country. In the majority of the cases, you should have one in order to visit the country. Be prepared for your visa application by making sure you own and can provide a proof of arrival and departure dates, and an invitation letter from either a tour provider or an accommodation booked.
Make sure to check out the website of your country’s government for additional requirements and papers needed. The easiest way to get an invitation letter from an accommodation is by booking a major hotel chain. They are more used to dealing with international visitors and will assist and support you throughout the process, providing you with everything you need for entering the country. Please keep in mind that the application process can take up to a few weeks and you have to send your original passport away, so make sure you don’t need it during this time.
However, there is one way to visit St Petersburg for three days visa-free. This happens if you arrive by ferry or cruise ship when you will be allowed to arrive and stay in the city for 72 hours without applying for a visa. This is the only way and a great option to visit one of the most magnificent and impressive cities in Russia without going through the whole visa application process that can be pretty overwhelming, indeed.
Well, Russian language is not the most popular in the world, despite the fact it is spoken by a big number of people, who are citizens not only of the country but also of the ex-USSR. Chances are, you are not familiar with the language and with the Cyrillic alphabet used in the country, where you will find that the majority of the signs around the cities are in Cyrillic, which can make it harder for you to find your way around, but also a great bunch of the names of many international brands and companies. In addition, once you get to Russia you will find out that English is definitely not widely-spoken by the general population, even in big cities such as Moscow and St Petersburg, where most of the people, no matter their age, will speak little to no English.
However, don’t be afraid that you will get lost or in trouble. Let Google Translate, hand gestures, and a little common sense make all the hard work and you will be ok. Keep in mind that having an Internet connection on your phone all the time will be very helpful for finding your way around. In addition, many restaurants in the main tourist areas in both cities have an English menu you can ask for, while the same applies to the maps and brochures of the major tourist attractions.
Getting Around
Both Moscow and St Petersburg have an awful traffic, which means that taxis can cost you a lot. Buses and cars can take a long time when traffic is at its full potential and in order to save yourself some time and coins. We highly recommend you using the metro/underground systems in both cities. Moscow’s metro system is simply amazing. It has a huge network of interconnecting lines that will help you get around and across the city very efficiently.
Make sure to grab a map of the Moscow’s metro, which will make it very easy to navigate, plus the stations are announced in English. In addition, using the metro is incredibly cheap and it will get you anywhere in the city for less than $1. Moscow’s metro is also known for some of the most beautiful and spectacular metro stations in the world that are definitely worth visiting as amazing tourist attractions of their own.
The metro is St Petersburg isn’t nearly as extensive as the Moscow’s one and the stations are more spread out. In this case, you can take advantage of the Uber service in the city and explore St Petersburg by ordering an Uber driver that will cost you significantly cheaper than a taxi. Thanks to the big number of drivers available, you will be able to find a free car very quickly. However, considering the fact that St Petersburg is more touristy and most of the main sights are located in what is called the Golden Triangle, you can easily explore the main tourist attractions by foot. There are also sightseeing buses and canal transports that will take you all along and around the main sights in St Petersburg.
The Russian currency is Russian ruble and you can expect to spend a lot of it because both Moscow and St Petersburg are pretty expensive cities with a higher standard and cost of living. Knowing that both cities are generally pretty expensive will help you plan that fact into your budget and consider some way to spend money if you are not travelling with a limitless budget. For example, make sure to choose a hotel that is in the outskirts of the city and in a short walking distance from a metro station. This way you can save a huge amount of money compared to a hotel in the city centre and you can also save on travel time. If you are student do not forget to take your valid student ID with you since some attractions and museums are offering a student discount.
Tickets and Attractions
When it comes to tickets for shows, museums, and attractions, the best way is to buy them beforehand. This way you can save time and not wait in hours-long lines, you can even benefit from an online purchase discount, and most importantly – you can make sure that your place and visit is reserved since many attractions in Russia sell a limited amount of tickets per day. There are some places that are very popular and tickets can sell out weeks in advance. An online purchase will help you figure out what and when you can visit, and you can plan your tour better and more effectively.
The weather in Moscow and St Petersburg can be pretty unpredictable all year-round. Because of that make sure to pack a variety of clothes for all seasons, dress in layers, and don’t take the weather forecast for the day as a final promise. Make sure to always take an umbrella or a raincoat with you. For women, bringing a scarf can be very useful for a practical reason, but also because some churches and cathedrals in Russia expect you to cover your hair with a scarf.
If you are a foodie, you will be happy to know that Russia has its very own and unique cuisine and we highly recommend you trying out some of the most popular dishes in the country including the Russian dumplings pierogi, the infamous Russian salads such as Olivie, Mimoza, and Seliodka pod shuba, etc. However, if you are not willing to try out the local cuisine, there are many international restaurants and familiar fast food chains in both cities Moscow and St Petersburg.
Things to Do and Places to See
Both Moscow and St Petersburg are cities that offer a lot to be seen, explored, experienced, and enjoyed. Some of the most important, stunning, and exciting sights in Moscow: the Red Square, where you can visit the St. Basil’s Cathedral and the GUM Department Store. The Kremlin that contains the Great Bell Tower. The Tsar Bell, Tsar Cannon, several cathedrals, gardens, and the Armory Chamber. Arbat Street is the most touristic street in Moscow with a lot of places to eat, plenty of shops to buy, and all the souvenirs you can ever imagine and want to take home with you.
St. Basil’s Cathedral
The metro stations, despite the fact that they are one of the busiest in the world, are definitely very clean and beautifully constructed and ornamented. Izmaylovsky Flea Market is just a few metro stations away from the centre. It is a great place to get to know the Russian culture and everyday life while shopping for some more authentic and interesting souvenirs. Sparrow Hill is one of the highest spots in Moscow and offers some great views of the modern city, plus it is the location of the Lomonosov Moscow State University.
Saint Petersburg is often referred to as one of the most beautiful and stunning cities not only in Russia but in the whole world. It has plenty of unique sights and magnificent things to see in the city. If your time is limited you should make sure to cover at least the highlights. The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, since its exterior and interior, are equally breath-taking.
The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood
Hop on a canal cruise to explore the city from a different perspective. Visit Kazan Cathedral and St. Isaac’s Cathedral, where you can go inside and also climb the stairs to the top and enjoy some stunning views of the city. The Palace Square, which is home to the Winter Palace, which was the lavish residence of the Russian monarchs and is nowadays a part of the Hermitage Museum.
Kazan Cathedral
Of course, visiting Saint Petersburg without visiting the Hermitage Museum is like going to Rome and not seeing the Pope. The Hermitage is one of the largest and most spectacular museums in the world and a day is not enough to explore each and every one of its nooks and corners. When in the city, you can also visit the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Peterhof Palace.
Despite the fact that media loves to sensationalise the negative stories in Russia and the fact that the country is often portrayed as a pretty unsafe place by the western media, the chances of you getting into a trouble, feel threatened, or in a danger are as minimal as possible. However, keep in mind that some things are rather recommended not to do, for example taking a picture of any government, military or security building. Despite not forbidden, you better use your camera for capturing some more exciting moments. In addition, always bring a photocopy of your passport and visa with you, since police can demand you to legitimize yourself anytime.

In what had long been celebrated every May 30 to honor America’s fallen soldiers, Memorial Day officially became a federal holiday in 1971, observed on the last Monday in May.
Businesses increasingly have chosen to stay open on the holiday, leading to what is now one of the biggest retail sales and travel weekends of the year.
Here’s what is open and closed this year on Memorial Day:
GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS
Government offices, post offices, courts and schools are closed.
Memorial Day Weekend
- The history: 5 things to know about the holiday , including its evolution and controversies
- Travel: Crowds and high prices met travelers on the busiest day of the holiday weekend
- On the menu: Try this recipe for smoky chicken wings or for something lighter, update these classic side dishes
- What’s open? Check this list of stores and more before you head out
- Now playing: Here are the movies coming to the box office this weekend and beyond
BANKS AND STOCK MARKET
U.S. stock markets and banks are closed Monday.
Most FedEx and UPS pickup and delivery services will also not be available on Memorial Day.
Warehouse membership club Costco said it would close on Memorial Day , but the vast majority of retailers will be open, with many trying to lure customers with big promotional sales. Hours may vary by location.
Memorial Day is also considered the unofficial opening of the summer travel season. Auto club AAA projects 43.8 million travelers will head 50 miles or more from home over the holiday travel period, an increase of 4% from last year. If those projections are accurate, that would come close to 2005’s record of 44 million Memorial Day weekend travelers.
AAA projects 38.4 million people will travel by car over the weekend — the highest number for that holiday since AAA began tracking it in 2000 — and that another 3.5 million people will travel by air.
